Although many will be gathering in person for ACTS 29 Unleashed on August 5–9, we believe this movement is much bigger than a conference. It is a call for God’s people everywhere to seek Him, prepare their hearts, and pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Whether or not you are able to attend, you can still play a vital role. We warmly invite you to partner with us during these 10 Days of Heart Preparation, from July 26 to August 4, as together we seek the Lord for revival.

Why Heart Preparation?

We have high expectations for what God is going to do—not only during ACTS 29 Unleashed, but in the lives of His people around the world. However, to experience the fullness of His blessings, we believe heart preparation is essential.

Throughout Scripture, God prepared His people before every great movement of His Spirit. Before Pentecost, the disciples spent time in united prayer, repentance, confession, and seeking God with one accord. We believe God is calling us to do the same today as we seek not merely another conference, but a deeper experience with Jesus.

Our desire is to behold Jesus, be emptied of self, be filled with the Holy Spirit, and be ready for His soon return.

God longs to fill His people with His Holy Spirit, but before we can be filled, we must first be emptied of self.

As Ellen White reminds us:

“I am so sorry to see that when our brethren attend a Conference, they do not generally feel the importance of first preparing for the meeting... Instead of consecrating themselves to God before they come... nearly all leave no better than when they came.”
— Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 2, p. 55

May this never be true of us. Whether we are attending the conference or praying from home, may these ten days become a sacred season of surrender—allowing God to search our hearts, remove every barrier, and prepare us to receive the fullness of His Spirit.

During These 10 Days

Beginning Sunday, July 26, we encourage you to intentionally set aside time each day to:

• Spend unhurried time in prayer.

• Read Look and Live, fixing your eyes on Jesus.

• Ask God to search your heart and reveal anything that hinders your walk with Him.

• Pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon your life, your family, your church, and all who will attend ACTS 29 Unleashed.

• Choose kindness, forgiveness, humility, and surrender in your daily interactions.

We also encourage you to prayerfully consider a 10-day fast, following the example of Daniel:

“And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting...”
— Daniel 9:3

Consider fasting not only from rich or junk foods, but also from unnecessary distractions such as social media, television, entertainment, excessive news, or anything that competes for your attention. Ask the Lord what He would have you lay aside so that you may hear His voice more clearly.

The goal of fasting is not simply to give something up—but to make more room for Jesus.

Join the Kindness Challenge

Heart preparation is more than personal devotion—it is Christ’s love expressed in action.

If you haven’t already, we invite you to participate in the Kindness Challenge by intentionally showing the love of Jesus to someone each day. Offer a word of encouragement, serve a neighbor, forgive someone who has hurt you, pray with a friend, write a note of appreciation, or meet a practical need. Small acts of Christlike kindness can open hearts to the everlasting gospel.

Our prayer is that we would come before God with hearts free from bitterness, selfishness, and every attitude that could hinder the work of revival.

“Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

ACTS 29 Unleashed was dreamed up by the Holy Spirit and organized by leaders from 24/7 United Prayer, former ARME Bible Camp staff, and coordinators from the Back to the Altar revival initiative. Our prayer is simple yet urgent: that every attendee would behold Jesus more clearly and experience true revival through the power of the Holy Spirit.

This conference is designed to be inspirational, practical, and deeply engaging for those who hunger to be spiritually prepared for Jesus’ soon coming. Together, we will seek God through:

Prayer for Unity

Heavenly Father,
We come before You with grateful hearts for the prayer of Jesus, who longed that His followers might be one, just as He is one with You. Lord, forgive us for the times we have allowed division, pride, and selfishness to weaken Your work among us. Cleanse us from these sins, and teach us to walk in humility and love.

Help us to strive earnestly for unity—praying for it, working for it, and surrendering self at the cross. Bind our hearts together with the golden chain of Christian love. May we be led by Your Spirit, moving in harmony as one body with one purpose. Lord, let all dissension cease and let Your peace and blessing rest upon us.

We ask that You would restore the power lost through division and make us a living testimony to the world, to angels, and to men, that You are truly with Your people. Draw us close to Jesus, our Source of strength, so that we may have one mind, one judgment, and one Spirit. May the miracle of unity in Christ shine so brightly in our lives that many who do not yet believe will see that You are with us and be drawn to Your kingdom.

Prayer for Unity

Loving Father in heaven,
We thank You for the prayer of Jesus, that His followers may be one, even as You and He are one. Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have allowed strife, criticism, and division to creep into our hearts and into Your church. Teach us to love one another as Christ has loved us, binding us together with the golden chain of Your love.

Lord, help us to act in harmony, each fulfilling the sacred duty You have appointed, that together we may show the world that You are working in us. “The church may pass resolution upon resolution to put down all disagreement of opinions, but we cannot force the mind and will and thus root out disagreement. These resolutions may conceal the discord, but they cannot quench it and establish a perfect agreement. Nothing can perfect a perfect unity in the church. Satan can sow discord; Christ alone can harmonize the disagreeing elements. Then let every soul sit down in Christ’s school and learn of Christ, who declares Himself to be meek and lowly of heart.” When you as individual members of the church love God supremely and your neighbor as yourself, then there will be no labored efforts to be in unity. There will be a oneness in Christ. The ears to reports will be closed, and no one will take up a reproach against his neighbor. “We are only selfishly wise when we plan for the future, and make resolutions and bring them in, and we ourselves arrange matters, as we think in all wisdom; for in so doing we are in danger of getting in the way of the Lord. Stand out of the way with your many resolutions, and when the time comes for God to bring his people into trying places to test and prove them, he will help them, and he will not fail or be discouraged, but will be a present help in trouble. Consider A Few Case Histories

• The Early Church

The Early Church’s attainment of perfect unity brought a great downpouring of the Holy Spirit. How did they come into that perfect unity? What was the result?”

Acts 2:1-4 (NKJV) “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. “

• The Howland Reconciliation Story.

How was unity brought about in this story? What are other ways a person might reach out to an offended brother or sister—for example writing a letter? How quickly should forgiveness be extended?

“In the early days of the church, a small company of believers met for worship in the large kitchen of Brother Stockbridge Howland in Topsam, Maine. One morning Brother Howland was initially absent. Soon, however, he entered, his face glowing with the glory of God. “Brethren,” he said, “I have found it. I have found that we can pursue a course of action regarding which the guarantee of God’s word is: ‘Ye shall never fall.’ I am going to tell you about it.”He shared how he had noticed that one brother, a poor fisherman, had been feeling less respected in comparison to the other men, and therefore was absenting himself from the gatherings. Concerned, Brother Howland went to find him. Soon he was kneeling before the brother, saying, “My brother, forgive me. What is it that I have done?” The man took him by the arm and tried to raise him to his feet. “No,” said Brother Howland, “what have you against me?” “I have nothing against “you.” “But you must have,” said Brother Howland, “because once we could speak to one another, but now you do not speak to me at all, and I want to know what is the matter.” “Get up, Brother Howland,” he said. “No,” said Brother Howland, “I will not.” “Then I must get down,” he said, and he fell on his knees, and confessed how childish he had been and how many evil surmisings he had cherished. “And now,” he said, “I will put them all away.” Counsels to the Church, 289.6. It wasn’t too long before the previously absent fisherman brother entered and happily engaged in the time of spiritual refreshing.”

• Unity Between Different Nationalities.

Read the following and consider why God directed that there should be perfect unity between all the people of the world, regardless of color, caste or nationality. What benefits come as a result of blending the various groups?”

While Ellen White was working in Europe a proposal was made to organize the church into separate national conferences—for example, the conferences of France and Italy would be established as separate entities. She told the brother making the proposal that such a plan was contrary to the light given her: “I told Brother Daniel that this would not be in accordance with God’s will.” Continuing to quote, “He pleaded that it would be better for the French that they should not unite with the Swiss Conference, for they were independent and naturally jealous; and if pressed to rules or order, there would be revolutionary feelings. I told him these were the strong reasons that I would urge why they should unite with the Swiss Conference (Emphasis added), and their interests be blended together, and they should not take on an independent spirit, but as followers of Christ be subject one to another. This is the very means that God has ordained that one shall have influence over another, and all be transformed and molded after the divine Pattern, that all the believers in Christ are to be sanctified through the truth. Letter 23, 1885, par. 30. The truth is one. It will take people from France and Italy and, mingling them with other elements, soften and refine them through the truth. Teach them that in humility and union there is strength. The love of Christ and living faith would have a transforming power upon the ideas of the man, and upon the man, and upon the character. ... God’s purpose is to bring all into harmony and unity on the platform of truth as it is in Jesus. There are to be no separate interests formed or maintained by the believers in present truth.” Letter 23, 1885, par. 31.”

• James White Seeking Broad Support.

Ellen and James White followed a lengthy process in making decisions at times. To what degree would this kind of process bring and maintain unity to the local church and beyond?“I have been having a talk with Elder Cottrell, Elder Haskell, and Elder Burden. I have tried to describe to them the council meetings we used to have, for they did not seem to understand about the five men. When “important decisions were to be made, special pains were taken to have our plans first with five, then with eleven, then with twenty, before bringing before the whole meeting plans we wished to carry. I told them, W. C. White, how your father managed. No abrupt propositions were made before the five men, who were of quick understanding, were made acquainted with everything that your father designed to bring before the people. We had special seasons of prayer with the five, then carefully explained how we wished to have certain things without a dissenting voice. After most earnest prayer, propositions were made regarding the matter in question. Manuscript 158, 1907, par. 1. Your father made everything straight and plain, and the five were made acquainted with what they hoped to do in regard to carrying the message and how it should be presented, and then they prayed earnestly for the Lord to impress their own hearts individually. After prayer a hymn was sung, and there was shaking hands, and all seemed to be blessed. Then these men were taken into counsel, and next a larger number ... and all the plans were carefully explained and how the matters were to be. Then by vote twenty more were selected, all the explanations were given, [and it was stated], “Now if you all feel perfectly free to vote for these things to be done, rise to your feet.” Then there was another praying season, and the Spirit of the Lord was present. We felt that pledge of union in action was essential. ... All united in perfect harmony, pledging themselves to exert their individual capabilities to work to the point that everything should be carried in our camp-meetings and in all essential meetings with unity and love and with the glory of God in view.” Manuscript 158, 1907, par. 2.”

• Unity And Resolutions.

“There was a time when Sabbath keepers living in the south were in danger of being prosecuted for laboring on Sunday. Some of the brethren were desiring the General Conference to pass a resolution advising all members to refrain from labor on that day. Ellen White opposed such a resolution and wrote a lengthy manuscript cautioning the passing of general resolution and opposing the resolution on the Sunday question in particular. Her justification included the (1) need to handle such things privately, (2) fear that such decisions might not have God’s approval and would unnecessarily bind up the work, the (3) wisdom of allowing individual conferences/states to make decisions appropriate to their situation, (4) respecting the individual responsibility of the soul before God, and (5) leave room for God to work, choosing to not lift burdens where they had been imposed, and not placing burdens where they had not been imposed. Here are some key thoughts:

“There have arisen in our [General] Conference questions that need to have careful attention, whether the Sabbathkeepers in the Southern States, where they are liable to feel the oppressive power of their State laws if they labor on Sunday, shall rest on Sunday to avoid the persecution which must come if they do any labor. ... Such resolutions should not be placed before this conference, requiring their action.” Manuscripts 6 1889 par. 1. ... I am afraid of these many resolutions.”

Some resolutions were urged, by young, inexperienced ones, that never should have received the consent of the conference. Human traditions, and permits and non-permits, have been of a character that would have bound them about with restrictions that were wholly unnecessary, out of God’s order, and that would have created a condition of things that would have been detrimental to the progress of the work.” Manuscripts 6, 1899 par. 4 ... All minor matters should be settled in the state conferences. ... The question that has been before the conference, whether the brethren where oppressive laws exist should be advised not to work on Sunday, is not a question to be brought before an open conference. It could not be voted upon without misunderstanding and mismoves and bad results.” Manuscripts 6, 1889 par. 8 ... If the decision is made that our people shall not labor on Sunday and that our brethren in the Southern States shall appear to harmonize with the Sunday law, because of oppression, how long before all over the world [our people] shall be in like circumstances as they are in the South?” Manuscripts 6, 1889 par. 16. Let there be no unnecessary act of arousing the combative spirit or passions of opponents. There is a self-deluded enthusiasm in this, bringing in an elevation of Sunday that it will be difficult to handle.” Manuscripts 6, 1889 par. 17. Should resolutions be passed that, because of the trials and inconveniences that arise because of our faith, such ones should cease their labor on Sunday, bowing to the idol sabbath, will it give those who do this vigorous, spiritual sinew and muscle, or will they grow into cowards and be swept away with the delusions of these last days? Leave these precious souls to God’s dictation.” Manuscripts 6, 1889 par. 21. ... [If] “the enactment of laws of the state shall compel Sunday observance, God would certainly be dishonored should the resolution be passed that, because of inconveniences and loss of property, imprisonment and fines, all must obey these laws. And the lesson given to those who need better advice shall be of a character to open the way and make it easy for souls to be carried away with the bold, swift current of evil. ... Shall the overseers of the flock work with the great deceiver to make apostasy from God easy?” Manuscripts 6 1889 par. 23.

“Let not anyone make any proud boast, either by precept or example to show that he is defying the laws of the land. Make no resolutions as to what persons in different states may do or may not do. Let nothing be done to lessen individual responsibility. To their God they must stand or fall. Let none feel it his duty to make speeches in the presence of our own people, or of our enemies, that will arouse their combativeness and they take your words and construe them in such a way that you are charged with being rebellious to the government, for this will close the door of access to the people.” Manuscripts 6, 1889 par. 29. ... Do not, in this critical time, mark out ways for God’s people, for how do you know what God designs to do with and for His people?” Manuscripts 6, 1889 par. 32. ... We say to our brethren, Do not for Christ’s sake get in the place of God before the people. Enough of this kind of work has been done. Let God work human minds. Do not hinder the workings of God for His people in this important period of time when tremendous interests are being enacted among God’s people.

Do not in your human wisdom fix up things too much bearing the human imprint. Leave God something to do. Let the hand of God appear in molding and fashioning men’s minds and character, and let man walk softly and humbly with God. Lift no burdens from God’s people that He would have them to bear. Jesus bore the cruel cross to Calvary. Do not cast burdens upon any class that He would have them released from.” Manuscripts 6, 1889 par.45. Satan’s work is constantly to perplex, to mix up things, to confuse, to get things into a tangle that is hard to straighten out. It is not a desirable job to be engaged in, to take the work out of God’s hands into your own finite arms. It is best for all parties concerned to leave the people of God in God’s hands for Him to impress and teach and guide their consciences. It is not safe for any one to attempt to be conscience for God’s people.” Manuscripts 6, 1889 par.46.”

• Disunity Hindered Evangelistic Efforts.

This story, described in Letter 98, 1902, reveals God’s inability to bless when a church is divided. What do you learn about the quest for unity from the experience of the Early Church on the Day of Pentecost for this situation?On July 8, 1902 Ellen White wrote a letter to the churches and companies that were doing evangelistic work in the city. Referencing the desire of church members to command rather than serve, she shared how their lack of harmony was greatly dishonoring God, and precluding God’s ability to use them to reach the people in New York City.

“By your failure to work in harmony, you are greatly dishonoring God. The enemy of your souls delights to see you working at cross purposes with one another. You need to cultivate brotherly love and tenderness of heart. If you could draw aside the curtain veiling the future, and see the result of your present course of action, you would surely be led to repent. By repentance you can save yourselves much sorrow. Letter 98, 1902, par. 7. The Holy Spirit cannot be revealed to the church members in Greater New York while dissension and strife exist. ... Letter 98, 1902, par. 9.”

“If you would unitedly put away your peculiar hereditary and cultivated traits of character, and work together, the Lord could work through you. But souls will not be convicted and converted until you come into unity and Christian fellowship. Lose sight of self. Keep your eyes fixed upon the Redeemer.” Letter 98, 1902, par. 10.

• Responding To Injustice.

Ellen White’s second son, Edson, who was out of the church for several decades and only returned to the fold at the age of 44, felt led to develop an evangelistic endeavor for the poor unreached black community in the South as a result of reading his mother’s “Our Duty to the Colored People.” His efforts included building the Morning Star, a river boat that served as a mobile church and school evangelizing along the Mississippi river, over time started and supported fifty mission schools, and published at least six books. Though Ellen White was a strong supporter of his work, others were less supportive and accordingly treated Edson unjustly at times, including having money raised for his mission reappropriated for other purposes, and having another book published instead of his. She agreed that he had been treated unjustly, but she still counseled him to avoid stirring up strife. Learn from the following paragraphs how to handle situations of injustice.”

In 1899 she wrote: “Words spoken hastily wound and bruise souls, and the deepest wound is made upon the soul of the speaker.” Letter 117, 1899.18.

“Any unpleasant spirit displayed is sure to arouse the demon of passion in unguarded hearts. ... My son, avoid speaking words which will stir up strife. Rather suffer wrong than do wrong.” Letter 117, 1899.21.

In 1901 Mrs. White wrote:

“No issues are to be forced.” Letter 54, 1901.2.

“God desires us to understand that we are never to try to rule or to seek for the supremacy. Active humility and true goodness are to be constantly cherished. ... My son, do not manifest a dictatorial spirit. Work with “with an eye single to the glory of God. Whatever may come into your experience, remember that the heavenly Father knows all things, and that He will set things in order if we are not in too great haste.” Letter 54, 1901.7.

“There is now to be no swaying of things in wrong lines. All are to work in perfect harmony. Unify, unify is the word from heaven.” Letter 54, 1901.13.

“My son, do not attempt to do great things in your own strength. Counsel with your brethren. If you do not do this, it will often be said of you, He is determined to have his own way. You will be misunderstood. Leave with God the wrongs which you think exist. Be easily entreated, and be not easily provoked. Do not speak angry words because of something you have heard. This hurts your influence.” Letter 54, 1901.15.

“Learn to look upon things which do not appear straightforward without being made unhappy and wretched. We must learn to suffer annoyances from others without becoming irritated. Try to meet disappointment and hindrance without taking it so much to heart. Let not God be dishonored by a single murmur from your lips.” Letter 54, 1901.16.

“Let the words on your lips be pleasant words. Censure no one. Educate yourself to excuse and pity all who make mistakes.” Letter 54, 1901.19.

In the 1901 manuscript 129, she wrote:

“I wish you to have no murmuring. I wish you, my son, to cast no reflection upon the men at the head of responsibilities in Battle Creek, although guilt has rested upon the managers in the past, for it is not your work to do this. If you have words of encouragement to speak, then speak; if not, then keep silent.” Manuscript 129, 1901, par. 10.

“Then let your words be carefully chosen, choice words, clean words, pure words, fraught with Christian sympathy and love. Then you will not bruise souls already smarting under the results of their own course of action, but give strength. Silence is often eloquence.” Manuscript 129, 1901, par. 11.”

“The Lord would have you all forbearing.” Manuscript 129, 1901, par. 13.

“At this time do not write or speak one word of censure or recrimination to any one, notwithstanding it may appear to you they are justly deserved.” Manuscript 129, 1901, par. 17.

“Jesus does not receive glory from any one who is an accuser of the brethren. Let not a day pass that we are not healing and restoring old wounds. Cultivate love, and let no words of evil surmising escape our lips. ... Cut away from our speech all severity; talk sweetly; and hold your confidence in Jesus firmly.” Manuscript 129, 1901, par. 24.

“Then shall we think it becomes us as children of God to be so ready to complain? Certainly we greatly weaken and endanger our souls by so doing. ... Close the door of the ears from hearing complaints. Close the door of the heart that prejudice may not take possession of our souls.” Manuscript 129, 1901, par. 28.

“Never let haughty and accusing words come from any believers against other believers.” Manuscript 129, 1901, par. 30.”

• Signing A Pledge And The Forgotten Revival of 1873.In 1872 James White wrote that the Battle Creek Church, though large, was in an unfortunate condition. The members were poor, absorbed in their daily activities and suffered from spiritual apathy. As a result, important developments such as the establishment of a school were being retarded. There was need of revival. Another issue was Uriah and Harriet Smith’s resistance to Mrs. White’s admonitions. A sense of suspicion hovered over the congregation. The revival began with the Whites holding daily meetings, wherein they shared how God had uplifted their spiritual experiences and brought about a rededication to God. There were strong appeals for the attendees to do likewise. As the meetings continued, the Spirit worked on hearts, confessions were made, attendance grew, and eventually 200 people were said to have participated. The capstone of the revival was the reconciliation of Uriah and Harriet Smith with James and Ellen White, including Harriet publicly confessing her role in agitating on the issue of standards. To formalize the new commitments of the attendees, Uriah Smith drafted a “solemn covenant” in which the members pledged to hold up the hands of those called to lead out in the work—James and Ellen White in particular—and to accept the reproofs sent by God. • Beware Of Modern “Stoning.

Mrs. White had a dream where she saw Dr. Kellogg talking with pastors, making statements arising from his “suspicions and imagination.” All the while he held something that he was hiding in his hand. Then she saw him go into his room where she saw many stones carefully piled on the floor, each one have a name, a report and a number. She spoke of a young man who often instructed her coming and sadly looking at the pile of stones, and asking Dr. Kellogg what he proposed to do with them. “The Doctor looked up with a sharp, gratified laugh. “These are mistakes of Elder White.”

I am going to stone him with them, stone him to death.” The young man said, “You are bringing back the stoning system, are you? You are worse than the ancient Pharisees. Who gave you this work to do? ... it was not for you to degrade your powers for this kind of work. Satan is an accuser of the brethren.” Manuscript 2, 1880, par. 2. Dr. Kellogg responded, “Elder White is trying to tear us to pieces. He is working against us, and to save our reputation and life, we must work against him. I shall use every stone to the last pebble here upon this floor to kill him. This is only self-defense, a disagreeable necessity.” Manuscript 2, 1880, par. 3. ... “You have a higher calling, a more important work. Leave all such work of gathering stones for the enemies of God’s law. You brethren must love one another, or you are not children of the day, but of darkness.” Manuscript 2, 1880, par. 5. She then spoke of seeing her husband doing the same thing, gathering stones and preparing to use them in stoning Dr. Kellogg. Manuscript 2, 1880, par. 6.

Matthew 18:15-17 (NKJV)
"Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector."

• Let the Holy Spirit direct. “The church is to be a living, active missionary agency, moved and controlled by the Holy Spirit. The members are to act as one, blending in perfect union. This miracle the cross of Christ is fully able to accomplish for the good of an unbelieving world.” Manuscript 147, 1902.16.

• Seek to know and do God’s will. Study guides on knowing and doing God’s will can be found at discipleheart.com. “Worry is blind, and cannot discern the future, but Jesus sees the end from the beginning. In every difficulty He has His way prepared to bring relief. Our heavenly Father has a thousand ways to provide for us, of which we know nothing. Those who accept the one principle of making the service and honor of God supreme will find perplexities vanish, and a plain path before their feet.” Desire of Ages, p. 330.

“Spread every plan before God with fasting, with the humbling of the soul before the Lord Jesus; and commit thy ways unto the Lord, and the sure promise is that He will direct thy paths.” Letter 45, 1893, par. 27.

“Do not, through impatience, cut the knot of difficulty, making matters hopeless. Let God untangle the snarled-up threads for you. He is wise enough to manage the complications of our lives. He has skill and tact. We cannot always see His plans; we must wait patiently their unfolding and not mar and destroy them. He will reveal them to us in His own good time. Seek for unity; cultivate love and conformity to Christ in all things.” Testimonies, Vol. 5, 348.1.

“Again and again I have been instructed to say to our people: Let your faith and trust be in God. Do not depend on any erring man to define your duty. ... Every church member should understand that God is the one to whom to look for an understanding of individual duty. It is right that brethren counsel together; but when men arrange just what their brethren shall do, let them answer that they have chosen the Lord as their counselor.” Testimonies, Vol. 9, 280.1.

• Seek reconciliation.

Matthew 5:23-24 (NKJV)
“Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.”

“One great reason why our brethren and sisters have no more confidence toward God in prayer, is, that nearly all neglect to follow the words of Jesus in preserving harmony between brethren. They allow various wrongs to exist with members of the church, which create bitter envy and strife; and while these differences exist, God neither hears nor answers their prayers.” Review and Herald, April 15, 1880, par. 9.

• Follow God’s “Matthew 18:15-17” plan.

“In the Word of God there are definite rules laid down to guide us in dealing with the erring. Unless these rules are followed, confusion will result. The Bible rule should be strictly obeyed. Christ has outlined our course of action; let us follow it to the letter.” Letter 48, 1907, par. 24.

“Hasty decisions, formed under the influence of strong feeling, without time for deliberation or for asking counsel from God, are generally wrong and are often exceedingly unjust.” Letter 48, 1902, par. 14.

“The specific directions here given are very largely disregarded, and dissension is the result. Christ knew the perversity of the hearts of men—even of those who should be brought into church capacity, and He outlined the course to be pursued. He knew that this, if followed, would close the door to dissension, misunderstanding, alienation, strife, and bitterness.” Manuscript 89, 1898, par. 3.

“If one errs, if from any cause there is disagreement, do not let time pass, but go to work at once to settle variances and come into unity. Those who are thus tried are to work according to God’s plan and are to settle the matter of disagreement between themselves.” Letter 183, 1901, par. 16.

“This is God’s ordained plan, to pray and converse with one another; and in the place of recrimination try to break down the existing barriers, that heart may be cemented to heart, that self-will and selfishness should die; for in the work of reclaiming, the statement is made, ‘The fervent, effectual prayer of every one of faith availeth much.’” [James 5:16.] Letter 183, 1901, par. 17.

“Human beings are Christ’s property, purchased by Him at an infinite price, bound to Him by the love that He and His Father have manifested for them. How careful, then, we should be in our dealing with one another! Men have no right to surmise evil in regard to their fellow men. Church members have no right to follow their own impulses and inclinations in dealing with fellow members who have erred. They should not even express their prejudices regarding the erring, for thus they place in other minds the leaven of evil. Reports unfavorable to a brother or sister in the church are communicated from one to another of the church members. Mistakes are made and injustice is done because of an unwillingness on the part of someone to follow the directions given by the Lord Jesus.” Testimonies, Vol. 7, 260.2.

“If thy brother shall trespass against thee,” Christ declared, “go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone.” Matthew 18:15. Do not tell others of the wrong. One person is told, then another, and still another; and continually the report grows, and the evil increases, till the whole church is made to suffer. Settle the matter between thee and him alone. This is God’s plan.

“Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbor hath put thee to shame. Debate thy cause with thy neighbor himself; and discover not a secret to another.” Proverbs 25:8-9. Do not suffer sin upon your brother; but do not expose him, and thus increase the difficulty, making the reproof seem like a revenge. Correct him in the way outlined in the Word of God.” Testimonies, Vol. 7, 260.3.

“Whatever the character of the offense, this does not change the plan that God has made for the settlement of misunderstandings and personal injuries. Speaking alone and in the spirit of Christ to the one who is in fault will often remove the difficulty. Go to the erring one, with a heart filled with Christ’s love and sympathy, and seek to adjust the matter. Reason with him calmly and quietly. Let no angry words escape your lips. Speak in a way that will appeal to his better judgment. Remember the words: ‘He which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.’ James 5:20.” Testimonies, Vol. 7, 261.2.

“As those thus united in Christian fellowship offer prayer to God and pledge themselves to deal justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God, great blessing comes to them. They have wronged others; they continue the work of repentance, confession, and restitution, fully set to do good to one another. This is the fulfilling of the law of Christ.” Testimonies, Vol. 7, 262.1.

Heavenly Father,
We come before You in humility and reverence, acknowledging our need for Your guidance in our relationships with one another. Lord, help us to follow Your plan of reconciliation as outlined in Your Word. Teach us to speak the truth in love, to forgive freely, and to restore with meekness and patience.

Remove pride, envy, and prejudice from our hearts. Let Your Spirit lead us to genuine unity, harmony, and brotherly love. Bind us together as one body in Christ, so that we may reflect Your love and bring glory to Your name. Teach us to bear with one another in love, to seek counsel in Your wisdom, and to always act in ways that build up, rather than tear down.

Lord, may our fellowship be a testimony of Your grace, mercy, and the transforming power of the cross. Let our church be a house of prayer, a place of peace, and a beacon of reconciliation to the world around us.

In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, we pray.

• The Vine and the Branches

John 15:4-5 (NKJV)
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

“In the branches of a vine there is diversity, and yet in this diversity there is unity. Every branch is united to the parent stalk. Every branch draws its nourishment from the same source. When we are branches of the true Vine, there will be no quarreling among us, no strife for the supremacy, no disparaging of one another.” — General Conference Bulletin, April 25, 1901, par. 8.

“The lesson of the vine and its branches holds a deep meaning for the workers in the cause of God. Every worker is to draw his strength from the same Source, and while the individuality of each is to be maintained, unity and harmony is to be preserved. When this spirit of oneness pervades the work, our institutions throughout the world will be united in their interests, while the individuality of any one will not be merged into that of any other one.... It is not the purpose of God to centralize in this way, bringing all the interests of one branch of the work under the management of a comparatively few men. In His great purpose of advancing the cause of truth in the earth, He designs that every part of His work shall blend with every other part. The workers are to draw together in the Spirit of Christ. In their diversity, they are to preserve unity. One institution is not to be brought under the control of another, but all are to exercise their powers harmoniously.” — Letter 112, 1907, pp. 4-5.

Lessons from the Vine and Branches:

• Branches must be vitally connected to the vine (Members must be vitally connected to Christ).

• Connected branches experience ongoing pruning to maximize fruit-bearing (Members are pruned on an ongoing basis to maximize their fruit-bearing ability).

• Branches not connected to the vine wither and are eventually cut away (Members who fail to connect to Christ wither spiritually and eventually fall away).

• Branches have a common source of nourishment (Christ is the common source of spiritual nourishment for the members).

• Branches produce the fruit of the vine (Members produce the fruits of the Spirit and reflect Christ’s character, e.g., meekness).

• Oneness with other branches comes from their common connection to the vine (Members are in oneness by virtue of their connection to Christ).

• Common sap from the vine brings unity in spite of diversity (Common spiritual life from Christ brings unity to the members).

• Branches retain their individuality though connected to the vine (Members retain their individuality though connected to Christ).

1 Corinthians 12:12-14, 18 (NKJV)

“In the human body, from the eyes to the feet there is variety. And all these members are dependent upon one another to make a perfect whole. In all the variety composing the human body, there is harmonious action, in conformity to the laws controlling the being. There is an unseen, conscious, invisible unity, keeping the bodily machinery in action, each part working in harmony with every other part.” — Manuscript 105, 1900, par. 1.

Lessons from the Body of Christ:

• Every body part is needed (Every member is needed).

• Every body part is important (Every member is valued).

• Every body part has a specific role (Every member has a specific role).

• Every body part is connected (Every member is connected to Christ).

• Every body part depends on the blood (Every member partakes of a common source of life).

• Every body part depends on the heart (Every member depends on a common power).

• Every body part is sustained by food and oxygen from outside (Every member depends on spiritual food from Christ).

• Every body part obeys the brain (Every member obeys Christ, the Head of the Church).

• Ideal health depends on the harmony of all parts (Spiritual success depends on unity of members).

• The body responds to pain in any part (The church responds to the struggles of its members).

• A Spiritual House

1 Peter 2:4-5 (NKJV)
“Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

“When the rough stones are prepared for the building, they must be taken into the shop, and hewed and squared. The process is often sharp as the stone is pressed down upon the wheel, but the rough coarseness is being removed, and the lustre begins to appear. The Lord spends not His time upon worthless material; only His jewels are polished after the similitude of a palace.” — Letter 27, 1896.

Lessons:

• Living stones must choose to be hewed and squared.

• Place themselves upon the altar.

• Can remove themselves at any time (Rom. 12:1).

1 Kings 6:7 (NKJV)
“And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built.”

“The Jewish temple was built of hewn stones quarried out of the mountains; and every stone was fitted for its place in the temple, hewed, polished, and tested before it was brought to Jerusalem. … This building represents God’s spiritual temple, which is composed of material gathered out of every nation, and tongue, and people, of all grades, high and low, rich and poor, learned and unlearned. … Let no one think that there need not be a stroke placed upon him.” — Testimonies, Vol. 9, 180.2.

Lessons:

• All who have claimed to be Christians are hewed and squared by the same Master Builder.

• Every believer is carefully fitted into God’s spiritual temple.

• Nature and Diversity

“From the endless variety of plants and flowers, we may learn an important lesson. All blossoms are not the same in form or color. Some possess healing virtues. Some are always fragrant. There are professing Christians who think it their duty to make every Christian like themselves. This is man’s plan, not God’s plan. In the church of God there is room for characters as varied as are the flowers in a garden.” — Letter 95, 1902.

Lesson:

• Enjoy the marvelous diversity God has created.

• Each person has something valuable to contribute.

• The Diversity of the Disciples

Ephesians 4:11-16 (NKJV)
“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, 12 and some pastors and teachers, 13 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”

“In these first disciples was presented a marked diversity. They were to be the world’s teachers, and they represented widely varied types of character. … They needed to come into unity of feeling, thought, and action. This unity it was Christ’s object to secure. To this end He sought to bring them into unity with Himself.” — Education 86.1.

Lesson:

• If He brought them into unity, we can also be brought into unity.

• The Diversity of Gifts

1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (NKJV)
“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.”

“God calls upon you to unite with your brethren. He has assigned different gifts to the different members of His body. … He is put to shame when the members of His body work contrary one to the other. … Perfect unity must exist in a diversity of gifts. … All must blend together in the work, thus making the work not one-sided, but a complete whole.” — Letter 121, 1898, par. 23.

Lessons:

• Recognize God’s authority and ownership of gifts.

• Place these gifts on God’s altar.

• Unity is essential in diversity of gifts.

• The Diversity of Humankind

Prayer for Unity

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that in Christ we are one body, united as members of Your spiritual temple. Forgive us for division, pride, and favoritism. Help us to draw our nourishment from Christ alone, to bear fruit for Your kingdom, and to value every member as You do. Break down every barrier of nationality, color, caste, or social status, and let the unity of Your Spirit shine through us. May our oneness testify to the world of Your love, and may we reflect the character of Jesus in all our relationships. In His name we pray, Amen.

“If you have envy, suspicion, or jealousy in your heart, you have a work to do. Confess your sins, come into harmony with your brethren. Speak well of them. Throw out no unfavorable hints, no suggestions that will awaken distrust in the minds of others. Guard their reputation as sacredly as you would have them guard yours; love them as you would be loved of Jesus. Work for their interests instead of seeking to tear them down, that you may build up self on their ruin. Satan is an accuser of the brethren, and he loves to have you help him. But disappoint him. Do not let him triumph over you.” Letter 132, 1910.19

Prayer for Unity

Heavenly Father,
How good and pleasant it is when Your children dwell together in unity. We confess that too often we have allowed envy, jealousy, and suspicion to divide us. Please cleanse us, Lord, and give us hearts that love as Jesus loves.

Help us to speak well of one another, to guard each other’s reputation, and to work for the good of our brethren rather than for ourselves. Keep us from Satan’s snares of criticism and discord, and instead fill us with the spirit of humility, kindness, and forgiveness.

May our unity be a testimony to the world that Christ lives in us, and may Your church be strengthened as we stand together in love.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for Unity

Heavenly Father,
Forgive us for the times we have allowed criticism, pride, and division to take root in our hearts. Your Word warns us not to bite and devour one another, yet often we have failed to show the love and humility of Christ. Lord, remove the spirit of strife and replace it with the spirit of peace. Teach us to press together, to bear with one another in love, and to seek the unity that only Your Spirit can give.

We pray that Your church may reflect the character of Christ—not in selfishness or bitterness—but in gentleness, patience, and brotherly love. Protect us from Satan’s devices that seek to divide and destroy. Make us one, even as You and Your Son are one. May the world see our unity and be drawn to the Savior who binds us together.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

James 4:11 (NKJV)
“Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.”

“It pains me to say that there are unruly tongues among church members. There are false tongues that feed on mischief. There are sly, whispering tongues. There is tattling, impertinent meddling, adroit quizzing. Testimonies, Vol. 5, 94.2 I saw that the very spirit of perjury, that would turn truth into falsehood, good into evil, and innocence into crime, is now active. Satan exults over the condition of God’s professed people. While many are neglecting their own souls, they eagerly watch for an opportunity to criticize and condemn others. Testimonies, Vol. 5, 94.3

Is there no law of kindness to be observed? Have Christians been authorized of God to criticize and condemn one another? … Satan exults when he can defame or wound a follower of Christ. He is “the accuser of our brethren.” Shall Christians aid him in his work? Testimonies, Vol. 5, 95.2

To the Christian every act of faultfinding, every word of censure or condemnation, is painful. Testimonies, Vol. 5, 95.3 The Lord is testing and proving His people. You may be just as severe and critical with your own defective character as you please; but be kind, pitiful, and courteous toward others. Testimonies, Vol. 5, 97.2

A writer has said that “envy’s memory is nothing but a row of hooks to hang up grudges on.” Pamphlet 117, 32.2 Envy is not merely a perverseness of temper, but a distemper, which disorders all the faculties. Pamphlet 117, 32.3 The envious man shuts his eyes to the good qualities and noble deeds of others. He is always ready to disparage and misrepresent that which is excellent. Men often confess and forsake other faults; but there is little to be hoped for from the envious man. Since to envy a person is to admit that he is a superior, pride will not permit any concession. If an attempt be made to convince the envious person of his sin, he becomes even more bitter against the object of his passion, and too often he remains incurable.” Pamphlet 117, 32.4

Prayer for Unity
Heavenly Father,
Forgive us when our words tear down instead of build up. Cleanse our hearts from envy, pride, and faultfinding. Teach us to see others through the eyes of Christ, with kindness, patience, and compassion. May Your Spirit silence every whisper of criticism and replace it with words of encouragement and love. Unite us as one body, bound together in humility and grace. Help us to guard our tongues, to lift each other up in prayer, and to live as true witnesses of Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“The early Christians began to look for defects in one another. Dwelling upon mistakes, giving place to unkind criticism, they lost sight of the Saviour and of the great love He had revealed for sinners. They became more strict in regard to outward ceremonies, more particular about the theory of the faith, more severe in their criticisms. In their zeal to condemn others they forgot their own errors. They forgot the lesson of brotherly love that Christ had taught. And, saddest of all, they were unconscious of their loss. They did not realize that happiness and joy were going out of their lives, and that soon they would walk in darkness, having shut the love of God out of their hearts.” Testimonies, Vol. 8, 241.3

Prayer for Unity
Heavenly Father, forgive us for the times we have focused on the faults of others while neglecting our own need for Your grace. Teach us to love one another with the same patience and compassion that Jesus shows to us. Remove the spirit of criticism from our hearts and replace it with kindness, humility, and brotherly love. May Your church be united in Christ, walking together in truth, joy, and peace. Fill us with the Holy Spirit, that we may reflect Your love and bring light to a world in darkness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.” - Philippians 2:2

The strongest possible evidence is given of Christ’s divinity.
“Harmony and union existing among men of varied dispositions is the strongest witness that can be borne that God has sent His Son into the world to save sinners.” Testimonies, Vol. 8, 242.3.

Unity brings true conversions.
“When professing Christians meet the requirements of this prayer of Christ, there will be true, solid conversions. Self will not be magnified; self will not strive for the highest place. At any cost believers will meet the requirement.” Manuscript 9, 1906.17.

Unity brings perfection.
“I have repeated this wonderful statement; for it contains the very evidence that we are to present to the world—the perfection of unity in the followers of Christ. The members of the church of God must reach this perfection. I cannot do more than urge upon them that this perfection is found in unity in Christ.” Manuscript 9, 1906.16.

The full impartation of the Holy Spirit will be given.
“When God’s people place themselves in proper relation to Him and to one another, there will be a full impartation of the Holy Spirit for the harmonious ‘combination of the whole body.’” Signs of the Times, February 7, 1900, par. 5.

Dissension and strife prevent the revealing of the Holy Spirit.
“The Holy Spirit cannot be revealed … while dissension and strife exist.” Letter 98, 1902.

Unity purges the church of discord and contention.
“Christ is leading out a people to stand in perfect unity on the broad platform of eternal truth. ... This refining process is designed to purge the church from the spirit of discord and contention and from all unrighteousness, that they may build up the cause of God and concentrate their energies on the great work before them,—that of saving souls.” Bible Echo, September 1, 1888, par. 1.

Unity is the greatest proof of Christ’s power to take away sin.
“Unity with Christ establishes a bond of unity with one another. This unity is the most convincing proof to the world of the majesty and virtue of Christ and of His power to take away sin.” Manuscript 111, 1903.9.

Unity is the great strength of the church.
“This unity with believers in and through Christ is the great strength of the church!” Sermons and Talks, Vol. 1, 194.3.

Unity brings conviction.
God’s remnant experience the “transformation of character for which Christ so earnestly prayed.” Manuscript 91, 1909, par. 9.

Unity exemplifies the great principle of love.
“When all who love God and keep His commandments work unselfishly, each working to build up not merely that which is under his immediate supervision, ... when they, in harmonious love, in unity of heart and action, interestedly favor others as they themselves have been favored, they will reveal to our world the great principle of the love of Christ.” Letter 110, 1900.

Unity brings great efficiency.
“One who works in harmony with the counsel of God, and in unity with the brethren, will be more efficient to do good, than ten will be who do not realize the necessity of depending upon God, and of acting in harmony with the general plan of the work.” Review and Herald, May 29, 1888, par. 8.

Barriers of selfishness will disappear.
“When God’s chosen people are of one mind, barriers of selfishness will disappear as by magic, and many, many more souls will be converted because of the unity which exists among believers.” Signs of the Times, February 7, 1900, par. 10.

Mountains of difficulty will be reduced to molehills.
“The discordant may be brought into harmony. Unselfishness is to bind God’s people together with firm, tender bonds. There is a vast power in the church when the energies of the members are under the control of the Spirit, gathering good from every source, educating, training, and disciplining self. Thus is presented to God a powerful organization, through which He can work for the conversion of sinners.” Signs of the Times, February 7, 1900, par. 11.

Prayer for Unity
Heavenly Father,
We come before You with humble hearts, longing to fulfill the joy of Christ by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, and of one mind. Forgive us for the times we have allowed pride, self-interest, and discord to take root among us. Teach us to value one another above ourselves and to walk together in the bond of peace.

Lord, pour out Your Spirit upon us in full measure, that our unity may testify to the world of Christ’s power to save. Remove every barrier of selfishness and contention, and bind us together in the unbreakable cords of Your love. Let our harmony bring true conversions, great efficiency in Your work, and the perfection of character You desire for Your people.

May our lives, joined in Christ, become the strongest evidence of His divinity and the greatest proof of His power to take away sin. Use our united witness to draw many to the cross. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

Acts 2:1, 46–47 (NKJV)
“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”

What was the result of the outpouring of the Spirit on the day of Pentecost?

“The glad tidings of a risen Saviour were carried to the uttermost parts of the inhabited world. The hearts of the disciples were surcharged with a benevolence so full, so deep, so far-reaching, that it impelled them to go to the ends of the earth, testifying: God forbid that we should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. As they proclaimed the truth as it is in Jesus, hearts yielded to the power of the message. The church beheld converts flocking to her from all directions. Believers were reconverted. Sinners united with Christians in seeking the pearl of great price. Those who had been the bitterest opponents of the gospel became its champions. One interest prevailed. One subject of emulation swallowed up all others. The only ambition of the believers was to reveal the likeness of Christ’s character and to labor for the enlargement of His kingdom.” — Manuscript 157, 1903

The unity of believers at Pentecost was not a passive agreement—it was a Spirit-empowered harmony of purpose, love, and mission. Their hearts were knit together in Christ, their desires were purified, and their focus was singular: to glorify God and spread the gospel. This same unity is available to us today through the same Holy Spirit, and when we embrace it, God can work mightily through His church again.

Prayer for Unity
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the example of unity, love, and bold witness we see in the early church at Pentecost. Pour out Your Spirit upon us today as You did then. Remove selfish ambition, pride, and division from among us, and fill us with one desire—to reveal the likeness of Christ in our lives and to labor for the enlargement of Your kingdom. Knit our hearts together in love, and make us of one accord in prayer, worship, and mission. Let our homes, churches, and communities be places where Your Spirit moves powerfully and where many are brought to salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for Unity

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, recognizing our own need for grace and the transforming power of Your Spirit. Forgive us for the times we have looked at the faults of others while ignoring our own need for change. Lord, draw our hearts closer to You so that in coming nearer to Christ, we may come nearer to one another. Teach us to first cultivate unity, love, and kindness within our homes, so that this spirit may overflow into our church family and beyond. Remove pride, selfishness, and division from our midst, and replace them with the gentleness, patience, and love of Jesus. Bind us together in the perfect bond of peace, that the world may see Christ in us. In His precious name we pray, Amen.
