This weekend, I walked into Neiman Marcus and tried on a handful of pieces I’ve had my eye on, plus a couple of other finds that felt irresistible. The last time I stepped into one of their fitting rooms was back in 2022. I’ve gotten so accustomed to ordering everything online that I almost forgot the simple joy of playing dress up. And that’s exactly what I did. I spent quite some time trying on everything, experimenting with different looks, and capturing everything so that I could share it with you.

There’s really nothing like experiencing clothes in person—being able to touch the fabrics and see the color palette up close. Especially with a brand like The Row, that tactile element is part of the charm. I also love the way they curate their interiors. And while their corner at Neiman’s doesn’t quite compare to the Melrose store (or their other locations), it’s still beautifully done and well worth a visit.

Immediately, I was drawn to the butter-yellow tones, especially in the form of this cashmere V-neck and this beautiful silk dress (more on that later).

Could you find a butter-yellow V-neck anywhere else? Sure, but would it be this specific shade of butter yellow, or have the same softness and feel? That’s the question.

This V-neck was absolutely perfect. It’s called the Migeia Top, and I’m wearing a size M. I love how lightweight it feels and how it works as both an accent piece and a versatile layer. It pairs beautifully with jeans, as pictured above, or could be draped over the shoulders with a dress.

Stay In This Lane

On the left, I styled it with the Dacania jeans (also available here) and black pointed leather mules, two pieces I’ve also been dreaming about. The jeans were a no for me, simply because I don’t find them groundbreaking enough for my closet, but I can see the appeal. The mules are a classic wardrobe staple, though I do think you can find something very similar elsewhere. Take for example these.

On the right, I styled the sweater with pieces from my own closet: jeans from CH, Constance sandals, and The Row’s Classic Belt in deep brown. The bra is definitely not the right choice here (Cuup balconette), but it helps paint the picture of just how lightweight and sheer this sweater feels.

What shocked me the most was how much I loved this bag. When I saw it online a couple of months ago, it didn’t feel like anything particularly special. But in person, that was a completely different story. It’s incredibly easy to style, perhaps it’s the classic shape or the neutral tones. Either way, it was such a pleasure pretending this was mine.

What I really went in hoping to find were pieces I’d had saved for a while, and I was happy to spot them on the floor. I love an easy, classic piece more than anything. I wrote about this Floris white long sleeve here and how I was especially drawn to the drop shoulder.

Sadly, my size wasn’t in stock, so I’m trying on an XL here, which made me realize I could easily wear a size M for a more relaxed fit. Styled with Dacania jeans, Constance sandals, and Beau tote.

The Nitha sweater (available here and here), was another piece I was drawn to, though I couldn’t realistically see it in my closet. I already own the Maira sweater, and trying on the Nitha confirmed that the two felt a bit too similar in theory. I have on a size M. Both tops paired with Daciana Jeans.

Gary was the sales associate helping me out that day. He ran upstairs to send me photos of the shoe selection and brought the pairs I chose into the fitting room so I could try them on with the clothes. He was so kind that I felt indebted asking for more than two pairs, though I definitely need to go back and try those loafers!

Next up, the Tori Shrunken T-Shirt in Navy (available here and here). This runs small as the name suggests, and feels thicker and sturdy compared to other cotton tees I’ve tried. For reference, I own the Margo from Leset in navy, which is much lighter and more breezy. The Tori Tee, on the other hand, feels like a great option to rotate throughout the year.

Middle, I have them styled with the Karsten cropped cotton pants. For reference, I’m 5’6”, and the length was perfect on me. Though this image suggests otherwise, they’re not entirely white. On the floor, they read as a soft, powdery blue, and I’m curious if that tone would become more noticeable in sunlight. They’re incredibly comfortable and feel so light, almost like you’re wearing nothing. They’re the kind of pants that feel effortless for everyday, but can also be easily dressed up.

I paired them with these white Mary Janes, which I would have bought on the spot if my size had been available. I’m a true 38 in The Row flats, so the 39 felt a bit too big, while the 37.5 felt snug. I couldn’t risk it, but these will definitely become part of the closet at some point.

I couldn’t snap a good photo of the following dress, but just know it’s one of those no-brainer pieces every woman should have in her closet. It’s called the Mavy Dress, and it is incredibly soft. Yet another piece that can be styled with a strappy heel and clutch for an evening look, or with a raffia bag and sandals, like pictured above for something more effortless

But the best piece of this entire haul was this incredible silk dress (alt. option here and this looks identical). It’s probably one of the nicest things I’ve ever tried on, and I couldn’t help but think of Andie in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I can’t justify it for myself right now, but if you’re headed somewhere special soon, please get this. It’s called the Barika Dress (available here, and here), and it truly is the perfect length. It has two side slits, a classic back, and is absolutely to die for.

While I didn’t leave with everything I tried on, I walked away with plenty of inspiration. I hope this post was helpful to you as well and gave you a better look at these pieces, especially if they were already on your radar.

We booked a last-minute mini getaway at El Roblar last week, and I’ve been meaning to share all the details here ever since.

We checked in pretty late, so after snapping a few photos in the room for work, we went straight to the pool to make the most of the rest of the afternoon. Since we were only in town for a day, I kept things light in the clothes department and just brought my trusty five-year-old one-piece from Eres and a Matteau sarong I found on sale last year (similar-ish here) for pool attire.

The hero of the trip for me was the Toteme beach bag I shared in my most recent article.

It’s even better than I expected: really soft, capacious, and perfectly slouchy, which is my favorite part, and exactly what I was hoping for this summer. It feels as worn in as a vintage L.L. Bean tote from the '90s.

Stay In This Lane

As much as I love a structured tote, sometimes you want a worn-in beach bag that molds easily to your arm, and this delivers exactly that. It also comes in dark brown (if you’re worried about the white getting dirty) but personally, I think that’s part of the charm.

After a refreshing swim, we headed upstairs to change for dinner. We ate at the Condor Bar, which is tucked inside the hotel lobby. The dim lighting, and rustic cabin decor, made it feel like the perfect moody date night, it was almost like we were in Aspen.

Not pictured, but I wore my favorite floral Matteau dress (on sale) from two seasons ago, nude Harlow kitten heels (sold out everywhere but these are new season and are a steal), and a very old baby woven basket that somehow makes an appearance every summer.

We ordered the ribs with papaya slaw, a grilled fish sandwich, two margaritas, and a tres leches topped with Harry’s Berries for dessert. It was magical.

After dinner, we went back upstairs to change before heading out for a walk. I threw on a pair of Vir Vita pants, Row beach sandals, and a Row Corzas sweater, and accidentally gave golfer dad vibes, but I have to say, I was extremely comfortable.

The following morning, we had breakfast and then made our way back to the pool. My favorite hair accessory is always a baseball hat, and I almost always have one in my bag, so I wore it while we lounged and worked on our laptops for the rest of the morning. I also brought this Sézane V-neck in grey, which was so easy to throw on post-pool. Later, we wandered around the hotel until we found the gigantic tortoises.

Check-out was at 12, so we quickly changed, packed, and walked across the street to Rory’s Other Place, where we worked for the rest of the afternoon. The weather was perfect, sunny with a slight breeze that kept everything feeling fresh.

We sipped matchas and ordered the savory toast to share. I threw on the same Sézane V-neck, paired with WNU drawcord shorts and a linen button-down tied at the waist, an old pair of Row Kelly sunglasses, beach flip-flops, and the Toteme beach bag I mentioned before. I have to admit, writing this post made me realize I need to get better at taking outfit photos—but on this trip, I was mostly focused on capturing from my POV.

My beauty essentials for the pool this trip consisted of:

Costa Brazil Sunlight Body Oil. The scent is light but heavenly, and it feels so good on your skin after a dip in the pool. It also leaves the nicest glow. I haven’t seen the mini in stock lately, which is perfect for travel, but the full size is definitely worth it.

Chanel Hydra Mist. I find myself constantly spraying this on my face. It’s faintly scented, so something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive, but I love it. I also carry a small refillable spray with rose water from Santa Maria Novella that’s easy to throw in your bag.

Toiletry bag essentials:

Costa Brazil Kaya Oil. I love using the Kaya oil post-pool and layering it over U Beauty’s body hydrator. Skin feels nourished and refreshed, which is essential after a day spent in the sun and in a pool with chlorine.

I completely forgot body SPF on this trip, but thankfully I packed Dr. Loretta’s face sunscreen, which saved me.

Le Prunier also makes an amazing SPF, but for this trip I brought their oil makeup remover, which is one of my holy grail products. It removes everything, to the point where you almost don’t need a face wash, but me being me, I always do. I brought one from Odacité, which I’ve probably repurchased close to 100 times, not even an exaggeration.

Also on rotation right now are their brightening serum, hyaluronic acid + retinol serum, and Crème de la Nuit. I’ve used these for years, and that’s something I don’t see changing anytime soon.

To wrap things up in this department, I also brought along an Agent Nateur deo (currently loving this scent), and their toothpaste and toothbrush that make even brushing your teeth feel a little more enjoyable, at least visually.

For hair, I brought a black glossy Emi Jay hairclip, mini Crown Affair leave-in conditioner, Roz Hair travel-size Santa Lucia oil, and a vented Yves Durif hairbrush, which is great for wet hair.

Saie makes the perfect travel case. I brought the red one, which you can find exclusively at Violet Grey. I wear Saie makeup everyday, but this trip I wanted to give a few other things a fair shot:

I definitely overpacked in the makeup department and, of course, didn’t end up wearing everything I brought with me. For instance, I’ve been obsessed with the VB foundation since last year, so I threw it in my bag just in case, but forgot to reach for it. Apparently, I love it so much it comes with me for emotional support only.

For blush I packed the new Victoria Beckham Stylo Blush in Sienna, and the new Fara Homidi blush in Baie, plus my trusty Westman petit blush in petal. Not sure about you, but I need at least 3 options for blush at all times, even if I only end up wearing one of them.

From Westman I also I brought with me the petite mascara, baby contour, and baby highlighter. They call it “The Carry-On Edit” and if minimalism is your thing when it comes to bag toiletries, this is right up your alley.

For mascara I brought with me Merit’s new mascara in brown, I love a brown mascara in the day, but for nighttime, I’m very partial to this one.

Earlier this January, I purchased this Hermès pink lip balm, and it has quickly become a bag staple. It gives your lips the prettiest soft baby pink tint, making it the perfect base for the rest of your lip products. I also love to carry a mini U beauty lip balm with me at all times, great for travel and part of this collab they did with Crown Affair.

The rest of the items in my vanity case include this Victoria Beckham contour stick in Marble, concealer, and brow pencil, along with the Chanel Serum Concealer, Eye Stylo, and highlighter in Dragée. I also packed the Westman Atelier their Bronzing drops, Powder Brush and lip liner in Je Rêve, this Make Beauty eyebrow gel, and, last but not least, my favorite eyelash curler.

I spend every summer living in silk knit tops and strappy sandals. They’re my go-to because they’re timeless, feminine, and transition effortlessly from day to night.

This is the pairing I’m reaching for on repeat this season. The front detailing on this top absolutely gets me (in the best way). It transforms an otherwise simple piece into something that feels so special. I love it so much that I own it in multiple colors, as well as the long-sleeve versions. These pieces are from three seasons ago, but The RealReal often has similar styles in stock if you’re looking for something in the same vein.

In case you’re after something a bit more current, Gabriela Hearst makes this beautiful tank top version. Pair it with these Manolos and we’ll basically be twinning.

This summer, I’m eyeing a big capacious canvas bag, and this beach tote from Toteme has all my attention. It has Garden party feel without the Garden Party price tag. Even better, I think it's the kind of bag that only improves with age, a few marks from beach days, a softened shape from all the weekend trips, and you’ve got an heirloom in the making.

Speaking of heirlooms, I wish I'd kept all the bandanas from my teenage years. I'm pretty sure I owned a handful of colorful ones that I'd still be wearing every summer.I haven’t found a pattern I really like, so a neutral like this black headscarf with lace detailing feels easy and uncomplicated.

I talk about this often, but one of my favorite things about summers in LA, and a sweet memory from childhood, is the sweet scent of jasmine lingering in the air wherever you go. Earlier in May, I found myself picking up a bottle of jasmine oil at the Chanel boutique, which also happens to be one of their oldest beauty products. I went in just to browse, but I quickly spotted the bottle and was enamored by its sweet, delicate aroma. Most jasmine oils tend to be very potent or overpowering, but I like that this feels like a gentle touch on the skin. I apply it on the ends of my hair and the back of my wrist for a little aromatherapy before bed, and it is heaven.

The great thing about popping into one of their boutiques is that you get to see products that haven’t been released yet, so while I was there I also picked up their new Les Beiges serum concealer (I wear shade B20). I wasn’t in the market for a concealer, but what drew me in was the ceramic applicator—and of course, the formula. It instantly absorbs into my skin without creasing, and I was sold.

Also back in May, I picked up these suede beach sandals, and more recently this pair of cropped cords. Last fall I bought the Carlyl (currently on sale, btw) and fell in love with them, but they were a bit long on me and required a trip to the tailor. So when I saw these Fima straight jeans, I ran to check out. They fit exactly like the Carlyl, but are even better for 5'6 girls like me who love to skip the tailor. They hit right at the ankle. Also sandals are even better in person.

Another hero in my closet that comes out to play every summer is this linen maxi skirt I got from Mango two summers ago. I love how easily you can style it casually or dress it up in an instant. Sadly, they don’t make it anymore, but I found this one from Rue Sophie. It’s slightly shorter, but I love that even more. I also like this maxi version from Reformation, as well as this one from Etsy.

I get so many questions about my bedding over on Instagram, often accompanied by comments that it "looks like a cloud." I owe that to Parachute bedding. Pictured here are their brushed cotton sheets and duvet cover. The linen is also a favorite, but I specially love their brushed cotton because it feels so soft against the skin, almost soothing in a way. And more importantly, very breathable during the summer.

I'd been waiting for the day The Row released their version of the simple slingback sandal, and they finally did. It's such a nostalgic silhouette, you really can't go wrong with it.

For my birthday I picked up the leather version pictured above, but I also love the satin kitten version. They have completely different vibes, in my opinion. The kitten heel feels perfect for daytime (and night) with skirts or jeans, while the leather version feels a little sexier and makes the perfect shoe for a black-tie affair.

I’ve been seeing this handwoven brand everywhere all summer, and it’s completely grabbed my attention. After browsing the site, I found myself drawn to so many of their baskets. They look sturdy, but also like little pieces of art that are just as utilitarian as they are beautiful.

I’m mostly drawn to the little white shopper, but the small crescent clutch might be an evening game changer.

• The Violet Grey x CHORD UPF 27 Cap - It comes in the poolside box with a curated selection of the best summer products. It so soft and makes a great accessory.

• Leset Barb Slip Skirt - I love this shape, plus it’s a closet staple for sexy summer nights to pair with our silk knits this summer. Can’t tell which shade I love best.

• Macrene Actives High Performance Neck and Décolletage Treatment - If you’re in your 30s, I highly suggest incorporating a neck cream. This is my favorite, I promise it’s worth the investment.

• Cos Cashmere Tank - I love a cashmere tank in the summer, I wear them at night for warmth and leave the light layer behind.

• Fara Homidi Blonzer - The formula we know and love but now in this gorgeous pigment. I’m loving Baie.

• Chanel Hydra Gloss 458 - This color is so beautiful to look at, but on the lips you get a very delicate and subtle sparkle that makes your lips look juicy and fresh. Very wearable.

• Chanel Stylo in Mauvy Brown - I also wear eyeshadow in the daytime now thanks to this. It’s perfect.

• Cos Baseball Tee - Baseball tees are having a moment, I’m loving this brown long sleeve, but the short sleeve version seems more appropriate for the heat.

• The Row Barn Tote - When everything gets sticky and hot this summer, the last thing I want is a heavy bag. I’ve resisted this but it’s starting to make sense to me. I like the mini, looks like it would also make a great evening summer bag.

When it comes to getting dressed and shopping, I’ve developed a rhythm, a pattern, or perhaps a formula more than anything else. It’s rooted in knowing my go-to brands, the silhouettes I instinctively gravitate toward, the seasonal pieces that catch my eye, and my intentional approach to shopping vintage.

Favorite Brands + aesthetic + seasonal piece + vintage (or second hand)

About a year ago, I wrote a lengthy essay on the fashion influences that have shaped me, but I’ve yet to find the courage to share it, as it’s a sensitive one. What I can say is that my mom played a huge role in shaping my taste in both clothes and music growing up. Over time, those early influences took root, and as an impressionable child, they’ve continued to inform how I approach fashion today.

Nostalgia is something we can all relate to. Take long, flowy cotton skirts, for example. I’d argue this is a widely beloved staple, one that feels as old as time, yet current all at once. For some, a cotton skirt can carry a sense of nostalgia and romanticism simply through its shape. For others, it may strike something more personal. Do they remind you of being a child, hiding under your mother’s skirt, wrapped in that sense of comfort? Or is the attraction for them as simple as appreciating their beauty and versatility, especially in the summer?

I think part of the reason so many people have a love-hate relationship with their clothes and with brands, and often feel lost, is because they buy based on how things look on others or what’s trending, rather than on what they mean and represent to them. It’s like trying to fit a circle into a square, a relationship based on superficiality that simply doesn’t work.

Stay In This Lane

We’re constantly being told what to buy, or what’s deemed “cool,” and as someone who’s a contributor in this space, I think it’s just as important to share how I got here.

I’ve been buying vintage since I was a teenager (I dive deeper into this in my more sentimental unreleased post). Vintage Donna Karan is one of my favorite designers to search for. Her pieces feel like discoveries, but also like ideology made tangible. Her suits were almost like armor for women in business. She reimagined the power suit, creating clothes that were both functional and sophisticated for women navigating those spaces. Nowadays, for me, slipping into a vintage Donna Karan leather jacket, or even knit, feels like stepping into a kind of empowered femininity.

Over the years, when shopping vintage, I gravitate toward Calvin Klein, Giorgio, Ann Taylor, Jil Sander, Donna’s junior line (DKNY), Barneys New York, and menswear tailoring like Charvet. I’m also drawn to occasional pieces from Prada or Gucci, but only when they feel aligned rather than nostalgic for nostalgia’s sake. Ralph Lauren Purple Label is another constant discovery point for me.

Part of the thrill of shopping (often forgotten) is the love and appreciation for a brand, and understanding whether you and it are a good fit. That’s where a meaningful relationship with your clothes begins to form. And it shows.

Elsa Peretti is someone I’ve admired and collected special pieces from for years. Her Bean, in particular, feels deeply significant to me, its inspiration rooted in the origin of life. When I first became curious about it, a salesperson at Tiffany’s shared that Elsa also designed it with the idea of “new beginnings” in mind, like planting a seed. That felt very aligned with what I had going on at the time, so wearing it feels like a constant reminder that I can begin again and again.

I bought my bone cuff in the fall of 2022 after coveting it for years. I’d admired it ever since I saw Margot Robbie wear the 18k version to the Met Gala in 2016, but it wasn’t until the Halston series was released in 2021 that my appreciation for Elsa and her pieces deepened. A couple of years later, it began trending heavily. Her designs have always been universally loved, but the tricky part about living in this generation is that everything gets amplified tenfold by the internet. Once everyone is wearing the same thing at the same time, it can start to feel a little less special.

It’s something I find myself grappling with when getting dressed. I don’t want to stop reaching for something that once meant so much to me just because it has become widely seen or endlessly circulated online.

In general, this is something I’ve struggled with for years in this industry. The key, I think, lies in remembering that even if everyone has the same thing, what matters is how you make it your own.

The two eras I’ve always been most drawn to in fashion are the ’90s and the ’70s. I’ve never felt comfortable wearing a lot of color, logos, or overly complicated silhouettes. The ’90s have always been a consistent reference point for me, shaped in part by my mom, as I mentioned earlier. But over the last decade, I’ve also found myself increasingly drawn to ’70s fashion, especially through suede. I love the ’90s for their minimalism in general, but if I’m looking for fun eclectic pieces, the ’70s are where I draw inspiration from.

An example of my “formula” at play. A simple outfit I often return to:

I love the way a vintage 501 looks on me, the wash, the buttery fabric, the silhouette, the history. It’s always the jean I return to most often. The right white button-down is everything to me, especially when it has a subtle twist like a knotted cufflink, a pleated bib, or simply a men’s tailored shirt. It’s those small details that make something simple feel unique, and ultimately say something about someone’s taste.

Whenever I feel conflicted about something, I try to sit with it for a few days. There have been times when this has backfired and I’ve missed out entirely. Other times, it’s saved me from veering too far off course.

One thing I know for sure is that learning to distinguish between buying something out of fear of missing out, and buying it because you genuinely can’t contain your desire for it is key to dressing for yourself.

Having a strong instinct when it comes to shopping goes without saying. And somewhat contrary to the idea of having a formula, I also dress instinctively, and I think we all should. When I say I have a formula, I mean I’m drawn to certain brands for their design and fabrics, and often mix them with a vintage item or two.

I’d be lying if I said I don’t feel the urge to browse the internet when a new season arrives, because I do. That’s usually when the “new season” bug bites, more often in the form of a bag or a shoe. That said, it’s also the moment I have to anchor myself and ask: do I love this because it’s new, or because it feels like me? Do I already have something in my closet that can scratch the itch?

New will always sound more exciting, but like any relationship, it’s the care and attention you give things over time that makes anything worthwhile. I think that same idea should apply to the pieces in your closet.

The best example I can give of this is my relationship with The Row. They often revisit the same silhouette in different leathers, or release something unexpected, like an outrageously priced plastic shoe that sparks conversation. In the end, it all comes down to the consumer’s judgment. Is this worth my money?

When outfit fatigue starts to creep in (because it does), I often return to drawing from movies, music, feelings, and memory. But as a visual person, my saved pins can also be a quick fix when everything else feels a bit foggy, though I try not to rely on it too often and instead exercise everything I mentioned before.

Mixing high and low is an art in and of itself. I get the most compliments and questions whenever I wear something vintage, and I love that feeling. It reinforces the idea that we’re all drawn to pieces that feel unique, things we can’t immediately place at first glance.

By now, you’ve probably realized that I’m someone to follow if we share a love for minimal, well-crafted pieces. Vintage ’90s and ‘70s finds, and a deep appreciation for historically important designers who created from a place of instinct, emotion, and often, nature.

Stay In This Lane

As the title suggests, this is a shout-out to some of the hardest-working pieces in my closet. Over the past six years, I’ve collected some really great sh%t. Things I genuinely love, wear on repeat, and would recommend again and again until you’re sick of hearing about them.

Acquired in 2023, this Toteme trench coat has been one of my best purchases. It’s lightweight, easy to dress up or down, and feels completely timeless. I loved it so much I ended up buying it in dark navy.

Although this exact style is from several seasons ago, there’s a newer version that’s been taking over the internet, and for good reason. It’s high on my wishlist, even though I clearly don’t need it, mainly because the color leans more toward a traditional trench. If you’re looking for a trench coat that will carry you through the seasons, Toteme no doubt has it.

Without hesitation, I can say the below are still some of the hardest-working pieces in my wardrobe. A little played out, but the ’90s bag will always have a special (and nostalgic) place in my heart, no matter the dupes. I’ve even been thinking about adding this brown color to my collection. What can I say? I’m somewhat of a creature of habit in this department.

I also noticed the Bare sandals were recently restocked, so if you’ve been considering a pair, I’d move quickly since they tend to sell out fast. I promise you won’t regret it, it’s one of those no brainer “must have” items in your closet. Just be sure to go up half a size, as they run narrow in the front.

A long time ago, I invested in these Toteme tank tops, and I’ve truly worn them to death. I’ve had mine for a little under five years and somehow they’re still going strong. I know spending over $100 on a ribbed tank sounds a bit outrageous, but they’re incredibly well made and versatile.

My favorite ways to style them are under a blazer, with jeans, or paired with a skirt in the summer. They feel more elevated than your average Hanes tank, and I can almost guarantee you’ll reach for them more often than not.

It goes without saying, but vintage 501’s are the workhorse of my closet. I’ve found my best pairs from @Jeaniusshop, Sadly, (for anyone not in L.A.) she recently closed her online store and has since moved on to private sales only.

If you’re looking to have a tailored and unique denim experience, this might be for you!

When I’m rushing to put together a dinner look I always reach for a blazer. It’s the quickest way to feel pulled together and confident. I find that single-breasted styles are especially flattering if you’re after that boyish, chic, laid-back silhouette. This Toteme blazer in particular dominates my closet.

To know me is to know that cashmere sweaters go without saying, but I’ll mention them anyway for those who are interested. I have a variety, but I often find myself reaching for the Toteme and The Row ones.

Toteme’s knitwear selection tends to rotate, with the exception of a few Garderob staples. The Row, on the other hand, is more consistent with its core pieces. I always recommend the Sibem sweater. There are certainly alternatives, but this is the one I reach for time and time again. I sized up and went with the M to be cozier, I’m also hoping to pick up the black turtleneck version this fall.

April is here, and you slowly start pulling from last year’s summer closet. A suede shirt, corduroy pants, and a fine cashmere knit tank create the feeling of easing into warmer weather, while still offering warmth through the fabrics on crisp spring days. Styled with a leather thong sandal and an oversized hobo bag, the look comes together for a casual, brisk afternoon lunch.

Finding a good pair of khaki trousers has been at the top of my priority list. From digging a bit, I found this pair from Citizens of Humanity.

I also had my eye on this pair from The Row, which look pretty perfect, but my size was sold out.

I ended up going with these Trouper pants by Re/Done instead.

Whenever I buy a new piece of clothing, I like to do a try-on so I can really see if it makes sense in my closet. Below I’m styling them with these Constance kitten heels by The Row. These Staud heels look very similar in the front, so good I’m almost tempted to grab a pair. I’m wearing an old cotton long sleeve, but this Róhe version is nearly identical. And I’ve accessorized with this Bourse bag, mine is in soft leather but the suede might be better.

So far, I’m loving the structured look, but I’m still feeling an itch for a true cargo, so I might end up ordering the Citizens of Humanity pair after all. They also come in this beautiful darker green color.

I’ve been dying for this Róhe bomber but then I remembered I have a husband who is willing to share his closet with me. His is a little closer to this. Bag is the large Y tote, it’s incredible and it goes with everything.

I often find myself wishing I had a pair of white jeans I could easily dress up or down, so I recently added these Burty Jeans to my closet via MyTheresa. They’re on their way to me and I can’t wait. They’re gonna be so perfect for spring/summer. They also seem to be flattering on everyone so fingers crossed!

In the same vein, I also picked up this luxury cotton T-shirt. I’ve never owned a designer tee before, but recently I’ve warmed up to the idea of having a well-made option for special occasions. I chose this one specifically for the collar and sleeve length, which give it a subtle vintage feel.

I’m not a regular Zara shopper. I used to be, back in my 20s, when entire paychecks seemed to disappear there. I still own a few pieces I can’t bring myself to part with for sentimental reasons. I’ve maybe browsed twice in the last five years, and even then, I kept one thing and returned the rest. Things always look so good on the models, but in person, the pieces can feel a bit disappointing. I’d rather invest in higher-quality items that will last or hold their resale value over time.

That said, I was scrolling Instagram and came across Leandra’s edit with Zara. My eyes immediately went straight to the mules she was wearing. I’m never impulsive this way but they seemed to check every box. I’ve always said my favorite fashion eras are the ’70s and ’90s, and these mules felt like a perfect crossover of both.

They’ve since sold out but I found this pair by Dries and they look phenomenal.

It’s 10:15 a.m. I’m making my way from the kitchen to the living room after setting down Louie’s bowl. He’s there now, eating, while I carry my laptop, the last surviving MUJI pen in this house, and my leather notebook to the couch.

I can’t believe I’ve had this notebook for over ten years—and to think I once bought it for school. For a couple of years now, it has quietly taken on a new life. It’s filled with Substack ideas, reminders, random word definitions, astrological notes about my sign, small anecdotes, song titles, and feelings… things I never imagined it would hold back then.

Isn’t it funny how life works that way? We often begin with one purpose, only to discover something richer unfolding along the way.

I like flipping through it from time to time. I often find inspiration there:

Wabi-sabi.
Wabi, which translates to less is more, and sabi, which suggests an attentive melancholy. Together, they describe an awareness of the transient nature of things—and a quiet appreciation for what carries the marks of time. A way of living that finds beauty in imperfection and accepts the natural cycle of growth and decay.

In its cracks, its worn edges, and the randomness of what I’ve filled it with, my notebook feels quietly wabi-sabi—a little imperfect, ever-changing, and full of unexpected beauty.

Just like the handmade teacup I bought on Etsy from this seller a couple months ago.
Its uneven rim reflects the hands that made it. The small irregularities are what make it beautiful.

Much like the wrinkled bedsheets on my bed, still waiting to be made this morning. Soft, creased from a night of deep rest.

I grab my phone and check on my Amazon order. Great news—the new Bialetti Moka pot arrives tomorrow. I can’t wait to make coffee in it.

I think of the Gemini espresso maker that’s been part of our kitchen for the past six years, and how we tragically lost one of its ceramic cups. I have no plans of getting rid of it, though. Brewing two cups at once has been tricky.

Lately, I’ve only been drinking Lavazza Inblu ground coffee. I found it at Eataly earlier this year.

Breakfast won’t be skipped in this house, and we like to eat in season.
This morning: Roma tomatoes on seeded sourdough, a light layer of cream cheese, drizzled with olive oil, finished with sea salt and black pepper.

I add to my to-do list: Hunt for a nice pepper mill.

As I flip through my notebook, I come across a quote:
“Comparison is the thief of joy.”

Note to self: Cultivate lasting joy.

My mind drifts back to this idea of finding beauty in imperfection, so I write:

- A worn leather bag that’s carried a life well lived.
- The wildflower growing between the cracks of the pavement I stepped on this morning reminds me that I, too, can grow in the most unexpected places.
-The wrinkles forming around mine and Ryan’s eyes, each one a small record of years of joy and laughter.

The list goes on.

The wine bottle sitting on my entryway table, next to the mail, catches my eye. It reminds me of our meal at Baby Bistro last week—the Koshihikari rice with uni was the highlight. In last week’s letter, I wrote about a wine that stayed on my mind. I’d been searching for it ever since, so you can imagine my delight when I saw it on the menu, right there in plain sight.

Before I know it, the day is almost done. Too tired to make dinner so I order takeout and put on one of my all-time favorites, Someone Like You (2001).

Hmm what do you know? Ashley Judd is also eating takeout. We’re both eating Chinese, except I’m on the floor and she’s sitting next to Hugh Jackman. Her “outfit” is perfect. The place I ordered from (Genghis Cohen) isn’t half bad either. Almost makes the puffy face tomorrow worth it.

But that’s tomorrow’s problem.

Let’s see… what can I update you on?

For starters, I’ve been in a bit of a weird funk lately, so you can blame that for my absence on Substack. That said, I have found some joy this month in a handful of things:

• One of many highlights: I borrowed a large Park Tote from Vivrelle, which was both exciting and, honestly, kind of life changing. I’ve been calling it a “hack” because, let’s be honest, borrowing a designer bag each month feels like a fashion girl’s dream. The only downside is that you have to move fast/add them to your wishlist to keep tabs on them since pieces get snatched up quickly. My pick is currently on its way back to Vivrelle, so I’d suggest keeping an eye out and hearting it if you’re interested in borrowing it too. It’s such a great bag. It never left my side this month, even for the smallest errands. I also think it would make an amazing baby or travel bag.

• Westman Atelier just launched a Hydrobalm Tinted Lipstick, and it does exactly what it promises. It hydrates your lips while adding a sheer, yet buildable, splash of color. I was lucky enough to receive Café Crème, Bob (named after Gucci Westman’s dog), and Soda. I love all of them so much that I’m already thinking about picking up Onyx.

• Paid a visit to Scout. Fell in love with this Giorgio tee but decided to get something else instead.

• I know we’re unlikely to see rain anytime soon, but I’m still searching for the perfect umbrella holder…

• I’ve been burning incense to set the mood. It takes me back to when I was little and my grandma would sage our house.

• I love many things from Christofle, especially if they’re vintage. I’ve been on the hunt for a special picture frame to add to my collection, and I recently came across this stunning one on Etsy. Now all that’s missing is the perfect photo to go inside.

• I also came across two stunning vintage Giorgio Armani scarves, one with fringe and one in cashmere. A Jil Sander cotton trench, and a Ralph Lauren collarless linen jacket. Consider this your sign to start your vintage hunt.

• I’ve been blown away by this deodorant from Agent Nateur in Ambroxan Cloud.

  Stay In This Lane

• Not new, but this Nautilus Knife from Sophie Buhai that I got almost three years ago still brings me so much joy. It makes something as mundane as opening the mail a better experience.

• I stopped by RLT in Montecito and left with a new vintage pair of jeans and their boyfriend tee. I love it even more than the baby tee!

• I have a great collection of vintage Levi’s, and my favorite belt to pair them with is the classic one from The Row. I own it in gold with black and brown with silver (I took it from the men’s section), and I finally picked it up in the classic black with silver.

• I’m unintentionally expanding my lounge/lingerie collection. I’ve recently added a few pieces to my already extended collection of Kye Intimates. I restocked on the Mies, and recline brief. Picked up the recline pants, cami, and French sleeve (below).

• Last Saturday we had breakfast at Courage Bagels. My go-to is always tomato and cream cheese on a burnt everything bagel, and, if available, the cave cheddar on sesame. I’ll usually order an orange juice and an iced cappuccino if the day calls for it, otherwise hot, plus a crunchy almond jar to go.

• Not pictured but I finally got my beige Tove trousers and black Row slacks tailored. I’ve had them for over three years and had never worn them out. Big mistake, HUGE. I called The Row store on Melrose and they told me to go to Anoosh off on La Cienega.

• I was in Pasadena this week, and although it was a quick visit, I always make time to drive by the Father of the Bride house and pick up a sandwich from Roma Market.

• I was also in Malibu, and if ever I’m in the area, I always make a pit stop at Canyon Gourmet and take the scenic route. They were out of eggs, but I managed to pick up a fresh country loaf, berries, passion fruit, and homemade raspberry jam.

• I haven’t finished Wuthering Heights yet, so until I do, I’m not letting myself buy anything else, but I’m really eyeing Strangers. It’s all over my feed, and now Gwyneth has been cast. I need to read it soon.

• Earlier this month we drove up the Santa Ynes Mountains and it was pure magic. I believe we took the Gibraltar Road Scenic Drive.

• Matcha is a staple in this house, but I recently leveled up the dosage—4 to 6 grams with water at 175° for the perfect frothy, almost gel-like consistency. Thanks TikTok

• Still Here NY released new pieces today, and I picked up the Host Pant in Stone along with the slacks in khaki.

• I tried possibly the most unique wine I’ve ever had at Little Fish on Melrose, and now I’m on a mission to find the last bottle. It had the most delicious fennel notes. They really carry some of the best wines and nail the pairings.

• Rōz launched its new campaign in collaboration with Lily Collins, and we celebrated at Du-Par’s with fries, milkshakes, and custom ketchup bottles and all. I’m a sucker for nostalgia and this hit right on the nose.

• Our new place has strong château influences, so I’m feeling very drawn to English country house interiors. I’d love to incorporate some of that into our space this year. I’m gathering inspiration from the one and only.

• I’ve been scrolling endlessly on 1stDibs lately, more than usual. It’s both soothing and anxiety-inducing, depending on the day.

• I finally had breakfast at Wildes. I’ve been a couple of times for dinner, but breakfast is a whole other vibe. Highly recommend. They make a great cortado.

• I’ve been taking lots of baths lately. I’m really loving Susanne Kaufmann’s Mallow Blossom Bath paired with Santa Maria Novella’s Melograno bath salts, with a Diptyque Baies candle burning in the corner and Van Morrison playing on my stereo.

• Jasmine is one of my favorite scents in the world, possibly because it feels so nostalgic—it’s also my mom’s favorite scent and flower. I was gifted two bouquets filled with jasmine, and even if the weather says otherwise, it already feels like spring.

• Not pictured but we’ve been touching grass a lot lately, and I mean that literally. It feels so good to ground yourself and quite literally just hang.

I browsed The Row’s Spring collection the day it was released and, to be completely frank, I was a bit underwhelmed at first, aside from a few pieces I’ll share more about below. Last year’s collection was all the rage. There was so much to choose from, and new silhouettes and colorswere introduced that came with plenty of buzz. This season, it feels like they’ve chosen to lay low and reinforce what already works, honing in on a few classics from past seasons. In a way, that restraint feels very on brand and I’m very much on board.

For starters, they brought back my beloved Estelle bag from the Spring 2024 collection. I happened to snag it in brown that year and didn’t hear much about it until the following season. But that’s what tends to happen with The Row. The slow burn is part of the seduction. Once you catch its fire, it consumes you. The Estelle is one of those pieces that simmered quietly. It seems they noticed, releasing limited runs in black and white (the white available via Vestiaire) last year, perhaps to let the demand build. This season, they have leaned heavily into the black and introduced a new burnt cream shade as well. Both colors are also available in oversized versions.

Personally, the oversized version (here’s the black) is not for me. The material feels a bit too precious, and I worry that carrying too much weight would compromise it quickly.

Stay In This Lane

On the other hand, as much as I tried to resist, I bought the damn thing in black via MyTheresa. I simply couldn’t help myself. I haven’t been able to put the brown one down, and it felt justified to have the same shape in another color. And while I was already rolling down that hill, I managed to snag the very sought-after Idaho in black from The Row’s site after spotting it back in stock (available here via The Webster). I debated it for a couple of hours before finally pulling the trigger. Honestly, I was shocked it was still available given how high the demand has been.

When it was first released, I wasn’t particularly drawn to the shape or the fabric. But lately, I’ve been craving a canvas bag for very casual outings, and this one kept coming to mind. It feels like the perfect piece to look put together while still getting things done without worrying about scuffs or getting caught in the rain. I’ve already worn it around town for errands, to the grocery store, and to an early diner dinner. It fits a ton and weighs nothing—and that’s always a win in my book.

Now that their Spring collection has dropped across other retailers, including MyTheresa, Fwrd, Moda Operandi, Net-a-Porter, and the like, and after far too many hours of endless browsing, my feelings feel validated. I’m seeing so many of their classics reissued in different colors, and I love to see it.

The Combo slides are a closet staple, I have them in black smooth leather (seen above), they now come in this beautiful cream color, velvet black, and red. The Nuance bag has been burning a hole in my wishlist, I want it so bad but I keep putting it off for some odd reason. It now comes with sleeker stitching, less noticeable but I’m still very much in love with the original. A new bag shape was introduced and it has my attention. It’s the little sister to the Terrasse, I love how minimal it is and it’s available for preorder here. I can’t wait to see the IG photos roll out from everyone who grabbed one. I’m also really into this shade in the mini park tote.

Other items in new versions worth mentioning are the City Flip Flop and the Soft Loafers. I’m loving the contrast in colors on the City Flops. I wore my black pair nonstop last year and still can’t get enough (fully restocked here). The Soft Loafers are a cult classic for a reason, and I love that they’re giving the people even more color options in this leather.

I recently checked the Maira sweater off my wishlist. Otherwise, my hands would be all over this new Nitha sweater. I did, however, add this new Floris long sleeve to that same wishlist. At first glance, it feels like an unnecessary splurge, but once you look closely, you notice the cut and the perfect dropped shoulder, which give this long sleeve a vintage feel.

And do I even need to say anything about their pants? I’m a big fan of the Carly in corduroy but this new pair looks really good, and there’s also a denim version.

Last but certainly not least, I’m very into this beautiful cashmere set.

It still feels surreal to say that.

After seven years of living in our very first home, Ryan and I finally found a place to call our own and moved in three weeks ago. Saying goodbye to our first apartment together was bittersweet. On one hand, we were more than ready for this next chapter; on the other, it was sad to leave the place where we built our life together—where we laughed endlessly, made love, made war, and truly grew up side by side. But if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that home is wherever you make it, and our new place is already starting to feel like exactly that. I can’t wait to create so many more memories here!

Ry and I have been slowly getting the house in shape now that we’re back from a very short but sweet trip to Vegas. Only the Eagles and family time could convince us to hop on a road trip just four days after moving, and I must say it was absolutely worth it.

Watching the Eagles perform live at the Sphere was pure magic. If there was ever a concert that felt very me, it was this one. The montages of Los Angeles, highlighting the Sunset Strip and other iconic institutions felt like a love letter to the city and a reminder of why LA is worth living in. I wish I could go back and embarrassingly sing my heart out all over again. If you can find tickets, GO.

It was a quick trip, but we managed to squeeze in a little shopping. I stopped by Saint Laurent to take a peek at a bag I’ve had my eye on for a while. Sadly, it was even more beautiful in person—perfectly slouchy, buttery soft—and even sadder, I had to pass. We had one thing on our minds, and that was a Rimowa!

As you might imagine, I was living (and partially still am) out of boxes, so I packed ultra light and kept things very basic, relying on whatever I could manage to find.

Cipriani in Vegas is always a must, so we made a last-minute reservation. The Toteme selection at MyTheresa right now is nuts! Starting with their denim, their jeans are flattering on everyone. I personally love the low-rise version, but they also come in a higher-rise option and in this shade. There’s also a great selection of elevated basics, like this black cardigan and white long-sleeve, both of which I own and often reach for as my go-to “nicer basics.” The boots are amazing too and come in both chocolate brown and black. And if I were in the market for a trench coat from them, this and this are what I’d be very tempted by. Everything pictured below feels worth it to me, but if I can convince you to purchase just one thing from this list, it would be the scarf. I bought mine in 2024, and it’s served me so well that I picked it up again in beige this past winter.

On to dressier items. Magda Butrym is the queen of appliqués. Just take a look at this incredible pair of heels, perhaps paired with this ivory clutch from Savette. I’ve always had a soft spot for shoes. While I’m usually drawn to clean silhouettes, I love a surprise element, like the appliqué pair mentioned a second ago or this crochet style, also from Magda Butrym. Having those unexpected, special pieces in your closet can actually make getting dressed for an event easier.

Max Mara does amazing outerwear (more on outerwear below), and this silhouette is as classic as it gets. If you’re looking to branch out a bit in the outerwear department, this cashmere coat from Aflalo seems like the perfect place to start. While browsing the Aflalo website, I couldn’t help but notice this stunning silk dress, which also comes in black, I wrote a lengthy post on the importance of owning a black evening dress not too long ago btw, you never know when it will come in handy! I’ve also heard amazing things about their jeans and cashmere, I picked up this sweater back in December, and I can’t believe there are still a few left! Anna posted it first and It’s been my obsession since, so soft.

Triangle cashmere scarves were all over my feed last year, I wasn’t crazy about them when I first saw them but they’ve grown on me immensely. If you didn’t get your hands on one, this might be your chance to score this one at a great price. I also really love this satin option—a black silk (or satin) scarf is a true wardrobe staple and they come in handy for evening affairs. Another essential for any closet is a poncho or cape. I’ve been on the hunt for one all winter, and this one seems to fit the bill perfectly.

Back to outerwear, suede coats are gorgeous but can feel a bit intimidating, both in price and care. I personally only buy them on sale and in darker colors to avoid a headache. Purchasing any leather item can feel like a big splurge, so I tend to go for clean, minimal silhouettes, like this one from Nour Hammour, which I know won’t go out of style anytime soon

I love snagging a great deal, but what I enjoy even more is curating a wardrobe that will work for years to come. Hopefully, you’ll find a piece or two in this list to add to your own curated collection.

If you’ve ever driven down Third Street past The Grove, chances are you’ve seen this place a thousand times. You may have even picked up a pair of vintage denim or had a piece altered. But did you know they recently launched one of the best T-shirts out there?

The T-shirt

The T-shirt In question is called the Topanga—an ode to Topanga Canyon’s easygoing and laid-back nature. Inspired by T-shirt styles from the 1940s through the 1970s, it captures the distinct character of each era to create what might just be the perfect tee. According to Stephan Brovko, owner of Shop Denim Revival, the Topanga combines the best elements of three standout vintage shirts: the collar of a 1940s tee, the fabric of a 1950s shirt, and the sleeveless proportions of a 1960s style, resulting in a thoughtfully modified fit that brings them all together.

The story behind it

Topanga Canyon is where Stephan, the creator of this tee, found his first pair of selvedge Levi’s (redlines) and where his vintage journey truly began. “I found a fella selling random junk on the side of the road, and he happened to have a pair of redlines. They were five bucks. I offered three, and the rest is history,” Stephan tells me with a laugh.

“The fabric for the shirts was found by my good friend Chole Star, who kinda kept it a secret for a while, and finally passed it down to me cause he knew I wanted to start making clothing, specifically shirts. It’s the closest thing we have found that resembles a true worn in soft vintage shirt. It’s perfectly soft while not being completely see through and sheer. It’s pre washed, preshrunk, so honestly it shouldn’t shrink anymore. If anything only by 3%.”

Sizing

Stephan recommends choosing your true size for a perfect waistline that sits just above where your belt shows. If you prefer a slight tuck, sizing up does the trick. “It’s the perfect LA T-shirt,” Stephan says. “No tight constriction in the pits or arms, or through the body like most women’s T-shirts, but still super flattering.”

The perfect marriage

But wait, there’s more to this wonderful endeavor. Denim Revival is thoughtfully composed of two parts that work in perfect harmony. When you first step inside, you’re greeted by Shop Denim Revival, the retail front run by Stephan, featuring a carefully curated selection of vintage jackets, collectible graphic T-shirts, their newest addition—The Topanga shirts (@ made.revival)—and an impressive wall of vintage denim, neatly folded and organized by size. Stephan knows his inventory like the back of his hand and can instantly tell you exactly which size and silhouette will fit you best.

Tucked just beyond the retail space is the Denim Revival Alteration Shop, a long-standing repair studio with over 20 years of experience in custom denim repairs and alterations, run by the incredibly talented Anahit “Anna” and her team. Together, the two sides form the perfect marriage of style and craftsmanship. “If you need anything tweaked or altered on your jeans, we can handle it all in-house,” Stephan says.

Selling out + the exclusive

The Topanga Tee officially launched in October of last year. “We quietly started selling them just in store around August to see if people would like them, and then after selling out with out any marketing in store, we launched a site in October and sold out again! Now finally released in black and grey, with long sleeve coming to the site soon, as well as other projects already in the works.” Stephan says. “It’s been really amazing to see people genuinely like the product, and it’s cool to see an idea blossom into something more”.

My favorite drive every summer before the fires was down the canyon in search of lush green valleys and salty air. We’d always make a pit stop at Canyon Gourmet for a vanilla soft serve and sit outside on their bench. My California heart can’t wait to wear my 501s and Topanga tee year round. What about you?

The timeless allure of a simple black evening gown lies in its effortless versatility and quiet sophistication. This 1994 Calvin Klein silk gown is a perfect embodiment of that—three decades later, its silhouette remains as striking and modern as ever. Another flawless example of this enduring elegance is this Tom Ford Cowl-neck gown.

This 1990s Céline gown appears simple at first glance, but the draped open back lends it a quietly seductive edge—sexy without ever revealing too much. In contrast, this Oscar de la Renta gown feels timeless and sophisticated, the kind of elegance that never tries too hard. And then there’s Richard Tyler, long known for his undeniably sexy designs; this plunging vintage number delivers exactly that—sensual without ever compromising on glamour.

No one masters corseted draping and romantic yet impeccably structured silhouettes quite like Vivienne Westwood. Here’s a current satin gown I’m absolutely gawking over.

But this one from the 2000s collection might be my favorite yet.

For someone who planned poorly, I think I did pretty well. I wore a very old Norma Kamali 90s-adjacent gown that I’ve had in my closet for three years. It’s still available in limited sizes here. I accessorized with The Row’s Cecily tote, a bag with a story to tell. Sadly, she’s sold out everywhere, but if you’re on the hunt for something similar, I really like the brown mini version. For shoes, I went with my trusty Bare Sandals, and because it was freezing in Orange County, I wore my dependable Wolford tights under. For finishing touches, I added a pair of diamond studs similar to these Dorsey ones, my timepiece, and an evening silk and cashmere shawl that kept me warm all night (I highly suggest investing in one, they come in handy for winter weddings!).

For the record, I bought this dress on a whim three years ago, at the same time I picked up a Rodarte gown for a wedding. I ended up wearing the Rodarte that day but kept this one just in case another occasion came up. It has served me well, but if another event ever calls for it, I’d probably invest in something vintage from this list instead.

Like this Bottega Veneta Silk Evening Gown with a sultry back, or something along the lines of this Ralph Lauren Purple Label halter neck (it just needs a little steam). Or a super classic Chloé V-neck Gown. Or perhaps something like this Tom Ford square-neck gown with a very sexy back.

After cooking the whole feast last year, I happily traded my apron for a seat at Sunset Tower with my husband’s family this Thanksgiving. It was fab. I was having such a good time I completely forgot to grab a proper outfit photo, but I did manage to snag an awkward little fit check and posted it here. The boots are vintage Gucci (Tom Ford era) exact ones here, the trench is a Net-A-Porter steal, and underneath (though you couldn’t really see it) I wore a Toteme cotton-satin maxi skirt with a thin ribbed cashmere Prada V-neck I scored on The RealReal (exact one here).

Technically this package landed on my doorstep at the beginning of November, and it’s only now making its debut on Substack. I’m loving the silver MyTheresa box—but more importantly, I’m obsessed with this tassel loafer that’s been on my wishlist forever. For the record, I’ve mentioned this on Instagram before, but I went to private school and wore loafers daily… and honestly, it scarred me. Happy to report I’m one step closer to healing the loafer-related PTSD in these.

Sakara did a limited collaboration with Doen, and I was lucky enough to shoot content for it! The Holloway Pouch is something I’d genuinely buy on my own and will treasure for years. I can’t speak on the supplements just yet, but I’m sure they’ll come in handy as we head into peak holiday chaos. You might want to grab yours…

I’m no stranger to the Neutra VDL House, but I’d never seen the rooftop reflecting pool actually filled. They only do it for special installations or events, so we’d never caught it in all its glory until this last visit. I also happened to snag a baseball cap on my way out, and it’s easily my new favorite in the collection.

A now-infamous diner just opened in my childhood (and current) neighborhood, and it’s stirred up some feelings I’d been keeping tucked away, so I need to get them off my chest. While I’m thrilled that Larchmont has gained so many amazing spots over the past few years, I miss the old favorites I grew up with. I miss the simplicity of grabbing toiletries at Rite Aid (now closed) or enjoying a coconut ice cream with my mom at Thrifties on our way out. I miss picking up a magazine with my coffee at Above the Fold (also recently closed). I still remember my first date with my high school crush at Baskin Robbins like it was yesterday. I miss reading a book at Le Petit Greek right before the dinner rush while eating Spanakopita and people-watching. I miss the old owner of Larchmont Pizzeria. I miss when The Bungalow used to be the spot and the juicery still existed a few doors down. I miss when Larchmont wasn’t this “cool”, it was just charming, thriving on a tight-knit, loving community.

This might sound silly coming from someone who shares her life online constantly, but I have a love/hate relationship with social media. On one hand, I know it opens so many doors for businesses and people alike, and I love discovering new spots and ideas online myself. On the other hand, I hate it when things get over-saturated and everyone rushes to try the same thing at once—like Max & Helen’s, for example. I went on opening night because I live in the neighborhood and it was still under the radar, no crazy line yet. Now? You can’t even find parking to go to the bank. Same thing happened when Levain opened in 2023.

I promise I’m not a hater, nor do I fear change. I just wish there were a way for things to feel balanced, not so over the top. I’m probably adding to the hype by saying the food is actually great (I still believe it’s the best thing that’s happened to the neighborhood in a long time), and I can’t wait for the frenzy to die down so it can earn its place as a neighborhood institution—like the Beauty Store, Larchmont Wine & Cheese, and Chevalier Books—all of which are thankfully still standing. No matter what changes come to the neighborhood, my hope is that some of that old-school magic always sticks around.

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest (hope I didn’t offend anyone in the process), let’s move on to the lippies I’m currently loving from Mary Phillips. I currently own Overdrive, a sheer cool taupe brown, and First Base, a sheer cool mauve. They glide on smoothly and are the perfect size to keep in any bag.

In other news, my point-and-shoot finally gave out after four years. I had an Olympus Stylus Epic Zoom 80, and although I really loved how the pictures turned out, someone recently told me they tend to give out easily. If you have a better recommendation for a point-and-shoot, send it my way! I’ll leave you with a self-portrait; I’m still on the journey of trying to master the art of the air-dry.

I’m in the market for a “grown up” bag—something durable, luxurious, and timeless that can also fit a laptop. I’ve had my eye on the Margaux 15 for five years, but the price always felt a bit intimidating and I never quite felt ready to take the plunge. Eventually I waited so long that, once it went viral, my dream color disappeared. So when I came across the Marlo tote this season in that soft, beautiful brown leather, it immediately caught my attention. The 14 looks like the perfect in-between size for both travel and everyday life. I’m in love with its minimalistic design free of hardware, which makes styling the bag easier, and the straps are also roomy enough to sit comfortably over a thick coat. It also comes in a black pebbled leather, which is just as gorgeous and at a better price point but I think the brown will be the one that sells out.

While we’re on the topic of bags, the Lilou is another piece that has been on my wishlist for quite some time. It’s less “sought after” and I couldn’t love that more. The woven leather is absolutely gorgeous and adds a subtle, beautiful touch of interest to any outfit. Sadly, I’ve also fallen for the Nuance shoulder bag, which has its own quiet charm. I love the delicate stitch detail along the perimeter and the cashmere lining is a plus (I saw it in store earlier this year). Both are high on the wishlist, and if I were to finally pull the trigger on either one, I’m thinking of pairing it with other wishlist items like this cinched speckled cashmere sweater or perhaps the loose fit version from the men’s section, these low-rise denim (also love them in this shade), and this sharp Toteme boot.

Although a leather jacket is a constant in my wardrobe, I had never been truly satisfied with one until I came across this jacket earlier this year. There is almost always something missing, whether the fit is slightly off or the leather doesn’t feel quite right, but this one looks perfect in every way. You really do get what you pay for, and this feels like a piece that will never go out of style and will only get better with time and wear. My friend Anna wore it on her recent travels, and it only reinforced my belief that this silhouette is everything. In a perfect world, I would also snag the matching skirt too!

A very good scarf can elevate your outfit and serve so many purposes. When I want to add a pop of color during colder months I usually do it with a pop of red but transparently, this blue scarf from Brunello Cucinelli has been on my mind lately and I ran to find something similar after I saw the pic below.

And so has this cashmere one from The Row because it looks so luxe and cozy. If you can’t already tell, I have a soft spot for their bags too. The suede Devon mini clutch, which also comes in lamb leather, recently caught my eye. The size feels incredibly versatile, working as an evening clutch and, if I’m feeling a little adventurous, even as an elevated makeup pouch. What I’ve learned over the years is to invest in elevated staples, because those are the pieces you reach for first when unexpected moments arise. I could easily pair this clutch with an evening gown for years to come.

This year my two most-worn everyday shoes were my khaki brown Owen sneakers, and my taupe Hugo suede mules from The Row. I definitely don’t need more “easy” shoes, but I would like these Toteme sneakers and these pebbled Hudson mules in these darker colors as an upgrade, backup, or replacement (whatever you want to call it) for the pairs I already love. They’re just so easy to throw on and feel like nicer elevated casual shoes, but truth be told, what I really should be focusing on purchasing is a well-crafted elevated boot like this one. I’ve seen so many of my friends wearing them, and they look incredible with dressed-down denim while still feeling elegant the moment you add a coat. I saw that they also now come in suede but I’m patiently waiting for my size in the short version to come back in stock.

I’m currently also fawning over dressier items, I own this pair of grey trousers, and every time I wear them I feel the urge to add more pairs in the same shape. They can go from dressy to casual in an instant. Not long ago I wore them with white sneakers and wrote about it here. I’ve been meaning to get the matching wool blazer to complete the set, but I’m thinking I might hold off on that and go for this tweed pair instead, or for these black wool trousers that look insanely perfect. I’ve also been going back and forth on these strappy black leather pumps that looks so timeless and elegant, the only thing holding me back is that there are so many other items on this list that I’d get more wear out of. Like this classic black cashmere button down polo and this white cotton sweatshirt. The styling possibilities are endless.

You’re probably tired of hearing people talk about the Gala pants, and I get it. But the buzz is real. My pair and I are coming up on our fifth anniversary, and they still feel as good as new, if not better. There’s no need to buy a back-up anytime soon (even though I’ve worn them to death), that said, I can definitely see a virgin wool version making its way into my closet in the near future. I love them so much and wear them constantly, it only makes sense to diversify within the fabric family. And speaking of wool, I’m also looking for a black long-sleeve version as a sleek, elevated basic to layer under heavier coats, like this shearling jacket from Toteme. I’ve also been eyeing their trench. Toteme know how to make a great trench and a great coat!

Although I’m still far from perfecting my Mom’s holiday seasoning, both the flavors she crafted and the magic she infused, over the years I’ve begun to find my own rhythm for how I like Christmas to unfold.

The Tree

Four years ago, we started a tradition of buying our Christmas tree from our local Larchmont neighborhood tree lot (which opens for the season on Thursday, November 27, at 9 AM).

I almost always go for the Charlie Brown tree—I’ve forever loved its shape and the nostalgia it carries. The whole process becomes a memory in itself, from picking it out, to watching it get tied to the roof of our car, to seeing my husband struggle as he hauls it up our narrow stairs. I’ll continue to cherish those simple moments that lead to decorating the tree and welcoming the holidays into our home. And of course, nothing beats the beautiful pine scent that infuses every corner of our home!

Gifts

When it comes to holiday gifting, I’m very intentional. One year, I gifted a friend a set of four vintage Libbey Zig Zag martini glasses that matched mine as an ode to our shared love of dirty martinis. Another year, I carefully selected vintage wicker baskets and filled them with panettone, a bottle of wine, and a handwritten note—wrapping each with a silk ribbon and hand-delivering them to my people. I made cinnamon rolls last year and shared a basket with my downstair neighbors. No thoughtless gift, ever.

Earlier this year, I designed custom stationery for myself after stumbling upon an old personalized card from my husband’s college years. I suspect his was created by my mother-in-law—the queen of stationery with a knack for personalizing and engraving initials into keepsakes. She used to have her stationery made at Francis Orr in Beverly Hills, which is no longer in operation. As a newbie, I designed mine through Papier with the ultimate goal of graduating to Tiffany & Co. Back in high school, my first boyfriend and I used to write each other love letters, and I would spritz them with my signature scent. Perhaps this year, loved ones will receive my scented stationery as an extra special touch.

One Christmas, my husband surprised me with a pair of satin Saint Laurent ankle-strap pumps, which I treasure and save to wear for every holiday occasion.
