I had the good fortune to room with a friend after my divorce. I lived in her home where she and her late husband raised a beautiful family.

Her late husband had a cat named Odie. Still present, when I moved in. I wasn’t much of a cat person. He and I both kind of stayed in our own corners. As far as cats go. He was very respectful.

One of the funniest things he would do is he would look into blank space, not at a corner or a wall where a mouse may be scrambling, staring into space, in the middle of the room, as if he was looking at someone and communicating with him, I often joke that it was my friends husband.

As Odie and I became housemates, we made a non verbal pact, you live your life and I’ll live mine. Until one day I was sick with the flu. Sweet Odie made his way into my bedroom, hopped on my bed and nestled next to me. I kind of fell in love with him that day.

As the winds of change blow through our lives it became time for me to move on. The above picture is him in front of my car on move day. Glad I took the picture for posterity….

So love, what can you tell me about Odie?

Cats are a gift just as all animals are. Companions, kind and loving. You being more of a dog person you now say, “I’ve made peace with cats.” We see them all as beautiful universal creatures sent to make your life better.

As far as Odie himself, he saw your heart. He saw your love. He saw your personality. He respected your space and showed up when you needed him.

You my sweetness are watching love in its purest form. Yes, keep savoring the animals and the love that they have. We sure do!

When we entered our vacation condo and was unpacking he shouted for me to come. A little concerned I scurried into the living room. My darling boy was gazing out of the sliding glass door at the condo across the street. It was several stories high illuminated at every single unit. “Look Mom, how pretty!”

I smiled and acknowledged it for his sake. To me it was another building, to him it was beauty.

Sometimes as adults we lose the wonder of life. Like when a child blows a dandelion and looks at us in glee. Children do this naturally. Where did wonder go?

I suggest we try to find a way to recapture it. I know our days are filled with distractions, obligations all the trials of adult hood. However, the wonder is still there….

On Buttercup, we are delighted you’re remembering wonder. Yes, it’s everywhere all day. We try to reach you and everyone with little pockets of magic. Sadly, most just see it and move on, greedy of the next thing to do. How many times Darling Dawn have you found money on the ground. It’s almost a joke with your friends. You’ve found hundred dollar bills, 20’s, stack of 10”s and of course all the coins. Mountains of coins. Isn’t that WONDERFUL?!

I relocated to Florida a couple of years ago. Excited to start my dream job that would close out my career. I left a strong friend base of about 70 adult singles and family that that supported me.

Since I have s sense of adventure, or rather because Source had a bigger vision for me, I moved away from all of that. I remember driving down I-75 crying over leaving Atlanta while excited about what was ahead.

After 4 weeks I was dismissed from my job. That began a spiral of depression (or compression, meaning I went inward) and sickness.

I thought I had a brain tumor. Without insurance I didn’t have resources to get my mind eased. Finally, I did get insured and diagnosed with migraines without a headache…who knew… and got better.

During those lonely days, I would go to the beach every evening and watch the sunset and cry, yes lots of crying in this post.

The drive home ws creepy at best. Florida streets lights were dim and it was often hard to see the lines in the road. Darkness, lonely, unsure of a future. In the midst of this I found Source on a more intimate level and it pulled me out. I can happily say 3 years later I’m able to look at that time objectively

It was a warm night in Bali. I’d just arrived in the city of Ubud and my driver asked me if I wanted to go to a native dance performance later? I said sure.

When he arrived and said “let’s go”, I looked around and asked “where is the car?” He looked surprised and said “oh we’re gonna ride my scooter.” I just started laughing and he said “you don’t ride scooters where you live?” I imagined me perched a scooter on the busy Atlanta interstate and I just said “no”!

For content, if you’ve never visited Indonesia, scooters are a common ride, even for families. You’ll see mom, dad and maybe three kids perched on a scooter zipping down the road. The drivers of these scooters seem to innately know where to place themselves. Watching the hundreds of them flow down the street is like watching a stream. Moving around barriers with smoothness and ease.

I hopped on the back of his scooter. He cranked up and we were zooming through the town of Ubud. I remember looking up and the stars were glistening against the dark sky. We were gliding up and down the hills and I just started laughing in delight at the freedom I felt. The bubble of pure joy in my heart that rose like a sea. My hair blowing behind me and the absolute sense of no restrictions and floating in the air.

Our attachment to things in life is always creates a struggle. I have pages and pages of journals that I’ve written times when I pour out my heart, books that I have written and I think it’s time for me to dump them. It feels hard because it feels like a part of me, but I also feel like that’s a part of me that doesn’t exist anymore. I realized today that the only way to really let go of anything is to have faith that there’s something beyond it.
