The rich young ruler went away speechless with sorrow. He had no confusion about what Jesus Christ had told him, no doubt about what it meant, and it produced a sadness beyond words.

Have you ever been in this place of speechless sadness? Has God’s word come to you about something you’re very rich in and told you to “sell everything you have” (Luke 18:22)? Perhaps you are rich in your temperament or in your personal relationships of heart and mind. Perhaps God has told you to give them up, and you haven’t done it. If so, you’ve often been speechless with sorrow. The Lord won’t plead with you, but every time he meets you on that point, he will repeat, “If you want to follow me, these are the conditions.”

“Sell everything you have.” Strip yourself of everything that might be considered a possession, until you stand before God as a mere conscious being, and then offer yourself. This is where the battle is fought: in the domain of the will before God.

Are you more devoted to your idea of what Jesus wants than to Jesus himself? Then you are likely to hear him say something to you that will produce sorrow. What Jesus says is hard, but to those who have his disposition inside them, it’s easy. Beware of allowing anything to soften the hard things Jesus says.

You can be so rich in the consciousness that you are somebody that you will never be a disciple of Jesus. Or you can be so rich in the consciousness that you are nobody, so convinced of your poverty, that you’ll never be a disciple. Are you willing to give up the idea that you have nothing to give up? If not, you are bound to be discouraged. Discouragement is disenchanted self-love, and self-love may be love of your devotion to Jesus.

I am speechless from sadness right now from the major life changes that are taking place in my life. I feel abandon as far as the eye can see and no one is within sight. I pray that this period in my life fades quickly and I arrive to the new destination my Heavenly Father has in store for me. I know he is here, even though I have a hardened heart and I cant see him, I know he is real. He will never forsake me and he will never leave me as long as I believe, and even when I loose my way I know he will be right here waiting for my return. He’s always here.

This morning I woke up craving the word of God and needing his comfort. Something my husband and I do is read the devotional each day whether it’s together or separate of Oswalds Utmost for his highest. It’s like the book was written for us.

Instead of spewing venom on your loved ones and passers by sit in the silence and be speechless in your sadness, because sometimes the sadness is a part of the journey. My husbands favorite quote he reminds me of often is “Not everything needs to be said” an he’s right. Not everything needs to be said and sometimes the best thing for us all is to sit in silence till we can sit in the presence of the lord again.

I’m sure you remember and is often a rhyme a lot of children say in Elementary School, it goes “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me” I think we teach our children this rhyme because we want to all be tough and not let others hurt us with their pain, projecting in their words…… But the reality of it is….. Sticks and stones do break us and so do the words that are so harmfully shared when we are in pain. I feel this so much today! An even if they come out as “This is why no one likes you” and even if it is true, it still hurts deep in my soul.

I lost both my earthly parents this year, one is now in Heaven with our Savior and the other still walks this earth, but will forever be cast out of the life I have that remains. Because in fact words do hurt us!!!!!

Dear Heavenly father,

Please bless those in need today to know that the power that you hold is for all of us and that we will feel your love and grace through all our trials. That we may forgive and move forward. Push right through this moment which is shaping us for what’s to come. Watch over and protect us from the evil one and cloth us in your armor which give us strength to endure and overcome. Tie our tongues to not hurt others and to keep what were going through from causing damage to those who cross our path. Bless us with the hearing we need to be guided and lead to the arrival thou desire for us. I am willing to give myself to you!!!

In Jesus’s name we ask you to hold our hand and lead us to the greater good. We need you.

We ask all these things with a humble heart and in the name of our savior Jesus Christ
