Today, we’re in Luke 10, starting in verse 38.

We live in a world that is extremely distracted. Everything competes for our attention, including the app you’re probably reading this on.

My desire is to use this space for good and teach what I call Biblical Business, where we look at the Word of God and see how it applies practically and pragmatically to our businesses.

Luke 10:38 says:

“Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house.”

Martha welcomes Jesus into her home.

Then verse 39 says:

“And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching.”

So Martha is welcoming Jesus and preparing everything, while Mary is sitting at His feet listening to Him.

Then we get to verse 40:

“But Martha was distracted with much serving.”

That is the part I want you to notice.

Are you distracted with good things?

Serving Jesus wasn’t a bad thing. Martha was doing something good. But she was distracted by it and lost sight of the whole point.

A lot of times, we feel exactly the way she feels in this text.

She comes to Jesus and says:

“Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”

She asks Jesus, “Do you not care?”

Then she tells Jesus what He needs to do.

And Jesus responds:

“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things.”

Jesus recognizes the anxiousness and distractedness in her, and that her heart is far from the point of why He is there.

And then in verse 42 He says:

“But one thing is necessary.”

Let that sit for a second.

One thing is necessary.

What was Mary doing?

She sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to His teaching.

What does that mean for us as business leaders?

It means that in these days where we wake up and feel anxious or troubled or distracted, we are called to pause and sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to Him teach.

That means opening His Word and hearing from Him.

That means spending time in prayer with Him.

That means fellowshipping with other people who love the Lord.

In business, it is really easy to feel anxious and troubled and to be distracted by good things.

There will always be another problem to solve, another decision to make, another opportunity to chase, another person who needs something from you.

But Jesus says one thing is necessary.

So before you go looking for another answer for whatever the thing is in front of you in your business, take time to sit at the feet of Jesus.

Sometimes the least productive thing you can do is the most productive thing for your soul.

Today we’re in the book of 2 Chronicles, and what’s just happened is that King Solomon has died and handed off the kingdom to his son Rehoboam.

Rehoboam secures his kingdom, and then we get to chapter 12, verse 1:

“When the rule of Rehoboam was established and he was strong, he abandoned the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.”

I want to call something out in that verse.

“When the rule of Rehoboam was established and he was strong,” THAT is when he abandoned the law of the Lord, and Israel followed.

In business, when everything is going right, when the bills are getting paid, profits are flowing in, and life is good, that may be when you’re in the most danger spiritually.

When things are rough and stuff goes wrong in our lives, we draw near to God. That’s easy.

But the danger can actually come when things are going right.

We have a tendency in our flesh to rely on ourselves, to say, “I did it,” to give ourselves credit, and to forget the God who actually got us to this place. The God who sustains us in the highs and the lows.

So if everything is going right in your business right now, I just want to challenge you, push you, and encourage you to spend more time with the Lord.

Draw near to Him in desperation the same way you would if everything was going wrong.

Cry out to God because things are going right.

And watch the work that the Lord does in your heart.

The title changed, but the foundation of the book did not.

From the very beginning, this has been a book about building and leading businesses according to Biblical principles. The Dispensable CEO came from one of those principles: that a CEO is a steward.

Scripture teaches that everything belongs to God. Our time, our talents, our resources, and yes, our businesses. We are entrusted to lead faithfully for a season, not to build companies that revolve around us or become dependent on our presence. A healthy business should continue creating value, developing people, and fulfilling its purpose long after its founder steps away.

That’s what it means to become a dispensable CEO.

As I finished writing, I realized something.

The Dispensable CEO wasn’t the message. It was for more than just the CEO.

The manuscript was teaching what it looks like to build a business when Scripture shapes every part of how you lead. How you make decisions. How you steward money. How you develop people. How you think about growth. How you define success. How you view your role as a leader.

In other words, it was always about Biblical Business.

The world has taught us to treat “Biblical” and “business” as separate ideas. One belongs on Sunday. The other belongs on Monday morning.

I don’t believe that’s true.

I believe business is one of the greatest stewardship opportunities God gives us. Every hiring decision, every customer interaction, every financial decision, every difficult conversation, and every strategic choice is an opportunity to reflect His character.

That’s why this isn’t a devotional for business owners (though we’ll talk about that).

It isn’t a collection of leadership stories (though I’ll share a few).

And it isn’t another business book built around personality or hustle (we’ve read enough of those).

It’s a practical system for building a profitable, healthy company with Biblical principles shaping how you lead, make decisions, manage money, develop people, grow, and steward what God has entrusted to you.

Each of the Seven Laws is paired with practical implementation tools because conviction without execution rarely changes a business.

My prayer is that this book equips leaders to build businesses that honor God, serve people well, and outlive them.

You got out of bed, walked across the room, poured a cup of coffee, and sat down without thinking about it once. Gravity was working on you through every movement. You barely noticed because your body has spent your entire life learning how to move against it.

Sin works the same way spiritually.

It is always pulling. It pulls your thoughts toward pride, your desires toward selfishness, and your decisions toward whatever feels easiest in the moment. You do not have to make some dramatic decision to move away from God. You only have to stop fighting to remain close to Him. Stop praying. Stop opening Scripture. Stop guarding your heart. Stop paying attention to the slow drift of your thoughts and desires.

The pull will do the rest.

The longer I follow Jesus, the more I recognize that gravity in myself. I feel pride pulling me inward, fear pulling me toward control, and comfort pulling me away from obedience. Following Jesus has made me more aware of how deeply I need Him.

I love space, and the physics of leaving Earth gives me a picture of what Jesus has done for us.

Leaving Earth requires an almost unearthly amount of power. A rocket may begin its flight with nearly 90% of its total weight made up of propellant. Almost the entire machine is devoted to producing enough force to escape the pull holding it down.

The threshold for escaping Earth’s gravitational pull is called escape velocity. For Earth, it is roughly 25,000 miles per hour, around 33 times the speed of sound.

Since the fall in Genesis 3, humanity has lived under the gravitational pull of sin. Pride, envy, anger, fear, greed, and selfishness all pull naturally. We could never generate the spiritual velocity required to escape that power ourselves.

That is why Jesus came.

He entered our atmosphere in a body under the force of gravity. He carried the full weight of human brokenness, took our sin to the cross, entered death, and three days later rose from the grave. He generated the power required to break the hold of sin and death.

When we are in Christ, His righteousness covers us, His Spirit lives within us, and His resurrection becomes our new life. Like astronauts carried beyond Earth by power they could never produce, we are carried by Jesus into freedom.

Earth’s escape velocity is around 33 times the speed of sound.

Jesus died at 33.

Three days later, He rose from the grave, achieving escape velocity for humanity.

That is what makes us astronauts: we are carried by the One who defeated the pull of sin forever and brought into the new life of His resurrection.

Sin is gravity.

In Christ, we can be astronauts.

“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” - Romans 6:4

Because that’s what a controlled burn is, right? It’s just clearing things out so that it doesn’t get worse before it gets better. It’s preparation.

I was talking to my buddy Steve Norman today, and he said that line: “If God is sovereign, then every fire is a controlled burn.”

That quote. That’s good.

Then it got me to thinking about the redwoods.

If you’ve ever been to Sequoia in California they have these amazing redwood trees. They’re massive.

And you can read all about the fact that fire - seemingly devastating fire - is one of the most important elements to these trees being able to grow into giants.

Because lightning strikes and natural fires clear out the brush. Their cones then open up from the heat. And then when the seeds fall, they don’t fall onto a layer of dead leaves. They fall into prepared ground, with more space and more sunlight, so those trees can grow into these massive giants.

All of the fire is prep work for deep, meaningful growth.

God’s written it into the design of His creation, and He’s also written it into the design of your life.

And that’s why Romans 8:28 says that He works ALL things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

Fire is just preparation. Refinement. For His glory.

That date matters to me because I had avoided social media for years. I own a Light Phone. I own disconnectedlife.com. I have strong opinions about attention, distraction, technology, and what constant connection is doing to us.

For a long time, I mostly saw social media as toxic. Noise, vanity, outrage, terrible influence, and people being shaped by algorithms that do not love them.

And honestly, I still think a lot of that is true.

But at some point, I felt convicted. Not an audible voice, but what felt like the Spirit pressing on me: “Your pride is more important than sharing what I have done for you.”

That was true.

I had been calling my avoidance wisdom. Some of it probably was. But a lot of it was pride. I did not want to share. I had judged the medium, and it had become an excuse not to step into it.

So on August 6, 2025, I made an agreement with God. I would post for one year regardless of the results. Not if it worked. Not if it grew. Not if people liked it. For one year, I would show up, share what He had done in me, and trust Him with the outcome.

Over the weekend, Instagram crossed 50,000 followers. Today, TikTok crossed 150,000.

Eleven months in. No paid ads. No bought followers. No agency behind it. Just obedience, consistency, and a message I believe God put on my heart.

I know those are just numbers. Followers are not the mission. Attention is not the same thing as fruit. But numbers are also people, and the stories behind the numbers are what keep reminding me why this matters.

A mom messaged me and told me her son said I was his mentor because he watches all my videos. He had just stepped into leadership at his high school, and he wanted to lead for Jesus. That one has stayed with me.

Because that is not a metric. That is a young man being shaped. That is a mom seeing something in her son. That is someone being reached by a message I almost never shared because I had convinced myself staying away was wisdom.

I also think part of why this has connected is because I am not talking about business from the sidelines. I am an active operator. I am a CEO. I am in the seat right now.

I know what it feels like to carry responsibility, make decisions with incomplete information, hire, fire, lead, correct, build, grow, simplify, fail, and keep going. I know what it feels like to say “God owns this” and still be tempted to carry it like I do.

That is where Biblical Business became such a deep conviction for me.

The Bible is not just a book for Sunday. It is not just a book for private morality or personal character. It is a field guide for how we build, lead, steward, decide, correct, endure, serve, work, rest, and operate.

It speaks to business.

Not in a shallow “put a verse on your website” kind of way. Not as a branding tool. But in a way that gets underneath the whole thing and asks a simple question:

Who actually owns this?

If God owns it, then I am not building from the seat of an owner. I am building from the seat of a steward.

That changes how you see growth, profit, influence, pressure, people, success, and even a platform.

A platform is not something to worship. It is something to steward.

That is the part I am sitting with today. I am grateful for 50,000 people on Instagram. I am grateful for 150,000 people on TikTok. I am grateful the message is moving without paid ads or bought followers.

But mostly, I am grateful God convicted me when I was hiding pride behind wisdom.

Because I almost stayed out of the place He was asking me to step into.

And the data is interesting to me because it does not just show growth. It shows that the message did not get weaker as it reached more people. From my first measured snapshot in October to the end of June, post views grew from 223,000 to 15.6 million. Profile views grew from 6,827 to 231,900. Engagement did not collapse as the account grew either. It actually moved from 7.95% to 10.6%.

That matters because I do not want reach without resonance. I do not want attention that does not move people. I do not want content that performs but does not form.

I want to disrupt the algorithm with truth. I want to put Biblical Business in places where people expect vanity, hustle, greed, and self-promotion. I want to remind people that Jesus is Lord over Monday too.

Lord over the boardroom. Lord over the bank account. Lord over the staff meeting. Lord over the sales call. Lord over the spreadsheet. Lord over the hiring decision, the firing decision, the strategy, the ambition, the restraint, the profit, the loss, and the outcome.

All of it.

And if all of it belongs to Him, then none of it ultimately belongs to me.

That is why I keep coming back to this:

We are dispensable because He is indispensable.

That does not mean we do not matter. It means we are not ultimate. It means we can build without worshiping what we build. It means we can lead without needing to be the center. It means we can be faithful without pretending to be the foundation.

So yes, I am celebrating today. But I am also remembering why I started.

On August 6, 2025, I made an agreement with God that I would post for one year regardless of the results.

Eleven months later, I am more convinced than ever that obedience was the point.

The most dangerous person in your business is not the person who disagrees with you.

It is the person who agrees with you when they know you are wrong.

In 1 Kings 12, we read about Rehoboam, Solomon’s son. He becomes king, and the people come to him asking him to lighten their burden. They say, in essence, “Your father made this heavy on us. If you lighten the burden, we will serve you.”

So Rehoboam looks for advice.

First, he goes to the men who stood before his father. These are the older men, the wise men, the men who had served under Solomon and had seen leadership up close. In 1 Kings 12:6, Rehoboam asks them, “How do you advise me to answer this people?”

And they tell him, “If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them, and speak good words to them when you answer them, then they will be your servants forever.”

That was the counsel. Treat people kindly. Serve them. Speak good words to them. Lead in a way that actually lowers the burden instead of making it heavier.

But Rehoboam abandoned the counsel the old men gave him.

He then went to the young men who had grown up with him and stood before him. They did not stand before Solomon. They stood before Rehoboam. They responded to what they knew, and what they knew was him. His ego wanted to hear what they were about to tell him.

They said, “Thus shall you speak to this people who said to you, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but you lighten it for us,’ thus shall you say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s thighs. And now, whereas my father laid on you a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.’”

When I read that, I think about the modern-day equivalent of a yes man or a yes woman. If you are in business and you are surrounding yourself with people who only tell you what you want to hear, those are extremely dangerous people.

The reason they are dangerous is because they value money over truth. You can call it self-preservation, but at the end of the day, they are going to tell you whatever you want to hear because they are worried about their own pocketbook.

They will not give you the truth because the truth might cost them something.

And that is not loyalty. That is fear. That is self-protection. That is someone keeping their seat at the table while letting you walk into a bad decision.

What you need around you is wise counsel. Wise counsel does not mean someone is always disagreeing with you. It does not mean someone is cynical or combative or trying to prove they are smarter than you. Wise counsel speaks the truth in love. Wise counsel is willing to say what needs to be said, even when it would be easier to stay quiet.

But the leader still has a responsibility. You have to receive the counsel. You have to do something with it. Rehoboam received wise counsel first. He just abandoned it. That is the warning. The wisdom was available to him, but he went looking for the answer his pride already wanted.

That happens in business all the time. A leader says he wants advice, but what he really wants is agreement. He says he wants feedback, but what he really wants is confirmation. And if you reward people for agreeing with you, eventually that is all they will do.

Who you take advice from matters. The person you want around you is not the person who agrees with everything you say. It is the person who is willing to tell you the truth in love. When you find somebody like that, bring that person along with you. Do not punish them for being honest. Do not make truth unsafe. Do not treat disagreement like disloyalty.

A person like that can protect your business for years. And if you do not have someone like that inside your business, then get someone outside of it. Get an advisor. Get someone who can look at your business objectively and tell you when you are wrong.

Because wise counsel is not optional in leadership. If God has entrusted you with people, resources, influence, or a business, then you need voices around you who care more about truth than access.

Rehoboam had wise counsel available to him, but he chose the voices that fed his pride. The result was not just a bad decision. It was a divided kingdom.

That should sober every believer in business.

Do not build a company where people are afraid to tell the truth. Do not confuse agreement with loyalty. And do not mistake flattery for counsel.

You do not need more people protecting your ego.

You need people helping you steward what God has trusted you with.

The thing I’ve been wrestling with lately is that AI is enabling people to do more things than they’ve ever been able to do before.

I see it in myself. I see it in business owners. I see it in leaders.

Need an app? You can build one.

Need copy? You can write it.

Need a workflow? You can create it.

Need a dashboard? You can stand it up.

Need a website? You can launch one this afternoon.

And every day the list gets longer.

What strikes me is that we’ve become so focused on what we can do that we’ve stopped asking whether we should be the ones doing it.

For most of history, capability was a constraint. There were things you simply couldn’t do because you didn’t have the expertise. If you wanted a legal contract, you hired an attorney. If you wanted a complex system built, you found an engineer. If you wanted world-class copy, you found a great copywriter.

Today, AI has removed many of those barriers.

But it hasn’t removed the need for judgment.

In fact, I think judgment may be becoming more valuable.

What I see happening is that people start accumulating responsibilities under the guise of leverage. They build the app themselves. Then they manage the app. Then they write the copy. Then they manage the marketing. Then they build the automation. Then they manage the automation.

Eventually they’re carrying around dozens of jobs they were never uniquely gifted to perform.

Yes, they can do them.

But so what? Capability is becoming a commodity. The ability to produce something is no longer particularly rare.

The ability to discern whether it should be produced, who should produce it, and whether it is good enough to accomplish the mission; that’s still rare.

What makes this interesting from a biblical perspective is that God never designed us to possess every gift.

Paul’s teaching in 1 Corinthians 12 is remarkably countercultural in an age of AI. The body functions because different people bring different gifts. The eye is not the hand. The hand is not the foot. The strength of the body comes from the diversity of gifts working together toward a common purpose.

In many ways, AI is tempting us toward the opposite conclusion. It whispers that because we can do more, we should need fewer people.

But what if the real opportunity is not to replace expertise, but to better understand where expertise matters?

What if the highest and best use of AI is not becoming average at twenty things, but becoming exceptional at the few things God uniquely equipped you to do?

I’ve found that the most effective leaders I know are not trying to do everything themselves. They are incredibly clear about where their judgment creates value and where someone else’s expertise is superior to their own.

The future will belong to people who can leverage capability without confusing it for wisdom.

Because AI is making capability cheap.

Judgment is still expensive.

You’ve probably seen one. The movie ends, and suddenly you’re replaying scenes in your head because now they make sense. Details that barely registered earlier take on a different meaning. You start connecting things that you didn’t notice the first time through.

Life with God can feel that way sometimes.

There are seasons when you’re trying to understand what He’s doing, and you can’t quite make sense of it. You’re praying, you’re trusting, you’re asking questions, and the answers never seem to come in the way you hoped. Then years later, you look back and realize God was at work through that entire season.

That’s what comes to mind when I read Jeremiah 29:11.

God tells His people, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

The people hearing those words were living in exile. Their lives had taken a turn they never expected, and they were trying to understand what God was doing in the middle of it all. God doesn’t explain every detail.

He simply reminds them that He knows the plans He has for them.

I’ve had moments in my own life where I wanted answers from God, and instead what came was time. Looking back now, there are things that make sense to me that never would have made sense in the moment. I can see connections now that I couldn’t see then.

Romans 8:28 says that God works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

I think part of the comfort in that verse is that it doesn’t require me to understand everything while it’s happening. There are things God is doing today that I may not understand for years. There may be things I won’t fully understand in this life at all.

The older I get, the more I find myself looking backward and recognizing God’s hand in places where I couldn’t see it at the time. What once felt confusing eventually became clearer. What felt disconnected found its place in a larger story.

That’s why Jeremiah 29:11 continues to encourage so many believers. It reminds us that God sees more than we do.

While we’re trying to understand the moment we’re in, He already knows where the story is going.

And sometimes that’s enough.

I think a lot of people are exhausted because they’re chasing a version of success God never actually asked them to pursue.

We’ve been taught to think in outcomes.

Growth.
Recognition.
Influence.
Money.
Scale.
Being known.
Being “ahead.”

And slowly, without realizing it, success becomes the thing we serve.

Not openly, of course. Most people wouldn’t say that out loud.

But you can usually tell what someone worships by what controls their peace.

If things are growing, they feel secure.
If things slow down, they feel lost.
If they’re winning, they feel valuable.
If they’re overlooked, they feel invisible.

In business, it’s easy to start measuring your life through numbers and outcomes. You tell yourself you’re pursuing excellence, but underneath it, your identity becomes attached to performance.

And there’s a difference between excellence and identity.

Excellence is good.
We should work hard.
We should build well.
We should be disciplined.
We should care about quality.

But God never asked us to build our identity around success.

What He asks for is stewardship.

That changes everything. Stewardship is much quieter than ambition.

Stewardship asks:
What has God already placed in your hands?

Maybe it’s a business.
Maybe it’s a career.
Maybe it’s your marriage.
Your children.
Your health.
Your finances.
Your friendships.
Your time.
Your attention.

Whatever it is, you are a steward of it.

And I think many people spend their lives waiting to become faithful once they finally have more.

More money.
More opportunity.
More influence.
More certainty.

But faithfulness rarely begins later.

It usually reveals itself in the small things first.

How you show up when nobody notices.
How you handle responsibility before recognition arrives.
How you treat people who cannot advance you.
How you manage what already belongs to God.

Jesus talked often about this idea of being faithful with little.

I don’t think that principle only applies to money. I think it applies to almost everything.

The way you steward today matters.

Not because small things are insignificant, but because small things expose the heart.

And honestly, I think this is where peace starts to return to a person.

When you stop trying to carry the weight of success that was never fully yours to control.

You realize your responsibility is not to force success into existence.

Your responsibility is stewardship.

To be faithful.
To work wholeheartedly.
To manage wisely.
To stay obedient.
To remain grounded.
To keep your character intact while the world teaches people to sacrifice theirs for attention.

And then there’s this strange thing that often happens.

Over time, many people who focus deeply on stewardship end up becoming successful anyway.

Not always in the way the world defines it.
But often even there too.

Because good stewardship tends to produce fruit over long periods of time.

Not instantly.
Not always visibly.
But steadily.

That’s God’s math.

Fruit grows where faithfulness already exists.

But even if it didn’t, stewardship would still matter.

Because at the end of the day, success was never the assignment.

Faithfulness was.

Work is good.

Before the fall of man, Adam & Eve worked in the garden. Human beings were created to build, cultivate, create, and steward. Work was part of God’s design from the beginning.

But after sin entered the world, work changed.

In Genesis 3, God tells Adam that work would now come through toil and by the sweat of his brow. Work became difficult. Frustrating. Heavy.

That is the backdrop behind Proverbs 23:4:

“Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist.”

The warning is not about effort. The warning is about where your trust is placed.

There is a kind of work that is driven by fear. A kind of striving where your identity and security become tied to money, achievement, or accumulation.

You start believing that if you can just make a certain amount of money, then you will finally be safe.

If you can just build enough wealth, then you will finally have peace.

But Scripture tells us that wealth cannot provide the security we are looking for.

Life can change very quickly.

I have personally experienced seasons where I thought I had security, and then it disappeared almost overnight. Markets shift. Businesses struggle. Circumstances change.

Money is not stable enough to carry the weight of your identity or your peace.

That is why Proverbs says to be discerning enough to desist.

You need discernment to recognize when healthy work has become relentless striving.

You need discernment to recognize when ambition has turned into dependence on wealth instead of dependence on God.

And if you feel trapped in that cycle right now, it is not too late to change direction.

Pause and pray.

Spend time with God.

Spend time with people who love Him and speak truth into your life.

Then make the pivot.

Away from the belief that money can save you.

Real peace comes from trusting God, not from reaching a number in your bank account.

Biblical Business is about practically applying biblical wisdom to business, leadership, and career.

⁵ For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. ⁶ For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. -Romans 8:5-6

There’s a war happening inside of every leader.

‍A tension between the desire to trust God, and the urge to grip tighter. A tug-of-war between the longing to do what’s right and the fear that if you don’t keep pushing, it’ll all fall apart. In Romans, Paul writes as someone who’d felt it.

“I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.”
“The evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.”

You feel it in the deal that’s hanging in the balance. The conversation you’re avoiding. The next big thing you’re trying to force. You start to believe peace will come on the other side of accomplishment. That when you finally close the sale, make the hire, or hit the number, you can finally breathe.

But what fills your thoughts – will shape your soul. Read that again...

And the mind set on the flesh fills itself with forecasts and fears…with homes, trips, titles, promotions, worries about the market or what someone else is building.

‍

This is the silent danger of leadership.

It’s possible to look faithful from the outside, but be entirely self-reliant on the inside. You can pray at the dinner table but never in your office. You can appear calm and composed while your heart spins with anxiety, trying to play God in your own story.

“Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?”

So what are some ways to set your mind on the Spirit?

‍

It means choosing a different pace before the rush begins.
It means reading Scripture every day because truth is what reorders the heart.
It means turning off the podcast or music in the car and sitting in silence, asking God to speak.
It means filling your home with prayer, your desk with reminders, your moments with surrender.

‍

Because God’s Word tells us the mind set on the Spirit leads somewhere beautiful:

‍life and peace.

‍

Not just eternal peace…it’s the kind of steady leadership the world desperately needs – and will be seen in your business. Grounded. Discerning. Unshaken.

‍

Start small.

One prayer. One verse. One redirect when your thoughts wander.

And over time, the Spirit will reshape not just your day but your desires.

Because life and peace aren’t found at the finish line of your next achievement. They’re found in the middle of your obedience. In the practice of setting your mind - again and again - on the One who leads with perfect wisdom, carries every burden, and never fails.

Set your mind on the Spirit and find life and peace.

That’s real advice.

No matter how much money you make, keep doing something with your hands. Especially if your work lives in your head all day. You need something that grounds you again.

Mowing does that.

It keeps you humble. It slows you down. It puts you back in the real world. Sun, dirt, sweat, the smell of grass. You don’t get that from a screen.

And if you have a yard at all, it’s a gift.

Most people grow up without that kind of space. I would have killed for it as a kid. So now that I have it, I’m not outsourcing it.

It does matter.

There’s something right about taking care of what you’ve been given. Not because it’s efficient. Not because it moves the business forward. But because it’s yours to steward.

We’ve trained ourselves to think that anything not tied to work is a distraction. That if it doesn’t produce money, it’s beneath us.

That’s wrong.

Taking care of your yard isn’t beneath your work. It’s part of staying grounded enough to do your work well.

It’s simple. But it’s not dumb.

It’s worth your time.

Mow your lawn.

What do you mean you “have to take this”?
You don’t have to take anything.

There’s a text; you don’t have to reply.
There’s an email; you don’t have to open it.
Your phone is ringing; you don’t have to pick it up.

You’re creating the urgency.

You are in control of your life.
No one is forcing you to miss games or skip date nights.
You’re choosing that.

And if you’re telling yourself, “I’ll sacrifice this now so I can live later,”
you’re going to miss the whole thing.

You’re missing it now.

Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.

“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.” - Proverbs 27:1 (ESV)

First - assume positive intent.

If somebody made a mistake, don't assume that they meant to do it. In humility, say, hey, is there something I could have done differently to remove a roadblock?

Second - correct in private; praise in public.

A lot of people do the inverse of this. You give somebody praise in public, and if you have something tough to say, take it to the side, have a one-on-one conversation in care.

Third - protect your peace first.

Start your day off with quiet so that you're not in an agitated mood right as you kick things off. For me, that's time in the Word with God and prayer. Find a peaceful time in the morning every day before you jump into the chaos of the day.

If you do these three things, your team will appreciate it, yes. But your heart and mind will also appreciate it because now….

you won't assume everybody's out to get you.

you’ll be praising people publicly and helping them private, which will develop real relationships.

and you'll be coming at it from a calm place, not a place of anxiety and tenseness that makes its way through the rest of your business.

Beginning around the 12th century, cities across France, Germany, and England started constructing large stone cathedrals. These buildings were designed to honor God and serve as the center of worship for entire communities. The scale of the work required time far beyond a single lifetime.

Notre-Dame in Paris began in 1163 and continued for nearly two centuries.

Cologne Cathedral began in 1248 and was not fully completed until the 1800s.

In many cases, generations of builders contributed to the same structure.

Master builders would create plans and begin construction knowing they would not see the finished result. Stone masons, carpenters, and artisans gave their working years to one section of the building. Some carved details high above the ground that would rarely be seen up close. The work was carried forward by those who came after them, often using the same designs and methods.

The motivation was rooted in faith and responsibility. The cathedral was not treated as a personal project. It belonged to the community and to future generations. Each worker contributed a part, trusting that the whole would be completed over time.

This is where the idea of cathedral thinking comes from. It describes a way of building that is steady, long-term, and grounded in purpose. It assumes that meaningful work can extend beyond one lifetime and still be worth doing. If Jesus came as Light so we wouldn’t remain in darkness, then spiritual disciplines are the way that we can walk in the light.

They are patterns of practical obedience that slowly, steadily shape us into people of purpose. Years ago, I read Disciplines of a Godly Man and it really spoke to me.

I’m a practical person. I like things I can act on. Big dreams don’t scare me but vague ones do. This book reminded me that the way to the life God calls us to isn’t through massive leaps... it’s through small, intentional steps. Daily. Repeated. Quiet. Unseen.

That’s the essence of Cathedral Thinking.

In Disciplines of a Godly Man, R. Kent Hughes outlines 17 practices across relationships, soul, character, and ministry that are the stones of your spiritual cathedral. They don’t always yield instant results, but over time, they shape your heart, leadership, and life into something aligned with God’s purpose.

‍Here are five disciplines to start building your spiritual cathedral this week. They’re simple, intentional steps to pull you out of darkness and into God’s light.

Discipline of the Mind

‍Read and meditate on one passage of Scripture daily.

No need for a set number of verses - just read thoughtfully. Try Psalm 1 or Romans 8 this week.

Discipline of Prayer

‍Talk to God like He’s listening (because He is). Set two alarms on your phone - once in the morning, once mid-afternoon - for 2–3 minutes of prayer.

Thank Him, confess, or ask for guidance. Every prayer is a quiet moment of construction, building a lifelong connection with your Creator.

Discipline of Integrity

‍Be the same when no one’s watching. Keep your word, especially when it costs you.

Reflect on one area where your actions don’t match your values and take one step to correct it this week.

Every honest act strengthens the structure – and that produces benefits generations into the future.

Discipline of Worship

‍Worship reorients your heart to God’s glory, daily and in community.

Listen to one worship song each day. Close your eyes and cry out, lifting your soul toward God.

Discipline of Perseverance‍

Don’t give up when it’s hard.

Ask, “Where do I need to keep showing up?” Commit to one discipline (like Scripture reading) every day this week and track your progress.

Perseverance is laying stones day after day, trusting that God will complete the good work started in you.

You don’t build a cathedral in a day

and you don’t escape darkness overnight. But you don’t have to remain there.

With each small, faithful discipline, the Light gets in. The foundation strengthens. The structure grows. God does eternal things through earthly habits.

Who do you want to be?

What do you want out of this life?

Mind, body, spirit, family, business.

Set the destination in your GPS, and then you can reverse engineer and work toward it.

But if you're just floating along, waking up every day, and you're driving along with no idea of where you're going, you’ll wake up one day and feel like you’ve been going in circles.

Decide where you’re going.

Here’s an easy start:

Set your BIG 3 goals for the year 2026 (what’s left of it).

For life, one each for mind, body and spirit.

For business, one for growth, operations, and finance.

Not in private.
Not quietly.
Out front.

This is a heart issue.

Because some of you will say. “I just want to demonstrate my faith, not talk about it.”

But if you’re honest…
is it conviction?

Or is it fear?

Fear of losing money.
Position.
Opportunity.
Growth.

Joshua made it clear: choose.

So here’s the encouragement: pray, get discernment, and do not be ashamed of the gospel.

He’s not ashamed of you.

He will grow your business.

Maybe not how you expect.
It might go left.
It might go right.
Up or down.

But if you’re with the Lord….that is your reward.

Easter is not a soft holiday. It isn’t about sentiment or tradition. It is a declaration. A line drawn through history.

The claim of Easter is simple and staggering: death lost. Not symbolically. Not metaphorically. Actually.

Jesus was executed in public - brutally, definitively. His followers scattered. Hope collapsed. Rome did what Rome always did. End the threat. Silence the movement. And then three days later, everything reversed.

The tomb was empty. The body was gone. And the same men who ran in fear walked back into the world with unshakable conviction, willing to suffer and die for what they had seen.

You can dismiss religion. You can critique the Church. You can wrestle with theology. But you can’t ignore what this day claims.

That death - the one certainty every human being shares - does not get the final word. That sin, shame, failure, and the weight every person quietly carries were not just managed, but defeated. That there is a King who walked into the grave and walked back out.

Jesus.

Easter confronts us with a choice: Either it’s just another story we’ve learned to live around or it’s the truest thing that’s ever happened - and everything else has to be reinterpreted in light of it.

If death is defeated, then your life is not random, and your future is not closed. If you’re reading this and you’ve not made a decisions about what you believe about Jesus, this is your moment.

[9] because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. [11] For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” [12] For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. [13] For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Images came out today from Artemis II on its way to the Moon. A picture of where every human life has ever existed.

For that place, and for all of us, Jesus who knew no sin became sin.

He did it for everyone on this Earth.

Because of that, eternity with God is now possible. He paid it all.

Space is infinitely dark. And on this day, for three hours, the Earth was too. (Mark 15:33)

Not as a symbol, but revealing the weight of sin and death placed on Him.

This day is good for us. But for Him, it was dark. (Matthew 27:46)

Let’s sit in that.
