Inside the Asylum (1887) - a New Short Film

Hello everyone!

Last Wednesday, we premiered the first trailer for what we were then calling the newest episode of Fragments.

At the time, that was exactly what we thought we were making.

The original idea was modest: a four-minute glimpse inside the Women’s Lunatic Asylum on Blackwell’s Island, inspired by Nellie Bly’s extraordinary undercover investigation in 1887.

Then it became a ten-minute episode, and didn’t stop growing.

The story kept opening new doors.

As the film took shape, the women inside the asylum stopped feeling like figures Nellie merely encountered during her investigation. Their personalities sharpened. Their relationships deepened. Moments that had once seemed small began carrying unexpected weight.

The story developed humor, tenderness, tension, music, and a pulse entirely its own.

Nellie entered the asylum expecting to witness inhumanity.

What she did not expect was the humanity she would find among the women trapped inside it.

That discovery gradually became the heart of the film.

Somewhere during production, it became clear that this was no longer simply an episode of Fragments. It had grown into something larger, with its own dramatic structure, visual language, emotional arc, and identity.

What began as a four-minute episode had become a nearly half-hour short film.

Making Into the Madhouse (1887) independent gives the story room to breathe. It allows Nellie’s investigation to remain the foundation while giving equal weight to the people she meets, the bonds that begin to form, and the choices that follow.

It also gives the film a life beyond the anthology where it began, opening the door to festivals and to audiences who may be encountering Nellie Bly’s story for the first time.

A New Trailer

Because the film had changed, the trailer needed to change with it.

The new version presents Into the Madhouse (1887) not as a preview of another episode, but as the first look at a complete, independent short film.

Production Update

Roughly seventeen minutes of the film are now complete.

Nellie has entered the asylum, witnessed its cruelty, and begun to understand that the truth of Blackwell’s Island lies not only in what the institution does to its patients, but in who those women remain despite it.

The film is now entering its final stretch, as the storylines, relationships, and carefully planted details begin to draw together.

Last Wednesday, we thought we were sharing the trailer for the next episode of Fragments.

One week later, we are introducing a new film.

Hello everyone!

The first trailer for Into the Madhouse (1887) is here.

This new film is the upcoming fourth episode of Fragments, our anthology of fictional dramas set against moments when history shifted beneath people’s feet.

In 1887, journalist Nellie Bly feigned insanity and was committed to the Women’s Lunatic Asylum on Blackwell’s Island under an assumed name.

What she witnessed there would become one of the most important investigations in the history of American journalism.

But Into the Madhouse is not a conventional biographical retelling.

The episode begins as Nellie enters the asylum. This first trailer serves as a prelude, following her through the final hours before she crosses the water and disappears behind its walls.

She knows how to get inside.

She knows that cruelty awaits her.

What she does not expect is the humanity she will find among the women imprisoned there.

Nellie enters believing she is investigating an institution. Inside, she encounters individuals who have been ignored, silenced, misdiagnosed, abandoned, or simply placed somewhere society no longer has to see them.

The asylum is the setting.

The women held inside are the story.

Reconstructing Nellie Bly’s world

The trailer combines historical research, dramatic storytelling, restored nineteenth-century imagery, and generative filmmaking to reconstruct Nellie Bly’s world in motion.

Some of the imagery began as surviving engravings and newspaper illustrations. Those fragments were restored, expanded, and transformed into moving scenes, allowing the visual language of Nellie’s own era to become part of the film itself.

Writings of the real Nellie Bly were analyzed, and her writing style was used to predict the ways she spoke her lines.

The result sits somewhere between historical drama, memory, and a newspaper illustration that has started to breathe.

It is also a fitting approach for a story about journalism.

Nellie Bly took a world that had been hidden from public view and made people look at it. More than a century later, we are using another emerging medium to bring that world back into sight.

This is only the first glimpse inside

The trailer ends where the episode truly begins.

Nellie has crossed the water.

The asylum doors are waiting.

And once they close behind her, the investigation becomes something far more personal than she anticipated.

Some escapes end the moment the door opens.

Others begin there.

Today, I’m excited to share the newest episode of The Wayfarer:

The Wayfarer — Episode 4: “The Cost of Escape”

This episode continues the story begun in “The Prison That Forgot Its Prisoner” — a prison break, a pan-dimensional corridor, a rescue that should not have worked, and a Dalet Door built in haste to hold back something far larger than anyone fully understands.

But in the Dice & Destiny Mythos, nothing stays contained forever.

A prison can forget.
A door can weaken.
A crew can survive the first disaster and still discover they have not escaped the consequences.

That is where “The Cost of Escape” begins.

This chapter pushes The Wayfarer deeper into the strange physics and mythic danger at the heart of the larger five-series universe. The crew of The Wayfarer are still trying to understand what happened, what is happening, and whether their choices can truly change what is coming — or only delay it.

And, as always, MOTHER may have answers.

Whether those answers are helpful, accurate, or morally comforting is another matter entirely.

A Little About This One

This episode was a sprint, a puzzle box, and occasionally a tiny production goblin with a clipboard.

It involved pan-dimensional ruptures, mysterious fleets, uncomfortable countdowns, ship interiors, command rooms, impossible readings, and the ongoing challenge of making a story feel large while building it one shot, one frame, one voice, and one strange little visual decision at a time.

That is one of the things I love most about this kind of filmmaking.

Generative AI does not make the impossible easy.

But it does make the impossible reachable.

And for independent filmmakers, that is a very big deal.

Part of the Larger Mythos

For those following the broader Dice & Destiny Mythos, this episode is another important fracture point.

The Wayfarer may be set far from 1991 Queens, far from the abandoned asylums, old videotapes, tabletop games, ancient cities, gods in disguise, and strange little echoes that make up the rest of the universe…

…but the cracks are starting to rhyme.

The Dalet Door.
The Chronosphere.
The coming collapse.
The idea that fate may not be stopped — only delayed.

Different series.
Different rules.
Same gathering storm.

That makes this a very good week for ancient gods, impossible cities, prophetic serpents, time-bending archaeology, and cosmic scheduling problems.

A mythos five series wide

And slowly — sometimes quietly, sometimes catastrophically — those stories are beginning to recognize each other.

Generative AI and the Return of Filmmaking by the People

And yes: generative AI is a huge part of how this is possible.

I’m working with several artificial intelligence systems, as they contribute as co-writers, co-creators, and new kinds of cameras.

AI offers new ways for small teams, outsiders, oddballs, working-class dreamers, and “wait, what if the ancient city is also a time wound?” people to make films that used to require studio gates, giant budgets, and six executives named Chad.

Filmmaking belongs to the people.

Always has.

Now we’re merging cutting-edge technology with lessons learned from the masters — so everyday creators can build strange worlds, tell impossible stories, and make films that were once out of reach for all but the most well-connected.

That’s the part that is so groundbreaking to me.

It’s not just that these tools can make images move, or conjure strange cities, or give form to scenes that used to live only in notebooks and half-mad midnight conversations.

It’s that they can help return scale to independent imagination.

They can let a filmmaker without a studio build a world.

They can let a writer without a greenlight make the impossible visible.

They can let the weird kids, the working-class dreamers, the genre nerds, the myth-makers, the “this is probably too ambitious but let’s try it anyway” people step forward with stories that are bigger than the rooms they were allowed into.

That’s worth celebrating.

And speaking of weird new happenings…

The latest episode of Fragments has broken through — and some familiar faces are appearing in unfamiliar places.

In Fragments episode 3 — The Woman on the Table, the world of Dice & Destiny begins to overlap with the larger mythos in a way the kids can no longer ignore.

Judith, Jamie, Alex, and Mara are gathered in a Queens living room in 1991, watching a videotape like they’ve done a hundred times before.

Only this time, Judith notices something.

Something familiar.

Something haunting.

And once Judith sees it, the room changes.

The show stops being entertainment.

The story stops staying where it belongs.

What follows is not quite a crossover, and not quite a revelation. It is the largest crack yet in a much larger pattern — one that connects Dice & Destiny, Mortal Coil, The Monster Show, The Wayfarer, and the strange little fragments hidden between them.

Some stories happen in order.

This one happens because order is breaking.

This episode was built from more than 70 hours of work creating, culling, shaping, and editing hundreds of short clips into one strange little fracture in the larger Dice & Destiny Mythos.

The process was part filmmaking, part archaeology, and part staring at twelve nearly identical shots while whispering, “No, this one knows something.”

Hi everyone!

Happy Weird World Wednesdays. And truly, thanks for being a subscriber. I don’t take that lightly.

Today’s release is a special one for me, and I’m really excited to finally share it with you.

In a city older than history…
Before Mesopotamia—before written memory of our own age—
something is rising again.

A king faces the collapse of reality itself.
A woman arrives with news of an unfolding ancient prophecy.
And The City—ancient, infinite, inevitable—awakens once more.

Mortal Coil — Episode 3: The God of Delay is now live.

This episode actually started with a nightmare.

I found myself in The City — a metropolis of more than a billion people, as large as an entire nation—alive with people, history, and something just beneath the surface I couldn’t quite understand. And at the center of it all… something called The Infinite Stack. I won’t spoil anything, but it’s… important. Very important.

That feeling stuck with me. And over time, I learned more about The City—its people, its structures, its meaning.

From there, the story grew into what you see now—a civilization that has fallen and risen across ages, standing at the center of human existence, caught in a cycle where destiny doesn’t end… it comes back around.

At the heart of it all is King Melqart, given one impossible chance: not to stop what is coming—but to delay it.

Because some endings are not endings.
They are turning points in an endless cycle—
where destiny falls… and rises once more.

On the production side, this one was a beast—in the best way.

The episode came together from more than 1,000 video and audio clips, with over 150 of those carefully shaped and edited (plus sound, foley, and visual effects) into the final piece.

All told, it was about 125 hours of work, spread across three and a half weeks.

So yeah… not exactly “push a button.” 😉

But honestly, this is why I love working this way—it lets me chase ideas like this all the way down the rabbit hole and actually bring them to life.

This is a story about fate…
about the fragile, defiant hope that maybe—just maybe—
we can delay what cannot be stopped.

This is myth.
This is memory.
This is one small piece of a much larger puzzle.

And this… is the story of one impossible chance
to delay the inevitable.

✨ The City is rising.
As it always does.

For a long time, storytelling had gatekeepers.

A small team—or one slightly unhinged filmmaker with a stack of AI tools and too many ideas—can build entire worlds.

That doesn’t mean everything made this way is good.

But it does mean something important:

The gate is no longer locked.

And if you’ve got something to say… you don’t have to wait anymore.

A Tradition of Not Asking

Pablo Picasso didn’t ask if cubism made sense.
Frida Kahlo didn’t ask if her work was “marketable.”
Andy Warhol didn’t ask if art needed to behave.

They made the work.

Some people hated it.
Some people didn’t understand it.
And some people saw something new.

That’s the deal.

Something is wrong in Shattered Realms. And it doesn’t stop there.

What began as a desperate search for spare parts has led our stranded crew somewhere far more dangerous than the war-torn city they were trying to avoid.

At the edge of the desert, with their airship—the Sky Corsair—crippled and grounded, Captain Kestrel and the others make a choice: risk the unknown, or remain stuck and helpless.

They choose the unknown.

And it leads them inside.

The Descent

Beyond a set of heavy doors, down a flight of stairs, into darkness—this episode shifts.

The rules feel… less certain.

Kestrel, Vespera, Arielle, Vex, and Ironhide push forward into a place that shouldn’t exist within the logic of the game they built. What they find isn’t just danger—it’s something watching back. Something that feels familiar in all the wrong ways.

This is where Dice & Destiny starts to lean harder into what it’s been quietly building toward:

Not just adventure.
Not just mystery.
But intrusion.

Back in Queens, 1991

Around the table, the game continues.

Alex, Mara, Judith, Jamie, and Derek are still just a group of friends in a working-class neighborhood—rolling dice, arguing over rules, laughing, pushing each other’s buttons.

But something is shifting here too.

The tension is different now.
The stakes feel closer.
And not everything that happens in the game seems to stay there.

What they’re facing in Queens isn’t a monster in the dark.

It’s quieter than that.
More personal.
And potentially far more dangerous.

Two Worlds, One Fracture

Into the Asylum (1963) is a turning point.

The boundary between the “in-game” world and the “real” one isn’t breaking—
…but it’s definitely bending.

If you’ve been watching closely, you may start to notice echoes:

Familiar objects appearing where they shouldn’t
Rules being questioned… or ignored
Moments where cause and effect don’t quite line up

This episode doesn’t answer those questions.

It makes them louder.

Why AI Creator House Exists

I didn’t come up through the film industry.
I grew up through stories.

The ones that shaped my worldview as a child with didn’t revolve around the powerful or the comfortable. They were about outsiders. About people on the margins. About the poor, the overlooked, the stubbornly human.

Those stories didn’t just entertain me — they shaped how I understood the world, and who mattered in it.

You don’t see many of those stories anymore.

What’s largely replaced them are films and shows obsessed with the low-stakes anxieties of the wealthy and powerful — narratives that mistake proximity to privilege for universality. They’re slick, well-made, and increasingly hollow.

A Shift in the Tools

When generative AI first became available to the public, something clicked.

For the first time in a long while, it felt like the tools of media creation might finally realign with the scale of human experience. Not perfectly. Not automatically. But potentially.

These technologies don’t just shrink costs — they lower gates.

And that opens the door to a new era of storytelling, one told from the viewpoints of the vast majority of the human race, not just the narrow slice we’ve been trained to watch.

What AI Creator House Is

AI Creator House is a film and web-series studio, first and always.

We’ve already released feature-length AI-powered films, dozens of shorts, and we’re currently producing an interconnected mythos spanning four original web series.

That matters — but not as a résumé.

There’s a three-headed dog under the table. There’s a feral half-cat daughter who refuses to respect the laws of… well, anything. There is math. We regret nothing.

This special episode is a love letter to vintage holiday TV classics—only filtered through black-and-white monster sitcom energy and a slightly warped reality field. Think cozy nostalgia, if your nostalgia occasionally caught fire or summoned something unspeakable.

You can expect:

The newest episode of Mortal Coil, Loki Here, is now live — and if you’ve ever wondered what would happen if ancient gods stopped announcing themselves with thunder and instead opened small businesses in 1991 Queens… well, you’re in the right place.

In Loki Here, the trickster god is just trying to keep a low profile, running a magic shop and minding his own business. Naturally, that plan lasts about five minutes. A mysterious shoplifter shows up with impeccable timing, a neighboring bodega owner seems a little too sharp, and Loki begins to suspect that fate itself might be nudging the pieces around the board.

Mortal Coil is an anthology about old myths adapting to modern life — quietly, awkwardly, and often hilariously. No capes. No prophecies shouted from mountaintops. Just gods, humans, and the uneasy feeling that the universe might be paying attention.

This episode was created by blending human imagination with cutting-edge AI filmmaking tools — pushing the limits of what small, independent creators can do, as we push toward the day when Hollywood studios reside within personal computers, and the cost of making films fall from the price of a skyscraper to the price of an electric bike, reclaiming storytelling for ordinary people.
