Iran’s political order was therefore born not merely as a change of government, but as a civilisational and ideological reconstitution of the state. It sought independence from foreign influence, particularly that of the United States; established a theocratic framework for political authority; and placed revolutionary institutions, clerical authority, and later the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at the centre of national life. The Iranian Revolution also transformed the regional balance of power by creating a state that openly challenged the strategic architecture built by the United States and its allies in West Asia.

Yet the Islamic Republic has spent much of its existence under extraordinary pressure. It confronted the Iran–Iraq War in the 1980s, international isolation, recurrent tensions over its nuclear programme, waves of domestic protest, economic mismanagement, currency instability, and a steadily widening gap between the aspirations of sections of Iranian society and the ideological orientation of the state. U.S. sanctions began soon after the Revolution and have remained a recurring feature of Iran’s external environment, with only limited and temporary relief around the 2015 nuclear agreement.

Four Decades of Testing

The Iranian state has demonstrated substantial resilience. It survived an eight-year war with Iraq, repeated economic shocks, covert conflict, cyberattacks, assassinations of military and scientific personnel, and persistent diplomatic and economic pressure. It also built a complex institutional system that distributes power across the office of the Supreme Leader, the presidency, parliament, judiciary, Guardian Council, Assembly of Experts, clerical networks, the IRGC, intelligence agencies, religious foundations, and associated political and economic elites.

This institutional density helps explain why public anger or a single external shock does not automatically translate into regime collapse. Regime change requires more than dissatisfaction. It normally depends on the interaction of mass mobilisation, elite fragmentation, a credible alternative political leadership, weakening loyalty within coercive institutions, and an inability of the state to restore order or maintain basic legitimacy.

Nonetheless, the regime has faced mounting structural challenges. The social composition of Iran has changed sharply since 1979. Its population is more urbanised, educated, digitally connected, and globally exposed. Women, young people, students, professionals, and sections of the urban middle class have repeatedly challenged social controls and political restrictions. The state’s capacity for repression has remained considerable, but the legitimacy of the political system has faced a longer-term erosion among important social constituencies.

Economic distress has intensified these pressures. Sanctions have restricted oil revenues, financial transactions, access to investment, technology, banking channels, shipping, and international trade. While Iran has developed mechanisms to endure sanctions and maintain trade through alternative partners and informal channels, the costs are borne heavily by ordinary citizens through inflation, falling purchasing power, currency depreciation, uncertainty, and constraints on employment and investment. Iran has survived decades of sanctions, but survival should not be confused with economic health or social stability.

War and the Regime-Change Objective

The current confrontation with the United States and Israel has added a far more direct security dimension to Iran’s internal vulnerabilities. On February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with other senior Iranian figures. The operation represented an extraordinary escalation: a direct attempt to degrade Iran’s leadership, military capacity, and structures of political control.

Statements and reporting around the conflict indicated that regime change was not merely a peripheral possibility but a stated political objective for sections of the U.S-Israeli leadership. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly appealed to Iranians to rise against the existing order, while the wider strategy appeared to rely on the belief that the elimination of senior leaders, destruction of military infrastructure, and intensification of public distress could create an opening for political collapse.

However, the expectation that leadership decapitation would immediately produce regime change has not been fulfilled. Assessments cited in contemporary reporting suggested that Iran’s leadership and governing structures remained substantially intact, while U.S. intelligence did not see an imminent collapse of the Iranian state. Analysts have similarly argued that the initial strike, though a major blow, did not trigger an immediate nationwide political uprising; instead, elements of the regime’s more radical and security-oriented core appeared to gain greater influence.

This is a crucial distinction. The death of a Supreme Leader can produce a succession crisis, a restructuring of the ruling coalition, or a shift in the relative power of clerical and security institutions. It does not necessarily bring about the end of the state established in 1979. Indeed, one possible outcome of a leadership decapitation strategy is not liberal political transition, but a more militarised and securitised state, with the IRGC and allied institutions acquiring an even greater role in governance.

Iran’s continued military response and the persistence of state structures demonstrate that the conflict has become a struggle of endurance. Yet the war compounds every existing internal difficulty: it increases security expenditure, disrupts trade and investment, worsens uncertainty, places further pressure on public finances, and can deepen the burden on households already affected by sanctions and inflation.

The Dāśā Periods and Political Transition

The astrological analysis should be treated as a symbolic reading of a period of heightened political pressure, not as deterministic proof of a particular outcome. In mundane astrology, national charts are interpreted through the condition of houses connected with the state, throne, executive authority, foreign conflict, public order, and national stability. In the present case, the recurring theme in the dāśā analysis is the affliction of significators associated with authority and governance, particularly the fourth, seventh, eighth, and tenth houses and the Amātyakāraka.

Vimśottarī Dāśā

Iran is presently passing through the dāśā chhidra of Jupiter, with Rahu antardaśā continuing until November 2027. The period after this is particularly significant because the Saturn mahādaśā begins thereafter. Saturn is the Amātyakāraka and is conjoined with Rahu, indicating that the significator of administration and political authority comes under the influence of a disruptive and destabilising nodal force.

Saturn is also the lord of the seventh and eighth houses. It aspects its own house, as well as the fourth house and the fourth lord situated in the eighth house. In mundane astrology, the fourth house is connected with the throne, the foundation of the state, internal stability, territorial security, and the settled authority of the ruler. The affliction of the fourth house by Mars adds a further dimension of conflict, violence, contestation, and instability.

The seventh and tenth houses also emerge as significantly afflicted. From Saturn, the tenth house is occupied by the exalted twelfth lord, while the seventh house is deeply affected by the nodal axis and the tenth lord is under affliction. The tenth house represents authority, government, executive power, administration, and the visible direction of the state. When the tenth house and its lord are repeatedly afflicted, the symbolism points towards strain on governing authority, institutional contestation, and a potential restructuring of the political order.

The divisional charts reinforce this picture. In the Navāṃśa, Saturn is placed in the seventh house with the retrograde eighth lord and fifth lord, while the tenth lord is debilitated in the sixth house. From Saturn, the tenth house again comes under nodal affliction. In the Triṃśāṃśa, the Amātyakāraka occupies the twelfth house with the tenth lord and is afflicted by the fourth lord. Taken together, the Amātyakāraka and the tenth lord from the Amātyakāraka appear to be under serious affliction.

This points to a period in which the existing configuration of authority may find it difficult to remain unchanged.

Sthira Dāśā

The Capricorn mahādaśā begins in April 2027. In the Jaimini framework, Capricorn carries significance as the tenth sign of the Kāl Puruṣa chart and is associated with structures of authority, governance, institutional responsibility, and the visible ordering of public life. Its activation in the Iranian national chart therefore deserves attention.

The Amātyakāraka is placed in the eighth house from the Capricorn mahādaśā sign, in Leo. Leo itself is deeply afflicted by the nodes and by Saturn. Rahu and Saturn are traditionally treated as major malefic influences in the Jaimini system, and their association with the Amātyakāraka, together with Gulika and Mandi, intensifies the symbolism of political instability, crisis, hidden conflict, and potential loss of status.

Further, Capricorn is under Kemadruma influence. From Capricorn, the tenth lord is placed in the second house and is under affliction; the same adverse pattern persists in relation to the tenth house. This once again brings the focus back to the structure of authority, the political leadership, and the continuity of the ruling order.

The Pisces antardaśā within Capricorn mahādaśā begins in June 2028. During this phase, the tenth lord from Pisces is situated in the fifth house and receives the aspect of the trik lord from the twelfth house, as well as the fifth lord from the third house. The Amātyakāraka again occupies a trik bhāva from the dāśā sign. The tenth house receives further affliction from the Gnātikāraka and Dārakāraka, while the tenth ārūḍha is located in the twelfth house along with the sixth and eighth ārūḍhas.

The cumulative astrological symbolism is one of heightened stress upon political authority, conflict within or around the state, losses or reversals in governance, and a possible transition in the persons or institutions exercising power.

Chara Dāśā

The Capricorn mahādaśā is again active during 2028, with Aquarius antardaśā. The importance of the Capricorn period can also be seen against the backdrop of recent developments. The beginning of the Capricorn period coincided with an intensification of direct Iran-Israel confrontation in 2024.

The political significance of this period lies in the fact that Iran’s external conflict increasingly became inseparable from its internal political stability. Military casualties, attacks on senior leadership, sanctions, economic pressure, and the question of succession all combine to test the state’s capacity to maintain cohesion.

Yoginī Dāśā

Mangala dāśā begins toward the end of July 2028. In the progressive Yoginī dāśā system described by Shri Vinod Prakash Goel, the relevant nakshatra is Chitra, whose lord is Mars. Mars is the third and eighth lord and is conjoined with the lagna lord and the tenth lord, while also associated with the twelfth lord.

The eighth lord aspects the tenth house, and the tenth house stands in śubha kartarī. Yet Mars, as a significator of force, conflict, military action, assertion, and rupture, is especially relevant for a state already experiencing heightened external confrontation and internal pressure. The third-house association can indicate strategic initiative, conflict, military mobilisation, or intense political assertion, while the eighth-house association raises the possibility of sudden reversals, concealed power struggles, institutional crisis, and transformation.

CSP 2028

The CSP chart for 2028 reveals an exchange between the tenth and fifth lords. The fifth lord is retrograde in the tenth house, while the tenth lord is placed in the fifth house along with the sixth and eighth lords. As the fifth house of the natal chart functions as the lagna of the CSP chart, the superimposition of the CSP lagna on the natal chart becomes significant.

In this superimposed structure, the tenth house is occupied by the third and fourth lords within the Rahu-Ketu axis and receives the aspect of the seventh and twelfth lords. The tenth lord is positioned in the fifth house with the eighth and sixth lords and is further aspected by the exalted fifth lord from the ninth house. The 4-10 axis representing the foundations of the state and the exercise of authority, therefore, appears severely afflicted.

Astrologically, the repeated activation and affliction of the 4-10 axis is particularly notable. The fourth house concerns the inner foundation, territorial stability, and throne of the state; the tenth concerns visible authority, government, leadership, and administration. When both are under severe pressure across several dāśā systems and annual indications, the symbolism suggests not merely routine political turbulence but a possible reordering of the ruling structure.

Conclusion

Iran’s future cannot be reduced either to external military pressure or to astrological configurations. Its political trajectory will depend on concrete factors: the resilience of its institutions, the unity or fragmentation of elite networks, the role of the IRGC, the capacity of society to organise politically, the economic consequences of sanctions and war, and the ability of a post-Khamenei order to establish legitimacy.

The U.S-Israeli strategy of killing senior leaders and applying military pressure appears to have sought a rapid weakening of the Iranian state and, ultimately, a political transformation in Tehran. Yet the evidence so far suggests that leadership decapitation alone has not produced immediate regime collapse. Contemporary assessments indicate that Iran’s governing structure has shown significant resilience despite the scale of military attack and the loss of senior figures.

The dāśā analysis, however, indicates that the deeper period of transition may not be confined to the immediate aftermath of war. The end of the Rahu antardaśā in November 2027, the commencement of Saturn mahādaśā, the activation of Capricorn in Sthira and Chara dāśā frameworks, the Pisces antardaśā from June 2028, the onset of Mangala Yoginī dāśā after July 2028, and the strongly afflicted 4-10 axis in the CSP 2028 chart together point towards a major political inflection point.

The period after mid-2028 appears astrologically conducive to a change of guard: a change in leadership, a reorganisation of the governing elite, a restructuring of the relationship between clerical and security institutions, or, under more severe political and social pressures, a wider transformation of the regime itself.

A Question That Refuses to Leave

When Christopher Nolan’s Inception first lingers in the mind, it is not merely because of its visual brilliance or layered plot. It is because it leaves behind a question that does not end with the film: ‘Which is reality?’ A dream, while it lasts, does not announce itself as false. It carries its own logic, its own emotional force, and its own sense of continuity, so much so that one surrenders to it completely while living through it. That is what makes the film such a compelling entrance into a much older and deeper inquiry found in the Māṇḍūkya Upaniṣad, where waking, dream, and deep sleep are examined not as isolated conditions, but as passing modes of consciousness illumined by something more fundamental.

Raja Janaka’s Doubt

This question is beautifully anticipated in the traditional story of Raja Janaka and Rishi Ashtavakra. Janaka once dreamt that he was caught in a fierce and devastating struggle, and the dream was so vivid that when he awoke, the emotional exhaustion of it still clung to him. Disturbed, he asked a penetrating question: which is real — this waking state, or that dream state in which he had suffered so intensely? Ashtavakra did not answer by choosing one over the other. Instead, he asked what was common to both. Janaka saw the point immediately: in both states, the one constant was himself. The dream had changed, the waking world had changed, but the witness of both remained unchanged.

That answer forms the philosophical heart of this inquiry. The issue is not whether dream is false and waking is true in a practical sense. The deeper issue is that both are experienced, both come and go, and both depend upon a knower who is present to them. If that is so, then reality cannot finally belong to what appears and disappears. It must belong to that in whose light both states are known.

The Dream State in the Mandukya Upanishad

The Māṇḍūkya Upaniṣad examines consciousness through three ordinary states: waking, dream, and deep sleep, and then points toward Turiya, which is beyond all three. The dream state, or svapna, is especially important because it reveals consciousness turned inward, moving through subtle impressions and creating its own experiential world. In dream there are scenes, events, fears, pleasures, identities, and movement, and all of these appear real while the dream continues. Only when waking occurs does the dreamer recognize that the dream world was a projection arising within consciousness itself.

This is why the dream state is not merely a psychological curiosity. It is a philosophical revelation. It shows that a complete and persuasive world can arise within consciousness without possessing ultimate solidity. The dreamer does not usually question the dream while inside it; he inhabits it, suffers in it, hopes in it, and reacts to it as though it were unquestionable reality. Once awakened, however, the apparent certainty of the dream collapses. The Māṇḍūkya uses this insight to invite a more radical reflection: if a dream can feel real while it lasts, what gives waking life its unquestioned authority beyond habit, continuity, and collective agreement?

Is Waking Life Also Dream-Like?

Vedānta does not say that waking life and dream are identical in every practical respect. Waking life has greater continuity, order, and shared coherence than dream. Yet the Upaniṣadic point is subtler: both are states, both are objects of awareness, and both are transient. The waking world may be more durable than a dream, but it too changes, dissolves, and passes through time. It too is known only because consciousness illumines it.

From this standpoint, life may be described as dream-like. This does not mean that life is meaningless or that the world should be dismissed carelessly. It means that ordinary experience is not ultimate. What appears solid, binding, and final may belong only to the order of appearance, just as the dream belongs to its own order until awakening reveals its limitation. The true philosophical move, therefore, is not from world to denial, but from appearance to discrimination.

Turiya and the Witness

The Māṇḍūkya Upaniṣad culminates in Turiya, often called ‘the fourth’, though it is not truly a fourth state standing alongside the other three. Turiya is the basis of waking, dream, and deep sleep; it is the silent and unchanging awareness in whose presence all three arise and subside. It is not an event, not a passing condition, and not a special mood of mind. It is the witness consciousness itself.

This is precisely why Ashtavakra’s reply to Janaka is so luminous. If the king can witness both the dream and the waking state, then he cannot be confined to either. The witness is not exhausted by the content of experience. Battle, palace, fear, honor, poverty, and kingship all belong to the shifting theater of states. The witness alone remains constant. That is the deeper reality to which the Upaniṣad points.

A Jyotish Reading of Consciousness

A refined Jyotish reading can enrich this inquiry by offering a symbolic map of how consciousness expresses itself through different layers of life. In this interpretive framework, the Lagna may be understood as the conscious self — the immediate center through which embodied life is perceived and enacted. The 3rd house may be read as the field of instinctive or unconscious effort, where impulses, striving, courage, and initiative often arise before they are fully illuminated by reflective awareness. The 6th house may be viewed as the domain of sub-conscious burdens, inherited patterns, debts, conflicts, and karmic obligations, while the 9th house stands as the sphere of higher wisdom, grace, dharma, and super-conscious light.

Presented in this way, Jyotish does not merely describe events; it becomes a symbolic psychology of embodiment. The conscious self, represented by the Lagna, does not exist in isolation. It is shaped from below by impulses and residual tendencies, and from above by the possibility of insight, meaning, and revelation. Between unconscious effort and super-conscious wisdom, the individual navigates karma, memory, and aspiration. Human life is not experienced only on the surface of waking awareness, but through multiple depths of conditioning and illumination.

The 3rd House and Unconscious Effort

The 3rd house is traditionally associated with effort, courage, initiative, and the will to act. Interpreted philosophically, effort often emerges from strata of the self that are not fully conscious. Much of human striving begins as impulse, instinct, unfinished desire, fear, or compulsion before it is articulated as deliberate intention. In this sense, the 3rd house can be understood as a field of unconscious motion — the push of becoming before clarity dawns.

This has a deep resonance with the dream state. Just as dream constructs worlds from subtle impressions, unconscious effort constructs direction from inner tendencies not yet fully known to the waking self. A person often acts first and understands later. The movement of life begins beneath the polished surface of self-explanation. Thus the 3rd house may be seen as one of the places where the dream-like machinery of embodied existence is already at work.

The 6th House and the Debt of Karma

The 6th house is commonly linked with debt, struggle, service, enemies, obstacles, and disease. In a more refined spiritual reading, it can be understood as the house of sub-conscious karmic residue — the unfinished obligations with which one is born. These are not merely external difficulties. They are the pressures of a past not fully resolved, the weight of tendencies seeking expression, correction, or exhaustion through lived experience.

Such a reading makes the 6th house philosophically powerful. If human life is dream-like, then karma is one of the principal forces that gives the dream its compelling structure. One is born already situated within debts, habits, limitations, and conflicts that seem deeply personal but may in fact arise from a continuity larger than present conscious memory. The sub-conscious thus becomes a karmic archive, and the 6th house its symbolic field. The life one calls “mine” is then not entirely self-authored; it is also inherited, conditioned, and worked through.

The 9th House and the Light of Wisdom

If the 3rd represents unconscious effort and the 6th sub-conscious burden, the 9th may be understood as super-conscious illumination. The 9th house is classically linked with dharma, higher knowledge, grace, blessings, teachers, and the revelation of truth. In a contemplative reading, it is the light that shows the Lagna something greater than its immediate identifications. It reminds the conscious self that life cannot be reduced to habit, struggle, or egoic effort alone.

This makes the 9th house essential to liberation. Without a higher principle of meaning, the Lagna remains trapped in the narrow certainties of the waking personality. The 9th opens a vertical axis in human life. It introduces guidance, wisdom, and the possibility that one may awaken from compulsive identification with passing states. In this sense, the 9th does for the astrological self what Turiya does for the philosophical self: it points beyond immersion toward illumination.

The 6th as the 10th from the 9th

A particularly elegant insight emerges when the 6th house is seen as the 10th from the 9th. The 10th signifies karma, action, and what must be done in lived reality. If the 9th is wisdom, dharma, and higher truth, then the 6th as the 10th from it can be interpreted as the karma of wisdom — the field in which higher understanding must become work, service, discipline, and the resolution of debts.

This transforms the symbolism of the 6th. It is not merely a house of affliction; it is also the arena in which the light of the 9th is tested, embodied, and made effective. Wisdom that does not enter karma remains abstract. Insight that does not address debt remains incomplete. Through this lens, the 6th house becomes a necessary domain of purification, where one does not merely suffer karma but consciously works through it under the guidance of a higher light.

Mandukya and Jyotish Together

When read together, the Māṇḍūkya Upaniṣad and this Jyotish framework offer a strikingly coherent picture. The Upaniṣad teaches that waking, dream, and deep sleep are passing states illumined by the witness. Jyotish, in turn, may be read as mapping how the conscious self becomes entangled in unconscious effort, sub-conscious debts, and the search for super-conscious guidance. One speaks in the language of pure consciousness; the other in the language of symbolic structure. Yet both direct attention toward the same truth: what is ordinarily taken as identity is layered, conditioned, and not final.

The conscious self of the Lagna lives inside a world of action, struggle, memory, and aspiration. It pushes through the 3rd, suffers and purifies through the 6th, and receives light through the 9th. But none of these alone is the final self. Just as Janaka was neither the defeated wanderer of dream nor merely the waking king, the individual is not reducible to the passing arrangements of effort, debt, or destiny. These belong to the field of experience. The witness belongs to another order altogether.

The Final Return to Janaka

This is why the story of Janaka and Ashtavakra remains such a fitting end to the inquiry. Janaka wished to know which state was real, the dream or the waking. The sage redirected him from the drama of states to the constancy of the seer. That movement is the essence of awakening. One ceases to search for certainty within changing scenes and begins instead to recognize the consciousness that knows them.

In the end, Inception serves only as the spark, the dream as the mirror, the Upaniṣad as the guide, and Jyotish as the symbolic map. The real culmination lies in the recognition that waking life, however persuasive, may still belong to the order of appearance. Dreams come and go; waking worlds rise and fall; karma unfolds and exhausts itself; effort surges and wisdom dawns. But through them all, the witness remains. That alone is real. EVERYTHING ELSE IS A PASSING SCENE IN THE VAST INTERIOR THEATER OF CONSCIOUSNESS.

When we pause honestly, a discomforting question appears: do we love, or do we merely cling to pleasant sensations, security, and images of ourselves reflected in others’ eyes? What we often call love may be a sophisticated form of self-love: I love not you, but the way “I” feel with you, the role you allow me to play, the narrative you complete in my psyche. From an Indian philosophical standpoint, such experiences belong to the realm of nāma–rūpa (name and form) continually shifting under the spell of Māyā; they appear solid yet dissolve as circumstances change. If love is only this, then it is not eternal; it is a moving mirage that mind chases across the desert of time.

It is here that Indian traditions draw a sharp yet subtle distinction between two very different movements of the heart. On one side stands Kāma—desire, attraction, possessiveness, the longing to have and to hold, to enjoy and to keep. Kāma can be tender and beautiful, but it is mixed with fear, demand, and dependency; it contracts around “mine” and “not-mine”, it suffers when its object changes or withdraws. On the other side stands Prema or Bhakti—love that does not arise merely from lack, but from fullness; it seeks not to possess the beloved but to serve, not to consume but to offer. This love is said to be rooted not in the restless mind but in the Self, or in God as the inner Beloved, and thus it participates in something abiding.

Our inquiry in this article begins exactly at this fault line. We will probe whether what we commonly call love is truly love at all, or whether it is Kāma wearing the mask of romance, family, or even spirituality. Then, drawing from Indian scriptures and bhakti traditions, and supported by astrological symbolism, we will attempt to trace the passage from transient, desire-based attachment toward a love that is pure because it is grounded in the eternal—whether we name that ground Ātman, Brahmn, or Bhagavān.

Distinguishing Kāma from Prema

Indian traditions rarely dismiss love; instead, they dissect it with great precision. A central distinction is drawn between Kāma and Prema. Kāma is desire—sensual attraction, emotional longing, the urge to possess and enjoy. It is not condemned outright; classical Hindu thought even recognizes Kāma as one of the four puruṣārthas, legitimate aims of human life, alongside Dharma, Artha, and Mokṣa, so long as it is guided by dharma. Yet, Kāma by itself is restless. It burns, consumes, and when frustrated, it easily turns into anger, jealousy, or grief. Its movement is outward and acquisitive: it wants to have the beloved, to secure an “object” that will satisfy an inner lack.

Prema as Transformed Love

Prema, by contrast, is described as a refinement and transfiguration of this same energy. While Kāma seeks fulfillment through taking, Prema finds fulfillment in giving; it does not say, “Love me so that I may be happy” but rather, “Let me love, come what may.” In bhakti literature, prema-bhakti is celebrated as the highest rung of devotion, a state in which the devotee loves God not for protection, reward, or liberation, but simply because the heart overflows and cannot do otherwise. This love is not devoid of emotion. On the contrary, it is intense, even overwhelming, but its centre of gravity has shifted. The “I” is willing to diminish, to efface itself, if only the beloved may be pleased.

Exemplars: Radha-Krishna and Siddhartha-Yasodhara

These ideals find vivid embodiment in two iconic relationships from Indian lore: Radha-Krishna and Siddhartha-Yasodhara, each epitomizing pure, selfless love in distinct yet complementary ways. Radha’s devotion to Krishna represents the pinnacle of prema-bhakti, where love thrives not in unbroken union but intensifies through separation (viyoga). Tradition portrays Radha as the jīva, the individual soul, utterly surrendered to Krishna as the Divine Beloved; her longing is not possessive but a madhura-rasa ecstasy that serves only his līlā, even when he wanders among the gopīs. This love defies logic—it deepens in absence, demands nothing, and persists beyond physical form, mirroring the soul’s eternal craving for the unchanging Paramātman.

Siddhartha’s farewell to Yasodhara in Edwin Arnold’s Light on Asia (Book the Fourth) offers a parallel yet contrasting archetype. Yasodhara awakens to her husband’s renunciation on the eve of their child’s birth, clinging in anguish and pleading, “Take me with thee!” Yet amid her heartbreak, she releases him, sensing his higher dharma; Siddhartha, torn thrice from her side, affirms eternal devotion while choosing universal compassion over personal bliss. Here, love evolves from intimate Kāma—noble yet binding—into selfless Karuṇā, sacrificing throne, family, and marital joy for humanity’s salvation. Both stories reveal Prema not as static perfection but as a transformative fire: Radha’s through ecstatic surrender to the Divine, Yasodhara’s through renunciative letting-go, each freeing the heart from ego’s grip toward the eternal.

Astrological Principles governing Transcending Kāma

Having distinguished Kāma from Prema at the conceptual level, we can now turn to Jyotish to see how certain combinations suggest a native’s potential to move from desire-bound love toward more selfless, inwardly anchored love. These are not mechanical guarantees of pure love but symbolic indications that emotional life is repeatedly drawn toward renunciation, universality or devotion.

(i) Connection of Lagna / Lagna Lord with the twelfth House

When the Lagna or Lagna lord connects strongly with the twelfth house by PAC (Position-Aspect-Conjunction), it subtly reorients the very sense of “I” toward twelfth house domains: loss, withdrawal, solitude, bed-pleasures, foreignness, and ultimately mokṣa. The ego does not find its centre only in the visible social identity; it is repeatedly pulled toward experiences of letting go. In the context of love, this can manifest as:

• A life pattern where relationships trigger sacrifice, separation, or spiritual turning points.

• An inner temperament that cannot remain satisfied with purely worldly bonding; the native feels drawn to silence, retreat, or devotional practices, often through relational crises.

Such a configuration can surely express as escapism or secret affairs at a lower octave, but at a higher octave it supports dissolving rigid ego boundaries and discovering a love that survives loss.

(ii) Connection of fifth House / Lord with the twelfth House / Lord

The fifth house rules romance, emotional expression, creativity, and the first blossoming of love; the twelfth, as noted, rules dissolution and transcendence. When the fifth house or its lord connects with the twelfth house or its lord, the field of romance becomes a direct gateway to surrender. One repeatedly experiences:

• Love affairs that lead to deep inner work, foreign or secluded environments, or a conscious renunciation of attachments.

• Intensified private emotional life, where longing for a human beloved easily morphs into longing for the Divine or the unseen.

Here, Kāma is not bypassed but used as raw material. The sweetness and pain of the fifth house feed the twelfth house’s appetite for release; what begins as romantic drama can mature into genuine Bhakti, especially if supported by benefics and a strong Jupiter.

(iii) Connection of Moon with Saturn

The Moon is the mind, heart, and capacity to receive and nourish; Saturn is limitation, time, detachment, and the stark truth of impermanence. When Moon and Saturn are closely connected (conjunction, aspect, Saturn in Moon’s sign or vice versa), the emotional body cannot remain naive. Love is confronted early with separation, responsibility, or disappointment. This may create:

• A serious, cautious approach to intimacy, with deep empathy for suffering.

• Emotional maturation through loss—widowhood, long-distance bonds, caring for the sick or old, or unrequited love.

At a wounded level, Moon–Saturn can produce fear and inhibition in love. But when integrated, it grants the capacity to love realistically, patiently, and steadfastly, without the illusions of perpetual pleasure. It supports a more sober, compassionate form of love that understands time and still chooses commitment, very close to the ethical texture of Prema.

(iv) Connection of Rahu with the twelfth House

Rahu magnifies and obsesses; the twelfth dissolves. When Rahu is linked to the twelfth house, the soul is magnetized toward experiences of boundary-crossing—foreign lands, altered states, secret relationships, or mystical exploration. In the realm of love, this can indicate:

• Intense fascination with hidden or taboo relationships, or with partners from very different cultures or backgrounds.

• Powerful urges toward retreat, spiritual experimentation, or transcendental states that are awakened through relationships or sexuality.

At the shadow level, this can give escapism, addiction, or entanglement in clandestine affairs. At the higher level, Rahu’s hunger pushes the native beyond conventional romantic scripts into direct confrontation with the impermanence and depth of experience. Properly channeled, Rahu in or linked to the twelfth can convert obsessive longing into spiritual yearning, a classic path from distorted Kāma into transformative Prema. It is the karaka for Vairagya (non-attachment).

(v) Venus in Exaltation, Mooltrikona, Own House, or Vargottama

Venus is the natural significator of love, attraction, beauty, and relationship harmony. When Venus is exalted, in mooltrikona, own sign, or vargottama, its essential qualities are strengthened and refined. This often bestows:

• A sophisticated sense of aesthetics and refined capacity to give and receive affection.

• Greater grace, fairness, and reciprocity in relationships; less tendency toward crude or exploitative forms of desire.

A strong Venus does not automatically mean spiritual love; it can also indicate rich sensual enjoyment. But in a chart already oriented toward dharma and mokṣa (strong 9th/12th, Jupiter, etc.), such a Venus becomes an instrument of higher love: the person can express affection beautifully, value loyalty, and sustain harmony. Venus’s natural urge to relate becomes more sattvic, making it easier for the heart to evolve from pleasure-seeking to genuine, considerate devotion.

(vi) Venus in Kendra or Kona from Jupiter

The relationship between Venus and Jupiter is crucial for understanding how love and wisdom interact. When Venus is in a Kendra (1, 4, 7, or 10) or Kona (5,9) from Jupiter, their mutual influence is strong and often auspicious. Jupiter, as Guru and Dharma, blesses Venus’s domain of love with meaning, ethics, and a spiritual frame. This can yield:

• Relationships that become vehicles of growth, learning, and dharmic responsibility rather than mere enjoyment.

• A tendency to seek partners who share values, spiritual interests, or a larger purpose, and to give love within moral and religious boundaries.

In such charts, love is more likely to follow principles: fidelity, fairness, care for the partner’s welfare, and respect for sacred vows. Jupiter’s presence keeps Venus from degenerating into indulgent kāma and encourages its flowering as considerate, principled love. This is one of the clearer signatures that romantic life can be aligned with Prema-Bhakti—devotion expressed through the human relationship itself.

Now, let us go through some of the examples:

We will take three examples of Shri Ramakrishna, Maa Anandamayee, and a pious lady.

(i) Shri Ramakrishna’s birth details: Born on 18 February 1836 at 05:15 hrs; Longitude: 88deg24mi East; Latitude: 22deg14mi North; Ayanamsa used: Lahiri

In Shri Ramakrishna’s chart, the overall structure itself is tilted toward self-effacement and God-intoxication rather than ordinary relational fulfilment. The Lagna lord Saturn sits powerfully in the tenth house, exalted by sign, and receives the aspect of the twelfth lord Jupiter from the sixth; at the same time, Saturn aspects the twelfth house. This Lagna–twelfth linkage shows that the very sense of “I” (Lagna) is constantly drawn toward twelfth‑house themes—loss of conventional identity, withdrawal from the world, and immersion in the transcendent. The presence of Mars, lord of the fourth and eleventh, in the Lagna gives great inner intensity and passion, but that passion is offered up through Saturn–Jupiter’s pull toward service and renunciation rather than channelled into worldly acquisition.

Venus, the natural karaka of love and attraction, is exalted and also placed in a kendra from Jupiter. In lived terms, this means the capacity for love, beauty, and aesthetic rapture is both refined and guided by a strong dharmic intelligence. Love is not denied; it is spiritualised. Venus exalted allows for deep emotional and aesthetic sensitivity—hence his susceptibility to kirtan and devotional music—while Jupiter’s kendric relationship lifts this Venus out of mere kāma into bhakti, aligning the heart’s longing with a higher purpose. The Moon, placed in Saturn’s sign and conjoined the eighth and ninth lord, and further aspected by Jupiter, again shows a mind steeped in seriousness, mysticism, and dharma. The Moon–Saturn connection (Moon in Saturn’s sign, Saturn exalted) confronts the heart early with limitation and the mystery of death (eighth lord), producing not cynicism but that peculiar tenderness one finds in great saints: a love that is both grave and overflowing.

Although there is no direct fifth–twelfth house lord linkage, Jupiter’s retrogression and its connection to Rahu indicate an inner life of extraordinary intensity, with the Guru principle (Jupiter) working through unusual, even socially transgressive, spiritual experiments. Ramakrishna’s madness of love for Mother Kali—forgetting his own name, falling into samādhi at the mere sight of a sacred image or the sound of a song—reads in this chart as Venus–Jupiter bhakti, lagna–twelfth orientation, and Moon’s deep receptivity to Saturn–Jupiter’s higher currents. What might have been ordinary relational passion in another life becomes, here, an all‑consuming prema directed toward the Divine Mother and, through her, to all beings. His relationship with disciples, especially Vivekananda, likewise reflects exalted Venus under Jupiter’s grace: fiercely personal, tender, yet always pointing beyond personal attachment to the realization of the Self.

Maa Anandamayee’s chart displays, even more starkly, the signatures of love transformed into universal motherhood. Here the Lagna lord is exalted in the fifth house and aspected by an exalted twelfth lord from the eighth. The very agency of the person (Lagna lord) is rooted in the house of love, joy, and divine play (fifth), but that love is constantly bathed in the currents of the twelfth (mokṣa, dissolution) and the eighth (mystery, death, transformation). The exalted twelfth lord’s aspect to both the fifth house and fifth lord forges a direct highway from romantic, creative, childlike love to the domain of total surrender. In such a configuration, love almost cannot remain small or possessive; it is continually invited to become sacrificial, other‑worldly, or God‑drunk.

Rahu in the twelfth house conjoined the ninth lord intensifies this movement. The insatiable, boundary‑breaking hunger of Rahu is grafted onto the house of liberation and joined to the planet of dharma and higher wisdom. This suggests a soul irresistibly drawn to transcend ordinary norms, to seek the Infinite in seclusion, samādhi, and ceaseless pilgrimage, while radiating grace to seekers. Human relationship, in this pattern, becomes the field through which vast, unconventional compassion pours rather than a space for private satisfaction. Her famed habit of treating every devotee as her own child, cutting across caste, gender, and background, mirrors this Rahu‑12–9 combination: love that breaks boundaries yet remains rooted in dharma.

Moon aspected by retrograde Saturn from the eighth gives, again, the deep seriousness and detachment that prevent this overflowing love from dissolving into sentimentality. The emotional body has looked into the abyss—suffering, impermanence, the hidden workings of karma—and therefore can love with both softness and restraint. Venus exalted in the Lagna, aspected by Jupiter and placed in a trine (kona) from it, crowns the picture. Here, the very face and presence of the person (Lagna) is Venusian: suffused with beauty, sweetness, and affection. But because Venus receives Jupiter’s aspect and stands in a harmonious relationship, that sweetness is constantly informed by wisdom and a sense of the sacred. Love is expressed effortlessly, attractively, and yet with a natural orientation toward devotion and upliftment.

In her life, these combinations manifested as a seamless fusion of intimate and transcendent love: she could joke and fuss like a village mother over a devotee’s health, and in the next breath dissolve into God‑consciousness, seeing no one as separate from the Beloved within. Here kāma has been so thoroughly transfigured that what remains is almost pure prema-bhakti—love that neither clings nor excludes, that rests in the eternal while embracing the fleeting with infinite kindness.

(iii) The pious lady birth details: Born on 13 November 1962 at 09:56:00 hrs; Longitude-88deg22mi East; Latitude: 22deg34mi North; Ayanamsa used: Lahiri

In this chart, the astrological grammar of transcendence operates through the crucible of human struggle, transforming relational longing into pure devotional service. The lagna lord is aspected by the twelfth lord from the eighth house, drawing her core identity into repeated encounters with loss, upheaval, and spiritual initiation—those “tough times” that tested her resilience yet ultimately oriented her toward surrender and inner freedom. Here, the fifth and twelfth houses share the same lord, Mars, placed in the eighth. What might begin as personal emotional bonds inevitably ripens into selfless offering, as seen in her total immersion in the “bhakti sagar” now wholly committed to the seva of small Gopal ji.

Rahu’s conjunction with the twelfth lord in the eighth amplifies this trajectory, infusing an obsessive, boundary-breaking intensity into hidden spiritual depths; life’s upheavals become the forge where worldly attachments burn away, leaving only hunger for the Divine Child. Notably, her Moon stands exalted and vargottama, unburdened by Saturn’s aspect—granting a pure, steady emotional foundation resilient enough to sustain endless seva without emotional exhaustion. Venus in its mooltrikona sign, further placed in a kona from Jupiter, ensures that her innate capacity for love and harmony is both strong and dharmically guided; affection flows naturally toward the sacred, untainted by Kāma’s possessiveness.

Through trials that mirrored the eighth house’s sudden ruptures, this chart’s principles converged to elevate her from human relational dramas toward an everyday sanctity: Gopal ji’s tiny form now receives the fullness of her heart, in a devotion that echoes the saints yet unfolds in quiet domesticity. Her story illustrates how these same six signatures—potent in Shri Ramakrishna’s ecstasy and Maa Anandamayee’s universality—manifest accessibly in ordinary lives, refining Kāma into Prema through lived surrender.

We began by questioning whether true love exists beyond the mind’s shimmering projections—a force either ultimate or illusory, shaped by Māyā’s play of nāma-rūpa. Modern romance, with its vows of “forever” amid serial attachments, seemed to mirror Kāma’s restless dance: beautiful yet fragile, acquisitive under time’s regime. Indian traditions, however, unveiled prema-bhakti as love’s higher octave—selfless, expansive, rooted not in lack but in the Self or Divine, fulfilling itself through giving rather than grasping.

The distinction sharpened through exemplars: Radha’s viyoga-rasa ecstasy for Krishna, Yasodhara’s renunciative release of Siddhartha, each transmuting personal longing into cosmic karuṇā. Vedic astrology then mapped this journey symbolically—Lagna–twelfth pulls toward surrender, fifth–twelfth fusions elevating romance to devotion, Moon–Saturn maturity, Rahu’s boundary-breaking hunger, high position of Venus, and Venus refined by Jupiter’s grace. In the charts of Shri Ramakrishna, Maa Anandamayee, and this pious lady, these principles revealed a soul’s ripening: ecstatic God-madness, universal motherhood, everyday Gopal-seva born from trials. Kāma’s fire, tested by eighth-house crucibles and twelfth-house dissolution, emerged as luminous Prema.

Thus, eternal love proves no mere notion but an attainable consciousness—discernible in shastra, embodied in saints, traceable in stars. It asks not unbroken bliss but steadfast offering: to love through change, seeing the Beloved in every form, until the heart rests in what endures.

Introduction

“In the Ocean of Consciousness, We All are dreaming a Dreamer’s Dream”.

The Mandukya Upanishad, one of Vedanta’s shortest and most profound texts, teaches that “the present life is nothing but a dream, either good or bad, based upon our past experiences and karmas.” This ancient wisdom provides the perfect philosophical foundation for understanding the Dasa system, which is Vedic astrology’s most sophisticated tool for decoding the nature and timing of life events. When we unite the Mandukya Upanishad’s four (three to be precise as Turiya is not a state but beyond any state) states of consciousness with the Dasa system’s cosmic timing, we discover a coherent framework for understanding human experience that bridges abstract philosophical truth and practical life guidance.

The Four States of Consciousness

The Mandukya Upanishad presents consciousness or ‘Brahmn’ through four states corresponding to the sacred syllable OM (AUM):

Jagrat: The Waking State

जागरितस्थानो बहिष्प्रज्ञः सप्ताङ्ग एकोनविंशतिमुखः स्थूलभुग्वैश्वानरः प्रथमः पादः॥३॥[1]

Jagrat (the waking state) is outward-knowing, gross, and universal. Here, the consciousness (Brahmn) identifies with the physical body and external objects. The ego-sense is strongest; we assume ourselves to be doers and achievers. The world appears fundamentally real and separate. Yet the Upanishad reveals a radical truth: the waking state is ultimately as illusory as a dream is to the waker. The difference lies only in duration and continuity. Just as a long dream seems more real than a short dream, the waking world seems real only while we inhabit it.

Svapna: The Dream State

स्वप्नस्थानोऽन्तःप्रज्ञः सप्ताङ्ग एकोनविंशतिमुखः प्रविविक्तभुक् तैजसो द्वितीयः पादः॥४॥[2]

In Svapna (the dream state), consciousness turns inward, experiencing subtle mental projections. The mind becomes the architect of its world; what appears external is the mind’s own creation. The Mandukya Upanishad reveals that dream objects appear real due to three factors: Avidya (ignorance), Kama (desire), and Karma (action). This principle applies equally to waking life. The situations we encounter are crystallizations of our accumulated past karma, manifestations of our desires and Vasanas (subtle tendencies), and expressions of fundamental ignorance about our true nature. Before we experience an event in waking life, it exists first as a subtle intention or karmic pattern in the mind.

Sushupti: The Deep Sleep State

यत्र सुप्तो न कञ्चन कामं कामयते न कञ्चन स्वप्नं पश्यति तत् सुषुप्तम्।
सुषुप्तस्थान एकीभूतः प्रज्ञानघन एवाऽऽनन्दमयो ह्यानन्दभुक् चेतोमुखः प्राज्ञस्तृतीयः पादः॥५॥[3]

Sushupti (deep sleep) is characterized by the absence of external perception and internal mental modifications. Here, all individual experiences dissolve into undifferentiated consciousness—blissful yet ignorant. The ego appears to dissolve, yet the individual self has merely withdrawn into a Karana Sharira (potential state), from which it will re-emerge upon waking. This state represents consciousness in potential, not in its fullest realization.

Turiya: The Transcendent State

एष सर्वेश्वरः एष सर्वज्ञ एषोऽन्तर्याम्येष योनिः सर्वस्य प्रभवाप्ययौ हि भूतानाम्॥६॥[4]

Turiya, the fourth state, is the eternal witness of all three states—pure, unchanging consciousness beyond perception and cognitive activity. Turiya is not experienced sequentially but is the eternal substratum underlying all phenomena. Like a movie screen unaffected by brilliant colours or complete darkness, Turiya remains eternally unmodified by the play of waking, dream, and sleep. The Mandukya Upanishad asserts: Turiya is not a state but Reality alone; the three states are mere appearances. When one awakens to this truth, all suffering dissolves.

The Dasa System: Cosmic Timing of Destiny

The Dasa System is Vedic astrology’s precise mechanism for understanding how Karma unfolds through time. Among the many Dasa systems existing, the Vimsottari Dasa system is most widely used. The Vimsottari Dasa divides a 120-year lifespan into nine major planetary MahaDasas (periods):

• Ketu (7 years)

• Venus (20 years)

• Sun (6 years)

• Moon (10 years)

• Mars (7 years)

• Rahu (18 years)

• Jupiter (16 years)

• Saturn (19 years)

• Mercury (17 years)

The starting Dasa is determined by an individual’s birth Nakshatra (lunar mansion). Each MahaDasa activates specific karmic patterns and unfolds the fruits of past actions according to cosmic law. Each planetary period carries distinct archetypal themes.

The Dasa system operates as a sacred schedule for Karma fructification or unfolding the dream. It is neither random chance nor mechanical determinism but lawful cause-and-effect across time. Before experiencing an event externally, it exists encoded in consciousness and the birth chart. The Dasa provides the temporal context for its manifestation.

The Two Dreams: Practical Application

The Good Dream

Chart-I: Male: Born January 3, 1987 at 11 hr. 56 m. at 11N 50, 75N 34 with a balance of 2 years 1 month 12 days of Mars Dasa at birth

Here the jiva enters the world with Mars MahaDasa as 9^th lord in Lagna setting a dharmic backdrop, and soon slips into a long Jupiter period. In this “good dream”, Jupiter—the significator of learning, grace and expansion—quietly supplies the script, while the person, convinced “I am the doer,” experiences each scene as hard reality.

Under Jupiter–Jupiter (2007) the mind “walks” into a university hall and receives a degree in Economics; Jupiter–Saturn (2010) tightens discipline and produces post‑graduation; Jupiter–Mercury (2012–13) paints interview rooms, appointment letters, RBI, and then Group‑A service. Jupiter–Venus (2015–16) decorates the dream with a wedding mandapa and the birth of a daughter; Jupiter–Sun (2018) projects a promotion order and public recognition. All this looks like linear success in the waking world, but from the Mandukya standpoint it is inner karma, desire and effort crystallizing as outer images during a benefic Dasa, just as the dream mind constructs its world from samskaras.

In 2023 the texture of the dream changes as Saturn MahaDasa begins. Outwardly, a successful officer decides to leave a prestigious post and become an Assistant Professor. Inwardly, a new planetary director takes charge: Saturn, lord of time and responsibility, draws out latent samskaras of vidya, tapas and service, replacing Jupiter’s script of expansion with a more austere narrative of consolidation and teaching.

As Gaudapada and the Mandukya tradition insist, the waking world and the dream world share the same structure: both are mind‑created, both are driven by ignorance, desire and karma, and both are valid only until a higher awakening reveals them as appearances in consciousness.

In each scene the jiva feels, “I am studying, I am joining RBI, I am clearing the exam, I am marrying, I am getting promoted, I am resigning”, yet in truth it is the interplay of past karma and current Dasa painting experiences on the screen of awareness. The Mandukya Upanishad’s insight then becomes vivid: even in so‑called waking life, we are dreaming with eyes open, and the Dasa system shows the grammar by which that long, law‑governed dream is composed.

Dasa Sequence

1. Born in the MahaDasa of Mars (9^th Lord placed in the Lagna) till 13-02-1989 and the AntarDasa Lord being Ketu (in the 7^th House aspected by 9^th Lord);

2. Rahu MahaDasa (till 13-02-2007): Posited in the Lagna with the 9^th Lord;

3. Jupiter MahaDasa (till 13-02-2023): The Lagna Lord as also the 10^th Lord posited in the 12^th House with Moon, the 5^th Lord;

4. Saturn MahaDasa (began from 14-02-2023): The Lord of Trishadaya as well as Trik Bhava, posited in the 9^th House with another Trik as also Trishadaya Lord, Venus. It is 22^nd Dreskana as well as 64^th Navamsa Lord too.

The Bad Dream

This jiva enters life with Moon and Mars already imprinting sensitivity and ambition, but the long Rahu MahaDasa soon takes command. In this dream, Rahu—the planet of craving, confusion and breaking norms—projects a restless inner world: the girl is bright and versatile, especially in music, yet during Rahu she suddenly loses interest in studies and doesn’t pursue any further, and parental indifference blocks her singing prospects. What looks outwardly like lack of guidance is, in the Mandukya sense, karma, desire and ignorance shaping the dream from within, exactly as the Upanishad says dream objects arise from Avidya, Kama and Karma.

Rahu’s script does give big‑looking scenes: marriage in Rahu–Saturn (1984), a son in Rahu–Mercury (1986). But the underlying tone is struggle—hopes that never quite crystallize, talents that do not get a stage, a life that feels “full of struggle” despite clear ability.

Then, after years of this restless dream, the lighting shifts as Saturn MahaDasa begins. The outer story simply notes: “After the onset of Saturn Dasa, things took a better turn.”

From the Mandukya standpoint, this life too is a sequence of dream‑scenes in the waking state: a gifted child, missed chances, a difficult marriage, eventual improvement under Saturn. Each scene feels solid only within its own “state,” just as dream‑water feels real to the dreamer but is recognized as mere mind when one wakes. Rahu and then Saturn simply provide different karmic palettes with which the inner mind paints its world.

Dasa Sequence

1. Born in the MahaDasa of Moon (8^th Lord placed in the 6^th House being exalted and Vargottama) till 11-07-1969 and the AntarDasa Lord being Jupiter (Lagna Lord being posited in the 3^rd House aspected by 5^th & 12^th Lord, Mars from the 8^th House);

2. Mars MahaDasa (till 11-07-1976): 5^th & 12^th Lord being posited in the 8^th House in the Rahu-Ketu and aspected by Saturn, the Trishadaya Lord;

3. Rahu MahaDasa (till 11-07-1994): Posited with the 5^th & 12^th Lord, Mars in the 8^th House and aspected by Saturn;

4. Jupiter MahaDasa (till 11-07-2010): The Lagna Lord as also the 4^th Lord posited in the 3^rd House aspected by the 5^th & 12^th Lord, Mars from the 8^th House;

5. Saturn MahaDasa (began from 12-07-2010): 2^nd and 3^rd Lord posited in own house in the Rahu-Ketu axis and aspected by the 5^th & 12^th Lord, Mars from the 8^th House. Currently Saturn-Rahu is operating.

The Wisdom

Both lives received their appropriate Dasas suited to their karmic requirements. In both these “bad dream” and the “good dream”, the underlying truth is the same: we are dreaming with open eyes, and the Dasa system shows the precise order in which those karmic dreams unfold.

Synthesis: Awakening Within the Dream

When we understand deeply, we no longer desperately cling to favourable Dasas or frantically resist difficult ones. We recognize each Dasa, whether bringing ease or difficulty, is an opportunity to deepen wisdom and awaken from the dream of separateness.

The Dasa system is not meant to bind us to fatalism but to free us from unconscious reactivity. By understanding cosmic timing and karma, we become liberated from anxiety about controlling the uncontrollable and can focus on conscious response and evolution.

The ultimate liberation is not escape from Dasas but awakening within them, recognizing that the dreamer of this cosmic dream, the dream itself, and the dreaming are expressions of one unified consciousness. This recognition that only consciousness exists, appearing as infinite diversity yet eternally one, is Turiya consciousness, available in every moment, in every Dasa, to awareness that awakens.

Prastāvudita-astamitau śārada-dhānya-avanīśvara-kṣaye |

Sarva-grasto durbhikṣa-maraka-dau pāpa-sandṛṣṭo ||27||

Summary Meaning:

If the eclipse should occur at the rising or setting of the luminaries during the autumn, then the autumn crops (Śarat season, around October–November) will perish and the rulers of the earth will suffer. If the Sun or Moon is totally eclipsed and aspected by malefic planets, there will be famine and pestilence (death and misery) throughout the land.

Now the question arises: Is it applicable for winter crops too? We will have to see. Please note that Rabi crops are harvested during March-April. On the second part, it says that the ruler of the earth will suffer. India will be running the Vimsottari Dasha of Mars-Rahu, Jaimini Chara Dasha of Aquarius-Sagittarius, and progressive Yogini Dasha of Bhramari-Dhanya in the nakshatra of Poorvabhadrapada. In my earlier articles I have mentioned that all the 3 Dashas are not conducive from the Indian perspective. So, automatically the next question that comes to our mind is: Will it be a bad period for the Head of the State?

2. Both the eclipses are occurring in the Aquarius sign. Let’s see what Varamihira had stated in Verse 42 of Rāhu Adhyāya (Bṛhat Saṁhitā):

कुम्भे जना गिरिजनाः पशुजनमाना भारोद्धतास्तस्कराः

नाभीरान्द्रदयार्थसङ्ग्रहमुखाः न्यस्ता तथा बर्बराः।

मीनं सागरकूलसागरजलद्व्यापारजनान् व्ययान्

प्राज्ञान् द्युपजिविनश्च भफलं कूर्मोपदेशाद् वदेत्॥४२॥

Kumbhe janā girijanāḥ paśujanamānā bhāroddhatāstaskarāḥ

Nābhīrāndra-dayārtha-saṅgraha-mukhāḥ nyastā tathā barbarāḥ।

Mīnaṁ sāgara-kūla-sāgara-jala-vyāpāra-janān vyayān

Prājñān dyupajīvinaś ca bhaphalaṁ kūrmopadeśād vadet॥42॥

Summary Meaning:

If an eclipse occurs when the Moon or Sun is in Aquarius (Kumbha): Hill people, shepherds, carriers, robbers, people of Nābhīra and Āndhra, those involved in charity or collecting wealth, and foreign tribes (Barbaras) will suffer.

If it occurs when in Pisces (Meena): People living near the sea, those engaged in marine trade, scholars, intellectuals, and those who earn their living through knowledge will face losses.

The regional effects should be judged according to the Kurma Chakra (Kurma Vibhāga).

Here I would tell you to note that the present-day region of central and north-western Maharashtra is denoted by Nābhīra region, while the coastal and central Andhra Pradesh (Krishna-Godavari basin) is denoted by Āndhra region.

3. Now note that during the lunar eclipse as well as solar eclipse, the Mercury is also conjunct and getting eclipsed. In fact, it gets retrograde during lunar eclipse. Verse 65 of Rāhu Adhyāya (Bṛhat Saṁhitā) states that:

अन्तर्वेदी सरयू नेपालः पूर्वसागरं शोणम् ।

स्त्रीनृपयोधकुमारास्नो विद्वद्भिर्भिध्यते हन्ति ॥ ६५ ॥

Antarvedī Sarayū Nepālaḥ Pūrvasāgaraḥ Śoṇaḥ |

Strī-nṛpa-yodha-kumāra-asnaḥ vidvadbhiḥ bhidhyate hanti ||65||

Summary Meaning:

If Mercury (Budha) should be eclipsed by Rāhu, the people living between the Ganges and the Yamuna (Antarvedi), on the banks of the Sarayu, in the land of Nepal, near the eastern sea, and along the river Sona will suffer. Women, kings, warriors, princes, and learned men will perish.

It may be noted that in the earlier lunar eclipse (Blood Moon), Mercury was also eclipsed and we have seen what happened in Nepal. The learners of Jyotish should exercise caution while giving any prediction based on a single aphorism. The chief astrological factors should always be examined in detail, as eclipses mainly act as triggers for unfolding events rather than being the primary cause themselves. So, the next question that automatically comes to our mind: Is it going to happen again in Nepal? Or is it somewhere else? We will see.

4.1 Let’s correlate the said verses mentioned in Para 1, 2 & 3. It says that the king will suffer and the subjects in the region of Nābhīra and Āndhra will suffer. Verse 65 mentions about the eastern sea. We can take this as the east coast or coastal region near Bay of Bengal.

4.2 We are already witnessing that the Naxalite movement is on the verge of collapse, with major leaders surrendering and coming to mainstream. So, we may infer that the barbaric people or tribesmen will be suffering; we may see the end of Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) nearing.

4.3 Now let us have a look at both the Solar Eclipse and Lunar Eclipse charts:

(a) In the Partial Solar Eclipse chart, we can see that the Lagna Lord is in Papakartari Yoga and simultaneously afflicted by Trik lords. Similar is the condition for second and fourth lord. The Lagna Lord is neecha with Mars afflicting it in the Navamsha chart and the Lagna Lord of Navamsha chart is in the Trik Bhava and afflicted by Mars. The second and fourth lord of D1 is also afflicted. The tenth Lord is exalted and well placed in the seventh house, but the position becomes somewhat precarious in D9. It is placed in the eighth house but with the Navamsha Lagna Lord. Two interesting features in the chart are: (i) Venus and Rahu are very close to each other and; (ii) The longitude of Lagna and Mercury here matches with the longitude of Venus in the Muhurta chart for India.

(b) In the Lunar Eclipse chart, the condition of the Lagna Lord is more or less similar. The tenth lord has gone to the eighth house and is deeply afflicted. In D9 chart the tenth lord, although in his own house, is afflicted by retrograde fifth and eighth lord. Saturn being the LL and twelfth lord is afflicting it from the eighth. The fourth lord is exalted in the ninth house with eighth lord. It has gone to inimical sign in D9. Fifth lord is also in no good position in both D1 and D9.

Conclusion:

From the astrological indications stated above and the given Dasha condition, the forthcoming period may pose certain challenges for those in positions of leadership, as well as for the general populace. The secret enemies would become active. There may also be developments concerning land, natural resources, or sectors such as mining, which could call for careful observation and prudent management.

Historical Background

• The formulation of FREE WILL in its current sense has roots in Christian theology, particularly in addressing the problem of evil: “If God is just and loving, why do people suffer?” FREE WILL is invoked as a theological solution, where suffering results from the misuse of God-given FREE WILL, not directly from God.

• In Indian philosophy, there are the concept of freedom and agentship (Kartrtva), but the notion of FREE WILL is not really present, although it is used in the context of Karma and rebirth.

Arguments Against FREE WILL

• Metaphysical (Deterministic) Argument: Every action is the result of a chain of prior causes. If all events are causally determined, genuine FREE WILL, where one could have acted otherwise, is impossible;

• Religious (Theistic) Argument: If God is omniscient and knows all choices in advance, then human choices cannot be genuinely FREE, as they are already known and fixed;

• Law of Karma: Strict interpretations posit that every action, thought, and decision arises from accumulated past Karma. If every event in one’s life is completely determined by past karma, there can be no true FREE WILL;

• Psychological Determinism: Contemporary science suggests choices are shaped by genetic, environmental, and psychological factors. These influences predetermine behaviour, making FREE WILL an illusion;

• Logico-Semantic Argument: Any proposition about future actions is already TRUE OR FALSE, just unknown to us. This linguistic framing undermines the possibility of genuine FREEDOM;

• Neuroscientific Evidence: Experiments (such as those of Benjamin Libet) show brain activity indicating decisions before conscious awareness of having made them, suggesting “FREE WILL” is an afterthought, not an actual faculty.

Arguments in favour of FREE WILL

• Introspection: Just as reports of pain are accepted as truthful, one's report of experiencing FREE WILL should be considered real;

• Contrast between Compulsion and Volition: People recognize the difference between being forced and choosing FREELY, which suggests there is a meaningful distinction and offers experiential evidence of FREE WILL;

• Ethical Appraisal: Legal and moral systems rely on assumptions of FREE WILL. Without genuine FREEDOM, praise, blame, and punishment lose their justifications;

• Pragmatic Self-Refutation: Arguments against FREE WILL seem to tacitly presume FREE WILL in their urging (“you should be convinced”), creating a logical tension.

Theodicy and FREE WILL

Theodicy refers to the philosophical and theological effort to justify or defend the goodness and omnipotence of God in the face of the existence of evil and suffering in the world. The term comes from the Greek words theos (God) and dike (justice), literally meaning “justifying GOD” and was first coined by the philosopher Gottfried Leibniz in 1710. Leibniz’s concept of theodicy had a profound and lasting influence on modern philosophy, shaping discussions about the problem of evil, free will, and the rational justification of God’s ways.

• Formalized the Problem of Evil: Leibniz coined the term “Theodicy” and provided the first systematic attempt to reconcile the existence of evil with an omnipotent, omniscient, and benevolent GOD. This clarified the problem of evil and set the terms for future debate;

• FREE WILL and Evil: Leibniz’s Theodicy emphasized human FREE WILL as a partial explanation for evil: God permits evil for the sake of greater goods that depend on FREE WILL, such as moral responsibility and virtue;

• Critiques and Developments: Later philosophers, like Voltaire (notably in his satire CANDIDE), challenged Leibniz’s optimism and the adequacy of Theodicy. David Hume and Immanuel Kant critiqued the possibility of justifying God’s ways based on limited human understanding.

Views from Bhagavad Gita

The diverse arguments against the idea of FREE WILL mentioned earlier converge towards a deterministic worldview, and the Bhagavad Gita have already asserted similar claims—Nature (Prakrti) does all work and the Conscious Self mistakenly imagines itself as the Doer.

“Prakrtiḥ kriyamāṇāni guṇaiḥ karmāṇi sarvaśaḥ |
ahaṅkāra-vimūḍhātmā kartāham iti manyate ||” (Chapter 3, Verse 27)

Prakrti alone does all work; the deluded ego imagines itself as the doer.

“Prakṛtyaiva ca karmāṇi kriyamāṇāni sarvaśaḥ |
yaḥ paśyati tathātmānam akartāraṁ sa paśyati ||” (Chapter 13, Verse 29)

The true seer realizes that Nature (Prakrti) alone is the performer of actions and understands the self as the non-doer (Witness).

“Na anyaṁ guṇebhyaḥ kartāraṁ yadā draṣṭānupaśyati |
guṇebhyaś ca paraṁ vetti madbhāvaṁ so ’dhigacchati ||” (Chapter 14, Verse 19)

When one sees that actions are only done by nature’s qualities (gunas), and recognizes the self as distinct from actions, authentic realization is achieved.

Vedantic and Shree Ramakrishna’s View

• Shree Ramakrishna holds that “GOD alone does Everything” and that human beings are “MACHINES” operated by THE DIVINE. The notion of FREE WILL is described as implanted by God so that individuals may act ethically, but ultimately, realized souls see that all action stems from God;

• The popular analogy is that of a cow tied to a rope—it has FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT within the circle described by the rope, but is ultimately tethered, symbolizing LIMITED BUT NOT ABSOLUTE FREEDOM;

• Shree Ramakrishna also distinguishes between IGNORANCE (believing oneself to be partly responsible along with GOD) and REALIZATION (knowing GOD is the sole operator);

• Debate among devotees (such as Shree Girish Ghosh and Dr. Mahendranath Sarkar) illustrates varied positions—some argue for partial FREEDOM, while Shree Ramakrishna insists on ultimate DIVINE agency masquerading as FREE WILL. In fact, somewhere during this conversation in The Gospel of Shree Ramakrishna, when the topic of FREE WILL is being discussed, HE says, “Is this FREE WILL some English concept?”

Final Reflections

This topic on FREE WILL is left open as both a philosophical puzzle and a spiritual discipline, leaning towards the Vedantic conclusion that self-identification as the “Doer” is a product of IGNORANCE; true FREEDOM is realized in recognizing oneself as a WITNESSING CONSCIOUSNESS beyond Causality.

The Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, also known as the Third India-Pakistan War, was an armed conflict that erupted during the Bangladesh Liberation War in East Pakistan. It lasted from December 3, 1971, until Pakistan’s surrender in Dhaka on December 16, 1971. The war began with Pakistan’s pre-emptive air strikes, codenamed Operation Chengiz Khan, targeting eight Indian airbases. These attacks prompted India to formally declare war on Pakistan, aligning with Bengali nationalist forces in their fight for East Pakistan’s independence. The conflict escalated rapidly, with intense battles unfolding on both the eastern (Bangladesh) and western (India-Pakistan border) fronts.

Within 13 days, India secured a decisive victory. On December 16, Pakistan’s Eastern Command signed the instrument of surrender in Dhaka, leading to the birth of Bangladesh as an independent nation. The Indian Army captured approximately 93,000 Pakistani prisoners, including 79,676 to 81,000 military personnel—among them Bengali soldiers loyal to Pakistan. The remaining 10,324 to 12,500 detainees were civilians, comprising family members of military personnel or local collaborators (Razakars). This conflict marked a pivotal shift in South Asia’s geopolitical landscape.

Jaimini Dasha

The Jaimini Dasha sequence was Sagittarius-Virgo-Cancer. It has been already discussed earlier in Series I about how the sixth house can result in border skirmishes, while the seventh leads to open warfare. The seventh from Sagittarius contains GK, which is aspecting it too. Virgo receives aspect from Mars, the GK. It is seventh from Karakamsha too, suggesting strife between the two nations. Cancer is eighth from Sagittarius and contains DK. It may be noted that the fourth from the Dasha sign, whatever it may be, is afflicted. It means that the outcome was satisfactory, although a thumping win was registered by India.

In the D6 divisional chart, Sagittarius is eighth from GK, however, aspected by AK and AmK. Mercury has relation with the 64 Navamsha and Sagittarius is the 22 Dreshkana house. Sagittarius is aspected by its Lord too. Moreover, there is exchange between AmK and PK. A look at the D6 chart from the KL gives an idea about the reason India is being perturbed by its adversaries.

Note: Jupiter (AmK) is giving very strong Argala for Sagittarius. Also Virgo is getting Argala from Jupiter.

As may be seen, Cancer is heavily afflicted by GK, DK, and the nodes. However, the AK and AmK are aspecting Cancer too.

श्रीभगवान्  उवाच:  संन्यासः कर्मयोगश्च निःश्रेयसकरावुभौ |तयोस्तु कर्मसंन्यासात् कर्मयोगो विशिष्यते ||

Sri Bhagavan said:‘Both renunciation and Yoga of action lead to freedom of these, the Yoga of action is superior to the renunciation of action.’ There is no equivocation of this sentence, but we as a people have tried to find equivocation. What did Sri Krishna say? Sannyasa (संन्यास) and Karma-Yoga (कर्मयोग), ‘renunciation of action to realize the Atman (आत्मा), and the path of detached action in the spirit of Yoga (योग)’ both these are capable of leading one to ‘high spiritual development, nihshreyasa (निःश्रेयस). But, tayostu (तयोस्तु), ‘between the two’; karmasannyasaat karmayogo vishishyate (कर्मसंन्यासात् कर्मयोगो विशिष्यते}.  Karma-Yoga (कर्मयोग) is superior to Karma-Sannyasa (कर्मसंन्यास).

If a Buddha could say so, Sri Krishna says that hundred times more, because his teaching is essentially a teaching of practical spirituality — spirituality in action.

See the language: spirituality in action. Behind every action is spirituality. But it does a double good. It gives me some spiritual strength; it brings peace and solace to people around me. ‘Certainly that is superior’, tayostu karmasannyasaat karmayogo vishishyate (तयोस्तु कर्मसंन्यासात् कर्मयोगो विशिष्यते}. That is the clearest exposition. In the third chapter also Sri Krishna had said, ’Nobody remains without any action; everybody does some action impelled by one’s own nature. Even sitting in meditation is action.’ These are the words Sri Krishna had said at that time. So, better to do action for the good of all. Any ignorant person for fattening one’s own life and career. But the intelligent person, the wise person, the enlightened person, works for the good of all. Why don’t you be then an enlightened person? That came in the third chapter, verse 25, to bring about ‘lokasamgraham’(लोकसंग्रहं) — ‘welfare of the world’. You are a part of the world around you. You can’t neglect all of them and remain quiet in your own way. That is not proper. That is called unenlightened attitude.

The pressure from this axis suggests ongoing instability in diplomatic and overseas partnerships;

o Sun and Venus: The similar degrees of Sun and Venus involving the fourth and lagna, besides the sixth house brings into picture the conflict or unhappiness in the minds of the subjects;

o Mars and Lagna: Similarly, Mars and the Lagna are on similar degrees in this chart. Mars, being the GK, is heavily influential, particularly on the 22nd Dreshkana in India's Muhurta Chart, intensifying risks around disruption, conflict, and abrupt change. Mars, in direct interaction with the ascendant (Lagna), brings issues of national identity and direction to the forefront;

o Mars-Saturn Axis and the Eighth House: This alignment stresses transformation and crisis factors. The eighth house governs sudden upheavals, secrets, and shared resources—suggesting unexpected challenges or revelations impacting India’s underlying stability.

Navamsha Chart: Serious Mercury Affliction

Ø Mercury is placed in the twelfth house alongside Mars and Saturn, exacerbating issues of loss, miscommunication, trade problems, and expenditure;

Ø Jupiter, again under the influence of Rahu-Ketu in the ninth and shadowed by Saturn, signals continued difficulties in foreign affairs and educational, spiritual, or philanthropic endeavors.

The Lunar Eclipse chart (see Figure 3), timed at the start of the penumbral phase, highlights significant astrological tensions affecting India, with the eclipse occurring over the fifth and eleventh houses—forming the 2-8 axis relative to the tenth house—indicating potential disruptions in areas related to creativity, alliances, and finances. Mars and Saturn’s influence on the ninth house along the 6-12 axis adds pressure on matters of destiny, international relations, and higher learning. Mercury, again heavily afflicted in the Navamsha (D9) chart within the second house of trade and communication, is directly involved in the eclipse, amplifying risks of economic instability, miscommunication, and challenges in negotiations.

Outlook:

The above analysis suggests that India may encounter significant challenges on the international stage in the near future. The involvement of the sixth and ninth houses indicates the potential for heightened scrutiny and diplomatic pressures. Kashmir issue will be once again raked up in the international fora. The convergence of malefic influences (especially the Mars-Saturn axis and afflicted Mercury) during the eclipse period suggests India could face intensified turbulence, particularly regarding communication with international partners, commerce, and foreign relations. Mercury’s affliction stands out as critically severe, indicating potential for misunderstandings, trade hurdles, and increased challenges in diplomatic negotiations. Therefore, India is going to face critical challenges in the coming days.

But is the outlook entirely bleak?!

Perhaps, after wandering through the grim corridors of the picture painted above, my readers are seeking a window; any window through which light might spill.

And there is light!

On 4 September this year, India enters the Mars Mahadasha—a fiery cycle I have long foreseen as both crucible and crown. The coming seven years will be our trial by flame, a relentless shaping of spirit and will. Yet from this forge, India will emerge not weakened, but burnished; stronger in sinew, sharper in vision, and beautiful in the resilience born of hardship.

Already the world’s fourth-largest economy, India stands as the fastest-growing major nation, poised to ascend to the third spot in the global order. The challenges ahead will not diminish us—they will define us. And as the tides turn, under the unwavering, decisive hand of Narendra Modi ji, India will not merely weather the storm—she will command it, charting a course that others will follow in awe.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has consistently criticized America's trade relationships, particularly targeting countries like India, China, and the European Union. He argues that the U.S. faces unfair trade deficits due to high foreign tariffs and restrictive barriers. Recently, he claimed, “We have a MASS TRADE DEFICIT WITH INDIA!!!” and labeled India’s trade policies as among the harshest globally. Against this backdrop, the U.S. decision to impose a 25% tariff on Indian exports comes as no surprise—it was likely a matter of time, given Trump’s past remarks.

India’s Strategic Response: Diversification and Resilience

In response to these growing uncertainties, Indian industries have started reshaping their supply chains. Nearly half have adopted geographic diversification strategies, and over a quarter are actively expanding into new markets. This shift reflects India’s participation in the “China Plus One” movement, where global businesses seek alternatives to China, and India emerges as a key beneficiary.

Will India Face Economic Fallout?

The timing of these disruptions raises crucial questions: Why now? How deeply will this affect India’s economy and small businesses? Are we entering a phase of prolonged economic tension?

Astrologically, a significant shift is on the horizon. From 4th September, India enters the Mars Mahadasha. In India’s chart, Mars rules the 7th and 12th houses—houses that signify foreign trade, partnerships, expenses, and losses. Mars is placed in the 2nd house, which deals with national finances, taxation, and trade. This planetary configuration suggests possible setbacks in India’s trade and foreign relations during this period.

Compounding this, Mars is currently transiting through Virgo (since 29 July), casting its influence on Saturn, the ninth lord, which governs overseas connections. The interaction between the 7th and 9th lords during this transit reinforces the likelihood of strained international relations and disruptions in trade.

The Jaimini Perspective: A Deeper Astrological Layer

In the Jaimini system, Mars acts as Gnati Karaka (GK) and is currently transiting the 4th house from Karakamsha Lagna (KL). At the same time, Saturn is transiting over KL, while Amatyakaraka (AmK) is transiting Gemini. The interlinked motion of these key indicators in transit provides further evidence of rising tensions in India's foreign trade environment.

Furthermore, Mars will transit Libra (Kalpurush’s 7th house) after mid-September, crossing over India's natal AmK. This could potentially lead to confrontational or strained developments with foreign trade partners.

This write-up presents a detailed chronological summary of key events and examines the conflict through the lens of Jaimini Astrology’s Chara Dasha system, highlighting how planetary positions aligned with the outbreak, conduct, and conclusion of hostilities. Neutral assessments suggest that India held the upper hand militarily, but international diplomatic pressures forced an early ceasefire, culminating in the Tashkent Agreement. The astrological analysis, supported by planetary conjunctions and divisional charts, reflects the inevitability and complexities of war during the Capricorn Mahadasha period and offers insight into the ambivalent results of the conflict.

The Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, often referred to as the Second Kashmir War, was a major military conflict between India and Pakistan that lasted from August to September 1965. The war was triggered by Pakistan’s failed Operation Gibraltar, which aimed to send infiltrators into Jammu and Kashmir to incite an uprising against Indian administration. Over the course of seventeen days, both nations suffered heavy casualties, and the conflict saw the largest deployment of armored vehicles and the biggest tank battle since World War II. The fighting came to an end after the United Nations Security Council passed Resolution 211, calling for a ceasefire, which was facilitated by diplomatic efforts from the Soviet Union and the United States. This was followed by the signing of the Tashkent Declaration. Jaimini Dasha

On the day of beginning of Operation Gibraltar, the Jaimini Dasha sequence was Capricorn-Virgo-Virgo. It has been already discussed earlier in Series I about how the sixth house can result in border skirmishes, while the seventh leads to open warfare. By the time India launched fierce and scathing attack against Pakistan, the Dasha sequence changed to Capricorn-Leo-Virgo. Now, the difference may well be seen. The seventh from Capricorn is heavily poised to start an open warfare. From Leo, the seventh receives aspect by DK and BK from the twelfth. Virgo receives aspect from Mars, the GK. It is seventh from Karakamsha too, suggesting strife between the two nations.

The formal ending of the war came on September 23, 1965 through UN Resolution 211. Pratyantar was of Scorpio. Scorpio comes under Rahu-Ketu axis and its dispositor is GK, who is sitting in the eighth from Ketu. This suggests that although the war ended, the results were not very satisfactory for India. The fourth from Leo and Scorpio both are severely afflicted, suggesting unhappiness towards the outcome. This can be easily understood from some of the neutral assessments of the losses carried out after the war.

Certainly, due to international pressure, India had to sign the ceasefire agreement.

In 2015, Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh, the last surviving armed force commander of the conflict, gave his assessment that the war ended in a stalemate, but only due to international pressure for a ceasefire, and that India would have achieved a decisive victory had hostilities continued for a few days more:

“For political reasons, Pakistan claims victory in the 1965 war. In my opinion, the war ended in a kind of stalemate. We were in a position of strength. Had the war continued for a few more days, we would have gained a decisive victory. I advised then prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri not to agree to a ceasefire. But I think he was pressured by the United Nations and some countries.”

Neutral Assessments of the Indo-Pak War 1965

There have been several neutral assessments of the losses incurred by both India and Pakistan during the war. Most of these assessments agree that India had the upper hand over Pakistan when the ceasefire was declared.

• In his book titled The greater game: India's race with destiny and China, David Van Praagh wrote–

India won the war. It held on to the Vale of Kashmir, the prize Pakistan vainly sought. It gained 1,840 km² [710 sq mi] of Pakistani territory: 640 km² [250 sq mi] in Azad Kashmir, Pakistan's portion of the state; 460 km² [180 sq mi] of the Sailkot sector; 380 km² [150 sq mi] far to the south of Sindh; and most critical, 360 km² [140 sq mi] on the Lahore front. Pakistan took 540 km² [210 sq mi] of Indian territory: 490 km² [190 sq mi] in the Chhamb sector and 50 km² [19 sq mi] around Khem Karan.

• In his book National identity and geopolitical visions, Gertjan Dijkink writes –

The superior Indian forces, however, won a decisive victory and the army could have even marched on into Pakistani territory had external pressure not forced both combatants to cease their war efforts.

• Devin T. Hagerty wrote in his book South Asia in world politics–

The invading Indian forces outfought their Pakistani counterparts and halted their attack on the outskirts of Lahore, Pakistan's second-largest city. By the time the United Nations intervened on September 22, Pakistan had suffered a clear defeat.

• Former New York Times reporter Arif Jamal wrote in his book Shadow War—

This time, India's victory was nearly total: India accepted a cease-fire only after it had occupied 740 square miles [1,900 km²], though Pakistan had made marginal gains of 210 square miles [540 km²] of territory. Despite the obvious strength of the Indian win, both countries claim to have been victorious.

The D6 divisional chart critically shows as to why such war happened in the Capricorn period. The seventh from Capricorn as well as Capricorn itself is under heavy affliction. Aquarius is twelfth from AK, while Capricorn is eleventh from AK. Note the difference in results of 1962 and 1965.

Planetary Conjunctions (1965):

Transit Chart on 15 August 1965

Rahu-Ketu is transiting over the natal Nodal axis, while aspecting Capricorn. GK is transiting over AmK in the sixth house from Lagna and eighth house from Karakamsha. AmK is transiting over GK. This shows the distress of the ruling regime. A retrograde planet is transiting over Leo, being aspected by GK is transit. Simultaneously another retrograde planet is hovering in the seventh from Leo with DK. War was inevitable.

The onset of the Capricorn Mahadasha marked a dramatic escalation in events for Iran. On April 1, 2024, Israel launched an airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, resulting in the death of Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), along with several others. In a historic response, Iran retaliated on April 13 by unleashing over 300 drones and missiles at Israel—its largest missile attack ever and the first direct assault on Israeli territory. Most of these projectiles were intercepted before reaching their targets, but the exchange signaled a new phase of open confrontation between the two nations.

Astrological Analysis

From Capricorn, AmK (Saturn) is positioned in the eighth house along the Rahu-Ketu axis, while PK (Jupiter) was exalted in the seventh house, strongly influenced by an exalted Moon, the BK. This configuration indicated significant danger to Iran’s leadership.

The volatility of this period was further underscored on May 19, 2024, when Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan province. At that time, the Dasha sequence was Capricorn–Sagittarius–Libra. From Libra tenth house contained PK (Jupiter), aspected by BK from its eighth and by Ketu and MK from the fifth (Aquarius), highlighting heightened risks to authority. Aquarius is eighth from Lagna and third from KL.

As Iran now enters the final phase of Libra AD in Capricorn MD, the threat to its leadership remains acute. The upcoming Virgo AD is expected to be even more turbulent. Virgo is tenth from KL and its seventh house contains AK, GK, and DK, suggesting the potential for further instability and crisis for Iranian authority.

Throughout history, war has been an enduring aspect of human civilization, shaping nations, cultures, and the course of history itself. While the causes of war are often complex and multifaceted, they can generally be distilled into two fundamental motives: the desire to prove superiority over others, and the necessity to defend oneself from external aggression. These motives, though distinct, often intertwine, fueling conflicts that have both shaped and scarred the world.

The Interplay of Motives

While the motives of proving superiority and self-defence can be seen as distinct, they frequently overlap. Aggressors may justify their actions as pre-emptive self-defence, while defenders may be spurred to demonstrate their strength and resolve. Propaganda and rhetoric often blur the lines between offense and defence, making it difficult to disentangle the true causes of conflict.

Moreover, wars that begin as defensive struggles can evolve into campaigns of conquest, as seen in the aftermath of many historic conflicts. Conversely, wars of aggression can provoke fierce resistance, transforming would-be conquerors into embattled occupiers.

India’s Case

India’s approach to war has historically been rooted in the principle of self-defence, responding to external aggression rather than seeking expansion or domination. This is evident in major conflicts such as the 1962 Sino-Indian War, where India’s military actions were primarily reactive, aiming to protect its territorial integrity in the face of Chinese advances. Despite forward deployments and attempts to assert control over disputed areas, Indian forces were largely unprepared for the scale of the Chinese offensive, and the government sought to avoid escalation, emphasizing defensive postures even as hostilities intensified.

Similarly, India’s engagements with Pakistan, including the wars of 1965, 1971, and the 1999 Kargil conflict, have been characterized by a focus on repelling incursions and safeguarding national sovereignty. The Kargil War, for instance, was triggered by the infiltration of armed militants and Pakistani soldiers into Indian territory, prompting a measured military response to reclaim lost ground rather than pursue broader territorial ambitions. This consistent pattern underscores India’s strategic culture, which prioritizes defense and the protection of its borders over aggression or conquest.

The timing of War: An Astrological Analysis

The interplay between historical conflicts and astronomical phenomena offers a unique lens through which to view these pivotal moments.

India War Series I: 1962 Sino-Indian War

The 1962 Sino-Indian War broke out over disputed Himalayan territories, most notably Aksai Chin and the North-East Frontier Agency. On October 20, 1962, China launched a swift and decisive offensive, taking advantage of India’s lack of preparedness and the global distraction caused by the Cuban Missile Crisis. Chinese forces advanced rapidly, seizing significant areas before unilaterally announcing a ceasefire on November 20 and withdrawing to their pre-war positions.

Jaimini Dasha

At the time of the conflict, the Jaimini Dasha sequence was Aquarius–Capricorn–Taurus. Notably, Taurus, representing the fourth house (land) from Aquarius, was occupied by Rahu, with DK (Moon) and BK (Venus) casting their aspects from Cancer, the third house (neighbor). Rahu resided in the house of BK and in the nakshatra of AK, while Cancer, the sixth house from Aquarius and seventh from Capricorn. Saturn is the lord of both Aquarius and Capricorn. In this context, it is worthwhile to mention that, the sixth house points to border disputes, and the seventh house represents open warfare.

From Capricorn, the fourth house—Aries—was aspected by Ketu from the seventh house, indicating open conflict. Ketu, positioned in Scorpio and in the nakshatra of BK, further intensified the situation. Scorpio’s ruler, Mars, acted as GK, and Aries, a fiery sign representing the twelfth house for India, suggested sudden and severe upheaval. The combination of these planetary influences pointed to a period of intense strife and loss.

From Karakamsha (Pisces), the fourth is occupied by GK, who is aspecting the Karakamsha itself. GK is further aspecting Virgo, the eighth house from Aquarius. It is also the Arudha Pada. Clearly, both the Arudha Pada and Karakamsha is severely afflicted.

In D9, Aquarius is in the Rahu-Ketu axis. The seventh from it is DKN too. It is twelfth from Swamsha. The sixth from Capricorn is under the influence of GK.

The D6 divisional chart reinforced this picture: Taurus, the seventh house, was occupied by GK and aspected by DK from the twelfth house, highlighting vulnerability and loss. Moreover, Cancer (sixth and seventh from Aquarius and Capricorn respectively is severely afflicted by all the worst rate malefics.

Planetary Conjunctions (1962):

As clearly seen, GK and Rahu are transiting over Lagna Lord and DK, while DK was transiting over GK. The two worst rate malefics, Saturn and Ketu were transiting Capricorn, with retrograde Jupiter (eighth lord) transiting over Aquarius.

India endured a devastating defeat, with Chinese troops pushing Indian forces back and capturing all their claimed territories in the western sector and the Tawang Tract in the east. The conflict concluded with China’s unilateral ceasefire on November 20, 1962, influenced by the resolution of the Cuban Missile Crisis and concerns over possible U.S. intervention. Despite the adversity, the aspects of AK and AmK on Taurus offered a glimmer of hope for India’s future.

n August 15, 1947, leading astrologers like Sh. Hardeo Sharma Trivedi and Sh. Surya Narain Vyas expressed concern over the chosen date, deeming it inauspicious. They conveyed their apprehensions to Dr. Rajendra Prasad, who would later become India’s first President, warning that August 15 did not bode well astrologically for the birth of a new nation.

Faced with the necessity of adhering to the British decision, these astrologers identified midnight as the most favourable moment for the ceremony. Their reasoning was threefold:

• By midnight, the Moon would enter Pushya nakshatra, a lunar mansion traditionally regarded as highly auspicious for new beginnings.

• The timing coincided with Abhijit muhurta, an especially propitious period in the Hindu calendar.

• The ascendant, or Lagna, at that hour would be Taurus (Vrishabha), a fixed sign associated with stability and endurance-qualities desired for the foundation of a nation.

This careful selection of the midnight hour was seen as a way to mitigate the inauspiciousness of the date itself and bestow a favourable astrological foundation upon independent India. The importance of this decision was noted even in international circles; Sir Woodrow Wyatt, writing in the Times of London in May 1988, credited Indian astrologers with “saving the nation” by guiding the timing of independence.

In contrast, Pakistan declared its independence at midnight on August 14, 1947. The ascendant at that moment was Aries (Mesha), a movable and dynamic sign, and the Moon was in Ardra nakshatra, considered fierce and less favourable for harmonious beginnings. This difference in astrological timing is often cited by practitioners as symbolic of the divergent destinies and histories that unfolded for the two nations.

Thus, while the British fixed the date, it was Indian astrologers who, through their knowledge and tradition, chose the precise moment that would shape the nation’s astrological destiny, weaving together history, culture, and cosmic timing in the birth of modern India.
