Folks, this one is crazy.

It was recently announced that I’ll be drawing the tenth issue of IDW’s Twilight Zone series! I have the honor of working with Rosemary and Charles Soule (holy shit, right?), and I can’t wait to see it in print.

Twilight Zone #10 goes on sale August 12th! FOC is July 6th, so get those pre-orders in SOON!

Twilight Zone #10, A Life Well-Lived, is a creepy little short story about two girls who find a secret network of government tunnels under their east coast university campus. It’s a total love letter to the original Twilight Zone series, and it’s chocked full of easter eggs and nods to iconic episodes. Also a fun opportunity for me to draw something that leans a little more moody.

I grew up watching reruns of The Twilight Zone with my dad, so it’s a bizarre full-circle moment to be working on it’s namesake comic book. And with writers whose work I LOVE, no less. This is a very special comic, and you should definitely check it out. Ask for it at your Local Comic Shop!

I’m always beating this drum, but I am a pretty new creator in the world of traditionally published comics. Even if you plan on picking the book up on release, pre-orders are the BEST way you can support me here. High pre-orders on a book with my name on it tells publishers that I am in demand, and will empower them to give me more work, and even let me do some bigger crazier projects of my own design.

Back the Campaign!

Our campaign got off to an extremely strong start when we launched this past Tuesday, hitting our initial funding goal in just ONE DAY! That’s crazy. Thanks so much to everyone who backed the project in our first 48 hours. It warms my heart that so many folks are hooked on the world of Danger Boi. If you need a sign from God that this book is worth reading, let it be that.

But baby, we ain’t even close to done.

We’ve got 22 days left in the campaign, and we want to make this monster GROW. We’re currently building toward our first stretch goal of $6000, which will add a bonus short story focusing on the origins of the Patrioteer!

While my A Cover gives us a badass hero shot of DB and the Antagonists, these covers shine a light on some of the other characters who populate the DB world. Jacob’s focuses on the Statesmen (the so called “superheroes” of this world), and Morgan’s gives us a rad look at my new favorite character, guerilla journalist Harm Free (and goddamn, just look at those watercolors)!

A fun piece of lore here is that this is the second time Jacob Edgar has done a variant for a book I’ve worked on - the first being his variant cover for BLOOD HONEY!

Comics as Resistance

As with the original Danger Boi, this new issue does not shy away from the real-world issues plaguing our lives right now. There are some heavy themes for sure, but drawing this book feels like a small form of resistance.

Danger Boi is not a deconstruction of the superhero genre. It’s not us going “wouldn’t it be edgy af if superheroes were ultra violent and abused their power?” DJ and I are lifelong enjoyers of superhero comics, and this book is our attempt to bring the genre into the 21st century, and tell a story that feels reflective of the world we’re all forced to deal with in the year of our lord 2026.

No corporate money. No shareholders. This is a superhero comic by the people, for the people.

Viewers Like You, Thank You

One very cool thing about that “no corporate money” thing is that DJ and I (but to be real with you guys, mostly DJ) are just as responsible for the business end of this book as we are for the creative end. Production costs, printing, distribution. All of it is up to us. It’s a challenge, but we’re willing to do it because this book is a labor of love.

All of this is to say, Danger Boi thrives on support from our fans and readers. The only way we can continue to make this book is if you folks believe in the project and continue to support it.

For most people, comic and pop-culture conventions are a once-a-year occasion. You work on your costume all year, save up some dollars, and mark your calendar that one sweet weekend where you can meet your heroes and celebrate your fandom in a technicolor frenzy.

People who exhibit at cons experience them differently.

About a year ago now, I wrote a love letter to comic cons on this very blog. And while I don’t want to undermine that piece, I do want to touch on a different, less-discussed side of the Comic Con coin. Once a vendor or an artist alley participant gets into the rhythm of doing conventions regularly (say, four or more per year), they are prone to condition that I call “Comic Con Delirium.”

The first symptom of CCD is a sort of sleep-deprived haze. Perhaps the result of an abnormally early drive to the convention center, or a late night attempt to reclaim some relaxation time after a long day on the con floor. You enter the con floor on the edge of what we can legally consider “awake.” Your brain is still trying to make sense of the world it has woken up to, and is not prepared for postmodern concepts like “chibi Nostalgia Critic body pillow”.

In Stage 2 of CCD, reality itself will start to warp, as you find yourself in a sort of Groundhog Day time loop. This stage is especially disorienting if you’re doing many cons in the same region (as I have in the Midwest). You start to recognize a lot of the same artists and vendors*, practically caravan-ing from one vendor hall to the next. You might even start to see repeat celebrity guests, multiple cons in the same venue, etc. A stray memory of a con floor interaction will cross your mind, and you’re unsure if this memory occurred yesterday or six months ago.

*Do not get it twisted- finding community with other artists and vendors in your area is never a bad thing, in fact, it’s one of the best parts of tabling.

At some point, linear time will cease to exist. There is no before or after, there is only con. You’re in an infinite, dream-like sprawl of never ending artist alleys and t-shirt towers like lighthouses on distant shores.

In the third and final phase, social aptitude is lost. You cannot carry a conversation, nor form a complete sentence. If you ever see me at a con, you’ll know I’ve reached this phase if I’m sitting at my table with a blank expression, staring straight forward into pure void. The thought that anyone would allow you to handle their money in this state is laughable. Operation of a motor vehicle after the show ends, while probably inevitable, is ill-advised.

Comic Con Delirium will clear up temporarily after a good night’s sleep. And you hope, after you’re rested and your earnings are tallied up, that your surreal fandom-laden weekend was worth it enough to do it all again.

Guys this book is going to be so. Sick. DJ wrote so much cool stuff into this comic that I can’t wait to draw. A few pages are already done that give you a glimpse into Danger Boi’s new look and some of our new characters (including my new fave, rogue journalist Harm Free).

Since then, I’ve also contributed to other nonprofits depending on which city I’m exhibiting in. We’ve sent money to the Michigan Immigration Rights Center, the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, and USCRI Cleveland.

IT HAPPENED!

Back in April, Godzilla Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: ROMEO & JULIET & GODZILLA hit the stands! My first time working on an established IP, and the King of the Monsters, at that!

This oversize one-shot was illustrated by me and written by Adam Tierney, with cover and backup story by Tom Scioli! I’m so incredibly proud of this book, and I’m really happy that people seem to be liking it.

I’ve been hearing that a lot of retailers have sold out of it, which, while frustrating for potential new readers, is an insanely good thing for an up-and-coming creator. It was even sold out on release day at my local shop here in Cleveland!

Don’t just take my word for it, though. Critics all over the internet have been digging R & J & Godzilla!

Four Seasons of FEAR

In other news, I collaborated with writer David Booher on a short story for Stacked Deck Press’ FOUR SEASONS OF FEAR: A Year of Queer Horror.

I was more than happy to lend my hand as an ally to this fantastic anthology of work from LGBTQ+ creators, including Josh Trujillo, David Booher, and Wilfred Santiago. There’s not much I can say about it at the moment, other than that it features a truly messed up and delightful splash page that I can’t wait to share.

I don’t always do commissions, but when I do, I like to have fun.

I’ve had some people asking me lately if I’m currently taking commissions, and the answer is unfortunately no. I still have one more to get through in my current batch, and that’s to say nothing of the two comics projects I’m currently juggling (one of them Danger Boi, you’ll never guess the other one).

Feed Your Brain

Here’s what I’ve been into lately:

• The Drama is a weird little movie that hinges entirely on a premise that the marketing keeps purposefully hidden from the viewer. It’s such a thrilling movie-going experience, as the viewer is forced to form their opinion about Zendaya’s character in real time along with all the other characters in the movie after a bombshell reveal in the first fifteen minutes. Highly recommend.

• I’ve been catching up on Absolute Martian Manhunter by Deniz Camp and Javier Rodriguez. It really is as good as you’ve heard. I’m surprised that DC is even publishing it, because it’s really not even a superhero comic. More like a psychedelic neo-noir that argues why we all just need to go to therapy and love each other. Artwork unlike anything I’ve ever read in a mainstream superhero comic. You don’t need any background knowledge of any other book in the Absolute Comics line. Just check it out and treat it as it’s own thing. You won’t be sorry.

• Margo’s Got Money Problems is a charming show on Apple TV+ where Elle Fanning plays a young single mother who (among other things) starts paying her bills by doing work on OnlyFans. It’s a show that has a lot to say, and it’s better to just let the show say it instead of reading me trying to describe it. Extremely compelling, very funny, parts of it may make your blood boil. Fantastic Nick Offerman performance in which he’s a dead ringer for my friend’s dad.

• For the first time in years, I’ve got a record player/stereo setup. Man, I’ve been waiting years for that. To celebrate, I hit up my local record store, and after two hours of browsing and deliberation, I walked away with Stevie Nicks’ solo debut, Bella Donna, and Dire Straits’ Making Movies. Both albums I’ve loved for years that sound GREAT coming from some real speakers rather than Airpods.

This new book has such a great creative team — I’m an especially big fan of artist Sean Peacock — and a different enough approach to make it distinct from how Tom Scioli did Godzilla and Gatsby. It’s just a blast.

Peacock makes a lot of great artistic choices, able to capture the emotion of the love story and the fun of a giant kaiju fight. There are a lot of really cool visuals that will stick with you after reading the book, and it’s the kind of comic you’ll find yourself picking up again to experience the fun one more time.

[Peacock and Tierney] do an excellent job of taking Scioli’s concept and putting their own twist on how the two are combined.

Sean Peacock’s art is truly masterful as well. The use of color and art style feels very immersive to a Shakespeare graphic novel. Godzilla looks great, as does his wooden counterpart (read it and take a look, you’ll be delighted!).

One of the hardest things to manage as a freelance artist is the work you have to do vs. the work you want to do. I get hired to draw all sorts of things, usually at the direction of other people, and I’m very fortunate that I’m able to (more or less) support myself doing what I love. That said, any artist will tell you about their mile-long list of personal projects they would work on if they only had the time.

Ever since I self-published my first comic, Peppermint Desert, I’ve cycled through several other personal projects that I wanted (and still want) to make purely for the fun of it. Thing is, I hate doing things halfway, and these projects inevitably snowball until they are far too big to complete between all my other commitments. At this point, I take a break, pivot, or compromise to make the project more manageable. Because of this vicious cycle, not a single one of these personal projects have come to fruition!

One of these projects (that I swear to god I will finish one day) is a comic called Ozma, about a lonesome astronomer who accidentally discovers magic. I did get to finish a little vignette with this character last fall in my Ozma’s Omen triptych. If I get my way, eventually I’ll tell a longer story about her.

Last month, I wrote about the new approach I’m taking to my art and business practices, which prioritizes time management and avoiding burnout. I’m taking that all very seriously, but the devil on my shoulder keeps tempting me with the allure of an All Sorrows original project. Over the past month, I had the pleasure of speaking to a few students who wanted to pick my brain for career advice (hilarious), and I gave them both the same piece of advice: when you’re starting out, set small achievable goals for yourself so you can get into the rhythm of starting and finishing projects.

Maybe I should take my own advice.

I’m thinking about what kinds of short-form projects would keep me creatively fulfilled. I have a couple ideas, but I’m going to keep my cards close to my chest for now. For a long time, I’ve been kicking around the idea of starting a Patreon, and perhaps some of these projects could live there, available to those so invested in what I do that they wouldn’t mind coughing up a few bucks a month.

(Yes, I know I could do that here on Substack — my mind works in a strange way, it’s a whole thing.)

This is where I’d like to hear from some of you reading this. If I were to offer paid subscriptions, what would you like to see? Behind the scenes glimpses into my process? Exclusive comics? Stickers in your mailbox every month? These are all possibilities, but if I’m going to take your money, you should get a say in what you see. Tell me, what can I do for you?

Commissions & Originals

I’ve been having a lot of fun pumping out some sketch covers and little 6x8 originals. I rarely get to do fan art anymore, so these are a great excuse to get back in touch with my nerdy roots.

Lately, whenever I do cons and events, I’ve also been selling these little 6x8 originals for $45 each. I sold four of these suckers at FanExpo Cleveland a couple weeks ago. I’m almost sold out, but I plan to do more when I get some time (ha).

Seeing these sell is really heartening. I kind of see it as a response to the rise of AI. The idea that someone can own a little piece of my artwork, that I poured over at my desk and thought carefully about every little brushstroke. Human made. I’m glad I can provide that to people at a reasonable cost. I also have much pricier originals sitting around that I’ve been meaning to list on my website.

DANGER BOi vs. ICE: A Fundraiser for Minnesota

If you’re unfamiliar, Danger Boi & the Antagonists is a cyberpunk superhero heist comic written by my friend DJ Wooldridge and illustrated by yours truly. It’s got some very heavy, very prescient political theming.

Since February, we’ve been donating all the proceeds from sales of Danger Boi to Monarca, a Minneapolis-based rapid response line for ICE sightings. Monarca also trains community members in constitutional observation so that ICE, and by extension the Trump regime, can be held accountable.

I believe that the current moment we’re in will end, and that the regime will be defeated. I think we’re already starting to see the signs. Call me a glass-half-full kind of guy, but it feels like we’re beginning to reach the climax that the last decade or so has been building to. From where I’m at, it does not look like the government has this shit under control.

All this is to say, the work Monarca is doing is important for keeping communities safe in this moment, but it will also be instrumental for accountability in the future.

BLOOD HONEY TPB Out Now!

In case you missed it, my debut graphic novel BLOOD HONEY is available now in trade paperback from IDW Publishing and Penguin Random House!

I’ll be so real with you, as of right now, I think this is the best thing I’ve ever made. I’m so proud of it. 48 pages of teen angst, sword fights, melodrama, and murder plots. PLUS, the TPB version has several pages of backmatter including process work and an in-depth interview with me about my background and inspirations.

On the Road

Friends, if I’m not already busy as hell, you better believe I’m about to be.

I’ve got my whole slate of events lined up all the way through July, and we start THIS WEEKEND at C2E2 in Chicago!

I’m so excited for this year’s event lineup. Motor City Comic Con is always a blast, TCAF was awesome in 2024 (car break-in notwithstanding), and I ALWAYS look forward to Detroit Bookfest at Eastern Market.

Secret Projects

I live in the dark. I work in the dark.

There are a couple of pretty exciting things I’m working on at the moment that I can’t really talk about yet. I can tell you that one of them is Danger Boi Issue 2. I won’t show you anything yet, but I’ve started laying down inks and oh boy, this comic is gonna be awesome. Bigger and badder than the first Danger Boi in just about every way.

The other thing is something I cannot speak on at all. All I can say is that it’s a bucket list project with some extremely cool creators attached.

Feed Your Brain

Here are some lovely distractions that I’ve been enjoying lately:

• I went and saw Project Hail Mary the other day and it fucking. Ruled. It was nice to be in a packed movie theater for a film that wasn’t a reboot or a sequel. It also helped that I went in pretty much blind, having largely ignored the trailers. If you like The Martian or Arrival, you gotta see this.

• I picked up the entire run of Tini Howard’s Excalibur at FanExpo Cleveland, and I’ve really been enjoying it. It’s one of the last Krakoa-era launch titles that I haven’t read, and it’s been on my list forever. I’m a huge fan of Tini Howard and I LOVE the 80s Excalibur, so this was always gonna be a slam dunk for me. If you love X-Men but feel like it’s not weird or medieval enough, this is the book for you.

• Maya’s got us watching Hunter X Hunter, perhaps the most shonen anime I have ever seen. As the anime-resistant one in the relationship, I’m surprised how much I’m enjoying it. There’s a facade of wholesomeness to the first couple seasons that I can tell is going to break down, with more sinister/adult problems waiting in the wings for the two young boys at the center of the show. The typical shonen anime tropes tend to wear on me, but being that Hunter is the blueprint for many of these tropes in the first place, they’re all executed quite well. Satotz is my fave.

• There’s a band called smush that’s been gaining some traction on TikTok lately. They just put out a new EP called standards in which they put their own shoegaze-approaching-hyperpop spin on several of their favorite songs. Their covers of Retail Drugs’ 41, Norah Jones’ i don’t know why, and Owl City’s fireflies are my favorites.

• A serious threat to my time management is the New York Times’ Crossplay app, basically a clone of Scrabble. Maya and I are longtime players of the NYT word games, and it’s fun to have something we can play together and chip away at throughout the day. She whoops my ass every single time, but I’m still having fun.

We’re a month and a half into 2026, and it is, predictably, a mixed bag. Things are ugly as ever in the outside world, but here at All Sorrows HQ, I’m starting the year off strong and trying to do my part (small as that part may be) to help dig us out of this mess.

I’ve been trying to operate my career with a different energy this year. Ever since I graduated, I’ve been in a constant scramble to scrape together a living. I was spending every waking hour doing as much as I could to justifiably call myself a “working artist.” At the end of last year, I looked around, and realized that there was no need to panic. I’m doing it. It’s a modest career, yes, and I still feel like I’m at the beginning of my professional art journey, but overall I feel as though I’m nearly out of the “growing pains” phase. I’m trying to keep my calm, plan well, and manage my time better. I think, in the long run, this will give me some space to breathe and help me feel like a more complete person. So far, it’s working.

Let’s see if I can keep it up.

I’ve done some very cool stuff in the past month, but I’m not at liberty to talk about all of it. You’ll hear all about it soon enough. Til then, here’s what I’ve got going on these days:

Godzilla Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: ROMEO & JULIET & GODZILLA releases April 8th, with Final Order Cutoff March 2nd! As a new creator, pre-orders go a looooong way in convincing publishers to work with me on new projects (and there’s a secret project I really wanna get made this year). So far, reception to the book’s reveal has been really promising! I’m excited to get this into y’all’s hands.

DANGER BOi Fundraiser for Monarca Rapid Response

Earlier this month, I launched a fundraiser for Monarca, a Minneapolis-based rapid response line for ICE sightings in Minnesota. Monarca is doing fantastic work operating the line and training everyday people in constitutional observation so communities can do the (increasingly dangerous) work of holding ICE and DHS accountable for their myriad crimes against the American people.

For the unaware, I illustrate a comic written by my friend DJ Wooldridge called DANGER BOi & the ANTAGONiSTS. It’s a cyberpunk superhero heist story set in a dystopian United States that looks more like our own world with each passing day. DJ and I agreed to donate all proceeds from future sales of DANGER BOi to Monarca.

I’m happy to say that in two weeks, we’ve been able to donate $260 to Monarca. Thank you so much to everyone who has bought a copy since the fundraiser started. Headlines claim that ICE has left Minneapolis, but I’m not convinced. However, should urgent need arise in other parts of the country, I’m very much open to working with other organizations.

And for all the Danger Boi fans reading this, production is just beginning on the second issue. I can’t say much yet, but DJ’s script is so. Good. We’re gonna get to see some really fun corners of this world. I look forward to putting it all on the page.

BLOOD HONEY TPB Release

BLOOD HONEY LIVES AGAIN!

If you missed my major publishing debut, BLOOD HONEY, while it was in comic shops, have no fear! The fine folks at IDW just put out a trade paperback version, which is available wherever books are sold! We’re talking Barnes & Noble, Penguin Random House, various online and big box retailers that I will not name so as not to support them! And hey, you can always ask for it at your local comic book shop.

I’ve said before how proud I am of this book, so I’m very happy that it’s being made available to a wider audience.

So what separates the new “graphic novel” version from the original one shot? For starters, it includes an interview with me (conducted by my kick-ass editor Jake Williams) that gets into my background and creative process. There’s also a lot of process work, including script pages, layouts, pencils, inks - the whole nine yards. It’s contained within a nice thick, durable cover that sits nicely on a shelf beside all your favorite graphic novels. And on top of that, the book will only set you back a cool $9.99.

T-Shirt Printmaking Mania

Last month, I took pre-orders for a run of my fan-favorite THE END T-Shirts. These babies are block printed by hand. No digital assistance. Just rubber, ink, fabric, and elbow grease.

I spent the whole of this past Sunday printing all the shirts to order. You can check the video below to see how the sausage is made.

Huge thanks to everyone who pre-ordered a shirt! If you want one and weren’t able to secure one, keep an eye out. There might just be a few extras that could make their way to my store. I’m really pleased with the reception to this campaign, and I think I’ll do more like it in the future with new/different designs (believe it or not, I’m kind of getting sick of the TV). Maybe I’ll dive back into screen printing? I dunno, we’ll have to see.

If you pre-ordered one of these shirts, hang in there! As I’m writing this (Tues. Feb. 17th), the ink needs about 4-5 more days to cure. Orders will be packed and shipped out between Feb. 23-27th, so you can look out for yours in late February or early March.

I’m keeping it pretty local to Ohio these first few months of the year, but I do have plans to travel more as we get into the Spring and Summer. Thanks to everyone who came out to the Screw Factory and Whimsigoth Night Market this month! It’s been really fun going to these cozier community-centric events. That said, I’m really excited to hop into the con scene again with Fan Expo Cleveland and SPACE this March!

Feed Your Brain

Here are a few things I’ve been enjoying lately:

• Superman: Birthright is one of those famous DC stories that has eluded me until now. Now having read it, I consider it the definitive contemporary take on Superman’s origin. You can really see how it influenced James Gunn’s Superman film from last summer. It’s especially interesting when you put Birthright in context with the real-world headlines and tragedies that were happening in the early 2000s when it was published. Not to mention, Lenil Francis Yu’s artwork is just masterful.

• Cleverland Puzzle Books: A few months ago, I met Cleverland founder Claire Mercer at Genghis Con here in Cleveland. She hand writes and illustrates these amazing puzzle books that include logic puzzles, word searches, nonograms, and more. I have her Encrypted Cryptids book of nonograms and secret codes, and I’ve been having SO much fun with it. If you enjoy any of the New York Times games and want something just a step or two more challenging, I definitely recommend these. Each puzzle I finish makes me feel very smart. I will be buying more next time Claire and I are at the same show.

• The Traitors has been getting a lot of attention lately, so I finally bit the bullet. Maya and I are obsessed. I can’t believe it took this long for someone to think of a large-scale televised game of Mafia. The art direction is fantastic, the personalities are compelling, and the group dynamics are fascinating. Even if you’re usually not a reality TV person (as I am not), give this a try.

• The Cure is a band I’ve always known about and liked in a vague way, but I never knew much of their music outside of the hits. Lately I decided to do a deep dive on their discography, and I’ve found so much music that I love. I’m struck by how rapidly they evolved. Going from a naive early punk sound on their debut, straight into a more ethereal, ambient sound on Seventeen Seconds. And their more overtly goth and pop-leaning stuff in the mid-late 80s is, of course, right up my alley. “Push” and “The Baby Screams” are a couple of my favorites.

In Conclusion

Last September, myself and writer DJ Wooldridge put out a comic called DANGER BOi & the ANTAGONiSTS after a successful Kickstarter campaign. It’s a cyberpunk superhero heist story set in a dystopian near-future where a corrupt U.S. Government unleashes state violence against it’s own citizens with the help of a team of right-wing billionaire superheroes. You know, the stuff of fiction.

While being a celebration of superhero comics with fun, tokusatsu-inspired visuals, the book also deals in heavy anti-fascist and anti-capitalist theming.

This book was written in the Biden era, but spoke to issues that we knew would not be going away anytime soon. We’re saddened (but not surprised) to see the state violence depicted in the book unfolding in the real world, perpetrated by federal ICE agents against immigrants, non-immigrant citizens, and children.

By now, you’ve undoubtedly heard all about the atrocities committed by ICE in Minneapolis. The detainment of innumerable people of color, regardless of citizenship status. The murder of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti. Critics of any kind labeled as “domestic terrorists.”

Call it what it is: evil.

To help Minnesota communities under attack by ICE, DJ and I have agreed that starting now, all profits from sales of DANGER BOi & the ANTAGONiSTS will be donated to Monarca MN, a people-powered movement building rapid-response infrastructure to protect Minnesota communities in times of crisis, like this one. I’m a mid-20s stoner comic book artist with more than a few socioeconomic privileges, and my social media algorithms have surely figured out by now that I’m engaged by hopecore content. I’m not sure to what degree I am living in an echo chamber, being shown content that affirms my own worldview. But that’s no reason to let said worldview go.

It’s a weird time to be trying to make a living as an artist. It feels, at times, selfish, delusional, and almost comically unhelpful. But I’m lucky enough to have a modest platform, and damn it, I’m going to use it.

What you’re about to read is a three-page story I wrote and illustrated for the OMENS exhibition at KickstART Gallery in Farmington, MI last fall.

Each of these “pages” is an 18x24” painting done in gouache, acrylic marker, and ink.

Turns out when you ask a comic artist to make gallery artwork, you get a gallery-sized comic.

I’ll be writing more about the OMENS show soon, and showing more of the work I made for it. Long story short, there are characters and stories present in that gallery work that I’d really like to expand on in future work, perhaps here on Substack. More on that soon.

From time to time, I dabble in printmaking to give me a little something different to do when I finish up a comics project. I taught myself how to screen print a while ago, but I don’t do it as much as I’d like, since the required equipment takes up a lot of space that I currently don’t have. Fortunately, block printing is still something I can do and have a lot of fun with!

My “THE END” TV T-Shirts have been a hit with my audience ever since I unveiled them, and this short video I made of the printing process BLEW UP last month!

Seriously, I think that video is the most-viewed thing I’ve ever made.

My remaining stock sold out in a heartbeat, and a lot of people were left commenting that they wanted more! WELL, HERE YOU GO!

TV Shirts are back on the market! Here’s how it’s going to work: I have a limited number of shirts available for pre-order. Pre-Orders will be open until Jan. 28th, at which point the window will close, and I’ll start printing. These shirts will be made to order, and since the curing process on these takes about a week, they’ll take a little longer than usual to ship. I’m aiming to ship these out the week of February 22-28.

If you wanted one of these babies, now is your chance! The designs are printed on Comfort Colors shirts, and they hold up just fine in the wash along with all your other t-shirts. I really do enjoy making these designs. Printing a design like this by hand really makes me feel like I’m earning my punk rock credentials.

This pre-order model is a bit of an experiment. I’d like to do more of these block print designs in the future (again, in very limited runs), and if this rollout goes well, it’ll make it a lot easier for me to do more stuff like this in the future.

Due to popular demand, I’ll be opening up pre-orders for another run of these T-Shirts very soon. How soon? Probably within 48 hours of this post going live. Paid Tiers on Substack

In order to help me make a better living doing this, I’ll soon be opening up paid tiers on this newsletter! Posts like this will remain free for all readers, but any of you who might want to show me some extra support will be treated to some cool stuff.

I’m still working out exactly what this will look like, but here are my thoughts so far:

• Newsletters like this one will remain free. Every month, I’ll put out a free update to all readers which will round up all of my new art, announcements, appearances, etc. from the previous month.

• Readers who pledge $5/month will have access to more thoughtful blog posts (like these ones I’ve done in the past), as well as exclusive looks at my process, and access to some original comics/narrative content I’m developing for paid subscribers — more on that soon.

• Readers who pledge $10/month will receive an exclusive sticker in the mail every month, and a one-time small (SMALL) original sketch upon joining. Of course, $10 readers will also have access to everything in the $5 tier as well.

This is very much still in the works and subject to change, but I’d really like to get this program set up in the next couple months or so. My hope is to use Substack as a place to experiment with new and weirder projects more in line with the work I personally want to be making outside of freelancing. Gods willing, there will be a big enough paying audience to justify spending more time on that stuff. The more y’all put into it, the more I’ll be able to put out.

Feed Your Brain

Before I go, here are a few things that I’ve been into lately:

• Absolute Batman, Wonder Woman, and Martian Manhunter: Need I say more? These books are flying off the shelves at every LCS I’ve been to, and for good reason. The Absolute Universe is such a compelling and refreshing take on the DCU and the superhero genre as a whole. These three books are the first to get read when I get home from the comic shop.

• The Great: Maya and I are obsessed with the now-cancelled Hulu comedy series about Russia’s Catherine the Great. It’s so much fun; the writing, the humor, and the intricacy of the costumes and sets will have you wondering why this show was never as popular as it should have been.

• The Secret History by Donna Tartt: I’ve been listening to the audiobook version narrated by Tartt herself, and I totally get it now. I’ve wanted to read The Secret History for years (especially since penning my own dark academic fiction) and it lives up to the hype. I’m not yet done with it, but I am charmed by all of these very off putting characters.

• The Cure: I’ve been doing a deeper dive into The Cure, a band I’m familiar with in passing, but never spent much time on. I started with their debut, Three Imaginary Boys, and I’m getting a kick out of their early, more naive punk sound. Excited to hear more.

This cyberpunk superhero heist thriller was the most righteous of passion projects for myself and writer DJ Wooldridge. Our pal Taylor Esposito KILLED it on letters. Seriously, this book looks so incredible.

It’s so incredibly gratifying to see this book come out mere weeks after BLOOD HONEY. These are both stories that I’ve been holding onto for a long time, and it feels so good to finally have them out in the world. And hey, if you don’t have BLOOD HONEY yet, be sure to pick it up at your local comic shop (I also have signed copies available on my website)!

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the significance of this book coming out right around the same time that Jimmy Kimmel was fired kicked off the air for his criticism of the Trump administration in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder. The biggest voices in the entertainment industry are being silenced by our criminal government, and at this rate, it may soon come down to small, independent creators like DJ and myself to tell antifascist stories that speak truth to power.

DANGER BOi is a colorful superhero comic, yes, but it’s also a story about underdogs fighting government corruption. It’s about police brutality, imperialism, the weaponization of the media, and how American exceptionalism is nothing but a cycle of violence which has finally turned inward.

If this is at all making an impression on you, I implore you to check out the book for yourself. Every bit of support helps us continue telling this story, and hopefully, will embolden others to fight back.

Damn, it’s insane that BLOOD HONEY is out on shelves! And imagine how happy I am to find that people actually LIKE it!

Nathan Simmons at AIPT gave it a glowing review that just made me blush. I was lucky enough to follow up with AIPT for an interview where I got to talk process, inspiration, worldbuilding, and (my favorite) music! Check it out here!

The amount of good will and support I’ve seen for this book has made me so happy. This book really came from the heart, so I’m pleased to see that readers connect with these characters as much as I do.

And since this is my first traditionally published book, every single purchase helps me out. I have more I’d like to do in the world of BLOOD HONEY, so if enough people check out the book, I might get to keep playing in this weird little setting.

OMENS at KickstART Farmington

Lastly, I’m working on some really cool stuff for the OMENS exhibition at KickstART Gallery in Farmington, MI!

This is a show I’m doing with other local artists Holly Schoenfield (of Holy Bones fame) and John Martin, focusing on dark, macabre pop art.

BLOOD HONEY, out Sept. 3rd from IDW!

In case you haven’t caught me blabbing about it for the past ten months or so, my first traditionally published joint, BLOOD HONEY, will be out on September 3rd from IDW Publishing! Check out my old hollywood trailer here.

In this Burton-esque macabre world, young lovers Vanessa De La Mora and Edgar St. Claire are at the top of the food chain at Manderlay Preparatory High School. They should be focusing on their upcoming crowning as homecoming queen and king, but lately the duo have grown weary and resentful of each other. While breaking up seems like the easy solution, they’ve both independently decided that all of their problems would be solved if the other was, well…dead.

FOC has already passed, but if you call up your local comic shop, they may still be able to put one aside for you. Get em’ while they’re hot!

Being less than a month away from the release my first traditionally published comic feels surreal. Part of me won’t believe it’s actually happening until I walk into a comic book store and see it on the rack. Luckily, I’ll have the chance to do just that:

On BLOOD HONEY’s release date of September 3rd, I’ll be doing a signing at Green Brain Comics in Dearborn, MI from 4-7pm! Any Michiganders or folks who just happen to be in the neighborhood should stop by! I’ll be slinging books, and I’ll have some other goodies for sale like prints, stickers, etc. I’ve been going to Green Brain since before I could form memories, so having my first pro signing there is a crazy full-circle moment.

DANGER BOi & the ANTAGONiSTS!

In case you missed it, DANGER BOi & the ANTAGONiSTS, my cyberpunk superhero thriller with writer DJ Wooldridge, is locked and loaded. Colors and letters are complete, and DJ has sent it off to the printer. Backers should be receiving their copies by mid-September!

DJ and I are so incredibly proud of this book. We might be biased, but we think we’ve stumbled onto something really special. This isn’t just another cape book. This book has something to say about the current political moment, and publishing this independently gives us the space to talk about some tough subjects without pulling our punches.

Don’t let anyone tell you that superhero comics aren’t or shouldn’t be political. They are, and always have been. We’re keeping the tradition alive. And we’re just getting started.

OMENS at KickstART Gallery

And now for something a little different…

I’ll be displaying some of my original work at OMENS, an exhibition at KickstART Gallery in Farmington, MI from Oct. 1st - Nov. 8th. I’ll be joining my friends and incredible artists Holly Schoenfield and John Martin in an ultra-spooky show that will get you in the perfect mood for Halloween.

Shout Out to SHAPE MAN!

While I’m here in your inbox, I’d like to shout out a project by my good friend Breyden Boyd of Shape Comics fame. Breyden is about to launch a new Kickstarter campaign for his graphic novel, SHAPE MAN AND OTHER SUPER STORIES!

This will collect all of Breyden’s stories from his Shape Comics universe. That’s SHAPE MAN #1-3, as well as the FORGE/SURGE/OMEGA TRIPLE FEATURE (featuring my art on the FORGE short story)! Breyden is also putting together a bonus SHAPE MAN VS. OMEGA story to go with.

Lots going on this month. I’ve got my nose to the grindstone, so I don’t have time to wax poetic like I usually do, but I’m flush with updates and previews of things to come.

First things first, the highlight of June 2025 was my maiden voyage to Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC!

This con was an absolute blast, despite a lackluster amount of foot traffic (heatwaves are a traveling artist’s worst enemy). But it was worth it all the same. I met up with many comics peers that until then I’d only interacted with online, and I really felt that I was finding my place in the indie comics community. We love to see it. Also got the chance to meet Tradd Moore, one of my all-time favorites in the field, who was a maximum pleasure to speak to.

This was the furthest I’ve traveled so far for a convention (8 hours and change from Cleveland), so the con brought with it a sense of adventure. This was compounded by the scenic views along the drive, as well as the biblical rain that caught us in the mountains in West Virginia:

Speaking of West Virginia, it just so happened that the famed Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, WV was square in the middle of our path. We of course had no choice.

Thank you very much to all who came by my table at Heroes, and thank you to all my new comics buddies (y’all know who you are, although I’m betting most of you are too busy to be reading this, lmao). I look forward to being back next year!

BLOOD HONEY

IT’S HAPPENING.

In case you missed it, BLOOD HONEY, my 48-page one shot from IDW is now available for pre-order, along with a snazzy new variant cover from the very talented Jacob Edgar! Call your local comic shop and tell them to order one for you! This beauty goes on shelves September 3rd, but final order cutoff for retailers is July 28th.

As a new creator, pre-orders will go a really long way in showing publishers that my work is in-demand, so if you know you want to read Blood Honey, I encourage you to pre-order rather than waiting for it to hit shelves (it might sell out, or not be there at all!)

I also spent some time this month making a very goofy Old-Hollywood promo video for the book, which I encourage you to check out (it got low views and I worked hard on it - the algorithm HATES it when I put in real effort).

DANGER BOi

For those who are keeping up with DANGER BOi & the ANTAGONiSTS, my and writer DJ Wooldridge’s cyberpunk superhero thriller, I’m knee-deep in the coloring process!

Not to toot my own horn, but this book is looking gorgeous, and Taylor Esposito’s lettering is really bringing it to the next level. DJ and I are really stoked to put this book in your hands. We think we’ve got something really special here. It’s upsetting that a book like this is as politically relevant as it is, but I think art like this needs to be made right now.

Lettering is complete and I’m hard at work on colors. If all goes according to plan, we’re looking to ship this baby out sometime in October. Until then, pre-orders are still open if you’d like to secure your copy now!

Summer Art Fairs

It’s that time of the year again! This summer I’ll be set up at a few choice events slinging art, comics, stickers, etc. Michigan and Ohio friends can find me at the following events over the next few months:

For my summer events, I usually like to do some limited-run t-shirts, and this year is no exception! I’ve even got a couple of new designs I’m testing out:

Those block prints, pictured above, were printed last week and are curing as I write this. The broken hearts, pictured left, are a super duper small run, but if they sell well, I’ll definitely be making more.

And this brand new skull shirt (based on the bestselling sticker) is brought to you courtesy of the Maker Space at the Bainbridge Branch of the Geauga County Public Library. This is my first time messing with a Direct-to-Garment Printer, and I’m very pleased with the results! They’ll definitely be seeing me in that Maker Space again.

And So…

That’s about it for now. There are some other exciting things on the horizon, but they’re a little too raw for me to talk about just yet.

Damn… there’s one really exciting thing I want to talk about, but I’ll definitely get in trouble if I do. Stay tuned.

It’s July of 2024 and I’m exhibiting at the Wyandotte Street Art Fair in Wyandotte, Michigan. I’m slinging art prints, stickers, t-shirts, and comics like nobody’s business. An older gentleman dismounts his bicycle and steps into my tent. His skin was tanned and leathery, he wore a tight-fitting tank top, and in my memory (which may be faulty), he wore parachute pants and had a Hulk Hogan facial hair situation.

I’d met guys like him before. When you do the comic con/art festival circuit, its not uncommon for someone, usually a man of 50+ years, to give your stuff a cursory glance, look at you expectantly, and say something like “so what is all this?” And that’s exactly what this guy did, but I could tell right off the bat there was something else going on with him. His energy sat somewhere between spirited interest and… I’m not sure, but I think, rage? On the receiving end of his gaze, I could tell his eyes had seen things that I had not seen. So I give him the rundown, “this is my art, I’m an illustrator and comic artist, yadda yadda…”

He looks at my banner and says, “So you go by All Sorrows? You’re telling me that’s your name?”

“Well no,” I say, “my name is Sean, but All Sorrows is kind of a personal brand I use to present my artwork.” He points to my Chainsaw Man fanart print on display.

“So, YOU thought of this?”

“Well yes and no, that’s fan art of an anime-”

“What in here is YOURS?” He says with a sudden spike in intensity.

I quickly direct him to my Peppermint Desert display with the temperament of a serf pleading for his life before a mad king. “This here is a comic book that I wrote, illustrated, and self-published all on my own. Fully original, yes indeed.”

The older gentleman responded well to the psychedelic/vagabond elements of Peppermint. “Oh yeah,” he says, “See my bike here, I’ve been biking all over the country for over 40 years, I’ve been allll over, picking up odd jobs, doing whatever I gotta do. I’ve done all the acid and psychonaut stuff, too.” He talks at me for a little while longer, and I really wish I remembered more of what he said, but after a while, he looks at me and he looks at my work, and he says,

“You’re weird, man!”

Frankly, I did not view myself as the weird one in this interaction, but those words stuck with me. Are we both weird? Am I one and the same with this strange man? I certainly don’t have what we may think of as a “normal” career, although I don’t exactly see myself as an outcast. As a man with a penchant for excessive introspection, the thought has followed me for a year now: Am I… weird?

More on that in a second, but first, let’s do what we need to do to keep the lights on around here…

May 2025 in Artwork

This month I unveiled my cover art for author Didi Pounder’s novel, RED HOT BLACKTOP (pictured on the right), a pulpy erotic horror-thriller from Trashcan Press. This has been in the works for a while, and Didi was an absolute pleasure to work with.

I also did a Predator vs. Black Panther sketch cover commission ahead of Motor City Comic Con. Those are always fun because it’s an opportunity to introduce color into my traditional inking, and my limited palette of posca markers always makes for an interesting challenge.

The Weirdness

In grappling with my own weirdness, I find myself wondering what exactly is meant by “weird.” The dictionary definition is something like “strange, unusual, out of the ordinary, etc.” When you apply this term to people, I guess you’d be talking about folks who are nonconformist; people whose behavior, in some way, defies social norms. To take it a step further, I’d argue that “weirdness” usually carries a somewhat negative connotation, at least depending on who it’s coming from.

The last time in my life that I was called “weird” to my face (before that guy at the art fair), I was in elementary school, and I was probably just singing Dare To Be Stupid under my breath in the presence of a closed-minded second grader. It was definitely meant as an insult.

“Weird” defies conventional wisdom. It makes some people uncomfortable. For others, it’s alluring.

I am one of the latter. I’ve spent a lot of my life in proximity to weirdness. Growing up, my friend group leaned pretty dorky, and I was friends with a couple of kids who were probably deemed weirder than myself (in this instance, “weird” means they had autism before the year 2020).

In high school and college, myself and a friend of mine started keeping track of interactions we had with “strange” people we would meet through our travels in Detroit and East Lansing, respectively. Real outcasts, who in retrospect, probably didn’t need a couple of teenagers mythologizing them. But we never wanted to shade these folks for being weird, far from it. The situations came about from talking to these people (who, let’s be clear, would always approach us first) were interesting and enriching. We became attuned to weird shit. As a student of human character, it made life more interesting. At the beginning of the pandemic, I made a short comic about these encounters:

Let’s not forget that I also spent time at art school: the great incubator of weirdness. But this is tricky, because indeed there are plenty of shameless weirdos on art school campuses, but there are just as many people who feign weirdness. Kids who grow up with lots of support and project a fashionable weirdness as a sort of personal brand. And from my experience, the actual weird art school kids, the real basement dwellers so to speak, are not the type that trend-setters and curators are clamoring to hang out with.

I Am Definitely a Little Weird*

But hold onto that asterisk, it’s gonna be important in a sec.

If we go back to that idea that weirdness makes people uncomfortable, I don’t think my aura rubs people the wrong way. Or at least, I hope not. But, I can see how my life choices can be construed by some as “weird,” in a way that makes them fear more for my own well-being than theirs.

As far back as my senior year of high school, whenever I told people that I was going to college for illustration, it usually evoked a head tilt, and a cautiously puzzled follow up, like, “…so what do you want to do with that?”

Fast forward to the present day, and many of my Catholic school peers have white collar jobs, are getting married, having kids, living in big cities, etc. Meanwhile, after graduating art school, I went all-in on, of all things, comics. A famously back-breaking and un-lucrative industry. But it’s chill, because when I’m not drawing comics, I’m traveling across the Midwest to various conventions and art fairs, selling my wears to the masses, not unlike the Khajiit caravans in Skyrim:

The only “real” jobs I’ve had since graduating were part time gigs; one as a desk clerk at a one-room small town library, and another running municipal social media accounts for the same town. Without a degree in library science, I’m unlikely to break $15/hour in a library, and I do not intend to work in social media again. So upward mobility is not on the menu for me anytime soon.

So yeah, in contrast to what much of America thinks of as “safe” and “worthwhile” career paths, I have opted for something weirder, less stable, and much more DIY. But I think that may speak more to the way that the US has basically no infrastructure to support creative careers. In my mind, I’m just using my degree like anyone else would. There’s something to be said for the idea that all artists have to be a little bit weird in order to make art. It’s an inherently vulnerable act.

One time a former professor of mine from the College for Creative Studies, in response to the way I promote myself on social media, said I was “like a carnie.”

*The Entire World is Weird

As I write this blogpost and lay out my argument as to why I might be weird, it’s dawning on me that much of what I feel makes me “weird” may be mostly internal.

I don’t know.

I’m hard on myself. When you choose a creative career, especially one where you’re a freelancer, it’s impossible not to compare yourself with others - not just in your field, but also with people who have “normal” jobs. People who seemingly have their lives under control. Being a twentysomething is hard right now, with the world acting like it is. I’m on the road to financial independence, but I’m not quite there yet. I know more than a few people my age who have their shit figured out.

Sometimes I’m embarassed. Other times I have pride.

It feels better to think myself as weird than as a burnout.

But consider this:

The entire world, since about 2016, has descended into complete absurdity. We can all acknowledge this. It feels like we’re living in a fever dream. The President of the United States is a criminal reality show host. Artifical intelligence, instead of making our lives easier, appears to be colonizing the humanities. A global pandemic came and went. Existential panic creeps into our lives from all angles. Life goes on.

What good is it to be “normal” when the rest of the world has gone mad?

The internet has created an infinite cacophany of voices, thoughts, styles, and images that have seeped into every part of our lives. It’s the loudest thing there has ever been and it’s everywhere. Some people use it as an opportunity to flaunt their oddity. Others, who cling to normality and claim that the world as we know it is fine and dandy, become a type of weird in and of themselves. Have you hung out with a group of corporate CPAs recently? It’s bizarre. When everything and everyone is a little bit weird, what does weirdness even mean? Should it even matter anymore?

Perhaps embracing my weirdness makes me, and people like me, uniquely equipped to navigate the surreal hell world we find ourselves in. There’s no use in conforming when there’s barely anything to conform to.

Weird is neither bad nor good. Weird is everywhere, and in being everywhere, weird ceases to exist. Weird is no longer an insult.

No. The real insult, thing that threatens creativity and earnestness, is cringe.

Feed Your Brain

Some things that have brought me joy lately:

• The Rehearsal just finished it’s second season, and by the end, I truly couldn’t believe what I was watching. Nathan Fielder is the voice of a generation.

• Eightball by Dan Clowes - My dad gave me the omnibus edition for Christmas a couple years ago, and I finally finished it. It’s a breathtaking accomplishment, and only a fraction of Clowes work. I aspire to one day create something this resonant. It’s a special kind of nihilism that I’m not always in the mood for, but he writes with a certain cheekiness, almost as if the cartoonish bleakness of his personal worldview is meant to remind the reader that things aren’t truly that bad.

• Jaws - I saw a 4K remaster at the Cleveland Cinematheque last weekend and goddamn, it’s a classic for a reason. Suspenseful, gory, and charming all at the same time.

• Bloom Baby Bloom, the new single from British rock band (and my personal faves) Wolf Alice. Their previous album, Blue Weekend was my obsession in the summer of 2021, and I’m eagerly awaiting the new record.

• Power Rangers in Space is an absolute delight straight out of my childhood. I’ve been putting this on while I work, and man, it just puts me in a good mood. Rock music, rubber suit monsters, bright colors, bad acting, and a truly emotionally charged story. It’s got me thinking about the nature of Power Rangers and what makes it special to me beyond the nostalgia factor. Don’t be surprised if you see some PR related content from me sometime soon.
