A reader of the bible would know Jesus wasn’t born in Europe or in a white mans land. Jesus was born in Bethlehem a town in Judea. Therefore the map identifies a different ethnicity but the world believes a different truth. The map points to the Middle East , a diverse multiethnic region with a predominantly Arab communities but that’s not the man the world tells us to worship. Jesus wore a white face the day the white man realised the power of religion. He understood the power and control over the minds of those who are looking for peace.

A colonised Jesus is who we praise ? Or is a Jesus with a minority status not worth to be the saviour of the world. The facts that come with the book that teaches us about him points to a different phenotype , a different culture , a different man. So why’d a man with a minority status not save me because my name isn’t English ? Why a Jesus so upright sounds more like a colonial dictator than a saint ?

A book that was never English teaches about him , a book historical Hebrew and originally existed in many languages of the Middle Eastern region, but the man who translated it the one with so much power ?

It doesn’t belong to him why does he have the ability to tell me I am not worth saving because my name isn’t Christina Smith. That sounds holy enough ? Does Smith sound more Christian enough than Zondi ? So my getaway to a saviour can be blocked because my name sounds a little bit different , it has a little history behind it ? Why does it seem like only African names are the ones that are inherently demonic ? Or rather demonised ?

Are serving a Jesus constructed to oppress or we serving a man that is supposed to grant us freedom ? Why would only African and other minority nations names be demonic if he himself belongs in a community of minorities. He left his minority status and chose whiteness as purity , moral and clean ?

If a biblical accurate Jesus would walk in , all of you wouldn’t recognise him not because he is hard to but because a Middle Eastern man would walk in and all of you would see a terrorist and an Arab man , because we’re clearly taught to value a Eurocentric approach to Jesus and in the process we should abandon anything African.

Your saviour isn’t Jesus , you are just waiting to fall in the hands of purity but your idea of purity may just be a colonial invention.

Now that you’ve changed your name to an English “holy” name to be more acceptable , allow me to ask are you waiting for a White supremacist dictator ? or you waiting for a helper of the helpless likes the bible describes him. Also the gossip news pages on instagram who don’t know if they are news pages or just in people’s business with all the wrong information.

Vintage designer - yes the heels , the Versace 2008 runway dress . Roberto Cavalli’s summer collection. The vintage Chanel flaps . I could go onnnn! Vintage designer feels more like art than Morden pieces that feel like fast fashion and only for viral moments.

the conversation around blackness and Africa - I came I across a-lot about this conversation when tiktok decides to drop me off on American TikTok ( how I hate it! ). They largely believe that if you’re African then you ain’t black. To keep it short I feel it comes from the fact that to them “race” doubles down as ethnicity , while we have tribes or rather cultural groups that we belong in , I really hate that conversation “ African’s aren’t black” , “ black history belongs to black Americans “ yho yho.

Makeup - the most underrated feeling is getting ready and doing my makeup! It makes me want to attend the function more than anything. I wish there was a function where we just sit down and do our makeup. And in this life ? I’ll be investing in expensive makeup ain’t buying no stocks till I get my hands on that Dior foundation ? I mean what are we investing for this life is short.

having unrealistic dreams - “ what ? like it’s hard “ . I am that daughter yes. The one who everyone thinks is too fancy , who likes things. the trend or rather the “ acceptance “ of braids should probably excite me but it doesn’t , it makes me angry yes it does! black people spent all these years , fighting to be accepted , begging to recognised . “ take of that hair “ if you want to get into a professional space , “ tie your braids properly “ , “ wear your braids neatly in a bun “ even today there are high schools , professional spaces where you can’t get into a room when you have braids on your head. But now it seems like everyone wants to wear braids but no one wants to acknowledge the history but “ why don’t we rebrand them and change history “ and then after we acknowledge the existence of braids , we were them but not as “ braids “ but as “ Viking braids “ . The usage of the term “ Viking “ implies European descent. “ this idea pushes back the deeper and complex of African braiding traditions .

Vikings wore braids therefore braids are also part of European heritage ? , but who tf ? has ever seen a viking in tight stitched cornrows or box braids with a side part ? there is no historical evidence of such claim

and this isn’t a angry black woman who is arguing about who invented braids . it’s about the dehumanising double standards as black people have been punished , discriminated for braiding their hair , policed for their cornrows or rather their “ untidy “ locs. It’s about the failure to understand the depth and complexity of braids in black cultural communities . Before colonialism in Africa braids once represented status , your position in the society and even age .( if you’ve ever watched uShaka ilembe you would’ve noticed Nandi’s hair changes as her position in the society changes ) .

this is what I label as hypocritical behaviour , you discriminate and turn your back and try to claim the exact thing you heavily demonised , you try tell the exact joke you didn’t clap for. Well not everyone has the privilege to sit through a comedy show , discriminate the comedian then host the same exact show .

yes you “ don’t owe anyone loyalty “ but that way of living is foreign to the African soil , it has never been “ixoxo umazigxumela “ but more of “ izandla ziyagezana “ so this new way of living feels like hell . I don’t know whether to say it’s colonial residue or it’s the new lifestyle of “ aura farming “ where we pretend we don’t care hoping to score points from the next person ? or is it a bit of both ?

Our own constitution is embedded within the notion of Ubuntu where it’s defined as an emphasis on communality , interdependence and the recognition of another person’s status as “ human “ , entailed to unconditional respect and dignity . It seems more like we have drifted from that way of living to a society where there’s no communality , the idea of living as a collective has been lost and the spirit of ubuntu is now a folklore sekwaba nje inganekwane exoxwa ngekhwela.

The radical change in the society has us adopting a way of living that rejects the shared identity and belonging and the idea of interdependent “ umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu “ , this is where I blame it on the idea of civilisation that was brought by colonialism , the radical individualism that is largely imported from the colonist and the western liberal thoughts pushing self reliance , shifting the conversation from “we” to “ I “ .

this reminds me of the first time I read The lion and the jewel by Wole Soyinka . Where the character lakunle was so obsessed with the idea of civilisation he became alienated from his African identity by rejecting the cultural customs like the bride price calling it “ barbaric “ and that’s how we lost so much. rejection of cultural customs like bride price ( lobola , bogadi) isn’t the rejection of “ buying a bride “ just like the beliefs of many but it has a deeper meaning of acknowledgment of the brides family and bringing the two families together , it once united villages , clans and tribes and gave African communities a mutual support and the once idea of shared living became lost like that in the journey of “ civilising Africa “ and the rejection of such customs started as way to disregard and assimilate Africans to English common law.

the spirit of ubuntu once functioned a glue , inhlonipho being the centre of it . It’s the same spirit behind the idea “ it takes a village “ but look around where’s the village now ? I never thought we would fall face down to selfishness like this , I barely recognise this way of living maybe so as the ones who once walked this land.

black woman have always been born into a different kinda of freedom . when femininity was framed as minimal , “ make up , no makeup look “ , hide the extension underneath your hair so the men won’t see that isn’t your real hair , black woman did opposite.

we never really lived inside that script , we’ve always rebelled against societal expectations . when being feminine enough centred around appearing natural and concealer that looks like your skin , silk long dresses that won’t intimidate the men in the room , black women did the complete opposite , chunky jewellery , long braids , bold nails , well how about the colourful makeup on melanated skin . black woman rarely treated beauty like something that needed to be hidden. It was never the male centred makeup designed to look natural and enough to satisfy the male gaze but it has always been about femininity worn out loud with blush blindness , long lashes and bright lipstick and that is why most black women move towards boldness not because they’re naturally strong but expressive beauty never taught them to quiet down.

the hair became expression , the makeup became culture , what some people called “ too much” black womanhood embraced it , colour became a norm and that is why I admire the women who wears makeup unapologetically. In a world full of clean girls who hide under concealers and pretend to not wear makeup , I’ll always be grateful to have witnessed an era of the “ UK black makeup “ , those tutorials kept me up at night not just to learn how to do makeup but to admire the women who chooses boldness , the bright under eye , followed by visible blush will always make me stop and stare because to me that is freedom in a world that criticise the loud beauty and call it fake , the braids as unprofessional and the loud jewellery as ghetto.

Black women creating beauty standards outside the dominant norms , pours something it my cup because beauty feels more like expression rather than the performance of being soft and feminine.

as part of my resolution I will wear lashes without feeling fake , the nails without feeling like I am doing too much and this current generation of black woman should stop apologising for the braids , the wigs and the makeup that is expressive to stop feeling fake because being fake starts when you hide bundles under your hair and pretending that it’s natural , to wear mascara as if those are natural lashes.

a wall you say ? In a city already marked by inequality , the proposal of wall ?is symbolic .

Cape Town is one of South Africa’s beautiful cities , the beaches and the mountains it’s truly a lifestyle destination ( take it from me ? the city is gorgeous , it’s truly one of Gods masterpieces) and over the past few years it has became a vacation hotspot and immigration destination as there’s a raise of digital nomads and remote workers ( also illegal immigrants).

as the city becomes more popular and becoming the new it girl .for many South Africans earning in rands it’s becoming increasingly unliveable ( increase in costs of living ) , Rental prices have surged ( long term residents have raised concerns) . Disclaimer : this isn’t hostility towards immigrants but the reality the residents of Cape Town are faced with the local income struggles to compete with the purchasing power of foreign currencies.

as the rental prices sky rocket deepening the inequality we can’t ignore what already exists within our borders , the inequality that long lived not just the one between the foreign national and the South African who earns in rands battling for rent but even before that the city always contained two realities . The overcrowded cape flats , the informal settlements , the average South African in Khayelitsha.

the average South African in the township has carried that heavy weight for years , ignored , forgotten , the inequality is historical and the WALL ? seems like the final nail in the coffin.

If you do not know the wall I’m talking , the Democratic Alliance ( DA ) is planning to construct a 115 million , 9km wall along the N2 highway near the airport ( when you land in Cape Town it’s not beautiful beaches you’re welcomed by ) . They say the purpose of the wall is to prevent crime and improve safety so it’s a “safety wall “ mebesho bona , the wall will be along the N2 highway between the airport and the Cape Town City centre.

and yes I am part of the people who sees this as more than a “ crime prevention wall “ but a final physical barrier between the one in Camps Bay and the who is in an informal settlement , its verification of the two worlds that already exists in the city. It’s an official border line you were really never meant to cross anyway.

In my strong opinion: the wall isn’t just a physical barrier but a representation of the economic priorities of the DA led city of Cape Town and the obsession in turning the city into a tourist pleasurable destination , cause what are you going to say to the European who thought Cape Town was only Camps Bay and Clifton , that there’s more ? the destination dream actually has people who lives shacks and the drives to the hotel will actually expose them to the reality ? Instead of investing in proper housing in informal settlements and increasing the number of RDP houses why don’t we just take 115 million rands and build a wall ? seems about right , to hide the crime behind a wall ? to hide the average person behind the wall. ( That’s how I imagine the conversation before they came to the final decision about the wall went like )

None of them thought about a proper investment plan to develop the communities that are plundering in poverty but all of them thought about a wall that will cover it all up ? If you thought the DA was for the people now you’ve got your answer.

to me this clearly represents the visions they have for the city not affordability , not sustainability , not equality but the vision is the product first and home second.

my question is as the city becomes more desirable to the world , will it remain liveable to South Africans or are we losing the mother city .

Why is everyone talking about apartheid like it was the best time to be alive. I don’t know who specifically sold the narrative to black people that they should vote for political parties like the VF plus because during the apartheid “ life was better “.

this entire lie is spreading faster than covid in 2019 and it’s making my nation dumber by a minute and it’s reshaping the current generation’s view of apartheid .

the main problem is the historical branding of apartheid as only a racial segregation system that only separated blacks from whites , while offering black people , jobs and opportunities to be better , followed by the raise of unemployment rates in south africa the coloniser has gotten the opportunity to market themselves as better leaders , as the leaders who afforded everyone the same opportunities but that’s not what apartheid was!

the apartheid was a brutal genocide against black people , the intent was focused on the destruction of the existence of people that are not white. there weren’t any opportunities for you , there were more chances of a bullet running straight to your head than finding a job at the local shop.

the levels of brutality and violence are not taught in the history books that’s why everyone has shifted their focus from the violence of it , to a political and economic debate giving the boer an opportunity to market their political parties as the best way possible for south africans . the ironic thing is that when they were in power south africa didn’t even belong to South Africans , we south africans became the minority. we became the animals to hunt , slaughter and kill the only opportunity you were afforded was to work as a domestic servant and after that you were brutally beaten when you were deemed as worthless and you didn’t have a voice , they took away your freedom of speech.

stop letting them change the history of apartheid just because the current government is corrupt and it can’t afford job opportunities for the youth ( that is a huge problem on it own ) . they’re brainwashing you to believe that the apartheid government wasn’t corrupt but isn’t corruption when only a certain group is afforded all the rights and privileges while taking your freedom away ? Isn’t corruption when only your skin colour determines whether you can have a professional job or not. Isn’t it corruption when statues like the Native Lands Act were enacted to take away rights to land while promoting cheap labour for them , isn’t corruption when your skin colour determines whether you have a right to vote or not ?

killing during the apartheid wasn’t a crime or sin it was a norm an everyday activity like prayer. the sharpeville massacre is one of the most brutal apartheid events. 69 unarmed black protesters were killed , 180+ were wounded the police opened fire without warning anyone they gunned down civilians like they were shooting dolls in the gun range or how about the soweto uprising ? where students were met with fierce police brutality , there were 176 school kids who were brutally killed by the end of the day and 500+ by the end of the month. the same people who would gun down a 12 year old for refusing to speak afrikaans are the same people you want back in power ? do not let the desperation lead you back to the arms of your oppressor.

my favourite piece of piece of literature is “ in dentation “ by Chris Van Wyk . Van Wyk uses the kind of explanations typically offered by the police for mysterious deaths in detention during the apartheid era, laws were passed which allowed the police to detain people indefinitely without having to give any reason. many people were tortured, some were brutally killed without any explanation , the poem mocks the moments where deaths like Steve Biko’s were publicly blamed on anything but the police . It’s those piece of literature that should be embedded on the history books because it exposes the ruthlessness of the regime , it reminds us that killing innocent black people didn’t even mean that much to them.
