Collectively speaking, we’ve seen how the eclipse shadows have cast over our world, collapsing expected patterns with the terrible catastrophe of the mudslide floods in Nepal, and how they bring about sudden beginnings or endings with the deaths of icons Dolly Parton, Tim Curry, Peter Cullen, and Yayoi Kusama, generating collective upset.

We mere mortals are reminded we are not in control of the world, our world, the way we usually move through it during the sensitive eclipse window.

The solar eclipse in Leo on August 12 stirred hidden, unconscious, and unseen processes beneath the surface. What was initiated then will continue to emerge into awareness through today’s lunar eclipse, with revelations unfolding over the coming weeks.

This eclipse cycle has been personal for me: the solar eclipse activated my annual profected timelord, Mars, and this lunar eclipse activates the most personal degree of my birth chart, the Ascendant. It has in fact initiated a huge cycle of change.

During the previous solar eclipse that occurred in Leo, I found myself navigating disruptive interpersonal conflicts, confronting uncomfortable dynamics that stirred a lot of unconscious responses within my nervous system. I had to tend to a reactive, threatened, and fearful part of my psyche with care until my mind felt safe enough to cultivate clear boundaries.

I’ve observed and experienced the shadow qualities of Leo within and around me. These Leo wounds have included but are not limited to: Self-righteousness, Hard judgements, Ego reactivity, Ego death, Stubborn black and white thinking, Confusing ethics with morals, Superiority complexes, Authoritative wielding of power to assert dominance, Burning bridges for ego gain, Domineering approaches to problems, Stubborn and over-dramatic responses, and Narcissistic tendencies.

In the work of depth psychology, identifying these different parts alive within the psyche that are especially sensitive is the work ahead. Astrology can give us direct insight into the exact moments when we’re most vulnerable, giving us a chance, and a timeline to work through periods of intense discomfort.

Nothing is louder in the psyche than resistance to doing the work and owning where we’re wrong or have wronged. This initiates a process of imperfect rectification and true growth.

In the astrology community, we’re seeing this play out with the public fallout of Stephen Forrest over racist remarks. His resistance to doing the work in the aftermath of his fall was far louder than the quiet pain of ego death required to take personal accountability and initiate a process of repair. He has a long way to go to gain trust back from many members in the community. The shadows of Leo were on full display.

Overall, the wisdom I’ve gained through this eclipse cycle is a major process in clearing the wounds of the reactive nervous system to allow the mind to speak rationally with discernment led by love. We’re being exposed to where there’s a lack of love in the shadows of ourselves as the direct path to healing. Love is the most healing force in the world. It’s our most direct access to the divine. No other sign knows that more than Pisces, where today’s lunar eclipse occurs.

Walking into this next phase of the eclipse cycle, I am not interested in being right. I’m far more interested in where more love can thrive, the kind of love that can be shared in the imperfect messiness of being human.

Lunar Eclipse at 4° Pisces

This lunar eclipse in Pisces, which happens on August 27 to August 28, 2026, depending on where you’re located, coincides with exalted Mercury Cazimi in Virgo, which is incredibly potent. Mercury cazimi is when Mercury enters the heart of the Sun and its power is amplified; It has access to secrets, wisdom previously unable to be accessed. Real AHA! Moments can happen here. The power of the mind is STRONG, capable, measured and productively able to use facts and reason to parse out emotional reactivity.

Despite being connected with the luminaries closely, the only other aspect that Mercury in Virgo makes is a sextile to Mars in Cancer. This shows that whatever emotional obstacles come Mercury’s way (and our own), we’re ready and resourced to work through them. Let the emotional water flow, feeling into what’s ready to be acknowledged.

The Moon in Pisces does not see its ruler Jupiter in Leo. Jupiter is not too far away from the point of the previous solar eclipse point in Leo earlier this month. That means that the shadows of Leo are supported in being healed during this time. Whatever erupted within you will have time to continue to be rationally processed and emotionally worked through with extra support. There’s lots of wisdom to be gained in this process.

Asteroid Mythologies: Zeus and Metis

A powerful mythic story of wisdom, embodiment, power, and strategy comes to the forefront with this lunation. Asteroids Zeus #5731, conjunct the Sun–Mercury cazimi, and Metis #9, conjunct the Moon, are prominently positioned in this Pisces lunar eclipse, bringing their mythic themes into sharp focus.

The lore of the relationship and mythology between Zeus and Metis has lessons for us to see and learn as we move through the rest of the eclipse season.

Metis is a primordial, deep-ocean deity, a Titan who became Zeus’ first wife and trusted advisor. She embodies deep thought paired with strategic intelligence. She is the embodiment of intuitive, cunning intellect. As a Goddess of wise counsel to Zeus, it was Metis who devised the ingenious plan to create a potion that would force Zeus’ father, Cronus (Saturn), to vomit up the siblings he had swallowed so Zeus could take his position as king.

This plan ignited a war that would reshape the universal order, culminating in Zeus’ overthrow of his father and his rise as King of the Gods. Zeus embodies divine authority, controlling the skies, weather and systems of justice. From Mt. Olympus, Zeus divided the realms of power among his siblings, establishing a new divine order.

After the war, in his new seat of power, a prophecy told Zeus that Metis would bear a daughter and then a son, and he would be overthrown just like his father. To eliminate this threat, Zeus swallowed Metis whole while she was pregnant with Athena.

One day, Zeus suffered an excruciating headache. Hephaestus offered him relief by putting an axe to his head. Athena sprang forth, born within him through Metis, emerging from his head. She arrived in the world through her father fully armed, and ready to fight, containing the wisdom within her mother. Metis birthed Athena, who was born from Zeus, and she represents the prototype of the new woman moving through a man’s world.

Eclipse Mythic Themes:

• Nothing in the psyche ever dies: Whatever problems we try to suppress in the psyche will be reborn in a new form, especially when we try to swallow or suppress our innate wisdom. Do we eat our fears, like Zeus, hoping they will go away? What happens when the wisdom we need is also the wisdom we fear and try to control?

• Dominance of Feminine Intelligence: Metis embodies the intelligence Zeus needs to secure his power: she is clever, strategic, prophetic, and capable of anticipating consequences. Yet Zeus fears that same intelligence when it threatens his position. What enables his rise to power becomes something he seeks to control when it exists beyond his authority. He dominates Metis instead of granting her the autonomy to determine how her wisdom and power are expressed.
  

• Strategic Intelligence: Navigating complex systems requires foresight, cunning, adaptability, and the ability to anticipate power. Metis embodies the intelligence that allows us to intuitively and strategically establish and secure our position. What happens when we try to dominate or suppress the very intelligence that made our power possible?
  

• Power and Control: Masculine power attempts to dominate feminine intelligence. How much do we rely on external power to maintain order? How do we remain internally sovereign without being threatened to be controlled by our fears?
  

• Feminine Suppression by Patriarchy: When feminine intelligence threatens masculine authority, it is often suppressed or absorbed rather than allowed to exist autonomously. Feminine power cannot be contained: it transforms, adapts, and births new forms to meet the unique challenges of the times.

What feels especially wild to me is how closely their symbolism mirrors the eclipse signature itself. Metis resonates with Mercury cazimi, highlighting intelligence, strategy, and wisdom of this moment, while Zeus is amplified through Jupiter’s rulership of the Moon, bringing questions of sovereignty, authority, and the spiritual forces that seek to govern our emotional and collective worlds.

For some backstory, at this time last year I was working closely with my dear friend and Egyptian Astrology virtuoso Cameron Cassidy on planning a truly one-of-a-kind pilgrimage through Egypt exploring our ancient heritage — an astrologer’s homecoming, per se. Our goal for this trip was to deepen our exposure to Egyptian mystery teachings through communion with sacred temple sites and Egyptian cosmology.

One cannot understand this without first understanding the power of the myth of Osiris, which permeates the land of Egypt. According to the myth, Osiris, a god of agriculture, fertility, kingship, and social order, was murdered by his brother Set, who dismembered his body and scattered the pieces across Egypt. Osiris’ wife, Isis, journeyed across the land to retrieve and reassemble his remains, restoring his body through the power of her mourning, devotion, and magic. Through this sacred restoration, Osiris became the primordial mummy: transformed from the state of death into a divinely resurrected being. Through his death and resurrection, Osiris became ruler of the afterlife, embodying the Egyptian understanding that death is an eternal cycle of life.

The organization of our journey followed an ancient initiatic precedent that taught the mystical geography of Egypt as the body of Osiris. Each region becomes dedicated to a part of the body of Osiris, where Isis sought and claimed severed pieces of his body after his dismemberment by Set. Starting at the base of the Nile, we moved upward visiting temples from the root at Philae to the crown at Giza.

The power of this trip was in the group, a community of seekers where each individual brought their unique gifts and presence. This includes fellow astrologer and traveler, Shannon Aganza, who generously taught us a Merkaba meditation technique to hold the group during our time traveling through Egypt.

Shannon’s rich, heart-centered work introduced us to the cultivation of the light body through the Merkaba. Taught through the work of Drunvalo Melchizedek, the word Merkaba is traditionally understood as Mer, light or pyramid, Ka, spirit or life force, and Ba, body or personality. The practice activates the body as a counter-rotating vehicle of light, supporting expanded spiritual awareness while using yogic breathwork, visualization, and heart-centered intention to regulate and attune the nervous system.

Three months before the trip, a small group of us began practicing together, integrating the meditation into our daily lives so we could embody the practice before arriving in Egypt. We started a group chat to report our experiences with the practice. During this time I actually discovered that my great-grandfather was Greek born in Alexandria, Egypt, which I never knew before. We dubbed these rapid connections and breakthroughs that each of us were making as, and I quote: “merkabaclipse miracles”.

Looking back, I really do see this period as a preparation for seeding miracles.

Two weeks before the trip, I came down with the flu, and it got me down badddd. I genuinely feared I might not be able to make the journey at all. I had never experienced such profound discomfort or physical pain as an adult. For 10+ days, I laid in darkness, sweating, drifting in and out of sleep, unable to look at the light of any screen. I couldn’t plan, process or prepare anything. I relinquished all control.

I was undergoing a death process. Something in me was dying – spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally – and the experience was profoundly disorienting. I felt frightened and completely stripped of my ability to control what was happening. Things were unfolding beyond my comprehension, and there was nothing I could do but surrender to my body, to the process, and pray for the healing to come.

I cried everyday. I questioned deeply why a lesson in such loss of control and profound surrender was arriving just as I was preparing to lead a group through Egypt. All of my physical strength was stripped from me, and I was emotionally destabilized.

I recovered two days before the trip, and I came onto the journey humbled as ever.

What I would soon quickly learn moving through Egypt, is that I was stepping into a completely different world, one that demanded all of the ways I organize, categorize and move through my life with comfort and control to go to the wayside. I wrote a little about this here.

I could now see that one of the lessons in my illness was that I was getting direct practice in what it would take to actually let myself go there. My ego had to relent and break down all expectations.

Once we arrived in Egypt, the journey moved at a rapid pace: we visited 30 sites in 14 cities across 17 days. We saw fantastic tombs with decanic inscriptions, flew over Luxor in a hot air balloon, cruised up the Nile, invoked Egyptian deities at sacred sites, and woke up each morning to the Adhan, a morning prayer call timed before the rising Sun.

By the time we got to Abydos, mid-journey, we were staying near the temple grounds where, according to Egyptian mythology, Osiris’ head was buried and retrieved by Isis. A most mystical place, in a far out, remote village.

Abydos is most famous for its temple to Seti I (who ruled from 1290 to 1279 BCE) and was the location of the Cult of Osiris. The mystery rites to Osiris were performed here, where the kings would ritually reenact his death, eternal life could be found, and the promise of life after death realized. Here lies the sacred the Osirion, a cenotaph to Osiris, known by even locals for the healing powers of the water.

Our group had a private visit to Osirion planned on the itinerary. Our morning activities ran over time, and we rushed to our site tour. Each of us walked quickly to make up for lost time up the grand steps, ascending 30 ft, to a platform overlooking the majestic temple structure.

It was here, walking up the platform structure, that Shannon lost her footing and fell off of the edge of the 30 ft platform from the top of the temple’s platform foundation.

Time slowed down. I ran down the stairs as fast as I could, moving my legs through the thick sand, which made it feel like it took eternity to get to her.

The way our group banded together to support Shannon in this moment of critical crisis was profound. Unbeknownst to us, a retired nurse of 30+ years was one of the participants on our trip and began taking command of the scene with loving guidance. I was directed to hold her head off the ground, while another was directed to stabilize Shannon’s knees and feet.

With my hands cradling her head, I removed broken glass and sharp rocks around her head that she cleared in her fall. Somehow, not a drop of blood was shed at the scene.

Shannon was remarkably lucid and present with us. Though she was in excruciating pain, and it was not clear the extent of her injuries, she exuded remarkable strength, trust, and surrender under the guidance of our incredible tour guide, Sam.

I felt the protective wings of Isis surrounding all of us, moving through my hands as I held Shannon’s head above the ground. I sobbed, curled into what felt like a child’s pose, while trying to keep my hands as still and steady as possible. I mourned. I grieved. I feared. I believed. I relinquished control and surrendered to the great unknown, to trust in forces moving through us and around us that were far greater than anything I could ever comprehend.

We called in her good doctor karma as we waited for the ambulence, and our calls were heard. Once a month, a spine surgeon from Cairo travels to this small, remote town to make rounds on his patients. By extraordinary coincidence, he happened to be in Sohag that day. Just a few hours later, Shannon became his patient, undergoing surgery that night for the full scope of her injuries: fractured spine, broken tibia, and fractured foot.

After Shannon left the scene, the remainder of our day at Abydos felt entirely surreal. My emotions ran high, and I could feel the time-bending weight of metacosmic space. While wandering through the temple, a relief of Osiris stopped me dead in my tracks: carved into the wall was the exact miraculous scene we had just witnessed. There stood Osiris, with Isis at his head and Horus the Elder at his knees, his feet held by the four Sons of Horus, guardians of the canopic jars, shielding his internal organs.

Additionally, the Djed pillar, a primary symbol seen across the Abydos temple stood out to me everywhere. It’s a representation of Osiris’ spine, raising it to represent resurrection. This symbol made a deep impression on me across the temple walls, with images of Isis and other supporting deities and pharaohs, like Seti I, raising it for Osiris.

After our time at the temple, we walked back to the hotel. I visited the gift shop of relics and fragrant essences. The shop owner greeted me and asked if I had been with the group where the miracle had occurred that day. Some locals had witnessed what happened, and the story had already spread through the small town like wildfire.

I told him that I did, in fact, know the woman, that she was my dear friend, and that I had come to find her a healing gift. I still didn’t know the full extent of Shannon’s injuries, but I knew I wanted to find her an antique Djed pillar, a powerful symbol of stability and strength. He nodded, seemingly knowing exactly what I was looking for, left the store, searched through his inventory in storage, and when he returned, he presented the perfect one.

Shannon spent a month in the hospital in Egypt, returning home a week after our group, when the moon returned to Aries, the sign it was at the start of our trip. While in recovery, she sent me a picture of an x-ray of her spine, fitted with the metal spinal implants from her surgery, superimposed with the Djed pillar on top of the image, a perfectly fit and emblem for her miraculous recovery.

It’s been a little over 6 months since the events of this story took place. Shannon has gone from bedridden, to non-weight-bearing, to walking, and regaining her full mobility. Her remarkable persistence and mental agility throughout her healing process has been an incredible source of inspiration, one that I feel truly honored to have been a part of and stood witness to. Her years of sustained practice disciplining her mind through meditation techniques, her body through ballet (which taught her how to fall so gracefully), and her openness to receiving the healing power of love is nothing short of otherworldly.

Tomorrow, under the Solar Eclipse in Leo, as asteroids Isis and Osiris meet in the heart of the Sun and stand witness to the unfolding of this time, Shannon begins a new chapter. She’s opening the doors to her newest teaching, Unifying the Heart & Mind: Building Your Body of Light, helping others navigate and stabilize in the density and upheaval that eclipse seasons often bring.

Her wisdom has deeply transformed the way I move through the world and hold space for the Divine within. What a gift.

Full Moons bring to light what we need to see, or cannot look away from, and the Aquarius Full Moon is marked by incredible depths and heights. I already wrote about this FM’s connection with the asteroid Anubis which offers a mythic dimension of going the the Hall of Judgement.

The FM’s depth come from the Moon’s conjunction with Pluto, which demands facing the truth at all costs. Whatever house the Moon moves through will ask you to confront toxic patterns, and bring your shadows to light. Limitations will be reached. Physical or symbolic death will take place. Purging toxicity will occur. Relinquishing control is demanded.

The heights, and I mean incredible, heights of this lunation come from Jupiter’s cazimi, being in the heart of the Sun. This is a gift from the Gods. Jupiter is the greater benefic, supported by the Sun in it own domicile in Leo. This boost to Jupiter’s power is undeniable. The capacity for richness is unmatched. It brings good luck and fortune. Like the Moon, Jupiter cazimi also seeds a place in our birth charts where there’s opportunity for growth and spiritual development.

About the Aquarius Full Moon

Wednesday, July 29, 2026: Full Moon at 6° 30’ Aquarius

This Aquarius full moon marks a turning point in the year and a launch pad for the momentum that will take us through the rest of the year. I’ve found myself on the move and in transition and am particularly looking forward to the abundance of fixed energy that this Full Moon has to offer to ground, reflect, and reorient in preparation for the upcoming eclipse cycle in August.

Full Moons bring to light what we need to see, or cannot look away from, and this FM is marked by a dramatic tension between light and dark, heights and depths, and life and death. In essence, something is dying to make room for something new to be born. This can be identities, attachments, patterns….you probably already know what it is. Whatever it is that first comes to mind, take note.

The light of this lunation can be found through Jupiter moving into the heart of the Sun, an alignment traditional astrologers call cazimi. This alignment is especially powerful because the Sun itself is in Leo, its home sign, so as Jupiter joins the heart of the Sun, its qualities of creativity, friendship, protection, generosity, abundance, and justice are illuminated and strengthened by solar effluence. This is one of the most fortunate positions a planet can occupy, because it is said to be in the King’s chamber, receiving special blessings of a divine nature. There is immense support in communing with God (or whatever divine source sustains you in life) during this time.

Speaking of justice, it is an especially significant topic during this full moon, because the Moon reflects the fullness of her light by directly encountering Pluto through a conjunction, which demands facing the truth at all costs, even if it puts us on the outside. Pluto compels us to confront our darkness and toxic patterns, bringing our shadows to light to be seen and worked through. Whatever Pluto touches dies and takes new form, demanding an incredible relinquishing of control that can feel scary and uncomfortable. The process of purging sees that we face our hidden fears and the consequences of our actions. Any lasting changes from this lunation will come from a more humble position.

The importance of seeing and tending to the parts of ourselves that need to consciously die cannot be understated. Our culture has lost touch with rituals that honor and sanctify the process for grief and death, which are incredibly transformative forces that can facilitate the greatest change and empowerment to being more in tune with the flow of life.

In ancient Egyptian tradition, Anubis was an important God venerated as the bestower of truth, of sacred dying, and confronting fear of death directly. The asteroid Anubis (#1912) conjoins the Sun and Jupiter in this lunation, bringing attention to and honoring the parts of ourself that are ready to die.

Anubis was the god of mummification and sacred funerary rites that prepared the bodies of the deceased for their journey into the afterlife, anointing the dead with sacred oils to ensure their soul could be free to bring its gifts into the next life. The FM is a potent time hold ceremony for our most vulnerable parts, anointing our bodies as vessels for rebirth.

In Egyptian myth, Anubis presided over the weighing of the heart ceremony in the Hall of Judgement, a ritual in which the heart, believed to contain the full record of a person’s actions, integrity, and moral character, was weighed against the feather of Ma’at, the goddess of truth, justice, and cosmic order.

Anubis fiercely cut through illusion, revealing the truth within the depths of the soul. He decided whether a soul reached paradise or annihilation. This act invoked deep seated fear in those who faced him in the final judgement as he effortlessly banished those who dwelled in the narrow limits of ego-consciousness.

Facing this ritual judgement revealed the ways that fear, death, and fear of death shake and shape our consciousness. During this lunation, we’re in a metaphorical Hall of Judgement, facing Anubis to see the balance, or lack-thereof, on our scales of justice, according to our own self-imposed standards. Use this time to critically assess what weighs on your heart, so it can be acknowledged, felt, and released; Any release, no matter how big or small, subtle or dramatic, is a blessing.

Speaking to the energy of this lunation, I am reminded of what my yoga teacher in NYC, Kavi Patel, used to say in shavasana (aka corpse pose). At the end of each practice, he would invite us to settle into to the quiet place within ourselves and connect to “the inner effulgence of [our] heart.” In the face of the inevitable reality of death (that we cannot escape, even symbolically at the end of every yoga class) he reminded us of the radiant light that connects us to our True Self that persists within our soul. That is the gift the Moon's light can awaken within us: the capacity to find inner peace even in the presence of death.

My prayers for this lunation are as follows….may we find discipline to witness our fears without reacting to them. May we discover renewed strength in the presence of the dying. May we hold what needs to die while simultaneously tending to what needs to birth.

About the Cancer New Moon

New Moons initiate a cycle of growth, making them an ideal time to set intentions and consciously seed new beginnings. This is especially important ahead of next month’s eclipse season, when the lunar cycle shifts from conscious realization into a phase of release, revelation, and reorientation, so don’t sleep on the power of this Cancer New Moon! So what are you birthing?

The Moon is at home in Cancer, where she is most resourced and able to express her nurturing nature with ease. Generous and soul-inspired, Cancer offers a sanctuary where the Moon can return to feel and be fed, replenished, and restored emotionally. Cancer seeks to find and foster security. It is an excellent time to revisit a creative project, reconnect with an abandoned passion, rework unfinished business, or recover artistic gifts and talents that may have been left behind long ago. Cancer moves through time cyclically, continuously revisiting, re-entering, and re-living experience from a deeper place reminding us we can always begin again from where we left off, no matter how much time has passed.

The new moon’s next significant aspect is a square to Saturn, asking for an honest assessment of how we seek nourishment, security, and emotional support. Old fears, particularly those rooted in experiences of separation, rejection, or unmet needs, may rise from the depths seeking acknowledgment and ready to be witnessed in order to be released. Tensions can rise where wounds have us operating from a reactive unconscious place. Seek support to look at the rejected, hard places within to move through obstacles with more acceptance and self-compassion. Saturn’s lessons emerge through patience, time, maturity, and vulnerability.

Ultimately, this is a supportive lunation for deep healing, for luxuriating in life’s pleasures, and for cultivating tender connections from raw places. It’s also a supportive moment for reconnecting with the power of maternal love, through your own mother or the archetype of the Great spiritual Mother, by giving back to the Earth and to life itself. Cancer comes to truth through subtle movements of the soul and relationships that are mutually beneficial. In honoring our needs for care, receiving, and belonging, we create the inner conditions for genuine renewal.

Marriage is a threshold, an initiation from one way of being in the world into another. It is alchemical and magical: a sacred unfolding of love, partnership, and possibility. While I am keeping my birth name, Amy Angelo, I feel transformed by the deep witnessing of love we experienced on our special day.

Since our engagement in 2024, Grant and I have been dreaming up the wedding of our dreams in Sonoma, California, lovingly known as the Valley of the Moon. The name came from local Miwok and Pomo Native Americans, but was popularized by local author Jack London, whose adventurous life and prolific creativity made him an American legend.

During our wedding weekend, we paid homage to Jack London by visiting his namesake Historic State Park, touring his home in Glen Ellen, learning about his adventurous life, and deepening our connection to the land that held our celebration. In a meaningful synchronicity, his biological father, William Henry Chaney, was a prolific nineteenth century American pioneer and astrologer.

A quote from the exhibit displayed above the fireplace in Jack London’s home deeply moved me:

This passage beautifully reflected Grant and my shared intention to step outside of convention and infuse our wedding with our own individualized presence allowing our love to be shared, expressed and emotionally embodied.

After eight years of partnership, almost to the exact week we first met, completing a full Venus synodic cycle, we arrived at St. Francis Winery and Vineyards, a place of breathtaking beauty and quiet ease. Held by blooming nature and surrounded by loved ones from near and far, we were grounded in a deeply spiritual ceremony at sunset. We exchanged our vows overlooking the Mayacamas Mountains, a literal backdrop with profound symbolic resonance, as the entire experience of wedding planning often felt like climbing one.

Our dear friends offered their gifts in ways that honored and deepened the ceremony. Our officiant and kundalini yoga teacher, Abhaijot Kaur, opened and powerfully held the space. Drew Levanti, who elected the date of our nuptials, shared an Orphic hymn to Hestia, goddess of the home, hearth, and sacred flame. Danny Santos sang an Icaros prayer, a shamanic blessing from the Shipibo lineage in Peru that seemed to have inspired the winds to blow and birds to fly and sing.

In that shared space, together with all of our friends and family as witness, we reached a magnificent summit, a transcendent culmination of honoring our sacred union. Our commitments of “I do” that officially and legally consecrated us occurred at exactly 6:46 pm (timestamp meticulously provided by the group of astrologers present)

Astrologically speaking, this moment marks a significant culmination of my Saturn return, which unfolded in my 7th house of marriage, commitment, and long-term partnership. Saturn’s lessons of devotion, respect, and maturity in relationships shaped this chapter in profound ways. It often delayed desires in order to ensure strong foundations were built. It is Saturn who stress tests our greater commitments to reaffirm whether they are worthy of our devotion, teaching us patience, maturity, and a love that can endure along the way. Personal reflections of my own Saturn return in Pisces were themes around reaching crisis to commune directly with the divine, and learning to trust in a higher power that sustains and nourishes our depths in order to breakthrough to reach new heights.

Venus, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, exalted in Pisces, is also in my 7th house of marriage and partnership generously overseeing this place and bestowing great gifts. She was receiving a partile trine from exalted Jupiter in Cancer by transit throughout the evening. Her influence inspired me to weave a dreamy, romantic, and transcendent expression of love into every facet of our celebration: through song and dance, prayer and ceremony, beauty and delight. On the eve of our wedding, Venus herself appeared, shining brightly in the evening sky, offering her light as we gathered in joy, love, and laughter.

My wedding dress was a particularly meaningful expression of my Venusian vision: a custom-made gown by my dear friend, Dylan Mekhi. With his otherworldly talent, he created an ethereal, deeply personal garment that embodied whimsical, enchanting, and mesmerizing beauty. Working with him across this experience was a dream fully realized.

Incredible Asteroid Signatures Research

The elected chart of the wedding, as previously mentioned, was carefully chosen by Drew Levanti, and revealed striking asteroid synchronicities.

My understanding of these celestial layers has been shaped through my studies with the world-renowned astrologer Demetra George, who is also a dear friend and was present at the wedding. In her teachings, asteroids are understood as subtle but potent archetypal forces whose placements at key points in a chart illuminate our connection or resonance with a soul, deity, myth, or archetype throughout our lives. Seen through this lens, the wedding chart was alive with meaning as it was an intricate mythic tapestry that reflected the fatedness present in the union itself.

In my own natal chart, the asteroid Grant (#3154) is at Venus’ exalted degree at 27 Pisces within two degrees of my natal Venus in Pisces. Additionally, the asteroid Pythia (#432) is conjunct with my natal Venus, too, and amazingly St. Francis Winery is on Pythian road, a very literal and validating nod from the Pythia themselves.

In ancient Greek times, the Pythia were revered as the most powerful high priestesses in service to the Sun God Apollo. Seated at Delphi, they delivered sacred revelations and divine counsel to those who sought their guidance. I felt connected to Pythia because of their role in the divination arts, which mirrored my own work as an astrologer.

When Grant and I found ourselves at St. Francis Winery in Sonoma, California, we both knew it was right because of its location amplified by the simple and elegant beauty of nature. The patron saint of the winery, St Francis of Assisi (1181–1226) , was an Italian friar who renounced a life of wealth to embrace simplicity, poverty, charity, and a profound connection with the natural world. Founder of the Franciscan orders, he is known for being the beloved patron saint of animals and ecology.

When I asked Grant whether he had a special association to St. Francis, he told me that in high school he traveled on a school trip abroad to Italy. The itinerary included stops in Florence, Rome, and Assisi. He felt like Assisi was an unusual stop for a traditional public-school program, but he recalled how it became one of the most memorable places he visited, with a certain power and magic.

The story of St. Francis has always resonated with Grant because he felt drawn to nature and the living world. St. Francis’s message of stewardship of the earth, which feels deeply aligned with values that continue to guide his life. As Grant and I reflect on our shared goals and the life we want to build together, being good stewards of the land is one of them.

Of course, there are asteroids named after St. Francis, the asteroid Assisi (#15342). There is also an asteroid Francis (#2050). My connection to Francis is a little more personal: my middle name is Frances, and it was actually intended to be my first name until the day of my birth. However, when I was born, my parents made a last-minute decision to name me Amy instead. Because of that, Frances, a family name, has significantly orbited my consciousness throughout my life. Interestingly, the asteroid Francis (#2050) happens to be conjunct with my natal Ascendant. Francis holds two distinct meanings, speaking to the story of my birth and origins while also becoming a prominent placement for my marriage.

While Asteroids were absolutely not considered by Drew when electing the marriage chart, I decided put in all of the asteroids discussed throughout the article – Francis (#2050), Assisi (#15342), Pythia (#432), Hestia (#46), Vesta (#4), Grant (#3154) in addition my own named asteroid Amy (#3375). To my complete surprise they all held positions with tight orbs on prominent planets and points within the marriage election chart.

Asteroids Grant and Amy, the groom and bride, closely flank the Ascendant degree. Venus conjoins Assisi and Pythia, reinforcing my natal Pythia–Venus signature and highlighting a blessed connection to the location’s patron saint St. Francis himself. Frances illuminates the setting Sun, while Hestia and Vesta moving through the sky together form a close conjunction to Saturn within three degrees.

In all my years working with asteroids, I have never selected a group of asteroids in which every single one is positioned so powerfully. The power of this election was certainly confirmed by the positions of each of these asteroids, divinely aligned.

I am tuned into a sense of awe, a self-expansive experience that softens the boundaries of the self, inviting a sense of a larger, more interconnected reality. This is the closest I can come to naming what I felt witnessing the remarkable parade of asteroids so finely aligned with the birth chart of our marriage on the most meaningful day of our life together.

Overall, this experience of marriage has left me feeling deeply moved and profoundly grateful. All in all, my body is exhausted, my mind is electrified, and my soul is fulfilled.

“How we look at the sky informs what we see” - AA

The energy of this full moon brings me back to time spent in my psychoanalyst’s office in Midtown Manhattan. “There is no single truth, everyone has their own” he said in response to something I was working through with a conviction and clarity that made me understand it was his own intrinsic knowing.

Two things happened in that mutable moment:

1. I knew he was a Gemini (my hypothesis was eventually confirmed)
2. I understood the power of my own natal Jupiter in Sagittarius placement that maintains a sensibility that there’s unified, universal truth underlying reality

This interaction challenged me. It offered a teaching that showed me the way Gemini dismantles beliefs with reason and how Sagittarius pursues unified truth expressed through many forms of wisdom and knowledge.

Asteroid Mythologies: Danaë

We can draw insight from the asteroid Danaë (61), which conjoins the Sun at 11° Taurus during the Scorpio Full Moon this lunation cycle. The asteroid was discovered by French astronomer Hermann Goldschmidt on September 9, 1860, from his balcony in Paris, France, and named by fellow asteroid hunter Robert Luther when Goldschmidt fell ill. Luther chose to name the asteroid after Perseus’s mother, Danaë.

Danaë’s story is one from Greek mythology that began when her father, King Acrisius, consulted the Oracle of Delphi over concerns of not having a male heir to further his family name. When the Oracle prophesied that he would never have a son, but his grandson was destined to kill him, Acrisius imprisoned his daughter Danaë to prevent the prophecy from coming true.

But the gods are not so easily deterred. Zeus, King of the Gods (who was the last lunation’s patron asteroid), pursued Danaë, entering her bedchamber as a golden rain shower. From this secret union, Perseus was born.

King Acrisius burned with rage at the audacity of the claim that his daughter had given birth to a child of a god, from Zeus himself. His fury was deep, but not reckless. He would not risk the guilt of murder and the vengeance from the Furies. He sealed Danaë and her son in a wooden chest and cast them out to sea. They survived by the graces of Poseidon, and washed up to the shore on the island of Seriphos in the Aegean Sea. A new hero was born.

Danaë’s Collective Mythic Themes:

Belle is a maddening character, a bystander in her own life, profoundly disconnected from the present. She is a woman who seems like she has it all: wealth, power, intellect, social status, yet her confidence and ability to stand up for herself lacks integrity. Her detachment certainly stems partly from privilege, but more so from her idealistic tendencies that leave her disconnected from her body and the reality around her.

Throughout the story, she moves along a path of self-disempowerment, repeatedly choosing to trust, and be defined by, men with narcissistic tendencies. This pattern begins with her father, a product of his generation, which normalized problematic behaviors, and later reemerges in her marriage to a cold, calculated narcissist.

Throughout the book, Burden idolizes her father, willingly living in the magnitude of his shadow of his power and prestige. In doing so, she makes choices that are less about her own identity and more about earning his approval. She abandons her passion for writing to join a law firm, taking on work that does not align with her values or interests. It is there, in her misaligned life, that she meets her husband, who took interest in her only after finding out about her esteemed father’s donated collection at the Morgan Library.

The sudden loss of her father, after he secretly takes diet pills that ultimately stop his heart, throws her world into chaos, a devastation that mirrors the way her husband later vanishes without warning or explanation, leaving her life in shambles once again. These losses force her into an unfamiliar position of taking accountability for herself, her future, and the life she must rebuild on her own.

Astrological Analysis

As an astrologer, I became curious about the transits that befell her during this critical crisis of her life. While her birth details are not published online, in the memoir she mentioned that in 2020 her husband left her at age 50, and that her birthday is May 6, so her year of birth is probably 1969. While we don’t have an exact time of her birth, we’ll explore the transits at a glance

• Looking at her chart at large, it is clear that writing is supported as being one of the supportive and generative parts of her life with a strong Mercury in Gemini. All pathways through each planet in her chart drive back to Mercury, amplifying its potency, power and authority in her nativity. This accounts for her comfort in her mind over her body, and the detachment she required to analyze her surroundings and place in the world that she exhibited throughout her narrative.

• In the book she mentioned that she got married June 5, 1999, which was during her Saturn return. The Saturn return is a critical moment in establishing new foundations of life, most often through marriages, children, jobs and other foundational life events.
  
  Before her marriage, she signed a prenuptial agreement at her future husband’s urging that granted him a share of her assets, leaving her in a vulnerable position. That decision set the stage for everything that followed in the aftermath of the divorce.

• The signature of her natal Venus in Aries, the ruler of romance and relationships, is that she tends to fall in love head first. Romance for this Venus placement happens fast and furious, with undeniable sexual attraction. If the foundation isn’t strong, the passion can leave just as quickly as its ignition. This proved to be true in her love story: the timeline of her relationship moved quickly, within months, and ended as quickly as it began. It is this Venus that rules over her natal Saturn and its activities and outcomes
  

  

• On March 22, 2020, when the news of the husband’s affair came out, Saturn moved into Aquarius, exactly squaring her natal Saturn at 0 degrees Taurus. Hard Saturn transits show us where we fall short, ways that we’re not taking accountability for the long-term in the face of road-blocks and obstacles.
  
  Her natal Saturn is generally in challenged condition, ruled by Venus in Aries, in detriment and in aversion to its ruler, which means that there are blind spots that she has to consciously navigate throughout her life in regards to Saturnian foundations, limits, and responsibilities. The long-term strength of Saturn is compromised in bringing consistent, reliable outcomes for her benefit. When Saturn gets challenged, the issues that it rules over bring dramatic events. I am unsure which houses Saturn rules over, because we don’t know her birth time, so we can leave it at this.
  

• In March 2020, her natal Saturn also had a conjunction within 2 degrees from Uranus in Taurus, demanding drastic unexpected changes that stirs the foundations of safety and security. Saturn in Taurus yearns for a good plan and roadmap to bring stability and consistency. This direct challenge to her material security became one of the greatest fears she had to grieve and process her divorce.
  

• At the time of publication of her book, in January 2026 Pluto came into the early degrees of Aquarius to square her natal Saturn. I imagine she’s probably faced many fears in publishing her book from retaliation to social isolation. It’s probably felt like a massive shedding that’s deeply vulnerable. She’s breaking a cycle of abuse by sharing her story that she herself was not able to overcome. The risk she took to share her work will pay off and rewrite her legacy

Burden’s story is sad, tragic even, but doesn’t come close to horror stories of divorce women across the country and world face daily. The interest in her story is strengthened by her strong writing skills, but also from the lineage that predates her. This story will soon become a Hollywood adaptation that has captured a cultural moment, a wave that will continue to expand its reach in the current milieu.

The depth of psychological inquiry I engaged in over the past year and a half, through psychoanalysis three times a week, was among the most important work of my life. It would not have been possible without the structure and flexibility of being a full-time graduate student, a privilege I don’t take lightly.I am deeply grateful for the time and commitment that made it possible to turn inward and face the depths.

In true Saturnian style, I worked through persistent (lifelong) anxiety and endured the disorienting experience of losing control. I shed tears from deep places and faced precognitive and preverbal fears that can only be felt, not explained. Each of these existential experiences demanded that I stay with profoundly uncomfortable feelings, held in compassionate care under an analytic eye (Saturn style, of course).

Saturn brings us to our limits and, in doing so, invites us to contemplate our place within and beyond boundaries. It’s within this space, both bound and boundless, hard on the outside, yet potent and vulnerable on the inside, that the most meaningful work unfolds, and something new takes shape to stand on its own.

This post-Saturn return era, still deeply imbued with Saturnian influence, has proven to offer a far greater spiritualizing force than I ever could have ever imagined. Nothing short of miraculous.

It has taken me by surprise, yet granted me access to the divine within, the dimension of the psyche that communes with God / Spirit, connected to something far more autonomous that I am in service to.

Tending to it seems to require something like belief in its power, but belief isn’t quite right. It feels more like seeing clearly, perhaps for the first time, what has always been there, waiting to be witnessed. It’s hardwired within me, as undeniable as the color of my eyes. I don’t have to believe my eyes are blue; they simply are.

My resistance to recognizing this part of myself, whatever it is, and whatever it’s becoming, was at the heart of my work with Saturn. Trying to explain or understand it through the frameworks I’ve used before doesn’t hold up. Those ways of knowing fall short. It asks for a different kind of awareness altogether, something new to take root and grow.

Saturn’s Ancient Correspondences

As Saturn has expanded my understanding of time, its weight, its limits, its responsibility, its pressures it also drew me toward pondering its association in ancient ideas and cultures in my graduate studies.

Over the past few years, I’ve found myself contemplating Saturn’s influence with increasing intensity. It’s malefic stature, it’s long-standing cycles of time, its mysterious association with water.

My peer Joey Cannizzaro and I had a rich conversation for a Kepler College web series, exploring Saturn’s ancient associations with agriculture, stone, floods, and skin.

We trace how Saturn has taken on divine forms across cultures, expressed through different deities and symbolic correspondences.

Zeus has once again returned to Aries, amplifying this lunation with a surge of intensity of mythic proportion.

In the Greek mythology, Zeus reigns as King of both gods and humankind. He is a patriarchal father-figure who governs over the sky, weather, kings, justice, hospitality, and maintenance of civic and cosmic order.

Regarded as omnipresent and omnipotent, he wields thunderbolts as instruments of divine authority. Lightning and thunder serves as intimidating symbols of his loud will and thundering power with storms and tempests being seen as manifestations of his divine action and reaction to worldly events.

The eagle, his sacred bird, symbolizes his dominion from great heights, its piercing vision positioned as a resource to strike its prey with unnerving agility.

His rule, however, was never without contest or challenge. Zeus overthrew his father, Kronos, to claim his throne, and battled against giants and epic monsters, most notably Typhon, to establish his position as the ruler of both divine and mortal realms.

In myth, he is married to Hera, Queen of the Gods, though their union is famously strained by Zeus’s prolific affairs, which often ignite Hera’s jealousy and retribution.

Zeus is also an abundant force of fertility, who fathered a vast lineage of gods and heroes with an impressive legacy, including the Muses, the Horae (Fates), Aphrodite, Ares, Hephaestus, Hebe, Eileithyia, Apollo, Artemis, Athena, Hermes, Dionysus, Perseus, Heracles, Persephone, Helen, and Pollux, among others.

Fast forward to 2019, I had an astrology reading with Demetra George where she revealed to me that the asteroid Melusina was conjoined to the ascendant in my birth chart. She asked, “Do you have any connection with mermaids?” I was stunned by the poignancy and deep resonance of this simple question. As she shared the myth of the two-tailed mermaid Melusina, I walked to my room and gazed upon the art of Melusina standing tall on my bedside table who had already found me and inspired my creative process. I confirmed that I have a compelling connection with mermaids, specifically Melusina. Her imagery has surrounded me throughout my life in many dimensions of reality. I recognized that I had only scratched the surface of the deeper meaning of her presence in my life.

Who is Melusina?

Melusina (asteroid #373) is a mermaid figure from medieval European folklore. Her iconography is of a female body from the waist up and two tails from the waist down. She possesses an enhancing and youthful beauty characterized by blonde hair and crystal-clear blue eyes. She finds ease in worldly pleasures and lives as a Christian noble with status and wealth.

At least once a week each Saturday, Melusina vanishes into the water of her locality and makes an elusive transformation into a mermaid. She is often called a nymph, siren, fairy, and witch. In her serpent form, she conjures supernatural powers that may contribute to her material abundance on the earthly plane. However, her supernatural, serpentine form comes from a curse placed on her by her immortal mother, Pryssine.

Mythic Themes from her being:

• Duality of Being, Paradox of Origins: There is a dual nature to Melusina who is half human and half fairy. She exists in the place of duality and paradox - never quite fitting into one world or another: is she an angel or demon? blessing or curse? natural or supernatural?

Origins of Melusina

Melusina’s mermaid origins begin with a curse placed on her by her mother, Pryssine. Pryssine, an immortal fairy, crossed paths with King Elbas, a mortal man who fell in love with her at first sight. Pryssine marries Elbas under the strict condition that he give her privacy while she gives birth. Months later, Pryssine became pregnant with triplets.

As the birth process began, Pryssine forewarned Elbas to stay away until she granted him permission to see their children. During her labor, Elbas felt a deep sense of concern he could not hear screams of pain from her birthing place. Unbeknownst to him, fairy births differ from human births because they are painless experiences of joyous initiation into the world. Elbas, overcome with anxious excitement, barged into Pryssine’s birthing tent. Upon entering the forbidden birthing tent, he witnessed Pryssine facilitating a sacred transmission of magical powers, an essential right of passage to the lineage of fairies.

Pryssine was devastated that he broke his promise to her, and she felt she had no choice but to flea to Avalon, the lost island of the fairies. In Avalon, she knew Elbas could never find her or her daughters, and it was there where Pryssine raised her three girls Meusine, Melior, and Palatine. Each day, Pryssine would bring her girls on top of a mountain to overlook the kingdom of Alba that would have been their home before their exile.

One day Melusina became curious about why they left Alba in the first place. For the first time, Pryssine recalled the painful story of her father’s broken promise. This tale of betrayal enraged Melusine. She initiated a plan with her sisters to seek revenge on her father for hurting her mother. With Melusina taking the lead, the sisters used their magical powers to collect Elbas’ riches and lock him away in a mountain, condemning him to death.

Pryssine, enraged by her daughters’ cruelty, condemned this harsh punishment of her husband Elbas. In retaliation, Pryssine punished each daughter for their role in this tragedy. Melusine, who instigated this plot, received the worst punishment. She was banished from her home in Avalon and given a curse that made her transform into a monstrous two-tailed serpent from the waist down every Saturday.

This punishment did not only impact Melusina, but any man who she chose to marry. The curse required a pact with her future husband to never lay eyes on her on Saturdays. If a man were to obey this promise, the marriage would find peace and contentment. However, if the promise was violated, the marriage would dissolve and she would remain in her serpent in perpetuity.

Mythic Themes from her origins:

• Feeling Unworthy or Cursed: Cursed by a feeling of unworthiness or rejection. What makes Melusina unique is what also isolates her and is the core cause of her suffering.

Melusina first punished her father to defend her mother’s honor. Then, Melisina’s mother punished Melusina for the harm she caused her father. There are cross-generational wounds and betrayals: through her mother she is connected to immortality, but also banishment. Through her father she is connected to humanity, but not accepted.

Melusina & Raymond

The relationship between Melusina and her chosen husband Reuven is complicated. The setting of their romance takes place in the European crusades when Melusina found Reuven, a Jew, dead on the steps of a cathedral. His wife and child did not survive the violence, and he surely believed he died a martyr and would wake up in the afterlife. Melusina found him lifeless, and used her magical powers to revive him in exchange sought his unconditional love and privacy on Saturdays. In this act of resurrection, which both saved and trapped Reuven, Melusine said: “It is of the greatest importance that I be loved by a mortal man with an immortal soul. I could never trust a man whom I had not forged with my own hands.” (Bassman)

Melusina transformed Reuven, the jewish merchant, into Raymond, the Christian noble. They were married right away. In their vows, the condition that she be left alone on Saturdays without question was emphasized and reaffirmed. She built them a castle with her will and magic and bestowed many gifts upon him including two blonde, beautiful sons. Raymond loved her dearly with blind love and passion.

However, as time went on, Raymond struggled to release his old identity as a middle class Jewish merchant and struggled with his new Christian wealthy noble status. There was no room in their relationship for his old self, which left him feeling increasingly isolated and unseen. He felt that since Melusina saved him, he was indebted to her and owed her all of his love, but no matter how much he tried to assimilate into his new life, Raymond felt a tug at his soul. Something was not right. He began to question the conditions and confines of his current reality, which put the love he had for Melusina into question.

One day, Raymond reached a breaking point. He was lost and desperate for answers, so he went to a secret meeting in the forest at sunset to seek counsel from a wise Jewish mystic. The wise man told Raymond that Melsuina was an evil demon, carrying a dark supernatural force that he must remove himself from.

Raymond agrees to separate himself from Melusina physically, emotionally and spirituality. Melusina breaks down in agonizing anxiety as Raymond withholds his love from her. The impact on her is serious: she loses her youthful beauty, and he becomes even more repulsed by her seeing her as a witch. She persistently pushes for his acceptance, putting him in a position to continue rejecting her. The trust and communication between them erodes as the desperate power dynamic shifts.

Raymond is maddened by Melusina’s secret Saturday trysts with his new demonized vision of her. He is suspicious about her motives and nature. His uncertainty about her is core to her elusive and mysterious nature; To be a woman alone in the natural world generates accusations of witchcraft feeding into the subconscious fear of powerful women. He is tortured by his negative projections of her, and his only power is to defend himself from her.

Tortured by his doubt, Raymond breaks his promise to Melusina in a tragic confrontation. He enters her underground, watery realm one Saturday to see for himself who is hiding in the darkness. She intuits he’s there before she sees him and demands him to reveal himself in his treachery. She scolds him while writhing in pain and reveals herself as a serpentess in a devastating and vulnerable exchange. She must return to the water and is fated to maintain her serpent form for eternity.

Mythic themes from her Relationship with Raymond:

• Anxious Patterns Romantic love: a tenacious need for romantic love to be met paired with a profound fear that the love you seek will never be fulfilled.

• Conditional vs Unconditional Love: the experience of being loved only if or when a condition is met or projecting that pattern onto a partner.

• Secrecy & Privacy: Hiding a part of oneself from the world, especially those parts of self that are rejected. Melusina requires a significant amount of privacy to feel at ease in her own skin.

• Material Reality vs Emotional Truth: A deep desire to ease material suffering of the human condition with desire to bypass the psychic wounds that ail the soul while navigating the false idea that material comforts will lead the soul to rest. There is an over reliance on engaging with reality in a superficial way.

• Paradox of Needing a Man & Control Over Men: Desire to have power and control over men paired with the belief or experience that men cannot and will not keep their promises and therefore cannot be trusted

Melusine & Alchemy

My dear friend traveled to Tycho Brahe’s house and texted me a photo of Melusina. Her message led me on a quest to understand the alchemical roots of Melusina’s legacy. Melusine’s alchemical connection predates Brahe and was enthusiastically explored by Paracelsus, a famous 16th century alchemist, astrologer, and early medical practitioner. Paracelsus describes Melosinae, which he also calls Undines, as elemental water spirits that take human form as their primary embodiment, followed by an assumed animal form with the tail of a snake or fish.

Melusines are water dependent, like humans are dependent on air to breathe. Even though man and Melusines operate in different worlds, Melusine needs a man. According to Paracelsus, Melusines have souls but lack spiritual principles that lead to salvation. Marriage with men initiates their spiritual foundation giving her access to an immortal soul. The initiation of the relationship between Melusine and man is always initiated by her, but the longevity of the relationship is dependent on the faithfulness and loyalty of the man.

In the world of alchemical fantasy, Melusina “lives in the blood”. This gives her access to inner sanctum and substance of humans. She calls them from the depths longing for a soul and redemption. She is an echo of the unconscious soul seeking to be integrated into the human experience through conscious awareness. (ARAS)

Even though Melusine takes human form, she is not entirely of this world and holds a consciousness that according to Paracelcus is, “not dependent on our sphere of existence, but they have a firmament of their own. They have their own particular conditions, places of dwelling, localities, stars and planets.” (Hartmann, 91) In essence, she is of another universe in this very universe. Her consciousness extends far beyond our world into an unknown place, into the realm of the mysteries.

Carl Jung recalls from his studies of Paracelsus that “the birthplace of Melusina is the womb of the mysteries, obviously what we today would call the unconscious.” (ARAS) In the womb, all humans resemble fish with tails and gils surrounded by amniotic fluid. It is in the aquatic space of the womb where human consciousness is developed, a process that is as mysterious as it is miraculous.

Melusina’s consciousness may come to us from a place before the womb, the incubator of life. This place may resemble paradise, as she is often described as being in a paradisal state. As Paracelcus shares, her consciousness comes from somewhere else is the cosmos, a place where heavenly ideals may thrive. Her arrival to the terrestrial realm bridges unconscious aspects of ourselves to a celestial consciousness that predates our arrival to earth.

My Personal Connections to Melusina: Imagery and Myth

As a native with the Asteroid Melusina on my ascendant, I have found her imagery throughout my life in many obvious and subtle ways. I grew up on the beach in Florida, and my family’s backyard is the ocean. There are literally hundreds of visuals and statues of Mermaids in my family home.

In my hometown, My father has done business for decades with Starbucks, whose logo is the two-tailed Melusina.

Furthermore, My mother was born into a Jewish family, while my father was raised Christian, creating a natural duality in my religious upbringing.

I recently discovered that my family’s tie to serpents, snakes, and mermaids predates their immigration to America on my mother’s side. My maternal grandfather’s family immigrated from Pruzhany, Poland/Belarus/USSR, and I was awestruck to see that this town’s coat of arms was an emblem of a snake devouring a person or a person emerging from a snake.

More research about the town of Pruzhany revealed that today the town has entwined mermaids in the city center. This serpent and water nymph imagery predates me and has been imprinted on my ancestors for many generations.

I became aware of how much this imagery deeply resonated with me because of my interest in Kundalini Yoga, a practice that taps into Kundalini energy from the spine that is depicted as a serpent. Each year, I celebrate my birthday by hosting a virtual Kundalini yoga party.

A way that I live out the myth today is that I was, for many years, a member of a float tank spa in Brooklyn, NY. Once a month I’d go to Vessel Floats by myself to experience sensory deprivation in a float tank chamber to emerge renewed. This outlet serves an opportunity to align myself with the myth.

He recalled that early in his music career his father sat in a chair with a belt as his siblings rehearsed, ready to punish any mistakes making him feel unworthy.

As Michael Jackson reached the heights of his stardom, his image and appearance changed. He was accused of bleaching his skin, which became lighter throughout his life. He purchased a ranch which he called Neverland, naming it after the fantasy island from Peter Pan about the boy who never grows up thus alluding to a yearning for a paradisal state. The intention of the amusement park was to honor and redeem children who were ill, underprivileged or neglected and give them a place to have an ideal childhood. Over the years, Jackson faced gross allegations of sexual abuse eventually abandoning Neverland and complicating his legacy.

In my astrological practice, incorporating asteroids at key points in the birth charts reveals a mythic dimension that extends beyond the grounding of what a standard birth chart reading offers. Asteroids open a deeper, richer layer of synchronicity and intimacy, one that remains largely inaccessible through traditional chart analysis or year-ahead forecasting.

The synchronicity and specificity that I have seen asteroid placements reveal, personally and professionally, is uncanny. Taught by the school of Demetra George, asteroids can be understood as thousands of tiny invisible spirits orbiting celestial spheres, whose placement in a nativity has an impact on human fate.

In my work with asteroids, particularly in a reading I offer called Altar of the Asteroids, I’ve witnessed how the alignment of a specific asteroid in a client’s chart can seed their consciousness in unmistakably familiar ways, not yet fully understood, but deeply felt. The mythic imprint, story, or concepts speaks to their soul, bypassing our analytical mind hungry for technical astrological speak, opening the psyche to an imaginal landscape far vaster, and more mysterious.

On a recent pilgrimage I organized and co-lead to Egypt, I became acutely aware of how western psychological consciousness is conditioned to order, analyze, and dominate experience. Moving through an unfamiliar landscape, my habitual mode of knowing was challenged; I found myself confronting the impulse to define, to control, to make situations knowable, and in doing so, killing any movements of magic as it worked through and around me.

This awareness invited me to expand my inner capacity, making room for both the unknown and the unknowable. I sought to dwell in a broader, more spacious field of perception, one that does not contract before it expands. It was both disorienting and exhilarating to witness my own psyche reflexively using reason to reduce magical experience into something comprehensive.

This instinct to rationalize disrupted the very process by which my soul yearned to be touched. As a temporal vessel of western consciousness, I dissected the mysteries I sought to experience. In order to move through this place, I relented my firm grip of control, in what felt like a death, to participate in magic and miracles wholeheartedly as they unfolded (and most of the time they weren’t pretty, terrifying even, if we’re being real).

Science, the kingpin of western psychological consciousness, brings necessary order to an orderless, formless reality. It enlightens and awakens us to organize the natural world through observation, experimentation and evidence-based analysis. It seeks a reliability in worldly explanations as consistent as the sun’s path around the ecliptic.

Science has historically leveraged philosophy to make meaning of its discoveries. Ancient cultures relied on mythologies to explain their worldviews, often embedded with a scientific precision, while our western world relies on mythology informed by science.

So how could rocks strewn across space orbiting our solar system possibly bear any meaning for us?

Most importantly, asteroids may offer scientific evidence for the mysterious origins of our being. Cellular molecular biologist John Torday and his co-author William Miller Jr. propose in their work Cellular-Molecular Mechanisms in Epigenetic Evolutionary Biology that “the first cell hypothetically evolved from the lipids contained in snowball-like asteroids that pelted the earth, spontaneously forming micelles” (p.22). From this view, asteroids may have set the foundation for our earth-bound consciousness.

Work conducted by a team of NASA scientists expands on this asteroid research. Through evaluation of rock and dust particles on the asteroid Bennu, they discovered life generating and sustaining molecules, similar to those on earth.

While their findings don’t claim to find the origins of life or of consciousness itself, they have developed renewed understanding of the conditions needed for the emergence of life in early solar-systems. This reinforces the idea that we inherited life from other planets and moons, that our consciousness may, in fact, be of stellar origin.

One of the most interesting findings from Bennu was insights into the history of saltwater, which served as a “broth” for early organic compounds to interact and combine, according to NASA’s team.

These scientific insights strike a parallel to ancient Egyptian mythic narratives of creation. In ancient Egyptian mythology, Bennu is a mythical bird, a self-created being who played a role in the creation of the world. In the story of his sacred myth, Bennu flew over the primordial waters of Nun that existed before creation, landing on a rock, issuing a call that determined the nature of creation.

In this way, the enduring power of this myth continues to resonate, even within contemporary scientific exploration. It is remarkable to see how modern research on the asteroid Bennu echoes and reinforces themes found in its ancient mythology.

Herein, this is work of asteroid exploration in natal charts: to open a space where ideas rooted in traditional wisdom and ancestral ways of knowing can be expanded and reinterpreted. When asteroids occupy key positions in a chart, they appear to trace meaningful correlations that shape an individual’s life, body, identity, and destiny. Those named after deities, in particular, seem to symbolize layers of consciousness, subtle influences that resonate across both our waking awareness and the deeper dimensions of our unconscious.

By engaging with asteroid mythologies reflected in our birth charts, we participate in a process of mythopoesis, where the rich tapestry of ancient stories shape our lived experience. Like Bennu, whose epitaph is “He Who Came Into Being By Himself”, speaks to self-creation, we are invited to explore new and personal ways of staying connected to these timeless myths. In doing so, we actively reinterpret and reshape them through our own lived experience and future action.
