This month’s favorite follow is Natasha Katz, designer and bride to be. Natasha is a classic beauty, she's mastered the jeans and t-shirt uniform and has the style and aura that I find myself seeking to achieve.

And with that, meet Natasha!

Natasha! I have had the pleasure of following you on social media for some time and am enamored by your online presence. I feel glued to everything you post. For those who have not met you / found you online, would you mind introducing yourself?

Hi! I’m Natasha, I’m 28 and was born and raised in Los Angeles, which is where I still live. I work for Matisse, my family’s footwear company, and within the last year started my own line within the brand called Lenore. I’m a homebody at heart, love flea markets and uncurated vintage stores, all things clothes and interiors, and am currently in the final stretch of planning my wedding!

Tell me about Matisse and Lenore by Matisse. What is your role and how did you get started?

Matisse is my family’s footwear company, so I’ve been around the business my whole life. I unexpectedly started working there during my senior year of college when I was a part time student. This was pre-Covid, so remote jobs weren’t really a thing, and the opportunity sort of just fell into my lap. Somehow, it’s now been six years. I’m the creative producer, so I oversee a lot of the creative side of the brand: campaigns, shoots, social, and how the brand’s visual identity continues to evolve.

I launched Lenore in the spring of last year because I felt there was room within Matisse for something a little more pared back and specific, with a slightly higher price point and more refined point of view. The shoes are very much based on what I actually want to wear, which gives me a pretty clear filter when I’m designing. If I wouldn’t wear it myself, it probably doesn’t need to be in the collection. I handle the designing, branding, shoots, and creative direction myself (the fun stuff), but get to lean on the Matisse team for everything on the operational side of things, which is a huge advantage.

I just ordered another color of your Lee Thong Sandal, I could not love a sandal more. What is your favorite shoe Lenore by Matisse has released?

Nothing makes me happier to hear!! Season dependent, of course, but I’m tied between the Lee sandal and the Marie ballet flat for spring/summer, although the Marie stays in rotation year-round. Living in LA makes that pretty easy, and when it’s cold I love wearing them with socks. For fall/winter, I wear the Nicolas and Thomas boots pretty much daily.

Talk to me about your style. (In my opinion you have perfected the jeans and a t-shirt and jeans and a button down outfit formula). What do you feel best wearing?

That is so kind! I would say you pretty much nailed it. My go-to is absolutely jeans, a t-shirt, a button down or sweater, and a ballet flat. It’s actually the exact outfit I threw on after I got engaged and was told I had 10 minutes to get dressed to meet our families for brunch, if that tells you anything!

On the topic of jeans, do you have a favorite pair? When it comes to jeans do you prefer vintage or new?

I have a bit of a vintage Levi’s addiction, mostly 501s. I’m always on the hunt for a new pair even though I pretty much have all the washes covered. To me, the dig is half the fun, and you can never have too many. They’re definitely my go-to. For contemporary denim, I’ve been loving the Buck Mason Japanese Loomstate Selvedge Original Jean. They fit so well and the wash is perfect.

Who do you look to for inspiration on dressing?

Leia Sfez, Camille Rowe, Gwyneth Paltrow in the ‘90s to name a few... I gravitate towards people who make really simple clothes feel interesting and have a way of looking put together without feeling overly styled.

I saw that you got engaged last year, congratulations!! Your engagement looked so beautiful and your ring is absolutely beyond. I’m a sucker for romance, how did you and your fiancé meet?

I did, thank you so much! We went to the same high school and knew of each other, but really met at a beach day with our two families and mutual family friends. I almost got out of going, as any typical 15-year-old would, but luckily my mom wouldn’t let me. We started liking each other that day, he said hi to me at school that Monday, and now we’ve been together for 12 years.

How has wedding planning been?

It’s been fun, but it’s a lot. It really tests your decision-making abilities, which I’m typically pretty good at because I have strong opinions and know what I like. But when there are two competing things I like... the decision fatigue becomes very real. We’re a month out now, so things are really starting to pick up. I’m incredibly excited, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t also excited to be done planning it.

If you’ve found your dress, without giving away too much, can you share any dress details? I am dying to know.

I’m surprisingly (or maybe unsurprisingly?) not weird about showing people my dress. I’ll kind of show it to anyone who asks, but of course have kept it a secret from Julian. It’s vintage from Happy Isles, but I completely reworked it, so it’s taken on a life of its own. The fabric is delicious, which is what drew me to it in the first place. I can’t wait to wear it.

Okay last question, when it comes to taking care, what is something that you do to unwind, relax and take care of yourself?

There is truly nothing I love more than an everything shower followed by a face mask, a cup of tea with a piece of chocolate, and then putting on Sex in the City. There’s usually some The Real Real and TikTok scrolling involved too. I also love treating myself to a massage.

1. Favorite restaurant right now? I just went to Wilde’s for the first time and it was incredible. Need to go back!

2. Favorite place you have traveled recently? Provence! It’s where we’re getting married and is somewhere I’ll always be happy to go back to.

3. Favorite show/movie you’ve watched? Day of the Jackal. Best show ever.

4. Best thing you have read recently? Strangers by Belle Burden. I can’t wait for the movie.

5. What is on your wishlist right now? Anything you are eyeing? I’m very much in bridal mode right now, so everything I have my eye on is white. I haven’t even had a moment to look at new releases, but once the wedding is over I’ll be turning my attention to fall.

While my guy naps I shamelessly find myself taking a minute and scrolling Tik Tok. My algorithm is scary accurate and knows that I, like many other moms on the internet, are running into the dilemma of what to wear during the day. Chrissy Sang posed the question to her followers: “what are we (moms) wearing during the day?”

A fellow Tik Toker commented on Chrissy’s video the following, to which I literally laughed out loud because same.

I also felt the need to ask my community what us moms are wearing, emphasizing that every day I find myself in the same shorts and a t-shirt combination. Besides price and comfortability, one of the most important things in my every day wear is being able to affirmatively answer:

• Is this comfortable?

• When this gets dirty, is this durable enough to quickly throw in the washer?

Call this research, boots on the ground journalism, or just plain old online shopping, but I have compiled a list pieces (under $150) to bring some life back into our everyday wear that I would’t feel to bad about staining or dousing in Shout and throwing in the wash (dry clean who??).

Inspiration 1 — The Button Down

Practical Application:

The emphasis here is to think about incorporating a button downs into your everyday wear. Sure, you can wear pants/shorts and a tank/tee, but throwing a button down over is an added layer that adds some zhuzh to your outfit. Wearing a button down alone too is a step above just wearing a tee.

Inspiration 2 — The Capri

Practical Application

This outfit is a good example of how to elevate something simple like leggings and T-shirt. Capri leggings are having a moment, but also have a classic look to them without being overly trendy (I’m focused on pieces that will stand the test of time). Other capris that I’m loving are these, these and these.

For what to wear with your leggings, swap your old t-shirt for a polo, a henley, or, drumroll please, a button down! The detail of a collar and/or buttons adds a special something that can help make you feel and look more put together (if that’s your goal!). Inspiration 3 — The Denim Overshirt

Practical Application

I have an old Gap denim button down from my mom that I truly live in. I always wear it open with a t-shirt under, and style it a camel pair of pants, most recently, these from Buck Mason.

Inspiration 4 — Incorporating Jeans

Practical Application

I already know what you’re thinking. Jeans??? At home??? Put simply, yes! I love, love a good pair of jeans, especially ones comfortable enough to spend an entire day in. What I love about these from Jeanerica is their mid rise loose/boyfriend fit and the rips + splattered paint detail. No need to stress if one of your babies gets them dirty, any extra markings to your jeans add to the lived in details.

Inspiration 5 — Accessories

More often than not it’s not about what you wear, but how you wear it. Here’s where accessories may come into play. Try incorporating a hat (alt, alt, alt) if that’s your thing. Or sometimes it’s as easy as throwing a sweater over your shoulders or adding a hair accessory like a statement claw clip.

Lastly — Sets

Sets just make life easy. It’s one less decision you have to make, knowing that you have an entire outfit figured out. The above set is technically pajamas but I would 100% wear it out of the house. Other pajama sets I love include this one (I have and I love), this one ($159) and this pants and shirt set. Once this comes back in stock too I highly highly recommend, I live in mine.

Somehow this past month our son also turned 6 months old. For a while I felt like time was moving really slow, and now, all of a sudden, time with him is moving at the speed of light. I am trying to relish every single moment.

Since I find myself replying to almost every one of her Instagram stories with “where did you get that” I decided that if she was willing, I would interview her to develop a more personal connection with who she really is. Luckily for me, and for all of you, she was willing. Introducing, Wallis!

I feel like I know you based on your online presence, but would you please introduce yourself for those who have yet to have had the joy of following you online!?

Hello! My name is Wallis and I’m an East Coast native living in Los Angeles. I run a creative studio helping fashion and lifestyle brands scale. When I’m not doing that I’m either at the flower market, baking sourdough bread or at the beach with my friends. I love the bi-coastal life so much!

You recently posted a Substack article, “The Privilege of Being Bored”, which was brilliant. How has your transition been from being busy with clients to now having the opportunity to slow down?

Honestly, the transition has been much harder than I expected! I thought I’d go straight from client to client, and instead I’ve had to sit with a lot of unstructured time, which is its own kind of work. I’m calling it my gap summer: trusting the process, doing things I love day by day, and filling the time with lots of travel.

Your style, both with what you wear and how you decorate your home is remarkable, you have such great taste. Let’s start with how you dress, how would you describe your style?

Thank you! I’d call my style simple and fluid. Nothing constricting, nothing forced. If it doesn’t make me feel good, it doesn’t make the cut.

What is your “go to” outfit, what do you feel your best in?

Linen eyelet shorts and a white tee, hands down. Or a short Doen dress. You really can’t go wrong in a dress.

Do you have anyone you look to for inspiration on how to dress?

forever. Her neutral palette and her commitment to what she actually likes over what’s trendy make her endlessly inspiring.

What are some of your favorite brands/places to shop?

Doen for dresses, always. Vintage Levi’s for jeans. Brandy Melville, surprisingly, makes the best white tee for under $30. For elevated pieces, Matteau and Faithfull the Brand (I’ll always be a beach girl at heart). And for lounging, it’s LESET, no contest.

Now to your home—I have to admit I saw your Homeworthy video, and am in awe of how you designed your home. Tell me about how Homeworthy had the pleasure to tour your home!

I started sharing my home on TikTok last year and it took off almost overnight. It’s really been the foundation of my online presence. When Homeworthy reached out, I genuinely thought it was a scam at first! But the shoot was such a fun, easy day. They filmed everything, we talked through the design choices, and it still feels a little surreal that my home got to be part of something like that.

Your butter yellow kitchen is a dream! It’s truly like something out of a movie. What is your favorite thing to cook/bake?

My kitchen is honestly the reason I moved into the house, it’s perfect. This year I set out to master sourdough, and now my go to bakes are ciabatta rolls for sandwiches and a batch of chocolate chip cookies that are borderline addicting and SO easy to make.

You seem to love florals—I am a big believer that there is truly nothing better than fresh flowers. What are your favorite to keep in your home?

Completely agree, nothing beats fresh flowers. Hydrangeas are my classic, they never miss. I’m lucky to live ten minutes from the DTLA flower market, the largest wholesale flower market in the country, and I go every other week or so with no plan, just an open mind and the willingness to be surprised by whatever’s in season.

What does a typical weekend look like for you?

My typical weekend includes as much downtime as activity. I love having plans on Friday nights, whether it’s dinner with my boyfriend or drinks with the girls. Saturdays are strictly reserved for tennis in Rustic Canyon, followed by the beach (Malibu or Manhattan Beach). And Sundays are sacred: farmer’s market, grocery shopping, laundry, and just relaxing.

Favorite restaurant right now?

Folk’s Pizza in Culver City just blew me away. I need to work through the whole menu. And Ichijiku, a hole in the wall sushi spot in Highland Park. My boyfriend and I go every Sunday before he heads back to San Diego.

A girls’ weekend in Ojai. Pure magic.

Favorite show/movie you’ve watched?

Does Love Island count?? I’m fully a reality TV person, zero shame in that guilty pleasure.

Best thing you have read recently?

I’m a sucker for a good beach read, just finished The 5-Star Weekend and Harry Potter, both incredible.

What is on your wishlist right now? Anything you are eyeing?

New Asics for an upcoming trip across the pond, already can’t wait to wear them. And I’ve had my eye on a sweater from Almina Concept for way too long. Might finally have to pull the trigger.

Visually, Le Sundial is having a major moment. I don’t own anything from the brand (yet), but I’m sure the pieces are just as beyond irl as they are in photos. A few days ago I took these screenshots from their Instagram stories for inspiration for the kind of jewelry I’m looking for this summer.

Over the holiday weekend I endeavored to make Ina Garten’s famous Flag Cake. Not only did I have to pry myself away from another slice but it set the mood for a very sweet (0 pun intended) Fourth of July.

One of my favorite girls on the internet, , (who also shares a birthday with me!!) seamlessly crafted the most perfect summery yet ready for fall outfit. She recently came out with a post “It’s a Fall Girl Summer” which she seems to be living out with ease.

Lastly, it’s now July, and we are officially halfway done with 2026. One of my favorite Instagram accounts, Lighthearted Kitchen, posted what produce is in season this month, which is something to keep in mind when thinking up recipes!

Of course, as evidenced by these photos, my mom is beautiful.

However, what made me take a second look was what my mom was wearing. The apple certainly does not fall far from the tree, the woman loved denim. Jeans, denim vests, and denim overshirts; it appears that when it came to denim, she did not discriminate. Shoutout to the 90s.

The themes of what she wore though stuck out even more: classically styled, perfectly proportioned outfits, nothing fancy, nothing overly expensive, but nonetheless just right, perfect even. She was (and is to this day) also in the business of re-wearing.

This got me thinking, are we being duped into thinking “fancy” or expensive really means better? Have we completely bought into the idea that we need more of the “latest and greatest”? I’ll change my tone and speak solely for myself, because maybe everyone else has already had this “aha” moment and is a more conservative consumer, but I am convinced I have been sold and have bought into the idea that “more expensive”, “more unattainable”, more, more, more means better.

These feelings that I’m describing came on when I noticed myself “absolutely needing” something each time one my favorite brands released a new collection of items. The second I placed yet again another order, I honestly gave myself the ick. Where was my self control? Where was my discernment?

We've all heard that social media is a highlight reel. As much as I love social media it’s also one massive advertising conglomerate that convinces me to buy buy buy without thinking twice. The advertising and links are so never-ending that I am sometimes lost over what my own sense of style really is or what it is I actually like.

With this realization in mind I’m putting a major pause on spending, and allowing myself to yearn (thank you for that reminder) for things I actually want, not what I’m being convinced I need.

Back to my mom.

Do you see what I mean? This woman didn’t miss. She re-wore the same white wool sweater, and lived in denim. And, on occasion, feminized her dress with a skirt and vest combination. She had a uniform that worked. That’s the ticket. Find what works and sticking with it—a mantra that will help me in continuing to develop my personal style and just life in general.

This is not to say that my personal style can completely change or evolve. I’m putting more of an emphasis on asking myself: “Do I really want this? Is this something I want because the girls I love on social media have it? Does this truly align with what I’m looking for?”

With that in mind, you’ve likely heard me say this before and I’ll certainly say it again, but what’s worked for me, what never misses and what makes me feel my best is jeans (vintage Levi’s) and a white t-shirt. Because of pregnancy and breastfeeding my uniform has admittedly changed, but when I’m out and about you can still find me in jeans, paired instead with a button down. Before becoming pregnant I would literally lounge/nap in my vintage Levi’s. I love jeans okk!!

It’s established that I’m a creature of habit, just like my mom. Sometimes by being online I feel this overwhelming pressure to reinvent my wheel to keep up with all the nice and shiny things that everyone else has. Moving forward I’ll be taking a page out of my mom’s book: consuming less, finding what works, and sticking with it.

As my body has changed so has what I’m wearing. Surprise surprise! While my beloved uniform is and has always been vintage Levi’s and a white tee, rigid jeans and a tee aren't the most breastfeeding friendly combo. I’ve heavily incorporated into my everyday wear button downs, elastic waist pants (shorts now that it’s summer) and matching sets.

In particular, the pieces that I find myself reaching for most are by Doen, Deiji Studios, The Anteros and Donni. As someone who truly treasures curating outfits, with my son, work, and keeping our house in order, I am finding that these brands are really good at alleviating my burden of “what do I wear?” and do the creative thinking for me.

Exhibit A:

Packing for this trip was a breeze, mainly because I just threw everything I loved into a suitcase and didn’t think twice. While I am guilty of overpacking, there are a few items worth mentioning that I have deemed my “hero” items, mainly because they not only carried me through my week in Ojai, but are also items I find myself consistently reaching for every day.

1. Jenni Kayne Elodie Flat

I wore these flats every single night. Not only are they the most comfortable shoe I own, they also match with everything. A true “one stop shop” kind of shoe.

2. Undo Hairclip

Unless I want my 4 month old to have a fistful of my hair, my hair is being kept up by my favorite hair clip. My time in Ojai was no exception—it came with me everywhere: the pool, dinner, long walks, you name it.

3. Doen Ischia Dress

I admit that I am a broken record, but this dress look fab on everyone. Literally everyone! If you’re contemplating it, just know that you are not only guaranteed to look incredible, but you can also wear it during spring, summer, fall, winter (climate permitting of course!). 4. Suni Bucket Hat

Janessa Leone really is that girl. I am in bit of a love hate relationship with SPF at the moment so hats are mandatory for me when in the sun.

5. Oak Essentials lotion + oil combo

I slather the luminous body lotion and dew body oil onto my skin every single day, especially right after a shower. Vacation is no exception—I brought my travel size lotion and body oil to keep my skin hydrated while in the heat!

During my time in Ojai I was lucky enough to have a facial during which the esthetician I saw serendipitously used only Oak Essentials products. While you know I am a huge OE fan it was heartwarming and reassuring to hear that she too loves the products and used them every day.

(Pro tip: I relayed to my esthetician that I felt that the moisture rich balm felt a little thick for every day use, and she told me to put a small amount on my hand, mix it with a few sprays of the Balancing Mist, and then apply. I’ve done this every night since and am beyond happy with her advice).

Our week in Ojai was the perfect start to the summer. As we were leaving my husband and I were already planning our return. Ojai you have our hearts!

While I have so much to learn about motherhood, I will say that despite the lack of sleep, in many ways I see life so much clearer now that my son is here. What was important to me before has recently taken a backseat to my new life of learning and navigating precious time with my new little best friend.

I would be lying if I said there wasn’t some level of grief in letting my old life go in order to accommodate the new. What I’ve found though, is that rather than letting go of who I was, I am finding the ability to expand my identity as someone who is loving on and raising a new little life while also filling up my cup by way of reading, writing, creating, and navigating what life has in store for me as a woman who is now a mom.

I am a steadfast believer that when your own cup is full, you can pour into those around you, and for me, that is my new family.

In honor of filling up our mom cups I have created a list of 17 things that moms want. Yes, I’ve been a mom for five seconds, but trust me, this is a good one!!

1. Matching pajamas set. Who doesn't like matching pajamas? No really, who?

In between all the newborn snuggles which I can’t seem to get enough of I have been online browsing for inspiration on spring dressing. I feel myself itching to get out of my comfy sweats and sweatshirts and into real clothes.

While I usually gravitate heavily towards neutrals when dressing, specifically whites and tans, beiges and creams, I am finding myself inspired by color this season.

A recent trip into Ralph Lauren further confirmed that color is absolutely where it’s at. Major styling points given to the outfit on the left. If anyone can track down the colorful hat for me I would be forever grateful!

I initially restrained myself when I first saw this sweater in store, however, it just so happened to go on sale a few days later and I could not resist.

Speaking of sweaters, if you are looking for the perfect butter yellow sweater, this one from Jenni Kayne is spring in a sweater.

On the topic of color, I recently went outside of my comfort zone and opted for this Deiji Studios set in blue, though the cream set still calls my name. This purchase was inspired by my birthday twin who started an outfit of the day Tik Tok series where she shows what she has coined as her “elevated cozies” for being at home. Being 8 weeks postpartum and largely confined to my home her series has me hooked. However, living in Southern California I’m having to find to my own at home “cozies” since it’s consistently been 80 degrees. Cue my old faithful, Deiji Studios.

Skincare!

If you follow me on Instagram or Tik Tok you know that I am a major Oak Essentials fan. Yes, I am on their gifting list, however, I stand by my support and love for the brand, their products have changed my skin for the dewier. I’m currently on my fourth jar of their body butter and am in love with their ritual oil. As someone who does not have positive reactions to face oils, I was apprehensive to try to integrate this one into my routine. However, the oil’s blue tansy ingredient had me curious. After about a month of use, this oil is now a staple. Hello glow!

Another new product I’ve integrated into my routine is Verdoie’s La Creme Hydratante. This moisturizer has given me the most beautiful glow and has quenched a thirst my postpartum skin needed.

It’s now spring, I don’t feel the need to elaborate further on this one other than to say if you ever need some fresh florals, run to Farmgirl Flowers and order yourself something beautiful. I ordered 60 California ranunculus to spruce up my home and was beyond impressed by how beautiful they were.

While most of his clothes are washed and put away, his rug has yet to arrive, unopened boxes still remain, and his changing table and dresser have yet to be organized. By some miracle I still have a decent amount of energy, so I am hoping things will be completed over the weekend.

As the nursery is technically incomplete, I thought it would be more interesting for me to share a few special keepsake items from the nursery that I will literally cherish forever.

Let’s get to the good stuff.

When deciding how to decorate my son’s nursery I knew that I wanted the room to feel warm with character, though not overly themed. Honestly, I really had no “theme” for the nursery other than warm and cozy. I knew I wanted to incorporate vintage with new, and had a strong leaning towards dark wood with blue accents. Thus, I opted for this rug which I am patiently waiting to arrive.

On the topic of vintage, let’s start there. Back in September while perusing Chairish I stumbled across this precious sailboat painting and purchased it immediately. It checked my boxes: vintage, warm, and has lots of character. About a month later while antique shopping I just happened to stumble upon this vintage stool, upholstered, nonetheless, with sailboats! While I have not continued with the sailboat “theme” I am loving the happy coincidence.

In terms of keepsake boxes, this one from Petite Keep was gifted to me by my sister-in-law and will literally stay with me and my son for forever. It is beyond precious, photos do not do it justice.

For anyone contemplating a glider, or a reading chair for that matter, I opted for the Esme Glider and ottoman and could not be happier. The chair and ottoman combo is incredibly comfortable and cozy. For curious minds, I went with the washed cotton linen in color “cornsilk.”

When it comes to bedding I have mainly stuck with organic cotton muslin sheets from Etsy. However, this one is what is currently what’s on the crib mattress right now because of how incredibly precious it is.

Speaking of bedding, this elephant blanket from Etsy is maybe my favorite thing in my son’s nursery so far. The quality is amazing, and the blanket itself is so adorable it makes me emotional.

There are no shortage of stuffed animals that I have either bought or my son has been gifted, however, I could not resist this bunny from LouLou Baker. I wrote a special note that came with the stuffy which I will keep, and have my son one day read for himself.

I gave in to influencing and bought this custom Alex Mill tote which I am truly loving. The social media frenzy over these bags has honestly rung true. Even more special though is the giraffe tote bag that my aunt literally MADE for my son! I was convinced that she had bought it until she told me at Thanksgiving that she literally made it! Beyond special.

Last but far from least, are clothes. He has many, many clothes, though I am somewhat panicking that he maybe doesn’t have enough newborn onesies. *Making a mental note to buy more.* While he won’t be in proper outfits for a few months, these are a few of my favorite outfits that he has.

Being pregnant and expecting a son has been one of the greatest joys of my life. While the “stuff” has been so much fun collecting and curating, all he’ll need is love, protection and nourishment. I feel so blessed by God to have the privilege to bring our son into the world and to create a space of safety and beauty, just for him.

3. The quite literal best pajamas I have ever put on my body. I have two pairs and can’t go a night without wearing them. (Other pajamas that would make great and affordable gifts are these from J.Crew and this top and pants set from Gap. I also own both of these and they are really great.)

4. A favorite perfume that I don’t leave the house without. Really anything from Oak Essentials would make a perfect gift. (Transparently I am a recipient of Oak Essentials gifting but I will say that I have spent my own money restocking on the body lotion, body wash, body scrub and firming serum—everything is that good.)

5. Scallop pitcher/vase. Stunning.

6. Mason Pearson pocket brush. I can attest that unfortunately Mason Pearson does know haircare and is worth the price.

7. Leather Filofax. Very very chic.

8. Astier de Villatte Marguerite tea cup. Anything by Astier de Villatte is beautiful and would make for a very thoughtful gift.

9. Personalized lace envelope and dinner napkin. Embroider someone’s name on the envelope and a sweet note on the dinner napkin. So sweet I could cry.

10. Chrome salt and pepper mills. Again, a stunning addition to anyone’s home.

11. Everyone and their mother seems to be talking about the Alex Mill tote. I caved and personalized mine with something very special. While I can’t speak to the quality and functionality just yet as I have yet to receive mine, a personalized tote is a great gift. Another fantastic option is the L.L. Bean Boat Tote which you can also personalize.

12. Probably one of the most beautiful napkins I have yet to find on Etsy. I think about these a lot.

13. Jewelry is very personal but I think these earrings are subtle yet unique enough to make a great gift.

14. We are a big butter household. If someone you love is too, this butter dish is as precious yet as functional as it gets.

If you're on a budget or if you tired of consuming, what about something that you can make with your hands? One of my favorite gifts that I have gifted is my homemade sourdough, my favorite butter (Les Prés Salés), and Maldon Salt. The gift was a big hit.

Quality time is one of my love languages, so it’s no surprise that some of my most favorite gifts that I have received are experience gifts. If you are looking for something to gift to your mom/dad, sister/brother, husband, boyfriend, best friend, I would recommend something where you can create memories that will last your entire life, like a Sur La Table cooking class, or tickets to an upcoming concert (if you find yourself in LA in July of 2026 Olivia Dean will be performing!!). A few years ago my husband also very thoughtfully gifted me a ceramics making class that we did together. If you live in Orange County, I highly recommend the Costa Mesa Ceramics classes.

I’m a big believer that your time is a precious commodity and therefore a very precious gift that you could give someone. Whether it’s sharing a meal with someone or going on a long walk or meeting for coffee or tea there is really no greater gift than spending time with the people that you love and that love you. The “stuff” is all secondary.

The writing and imagery the author is able to capture is inspiring—one of a true classic novel. Imagine: worn leather, wheatgrass, chambray, campfires, suede boots, weathered wood, antique lace, wild horses.

The book had such an impact on me that for a while I was sold on naming our son Augustus. Sadly, after some contemplation, this name was vetoed by my husband. Back to the drawing board!

I don’t know if it’s the imagery of Lonesome Dove or my unwavering love for Ralph Lauren but I am finding myself really gravitating towards all things western this fall.

In their new arrivals campaign, Buck Mason has also done a fantastic job summing up what I’m after this fall.

Dressing while pregnant is not easy. Full stop. Now that I’m 26 weeks and my bump is here and ready to stay I can’t think a worse time to want to dress with structured, high-waisted, rigid jeans, leather belts, stiff leather boots. However, I’m always up for a challenge.

I live in Southern California so coats and jackets are not the first thing top of mind when it summer turns to fall or when fall turns to winter. For example, as I’m writing this it’s currently 68 degrees and sunny, a light sweater will do. So, while I’m in love with and can’t stop thinking about Nour Hammour’s Portia shearling jacket, it’s not the most wearable for my climate.

Here is what’s working I have my eye on, and what’s already working for me.

Jenni Kayne does fall right. I have had my eye on their Colt Shirt since it was released—not only is the shade of denim delicious, but button ups are what I’ve felt most comfortable in during my pregnancy. Doen’s Julienne Top and the COS flannel are in the same family of button ups and their organic, western feel hits the nail on the head.

I’ve struggled with pants during this pregnancy. However, I can’t seem to forgo my jeans just yet. I’ve taken the advice of one of my favorite creators, and bought a few pairs of vintage Levi’s and sized up. I also recently tried on, fell in love with, and came home with The Great’s wide leg slouch jean. They could use a tiny bit of tailoring at the bottom as I’m wearing them very low and they are long in the legs, but I am so in love with them I don’t want to change anything about them. I also very recently came across these pants from Vince which not only have an elastic waist (hallelujah!) but are also on sale.

On the topic of bottoms, Still Here does jeans right. Their “Cool Jeans” which are, in fact, very cool, are a low rise jean with an adjustable drawstring toggle which is not only good for pregnancy but also gives the effect of a bolero. *Adds to cart*

Le Monde Beryl’s calf hair loafers stopped me in my scroll, and of course, Jenni Kayne’s Carmine boot give a perfect amount of western appeal without any gimmick. I’m all in though, so these boots from Kemo Sabe feel like a perfect finishing touch for my uniform of jeans and a t-shirt.

Pre-bump styling was much easier, and I found myself in late August and September gravitating toward The Great. I’ve worn this smock top and matching bottoms as pajamas and separates, the waist on the bottoms still fit as we speak. Their Riding Cardigan is perfect—lightweight enough to wear during the day yet keeps me warm in the evenings. I am also a massive fan of The Great’s Barn Jacket—it’s perfectly oversized without feeling frumpy; and as someone who is growing, this jacket has fit during all stages of my pregnancy so far.

And as of Friday…

It’s likely you've now gotten the picture of what fall dressing has felt like for me: slouchy denim, soft leather, cozy flannel, new suede, crisp cotton.

Alas, here are my favorite, go to, can’t miss, habits.

1. Sunday showers. In the early evening of every Sunday, right before sitting down to eat dinner, I take a long shower to prepare myself for Monday morning. There is nothing better, and I truly mean nothing better, than showering and feeling so clean while then sitting down for dinner, getting cozy on the couch with my husband, turning on a show, and finishing the night with a sweet treat. (My sweet treat of choice lately has been this vanilla bean ice cream sandwich).

2. Weekly bread making. I make sourdough bread weekly. The recipe I use makes two loaves at a time, and yes, my husband and I shamelessly go through both loaves in a week. More often than not I bake bread every Friday morning, though lately, work has been messing with that schedule. As long as I make my weekly loaves though, I’m a happy camper. This habit is more out of necessity than anything else since I obnoxiously refuse to buy bread from the market.

3. Farmers market Saturdays. I’ve written about this before but every Saturday morning you will find me at our local farmers market. Items I never miss are eggs, berries, almond butter, onions, garlic and whatever veggies catch my eye.

4. Matching pajamas. I have a very real habit of investing in matching pajamas. I feel like I sleep better?? Whether that is accurate is tbd, however, in my routine of unwinding for bed, matching pajamas are just the cherry on top.

5. Weekly at home facials. As I’m pregnant I have opted out of receiving my monthly facials from my regular spot. Instead, I’ve developed the habit or routine of making time for myself by doing a little at home facial. I get into my robe, wash my face, turn on my face steamer, follow up with a complexion cleaning mask and then the Oak Essentials refining mask (which feels heavenly), rinse, pat dry, and turn on my red light mask. 30 minutes of peace!

6. Homemade anything. If I can make it, you can best believe I like to at least try. This applies to almost anything, butter, jam, English muffins, chimichurri, etc. However, lately I’ve been baking up a literal storm. My thing is chocolate chip cookies. If I could have one desert for the rest of my life it would be a chocolate chip cookie. One of the best recipes I’ve found is this chocolate chip/date cookie recipe:

7. Collecting cards + notebooks. I have developed a habit of collecting cards and journals/notebooks. Whenever I travel or find myself in a home goods/textile/design store, and I see a card or journal that catches my eye, it’s coming home with me. You can never have too many cards, especially blank cards with a beautiful design—they work for everything. The journal/notebook habit is interesting, I have yet to fill most of the ones I’ve bought, I just like knowing that a beautiful journal is in stock should I be in need of one.

I’m sure I have more habits that I’ve picked up along the way, however, these are the ones that stand out the most. Maybe a part 2 incoming??!

After a great deal of research I decided to order a few things from True Botanicals in large part because their site literally has a “Pregnancy Safe” section, which made me feel incredibly comfortable and at ease in choosing new products.

[As an aside, in my research for pregnancy safe skin care I noticed that True Botanicals is one in a million—many many other skin care lines, even the “clean” ones will refrain from putting their stamp of approval on whether their product(s) is pregnancy safe. This doesn’t shock me, with liability and all, however it made the experience of shopping for safe skin care stressful. As an even further aside, if you are pregnant, download the app Little Bean; you can scan or upload ingredient lists and the app shows you if there are any harmful ingredients in the products you choose!]

Back to True Botanicals: I ordered the Phyto-Retinol Serum, the Phyto-Retinol cream, the Skin Barrier Sun Shield, and the Ginger Tumeric cleansing balm.

The trouble with abruptly introducing all new products after also abruptly stopping my simple yet regular routine is that I couldn’t tell if the breakouts that I began to experience were caused by what was being introduced, or by what I was no longer using (or both?).

All to say, thank heavens for Oak Essentials. This post is not an ad, neither for True Botanicals nor Oak Essentials, but credit has to be given where credit is due. Oak Essentials was major player in getting my skin back to normal.

Here’s what I’ve landed on:

• For the face, I am very loyal to the Refining Mask, the Balancing Mist and the Firming Plant Peptide Serum. The refining mask is like a fresh drink of water for my face the the peptide serum has really kept the right areas firm. I’ll use the mask around 3 times a week and and the peptide serum morning and night, daily.

• For my body, the Luminous Body Lotion is the best lotion I have ever used (the travel cream goes with me everywhere). I am on my second bottle of the Awaken Body Wash—the smell is so clean and delicious. Second to the Luminous Body Lotion, the Perfecting Body Scrub is one of the best things I could have found while pregnant. It makes my skin (especially my belly) soft and supple, leaving me feeling incredibly moisturized after I shower.

While I’ve made significant progress in finding a routing that works for me, I’m 25 weeks pregnant and still have not landed on a sunscreen that I like nor a face wash that really cleanses and purifies and that is also pregnancy safe. If you have a sunscreen or face wash that you loved and used while pregnant I am allllll ears.

While pregnant my belly has gotten as much attention as my face. In addition to the Awaken Body Scrub, I am a daily user of 8Sheep Organic’s True Belly Serum. This product was first recommended to me by a friend and I was sold after reading this:

“The True Belly Serum contains Centella Asiatica and Triple-Weighted Hyaluronic Acid, ingredients which have been shown in clinical studies to help prevent stretch marks, and are recommended by the American Academy of Dermatology.” Enough said!

For extra moisture at night I layer the serum with their overnight nourishing balm. I also recently bought the Peppermint Foot & Leg Rub which smells like Christmas.

To keep my skin clear I have also been regularly giving myself a lymphatic drainage face massage to help circulate blood flow and am also using my trusty red light face mask. A chef’s kiss combo if you ask me.

Lastly, not skincare, but in the same family, I recently upgraded and bought myself this bathrobe from Matouk. Worth every single penny and more—I feel wrapped in a cloud when I wear it. Though also not skincare, but on the topic of feeling cozy, I am in love with these new pajamas I received from Petite Plum—I have not stopped wearing them and have gone out of my way to wash them just so I don’t have to spend a night without them.

These past 4 and a half months have been incredibly intimate and eye opening. My body changes daily, but my world around me has pretty much stayed the same. Being pregnant has opened my eyes even wider to my ever growing appreciation for women. I am in constant disbelief of us all: growing life and grocery shopping; growing life and working full time jobs; growing life and carrying on.

I’ll admit that being pregnant has forced me to grow in ways I didn’t anticipate. I’m continuously having to make peace with my body changing and am learning to accept the increasing number of breakouts (hasta la vista tretinoin!). I’ve had to completely surrender my fears and anxieties to God and am constantly strengthening my muscle of trusting in His plans for me and for my new little family. As someone who tends to find solace and peace in control, complete surrender does not come naturally to me. Alas, I am a constant work in progress.

I don’t have the words to explain the joys of my pregnancy. One day I might, but for now I’ll keep the precious joys of the last few months close to my heart. What I will say is that much joy has been found in baby boy clothes and in planning his nursery. More on that later…

My last substack post was on June 3, 2025 and since then, so much has clearly changed. Not only are we having a son, but also, *drumroll please**, we’re moving! I mention our upcoming move solely to warn that in addition to styling and all things new mom and baby, this Substack is taking a new turn into all things home rennovation and interiors. Much, much more to come on that soon.

I am still trying to find the words to describe how grateful I am for the blessings and joys in my life. With all the chaos, fear, hate and pain so alive in our country and world it feels difficult to share all the joy that we’ve been experiencing. In spite of it all, from the bottom of my heart I am so thankful to my little community for all your love and support, I am eternally blessed.

This is not an attack on anyone—like I said, I participate in the sharing and the posting and the links. I think I’m just tired of everything feeling so similarly surface level. I’ll explain what I mean. Massimo Dutti must definitely be having a moment—just the other day I saw several people online share their awe over the same Massimo Dutti sandals and the exact same looks from Massimo Dutti’s new arrivals collection. Do not misunderstand me, I love Massimo Dutti, and heck, I love their new arrivals. But my goodness, are we all just online, sharing the same thing over and over? Similarly surface level.

Back when I had Tik Tok I stumbled across one of Heidi Becker’s videos where she’s talking incredibly fast, almost poetically, about all of the overconsumption and things that we are doing, sharing, posting, wearing, etc. Listening to parodize our culture is humorous and also incredibly harrowing. I sometimes feel like I am on a wheel: shopping and sharing, shopping and sharing. It feels overly similar and far too surface level.

Like I said, I am the problem—I am an active participant in the culture of sharing. I just feel like in the sharing and the posting and the promoting I am constantly having to reassess or reevaluate myself. What do I actually like? What do I actually want to wear? What brands do I actually align with?

In the spirit of self reflection, this article is dedicated to the good things that made May as perfect as it was. No links, no codes. Just joy.

Outfits that Made Me Feel Good

This post is not to say that I am cutting ties with posting and promoting, sharing and tagging. What I am saying is that there is truly nothing more individual than self reflection, and realignment.

This post also serves as a disclaimer to myself: you do not need to buy it just because several people have it and have posted about how “incredible” or “stunning” it is. We all work so hard for our money that if we are going to spend it, we should buy things that actually make us happy, things that actually work in the closet that we already have, things that we are going to wear and re-wear, use and re-use.

I repeat and emphasize that this is not an attack on the influencer community. I am a recipient of outstanding tips and tricks, advice and insight from all of the influencers I follow. The crux of what I’m trying to say, is that we are all so genuinely cool and fascinating in our own way that I would rather see more of that. There’s just no way that we can all be so equally “obsessed” with the same pair of sandals. I refuse to believe that we are all so similarly surface level.

I don’t know if it’s the warm weather or the season or what but I am very much in a season of renewal. “Spring cleaning”, if you will, of my mind and my closet. Out with the old, in with the new. With this spirit in mind I recently placed an order for a new journal. I am somewhat of a collector of journals, (every time we travel or whenever I see a journal that grabs my attention I make an immediate purchase) and what better time to order a new one than during this season of being “in with the new.”

Onto less introspective matters. I am well aware that enjoying the changing season and warm weather has nothing to do with what we’re wearing. HOWEVER, thinking up outfits sparks a joy that I think many of us understand.

I have curated a few outfit options that can be taken from spring to summer seamlessly. You’ll notice a pattern—I am very into whites for spring and summer. A sheer white top, thrown over a swimsuit, salt from the ocean still in your hair, the faint smell of sunscreen, sun kissed skin—summer. A white dress, freshly showered hair pulled into a tight, wet bun, strappy sandals, cheeks blushed from the sun—again, summer. I hope this is resonating with you?? I do not play about skin care and this cleansing milk and face polish are new additions to my skin care and are actually incredible. I have been using these two on repeat.

The name says it all. This hand cream lives on my nightstand and is, in fact, excellent. Excellent texture, excellent smell.

From my Mirror

Not typically a Zara shopper but this top is very very cool and perfect for summer. Quality of the fabric surprised me as well. You can pair with the matching skirt or these linen pants that I am wearing!

My sister went on a work trip to Tennessee and brought me back the most amazing cowboy boots. Needless to say these are slowly becoming my entire personality???

I am wearing this top (on sale in black) and an old Zara skirt (alt here and here). Hopefully this outfit is giving Ralph Lauren because that is what I was aiming for.

We are well into hat season, so I pulled out this beauty from Janessa Leone. It’s a past season style so it’s no longer in stock, but I was able to find it on Poshmark. (Very into this one and this one though (stopilovethat15 for 15% off!!). I am wearing this Doen tee paired (on sale) with my trusty linen pants.

As you may have gathered from the above photo, I am a straw bag fan. So, naturally, the answer to my husband’s question is, that you can never have too many straw bags. I also am of the opinion that a straw bag can be sported year round and does not have to stored away and solely reserved for spring/summer (though, that may be the Southern California in me talking?). They also make great evenings bags. See Exhibit A below for what I mean.

There is something really elegant and understated about a straw bag. For me, a good straw bag embodies the sentiment of “if you know, you know.” Whenever I see a fellow passerby sporting an eye catching straw bag in hand I can almost tell that she gets it.

Without a doubt there are certain designer brands that really speak to me. But, a well proportioned and well made straw bag from Etsy or a street vendor speaks to me in a whole other language. While we all may be aware that money may not be able to buy taste, it can certainly buy you a straw bag.

As you can see I have a few straw bags in my personal collection. Beginning at the top, I have a monogrammed bag by Rebecca de Ravenel. She does not seem to make the exact version that I have anymore, but she makes an equally as interesting and cool version that I have seen sported by Juliana Salazar.

Next, is a favorite brand, Hereu. I don’t see the exact bag that I have on Hereu’s website any longer, but I did find the same bag on Ebay!!

Moving on to a very simple yet long time favorite that I bought at a coffee shop long ago. I cannot find anything exactly the same as mine, but here is an incredible option that I might just have buy…

My Clare V. Pot de Miel is adorable—the bamboo handle is by far my favorite part.

Lastly, this bag by Inès Bressand is soooooo good. It’s structured, sturdy, and overall very clean bag (tote?) that can be worn anywhere. My exact bag is sold out but here is the mini version which is equally as great.

On to some more good stuff.

Etsy is the star of the show this week. This raffia bucket bag shouts spring and summer and has really beautiful detailing around the edge. It looks like something you could get from Doen, Rouje, or TRR for a fraction of the price.

We all know and love her: Hunting Season. This small basket is a beauty, which can be taken from day to night seamlessly.

Get two bags in one with this straw clutch/bag by Cos. I love how clean the shape of this bag is, and the price is not too bad either.

Apologies, but we are backing at Hunting Season. She really is that girl. This top handle bag is a pretty penny but the classic style and shop guarantees a good cost per wear. This is an equally beautiful raffia trunk bag, and its on sale…

S p r i n t, this Muun bag on TRR is beautiful and the price is stellar.

These bags come in four sizes and are perfect for an every day tote and/or farmers market bag. Again, price is very very good.

Okay, this is my next purchase. In fact, if my budget permit, I would take one of everything on MUUÑ’s website. (This is my second favorite)!!

Hereu is one of those brands that really feel like they are mastering innovation and creativity. This raffia shopper is a rich, beautiful color and would make for a perfect tote for everyday wear.

Lastly, this bag from Bembien is sweet and perfect for a night out or for those of us who travel light during the day. This one by Reformation and this one by Staud are is very similar. If you have some money to spend, Khaite’s Simona bag is a stunner.
