One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that the hotter it gets, the less interested I become in complicated outfits. Layers disappear, accessories become minimal, and I naturally gravitate toward pieces that feel effortless the moment I put them on.

It’s made me realize something.

A great pair of shorts, a lightweight knit, simple flat sandals, and a woven hat are often all you need. None of those pieces are particularly groundbreaking on their own, but together they create an outfit that feels polished without trying too hard.

When temperatures climb, there’s very little room for “almost.” If something wrinkles beyond repair, feels restrictive, or only works with one specific outfit, it usually stays in the closet.

Instead, I find myself reaching for the same handful of pieces over and over again. They’re comfortable without looking casual. Simple without feeling plain. Timeless without trying to prove it.

At just $59.99, it’s one of those sale finds that genuinely looks and feels far more expensive than its price tag. The textured plaid fabric in shades of white, blue, and black gives it a beautifully elevated feel, while the cotton blend with 28% linen adds just the right amount of structure. The quality honestly surprised me—it holds its shape beautifully, which is something I always look for in a blazer.

What I love most, though, is how effortless it is to style. It’s one of those pieces you can throw on with your favorite jeans to instantly look more put together, but it works just as well with tailored trousers, shorts, or a simple skirt. It’s the kind of blazer that quietly does all the heavy lifting, making even the simplest outfit feel polished.

I’m also loving the subtle peplum silhouette. It’s a nod to one of this season’s biggest trends, but it’s done in such a wearable way that it doesn’t feel overly trend-driven. It adds just enough shape to make an outfit feel feminine and interesting without sacrificing versatility.

After spending over a decade visiting Palm Springs, I’ve realized I’m consistently drawn to a very specific kind of stay: small, intimate properties that feel like a home away from home.

Not necessarily quiet in the sense of “simple,” because many of my favorites are absolutely beautiful, highly designed, and very much iconic in their own right — but they carry a different kind of energy. More private, more grounded, more personal. The kind of places where the scale feels human, and the experience feels more like settling in somewhere than checking into a hotel.

It’s been over 10 years since we first stayed at L’Horizon Resort & Spa, and it has remained one of our favorite places to stay in Palm Springs ever since.

Recently, we finally had a chance to stay at Hermann Bungalows (located on the L’Horizon property), and we were completely blown away by how gorgeous they are. The entire property feels incredibly peaceful and private, but the bungalows especially have such a relaxed, almost residential feel to them — which is exactly what we love. Beautifully designed, very serene, and it genuinely feels like you’re staying in your own little Palm Springs hideaway.

This time around, a lovely young lady decided that my latest outfit choice was entirely inappropriate. More specifically, her exact words were:
“Aren’t you like 40? Why do you dress like Gen Z?”

To be completely honest with you, I actually laughed when I first read it. Not in a mean way, not in an offended way… more in a genuinely fascinated kind of way. Because once again, I find myself wondering: what exactly is a 40-year-old woman supposed to dress like?

But more importantly… who decided that?

I’m turning 45 this year, and the truth is, my style hasn’t dramatically changed over the years because I haven’t dramatically changed. I still gravitate toward the same things I always loved — feminine dresses, oversized blazers, denim, mini skirts, beautiful shoes, playful trends, romantic details. I still enjoy experimenting with fashion. I still save outfit inspiration. I still get excited about getting dressed.

And no, I don’t see any of that as something with an expiration date attached to it.

I think somewhere along the way, society quietly decided that women are supposed to become more invisible with age. More “appropriate.” More toned down. Less playful. Less noticeable. As if joy, experimentation, and self-expression belong exclusively to youth.

But personally? I find the opposite to be true.

The older I get, the less interested I am in dressing for other people’s expectations and the more interested I am in dressing for myself. For my mood. For the life I want to romanticize.

And honestly, if I want to wear a short skirt to dinner with my husband, carry a tiny little bag that barely fits my lip gloss, or try a trend that a 22-year-old on TikTok also happens to love… I will. Happily.

So no… I don’t dress “my age.”
I dress like myself.

Trust me when I tell you that the last thing I wanted was to fall in love with an expensive eye cream… but here we are.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I am a very avid beauty consumer, but I generally prefer to keep my skincare and beauty routine reasonably priced. I love discovering products that perform well without feeling unnecessarily over-the-top.

But… I tried the Cle de Peau Beauté Eye Contour Cream Supreme, and it completely blew me out of the water.

Yes, this cream is expensive. But I have to be honest: it made a visible difference in my under-eye area. My skin looks brighter, smoother, more rested to such an extent that I find myself wearing significantly less makeup under my eyes.

As I get older and approach 45, it’s not always easy to maintain that “barely there” makeup look. Skin changes, the under-eye area changes, makeup settles differently… all the fun things. Let me preface this article by saying that although I’ve had plenty of experience with the legendary service of The Ritz-Carlton, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection feels like something entirely its own.

There are certain trips that feel special while you’re on them… and then there are the ones that stay with you long after you return home. My recent voyage through the Virgin Islands aboard Ilma, part of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, very firmly falls into the second category.

Ilma, the gorgeous yacht we sailed on, features 224 suites - yet it never feels crowded. We always enjoyed plenty of privacy and space, and the generous guest-to-employee ratio means you are constantly surrounded by warm, welcoming faces ready to help, often before you even realize you need something. The level of care is extraordinary.

Life inside my suite aboard Ilma:

Our suite was beautifully spacious and incredibly stylish, with a luxurious modern living and dining area, a custom king bed sleep system that made it dangerously easy to sleep in, and a private terrace overlooking the ocean that quickly became my favorite spot to enjoy morning coffee or a glass of champagne at sunset.

I would also love to say special thank you to our wonderful Suite Ambassador, who went above and beyond to make our stay feel seamless and deeply relaxing. From thoughtful details in our suite to anticipating little moments of comfort throughout the voyage, their attention made the experience feel incredibly personal.

My favorite dining experience: Seta Su Ilma:

Dining on board Ilma deserves serious praise. We enjoyed multiple meals on board and each one was exceptional - but the one that left the biggest impression was at Seta Su Ilma, the restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Fabio Trabocchi.

To put it simply, it was unforgettable. The flavors, the presentation, the service - everything came together to create one of those meals you continue thinking about long after the voyage ends. If you ever sail aboard Ilma, I cannot recommend this dining experience enough.

Beyond Seta Su Ilma, there are so many other dining opportunities to explore. We loved Mistral for lunch al fresco, The Pool Bar to relax in between dips in the pool, and of course we have to mention the in-suite dining, for gourmet cuisine in the comfort of our very own private suite.

Since I am a fashion girl, I also cannot help but highlight the beautiful collaboration between The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and designer Johanna Ortiz. A longtime fan of Johanna’s elegant and joyful designs, I was especially excited to see her signature world of custom prints and textiles brought on board. Johanna Ortiz designs with elegance and festivity, deeply rooted in her Latin heritage. Although there are plenty of places to spend time on board, I would love to highlight two destinations in particular.

The Marina is truly special. When Ilma is at anchor, the Marina transforms into a waterside playground with sun loungers and an array of water activities. Just above it, The Marina Terrace is the perfect place to hang out with a handcrafted cocktail while looking out toward the beautiful ocean views.

Equally inviting is The Pool, which quickly became one of our personal favorite hang-out spots. Beautiful and stylish, with panoramic views, generous sundecks, and nearby frozen cocktails, it’s the kind of place where time quietly disappears. You come for a quick dip and suddenly realize you’ve been happily lounging for hours.

The verdict?

Well, I’m sure it’s not surprising: Ilma is a 10 out of 10 recommend.

And the real takeaway is this - yes, Ilma is stunning. Yes, the design is beautiful and the dining exceptional. But what truly defines the experience is the feeling: the sense of ease, the thoughtful details, and the genuine warmth of the team on board who make every moment on board feel effortless.

And yet… every now and then, something expensive sneaks into your life and proves its worth. Not in a dramatic, life-changing way — but in that quietly satisfying “well, this was actually a good decision” kind of way. Which is exactly how these three items earned their place in my permanent rotation.

1. Elemis Pro-Radiance Hand and Nail Cream

I know, I know… I talk about it way too much, but it really is THAT GOOD!

I use this cream every single day, and especially before bed. It keeps my hands hydrated, but the real magic is what it does for my nails. They grow faster, stronger, and longer! So yes it’s $60 but it’s one of those small luxuries that feels indulgent but actually delivers results.

2. SLVRLAKE Cassie Jeans

Yes, they cost $339.

Yes, that is a lot of money for denim. But also… the cost per wear is now embarrassingly low because I wear them constantly.

The Cassie jeans somehow manage to pair with almost everything in my closet. The denim quality is beautiful, they wash well, and they maintain their shape instead of slowly turning into something vaguely unstructured and disappointing after six months.

In my mind, these have officially reached forever jeans status.

3. Manu Atelier East West Bag

Ladies and Gentleman, we have officially entered the “a bit painful at checkout” category…

The East West bag from Manu Atelier costs around $740, but it has quietly become one of the most used bags in my wardrobe. The chocolate brown suede is beautiful, the quality feels incredibly solid, and despite being a smaller tote, it fits all of my daily essentials without any strategic packing gymnastics.

It’s versatile, understated, and one of those pieces that just works with everything — which is probably why I reach for it so often.

So what’s the takeaway here? While yes, most expensive things are absolutely not worth it, every now and then, a product or piece proves that the price tag wasn’t entirely marketing magic. And honestly, I am here for these unicorns!

Controversial opinion? Ok - you got it! Most expensive skincare is not worth it… There. I said it. The beauty industry is incredibly good at selling aspiration — heavy glass jars, silk-lined boxes, and “proprietary complexes” that sound like they belong in a lab more than on your bathroom shelf. Beautiful? Yes. Necessary? Not always…

But here’s the twist — sometimes it actually is worth it. Every now and then, a formula delivers results that justify the splurge. So today, I’m sharing 2 luxury products that earned their place in my routine, and the affordable staples I use confidently (and happily) every single day.

Let us start with the 2 exceptions…

It lasts forever. It works. It’s gentle. It never irritates my skin. For sensitive skin especially, this is a dream. I have zero desire to replace it with something more expensive.

$20 – Naturium Vitamin C Complex Serum

This could easily be one of the best vitamin C serums I’ve tried lately — and I try a lot. It’s stable, effective, and gives me that brightness and clarity without irritation. You absolutely do not need to spend triple digits for good vitamin C.

$9 – The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner

Nine dollars. And it works.
It smooths texture, improves clarity, and keeps my skin looking fresh. Sometimes simple formulations outperform luxury ones because they focus on one active ingredient and execute it well.

So… Is Expensive Skincare Worth It?

Most of the time? No, but… occasionally, a formula truly stands out — when research, ingredients, and results align, and you can actually see and feel the difference, that’s when the splurge makes sense.

So, what’s the takeaway here? Spend your money wisely. Invest in products or brands with a proven track record, and don’t let the price tag alone decide if a product is worth it. The smartest routine is usually a mix of both.

I’ve realized something about myself: I genuinely love this little ritual of looking back at what worked… and what very much did not. After all, this is the space to be honest, a little subjective( or a lot), and (hopefully) useful.

January, as it turns out, had opinions. Some purchases quietly slipped into my routine, while others looked beautiful in theory but didn’t quite translate into real life. And while I am tempted to begin with the wins, today we’re starting with the lessons.

What Didn’t Quite Work

TOTEME Cocktail Naplack Patent-Leather Shoulder Bag

I was completely seduced by this bag. The silhouette, the gloss, the long-handle minimalism — everything about it felt very now. And yes, the elongated handle trend is everywhere for good reason: elegant, effortless, architectural.

But here’s the practical reality: it fits… almost nothing. Not even my phone comfortably. Which makes it less a bag and more a very beautiful object. And while I admire it aesthetically, I don’t reach for pieces that require compromise at this level. For me, style has to function, so while I do enjoy the look of this bag, I am painfully aware that most likely I will jot get a lot of use out of it. However, I do love the SLVRLAKE Cassie Jeans I am wearing in the look above because I’ve been getting o much use out of them. I got lots of questions about these jeans on my stories, so linking them HERE AGAIN just in case.

Helsa Sabine Dress in Silk Chiffon

Helsa has been a somewhat mixed experience for me. I’m consistently drawn to the designs — they’re exactly the kind of understated, feminine pieces I love — but the sizing and overall quality have been inconsistent, to say the least.

This dress was a perfect example. I ordered my usual size, and the waist was comically large — not slightly off, but dramatically so. Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated incident. I’ve had repeated sizing issues with the brand in both directions (too big, too small), to the point where, as much as I genuinely admire the aesthetic, I’m starting to feel hesitant about continuing to invest.

Which is a shame, because on paper, Helsa should be a perfect match for my wardrobe.

Flair Pro 3 Manual Espresso Machine

Let me preface this by saying that for years, I was the only coffee drinker in our family, perfectly content with my Nespresso machine. That is, until last year, when my husband, my mother, and my father-in-law all jumped on the coffee train and suddenly became serious coffee connoisseurs. At that point, we felt compelled to upgrade our home coffee situation. So, enter Flair Pro 3 Manual Espresso Machine - a purchase born from romanticism. The idea of a manual espresso ritual, precision control, café-quality coffee at home — all very appealing in theory.

In practice? It’s complicated, time-consuming, and surprisingly messy, especially when making more than one cup. Yes, you can produce excellent espresso with it. But I also learned that I personally value ease and repeatability in my morning coffee. Some rituals are lovely; others are just… impractical before caffeine.

This fully lived up to the hype — which rarely happens. It’s one of those rare tech purchases that genuinely integrates into daily life. My husband is obsessed with table tennis; I’ve discovered an unexpected love for virtual bowling and immersive movie watching. It’s fun, active, oddly social, and surprisingly relaxing. A true shared joy purchase.

Guerlain Vanille Planifolia Extrait 21

Technically, this was gifted — but it deserves a place here because it completely enchanted me. This is not a typical vanilla. It’s vanilla pushed to its most refined, concentrated, almost luminous expression: warm, textured, sophisticated, and unmistakably Guerlain.

There’s a depth and polish to it that feels both comforting and elevated. It wears close yet leaves an impression — the kind of fragrance people lean in to notice rather than immediately identify. Truly magical.

January, it seems, was a reminder that beautiful objects don’t always translate into lived satisfaction — and that occasionally, something exceeds expectation entirely.

If social media has taught us anything, it’s that Valentine’s Day is supposed to look like a movie — grand gestures, over-the-top gifts, and larger-than-life romance. And while I love social media, I firmly believe that it can create absolutely unrealistic expectations for relationships.

Now, there’s nothing inherently wrong with everything I just listed, and grand gestures definitely have their place in a relationship.

I love grand gestures as much as the next person, but I also appreciate the quiet, less grandiose moments in our marriage. They’re the moments that don’t photograph well and wouldn’t stop a scroll. The quick coffee runs, the shared errands, the conversations that happen in the car without eye contact, the unspoken understanding of what kind of night it’s going to be. They’re the routines you fall into without realizing they’re becoming traditions. The quiet jokes, the familiar glances, the comfort of knowing exactly who you’re sitting next to — even when nothing particularly exciting is happening.

And so, if I’m perfectly honest, I’d say that Valentine’s Day for us is rather simple. We haven’t gone out for years; most of the time, we spend the day at home, cooking something together, watching our favorite movies, or simply talking. The funny thing is, I wouldn’t change this for the world — I much prefer these small, quiet moments of happiness over everything else.

So yes, there are definitely “Valentine’s Day” after 19 years of marriage, but what it looks like is entirely up to you.

I’m realizing something about myself: I genuinely enjoy this little ritual of reflecting on what worked… and what absolutely did not. A space to be honest, a little vulnerable, and (hopefully) helpful.

December, in particular, was a mixed bag. Some purchases surprised me in the best way, while others reminded me that hype and reality don’t always align. And while I usually like to start on a high note, today we’re doing things differently. Let’s begin with the ones that didn’t quite earn their place.

Regrets

1. Patrick Ta – Major Headlines Double-Take Crème & Powder Blush Duo

This one truly surprised me — and not in a good way. I wanted to love it. The packaging is chic, the shade range is beautiful, and the formula gets endless praise. But on me? It was a no.

Every time I applied it, it disrupted my base, ate right through my foundation, and left everything looking heavy, obvious, and slightly cakey — the opposite of what I want from a blush. I kept trying to make it work, adjusting my technique, using different brushes… but it never quite settled.

In case you were wondering — yes, I do like some cream blushes. The ILIA Multi-Stick (especially in the shade A Fine Romance ) melts into the skin, looks naturally flushed, and doesn’t fight my entire face for attention.

2. Saint Laurent Amalia Slingback Pumps in Patent Leather

Let me start by saying: these shoes are stunning. Sculptural, elegant, and undeniably luxurious. I debated this purchase for a while because, yes — the price tag is serious. But curiosity won.

Unfortunately, that curiosity lasted about as long as I could stand in them… which wasn’t very long at all. The moment I put them on, I knew. Not “maybe uncomfortable,” but immediately unwearable. Walking felt unrealistic, standing felt strained, and no amount of convincing myself could override the discomfort. It was a “HARD NO” from the moment I out them on!

I said what I said… Although I have many hotels I absolutely adore, there’s something about the Commodore Perry Estate—or perhaps everything about it—that just melts my heart like nothing else.

Let me start by saying: we were in town for Formula 1, which is always exciting and electric, but walking through the gates of the estate felt like stepping into another world entirely. A world of quiet luxury, lush gardens, warm service, and that signature Auberge magic.

I thought I knew what to expect—I’ve stayed at many beautiful hotels—but the Commodore Perry managed to surprise me at every turn. More charming, more atmospheric, more special… just more.

Let me take you through a few highlights.

Mornings in the Garden Nook

Breakfast at the estate feels like a soft, slow, dreamy start to the day. Whether you’re craving something healthy—like an avocado-and-oat-milk smoothie—or leaning into something indulgent (the fried chicken biscuit with a side of estate-smoked bacon is otherworldly), this is the place to be.

And the setting? Worth the visit on its own.

The Garden Nook is wrapped in whimsical, one-of-a-kind Pierre Frey parrot-patterned wallpaper, opening onto a terrace overlooking the pool. Sunlight pouring in, birds in the garden, quiet conversations, the prettiest plates… breakfast simply doesn’t get better.

Poolside Afternoons

The pool at Commodore Perry has that calm, elegant vibe I always look for—a little secluded, a little glamorous, and totally relaxing. Surrounded by greenery and beautiful landscaping, it’s the kind of place where an hour easily turns into an entire afternoon.

We loved lounging here before heading out for the races. It’s serene, warm, and beautifully designed—like your own private oasis in the middle of Austin.

A Rejuvenating Elemis Facial

One of my absolute must-dos? A facial at the estate’s spa.

I opted for an Elemis treatment, and it was heavenly. Soothing, hydrating, restorative—everything my skin needed after long days in the sun and the F1 excitement. I left glowing, refreshed, and honestly wishing I had booked a second appointment.

The spa itself is intimate and calming, filled with soft colors and warm textures that instantly put you at ease.

Dinner at Lutie’s

Now this is an experience.

Lutie’s is the estate’s signature restaurant, imagined through designer Ken Fulk’s whimsical lens and inspired by estate matriarch Lutie Perry—famous for her sparkling Jazz Age soirées. The moment you step inside, you feel that spirit of celebration and charm.

It’s elegant without trying, glamorous without being formal, and just the perfect place for a long, delicious dinner. Craft cocktails, beautifully prepared dishes, warm lighting, lush garden views—everything comes together effortlessly.

Whether you’re there for an intimate date or a lively dinner with friends, it’s unforgettable.

Final Thoughts

Our stay at the Commodore Perry Estate was everything I love in a getaway: beauty, comfort, amazing food, restorative spa moments, thoughtful service, and that indescribable sense of calm that Auberge properties do better than anyone.

Magda Butrym Pointed Flower Mules

Listen… these are stunning. Like, stop-you-in-your-tracks stunning. I had such high hopes — the satin, the iconic flower detail, that sharp pointed toe. They’re a moment.

But they are also, quite possibly, some of the most uncomfortable shoes I’ve ever worn. And trust me, my tolerance for a difficult shoe is high. These? Not it. The satin digs, the toe pinches, and every step feels like I’m walking on glass.

The worst part? Obviously… they’re not returnable. So I’ll just keep them on my shelf as a crushing reminder of how important it is to really try shoes on before making a full commitment.

rhode Pocket Blush

I wanted to love this. I tried to love this — so many different ways. But this blush simply does not stay on. It eats through foundation, lifts base makeup, and refuses to sit evenly no matter how little or how much I apply. A hard NO for me!

If you want longevity, go for the Yves Saint Laurent Make Me Blush 12H Blurring Liquid Blush instead. It stays put, blends beautifully, and actually performs the way a blush is supposed to.

LilySilk Chocolate Sweatshirt + Sweatpants

Chocolate is the color of the season — rich, warm, chic, and surprisingly versatile. And this LilySilk set? A total dream. The sweatshirt + sweatpants combo is soft, polished, and elevated enough that you can wear it running errands, lounging at home, or styled with a trench and sneakers for that effortless cool-girl vibe.I’ve been wearing it pretty much non stop latterly, so definitely a huge YES from me!

Burberry Optical Frames

I’m not even a little bit dramatic when I say these are some of the best frames I’ve owned. The rectangular silhouette is clean and modern, and the polished green shade is such a refreshing twist — subtle enough to stay timeless, but unique enough to feel intentional and fashion-forward. They’re flattering, beautifully made, and ridiculously versatile. If you’ve been thinking about updating your glasses, these are a 10/10 recommend.

The Row 90s Leather Tote

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but yes — this is a regret, and a major one at that. To say this one hurt is an understatement. This bag had been on my wishlist for a while, and I was over the moon when I finally got it. So, what went wrong?

The problem is the leather. The way it stains is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before — it marks from simply handling or touching the bag. It leaves fingerprints everywhere, even when my hands are completely dry and lotion-free. I’ve already had it cleaned once and was told that it’s just the nature of this leather and that I need to handle it with care. Not that I was ever rough with it before, but now it feels like I’ll need to wear gloves just to use it.

Danessa Myricks Foundation

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m very biased when it comes to foundation. I like a natural look, a lightweight, skin-like finish, and a bit of a glow. So when I heard that Danessa Myricks released a Skin Tint Foundation with Peptides + Ceramides, I was super excited to try it. Glowing reviews aside, for me the selling point was that it offers light, radiant coverage and, while it wears like makeup, it works like skincare—delivering hydration and care.

Sadly, it really didn’t work for me, and I returned it right away. It felt heavy and cakey, emphasized skin flaws and my pores, and on top of that, it didn’t do a great job covering the melasma on my cheeks. Great in theory, but it just didn’t work for me. I’ll be sticking to my CHANEL Les Beiges and Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint.

ASOS DESIGN tailored balloon pants

Now, onto the good things… so, September was a good month for pants and my first and favorite find were these gorgeous tailored balloon pants from ASOS! Just under $60, I LOVE the style, the shape, and the way they paired beautifully with heels and flats. They are also available in a beautiful burgundy, which I am definitely be buying as well! Alaïa Infradito Sandals

Disregard everything I’ve ever said about flats being a better shoe option or high heels being on their way out! No, no, no, NO! Heels are it, and these gorgeous Alaïa sandals are why I’ve been completely reformed as a heel wearer. So beautiful, so chic—I love that you can wear them at night, but they also pair perfectly with more casual, everyday items.

These were a bit of a gamble for me since I wasn’t sure how comfortable they’d be (heeled thong sandals can go very wrong very fast), but I went for it anyway since they were practically 60% off—and I’m so glad I did. They are phenomenal: comfortable, stylish, and probably my favorite shoe at the moment. I’ve linked them for you HERE, in case you’re interested.
