And this week, something shifted.

Maybe it’s the weather. New York has finally given us a little breeze, blue skies and those first tiny hints that fall is coming. There’s something about walking outside and feeling that change in the air that does something to me. It makes everything feel a little lighter.

I’ve also been spending a lot of time with my girls lately, and there is truly nothing like their love to pull you straight back into the present. Kids don’t care what might happen next month or six months from now. They care that you’re sitting on the floor with them right now. I’m trying to take a page out of their book.

And, as you could probably tell from last Sunday’s Edit, my brain has officially moved on to fall dressing.

While my mom was here, we also embarked on what can only be described as a massive closet edit. Every closet was emptied. Everything came out. We sorted, organized, donated and put it all back together.

And can I tell you something slightly ridiculous?

Opening my closet now genuinely makes me happy.

Like… I smile.

Why does organizing a drawer or cleaning out a closet suddenly make it feel like your entire life is under control? When the world feels a little chaotic, apparently I just need matching hangers and a donation pile.

So this week’s Edit is very much about that feeling: clearing things out, getting dressed for the season ahead, spending time with the people I love and appreciating the little things that make everyday life feel good.

AROUND HERE

I blinked this week and now it’s basically September. My new favorite tradition with my girls is going outside after dinner to take a walk around the block. There’s something grounding about breathing the fresh air before we enter the bedtime routine.

THE CLOSET EDIT

There is nothing like pulling everything out of a closet to make you question approximately 40% of your purchasing decisions.

My mom and I went closet by closet while she was here—mine, the entry closet, all of it. We made piles, donated, reorganized and actually put things back in a way that makes sense.

And now that I can actually see what I own, I’ve realized I don’t necessarily need an entirely new fall wardrobe. There are pieces I already have that I’m excited to wear again, plus a few things I want to add to make everything feel current.

Staying in my closet:

On my fall wish list:

My new rule: if I can’t immediately think of at least three ways I’d wear it with something I already own, it probably doesn’t need to come home with me.

• At least one more of these cozy sets. So easy to throw on for school drop off or running errands. I would pair her with a brown oversized leather jacket when the air gets crisper.

• Dark wash denim is trending for fall. I’m eyeing this pair.

• My black boots have finished their job & this is likely my replacement pair. Love the toe on these.

  

BEAUTY FAVORITES

• Tried and true, can’t get enough of this moisturizer. Every morning and every night.

• Being a mom means reaching for a clip every five seconds. These make me happy.

• For the face and neck. When I’m consistent, it’s a game changer for pigmentation, skin tightening and glow.

One of my favorite things about living in New York is that there is always somewhere new to try—or somewhere old that I can’t stay away from.

I think my biggest reminder to myself this week is that I don’t have to have everything figured out.

Sometimes it’s enough to notice the breeze. Sit on the floor with your kids. Clean out a closet. Wear something you love. Make dinner. Go for a walk.

There will always be something ahead to think about.

But there’s a lot of good happening right now, too.

And I don’t want to miss it.

I thought I knew what working in fashion looked like by then.

I didn’t.

A recruiter named Orlando had reached out to me about a Digital Manager position. From the moment I walked into the Carolina Herrera offices for my first interview, I remember being surrounded by the most beautiful clothes I had ever seen.

One floor below us was the atelier.

Everything was being made by hand. Beading painstakingly stitched into place. Delicate lace appliqué applied by hand, sometimes taking days to complete. Dresses that looked less like clothes and more like works of art.

I had walked into a fashion fairytale.

I stepped into the office of the woman who would become my boss.

She was thin, with brown hair and a big presence. The kind that could make even the most confident interviewee feel the hairs on her arms stand up.

She interviewed me for a while before calling Mrs. Herrera into the room.

And then the entire energy changed.

Mrs. Herrera floated in as if the Queen of England had just entered.

Everyone called her Mrs. Herrera. Never Carolina. Never anything else. The formality felt almost from another era—which, in many ways, was how the company operated.

She was immaculate.

She often wore her signature white button-down tucked into a beautiful skirt, always with heels. She smelled of Carolina Herrera perfume—a huge part of the business—and somehow always looked as though someone had just finished dressing her.

Her presence filled a room without her having to try.

She was polished, confident, direct and, in my experience, incredibly kind. Someone would bring her tea and lunch on a silver tray. She had a driver. Her daughters, who I love, were heavily involved in the company.

It was another world.

And I desperately wanted to be part of it.

I got the job.

I learned almost immediately that I was essentially a digital team of one in New York.

There was a woman in Barcelona, along with her assistant, whom I would eventually become close with, and another team in Asia. It was my first experience working as part of a truly international business.

The time differences alone were an education.

There were very early mornings with Europe and very late nights with Asia. But at that point, I didn’t care.

I was working at Carolina Herrera.

My desk sat in the PR room, although I rarely seemed to actually be sitting at it.

My role touched everything: social media, the website, email, photo shoots, Fashion Week, campaigns, model styling, behind-the-scenes content and seemingly endless travel.

I had never worked harder in my life.

And there was a uniform—spoken and otherwise.

Mrs. Herrera wore heels.

So we wore heels. Very much like my Anna Wintour experience.

I learned that lesson the hard way.

Before one fashion show, I was running up and down between floors managing content creation. I had put on sneakers because, quite literally, I was running around trying to do my job.

I was reprimanded for it.

Hard.

I wouldn’t make that mistake in Mrs. Herrera’s presence again.

From then on, I kept Manolo Blahniks under my desk. We had a partnership with the brand, so I had been lucky enough to acquire a few pairs.

Just think about the absurdity of that for a moment.

I was working impossibly long days, running between floors and across New York City—and there were Manolo Blahniks waiting under my desk because sneakers weren’t going to cut it.

It was glamorous.

It was ridiculous.

And at the time, I loved it.

The travel was just as relentless.

I was told the night before—or occasionally the same day—that I was going to London. Or Paris. Or Barcelona.

There was no real planning your life around the job.

The job was your life.

One day while working with my team in Barcelona, my boss told me I needed to fly back to New York.

So I did.

Then, after sending me all the way back across the Atlantic, she informed me that I would be flying to London later that same evening.

Back to Europe.

My coworkers in Barcelona eventually told me something that made the whole situation even harder to understand.

She had already known.

She knew I needed to be in London and still had me fly all the way back to New York first—only to turn around and cross the Atlantic again hours later.

That was when I started to understand something about my boss.

It began to feel like control was part of the point.

Everyone was expected to fall in line.

But this weekend, my mom and my two sisters are coming to town, and I couldn’t be more excited for some special time together. I’m thinking good restaurants, maybe playing tourist in my own city, staying up too late talking, and—my favorite part—watching everyone love on my girls.

There’s such a warm feeling that comes with having your people show up for you. The ones who know you, love you, and somehow make everything feel a little lighter just by being there.

Also, the temperatures dropped ever so slightly in New York this week, which naturally means my fall obsession is now in full effect. Never mind that it’s still August. I’ve mentally moved on to suede, denim, loafers, jackets, and everything that comes with my favorite season.

So, family time, a little New York wandering, and lots of fall scheming ahead.

WHAT I’M WEARING

We’re officially in that strange New York stretch where it feels like fall in the morning and summer again by lunch.

So I’m leaning into transitional dressing: a dress with a light jacket, denim with a tank and loafers, ballet flats instead of sandals—the tiny swaps that make an outfit feel like fall without pretending it’s actually sweater weather yet.

THE FALL LIST

Okay, I know. It’s August.

But I can’t help myself.

I’ve officially started building my fall wish list, and instead of buying everything I see, I’m trying to think about the handful of pieces that will actually change what I already own.

This year I’m looking for:

The jacket — something I can throw over jeans, dresses, basically everything.

The shoe — probably a loafer or ballet flat that makes even the simplest outfit feel intentional.

The denim — dark, clean, and slightly more polished than what I’ve been living in all summer.

The bag — an everyday shape in suede or a rich brown that instantly makes an outfit feel like fall.

I’ll keep adding to the list as we get closer to actual fall, but consider this the beginning of my annual seasonal spiral.

This week: a supplement for women postpartum. I’ve been reading so much lately about how long the postpartum period can affect our bodies, which honestly surprised me. This one is designed to support some of the areas women may need during recovery.

Let people show up for you.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

We’re so used to saying I’m fine or I’ve got it—even during the seasons when, if we’re being truthful, we very much do not have it.

But there’s something incredibly comforting about the people who don’t need you to have everything together. They just come. They sit with you, make you laugh, love on your kids, order dinner, and remind you who you are.

So this week, my one thing is simple: let your people show up.

And when they need you someday, show up for them too.

After years of internships, knocking on doors, trying to get myself to New York and then trying to stay there, this felt different.

It felt like the beginning of an actual career.

I was hired to work on the Club Monaco side of the business within Ralph Lauren, and on my very first day, my boss got a phone call.

I sat there listening to her say, “Yes. Yes. Okay.”

Then she hung up and looked at me.

“Your title is actually Associate.”

Just like that, before I had even really started, I’d been promoted from Coordinator to Associate.

At the time, I thought: Well, this is going well.

There would be more to that story later.

The job was intense. My boss was intense. Her boss was intense. There were big personalities, questionable decisions and the kind of workplace dynamics that, looking back now, I can recognize as deeply unhealthy.

But it was also my first real step.

And toxic or not, it taught me a lot.

I met the Coordinator on our team, who instantly became one of my closest friends—and who I still talk to today. We were young and working in fashion in New York, learning the industry side by side. We’d borrow samples from the closet to wear to events or around the office, surrounded by beautiful clothes and all the little perks that made the job feel exciting, even when the reality behind the scenes was anything but glamorous.

There was something intoxicating about it.

Until there wasn’t.

There were plenty of nights when I was at the office until one or two in the morning, sorting clothes for e-commerce or social shoots, only to make the 45-minute commute home, sleep for a few hours and be back at my desk by nine.

Then I learned something from my friend.

She was getting paid overtime.

I wasn’t.

Because I had been made an Associate.

That shiny title I had been handed on my first day suddenly looked a little different.

I came home from last weekend with a very full heart.

What was supposed to be a weekend out East with three of my best friends from college turned into something even sweeter—they surprised me with a birthday lunch.

Having a birthday on Christmas Day means birthday parties have never really been a thing for me. I honestly can’t remember the last time I had one. So, naturally, my best friend decided that needed to change—and somehow pulled off a lunch with some of my favorite people all in one place.

There’s something about being with the friends who knew you before.

Before husbands. Before kids. Before careers and school drop-offs and calendars that require military-level coordination. Sitting around a table with three of my best friends from college and our husbands, I felt grounded back into that version of myself for a minute. Not because I want to go backwards, but because it’s nice to remember that she’s still in there.

We laughed, ate, watched our kids play together and celebrated a birthday approximately four months early. 😂 It was perfect.

And now I’m back in New York, where summer is very much not over—but apparently my brain has decided otherwise.

I’ve started scheming fall outfits, saving loafers and jackets I absolutely do not need yet, and planning the girls’ back-to-school wardrobes. There’s something about August that always makes me want to reset a little. Keep the ease of summer, but start thinking about what’s next.

So this week’s Edit is a little bit of both: the things filling my cup right now and the things I’m already eyeing for fall.

WHAT I WORE: OUT EAST

Last weekend was one of those weekends that required a little bit of everything—swimsuits, easy daytime looks, something cute for dinner and, unbeknownst to me, an outfit worthy of my own surprise birthday lunch.

I loved getting dressed without overthinking it. Easy dresses, sandals, a great pair of sunglasses—the kind of summer wardrobe that makes you wonder why getting dressed in February has to be so complicated.

THE FALL LIST

Yes, I know it’s August.

Yes, it’s still approximately one million degrees outside.

And yes, I am already thinking about fall clothes.

This is always my favorite fashion season. I don’t want to completely overhaul my wardrobe—I want a few pieces that make everything I already own feel new again.

Right now, I’m looking at:

THE SUEDE SOMETHING
A bag, jacket (under $90!) or shoe. Suede is the quickest way to make an outfit feel like fall without actually dressing for cold weather.

THE PERFECT LOAFER
With jeans, trousers, skirts, dresses—I’m convinced a good loafer fixes almost any outfit.

THE JACKET (just bought her & can’t wait to wear her!)
Something slightly oversized that I can throw over a white tee and denim now and layer with knits later.

DARK DENIM
After months of white jeans and light washes, dark denim suddenly feels very right.

THE EVERYDAY BAG
Something polished enough for meetings but practical enough for school drop-off. The eternal search.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL, BUT MAKE IT CUTE

Possibly even more fun than shopping for myself: shopping for the girls.

I’ve been putting together their back-to-school wardrobes, and my strategy is essentially the same as it is for my own closet—buy fewer things that all work together.

Think: great little sweaters, easy dresses, cute sneakers, matching sets and jackets they can throw over everything.

The goal is cute enough that I love it, comfortable enough that they’ll actually wear it.

BEAUTY

This is a love letter to my toothbrush haha. No, but seriously this is the best one I’ve ever tried. Easy to charge, easy to travel with, and does the job.

Make plans with the people who knew you before your life became your life.

There was something unexpectedly grounding about being surrounded by friends who have known me through so many different versions of myself.

You don’t have to become the person you were at 20 again. (Thank God.) But every once in a while, it’s nice to sit across from someone who remembers her.

I came back to the University of Texas for my final year a different person—driven, determined, and ready to figure out what came next.

By then, my parents had moved from New York back to Texas, and I was convinced to stay close to home after graduation.

If I’m being completely transparent, it hurt.

I had spent years picturing my life in New York. Every internship made me want it more. I knew where I wanted to be, and suddenly I was moving in the opposite direction.

But staying in Texas didn’t stop me from dreaming bigger.

I landed a job at PaperCity, a fashion and lifestyle publication based in Dallas and Houston.

On my first day, I walked through the doors and found myself surrounded by people who had worked in New York before eventually making their way back to Texas.

Maybe I wasn’t in New York yet, but I was still getting closer to the world I wanted to be part of.

And I learned—a lot.

I started at the bottom. I wrote for print. I helped launch the magazine’s social media presence. When we completely rebuilt the website and began investing more heavily in digital, my role grew with it.

Eventually, I transitioned almost entirely to digital—managing the editorial calendar, taking full ownership of social media, and becoming involved in the fashion shoots for each cover.

I also interviewed some incredible people.

I’ll never forget when my boss told me a few hours before she was going to interview Sarah Jessica Parker that I should go instead. My heart skipped a beat. As I walked in with a full shaking body, I found that butterfly feeling again.

I was 24 years old, interviewing someone I had admired for years—it felt completely out of body. And in case you were wondering, she was every bit as lovely in person.

Within two years, I had been promoted as far as I could go.

I was now 25 years old, sitting in an office with a title I had worked incredibly hard for, and looking at a career path that could have kept me there for the rest of my life.

On paper, everything was working.

There was just one problem.

I couldn’t stop looking out the window and thinking about New York.

I couldn’t shake it.

There are certain feelings you can rationalize away for a while. You can tell yourself you’re lucky. That you have a good job. That you’re building a career. That staying put is the smart thing to do.

But then there are the feelings that live somewhere deeper.

This one lived in my gut.

I had to go.

I had to at least try.

I remember telling my parents I was moving to New York.

It was not a good conversation.

I ran out of the house bawling, got into my car, and cried some more. I was completely torn between what other people thought was right for me and what I knew, somewhere deep down, was right for me.

The next morning, I gave my two weeks’ notice.

I sold my car for $8,000.

I packed three suitcases.

And I booked a one-way flight to New York City.

No job. No real apartment. No backup plan.

I had enough money to last three weeks.

So I had three weeks to make it work.

When I landed in New York, the city welcomed me in a way I’ll never forget. I was excited, terrified, and running entirely on adrenaline. Friends offered spare rooms and couches. People helped me find somewhere more permanent to live. And every morning, I woke up with one goal: find a job.

If my internships had taught me anything, it was that fashion in New York ran on connections. So I reached out to everyone I knew.

Old internship contacts. Former PaperCity colleagues who had lived in New York. Friends. Friends of friends. Anyone who might know someone who knew someone.

I hit the ground running.

And two weeks later, I had a job.

I had done it.

I was sharing a tiny apartment with two girls from college. I had barely any money left. My entire life fit into three suitcases.

And I had never felt more certain that I was exactly where I was supposed to be.

For the first time, I didn’t have to wonder what would have happened if I had listened to myself.

I had.

I was finally in New York.

Now I just had to figure out what came next…

Next week: The job that officially started my New York fashion career—and what happened when the dream I had been chasing for years finally became my real life.

There’s something about August that makes time speed up.

One minute it’s the start of summer, and then the reality of school starting in a month hits you and you’re trying to squeeze every last bit out of the season.

This weekend I’m heading out east to reunite with three of my closest friends, and I couldn’t be more excited. Our kids will all be together, running around barefoot, splashing in the pool, chasing each other until the sun goes down while we catch up on everything that’s happened since we were last in the same place.

These weekends are my favorites.

No elaborate plans—just good friends, happy kids, long dinners, and a little sunshine. As much as I love New York, there’s something about driving east that instantly reminds me to slow down and take a deep breath. I mean the sunsets in themselves are so calming.

Then I walked into the New York Post.

It couldn’t have been more different.

Another year had passed at the University of Texas, and summer meant one thing: I had to get back to New York. Every internship felt like another step toward the life I was trying to build. I emailed every contact I had, followed every lead I could find, and eventually one paid off.

My best friend landed an internship at Vanity Fair, so we packed our bags and found an apartment on the Upper West Side. “Apartment” might be generous—we shared a tiny room and a double bed all summer. Thankfully we’d been best friends since we were fifteen, so there wasn’t much left to embarrass us. We were two girls chasing impossible dreams in New York City, surviving on excitement more than sleep.

On my first morning at the New York Post, butterflies and all, I stepped through the double doors and immediately realized this wasn’t Condé Nast.

There was no quiet elegance. No hushed conversations.

Phones rang constantly. Editors called across the newsroom. Reporters hurried between desks with pages in hand, racing against deadlines that were happening in real time. The entire floor buzzed with an energy I’d never experienced before.

As a journalism major, I was mesmerized.

This was a real newsroom.

After meeting with the head of fashion, I was shown to the fashion closet. It was smaller than the ones I’d worked in at Vogue and Vanity Fair, but somehow it felt warmer. The racks still held beautiful designer clothing, shoes, and accessories, but the atmosphere was completely different. There were no airs, no pressure to prove you belonged. People laughed. They helped one another. It felt less like a museum and more like a creative team.

My internship was split between two worlds: editorial for the printed newspaper and fashion, working alongside Alexa, the Post’s fashion and lifestyle section. For the first time, I didn’t have to choose between journalism and fashion. I got to experience both, and it felt like everything I’d been working toward was finally coming together.

Then I met Fashion Editor Anahita Moussavian.

If Carrie Bradshaw had walked out of the television and into a newsroom, she would’ve looked like her.

She floated through the office in layers of tulle, sequins, and the kind of outfits that made you smile the moment she walked into the room. I’d never met someone who dressed so unapologetically as herself. She didn’t follow trends—she embodied personal style before I even knew that was something people could do.

She was also the first person to bring me onto an editorial photoshoot.

Looking back, I don’t think either of us knew how much that simple invitation would shape the rest of my career.

Years later, our paths crossed again. I was working at Carolina Herrera, and she was still the Fashion Editor at the New York Post. She’d come to preview collections and attend our fashion shows, and we’d always find ourselves reminiscing about that summer.

There was something magical about watching an idea become an image.

Watching racks of clothing transform into a story.

Watching editors, stylists, photographers, and beauty teams obsess over the smallest details until everything felt just right.

Every shoot reminded me that fashion wasn’t just about beautiful clothes—it was about storytelling.

I never took a single day on set for granted.

I watched. I asked questions. I steamed garments, organized accessories, carried whatever needed carrying, and quietly absorbed everything happening around me. I wasn’t just learning how editorials came together—I was learning the kind of creative career I wanted to build.

Without realizing it, the New York Post was giving me something none of my previous internships had.

Confidence.

Not because it was glamorous, but because for the first time, I wasn’t simply standing in awe of the fashion industry.

I was becoming part of it.

And before the summer was over, something happened that twenty-something me could never have imagined.

I saw my name in print for the very first time.

I still have the clipping.

At the time, getting my first byline felt like I’d made it. Looking back now, I realize it wasn’t the byline that changed me—it was finally believing I had something worth putting my name on.

I went into this week thinking it would be filled with appointments, writing, and checking things off my to-do list before August snuck up on us. Instead, it ended with an unexpected little adventure that neither my daughter nor I will forget anytime soon.

One morning I discovered that her beautiful curls had become completely matted after sleeping with wet hair (a lesson I can promise you I’ll never repeat). I thought a few products and a patient brush would do the trick, but after hours of trying, I admitted defeat and rushed her to one of my favorite little spots in the city.

The sweetest stylist spent nearly 45 minutes carefully working through every knot. It honestly felt like watching a miracle unfold. Through the whole thing she sat so patiently and bravely, and by the time we left she was all smiles—with her curls back to their bouncy little selves.

It’s funny how the weeks we imagine will be remembered for productivity are often remembered for something entirely different.

What I’m Wearing

This week reminded me that the best outfits are usually the ones you don’t have to overthink.

I’ve been reaching for pieces that could take me from morning coffee to meetings, an unexpected salon stop, and dinner without needing to change: my jean shorts that feel like butter, my go-to white tee, comfortable shoes, oversized sunglasses, blazer, and a woven bag (I also use this as my diaper bag. My color is no longer made, but there are some other great options) have been my unofficial uniform.

This Week’s Styling Note

Lately I’ve been letting my accessories do the talking. The older I get, the more I believe an outfit feels elevated when there’s a little less competing for attention.

Polka dot sheer anything has been my vibe for this summer. My go-to’s are this set (here and here) and this chic dress. Easy to dress up or down!

Beauty Favorites

This week’s curly hair saga sent me down a rabbit hole, and I’ve officially learned more about caring for curls than I ever expected.

The salon suggested this brush and this cream for my daughters hair.
Maybe I’ll do a full tutorial on this if there are any other moms who have kids with curly hair? There’s a lot more to it than these two products!

Same building, different floor and a completely different world. I wasn’t sitting at a desk working on planning a presidential event; instead, I was tucked away in the fashion closet. The first day I walked in—I was in awe. It looked exactly how you’d imagine a Condé Nast fashion closet. Endless racks of designer looks. Shelves lined with shoes. Jewelry sparkling under bright lights.

They were shooting Jennifer Lopez for the cover that month. A rack of perfectly picked looks were awaiting the photoshoot. Think gowns adorned with feathers, gold sequin dresses and fur accessories. And along the wall there were what seemed like thousands of shoes.

The top editors would rush in and out editing the looks constantly. What was perfect yesterday simply had to go today. The personality of the editors were something else. Unapologetic, fierce in personality and opinion—these were the moments that I had a clear realization that all the rumors are true.

I remember when a certain male editor (keeping his name unwritten, but if you know, you know) would come into the closet always in a mood, tossing out the looks we so carefully presented for his review. One day I was lining up the shoes and there were so many that it took me hours to unpack, inspect and perfectly place the pairs. Said editor rushed in the fashion closet and started throwing the shoes behind him without looking—this intern may have unfortunately been in the way.

My job was many things, but it was not glamourous. It was a labor of love. The other interns would sit on the ground and the head of the fashion closet would ask for a volunteer to transport a look—every time I raised my hand. My motto: keep quiet and volunteer for everything. That speaks louder than being than being the girl everyone underestimated. I ran myself ragged—taking 20 subways a day (with more garment bags than I could carry) in the blazing summer heat in New York, which was even more intense down in the stale subway air. I returned each time with a smile on my face and was ready to raise my hand again.

Every night I sat on the shower floor and cried from exhaustion. Every morning I woke up excited to do it all over again. The exhaustion was real, but so was the adrenaline I felt walking into the offices I had only dreamed of at working at. Each morning I woke up giddy for the day. Tomorrow was another chance to prove myself.

That summer taught me something I’ll never forget: the dream isn’t glamorous while you’re living it. It’s heavy garment bags, subway stairs, sore feet, and showing up again the next morning anyway. And somehow, I’d do it all over again.

Little did I know, I was only getting started…

I was supposed to spend this weekend in the Hamptons with friends, but life had other plans. Sometimes the weekend you imagined isn’t the one you end up having, and that’s okay. Not every change of plans is a disappointment.

And… the Hamptons will still be there!

It was my first day at Vogue.

So quite, so polished, so serious and everything you could imagine from films that portray the scene.

I had imagined this moment for years.

I walked past the Vogue floor marble emblem, through the double doors and sat awaiting who I would report to: Giovanna Campagna.

I remember thinking, don’t mess this up. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

It smelled faintly of cleaner.

The desks were so pristine you wouldn’t know people practically lived there.

A fashion job isn’t a career—it’s your life.

Our office sat directly outside Anna Wintour’s. The Special Events team worked closely with her, and everyone knew when she was coming.

Whispers swept across the office, “she’s on her way up!”

I remember the first time I saw her—sunglasses on (as expected!), pristine presentation in a Chanel suit—and a chill in the air that we were expected to follow suit.

I have a vivid memory where I hadn’t changed into my heels yet. A fashion assistant usually walks to work in sensible shoes before changing into heels kept under their desk. Anna walked in. We all stood up to greet her. “Hi, Anna,” everyone said in unison.

Her eyes immediately moved to the improper shoewear. I felt my body begin to shake.

She lingered for a moment before quickly ushering my boss into her office. We were in the final weeks of planning a state dinner for the sitting president, and every few hours the seating chart and RSVP list changed. I couldn’t help but wonder if my shoes had just become one more thing on my boss’s list to deal with. Safe to say, I never made that mistake again.

That was my first lesson in fashion. It wasn’t about trends or handbags. It was about standards. Every detail mattered, even the shoes you wore before anyone expected to see you.

The internship lasted just one month—the exact amount of time we had to pull the event together.

Just when I thought I’d seen the pinnacle of fashion, Vanity Fair called.

Our family has been passing around a bug, and after nearly a week of sniffles, coughs, and caring for two little girls who just want to feel better, I’ve been reminded how much comfort can come from the smallest things. A hot cup of tea, a favorite lip balm, fresh pajamas, ten quiet minutes after bedtime, or finally feeling well enough to sit outside for a bit.

Around Here

This week has looked a little slower than usual.

Instead of checking things off my to-do list (my type A personality is shaking!), it’s been making soup, keeping everyone hydrated, reading the same bedtime stories a few extra times, and reminding myself that rest is productive too. And the extra snuggles have been the best!

Thankfully we’re all starting to feel a little more like ourselves, and I’m soaking up the little moments that feel even sweeter after a hard week.

My Summer Uniform

I’ve always believed getting dressed changes the way I feel, even if I’m staying home. This week was proof. A favorite tee, cozy shorts, or an oversized button-down somehow made me feel a little more like myself.

Beauty Favorite

When I’m under the weather, I pare everything back. Lately my makeup routine has been less about doing more and more about feeling like myself again.

This week I’ve been reaching for products that make me feel more refreshed with very little effort. Think glowy skin, hydrated lips, and mascara that helps me look a little more awake than I actually feel.

I was gifted the coziest blanket in the world. Dare I say there’s no competition with how perfectly soft and slightly weighted this blanket is.

Local Favorite

This week’s local favorite is really just a little love letter to my neighborhood matcha spot. A matcha within arm’s reach makes me a very happy girl.

Whether it’s grabbing a matcha, walking through the West Village, or sitting in a favorite park, sometimes getting a little fresh air is the best medicine.

Being sick has a funny way of reminding you what actually matters.

It’s rarely the perfectly planned day that sticks with me. It’s the cup of tea someone made without asking (thanks Luke!), the extra cuddle on the couch with my sick girlies, the quiet after bedtime, or hearing little giggles return after a few hard days.

Maybe that’s the beauty of summer too—the little comforts that quietly carry us through.

For the Moms

If you’re in a season where everyone needs something from you at the exact same time, I hope this reminds you to take care of yourself too.

Drink the coffee while it’s still warm if you can. Sit outside for five minutes. Ask for help. Order takeout. Leave the laundry until tomorrow.

Your family doesn’t need a perfect week—they just need you.

It was a rainy day in 2011. Our flight home from the beach had been delayed, and we were all in that familiar vacation limbo—sunburned, tired, and reluctantly accepting that real life was waiting on the other side of the gate.

Suddenly, my mom walked over from the airline counter and said, “Come with me. There’s someone I want you to meet.”

That moment changed my life.

Her name was Victoria Will, a fashion photographer.

I was ecstatic to meet someone who worked in an industry that I had dreamed about for years.

Then she said one word.

Vogue.

At the time, I was studying journalism at the University of Texas.

My grandparents always joked they’d see me on television one day.

I believed them.

But somewhere along the way, something had started to shift.

Fashion kept pulling me in.

Victoria told me her best friend worked in Vogue’s Special Events department. I didn’t know how prestigious that was until later. She handed me a piece of paper with her email and told me to contact her.

A fire suddenly lit inside of me. It felt like someone had cracked open a door I’d spent years staring at from the outside. I no longer cared about the delayed flight. I was too busy dreaming. My brain was swirling with the possibility that this might be my entry into the fashion world at the most prestigious publishing house.

The second the plane landed I had an email draft ready to go. I hit send.

Looking back, it seems bold.

At the time, it felt like I had nothing to lose.

I’ve always been a determined, I’ll figure it out kind of girl, and for the first time, it felt like I wasn’t just dreaming about my future—I was taking the first real step toward it.

My parents had moved to NYC in 2010 and while in college that was my home. But as a child I visited with my grandmother often.

I remembered looking up at her when I was six years old and telling her,

“Nana, one day I’m going to live here.”

Back then, it was dreaming.

But, now it was a dream living in reality.

At the end of the school year, I packed up my life for a summer internship with Vogue.

As I walked into Vogue that first morning, I thought I was just starting a summer internship.

I had no idea I was beginning a career that would take me behind the scenes of some of the biggest names in fashion—and eventually lead me here, sharing this story with you.

But that’s a story for next week.

What I know now…

Looking back, that delayed flight wasn’t an inconvenience—it was the beginning of everything. Sometimes the moments that change your life don’t feel extraordinary when they’re happening; and yet, sometimes they leave a glimmer of possibility. Step through the doors that make you feel uncomfortable—that’s how you know you are where you are meant to be.

After what feels like weeks of rain here in New York City, the weather has finally turned a corner. The humidity has eased up, the mornings have been cooler, and it’s reminded me how much a little sunshine can shift your perspective.

Lately I’ve been living in easy dresses and sets, and trying to soak up every bit of summer before it slips away. I’ve rounded up everything I’ve been reaching for—from wardrobe staples to local favorites and a few little discoveries that made this week feel especially good.

I always imagine summer slowing life down, but somehow our calendar fills up even faster. Between pool days, playdates, finding little moments to recharge, squeezing in a bit of travel, and checking everything off my work list, the weeks seem to fly by.

Lately, I’ve been reminding myself that the best parts of summer usually aren’t the big vacations or perfectly planned weekends. They’re the little moments that somehow become the memories we hold onto. Winnie asking for “just five more minutes” at the pool. Rosie wearing sunglasses inside because she refuses to take them off. An iced matcha in hand every morning. Dinner outside on the rooftop while the girls run around in their princess nightgowns.

Those are the moments I’m trying to notice a little more.

NYC Find of the Week

One of my favorite parts of living in New York is discovering places that instantly become part of your routine. This week, I’m sharing a new favorite local spot—Ediths. I am always in search for the perfect sandwich and I think I’ve finally found it. Grab it to-go, head to a local park or the Hudson river for a picnic, and if you’re in the mood, bring an Aperol Spritz. If you’re local—or visiting this summer—it’s absolutely worth adding to your list.

Little Luxury

Fresh flowers.

It’s such a simple thing, but every time I bring home a bouquet, the entire house feels brighter. Sometimes the smallest rituals make the biggest difference.
