Hiiiiiii! HAPPY LAST SUNRISE RELEASE!!

Not sure if I’ll ever get used to writing something like this. 😭🤧

There’s something so surreal about watching a story that lived in my head, then on the pages of a book, now come alive on screen. The Last Sunrise has been such a journey, and now, it’s finally ours!

The Last Sunrise arrived on Prime Video this week, and I am equal parts excited, nervous, emotional, and I even watched it at home on release day. Lolol. (a few times in the background)

At its heart, The Last Sunrise is about Ry, Julián, and the people they become when they allow themselves to step outside of the lives they’ve been told they are supposed to live. It’s about love, fear, family, independence, and that terrifying but beautiful realization that sometimes you have to choose to live for yourself.

Maia Reficco brought so much to Ry. Ry is vulnerable and complicated and sometimes frustrating, but she’s also incredibly strong. She has spent so much of her life having other people make decisions for her because they are trying to protect her. Maia understood that emotional contradiction so beautifully. She captured the version of Ry who desperately wants to experience life while simultaneously being terrified of what that might mean.

And then there was Fernando Lindez.

I knew from the beginning that I wanted Fernando to play Julián. Watching him become Julián was such a rewarding experience. Fernando has this natural warmth and charm that makes Julián so easy to fall for, but he also brought so much depth to him.

And yes, Maia and Fernando have chemistry. (it’s an Anna Todd film after all lolol)

Eva Longoria in the role of Isolde, what can I even say?

Isolde is such an important character to me, and the one I relate to the most due to my son’s Tuberous Sclerosis. I trusted Eva deeply to portray that fear, love, loyalty, and fierceness that it takes to be a special needs parent. She’s a mother who loves her daughter fiercely, but that love is tangled up in fear. She wants to protect Ry, while Ry desperately wants the freedom to make her own choices. Isolde carries her own secrets, her own guilt, and a lot of love.

I feel incredibly privileged that we got Carlson Young as our director. There are so many things I could say about the process of bringing The Last Sunrise to life, but one of the most important things to me was having someone behind the camera who understood that this story couldn’t just be about making Mallorca look beautiful.

After working with her, I literally told my team that I need her to direct all my projects haha. I love her badddd.

Carlson and I just clicked. She got it from day one. No egos, no drama, just a clear minded, brilliant director with a vision.

The movie needed to have a heart.

It needed to understand Ry.

It needed to understand Julián.

It needed to understand Isolde and Mateo.

It needed to understand the complicated relationship between Ry and Isolde.

It needed to inspire and represent individuals with chronic illnesses.

It needed to understand me.

Most of all, it needed to understand that beneath the romance and the beautiful locations, this is a story about what it means to actually live.

Carlson understood all of that.

She brought so much thoughtfulness and care to the project, and she had such a clear understanding of the emotional core of the story. She also embraced the beauty of Mallorca in a way that makes the movie feel like the summer escape I always imagined.

Yes, The Last Sunrise is a romance.

But it has always been about so much more than falling in love.

It’s about figuring out who you are when you aren’t living according to someone else’s expectations.

It’s about the people who love us and the ways that love can sometimes become complicated.

And it’s about asking yourself a very simple but very difficult question:

What does it mean to actually live?

I hope your summer has been going well so far. It’s been a rollercoaster for me, the good, the hard, the exciting, all the things.

One major thing I’ve been looking forward to is the trailer release for The Last Sunrise, an Amazon Prime adaptation based on my novel. I was heavily involved in this film as a producer, and can say I fully, fully, fullllyyy, adore this film and am so thrilled for the trailer to give you a glimpse of what’s in store for the actual film!

If you’ve followed my journey since After, you know how much those characters mean to me — they’ll always have a piece of my heart. But there is always something different when creating new worlds and new characters. Since this story (especially Ry having the same medical condition that my son, Asher, has) made it so personal. Watching Ry and Juliàn come alive on screen(and on set) has truly been one of the most refreshing creative experiences of my career so far.

Maia and Fernando bringing Ry and Julián to life (and caring so much while doing so) has been beyond anything I could have ever imagined, but the two are perfect.

I also still can’t believe that THE Eva Longoria is in our film!? She has been such a dream to work with.

I’m counting down the days until August 26th so you can see the full film and understand why I’m so obsessed with it haha.

Maia Reficco playing Ry - I don’t think I could have dreamed up a better person for the role. Teen Vogue debuted stills and the trailer, and I love how she described playing Ry, saying, “One of my favorite parts of playing her was finding that little ray of hope within all of that hopelessness and becoming a guiding light for her along the way.” That’s exactly it. That’s exactly what I wanted Ry’s journey to feel like when I wrote her.

And Fernando Lindez as Julián — the chemistry between him and Maia is something you just can’t fake. The two were magnetic.

Not to mention that we were lucky enough to shoot in Majorca. I spent two weeks there, seeing the island, watching filming, and making some core memories with the director, producers, cast and crew. It truly was the dream team!

Over the next few weeks, you guys will get to see a lot from the set. Ry’s story was deeply personal to write. The way that all of these actors brought the story to life reminded me why I wanted to tell this story in the first place, This isn’t just another summer romance — it’s about finding your light when you feel like you have none left, and I think Maia and Fernando captured that in a way that only they could.

Hiiiii!

Happy long weekend. I’ll be staying in and writing between snuggles with Ash. I have a deadline upcoming so it’s me and my laptop, ten iced lattes, and whatever yummy food my husband makes us- against the world lol. I’m hoping by Saturday morning, I’ll be at a place to take a break so we can go to the farmer’s market. I’d also loveeee if the sun would come out! Like literally begging for sun right now lol.

Last weekend was Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest, which was sooo much fun.I was so glad it took place in LA, so I didn’t have to worry about suitcases or flights :) It blows my mind that it was a week ago, because I feel like I haven’t sat down since (not including pilates haha) Seeing Maia and Fernando, and Carlson (our director) again was like reuniting with family.

I talked to outlets from all around the world including The Hollywood Reporter, Brit + Co, Sweety High, DCfilmgirl.com, Cosmo (Spain), Cinemania (Spain), Vinyl Media (Australia), Mery Turiel (Spain), Yahoo! (Canada), La Nacion (Argentina), Capricho (Brazil), Fennec and Friends (New Zealand), AliLibri (Mexico) and more. It was so much fun to talk to people all around the world about The Last Sunrise. I definitely was making a list of all the places I want to go back to ASAP.

Maia, Fernando and I had a press and content day on Thursday before Obsessed Fest. Stay tuned for our laughs, and retakes, and just genuine fun. Oh, and their chemistry of course 😏

I spent Friday writing and doing family stuff, knowing I had to keep my energy up for the festival day. I’m one of those people that needs to prepare for hours of socializing, even if I’m excited and looking forward to it.

Saturday was the mossttt fun. There were romance book to screen girlies everywhere! Props from shows, fun merch, actors I’ve been wanting to meet and finally could. It was a fangirl heaven tbh.

It was also double fun because I was finally able to talk about The Last Sunrise and release some (insanely beautiful) first look photos, and showing the MOVIE TIE IN COVER!!

It’s so stunning and I’m fully obsessed with it. It’s available for pre-order now, hint hint :P

I was on the Page to Screen panel alongside Mercedes Ron and Casey Mcquiston. We chatted about adapting our works and the ups and downs. How to manage reader’s expectations, all that fun stuff. It was so cool to be on a panel with two authors I adore so much. And meeting Mercedes after all these years of being online friends, was so nice.

Also! We were finally able to announce the release date for The Last Sunrise - August 26th.

Next was this cute little book cafe (they literally built a stage to be a working cafe) and it was so chic! Then they had me doing something I neverrrr do hah. They asked me to read passages from The Last Sunrise. Suddenly I was back in sixth grade counting the paragraph to student ratio to know which would be mine and reading it ten times before it was my turn. Fortunately that only lasted a few minutes and then I got to have a signing- which as you know is one of my favorite parts of my career.

Double also, I truly don’t understand how it’s already July??!!

Hi!! It’s been a minute. I swear it was just New Year’s Eve and suddenly it’s the end of March and my birthday was Friday!! ❤️🍒🎂

Life lately has been a lot—I’ll share more later, but the good, bad and in between that happens to all of us. Life has been life-ing lately.

I’m doing what I can to be the best mother, writer, wife, producer, friend that I can be. Just trying to be present and appreciate what’s right in front of me. Asher has been up and down mood wise. Hormones, man. But we’re taking day by day. I would be lying if i said i wasn’t extremely exhausted rn though.

Have you seen those adorable “teddy bear” goldendoodle 🐶haircuts? Jinwook and I took Winnie to a place that claimed they specialized in that look… and yeah, no. They absolutely did not. Poor Winnie is basically hairless right now 😭 We immediately had to buy her a shirt and harness because we cannot send her out into the world like that. She was depressed for three days 😢.

Thankfully, she’s been living her best life otherwise—family hikes every weekend. We go Saturday and Sunday, and she’s obsessed. Asher’s into it too, especially the early morning hikes. We’ll get to the top and he’ll say he can see all of Los Angeles, and he fully means it. It’s the cutest thing. He’s still obsessed with clouds and the sky, so it’s good motivation to get him to get all the way to the top 😂

For my birthday, I wanted to do something fun and a little nostalgic, so I planned a craft day with friends—think no phones, no drama, crafts, and just hanging out. Very reclaiming-my-youth energy. And yes, there will be Pilates (because obviously). I also spent my actual birthday on Friday just roaming around the mall with two of my friends. That was my thinggg when i was a teen and honestly, it was so freaking fun lol.

I ordered my cake from the cutest spot and I cannot wait… although let’s be real, birthday cake is basically for Asher and Instagram at this point 😂

Behind the scenes, I’ve been working on a lot lately. I’m deep in deadline mode for my next book, and we just finalized the ending for The Last Sunrise film… more on that as soon as I’m allowed to say literally anything 😅 But i can say secured some INCREDIBLE music yayyy!

Also—plot twist—I’ve taken up running. The jury is still very much out on whether this is a long-term thing, but for now, we run. Mostly because Winnie drags me, so as long as she keeps pulling, I’ll keep going. The second she stops? Yeah… I’m blaming her if I quit.

I’m heading to Budapest next month (!!) and I cannot wait. It’ll be my first time, and my publisher has some fun things planned. Jinwook and I are also sneaking in a few days for a little “honeymoon” moment, which I’m really looking forward to. If you have any coffee shop recs for Budapest or Barcelona, send them my way ☕️

I’m going to try (like really try, not just saying it) to be better about sending these more often. In the meantime—what are you all up to? Tell me everything.

I can’t believe Regretting You will be in theatres in less than a month! In case you missed it, my production company, Frayed Pages, bought the rights to the novel, written by Colleen Hoover, back in 2019. Then COVID happened, then the writers strikes happened. But after nearly six years, it’s a real, living breathing film and I’m so proud of it! It was the first film that I produced that wasn’t based on my own work and the process, though it was long, and not always easy, taught me so much and made my passion for filmmaking grow every day.

This past weekend, I went to Dallas to host the first public screening of the movie alongside Colleen Hoover, as well as my fellow producers, Brunson Green and Flavia Viotti. It was a night full of emotions and celebrations. Even though I’ve seen the film a ton of times now, I loved watching it with an audience full of fans of the book. Their reactions, the laughs, the sobs, were so rewarding as a producer. Thank you AMC for having us! Xo

On Sunday we had another screening, this time in LA. The whole weekend was spent celebrating this film, cast, and crew. McKenna Grace (our Clara) came and did the cutest intro for the audience.

The one and only Andrés Velencoso has joined our cast as Mateo — aka Julian’s dad, Isolde’s ex, and quite possibly the most grounded man in all of Mallorca. We saw a lot of Mateos and Julians… but when we saw Andrés and Fernando together, it was like ✨yes to him, it works, he is the Padre✨. That’s our duo.

Andrés is basically a Spanish icon — model, actor, fluent in FIVE languages (Spanish, Catalan, French, Italian, English — no big deal 🙄, genius level stuff here), and yes, he once modeled with Jennifer Lopez for Louis Vuitton. 2003. A moment in fashion history. And if you’re wondering whether he can handle life on a fishing boat — go watch his Chanel Allure Homme Sport ad and get back to me.

Mateo is a loving father, a man of the sea, quietly broken-hearted over the love he lost (hi, Isolde), and deeply protective of his island’s soul. He’s navigating change, tradition, and the slow burn of reconnection. He’s a devoted father and his business is everything to him. Tradition matters. Andrés is Mateo. We have our Julián!! I can finally share who’s playing Julian and OMG — he’s perfect for the role. 🩵

Fernando Lindez is our Julián!

We went through SO many auditions from so many incredible actors but honestly, since the very first round, he was it for me. His charisma and vibe were exactly what I had imagined while writing this character and I’m thrilled for ya’ll to see him bring Julián to life!

We did chemistry reads with Maia (obviously) and it was insane. Chemistry is the most important part of casting the leads for me, on any project, and theirs was WILD. We did two rounds with a few different actors and Maia, one on Zoom and then another round in person to make sure the chemistry was 10000% there and mannn is it 🥵

Writing Julián was such an emotional ride for me. I connected to his character so much, and did my best to make him as authentic as possible. So, from the very beginning I knew that when we cast him, the actor had to be Spanish and had to be emotionally in tune with the character and his struggles.

Julián is one of my absolute favorite characters I’ve ever written — not because he’s perfect, but because he’s not. Perfection is not my thing, but authentic and flawed is. Julián is broody and beautiful, yes, but he’s also complicated and deeply human. The only real connection he’s ever made outside his family is to the island of Mallorca — his home. He’s proud of where he comes from, of his work, and especially of his father. He sees no need for attachment.

But along comes Ry.

And once Ry and Julián's walls come down? Their love just takes over.

Ry and Julián stole my heart. Writing them felt natural because I knew they deserved something different — something better.

What does happily ever look like? Well… you'll have to wait and see.

JULIAN AND RY TAKE TO THE WATER

“I wish I would have worn a swimsuit. I’m dying to swim.” I sigh, debating just how annoying it would be to wear heavy, soaked jeans and top on the bike back to my hotel

Then again, this is Europe, and there’s not a soul here on the beach to see me. Except Julián, who’s clearly used to going to nude beaches and has seen many, many, many women naked. I won’t be fully nude anyway, just in a shirt and panties. Of course, I wore the most boring panties I own, and I’m not wearing a bra for once. I have the urge to slap myself at the thought of caring what he thinks about my panties.

I shimmy out of my jeans, watching him like a hawk for a reaction, but there isn’t one. Not even a glance my way after he realizes what I’m doing. I toss my pants next to Julián’s shirt and my purse and try to untie the laces that Amara tied around my waist. The knot is too tight, and my nails are too short to get it to budge. Leaving it, I go back to the edge of the water and slip in. Julián’s about ten feet further out than me, the moonlight shining off his bare shoulders and broad back. I walk out toward him, surprised how shallow the water is as I walk.

“Does it feel like a dream to live here?” I ask, breaking the silence between us.

“No. But if I were only here for a holiday, it likely would.”

Okay, so we’re back to being combative . . .

He seems to notice my defensiveness.

“Not talking about you,” he explains. “Just in general. Our island is suffering from the tourists, but on the other hand it’s surviving because of them. It’s a double-edged sword. Most of our working class can barely afford to keep their homes due to the land value increasing. The pollution, the cultural shift, it’s not very dreamlike.”

“I’m sorry. Not for asking, but for what’s happening. I guess when your livelihood depends on an industry that’s harming it, it’s not all sunny days, warm water, and yummy food.”

Maia Reficco as Ry has been a dream and she embodied Oriah perfectly and as we searched for Isolde, one person kept popping into my head, but I wasn’t sure if it was realistic haha.

Isolde is such an important character to me and I found myself relating to her so much more than expected. She's headstrong, misunderstood, loves her daughter with her entire being, is still in love with a man from her past, and she’s doing her best to navigate her daughter's chronic illness.

Isolde is complex and complicated and we really needed an actor who would be able to portray such a variety of emotions. But who is she?

In case the gif didn’t give it away, it’s EVA LONGORIA. This powerhouse, this household name - this icon - has signed on to play Isolde!

She's Gabrielle Solis from Desperate Housewives. She starred as herself in Only Murders In The Building (and that’s icon status). She is Val in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip. Her new movie, The Pickup just premiered on Prime Video.

She’s booked and busy, but she’s spending part of the summer making our movie in Mallorca!

She has two television shows this year - Searching For Spain (which will definitely make you want to go to Spain) on CNN and most recently Necaxa.

Not to forget - she’s an activist, philanthropist, director, wife, and a mother. Eva is inspo.

RY ON HER MOM IN THE LAST SUNRISE

We quietly exist in each other’s worlds but aren’t quite connected. A hopeful bubble floats across my chest that being in the town she was born in will change that.

“Did you take your medicine?” Her voice is a bit more tired than usual, from working the entire flight. She’s always on a call, a Zoom, or making voice memos, I’ve learned to completely drown her voice out 99 percent of the time.

I nod, gulping down the slight guilt. Her eyes move to the flight attendant, and she nods, joining me in my deceit. I smile at her.

“Did you even sleep at all?” I ask my mom.

She presses the lid of her lipstick back on the tube and makes a popping sound with her lips. “I’ll sleep tonight after our meetings. I didn’t want to mess up my cycle.”

What cycle? She never sleeps, I know that for a fact. I roll my eyes and look directly at her so she knows I’m not buying it. She’s completely unbothered and moves to putting mascara on her long lashes. She drags the wand up and down, dotting the corners with the jet-black liquid. I put in my contacts methodically, wanting to avoid the constant comments about my eyes, even across the globe.

I am so happy to be producing The Last Sunrise for Frayed Pages. I’ll be heading to Mallorca soon, so stay tuned for SO much more fun!

I’ve been in my own head a bit when it comes to this book because it’s been such a personal journey in so many ways and I knew that I loved the characters, the story, the setting, so much, but that doesn’t always mean that the readers will feel the same way. But I broke my own rule (I NEVER read reviews lol) and I’ve been reading some this past week and I’m blown away. I love hearing your thoughts and your connection to Ry and Julián, and so many of you have vocalized how much you love their messy, flawed, love.

There were so many things I had to keep quiet about while writing The Last Sunrise, and now that it’s out in the world, I can finally shout it from the rooftops! The film is set to start shooting this summer (!!) and yes—our Ry has been cast.

✨Maia Reficco is playing Oriah—and I am obsessed.✨

She was our first choice and we’re actively building the rest of the cast around her because she is Ry. No notes. 10/10 perfection.

Maia even flew in from NYC for less than 12 hours just to attend the signing at The Ripped Bodice and have the chance to connect with readers in person. She is the sweetest human—and the moment I brought her on stage was SO special (and slightly chaotic because we were both trying so hard not to spoil things and this novel is a landmine of spoilers lol). 😅

Now… about Julián. We haven’t cast him yet and I need your dream casting suggestions. Drop your picks in the comments on the post announcing Maia—I’m reading all of them! (only Spanish actors please, no fake accents etc.)

After the LA stop, I made my way to Phoenixville, PA (first time there!) and omg—it’s adorable. Total small-town charm. Huge thanks to everyone who came out, and to Cali Melle for moderating such a thoughtful and fun convo.

Last stop on tour: Decatur, Georgia. Atlanta always hits—especially when it comes to food and coffee. Truly elite. I may or may not have made a beeline to this amazing Chinese spot before and after the signing. No regrets. 😂

Honestly, give me Pilates, great coffee, and good food and I’m functioning at peak happiness.

How is it March of 2025 already? January was nine years long, but February was two days long. Make it make sense. Backtracking to January, thank you to everyone who checked on us during the fires here in Los Angeles. It was the first time we’ve had to evacuate our home and seeing the fire approaching our house, ashes covering the air, trying to explain to Asher what was going on… it really took a toll on my mental health. Not to mention, watching people I care about lose everything. So thank you for making me feel less alone.

I couldn’t write for weeks if I’m being honest, so I’m late on my deadline right now, but trekking through. I write for an outlet from reality, but sometimes reality is too hard to escape and the devastation here in LA was one of those times.

Okay, so now to try to lighten it up. IT’S MY BIRTHDAY MONTH! I am such a birthday person. I love, love, love my birthday (and anyone’s birthday tbh) and I fully embrace the idea of an entire month of being excited to be alive and thriving. I’ll be 36 this month and couldn’t be more excited. Each year of my life has gotten better and better and I’m so, so incredibly privileged and grateful to be able to say that. I feel like my life has just begun, and since I’m not even 40 yet, this is so true!

For my birthday, I’m having a Pilates themed party - shocker I know! Haha. But I can’t wait to show you guys because I even made little gift bags for my friends coming and I’m so excited.

Speaking of Pilates, for Valentine’s day this year, I threw a Galentine’s Party with my friends from Pilates at my house. I am so, so selective of who I allow to come into my home, (in a slightly obsessive way) but I embraced hosting, and it was so much more fun than I expected. I thought I would be way more anxious, and it was the opposite. It also helped that they helped clean up before they left haha.

But genuinely, the point of sharing this with you is that I think we can all relate to adult friendships being so hard and this past year I’ve really come out of my shell and allowed my friendships to bloom. I remember thinking at the beginning of my fitness journey “please no one talk to me” and now I’ve realized I was doing myself such a disservice by not allowing myself to get to know these incredible women. If I’m being honest, it was also my own insecurity because I had an idea in my head of what “LA Pilates girls” were and mannnn was I wrong.

Anyway, our party was so freaking fun, and we had heart shaped pizza and went all out with the décor. I still have the bows on my door and the Valentine’s decorations on my Christmas tree (still haven’t taken it down and it’s about to transition to a Birthday tree :)

WORK LIFE:

REGRETTING YOU (FILM RELEASING OCT 2025)

It’s not secret that I’ve transitioned to full-time producing films and even though I can’t talk about it much, there is sooo many coming! On RY for example, we begin filming this month! There have been a lot of meetings, pre-production, and finalizing things. We’re working hard on finishing up any last-minute changes to the script and making it really tight. (meaning making sure the film isn’t too long) I am really excited about this! Josh Boone (our director) is going to make an amazing movie, along with an insanely talented cast and our team at Paramount.

We have our table read next week!! I’m going to travel to set in April (most of the crew and cast are either there or will be next week) but with my other work obligations and my son, Asher, it’s not reasonable for me to be away from home for months right now. Plus, I specialize in development, which means script, story forming, casting, choosing director, all the things pre-production and my actual favorite part of filmmaking aside from casting and script development is the edit! Movies truly come together in the editing room and I really, really love that stage. I’ll share what I can, when I can, but look forward to a story that the fans of the book (and non) will fall for.

SHIVER (FILMING FINISHED, RELEASE DATE TBA)

I know you guys get tired of me telling you I am working on something and not being able to tell you more so I will keep this one short. I am working hard on this unannounced project that I’ve been going back and forth on for a while. Though I can’t say much, I will tell you that it’s something ya’ll ask for DAILY.

On top of that, I have my next book in my head, somewhat written out (but I’m not a plotter hahaha) but I am literally itching to write it as soon as I turn in the book I’m late on. *cries* I’m a little of a perfectionist on my work-life so being late makes me feel so icky, but I’m trying to remember that that’s just life and since books live forever and we don’t, I can’t just rush through it for the sake of rushing.

FAMILY TIME

Something I’m really trying to work on is being fully present for him. Every night we do something as a family - whether it be playing a game or going for a walk or even just watching Blaze (IYKYK). Asher has been in a Gummibar phase again for the first time since he was about four and it’s driving me bananas, but here we are lol.

A little update on Asher’s health and school stuff:

He’s doing pretty well in school. The socializing has been helping, but honestly, I don’t feel like he’s learning much outside of that. I’m terrified of what High School will look like for him next year, and I really hope to get him into a specialized school.

Health wise, he’s been having a lot of seizures again, so we are trialing a new medicine for him. I really hope it works; it’s terrifying to watch him have them so often again.

His kidneys have also become a little bit of an issue. He has tubers and cysts on them that are growing pretty rapidly, but fortunately I have an extra one :P All dark humor aside, being a special needs momma is nottt for the weak.

His personality is coming out so much lately and he’s sooo freaking funny, tbh. He’s beginning to understand jokes and give them back and it’s everything haha. The self-harm has decreased as well, and his obsession with clouds persists lol. He’s also bigger than me in every way and I don’t know when or how that happened, but he thinks it’s hilarious to try and sit on my lap and squish me :P

THINGS I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS YEAR (AKA MOSTLY KDRAMAS AND BTS)

First things first, most of the members of BTS will finally be out of the military this year!! And I got tickets to see Hobi in April!!!! If you’re Army, you know what this means to me. I’ll make sure to take tons of videos and pics for those of you who can’t attend his tour.

When I mentally struggle to get something done, I usually incentivize myself with a reward. The moment I turn this novel in, I will be watching Mellow Movie. Choi Wooshik and Park Boyoung together feels like it was made for me.

Did anyone watch Lee Minho’s new show, When the Stars Gossip? I love him and will always support him, but that drama wasn’t what I expected, honestly. Either way, he’s an incredible actor and I’m waiting impatiently for his next series and Pachinko Season 3 to begin filming.

My Dearest Nemesis, Can This Love Be Translated, Two Women, and Genie, Make a Wish are just some of the ones I am looking forward to this year. Genie, Make a Wish especially because Kim Woobin and Suzy have insane chemistry and I’ll be counting down the days, literally.

This year is the busiest year of my life, but I’m ready! (sort of haha)

9. Travel – sooo much travel. I’ll be bringing Asher along a few times and I’m nervous but excited. I’ll share tour and travel dates with you ASAP.

10. Trick-or-Treating - It’s been a few years since I’ve been able to take Asher because of travel and this year I’m making sure I can!

I can’t believe the Holidays are already here and nearly over at this point! This year, I am excited to stay home for a quiet and calm holiday. This past weekend we did our usual Sunday reset, put up our tree, lights, and restocked groceries etc. It always makes me feel productive to have the house completely “reset” Sunday, even though I know it won’t last long lol. I’m still not finished with gifting, especially Asher, if you’re a special needs parent, you will probably understand this, but it’s so hard to get him stuff because he doesn’t functionally play yet, so he wants more trains (he has nearly every edition of Thomas and ALL his friends 😂) He did ask “to be able to fly” but since I can’t give him wings, I’m not sure what to get him lol. He still believes in Santa which makes my momma heart happy.

His winter break from school is so long, which he loves, but I’ve reached the age where I’m thinking “back in my day we got a week max!” haha. We’re going to see lights tomorrow, and as I’m typing this I realized we haven’t gotten the yearly picture with Santa (mom fail) so I’m going to try to figure out how to do that with one day left. Eek.

Frayed Pages is closed for the holidays, but I have a few manuscript submissions to read, a draft to give notes on, another novel to read for adaptation consideration, and my own book due at the end of next month. Anyone know how to clone a human yet?

Looking back at 2024, I can’t believe how much has happened with the company. My teenage self would be absolutely dying that I have an imprint and produce films, like what is life?? In case you missed it, Frayed Pages is producing the adaptation of Regretting You by Colleen Hoover, with an INCREDIBLE cast and director. We film in March!

I’m also producing Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater, which has already finished filming! This book and the entire Mercy Falls series has such a special place in my heart. I used to save my tip money to buy the books as they were released, and am a huge fan of Maggie and every single book she’s written. To say I’m excited is an understatement. I have a couple more film news to announce, but for now, I have to keep it quiet 😅

On the imprint and publishing side, we had AN EPIC year!! Frayed Pages x Wattpad Books published Meant For Me from Tay Marley, Unleashing Chaos from Crystal & Felicity, and Sand, Sequins, & Silicone from Pia Mia. All of these authors are incredible and I’m honored to have them in our FP family. In 2025, we’ll add some new authors and novels, starting with Loving Ben Cooper by CC Monroe (out 3/25/25), then Situationship by E.M. Wilson (out 4/29/25), and ending with Diamonds, Deception & Destiny by Pia Mia (out 6/24/25).

In the midst of the busy year ahead, I have a new standalone romance, The Last Sunrise, releasing on May 6, 2025.

Okay, okay enough business, let’s chat ins and outs. I loved doing this last year and I surprised myself by sticking to all of the things I wanted to “leave” in 2023, and have made a list of them again.

So what will I be leaving behind in 2024? (outs)

1. Second guessing my gut instinct.

2. Being on my phone too much.

3. Worrying about things I can’t control.

4. Unhealthy Comparisons.

5. Over Scheduling myself.

6. Saying yes when I want to say no.

7. Being too passive when I shouldn’t be.

8. Being bothered by strangers' not so nice comments about my weight loss when they don’t understand how hard I’ve worked.

9. Letting people take advantage of me, work-wise and personally.

10. Mom guilt over working so much.

So what am I bringing into 2025? (ins)

1. Taking time to respond to my texts better lol. Not saying the same day, but not ignoring them until I feel guilty, then take even longer to respond.

2. Continuing to focus on building up other women in the industry through storytelling.

3. Boundaries, always.

4. Staying grounded in a chaotic city and industry.

5. Continuing to focus on my health and taking care of my body and mind.

6. Focusing on what I can do in my community to make it a better place in real life, instead of doom scrolling and arguing with people who have different opinions than me on the internet.

7. Continuing to grow my perfume collection.

8. Pilates, pilates and more pilates.

9. Keeping my natural nails, it’s been almost two years since I’ve gotten them done and they’re finally strong!

10. Telling women how great they are or look every single time I have the thought. Just vocally complimenting women more instead of being shy about it.

Before we know it, probably before you even get around to reading this, 2025 will be here. I hope you go into the new year with optimism, hope, joy, and peace.

I know my newsletters are sporadic and random, but I usually have to stop myself from just writing a diary entry here lol. How many newsletters/emails would you ideally like to see from me? (be honest 😛) 

I’m trying my best to enjoy the last few weeks of 2024, as I watch the calendar for 2025 fill up already. EEk. I’m so so thrilled and ready for next year, but time needs to slow down a bit, or I need a clone lol. 

I had the most incredible trip this month. I started in Paris, then went to Lyon, France for the New Romance Festival. Hugging and crying with readers is always such a special experience. Then, I went back to Paris before heading to Italy. I started in Venice, which was genuinely so relaxing and the reset I needed. Then I went to Rome and Rome is… well, ROME! 

It was even more beautiful than I remembered and it was so nice to have free time to just roam around and not have a tight schedule. I need to do that more often. I had the best food, sore feet, and a happy heart. The trip went way too quickly, but I did come up with my next book idea there 😗  and was able to meet up with a few readers who have become dear friends. It was much needed for my soul. I do wish my son, Asher, could travel with me more, but hopefully as he becomes more emotionally regulated, he will be able to. Cross your fingers for us please. He’s also had an uptick in his seizures lately, which is also terrifying, but we’re taking it day by day, scan by scan. 

In work news, I turned in my next round of edits for The Last Sunrise. I’m so excited for you guys to read this one (pre-order your copy here). I know that a lot of you have asked if it will be available in your country and I’ll have more information on more countries soon! But the answer is mostly yes! The release date is May 6th, 2025. 

I just got a look at the printed cover and I’m in in loveeee 💛 I go through phases during these steps in publishing where I’m excited, then terrified, then thrilled, then hard on myself, then want to burn the whole thing, then back to excited again… fun haha. But seriously, I’m really proud of this novel and am absolutely in love with Julián and Oriah. I love a good enemies to lovers, banter-filled, sexy, dramafest (as you already know haha).

5 Of My Favorite Things To Do On Vacation: 

• Find as many aesthetic coffee shops and literally plan my entire day around trying at least 2 per day (you should see the list I made for this trip, it took me HOURS)

• Try as many restaurants as I can fit in (though I always end up canceling plans and going back to one that I intended to eat at once) 

• Walk, walk, walk (everything is “right down the road” then suddenly we’ve been walking eight hours that day) 

• Buying local, handmade items, especially art and sometimes a good handbag lol.

• Stay in my hotel room and order room service because I want a bath without my son calling my name every two minutes and inevitably ending up sitting in the bathroom asking me when I’ll be done 😂 iykyk

October… OCTOBER? How on earth is it October? 

Where has this year gone? 

It’s been pretty busy lately, but when isn’t it? In the midst of all the things I’m cooking up for you, I wanted to take a quick break to catch up. I’m so bad at newsletters but love them as a reader, so sorry for being so random with them 😂

Last week, I went to New York City to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of After last week and had the absolute best time. Seeing some of you, my friends, sharing our stories and celebrating together was so good for the soul. I’ve been so nostalgic lately and reflecting on how much my life, your lives, and my son’s life have changed since I wrote that first chapter on Wattpad 🥲 We’ve truly been through so much together and it means the world to me. 

I still remember the first time I went into Barnes & Noble and held the published copy of After and a decade later, I have to admit, it still feels so damn cool and exciting. Sometimes I still can’t believe I get to write stories and connect with people for a living. Thank you for being the reason for that.

At the 10th anniversary party, we drank, we made friendship bracelets, we bonded, and I was so excited to announce my next book, The Last Sunrise. I can’t say much about it just yet, but it will be released in May of next year. It’s a romance, obviously, and tells the story of a young girl whose life transforms after a summer in Majorca, with the help of a mysterious local. Swoooonnnn.

I am working on copy edits for it now, and am just so in love with these characters. I’ll share their names with you soon 😉 I’ve also sold the film rights already (literally in 2021ish before I had written the book) and will be producing it with an incredible team and studio. I’ll share more when I can, but the script is finished and I’m so excited! 

On top of all the exciting things in my book world, I’ve been optioning incredible books that I love and I’m pinching myself because after four years of hard work Regretting You (the novel by Colleen Hoover) was announced! I’ve massively stepped into producing and I can’t wait to start filming next year. We have such an amazing cast - Allison Williams as Morgan, Mckenna Grace as Clara, Dave Franco as Jonah and Mason Thames as Miller. Working with the director, Josh Boone who directed The Fault in Our Stars, has been a dream. We begin filming in March, and I’ll keep you updated on that too, of course! 

I’m heading to Paris at the end of the month for the New Romance Festival and hope to see some of you there! I’ll also be spending some time in Italy right after, so if you have any suggestions for hotels in Rome or Venice please let me know. I still haven’t made up my mind where to stay 😜 

ALSO - restaurant recommendations needed and coffeeeeee, all the coffee and yummy food for my foodie heart. (bonus points for iced oat latte locations pls)

I hope you love the ending of Karina and Kael’s love story.. It’s bittersweet that it’s over (in novel form 😉) but I’m thankful and excited for my current manuscript which has kept me distracted. 👀

P.S. Some of my favorite ways to relieve stress in case (like me) you need some tips: 

• A good workout (a pilates pic a day keeps the stress away) 

• Iced latte (with an extra shot of espresso and pistachio or oat milk and my favorite pink straws) 

• A trip to the farmers market (obsessed with the freshness of everything) 

• Making a playlist and coming up with a complicated but relatable name for it 

• Texting with friends (texting >>> calls- if you know me, you know not to call lol)

In June, I attended the last Book Bonanza. It was so bittersweet, I’ve been at every BB since the beginning and will miss it so much, but it ended with a bang! I mean, Blake Lively was there! How epic. 

We also had two of our Frayed Pages x Wattpad Books authors Crystal & Felicity there to celebrate their new release, Unleashing Chaos. (if you love romantasy, anxiety rep, steam, and drama- read this book ASAP!)

I always love meeting ya’ll and I’ve loved seeing all the photos and videos from the event. Please keep tagging me in them. Here’s some of mine: 

Right before I left for BB, I received my first copy of the upcoming After 10th Anniversary Edition, and I am in AWE. I brought it with me to BB and so many of you swooned at how pretty the sprayed edges are! (and how long the bonus content is, ;) Reminder: It releases Oct. 1st and the first edition will come with the edges, so pre-order while you can!

Last week, I flew out to New York and had a Carrie Bradshaw moment (iykyk), and got to help ring the Nasdaq bell with Webtoon! It was truly a once in a lifetime experience that all began by typing that very first chapter on Wattpad. We even had a signing in the middle of Times Square, thank you everyone who came! 

Last but not least- The Infinite Light of Dust comes out at the end of the month!! This series has been a major labor of love and lots of tears. To celebrate, I’ll be signing in Chicago with my dear friend and one of my favorite authors, Brittainy Cherry. We’ll be at The Last Chapter Bookshop  on July 26th. I can’t believe we’ve been on this journey for a decade. Writing the bonus content came so naturally, and being in Hardin and Tessa’s mind again was like coming home. There have been so many questions about the release, so I wanted to answer a few here. 

Will this cover be available in my country?

This exact special edition with the sprayed edges is the US edition, from Gallery Books. It’s only available in the USA wherever books are sold. BUT that doesn’t mean my other international publishers won’t release it as well, we just don’t have the info yet :) 

How can I guarantee to get the sprayed edges?

Pre-ordering is the most certain way, but they will be in stores also. So I would recommend getting it the week of release to be certain!

I can't believe April is nearly over. Anyone else wondering where this year has gone? life has been a little chaotic, but I tend to thrive in chaos :P 

I wanted to check in and give you a little recap of life lately. I don’t want to bore you or blow up your inbox, so I’ll try to keep it short and sweet. 

This past weekend, I signed at the Steamy Lit Booth at the LA Times Festival of Books alongside Julie Tieu and Tia Williams. It was my second year at the festival and it always blows me away how much there is to do there, and how many bookstores, authors, panels, all the things go on! I’m also happy to report that there are more and more romance bookstores present and that makes my heart happy. there's truly nothing better than being around fellow book people and books. 

Also, for all the Kindle readers, I am so excited that *finally* the entire After Series is available on Kindle Unlimited in the US (you can add it here). 

I’ve been working on planning travel for this year and next. It’s getting a little more complicated now that my son’s getting older, but I want to make sure I make time for ya’ll and your hugs. With The Infinite Light of Dust and the 10th Anniversary of After both releasing this year, where should I go?

Speaking of The Infinite Light of Dust, just a reminder if you are a reviewer you can request it now on Netgalley and Edelweiss. I wanted to find yet another way to connect with you and keep you up to date on what I’m up to and working on, and I know that not all of you are on Instagram or TikTok, so I thought email would be a simple way to reach out. I know sometimes emails feel like spam and salesy- so I will do my absolute best to not make it feel that way! 

A few things that have been going on on the book side that I’m excited about, the third book in the Brightest Stars trilogy is releasing the last week of July! It’s been such a personal labor of love, so I’m excited that the trilogy will be completed, though it’s a little bittersweet. Here’s where you can find the three book series.

Something else that I’m sure you’re even MORE excited about, is that this fall, it will be the TEN year anniversary of After being published *cries* 

Time has seriously flown by and sometimes it’s hard to remember my life before Tess and Hardin, and before all of you made my dreams come true. 

There are so many beautiful special editions of beloved books (I keep buying all my faves as they release haha) and I wanted to make one for us to celebrate a decade of this love story that’s become such a big part of our lives together. 

Of course, I wanted to give you something extra special, like a new cover and bonus content, LOTS of bonus content. I hope you love spending time with these beloved characters as they evolve into their adult lives and grow together. It’s been so therapeutic to revisit their lives, in this edition and beyond
