I have always loved clothes. My mom was my first inspiration - she never dressed like the other moms so she never dressed me like the other girls my age. And then when I became old enough to make my own fashion choices, I took it seriously. From simply going to mass on Sunday, to picture day at school (hello, 90s button covers), to the way I wore my volleyball uniform — I had my own style. Cue the humble brag of being voted "Best Dressed" in high school…

But the past year, I just sort of felt this shift like I could do better. And that really, I wanted to do better. Because I simply enjoy it so I wanted to see what I could do to uplevel.

Here are 5 things I started doing differently that really upleveled my style in the past year.

1. I started putting more effort in. I know that sounds simple but it’s true. I work from home and really don’t need to be “dressed” unless I have a zoom or something. But, I started getting dressed every morning and putting thought into the outfit. Didn’t have to be dressy but had to be put together - like an outfit I thought about.

You have to put in the reps to know what looks good together, what chances feel fun to take, what misses feel like, and that does not come overnight.

Soon, I was putting things together that pushed me out of my comfort zone, made me genuinely happy and excited to get dressed!

2. I started “collecting clothes” instead of simply shopping. Think about it - when we really need a certain item, we can never seem to find it and the whole thing feels forced. So I went back to simply buying what I loved, even if I had nowhere to wear it yet. Soon, I had a collection of clothes I loved instead of clothes I needed. That felt FUN and my confidence grew quickly.

I never felt like I "had nothing to wear" again. I had plenty — I just had to find unique, fun ways to put it together. That became something to look forward to, whether it was a school event, a weekend outing, or a work function, because I knew my closet had me covered.

3. I spent more money. Sorry, not sorry. I'm not shopping the highest-end luxury brands, but I'm also not always the budget-friendly, dupe-hunting type. I decided I wanted to spend more in this area. Maybe that meant spending less somewhere else. But I told myself that sometimes spending more IS WORTH IT. And I truly believe that. I have always lived that way in my home decor. I never bought off on the cheap couch because kids will ruin it - it’s just not me. So why skimp here.

I’m not saying blow your savings on a cute dress or great pair of denim but if style is something you want to improve on, then consider making some small shifts to afford some items you have already labeled “too expensive.” If you buy the right things, you will have and love them forever and cost per wear becomes so manageable!

4. I started studying the girls I admired and stopped longing for what they had. I took inspiration from them! Yes, a lot of the girls I follow have budgets that I don’t have, but I can still mix a leopard with a stripe on my own terms. Or experiment with a bold purple hue that I never would have before.

I started playing with color, patterns and decided jewelry made more of a statement than I originally thought. Wear the turquoise earrings with the red top. Buy the fun patterned pants and pair it with a striped sweater.

I find when you mix bold hues and fun patterns, it always looks more chic, more expensive, and more unique. Try it! You don’t have to copy exactly but study how the girls you admire do it, and then do it in a way that feels “like you.”

5. I started actually wearing my clothes. I wore the silk pants to back to school night. The fun skirt with silver shoes to NHS induction. The baggy denim shorts and an unbuttoned button-down to the BBQ, while everyone else was in two-inch-inseam denim and a tight tank. The blazer and striped top underneath to the auction meeting. Wear your clothes, receive the compliments, own the “overdressed” look, and get better at getting dressed. It’s so much more fun than showing up in 4 year old athleisure.

Lately, I’ve been trying to live in more joyful moments, maybe not taking life so seriously, even rejecting perfectionism. Mostly because I really don’t want my kids to think everything has to be an A+ all the time. My husband and I are grinders and I get great reward out of my job. But I can take it too far and that’s when joy becomes more elusive. I want them to see me with friends, having fun, working hard but not at the expense of being present in the moment, especially with them.

Also, because I’m such a grinder and I sort of thrive when I’m being productive and working hard, I can get too ahead of myself projecting into the future. But man, the anxiety that comes with that is real. The worry, the catastrophizing, the what ifs can get out of control. And honestly, my life is so good just as it is now. Trying to stay grateful for what we have accomplished so far and the life we have built - because it’s an amazing life! - while still working towards those dreams in the future. It’s all a balance I’m trying everyday to figure out. Does this resonate at all!?

Onto the fun stuff. These days, I just find I have so much to share that brings me joy. I love filling holes in my closet that feel intentional, I love having something for every occasion that makes me feel confident, and I love bringing it to you, hoping it does the same.

Today, I’m sharing my Summer Sweater Edit because legit - I think I wear more sweaters in the summer than winter! Some cutie must have summer finds that won’t break the bank, and did you know Anthro is having a sale? It’s sorta secret but I got you!

Summer Sweater Edit:

Soldout NYC’s cotton sweater - I own this in 2 color ways, navy and cream/black stripe and wear both equally. Over the shoulders of a sleeveless dress, over a tank with jeans and flips, this sweater is so versatile.

Marea has amazing sweaters. I’m particularly eyeing this shawl collar beauty but this Americana version is so good too. But her classic stripe sweaters are perfection.

J. Crew - nothing beats a classic J. Crew cotton rollneck sweater. It’s affordable, well made, I’ve had mine for like 3 or 4 years and every year I pull it out. This is the closest to what I have.

Not for everyone due to the pricepoint, but I’d be lying if I told you I don’t love The Great sweaters. They are just so good. Classic with a twist and will last a lifetime and only get better with age. You will love this one and this one.

Minnow - I think this was the first summer sweater I spent real money on several years back and I still wear it sooo much! I have worn this to the beach on spring break, with jeans at home, and this is the one I throw on like your favorite sweatshirt.

Quince - when you want the look but don’t want to spend more than $100 - scratch that, more than even $50! This is a great option. I have the light blue and it really does get the job done!

Recent Summer Finds:

Your Americana Summer has arrived with this dress from J. Crew. It’s $80 and seriously so cute.

But wait, I also grabbed this little tote bag to go with it. I will wear this all summer long - denim shorts and a white tee, running around town, etc. The price point is great so I don’t have to stress about getting it dirty, etc and the red is truly the perfect red!

This Ann Mashburn dress literally spoke to me. I had to have it. It had Ann B Schulte written all over it so I went for it. In love with the dual green and blue stripe and simple silhouette!

I shared this brown Soldout NYC dress this week - it’s a beautiful dress, guys. The color is so good - even better with a tan! And the style of the dress is feminine and pretty. Love this so much.

I adore these cute Lululemon shorts - athletic but make seersucker!

I got this new swimsuit this summer and I’m telling you - it will suck you right in, so flattering in all the right places and has enough backside coverage. I’m pairing it with this amazing cover up. It’s an incredible lightweight, wicking material! ANN15 will save you 15%.

I kind of splurged on these shorts but totally justified it because they were on sale and just so fun! I think they will be fun to mix and match prints with in literally any color!

Honestly, why do these things take me so long. You asked for this a while ago, so sorry for my delay. But it’s HERE!

And truly, it’s pretty simple.

Here we go…

I don’t use a Foundation but I do use this Beautycounter Dew Skin which is like a tinted moisturizer

Then, this Colleen Rothschild eye cream. Boy, do I love this under eye brightener - I look awake for once! And I apply it with this brush which is new and I love it. Fits right underneath my eye.

I am in LOVE with these Westman Atelier Bronzing Drops. I don’t use them everyday because I like to save them (lol), but use them when I put on my full face.

This is a really beautiful eye shadow. It’s subtle but lovely. Very natural.

If I do an eye liner, this is what I’ve been using. I only use liner for special occasions, honestly.

Then, onto lashes. I curl my lashes with this curler.

I use 2 mascaras and love them both. Sounds funny, but I use this one for everyday and this one for special occasions or a nice, full face of makeup.

Blush and cheeks! When I discovered Merit earlier this year for blush and highlight, it was all over. I’ve never loved anything more for my cheeks besides this duo.

I use Cheeky blush balm and have also recently discovered this Beverly Hills color too.

THEN, this is my favorite part. This highlighting stick is SO GOOD! I never won’t use it. Citrine is the color and just trust me - it’s so beautiful.

Here are the items I use…

I start with either of these face washes. I love and use both. Typically I do this Beautycounter one at night and this Tula one in the morning!

Then, both morning and night, I use this Anua serum. I’m obsessed. My skin feels so hydrated and healthy. It’s less than $20 and I buy 2 at a time. That’s how much I love it.

I use this collagen mask about 3 times a week at night. It’s so much easier to use than those ones you peel off and are so slippery, etc. It comes out like glue almost, and you lather it on and leave it for 30 minutes. Then it dries and you can peel it off. So satisfying.

These are the face pads I use each night. The combo of these pads plus the Anua serum is so good. You know how some pads feel like they work but actually you don’t notice much of a difference? I actually notice a difference with these.

The last step at night - I’m loving this Salty Face lotion. It’s supposed to give you a subtle glow when used consecutively and it does! It does not look like a self tanner, just a sun kissed glow. I love this. Use code: ANNS10 to save 10%.

I’ve recently started using this Age Renewal Super serum from Colleen Rothschild in the morning before my lotion and it’s been a great extra step.

Kidding, kidding… I know no one was sitting around wondering that. But I did unintentionally fall off the Substack planet for a bit. I heard someone say on IG, that if you got on Substack but aren’t consistent with it, it’s not the app for you.

I disagree.

I love Substack. But I also love my children, my job, my parents, the people who need me and frankly - life popped up on me and it was a season where I needed to be there for others and if I’m honest, figure some things out for myself too.

So here are a few quick hits of what’s gone down…

Lots of work travel for James

An incredible production of Oliver, with Will playing the Artful Dodger

Last minute canceled travel to Mexico for a work incentive trip right as the cartel situation went down - so yes, we did all the prep to get out of town which is like an olympic sport and no reward! (Was honestly SO glad to have the week at home)

City County Basketball playoffs and championship for Harrison - They won! I know it seems crazy but it’s a really big deal and they beat some incredible teams along the way! Great way to end his grade school basketball career!

Spring Break in Sea Island with our dear friends. A bit chilly but lots of fun had by all!

Choir concerts, soccer games, more basketball and some sleep throw in there.

On the work front, I’ve been figuring that out too. There’s definitely been a shift in the marketplace - every creator is feeling it. And in my own health business - boy, is that world changing with peptides and GLPs and etc. etc. An evolving business is always a challenge but I’m embracing it and it’s an exciting time for health and wellness!

Life is full and lovely and hard and real and exciting and I feel myself entering a new phase of it. More than just perimenopause but an all encompassing change. These baggy denim shorts are currently on their way to my house. I love a baggy denim short moment and I’m very excited about these. I did size down.

My friend had this raffia bucket bag on spring break and honestly, it’s the perfect summer bag. I will never not love raffia and this one is so good with the bamboo handle!

I started my health coaching business online at 38. I remember feeling so sad I didn’t do this sooner because I fell in fast love with what I did, who I served, and the purpose it gave me. (More here and here.)

Instagram had previously existed only as a way to shout out my kid’s birthdays and share a great vacation - remember those days?

Then suddenly, it became a place to connect with women all over the globe, share helpful tips and education that could actually help someone - oh and get paid for it too! Out of nowhere, an entrepreneur was born and a community of thousands erupted. It was so good.

But, that app sure has changed over the 7 years I’ve been at this. Some good, some not so good. I will say, the month of January was a hard time to be in the online space. Lots of hate, lots of judgment, lots of assumptions, lots of accusations, yada yada…. There have been hard moments in the past but this felt different. And for the first time, I felt burnt out and I questioned if I wanted to continue running my business this way, on this platform.

Then I stepped away to attend our annual conference and boy was it great timing. I got to see and connect with my other coaches friends, and I was reminded that THIS was the reason I got into this in the first place. Connection and community. Had it not been for the internet, and the IG platform, these women would not be in my life, these wonderful friends would not have been found, and the thousands of lives I’ve played a small part in helping, would not have come my way.

So I’m grateful. I’ll take the hard bumps and few unfavorable comments along the way if it means I get to form relationships like these. Worth it everytime. Those voices are always the loud ones, even in real life, but they are rarely the right ones.

As I have grown older, it’s allowed me to see that my timing was actually perfect. I think I would feel exhausted if I was 28 and just beginning my career online. I think I wouldn’t have the perspective I have, or made the career moves, or have the business I have, if I wasn’t 45 right now. And I think maturity helps in an environment like this one. People always want fast responses, and having a few years under my belt helps me stay patient, deliberate, and steady.

So, I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. Life is too good with you in it.

What I got complimented on the most in January and what I’m eyeing for February…

TRUST me when I say grab these jeans. Classic Levi’s and oh so perfect in every way. The fit, the wash, the length - literally contemplated grabbing another pair to have on deck. They said they run large so I sized down and I guess I’m glad I did, but probably could have done my regular size too.

Perfectly paired with the denim above, is this Soldout NYC top. I got it in Fawn and I’m obsessed. It’s such a great color and also perfectly oversized. I got my normal size so it would remain oversized but if you like a more tailored look, size down.

I also grabbed this chic classic layer in black. I needed something like this and this is perfect on its own or layered under a blazer.

You all went crazy for this great Athleta jacket I wore in San Diego last month. It’s such a great jacket and a very doable price point too. I’ll never not love my Nike Metcons for strength training and to me, I love a clean white pair. I also really loved this fun workout top, and this color way in leggings from Lululemon.

I get compliments on these jeans nonstop. I grabbed them during a huge post holiday sale at Saks but just found them stocked on sale!

I also haven’t stopped with my Jenny Bird jewelry since I got it! In absolute love with this classic gold bracelet and these earrings are the perfect statement - understated but chic. People are always asking about these pieces.

I shared this H&M sweater on IG because it was that surprisingly good. Such great quality, thick, great collar and detail and definitely ordering in black too!

I do have a warm weather trip coming up so I grabbed a couple different color ways of this swimsuit! Here’s the other one I grabbed! And fully planning to bring this top and this bottom with me! I’m obsessed with this suit. It fits so well. I wore it in Costa Rica last year and you all loved it too!

Also for said trip, how about this lime green top! I saw wear it and I was sold immediately! She can pull anything off..

So, real talk….

I have my first ever Colonoscopy next week and while it’s been on the calendar for a while, it just sort of hit me this week and it kind of rocked me. Not necessarily because of the procedure - my friends have assured me, it’s no big deal, but more so because it just sort of signifies another marker of time and frankly, aging. With 40 brought, mammograms, and with 45, here we are with colonoscopies!

I come from a health background, as a macro and fitness coach who has helped thousands of women, so I am always an advocate of checking all the boxes when it comes to your preventative care. So I’m not scared of the results and no, I don’t necessarily want to do the prep, but I’ll get through it. I’ll certainly live.

It’s all of this coupled with watching your oldest drive off for the first time alone, parenting angsty teenage moods who love you, but actually don’t want to be with you all the time, it’s aging parents - man, is that difficult, realizing you are about 2 years away from being done with grade school and also 2 years away from losing your oldest to college! It’s just time moving too fast.

And as I process all of this, I think it makes me feel a certain way because I love my life, and am so grateful for everything about it and everyone in it. I just don’t want it to move any faster than it already is!

Earlier today, I was at the grocery during a slow time and I watched a very elderly man struggle to put his groceries on the conveyor belt and I couldn’t help but think what he must have been like when he was my age.

Anyway, it’s all the cycle of life, I suppose. Here’s to health in 2026 and a perspective that lends gratitude to a life well lived.

On the note of health and new beginnings in 2026, I’m sharing some of my favorite wellness products today.

Creatine is a solid YES for me right now. Its benefits are just proven to be SO good as we age for muscle growth, but the brain health benefits are proven over and over again so I’m all in! I use our FW creatine and also really like this one from Thorne

It might be basic but this outfit is literally my uniform for winter workouts. I actually love working out, walking and playing tennis in this long sleeve top.

My favorite pants fit so well, are comfy and great for workouts and walks especially when paired with these socks in the winter! Literally both on rotation.

A few years ago, I invested in a workout bench for my teeny tiny workout space and it was so worth it. My weights are linked here. Don’t spend too much time with dumbbells that don’t challenge you! Invest in a new set every so often to keep workouts results driven!

I finally made my way back to Substack! I had so many good intentions of posting over break, but between the holidays, the household sickness, and the biggest week of the year in my business, it just didn’t happen and honestly, the words just weren’t there yet.

But, I’m ok with it. I’m such a driver, at all times and this year in 2026, I’m really trying to lean into not striving for perfection, not pushing through, honoring my time and space and capacity, and I’m really hoping that by doing that, I find myself in more meaningful situations, more presence within my family and friends, and expansion in my business.

There’s no other way to put it other than 2025 was not my favorite year. I am not going to go on and on but from the very start to the final finish, it was hard and I’m ready to move on from it.

It’s funny because I find myself hopeful for the new year but without huge expectations, excited, but for no real reason. I’m ready to just take the year as it comes and hopefully work alongside the goals and intentions James and I talked about because those look a LOT different than they did last year - a lot more well rounded. I want to be ready to take the inevitable hits and celebrate the wins I usually dismiss.

And since this is the place where I promised myself I’d go deeper and show more vulnerability, I had my first launch of 2026 on Jan 5, and as a health coach, that first launch out of the gate in January is usually the big Super Bowl launch. And while for me, and the original reason I got into coaching which is helping women discover what I discovered all those years ago, I’m thrilled with the amount of women I’ll be helping! Their lives are about to change forever and I believe so much in what I teach and that feels amazing.

That being said, I’m also a business owner and LOVE being an entrepreneur as well and if I’m honest, this launch was a little disappointing as far as the numbers go. I’m not dwelling on it and I’m truly so excited for the year ahead, it’s just the highs and lows of being a business owner - something I never thought I’d be and am so, so proud of.

I have been looking at this Sezane sweater forever and I think it’s finally time to just grab it. I think I’m going red, but there are SO many great color options!

I am a quick converter on this Oak Essentials body oil. I find I get so excited every time I get out of the shower just so I can put this on!

I know this La Ligne sweater is expensive but I also know sweaters like this are the perfect place to spend a little more. They will last forever and not pill, stretch out, or go out of style.

I spotted this jacket and really love it. I think I would wear it all the time in the winter and spring. Love the color combo and looks like great quality.

I’m still such a sucker for the Kule turtleneck. I have 3 color ways and I wear them constantly. Your winter staple for sure - on their own, or layered underneath.

The beloved Ruti pants are still on heavy rotation. When I say heavy, I mean I’m wearing them right now. They literally go with everything and are so comfortable while being chic too!

Santa gave James this shacket from Criquet and honestly he’s obsessed and so am I. I shared this one with you during the holidays and you all loved it too - hope your guys loved it!

I used my Caraway pans for ALLL my holiday cooking this season and they were such a dream. Easy clean up, safe and non-toxic and also affordable!

I’m in LOVE with these bronzer drops. They are Westman Atelier from Sephora and I think they offer just the slightest, loveliest color on your cheek bones! I use Soleil Parfait 1.

The most underrated piece I picked up this holiday season are these Jenny Bird earrings. I’m rarely a hoop girl but I tried these and honestly love them. I have worn them so much. But, If I’m honest, I fell in love with the Jenny Bird brand when I grabbed this bracelet first.

I have my big work Conference coming up at the end of this month. I’m so excited to wear this top with these pants - such a fun outfit! It’s in San Diego and I am leaning into fun, California vibes.

I wanted to share a few things I’ve picked up this season that I would absolutely buy over and over again…

I’ve worn these rainforest green leggings no less than 50 times this fall and I love them every time! The color is perfection and I love pairing it with scarves and vests and even this matching top and this scuba top. Don’t even get me started on the monochromatic look! Elevates your style instantly.

You can’t tell me this is not a great buy. I literally wear this snood scarf so much! It makes such a great gift at this price point and it’s so soft and warm!

I just got these Shashi earrings in and I tried to tell myself to wrap them up and put them under the tree but I just knew I would want to wear them before that! They are the perfect size and the green is so lovely. I’m really into them and would also make the chicest gift.

I’m SO excited to give this bead kit to my niece and this tote to my other niece!. You can personalize them and the prices are so good for such a great presentation.

I have to say, this Jenny Bird bracelet surprised me! I mean I knew I would love to add a gold bangle to my stack but this one actually stands out among the rest - it’s bold, sturdy and is just so beautiful.

I finally got a chance to wear this green tassel top and all it did was make me want to get it in black! I LOVED it and got so many compliments! I paired it with these Chan Luu pants and these really cool mid height heels and will certainly wear this beyond the holidays. Unfortunately, I think green is sold out but black is so elegant.

I’m dying to gift this wine glass set to someone!! Any ideas!? So many of you have grabbed it and I think it’s the most fun gift but have already gifted all the lovely ladies in my life!

This is honestly the most elegant, beautiful, fun top! I love it way more than I thought I would. In fact, I anticipated returning it but instead I tried it on and immediately hung it in my closet. Lovely with jeans and these brown boots or these ones, or with black pants, belted.

You know when you decide not to exchange gifts but you still want to cheat and get her a little something? That’s what I did with this body wash! I grabbed about 5 to give out to some special ladies in my life. I never buy things like this for myself so I felt like it was a treat to give and affordable, still.

And because the guys always get neglected - sorry James - here’s a great shacket I picked up for my husband! I think he’s going to love it.

I’ve been talking about health and nutrition and fitness and wellness on the internet for almost 7 years now. I’ve been in super strict routines and habits and I’ve been in more lax and maintenance modes.

Here’s what I know for sure about navigating the holidays so you feel good, energized, and happy but without restriction or getting too heavy on the food rules. The holidays should be enjoyed - and that includes food and rest!

Here we go…

• Remember that the holidays are really just a few days over the next month. There are plenty of days in between where you can simply focus on whole food nutrition which will save you from bloat and fatigue. Don’t deny yourself food because you had a big night out, either. Fuel up with the right foods, heavy on protein and fiber, and save the alcohol for the special nights and you’ll be just fine!

• DECIDE. I love this mindset hack. Before you head out the party, DECIDE on the things you will and won’t have. DECIDE that you will skip the cheese board because you never feel good after it. DECIDE that you will have 2 glasses of wine and that’s it. DECIDE that you will skip the cupcakes. DECIDE that the mac & cheese is totally worth it… but maybe you skip the eggnog. The power of deciding is actually huge because it saves you from being tempted in the moment and on the spot. You have already made the decision so you can move on enjoying your night.

• Prioritize your workouts. Believe that 30 minutes of movement is worth it. It’s one of the few things you can control so get in your workout - whether that’s walking when staying at your in-law’s house, or doing a strength workout at home, or playing football in the yard with the kids. GET MOVING. You’ll never regret it.

• When in doubt, drink lots of water and get lots of sleep! The oldest tricks in the book, but there’s a reason they are still relevant. Those 2 things will cut down on bloat and fatigue and give you the energy you need during this busy time!

I could go on and on but this is a good place to start - without the overwhelm - when it comes to navigating your health during this busy and celebratory time! You got this. Don’t be scared of weight gain - enjoy the holidays with intention and strategy! What would you add to the list?

Every year I share this on Instagram and it always gets a lot of love so I wanted to share it here as well in case you want to try it with your own family!

Several years ago, on a whim when the kids were little, we decided to do a family gift exchange and it’s been a favorite tradition ever since. It’s so sweet to see how the kids view each other and us, mom and dad, and what they think we might like.

Over the years it has morphed and evolved and now, this is how we do it:

We first draw names out of a hat. Of course you can’t get yourself and you cannot tell anyone who you have - but I swear, Will, my oldest, always does. ;)

The budget is $25 with strict instructions not to go over that (though Louise always does).

Our store of choice has become Target because it has the most options and variety especially at that price point.

We choose a night that works for everyone, head to Target and all scatter when we get inside

The kids must use gift cards that they have acquired throughout the year to pay for their gift

They also must fully check out at the register on their own. No help from mom and dad. This is the sweetest part - the sneaky videos I have throughout the years are priceless!

Everyone is in charge of hiding and wrapping their gifts and keeping them in safe keeping until Christmas Eve, when we exchange.

On Christmas Eve, typically in the afternoon before mass and all the festivities, we gather in the living room and exchange gifts - see picture above with all of our loot!

But the rule is, you have to say something nice about the person you are gifting before presenting the gift. And actually, this is the best part.

We have had some really awesomely creative and spot on gifts, as well

as some pretty funny moments in Target (including me running into a high school boyfriend with a gift hidden inside my coat - yes, I looked like I was shoplifting) and more than anything, it’s just a happy tradition that shows care and love for each other and doing it as a family. We love this tradition and maybe you will too!

To me, oven mitts and a cute apron are like the fun flair you can add and change the vibe of depending on the time of year and these mitts are literally so fun and make the perfect gift for the kitchen lover in your life!

For you bestie, mom, sister, or special aunt in your life - these earrings! I just ordered them for myself and cannot wait to get them!

Have you ever had a Hotel Lobby Candle? They are simply the best - perfectly packaged and just lovely. I actually keep them stocked at home and use as hostess gifts when I need something!

What is it about going back to your old high school? (For the record, I did NOT give them that job title!) A couple months ago, I was asked to speak to juniors and seniors at my old high school for a career day which took place this past Tuesday. I loved it. So much nostalgia, so many happy memories, and I’m telling you those walls just bring you right back to the glory days! And all those hopeful and excited kids! It was awesome.

It’s a funny thing, telling your story and really recounting your path since the age of 18. The twists and turns, the wrong ways, the necessary steps, the exciting moments, the moments you thought were leading one way, when really they were leading somewhere else all along.

You don’t think about it on a daily basis, when you are living your life, doing your work, and raising your kids. But we all have a story if you really think about it. Something poignant (or several somethings) that lead us to the place we are today.

I felt so inspired watching those students, knowing I was literally in their seats, in that Physics classroom with Sr. Mary Paul wondering how I would pass thist class, not that long ago! Or, at least, it sure doesn’t feel like it. They have their whole lives ahead. And I felt like I had so much to say to them, so much to say to my younger self sitting in their chairs. And when I thought about it, mostly, I would say to trust yourself and to bet on you. You won’t let yourself down - despite the inevitable failures that lie ahead - because no one cares for your future as much as you do!

Anyway, just some thoughts about perspective, getting just a tad older, remembering your roots, and the gift of being able to look back on your life and be proud of and grateful for all that you’ve accomplished, the paths you chose, and the life it brought you.

Oh and this is what I wore! It’s always fun to look a little special when taking a trip back to the old stomping grounds and I loved this look.

Thanksgiving is next week and we are headed to New Orleans to see family! I love, love, love this trip. It is so much fun to see my family, eat great food, be outdoors in beautiful settings, and my kids love it too. We have been doing this every year, or every other year since we moved to Missouri from California when I was 6.

It’s a quick trip but always worth it. We have 2 full days of family gatherings with the same group so it’s a great time to catch up. Here are a few things I’m bringing…

This dress. I love this Thanksgiving option!

I would pair it with this necklace! Fun, right? And probably these boots again!

But I still might wear this dress with this jacket because honestly, they deserve more wear than I have been able to give them this season!

And the Ruti pants are now a staple because they are just SO flattering! I will bring these along possibly for the second day or even travel. They are so versatile - dress them up with flats and a wrap or blazer, or dress them down with sneakers and a cool sweater.

Definitely bringing my Pistola jeans and maybe this basic but great sweater for the second day which tends to be more casual with outdoor fires, fishing, and riding horses! Maybe I’ll add this Quince snood or this Boden vest to elevate the look a bit.

That’s about as far as I have gotten thinking ahead to packing. I’ll share anything else I decide to throw in too!

Thankful doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about this community and your being here! YOU have allowed me to live this dreamy life I got to share with high school students this week and I’m eternally grateful! Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m back and honestly pretty excited and inspired to write my second post. Thank you ALL for subscribing so quickly and I hope we can continue grow here together!

Last week on Instagram, I polled you all about what topics you wanted me to discuss or write about on Substack and the resounding majority chose fashion and style. So we’ll start there today with 10 things I’m reaching for in my closet, eyeing to add to my closet, and loving for holiday. As always, please feel free to leave a comment below with any topic ideas - this is only fun if I’m writing about topics you love!

This can be a whole topic on its own (and it will be), but I’ve been feeling a shift in my style recently which has been so interesting to me. I’m drawn to colors and styles I’ve never been drawn to before and honestly, it’s so fun! I’m not holding back because of old habits and I’m just sort of rolling with it! I encourage you to do the same - do what feels good and fun!

I saw a stat the other day that said, women are like 15% happier when they buy more clothes. (Um, What!?) It went on to say they have increased confidence and actually it turns out those clothes DO make them happier! I quickly decided not to fact check this one and just went with it because it certainly supports my stance! ;)

Ok, onto the 10 Things…

1. These La Ligne pants. I have had my eyes on these and I think I might take the plunge. Great with a sweater and dressy top and heels. So versatile and incredibly chic!

2. Tuckernuck is knocking it out the park and I currently have this tassel dress in my cart in festive red! Not to be confused with this tassel top that I already own in festive green! Both of these are just so me - a few of my friends even sent this to me saying I should buy it!

3. The amount of wear I have gotten out of my Loeffler Randall Goldy Boots justifies the cost like 100 times over. Truly. I love them, they are classic and for the second year in a row, I reach for them all the time!

4. I love a good matching “set” for working out but I’m not a bra or cropped top kind of gal. But, my favorite is finding and matching the same color ways across different items at Lululemon. My fave combo is the Align Pant and the Switfly Long Sleeve Top! Yes, I love working out in long sleeves in the winter. I own this combo in black, navy, and rainforest green!

5. The star of Fall has definitely been these Ruti pants! I actually love them and you all have snatched them up just as quickly as I have! I own in brown and black and wear them both a ton! Currently on sale!

6. I grabbed this Quince snood sort of randomly but honestly, it’s an inexpensive way to really elevate an outfit! I love this neutral color that will go with most outfits and it’s SO SOFT! Great bang for the buck!

7. I’m so tempted by this Quince coat! It’s incredibly chic and the price can’t be beat. I have a long coat very similar and that’s my only hesitation but honestly, I think I would wear the short style more! This is very on trend right now and so affordable.

8. Speaking of coats, this J. Crew long coat has been all over the internet! Lots of women are sharing it and for good reason. I’m obsessed with the plaid - very subtle and classic and the price is so good! On sale!

9. Denim. Honestly, I keep reaching for 3 different pairs so I will share them all. We all went nuts for the Pistola bowed jean I recently shared - so flattering, so comfortable and so easy to throw on with cute sneakers. Size down here. I recently bought these black SLVRLAKE Grace jeans and they are perfect. Just the perfect amount of dressed up without being too refined. And his sister, the SLVRLAKE Grace denim that I have owned for 3 years and still reach for - worth the investment!

10. Lastly, I’m ending with a gorgeous holiday cocktail dress. So classically chic, and very Hepburn with the collar. I love the olive green color. This is a special one.
