The surprising surgery experiment

One famous example involved patients with severe knee osteoarthritis.

How can this happen?

It happens so often as we are watching football games ,having meals ,preparing meals or even doing our cleaning ,when suddenly boom the power goes out followed by an apologizing notification for the providers saying they are working on it .

Sometimes we understand since it is a protective measure from danger during heavy rains and strong wind that can bring lighting strikes to the power lines or cause breakage branches that may attach to power lines causing danger .But up to when will we be understanding as a nation?

The power outage has good effects and multiple of bad ones .On my own realization is that amateur astronomers and late night star gazers suffer a lot while living in the city due to presence of floodlights that hinder this but when lights go off they can view it ,in other household communication only becomes key when the Wi-fi router flicks or goes off so it is a chance to catch up.

Social media is also reducing our sleep schedule so when an outage happens we catch our sleep fast before the alarms goes off .

These are only the minimal positives of power outage but what about the economy .The shilling is suffering every second since ATMs can not dispense money, ETR depending supermarkets without back up generators halt operations ,mama mbogas at the markets waste almost half of the stock that would have been bought by late night buyers, theft of phones and personal belongings increase drastically since the conditions are not favorable .

Our narrative happens in the cool lowlands of Central Kenya where what is on going is a burial to a father ,an uncle ,a cousin and a gentleman that made life worth living for uncountable people his heart was larger than that of a catholic pope . Good as he may be let us shift our attention to the master of ceremony who was my uncle ,truth be said i don`t speak that much to him but the few times I have done so allowed to me to realize that he is a very tough man and may be even potential to the army or some shit that tries to break your crap out of the norm ,so this just instilled some sort of goosebumps and level of extra attention whenever a one on one oppurtunity to interact with him occurred.

As we continued with the service emotions were waivering all over and thoughts got deeper and deeper ,introspection was louder each second although no words were realistically hard .Time for the tributes came about and this is where you surely wish you could fast forward to the next hour because now you truly share the pain of loss with those who spent time with the beloved .The family then cousin and then everyone was done according to the programme but the Mc (My Uncle ) had one too just handwritten and as he got back to the stage and start reading his tribute silence broke out as people listened ,one or two seen reaching out for paper towels and handkerchiefs ,not only was i reaching out too but also moved by this act of respect.

Never had I ever seen this man this emotional even when we thought it was over for him but truly I understood that we are all human in the end .

At the end of the day just know bad or emotionally wrecked as you look you are someone`s pillar of support ,someone out there or closer within your circle looks at you and think you are unbreakable and the impact of greetings or any form of support may forever impact them in ways you would not fathom at your level.

No predators.
No disease.

Calhoun’s most famous experiment — later called Universe 25 — has since become one of the internet’s favorite metaphors for modern life. Depending on who’s telling the story, it is either:

But the real story is more complicated or rather just philosophical but may act as a prophesy towards the future and really help us in our daily decisions.

Well the experiment was made using rats but now it reflects what may happen when everything comes with ease and how a stable society slowly collapses to crumbs .

Well what happened in this experiment and how does it tumble down to us :

Calhoun placed a small number of mice inside a carefully designed enclosure capable of supporting thousands of inhabitants.At first, everything worked perfectly.

The mice reproduced rapidly.
Social structures formed naturally.
The population doubled again and again.

The experiment appeared to prove that when survival problems disappear, society becomes stable and prosperous.But as the population grew denser, behavior slowly began changing.

THE BEGINNING OF STRATIFICATION:

1. The Aggressive Males

Some male mice became extremely violent.

They attacked others randomly.
Fights became frequent.
Territories became unstable.

Normally, mouse societies have organized hierarchies and predictable roles. But inside Universe 25, those systems broke down.

Aggression no longer had purpose.
It became chaotic.

In many ways, this reflects parts of modern society today:
constant outrage,
internet hostility,
rage-driven content,
and people emotionally attacking strangers online for stimulation or dominance.

A society flooded with stress and overstimulation often produces emotional aggression.

2. The Withdrawn and Broken Females

Female mice began struggling to nurture their young.

Some abandoned their babies.
Others became overly stressed and defensive.
Infant survival rates dropped sharply.

The social environment had become psychologically unstable.

This part of the experiment is often overlooked, but it matters deeply:
when a society loses stability, caregiving itself becomes harder.

3. The Isolated Mice

They looked physically perfect.
Their fur remained clean and smooth because they no longer participated in difficult social behaviors.

But they also:

• stopped mating,

• stopped competing,

• stopped protecting others,

• and stopped contributing to the survival of the colony.

They existed only for passive comfort.

This is the part of the experiment that continues haunting the internet decades later.

Because many people see parallels with modern digital life.

A generation endlessly consuming:

• content,

• entertainment,

• aesthetics,

• short dopamine hits,

• and carefully curated identities —

while slowly disconnecting from deeper purpose, community, and participation in reality.

The “beautiful ones” were not destroyed physically.

They withdrew psychologically.

The Collapse of Universe 25

Eventually, reproduction nearly stopped completely.

Young mice failed to develop normal social behaviors because they had grown up inside dysfunction.

Even when overcrowding later decreased, the society could not recover.

The damage had already been done.

The colony slowly moved toward extinction.

Not because of predators.

But because the social fabric collapsed from within.

The major motto of the journey was “FURAHIA MAISHA KILA WAKATI VYOVYOTE IWEZEKANAVYO!!”

The main aim was some community service followed by a very and i mean very challenging hike ,midway most of us were really questioning our life choices and whether this was really the key to view the world with a new and cleaner lens.But nevertheless if you are reading this I made it back to the flooding city in one piece .

The whole journey was quite enjoyable and will not forget my group since the made it my core memories .The major highlight of the whole event was that most of us were just strangers while going for the event but came back as family after the challenges .Some jokes were not too good but others made me know that ribs really can crack with laughter. Interactions after the event really confirmed that we got new lenses to life after seeing the extra privileges we have and also the laughs were of joy but were a therapy for the years after COVID pandemic since a good laugh from then is rare like a white rhino.

In these few months I have discovered that most of our Gen-Z dopamine is released when the sun kisses the African lowlands goodnight because the night comes with unknown possibilities of how the night might end.

You take one look at your watch and it is a few minutes to midnight ,silently planning the escape to your house when the next time you are fully conscious you are singing on some random well lit streetlight and then comes the games that are only remembered in flashes without a clear knowledge of who won and even the game that you were playing.

What follows is the sweetest nap of your life and you either wake up in your friends couch or your own bed with no glimpse of memory how you arrived to the house. A few minutes to the alarm ringing you become self aware and already you are planning for the day.

Here today I share two experiences that made me understand why clothes speak before any intonation from your mouth.

First one :On Saturday morning casually sleeping at 10 am when mom knocks on the door and y`all know what follows “Cabinet Minister ,Do you want breakfast in bed ?”,After the whole banter I am walking to the sitting room half awake pulling on a hoodie with sagging worn out tracksuit pants fighting gravity as I receive instructions for an errand within the neighborhood .I pick my phone and leave .After picking the package I receive a phone call that a certain vaccine is needed for the vet who is passing by in a few without hesitation I start looking in all the agrovets i know ,none has this vaccine and next I am on a bike to the nearest town on the ride I slowly start looking at myself and well this aren`t the best of my clothes but i do not give a fuck .On arrival to the agrovet ,the guy serving me has ever served me before ,the look on him says it all.He is uttermost doubt whether I am the same guy cause the tracksuit had faded but they are fit pajamas and the crocs were dirty as hell.

Second Instance: On Tuesday I am pushing a wheelbarrow full of clay and flowers with a full gardening apron moving back home then suddenly a guy hoots his van towards me ,I ignore .He proceeds to hoot at me and this time i look and he drives by and says ‘Niko na Job’ mahn am so clueless almost asking why tf that it`s my business then it hits me ,I am in a fucking apron and he wants me as his labourer.

Well this two incidents seem minimal but as a certified overthinker ,I have come to a conclusion that clothes do speak !

It was 6 am on a Thursday morning ,the cold brushing across my neck as I am casually approaching the bus stage coz we must still push on .I spotted a nice graffiti mat and waited for the conductor to hear the price coz I wasn`t going up to the last station.

WOW! It was a woman ,personally I have a greater amount of respect for lady conductors coz kundondoka is a skill on its on and one miss is a kiss to the tarmac or pothole .She is well dressed in their casual maroon uniform matter of fact this sacco or owner of the van cares for them because the uniform is very new and well kept.

The suspense holds as she is conversing with the stage marshal whether they are people who are going to the route she is plying. Obviously the marshal must say yes whether he is sure or nor matter of fact they even say yes when there is nobody on the stage.

Finally the tout is here and we agree on a price and I head towards the matt. Luckily or unluckily I lack a seat and end up on the wooden board that looks deceiving to comrades eyes for a chopping board. It is placed next the touts chair soon another passenger comes and the van is full if not overloaded .You may ask where the lady tout will be well this is Kenya .It is so casual that she stands with her face next to mine as she seeks for payment confirmation ,she lowers her mask to remain audible .

We love to believe that we are rational.

We claim we are original but we wait for the exam period where we run to an indian page…….

We make our lives centered on the person offering the free things rather than trying to bee the centre of gravity and tend to be the pin pulled by the magnet rather than the magnet itself….

This week I have worked with totally new people and through the minimal interaction I have understood that there are so many attributes that I have access to and extremely stressing on their use while others I have not fully tapped just like the rubies story I oftenly remember that A farmer was aware of his lazy sons so on his death bed he informed that there is great treasure and rubies below on the land directly below to which the house was sitting on so the sons brought down the house and dug all through the land without any success but through all this the sons decided to find other pursuits in order to find a roof to cover their heads in storms .In whatever way you may argue the father may haven`t left a legacy but a good task to which led to a moment of realization thus his sons were enlightened and became useful towards the society.

I was busy doodling as I followed a youtube video on some the art i was occupied with. Well in my eyes it looked just fine but then my little sister came and pointed out why it isn`t giving the actual image.

At first I was very unbothered because it wasnot like I was Leonardo Da Vinci or De Capario it was just a doodle but anyway I heeded to her and well it wast all that good but it came great ,did it?

Well not like the intial thing that I wanted but I just feel that this made me more relaxed or just more stimulated by dopamine of being original. I found the insight as to why one should be original in all their undertakings; every story ,every drawing ,every song ,every speech .
