GPU→ NVIDIA

2. Foundry→ TSMC

3. Memory / Storage→ Micron、SanDisk、Seagate

4. Semiconductor Equipment→ASML、Lam Research、Applied Materials、KLA

5. Networking→ Broadcom、Credo、Arista

6. AI Cloud / Data Center→ CoreWeave、Nebius、Equinix、Applied Digital

7. Power→ GE Vernova、Eaton、Vistra、Bloom Energy、X-Energy

This is a public episode. And Peter, it’s always great to speak with you. There’s a lot to talk about. But first, I just want to start with a broader question, and that is we’re coming off of Artemis II making history. Americans and humanity returning to the vicinity of the moon. A lot of focus right now on the SpaceX IPO, which also could make history. Looking at the space space, are we reaching escape velocity?

Peter Beck

Well, I mean, look, it’s super exciting. And I think— and I can speak for everybody watching the Artemis mission, I think was Fantastic. And I think NASA did a really great job of making that, you know, making it feel like everybody was along for the ride. So firstly, you know, acknowledgement there, it’s just awesome. But, you know, I think the space industry is just continuing to do its thing, which is grow and expand. And, you know, we’ve talked about this for a number of years, and I think, you know, I can remember probably having an interview with you about talking about one day there’ll be the democratization of launch, and like, you know, no longer governments will be launching, it’ll be all commercial. And then, you know, fast forward today, it seems absurd that a government would be doing launch. So I think this is just, you know, the roll forward of the space industry and, you know, what we can expect to happen and just the continual expansion and growth in it. And, you know, it’s super exciting and a great time to be alive.

Interviewer

Yeah, so in light of that, what do you think is next? I mean, if we were talking about democratization of launch, and I remember those conversations a couple of years ago, What do you think this next chapter brings?

Peter Beck

Well, I think you’re seeing some really interesting opportunities. I mean, internet from space wasn’t a real thing until relatively recently. Now, direct-to-devices is coming. And in the last 6 months, you’ve seen the evolution of perhaps orbital data centers. And those things will just continue to grow. And like I’ve always said, The biggest thing to be done in space hasn’t even been thought of yet. And, you know, there’s just opportunities abound.

Interviewer

Yeah. And speaking of direct-to-cell satellite constellations, we did just see this, this big deal announced with Amazon acquiring Globalstar. You are a key contractor within the supply chain for that satellite constellation. Just want to get your thoughts on that, what it means for Rocket Lab and what it does mean for M&A across the industry.

Peter Beck

Yeah, well, I think you’re seeing, you know, spectrum being valued very highly and, you know, If you are looking to deploy large services in space, you need, in my opinion at least, you need 3 things. You need high cadence access to space, which you need your own rocket. You need the ability to build satellites at scale, and you need the spectrum. So, as you think about Amazon’s rolling out their services, it was fairly logical to me that at some point that you know, spectrum assets were going to be required for them. So not kind of too surprising there, but I think, you know, it certainly does, you know, value spectrum in a whole new light. And, you know, those three elements are critical and key. And, you know, various folks will make sure that they, you know, hold all those things. Yeah.

Interviewer

You also just closed your own most recent acquisition for Minarik. What does that mean for Rocket Lab?

Peter Beck

Well, it means a couple of things. So, you know, one, if you think about what are the key elements of building satellites at scale, you know, one of those key elements, if you want to move data around at least, is optical terminals. And, you know, the optical terminal part of the industry has been a really big pain point, not only for us, ‘cause we use them on a number of our spacecraft, but for everybody else. So, you know, acquiring Menarik, we were able to acquire, you know, the best terminal company, probably not the best-run company, but we’ll soon fix that, but certainly the best technology. But, you know, going forward, it also gives us a foothold into Europe, which, you know, outside the US is arguably the next biggest actionable market. So for us, it represents two things. One, solving kind of the terminal problem, and then secondly, like, our continued global expansion.

Interviewer

I mean, we talk so much about increased defense spending, not just here in the US, but globally as well, including in places like Europe. Are you seeing more of those dollars funnel into space activities as well in places like Europe?

Peter Beck

Oh, absolutely. I mean, just take Germany alone. There’s the, you know, I can’t remember how many billions it was, but many, many billions focused directly on space. And the challenge there is, in a lot of these European countries especially, is they haven’t really built the infrastructure or the industrial base to execute on these projects. So that’s where someone like Rocket Lab can come along with, you know, complete end-to-end services from, you know, a laser terminal to a spacecraft to launch and really, you know, solve some of those sovereign issues pretty, pretty quickly.

Interviewer

Now you also just announced a new satellite thruster called Goss. What does that entail?

Peter Beck

Yeah, so I mean, it’s sort of following the same thesis really, like you know, following all the pain points in the industry, and electric propulsion, or EP, has just been a massive pain point in the industry because nobody has really successfully scaled that product and made it really widely available. And once again, you know, we’re just sort of, you know, healing our own wounds on our own programs here with that. You know, we suffered at the fate of EP ourselves, so, you know, we had a look around and see if there’s any good companies to acquire that’s kind of, you know, as part of our thesis, and then if there wasn’t, then we’ll just go and do it ourselves. So, you know, in this instance, we just went and did it ourselves. So, you know, hopefully at least, you know, the EP pain point can be somewhat reduced.

Interviewer

And so if we just stick with the satellite and spacecraft piece of the business, I mean, you just mentioned it before, but data centers in space. What does that opportunity look like for Rocket Lab? Are you working on it? How do you see that coming together?

Peter Beck

Well, I think inarguably there is going to be some data centers in space. For strategic and defense reasons, that makes a ton of sense. Now, will all the data centers migrate from Earth to space? I’m kind of less sure about that. But, you know, certainly we want to make sure that we’re in a position to take advantage, either if it’s a small market or a giant market. And you’ve seen us, you know, announce things like, you know, our gigawatt-class silicon solar cells and arrays. So, you know, if you’re going to power these things, then you need gigawatts of solar power. So, we developed a very specific product just for that solution. So, you know, it goes along with our kind of core values here, is like, everything that goes to space, whether we built it or we launched it or whatever, should have a Rocket Lab logo on it. Preferably the largest logo possible, but irrespective, it should have a Rocket Lab logo on it. We can provide the picks and shovels for the industry, but also we’ve kind of reached a point now where if we want to go and build something, we have all the pieces and the scale that we need to just go and do that as well.

Interviewer

Yeah, with SpaceX poised to come public as soon as June, do you think it changes the competitive landscape in any way?

Peter Beck

Well, I think it makes some kind of interesting comps in the market. I think that will be interesting. I think it also brings a sense of scale to the space sector that will force much more, you know, closer following by analysts and people understanding the space sector because, you know, one of the things I would say is, you know, you talk to investors and it’s a very difficult sector to understand because there’s just so many, you know, fundamentals and kind of to the downfall you’ve seen, you know, especially some public companies that, you know, come public, they make great aspirations and wave their arms everywhere about doing amazing things and then just die. And it’s very difficult for an investor to discern what is, you know, what is truth and what is kind of fiction, unless you want to go and do some hardcore orbital dynamics and some maths. So, you know, I think SpaceX going public will kind of, you know, solve some of those problems. you know, provided they do well, also, you know, shine a light on the sector that hasn’t been shown before.

Interviewer

And of course, you do have comps in the market with Rocket Lab in particular. The stock’s been on fire for the last couple of years. We’ve gone this far into the conversation, we haven’t talked about launch. So what is your outlook for the launch market, especially as you look to bring Neutron online later this year in the fourth quarter?

Peter Beck

Yeah, so I mean, Neutron is a key part of our end-to-end solution. Strategy and puzzle. So, you know, we’ve talked a lot about satellites, as you mentioned, but I think we’re in good shape there. We can build whatever satellite we want, and at almost any scale we want now. So, that’s great, but the last kind of piece of the puzzle there is launch, if you want to truly be an end-to-end space company. So, yep, we’re working hard on Neutron and getting that to the pad. I mean, it is a dramatically different launch vehicle than just, you know, you know, something that is just a straightforward vehicle to go to orbit. And yep, sure, it’s taking a little bit more time than we would also want, but, you know, I think it’s time well spent because, you know, what we’re doing there is, you know, we can’t bring a market, you know, sorry, bring a vehicle to market that is good, that is just as good as the vehicle that’s currently in the market. That’s not a recipe for success. We have to bring a vehicle to the market that is dramatically better than the vehicle currently already in the market.

Peter Beck

So, that’s why the vehicle looks substantially different, operates substantially differently, and, you know, is important to get right.

From the “wild west” era of the 2021 SPAC craze to today’s capital winter, countless space startups have burned through their cash and collapsed. Yet, Rocket Lab $RKLB has demonstrated remarkable stock price resilience over the past few quarters.

In a recent interview, Peter Beck emphasized three words: “End-to-End.” These three words represent the survival law for the space industry over the next five years.

The Vertical Integration of Mynaric and Goss

In the interview, Beck discussed the acquisition of the German optical communications terminal manufacturer Mynaric and the launch of their in-house satellite thruster, Goss.

The Bull Case

Beck was blunt: optical terminals are a “massive pain point” for the industry. In space, traditional RF bandwidth is no longer sufficient; all future LEO constellations (especially the DoD’s SDA orders) must be equipped with laser communications. Much like the “Silicon Photonics and CPO” revolution in terrestrial AI data centers, this is a physical necessity.

Investors should note Beck’s exact sentiment: “We acquired the company with the best technology, but it may not have been a well-managed company; we will fix that quickly.” Mynaric previously fell into a severe manufacturing bottleneck and cash flow crisis, causing its stock to plummet. $RKLB effectively snatched up a decade’s worth of critical tech at a bargain price when the target was most vulnerable.

What happens when you can’t find a good electric propulsion (EP) company to buy? Beck’s answer: “We build it ourselves.” From star trackers and solar panels to reaction wheels and now laser terminals and thrusters, $RKLB is replicating SpaceX’s core competency—vertical integration. When $RKLB bids for multi-hundred-million-dollar constellation contracts, they won’t lose margins to external suppliers, giving them ultimate pricing power.

The Risks

Taking over a “mismanaged” company requires significant management bandwidth and cash to plug financial holes. Mynaric’s failure to deliver was due to the difficulty of maintaining yields for optical alignment in extreme space environments. If $RKLB cannot rapidly scale these yields within the next 2–3 quarters, the acquisition will result in “restructuring costs” and “margin drag,” making them a target for Wall Street shorts.

European Defense Anxiety and the “Shovel Seller” Philosophy

The Bull Case

Beck noted: “Germany has billions focused on space, but they haven’t built the infrastructure or industrial base to execute. This is where Rocket Lab can provide end-to-end services.”

Amid the Russia-Ukraine war and geopolitical tensions, European nations are suffering from severe “space sovereignty anxiety.” They desperately need their own military reconnaissance and communication networks, but the European Ariane rocket is lagging, and domestic satellite manufacturing cannot keep up.

By acquiring Mynaric, $RKLB is buying more than tech; it is buying a “local ticket” as an EU defense supplier. When European governments have the budget but lack the means, $RKLB can offer a turnkey solution: “From satellite design and laser components to the final launch—we handle it all.”

The “Shovel Seller” for Orbital Data Centers

Regarding orbital data centers, Beck admitted he isn’t sure how big the market is, but his strategy is clever: “If this happens, you need Gigawatt-scale solar power. We’ve already developed that product.” Regardless of which tech giant wins the Space AI race, $RKLB aims to profit by supplying the energy (solar panels).

The “Valuation Anchor” of a SpaceX IPO

One of the most insightful parts of the interview was Beck’s take on a potential SpaceX IPO (rumored for June).

The Bull Case

Usually, the arrival of a massive competitor in the public market scares peers due to “capital crowding.” Beck, however, views it as a major tailwind. Why?

* New Valuation Frameworks: Wall Street currently struggles to value $RKLB. Analysts often misapply traditional manufacturing or software P/E ratios to the capital-intensive, long-cycle space industry. Once a $100B+ SpaceX is public, top-tier investment banks (Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley) will be forced to establish a standardized “Space Infrastructure Valuation Framework.”

* Spillover Capital: Many large mutual funds or ETFs have position limits and cannot put all their capital into a single stock (SpaceX). As the only “second-best” player with real launch and manufacturing capabilities, $RKLB will naturally absorb massive spillover funds, leading to a P/E rerating. A SpaceX IPO is $RKLB’s strongest catalyst.

The Reality Check: The Engineering Gamble of Neutron Delays

Finally, we must face $RKLB’s biggest risk: the delay of the Neutron medium-lift rocket. Beck explained: “We can’t just bring a rocket to market that is ‘as good’ as what’s out there. That’s not a recipe for success. We have to bring something that is a massive step-change.”

Risk 1: Perfectionism vs. Physics

When a company repeatedly delays a product in pursuit of “disruptive innovation,” it is often a warning sign that engineering complexity is spiraling. Neutron’s competitor is the SpaceX Falcon 9—a rocket that has launched hundreds of times with extreme reliability and optimized costs. Beck’s attempt to “leapfrog” the Falcon 9 in terms of reusability and payload-to-cost ratios on the first try is a massive engineering gamble.

Delays mean Neutron will continue to burn free cash flow. If further delays are announced toward the end of 2026 (the original Q4 maiden flight target), investor patience will wear thin, and the market may price the future cash flow of Neutron at zero.

Risk 2: The Spectrum Gap

Discussing Amazon’s acquisition of Globalstar, Beck noted that deploying large-scale space services requires three things: Rockets, mass-manufacturing, and Spectrum.

$RKLB has the first two, but they lack spectrum. While $RKLB is the perfect “Space Foxconn” (infrastructure OEM), it will be difficult for them to pivot into a high-margin service provider (B2C/B2B operator) like Starlink. Their ceiling is, to some extent, capped by the margins of hardware manufacturing and launch services.

Conclusion

Peter Beck’s interview reveals a visionary entrepreneur with immense ambition and a clear head. He knows that in the shadow of SpaceX, $RKLB’s only path to survival is to become “The Ultimate Alternative” through vertical integration.

However, in capital markets, ambition must be redeemed by manufacturing yields and on-time launches. Until Neutron flies and Mynaric turns a profit, let’s remain clinical—tracking policy shifts and IPO cycles to capture profit gracefully in this interstellar capital war.

Disclaimer

Uncle Stock Notes welcomes all investment enthusiasts to participate.

SpaceX IPO

This is a public episode. Under-promise, Over-deliver

With the acquisitions we announced last week, we are adding significant revenue on top of the guidance we gave in January. 10:58 - 11:20I-Pulse、I-ROX、I-Mining。 我的電子郵件是 robert@ivanhoe.net。

This is a public episode. AMD

(No one solution fits all)。

This is a public episode.
