She has documented over 300 African stories across multiple continents, performed at The Moth Mainstage in New York, co-authored a book that archives the voices of survivors of sexual violence across East Africa, and directed her debut poetry film, HOME, which has already been screened to over 500 Kenyans.

Voices, the voice-talent platform behind 20+ years of casting work for agencies, has launched its third purpose-built AI offering this year: Voices for Agencies, pairing standard Voice Over casting with licensed Branded AI Voice production under one governance standard.

The company says its Branded AI Voice deals are up 167% year-over-year, with early adopter SuperBloom already using the model to extend a campaign voice into multiple languages.

Ghanaian Voice-Over Artists Urged to Digitise Their Voices for AI

MyJoyOnline reports that Ghanaian broadcaster and voice-over artist Jay Foley is encouraging Ghanaian voice artists to digitise their voices for the emerging AI voice economy.

His reasoning is notably about representation: AI systems currently struggle to accurately handle many Ghanaian names, expressions and languages, and Foley argues Ghanaian voice artists need to actively participate so their languages are properly represented, rather than being left out or mishandled by AI trained without them.

This opens a wider, unresolved conversation directly relevant to our voice talent: African voices, AI training, ownership, consent and compensation.

African Practitioners Just Drew the AI Line and Named the Three Things AI Dubbing Still Couldn’t Do

Broadcast Media Africa convened a webinar this month on production and distribution in the age of AI, and what came out of it wasn’t a forecast. It was people describing what actually happened when they tried.

Wanyoike described an AI dubbing pilot, moving content into another language. The technology could support the process. But human intervention remained necessary for delivery, tone and pitch. On a separate World Cup song project, the voice was still recorded in a studio, with significant human editing on top.

Spotify Will Label AI-Generated Artist Identities From Mid-September, And Default Them Out Of Recommendations.

From mid-September, Spotify will begin showing an “AI Persona” badge on artist profiles where the public identity appears to be AI-generated rather than a real person.

It’ll appear on the profile banner and About section, in Search, and on track rows in playlists. Artists could start self-disclosing from 11 August, and Spotify says it will also review and badge profiles itself, with notification and a right of appeal.

A disclosure label on its own is a small icon people scroll past. What changes behaviour is consequence. Recommendations are where most discovery happens, so cutting synthetic identities out of that surface removes most of the commercial incentive to pass a machine off as a person.

Spotify is testing a “Skip ahead” button that appears during podcast ads and sponsorship messages, encouraging listeners to bypass them, including ads Spotify has sold itself, and creators’ own pitches for premium subscriptions.

Given Spotify’s dominant share of podcast downloads in many markets, the move raises real questions for creators who monetize through Spotify-served ads or in-episode subscription asks. Separate Edison Research data shows Spotify leads the US podcast market by reach, though that figure may not capture how many listeners are actually hearing the ads once the skip tool rolls out further.

Voices Launches Voices for Agencies, Extending Branded AI Voice to Creative Agencies

Voices, the voice-talent platform behind 20+ years of casting work for agencies, has launched its third purpose-built AI offering this year: Voices for Agencies, pairing standard Voice Over casting with licensed Branded AI Voice production under one governance standard.

The company says its Branded AI Voice deals are up 167% year-over-year, with early adopter SuperBloom already using the model to extend a campaign voice into multiple languages.

Poetry Africa, Durban’s flagship poetry festival, now in its 30th year, has announced its 2026 guest lineup, bringing together voices from across the continent and beyond.

Netflix Announces First ScreenCraft Pathways Cohort of 14 Young South African Creatives

Netflix has announced the first 14 young South Africans selected for its inaugural ScreenCraft Pathways programme, a year-long initiative created in partnership with the Gauteng Film Commission and the KwaZulu-Natal Tourism and Film Authority.

The selected individuals will receive paid placements, mentorship, and hands-on experience across leading film, television, and post-production companies in South Africa.

Poetry Africa Festival is inviting South African poets to enter the 30th Poetry Africa Slam Jam Competition under the theme “Every Word a Street, Every Voice a City.”

The competition is open to poets aged 18–35 currently residing in South Africa and offers a platform to showcase original work on one of Africa’s leading poetry stages. The winning poet will receive a R20,000 cash prize, along with the opportunity to represent both Poetry Africa and South Africa at the Continental Slam Poetry Competition, with a pathway to the World Slam Poetry Competition.
