This past weekend I went back to my hometown Columbus Ohio, and was met with so much nostalgia.

For one, it had been years since I had been back in Columbus. And when I was last there - life looked a lot different.

7 years ago back in Cbus I was lowkey going through it. Parents had just divorced. Just graduated college without a clue knowing what I was doing. All my friends moved into big girl jobs and big girl apartments and I felt stuck - living in my childhood bedroom with my mom and a blog (yes, remember blogs? That just aged me for sure. And yet, here we are…)

But in that place of being in that childhood bedroom, and in that place where it was just truly me and God getting to know each other, He began to transform my heart. And make me a completely different human being.

And without that season - I would not be who I am and where I am today.

It was in this season where I learned how to read the Bible and let the Word of God transform the way I view the world.

It was in this season where I learned how to wake up early and create a morning routine I look forward to every single day.

It was in this season where I learned how to truly take care of my body and do at home workouts (lol I remember this so well - would listen to christian podcasts and learn and grow as I was in the beginning of my faith walk)

Even though God was doing a new work in me - it was still tempting for me to compare.

I especially remember comparing my life to everyone else’s on IG and feeling so dang insecure. It felt like God was moving everyone else’s lives further but mine just stayed the same, as I walked by my elementary school every day in my hometown. Nothing had changed. And I was left wondering what the heck God was doing in my own life and if the breakthrough would ever come.

It’s so funny how each day can look the same, for a very long time, and then all of a sudden, everything changes.

It’s easy to think that in these seasons where each day looks the same and the season doesn’t look like it’s every going to change… that it will stay like that forever. But it’s simply not the truth.

2 Peter 3:8 says:
"But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day.”

God can do anything, whenever He wants. He can flip your whole life around in an instant, no matter how many days have looked the same for you, and no matter how far the breakthrough seems.

We serve a God who makes beauty out of ashes - who loves to restore and bring life where things look dry and deserted.

Looking back on this season in Ohio, it felt so dang isolating and lonely — but God was writing a story much bigger than me.

He was developing me in the quiet place, shaping my hearts desires to match His, preparing me for what was to come.

He was helping me cherish time with family, that I wouldn’t get back.

He was helping me fall more in love with Him, leading me to eventually help others fall in love with Him, too.

He was teaching me to pray and hear His voice. And to enjoy time alone with just Him - where I would dance to worship music in my room like a literal crazy person without a care in the world. I had never done this before because I didn’t really ever have the space to.

And it was all preparing me for what was to come.

Little did I know what God had up His sleeves and the adventure that waited for me ahead.

Eventually, the breakthrough came.

In that childhood bedroom 7 years ago, I had no idea that I would be moving to Nashville just a year later. The first place I finally got plugged into a church family. The place I grew my faith with other believers. The place I took risks in my career and sowed into the gifts God had placed over my life.

And in that childhood bedroom 7 years ago, I had no idea I’d eventually be moving across the country to Los Angeles just a few years later, a big step of faith that changed the trajectory of my life. And where the journey is still unfolding… and while it has been a hard and challenging last two years, it has also been incredibly beautiful.

I had no idea that He was preparing me for all the adventures and the relationships and the new beginnings that lied ahead. I couldn’t see that when I compared my life with everyone else’s on IG… thinking He had forgotten about me. But God didn’t forget. And as lonely as I felt, He was by my side the entire time.

And my dear friend, today, you might be believing the same lies. And you might think that God has forgotten about you, too.

Just because something isn’t happening right now, doesn’t mean it’s never going to happen.

It’s so easy to believe the lie that because something is taking a very long time to happen… that it will not happen at all.

We give up things way too easily. But often it’s not a matter of IF something is going to happen… but it just not being the right time for that thing to happen.

What is so beautiful is that so many things and dreams God had placed on my heart 7 years ago, I have in the past few years unfold before my very eyes. Dreams and visions He gave me that I am just now seeing come to past.

The only caveat is… it took years. Not days or weeks or months, but years.

But as I look back on the timing of it all unfolding - I see that absolutely all of it came at the time it should have.

I am thankful for a God who knows better than me, and knows when things need to happen at the time they should.

I’m thankful for a God who knows what He’s doing with placing desires on our hearts only He can fulfill.

And I am thankful for a God who leaves no situation looking too hopeless for too long.

As I reflect on the last few years of promises kept and breakthrough He made happen, I can confidently say He is a restorer of ruins. A God who makes beauty out of ashes.

In your own life, there may be ashes you see. Brokenness in your midst. Prayers left unanswered, some prayers you’ve been praying for years and years and years with no breakthrough at all.

Maybe you feel like you keep reliving the same dang day and you’re wondering if and when things are ever going to change.

But just because something is not happening right now, does not mean it’s never going to happen.

And you may look back many years from now, and although it was a wild rollercoaster of a ride, and although it may not have gone exactly the way you planned… you’ll be able to look back on all that God has done. And you’ll smile, knowing that He did know what was best all along. And His timing, nothing could beat. <3

I distinctly remember writing short stories that honestly made no sense, for hours on end, but I came alive writing them. God bless my mother who just let me go and fill journals upon journals about fairies and whatever the heck my 6 year old self wanted to write about. But even though a lot of these short stories didn’t make much sense, God was developing something in me before I ever even knew Him.

So when I gave my life to Jesus, these short stories that I liked to write eventually turned into a desire to write about Him. And to use this love for pen and paper to help people grow closer to Jesus and truly become all who He created them to be.

I distinctly remember being in the later years of high school and perusing the Christian book section at Barnes and Noble - each week gravitating towards a different book that would help me in my walk with Jesus.

Since I literally did not know anything about God and faith and what it looked like to follow Him, many of these authors served as important mentors for me, teaching me what it looks like to truly surrender my life to Him and be transformed from the inside out.

As I reflect on the way these authors have made a difference in my life, I know just how valuable spaces like this are.

Spaces where vulnerability is celebrated and wisdom is shared. Where you can talk about the real issues and challenges we all face as christians, even though we wouldn’t like to admit it. Spaces where we can talk about being a woman but also being in this world and knowing how to love God in the midst of it.

And I know I cannot be the only one who literally did not have a clue on how to follow the Lord and would love more than anything to have a big sis to help her not make the same mistakes that she did.

So as we look ahead to this beautiful space together, my prayer is that it can serve as a space where you can hear words from a big sis, where you hear words from your Heavenly Father, and where you know that at the end of the day, you are simply not alone.

So with all this being said, and before we even get started… allow me to introduce myself (if we haven’t met on any other platform <3 ).

Hellooooo there, I’m Ashley.

I am 28 years old. But I literally don’t feel like it. I live in Los Angeles, California, and I absolutely love it — even though I swore I would never live in LA. It’s funny how whenever you say you’ll never do something - God laughs.

I love Jesus with all of my heart that sometimes it makes me cry. I gave my life to the Lord around 10 years ago, lived a lukewarm life for around 4 years, then officially went all in after college. And I am so glad I did. We’ll talk more about going all in later posts, but the long story short is that God has changed my life, He has transformed me from the inside out, and He has helped me understand what life is truly all about.

I believe the Word of God is the most beautiful book ever, even though it used to be the most boring book ever to me. I would not be who I am without reading this book every day for the last couple of years (even if it is just for 5 mins…)

I have a faith and fitness app called TreeFit that I launched in June. I have a deep passion for bridging the gap between faith and fitness and believe every girl should have a morning routine with the Lord that she looks up to.

I have been creating content online for the last 5 years. My fav platform by far is YouTube, where I’ve been creating videos for the last 4 years. Through manyyyy ups and downs, I have stayed with it and go back to my mission of helping women grow closer to God and become who He created them to be.

I have written two books. One is a devo about being in a waiting season and trusting God in your in-between. The other is about developing habits to help you become a woman of God. I don’t pretend to know anything really special but the Lord has been so kind to help me use my mistakes and my experience to help other girls going through the same thing.

I would say I am not addicted to coffee but I would be very, very sad if I did not have my cup for the day.

I love my friends so much and would not who I am without the women in my life who have helped shape my faith and my walk with God.

I love my family so much and am sooo close w both my mama and dad.

I have failed many times.

I have made so many mistakes and many of these has cost me - but I am so grateful the Lord has humbled me and continues to teach me. It shows how much He loves me.

I struggle with feeling like I need to be perfect all the time and am often very hard on myself.

I struggle to really trust God and surrender everything to Him. I really love having control and the Lord has had to continue to root this outta me.

I have had nights where I was so drunk and stupid that I made decisions I wish I could go back and change.

I have had nights where I have been intimate with people who I didn’t really know well and they didn’t really know me, and even though it seemed as if it would make me feel better it actually made me feel worse. And I can’t go back and change that.

I have watched many of my best friends get married without a man by my side.

I have lost people I thought would be in my life forever, and it has crushed me.

Even after all my years of following Jesus, I still struggle to know how to walk as a woman of God and to live set apart in a world where sometimes, I just want to fit in and choose what’s easy.

I care a lot about what people think and have let hate comments get to me and make me doubt the calling God has for me and the dreams He has put in my heart.

There have been so many times where I have wanted to stop following God and just go my own way - bc it just got too hard and doing things His way was taking way too long.

And tbh, every part of me doesn’t want to share all this with you today. <3

But hey, who wants to follow perfect? I know I don’t.

Let’s begin this beautiful journey, together

My dear friend, there’s so many things I have not gotten right in my life. There’s so many things the Lord is continuing to teach me. And there’s so many things I wish I could go back and do different.

But I hope that this beautiful space can help you understand and know that though this life can be difficult, Jesus and His grace is what we need to get through it. And to not only get through it… but to thrive, and to help others know Him too.

There’s truly nothing better than a life surrendered to God — and I confidently say that after choosing a life where He was not at the center.

Together, we get to walk hand in hand, knowing that we are loved by God. We are chosen by Him. We are freaking princesses, for crying out loud, bc our Father is a King. And we get to be a light in a world that so very much needs it.

So here’s to this journey of choosing Him in a world where it’s not always easy - but it is always worth it.
