🌞 A bounce house for your home

I am going to be honest, I was skeptical. A bounce house for the house felt like a lot. But then we got one, and now I can’t imagine a weekend without it.

When we have no plans, we just blow it up, order a pizza and it becomes the best day ever for our toddler. The kids go completely feral for it and they are entertained for hours. It is the summer investment that pays for itself!

If you have kids who have energy to burn and you want a go to summer activity that lives in your garage and takes about 5 minutes to set up, this is it. We could not recommend it more.

🌮 Make Your Own Tacos

Ingredients (serves ~4):

• 1 lb ground beef

• 1 packet taco seasoning

• Taco shells (hard or soft)

• 1 cup shredded cheese

• 1 cup shredded lettuce

• 1–2 tomatoes, diced

• Sour cream

• Salsa or guacamole

Instructions:

1. Cook the beef
   Heat a pan over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks (about 5–7 min). Drain excess grease.

2. Add seasoning
   Stir in taco seasoning + water. Simmer for 3–5 minutes until thickened.

3. Prep toppings
   While the beef cooks, set out all toppings in small bowls.

4. Warm shells
   Heat taco shells according to package (oven or microwave).

5. Build your tacos
   Let everyone assemble their own-beef, toppings, done.

Melanie lives in the Carthay Square area of Mid-City with her husband Leo and their daughter Ruby- born July 3rd and currently nine months old and crawling her way through life.

Club Joyful is hosting a Mini Masters Tournament & Brunch and it is exactly the kind of drop-in weekend morning we love to see- kids practicing their putting on mini greens, light crafting, breakfast bites, and the Masters playing on the TV.

Best for: Toddlers and kids ages 1.5–6 who love movement and anything that feels like a game. Zero golf experience required - the tiny putters alone are worth the trip. There will also be crafts available for the kids with little interest in golf.

Popsical is a kid-friendly classical concert experience featuring live music, playful visuals, and hands-on activities where little ones can move, play, and explore. Popsical was created by violinist Ariana, who grew up literally surrounded by a string quartet and built this experience to share the magic of live music with children and families everywhere. Beautiful, intimate, and genuinely unlike anything else out there for this age group.

Best for: Babies through kids age 5 - the younger the better honestly. Kids can move around freely which makes it enjoyable for the whole age range.

4. 🎬 🐾 My Neighbor Totoro @ Vidiots

If that rain actually shows up on Saturday this is your entire afternoon planned. My Neighbor Totoro on the big screen at Vidiots in Eagle Rock( the English dubbed version) is honestly one of the coziest, most magical ways to spend a rainy afternoon with your little one. If this is your child’s first time at the movies- this is THE one to start with. Gentle, joyful, zero scary moments, and so visually stunning that even the most wiggly toddler will be completely locked in. Vidiots is also one of the most special independent cinemas in LA which will makes the whole experience feel extra special.

Best for: Kids ages 2.5 and up (depending on your nap schedule). Totoro is gentle, joyful, and has zero scary moments which makes it a perfect first cinema experience for toddlers. The forest spirits and the Catbus are going to absolutely blow their tiny minds.

Benefits: A special rainy day activity and great first movie experience.

Commitment level: Worth making the drive and committing to - this is a revolve-your-afternoon-around-it situation, Grab lunch in Eagle Rock before or an early dinner after and make it an afternoon out.

5. 🚗 Breakfast Club Cruise-In @ The Petersen Automotive Museum

April 12 | 9am-12pm | 6060 Wilshire Blvd
Okay parents with car loving kids, this one is for you. The Petersen’s monthly Breakfast Club Cruise-In is back. Free coffee and bagels are included, the lot is packed with incredible cars from classics to modern favorites, and the whole vibe is relaxed, community-driven and makes for a great morning out.

Best for: Kids ages 3 and up who are obsessed with cars, trucks and anything with wheels - this is their version of a theme park and they will be absolutely mesmerized walking through rows of seriously cool rides.

The vibe: This one is all about the fun and bonding - walking around together pointing at cool cars, letting your little one be genuinely amazed at the variety of vehicles, and enjoying a relaxed outdoor morning as a family. For some indoor fun and jic of rain, there is a kids playroom inside the museum full of hands-on car related fun. Also a great place to give your little one a bottle or feeding if needed. There are also a few interactive exhibits within the museum (a Lightning McQueen your kids can touch and take photos with & a Mr. Brainwash exhibit with some fun interactive pieces).

Commitment level: This is a easy yes - spectator entry is completely free, parking is complimentary until 11am, and it is right on Wilshire. Come for an hour or stay for the whole morning- totally flexible and low pressure.

6. 🎵 ☕ Free Music Class @ Paper or Plastik Café

A free 45 minute music class at a coffee shop on a Sunday morning- music to our ears! Teacher Yi - songwriter and music educator - leads kids through a live play-along session with rhythm instruments and movement in the warm and welcoming space of Paper or Plastik Café. Your little one gets to bang on things and call it music education while you drink a coffee in a cute café setting.

Best for: Toddlers and kids ages 1–5 who love music, movement and making noise-honestly the louder the better for this one. A Great first introduction to live music and instruments for babies and young toddlers too.

Benefits: This one is a beautiful mix of bonding, sensory fun and socializing - kids get to play instruments alongside other kids which is so sweet to watch, and parents get to connect with other local families in a relaxed setting. The kind of Sunday morning activity that fills everyone’s cup

7. 🎨 Superpower Portraits: Collage Workshop @ The Getty Center

This free drop-in family workshop invites kids and parents to create Superpower Portraits using collage techniques and recycled materials - layering colors, patterns, textures and images that reflect their strengths and story. Then everyone’s portraits come together into a collective community wall led by artist Willie Thomas. It is part art class & part community experience.

Best for: Kids ages 3 and up who love arts & crafts and getting a little messy with their hands. All supplies are provided so you just show up. The drop-in format means you can stay for 20 minutes or the full four hours - totally up to you and your toddler’s attention span.

Benefits: This one is a mix of bonding and creative fun- doing something meaningful together with your child while also being surrounded by other families doing the same. The collective portrait wall element makes it feel very meaningful- your kid’s work becomes part of something bigger. Also presented in both English and Spanish for our bilingual families!
