That’s enough.

I don’t know what happens when we die.

Neither do you. None of us do.

Maybe there’s another existence.

Maybe we come back.

Maybe this whole thing is stranger than anything we’re capable of understanding.

Maybe this is it. I don’t know.

And somehow we’ve built entire lives pretending that we do.

I don’t want the uncertainty of death to make me afraid of living.

I want it to make me participate. That’s different.

I want to taste my food. Call my people. Go somewhere I’ve never been. Make the ridiculous thing. Tell somebody I love them. Wear the dress. Start the company. Help somebody. Dance badly. Change my mind. Laugh until my stomach hurts. Be disappointed. Recover. Fall in love with another version of myself. Actually be here. Be so present that all you know is now.

Because whatever comes after this, I know one thing:

This is the only version of this moment I’m getting.

And then I saw something that broke my heart.

I recently watched Sadhguru speak about people connected to his foundation who had been affected by catastrophic flash flood in Nepal.

And I just sat with it.

Because while we’re building careers and planning vacations and figuring out what we’re wearing and worrying about our algorithms...

there is somebody somewhere experiencing the worst day of their life.

There are people hurting across the world.

Families grieving.

People displaced.

People experiencing violence.

People waking up into realities most of us couldn’t imagine living through.

And I don’t say that to make you feel guilty for having a beautiful life.

Please have the beautiful life.

That’s the point.

But don’t sleepwalk through it.

Don’t have access to love and never give it.

Don’t have a voice and never use it.

Don’t have community and never contribute to it.

Don’t have another morning and spend the entire thing wishing you were already somewhere else.

Awareness shouldn’t make us guilty for our joy. It should make us responsible for it.

We have turned being human into a performance.

Career. Status. Followers. Money. Beauty. Productivity. Fame. Achievement. Optimize this. Monetize that. Scale this. Perfect that. Even our hobbies need business plans now.

At what point did simply experiencing your own existence become insufficient?

I love ambition. I love money. I love beautiful things. I love building.

I want an extraordinary life. But I’ma be real with you none of those things are the point if I have to sacrifice my ability to experience my life to obtain them.

Because fame isn’t freedom. Money can create freedom, but money itself isn’t freedom.

Status isn’t freedom. Being admired isn’t freedom. Freedom is being able to inhabit your own life. To know yourself. To make decisions because they’re yours. To love without constantly measuring. To create without needing applause. To sit somewhere beautiful and not immediately think about how it photographs. To have enough internal peace that your life doesn’t need an audience before it feels valuable.

That, to me, is wealth.

SUCCESS WITHOUT PRESENCE

IS JUST ANOTHER FORM OF ABSENCE.

Maybe the goal isn’t to win at life.

Maybe it’s to dance with it.

Because we’re constantly getting in the boxing ring with life.

Fighting reality. Fighting timing. Fighting ourselves. Fighting other people.

Trying to force everything into the shape we decided it needed to have.

And life keeps life-ing.

There will be fucked-up days. There will be heartbreak. There will be uncertainty.

There will be moments when you have absolutely no idea what comes next.

You cannot engineer all of that away.

So maybe resilience isn’t learning how to defeat life.

Maybe resilience is learning how to move with it without losing yourself.

We’re not trying to perfect being human over here. is this going?

And God forbid you’re good at more than one thing.

Now you have twelve possible lives sitting in front of you and choosing one feels like you’re killing the other eleven.

So you don’t choose. You research. You plan. You watch somebody explain how they did it. Then someone else tells you the opposite. So you research that.

Meanwhile, there’s an entire economy online built around selling certainty.

Here’s exactly how to make $10K a month. Here’s the exact career you should choose. Here’s the exact morning routine successful people use. Here’s exactly what you need to do next.

Girl.

They’re figuring it out too!

The blind are leading the blind. Pick up some shades and GOOOO.

Here’s what I think actually happens:

We wait for clarity because we believe clarity will protect us from making the wrong decision. But the information required to become clear often exists on the other side of the decision. You can’t know whether you enjoy entrepreneurship by thinking harder about entrepreneurship.

You have to build something. You can’t completely know whether you belong in a city you’ve never lived in. You have to go. You can’t know whether you’re good on camera by planning your content strategy for six months.

Turn the camera on.

You can’t know whether an idea works before reality has had the opportunity to respond to it. Action produces data.

That’s why some people seem to “figure life out” faster. It isn’t necessarily because they’re smarter. They simply collect more evidence.

They try. They learn. They adjust. They try again.

ACTION → INFORMATION → CLARITY → DIRECTION

Not the other way around.

You have to trial before you can error.

We love saying “trial and error.”

But everybody wants to skip the trial. We want proof that the business will succeed before we build it. We want confirmation that the career is our calling before pursuing it. We want to know the relationship will last before surrendering to it. We want guarantees from a life that has never offered them.

Sometimes you have to:

Try.

Be bad.

Get better.

Realize you’re good.

Realize you hate it.

Quit.

Try something else.

Fail.

Get embarrassed.

Try again.

Make money.

Lose some.

Change your mind.

Change it again.

Again. Again. Again.

That’s not evidence you’re failing at life.

Baby.

That is life.

But being multi-passionate doesn’t mean doing everything at once.

This is where I think some of the “follow all your passions” advice loses me.

Because yes, you can be many things.

I clearly have been. But trying to become all of them simultaneously can leave you mediocre at all of them. At some point, you have to choose.

Not forever. For now.

That’s why I’ve started thinking about focus differently.

Focus is seasonal, not permanent.

Read that again.

Choosing one direction today doesn’t mean signing a lifetime contract with it. It means:

This deserves my concentrated energy in this season.

If you’re a singer?

Sing.

If you’re great at hair?

Do hair.

If you’re a model?

Model.

If you want to travel?

Go travel.

If you’re great at creating content?

Create the damn content.

Give something enough attention to actually become good at it.

Because focus creates momentum. And momentum creates options.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" Your first thing doesn’t have to be your final thing. I learned communication. Storytelling. Marketing. Audience psychology. Branding. Business. Negotiation. Community. What makes people pay attention. What makes people trust you. What happens when I listen to myself. And what happens when I don’t. Those skills didn’t expire when my priorities changed.

They compounded.

That’s the mistake we make when we look at someone’s career and see a bunch of unrelated chapters.

Often, they’re not unrelated at all.

They’re stacking.

The model taught the host.

The host taught the creator.

The creator taught the entrepreneur.

The entrepreneur informs the humanitarian.

The relationships taught the woman.

And the woman carries all of it.

I wasn’t starting over every time.

I was starting again with more information.

That’s completely different.

Your life doesn’t need to look linear to become extraordinary.

The Intentional Woman is about building a life deliberately—money, relationships, work, identity, ambition and all the messy parts nobody can perfectly plan.

Stop asking, “What should I do with my life?”

I think that’s too big a question.

Try:

What deserves my focus in this season?

That’s answerable.

Maybe the answer is your career.

Maybe it’s your health.

Maybe it’s motherhood.

Maybe it’s traveling.

Maybe it’s building the business.

Maybe it’s making money.

Maybe it’s falling in love.

Maybe it’s rebuilding yourself after everything went sideways.

Pick something.

And actually be there.

You can pivot. Now I think the goal is to stop having so many of them because every time you leave something important up for negotiation, you give your current mood a vote in the life you’re trying to build and let me tell you babe your mood is not always qualified to vote.

I think we misunderstand discipline.

We tend to imagine a disciplined woman as someone with extraordinary willpower.

She gets up early because she’s disciplined.

She works out because she’s disciplined.

She manages her money because she’s disciplined.

She has boundaries because she’s disciplined.

She works toward her goals even when she doesn’t feel like it because she’s disciplined.

But I’ve started looking at it differently.

Maybe she isn’t constantly exercising more willpower than everyone else.

Maybe she has simply made more decisions in advance.

There is a difference.

One woman wakes up every morning and asks herself whether she feels like working out.

Another already decided she works out Monday through Friday.

One woman gets paid and then decides how much she can afford to save after everything else.

Another decided that a percentage of every dollar she earns belongs to her future before the money ever reaches her spending account.

One woman decides how much disrespect she’ll tolerate depending on how much she likes someone.

Another already decided what access to her requires.

The second woman doesn’t necessarily have more discipline.

She has fewer negotiations.

And I think that distinction can change your life.

Every repeated decision is costing you something.

Decision fatigue sounds like one of those phrases we throw around without thinking about what it actually looks like.

But look at how many decisions you make before noon.

What time should I get up?

What should I wear?

What should I eat?

Should I check my phone?

Should I answer this message?

Should I work out?

What should I work on first?

Should I buy this?

Should I say yes?

Should I say no?

Should I go?

Should I stay?

Should I start tomorrow?

None of these decisions individually feels life-changing.

But your life is largely the accumulation of them.

And when the important ones are constantly being decided in real time, you become vulnerable to convenience.

That’s dangerous because convenience is very persuasive in the moment.

Ten more minutes of sleep feels insignificant.

Skipping one workout feels insignificant.

Spending $70 you meant to save feels insignificant.

Allowing someone to cross one boundary feels insignificant.

Putting the business idea off another week feels insignificant.

Until you zoom out.

A year is filled with seemingly insignificant decisions.

So is a completely different life.

Some things should become policies.

This is one of the biggest changes I’ve made in the way I think about intentional living.

There are things in my life I don’t want to decide anymore.

I want policies.

Not rigid rules that make life miserable. Not some hyper-optimized existence where every minute has been scheduled and spontaneity disappears.

Personal policies.

Decisions I’ve made while I’m clearheaded about the kind of life I want, so I don’t have to remake them when I’m tired, emotional, distracted, tempted or afraid.

A policy might be:

I don’t spend money earmarked for savings.

I don’t say yes immediately when I need time to think.

I move my body even when the workout isn’t perfect.

I don’t repeatedly explain a boundary.

I don’t start my morning consuming everyone else’s thoughts before I’ve had one of my own.

I don’t abandon something important because the first version isn’t impressive.

I don’t make permanent decisions from temporary emotions.

Notice what happens when something becomes a policy.

The question changes.

Instead of:

“What do I feel like doing?”

it becomes:

“What have I already decided?”

That is a completely different way to move through life.

Try this: Decide once. Create the rule. Build the system. Stop renegotiating.

There are four steps I want you to experiment with this week.

1. Decide once.

Choose something you keep struggling with because you’re constantly making the same decision.

Maybe it’s saving.

Maybe it’s your morning.

Maybe it’s exercise.

Maybe it’s dating.

Maybe it’s how much time you give your phone.

Maybe it’s finally building the thing you’ve been talking about building.

Ask yourself:

If I were making this decision from the perspective of the woman I want to become, what would I decide?

Not what would be easiest today.

Not what would make everyone around you comfortable.

What would she decide?

Decide from there.

2. Create the rule.

Turn your decision into something clear enough that you can’t conveniently reinterpret it later.

“I want to save more” is not a rule.

“10% of everything I earn gets transferred before I spend” is.

“I want better boundaries” isn’t a rule.

“If someone repeatedly ignores a boundary after I’ve communicated it clearly, I remove access” is.

“I want to work on my business more” isn’t a rule.

“The first hour of Tuesday and Thursday mornings belongs to my business” is.

Ambiguity creates negotiation.

Specificity removes it.

3. Build the system.

Your environment should help you keep promises to yourself.

Automate the transfer.

Put the workout on the calendar.

Prepare tomorrow tonight.

Delete the app.

Put the book next to the bed.

Create the recurring work block.

Stop depending on the most exhausted version of yourself to make the smartest possible choice.

Make the right decision easier to execute.

4. Stop renegotiating.

This may be the hardest part.

Because your old habits are excellent attorneys.

They will present compelling arguments.

You worked hard today.

You can start next week.

It’s only this once.

Maybe you’re being too strict.

You deserve it.

Sometimes those arguments will even be right. Life requires flexibility.

But flexibility and constantly abandoning your own standards are not the same thing.

Before you make an exception, ask:

Has the situation actually changed, or am I just uncomfortable following through?

That question will tell you a lot.

Your standards should carry you when motivation can’t.

I don’t believe your highest self is some perfect woman waiting at the end of an endless self-improvement project.

I think you meet her in very ordinary moments.

When nobody is watching.

When breaking the promise would be easier.

When the purchase is tempting.

When the alarm rings.

When the boundary gets tested.

When the excitement wears off.

When you have to choose between the immediate reward and the life you said you wanted.

Those moments rarely feel transformational while you’re inside them.

But they are.

Because eventually your repeated decisions become your standards.

Your standards become your habits.

Your habits become your normal.

And one day you look around and realize you aren’t trying so hard to become her anymore.

You simply live differently.

That’s why I don’t think you need to wake up tomorrow and suddenly become 10 times more disciplined.

Start smaller.

Find one decision you’re tired of making.

Make it tonight.

Make it well.

And then give yourself permission to stop discussing it.

If you’re building a life with more intention, not just one that looks good from the outside, subscribe to The Intentional Woman. Every time I’ve gone, a different version of me has been waiting there.

The first time I visited was in 2020.

I was in love.

Back then, Thailand became the backdrop for one chapter of my life.

Then I went back in 2021.

Again in 2022.

And then in 2023.

Each trip carried a different version of me.

Some versions were dreaming.

Some were building.

Some were healing without even realizing they needed to.

When my relationship ended in 2023, I don’t think I realized how much of myself had quietly changed.

Not because Thailand had taken anything from me.

And not because that relationship defined my life.

But heartbreak has a way of making you question the woman you were before it happened.

Life kept moving.

I kept moving.

I built businesses.

I traveled the world.

I smiled.

I laughed.

I healed.

Or at least I thought I had.

Healing has a funny way of working.

Sometimes it’s loud.

Sometimes it’s so quiet you don’t even realize it’s happening until one day you wake up and notice you’ve become someone new.

So when I booked another trip back to Thailand this year, I wasn’t looking for closure.

I wasn’t trying to relive old memories.

I wasn’t searching for myself.

Honestly, I was just excited to return to one of my favorite places in the world.

Then I landed.

The moment I stepped off the plane in Bangkok, something shifted.

Not around me.

Inside me.

There was this heaviness sitting in my chest that I couldn’t explain.

It wasn’t fear.

It wasn’t excitement.

It felt like my spirit knew something my mind hadn’t caught up to yet.

I remember calling my best friend before I even left the airport.

“I don’t know what’s wrong,” I told her.

“Something feels off.”

Nothing had happened.

I had literally just landed.

But my intuition was louder than usual.

I’ve learned that when God whispers, I don’t always need to understand why. I just need to pay attention.

At the time, I questioned whether I should’ve even come. My family had been telling me not to travel because of everything happening around the world, and for a brief moment I wondered if maybe they were right.

Looking back now, I don’t think that feeling had anything to do with danger.

I think I was standing at the beginning of a transformation.

I just didn’t know it yet.

My best friend picked me up, and before I even had a chance to unpack, she wanted to go celebrate Songkran, Thailand’s New Year festival.

If you’ve never been, imagine thousands of people filling the streets with giant water guns, music, laughter, and absolute chaos.

It looked incredible.

But something inside me kept saying,

Don’t go.

I told her I wasn’t feeling it.

She convinced me anyway.

So I ignored my intuition.

Twenty minutes later, someone stole my camera.

Not my phone.

Not my wallet.

My camera.

The expensive one.

The one that held videos of my grandfather.

Conversations with my dad.

Video diaries I had made for myself over the years.

The camera could be replaced.

Those memories couldn’t.

I remember sitting there thinking,

“I’ve only been here a few hours. How could this trip already be falling apart?”

Then somehow...

It got worse.

I had booked an appointment to get my braids taken down and my hair washed.

Before booking, I specifically asked if they knew how to work with 4B hair.

They assured me they did.

Halfway through washing my hair, the stylist stopped.

She looked at me and said,

“I can’t do your hair.”

I honestly thought she was joking.

She wasn’t.

Then she told me she couldn’t even blow dry it because it would take too long and she had another client waiting.

So there I was.

Standing in a salon in another country with soaking wet hair, trying not to panic.

I ended up blow drying it myself with equipment that wasn’t made for my hair texture, praying I wasn’t about to damage years of growth.

I left frustrated.

Embarrassed.

Exhausted.

At that point, I honestly thought,

“Maybe I should’ve stayed home.”

The next day wasn’t much better.

I traveled almost an hour across Bangkok for another hair appointment I found on TikTok.

She told me it would take six hours.

It took fourteen.

Fourteen.

The hair I paid extra for shed everywhere.

I missed another day of Songkran.

Nothing was going according to plan.

But somewhere between losing my camera, blowing out my own hair, and sitting in that salon for fourteen hours...

I remembered something my best friend had taught me.

Or maybe I should say, something she lived.

I call it The Big Dog Theory.

Before my best friend moved to Thailand, she was bitten by a dog.

It shook her.

She almost gave up on moving altogether.

She had every reason to stay home.

Every reason to let fear convince her that maybe Thailand wasn’t meant for her.

But she kept going.

Today, she’s living the life she once prayed for.

She’s built an incredible career.

Worked with amazing brands.

Written a book.

Created a life that would’ve never existed if she had stopped because of one painful moment.

Watching her taught me something.

Sometimes the greatest resistance shows up right before the greatest breakthrough.

Whether you see that as spiritual, psychological, or simply part of pursuing something meaningful, I’ve found it to be true more often than not.

So I made a decision.

I wasn’t going to let one bad day define my entire trip.

I was going to keep showing up.

And somewhere along the way...

Everything changed.

I started taking care of myself in ways I hadn’t before.

I had one of the most thorough health checkups of my life.

Blood work.

Dental work.

Women’s health appointments.

Brain scans.

Spine scans.

I got facials.

Body treatments.

Found an amazing wax specialist.

Finally found someone who understood my lashes.

My skin started glowing.

My body felt lighter.

I wasn’t trying to escape my life.

I was investing in it.

Then we traveled.

Pattaya.

Back to Bangkok.

Bali.

And somewhere in the middle of all of it...

I realized I wasn’t becoming someone new.

I was remembering who I already was.

Bali gave me another reminder.

I unexpectedly ran into a friend from Los Angeles.

We’ve known each other for years.

Always just friends.

We spent an evening talking, laughing, dancing, and simply enjoying each other’s company.

Years ago, I probably would’ve confused attention with connection.

I might’ve ignored my own boundaries because I didn’t want the night to end.

But this version of me was different.

I knew exactly what I wanted this season to be.

I wanted peace.

I wanted clarity.

I wanted to honor the promises I’d made to myself before I ever got on that plane.

So I did.

Not because he wasn’t wonderful.

He was.

But because I had finally learned that respecting yourself isn’t about rejecting other people.

It’s about choosing yourself when it matters.

The rest of my trip became one long conversation with God.

I took myself to dinner.

I wandered through beautiful streets alone.

I spent hours at the spa.

I journaled.

I prayed.

I listened.

I stopped rushing.

I let silence teach me things that noise never could.

By the time I met back up with my best friend before flying home, we laughed, we cried, we prayed, and we thanked God for everything He had carried us through.

Not just the victories.

The disappointments too.

Because sometimes the disappointments are the very things that redirect us toward the life we’re actually meant to live.

People ask me all the time why I travel so much.

They think it’s because I love beautiful hotels.

Fine dining.

Luxury experiences.

And yes, I love all of those things.

But that’s never been why I travel.

I travel because every place teaches me something about myself.

Some places remind me to slow down.

Some places challenge me.

Some places stretch me.

And every now and then...

A place gives me something back that I didn’t even realize I’d lost.

Thailand did that for me.

Not because I went there searching for myself.

Because I had finally become the woman who was ready to receive herself again.

I don’t think I left pieces of myself in Thailand.

I think God used Thailand, over and over again, as the place where He introduced me to the next version of who I was becoming.

If there’s one thing I hope you take from my story, it’s this:

Trust your intuition.

Honor your boundaries.

Keep going when the beginning feels messy.

Don’t let one bad day convince you that the entire journey is ruined.

Sometimes your breakthrough is waiting on the other side of the day that almost made you quit.

Sometimes the place you return to isn’t there to remind you of who you were.

It’s there to introduce you to who you’ve become.

With love,

AuJené

Stop Waiting to Feel length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

There are opportunities I would have missed if I waited until I felt qualified enough to take them.

This week gave me another reminder.

I received an audition for a project that asked whether I could skateboard. Now, can I skateboard? Technically. Am I about to be competing professionally? Absolutely not. But I wasn’t going to eliminate myself before anyone else even had the opportunity to consider me.

So I found a skateboard shop, walked inside, explained that I was an actor who needed to film an audition, and asked if I could borrow a skateboard for a few minutes. They said yes. I filmed it. The footage wasn’t perfect. I submitted it anyway.

And then I got put on hold for the project.

I laughed when I found out because the entire experience reminded me of something I’ve had to learn repeatedly: sometimes the biggest obstacle between you and an opportunity is your need to feel ready before you allow yourself to be seen.

Women are constantly told to become more confident, but nobody really explains how. “Believe in yourself.” “Know your worth.” “Be confident.” Okay. But what does that actually look like when you’re sitting in front of an application you’re not completely qualified for? When you’re considering increasing your prices? When you want to introduce yourself to someone important? When you’re thinking about starting the business? When an opportunity appears that feels slightly bigger than the woman you believe yourself to be?

That’s when confidence has to become something more than an affirmation.

I don’t believe confidence comes primarily from repeatedly telling yourself you’re amazing. I think confidence comes from collecting evidence that you can trust yourself.

You said you would wake up early, and you did. You said you would finish the project, and you did. You said you would leave the situation that wasn’t serving you, and you did. You said you would save the money, and you did. You said you would walk into the room, and you did.

Every time you keep a promise to yourself, you make another deposit into what I call your Self-Trust Account. Every time you repeatedly promise yourself something and don’t follow through, you make a withdrawal.

That’s why confidence and discipline are much more connected than people realize.

The woman who trusts herself moves differently. Not because she believes she will always win, but because she knows she can handle herself if she doesn’t.

Real confidence isn’t “I know this will work.” It’s “Whether this works or not, I know what I’m going to do next.”

That is freedom.

There’s another rule I think more women should practice. If an opportunity is aligned with where you’re going and you’re reasonably capable of handling it, stop requiring yourself to feel 100% ready before raising your hand. Obviously, I’m not talking about bluffing your way into medicine, law, financial advising, or anything requiring credentials, expertise, or responsibility for someone else’s safety. I’m talking about the opportunities where the primary thing separating you from action is, I’ve never done this exact thing before.

Good.

There was a first time for almost everything you’re currently good at.

You probably hadn’t done your current job before somebody first trusted you to do it. You weren’t born knowing how to negotiate, lead, sell, create, speak publicly, manage money, build a business, or navigate your career. At some point, somebody gave you—or you gave yourself—permission to be a beginner.

And this is where women have to stop rejecting themselves on other people’s behalf.

Read the opportunity. Understand the requirements. Be truthful about your capabilities. Then let them decide whether you’re qualified.

Stop doing the rejection for them.

If there are ten qualifications and you meet eight, why are you automatically deciding the remaining two mean you don’t belong there? Submit it. Let them say no. Pitch it. Let them decline. Ask. Let them answer. Audition. Let casting decide. Negotiate. Let them counter.

You don’t need to protect yourself from every possible rejection.

Because every time you reject yourself first, you’re guaranteeing the exact outcome you’re afraid somebody else might give you.

I also think every ambitious woman should have what I call an Opportunity Portfolio. Open your Notes app and create one. Start paying attention to opportunities in four categories: what you’re ready for now, what would stretch you, what you need to build toward, and what feels almost ridiculous to imagine today.

The first category is simple: what are you already qualified to pursue right now? Jobs, clients, partnerships, auditions, speaking opportunities, collaborations, investments, whatever makes sense for your life. The second category should make you slightly uncomfortable. These are opportunities that feel bigger but are still realistically within reach. That’s probably where a lot of your growth lives.

Then there are the opportunities you’re genuinely not qualified for yet. Instead of turning that into insecurity, turn it into information. What exactly is missing? A certification? A stronger portfolio? More experience? Capital? A particular skill? Better relationships? A larger audience? Write it down. Suddenly the dream isn’t some vague thing you “hope” happens. It’s a development plan.

And finally, write down the things that feel almost ridiculous right now. The company you want to build. The income you want to earn. The room you want to enter. The country you want to live in. The person you want to become. Not because writing something down magically makes it happen, but because naming a destination changes what you begin noticing along the way.

I want you to do something else too: create a Proof File.

Make a folder on your phone or computer and start collecting evidence. Compliments from clients. Great performance reviews. Screenshots of results. Projects you’ve completed. Degrees. Certifications. Press. Messages from people you’ve helped. Revenue milestones. Fitness milestones. Problems you’ve solved. Difficult things you’ve survived. Anything that demonstrates your ability.

This isn’t an ego folder. It’s an evidence folder.

Because insecurity has terrible memory.

It will convince you that you’ve never accomplished anything while you’re literally standing on top of everything you’ve already accomplished.

Before an interview, negotiation, pitch, difficult season, or new level, go look at your proof. Remind yourself who is actually entering the room.

I also don’t believe fear deserves unlimited time to negotiate with your future. When an aligned opportunity appears and the main things stopping you are the possibility of failing, looking stupid, hearing no, or feeling uncomfortable, give yourself a deadline to make the first move. Maybe that’s 24 hours. Send the email. Submit the application. Respond to the opportunity. Make the introduction. Register. Pitch. Take one measurable action.

Because hesitation compounds too.

The longer you stare at something, the more opportunities your brain has to manufacture reasons you shouldn’t do it.

Sometimes movement needs to happen before fear finishes its presentation.

But let me be very clear about something: preparation still matters.

Confidence without preparation can become delusion, and I don’t want women walking around believing they can manifest competence they haven’t developed.

Prepare. Study. Practice. Research. Build your skills. Get the certification when one is necessary. Ask questions. Find mentors. Learn from people who are better than you. Take your craft seriously.

But learn the difference between preparation and hiding.

Preparation eventually produces action.

Hiding continuously moves the finish line.

“I’ll launch after one more course.”

“I’ll apply when my résumé is perfect.”

“I’ll start posting when my content looks better.”

“I’ll start dating when my body changes.”

“I’ll travel when somebody comes with me.”

“I’ll negotiate next year.”

At some point, preparation has done its job.

Now you have to move.

Something else I think ambitious women should start tracking is not just wins, but attempts.

Instead of only setting outcome goals, create attempt goals. Maybe this month you want to send ten pitches, submit five applications, make three collaboration asks, complete four auditions, or introduce yourself to two people you admire. Whatever applies to your life.

Now success isn’t entirely dependent on somebody else’s yes.

Success becomes: Did I put myself in position to receive one?

That changes your relationship with rejection.

A no becomes data. Maybe the pitch needs improvement. Maybe your portfolio needs work. Maybe you’re targeting the wrong opportunities. Maybe you need another skill. Or maybe there was absolutely nothing wrong with you and somebody else was simply the better fit.

All of that is useful information.

This week I also heard a story from a comedian about the beginning of his career. Long before the success, he spent hours outside a comedy club trying to get an opportunity to perform. Eventually, he was given a few minutes. A tiny opening. He took it, and that small moment eventually connected him to an opportunity that changed the trajectory of his career.

What stayed with me wasn’t who was in the audience.

It was the fact that he was there.

Still waiting.

Still asking.

Still available when the opportunity finally appeared.

That’s the part we don’t glamorize. We celebrate the door opening. We rarely talk about how long somebody stood outside it.

Some doors don’t open because you knocked perfectly. They open because you were still standing there when someone finally unlocked them.

That’s why I don’t want you playing about yourself.

And when I say stop playing about you, I don’t mean walking around believing you’re better than everyone else. Quite the opposite.

I mean recognizing that there is only one version of you.

Your experiences, your perspective, your voice, your gifts, your failures, your education, your personality, your creativity, your story.

That combination will never exist again.

So why are you spending so much energy trying to make it digestible?

There is room for improvement without self-rejection. There is room for humility without shrinking. There is room to admire another woman’s gifts without questioning your own. There is room to enter a room without needing to be the best person in it.

You simply need to know:

I belong in rooms that require me to grow.

Before this week ends, I want you to perform what I call a Confidence Audit. Think of one opportunity you’ve been talking yourself out of. Then ask yourself a very important question: Is the obstacle an actual qualification gap, or is it fear?

Those are completely different problems.

If it’s a qualification gap, identify exactly what you’re missing and create a plan to close it. Turn insecurity into curriculum.

If it’s fear, take one measurable action.

Send it.

Apply.

Ask.

Submit.

Introduce yourself.

Then record the attempt regardless of the outcome, because you’re collecting evidence that you’re becoming a woman who moves.

The goal isn’t to become fearless. I don’t think that’s necessary.

The goal is to become a woman whose fear no longer gets the deciding vote.

You may not get every opportunity.

Neither will I.

But I would rather collect rejection from rooms I had the courage to enter than spend my life wondering what would have happened if I had knocked.

Confidence isn’t knowing they’ll choose you.

It’s choosing yourself before you know whether they will.

Reflection

What opportunity would you pursue right now if you knew rejection couldn’t embarrass you?

There’s probably something sitting in your mind already.

Go give yourself a chance.

If this essay gave you something you can actually apply to your life, subscribe. We’re building the woman behind the life—not simply making the life look good.

With intention,
AuJené

Subscribe now

The Most Expensive Woman to Be Is the Woman Who Doesn’t Know Herself

Lifestyle Maxing | The Intentional Woman

The Intentional Woman

Lifestyle Maxing | The Intentional Woman

I used to think upgrading your life meant finding better things.

Better skincare.
Better clothes.
Better restaurants.
Better routines.
Better opportunities.

Now I think differently.

One of the biggest upgrades a woman can make is becoming so familiar with herself that she stops wasting resources trying to become somebody else.

Because there is an expense nobody talks about:

The cost of not knowing yourself.

It’s the skincare graveyard underneath your bathroom sink.

The clothes hanging in your closet with tags still attached.

The subscriptions you forgot about.

The friendships you keep maintaining out of history.

The career you chose because it sounded impressive.

The beauty procedures you considered because somebody convinced you something perfectly normal needed correcting.

The dates you accepted even though you knew before leaving the house you weren’t interested.

The routines you copied from women whose lives look nothing like yours.

Individually, they seem small.

Together?

They can cost you thousands of dollars, hundreds of hours, and years of your life.

And I don’t think women talk enough about that.

Because knowing yourself isn’t just a confidence exercise.

It’s an economic advantage.

And once I understood that, I started looking at “becoming your highest self” completely differently.

There are women making more money who still don’t understand what actually improves their quality of life.

There are women buying more products who don’t understand their skin.

Women with closets full of clothes who don’t understand their personal style.

Women with packed calendars who don’t understand their priorities.

Women dating constantly who haven’t defined what partnership actually means to them.

Women chasing careers they don’t even want because they never stopped long enough to define success for themselves.

More isn’t always the answer.

Precision is.

So today I want to teach you something I wish more women learned earlier:

Build Your Personal Operating Manual

Businesses have operating procedures. Pilots have checklists. Athletes track performance. Investors study numbers. Yet somehow, when it comes to our own lives, we’re expected to just... wing it.

I don’t believe in that anymore.

If you’re serious about becoming your highest self, start collecting data about yourself.

Not obsessively.

Curiously.

Your life leaves clues.

What makes you feel incredible?

What consistently drains you?

Where does your money disappear?

What makes getting dressed easier?

When are you most productive?

What environments bring out your confidence?

Which relationships leave you feeling peaceful?

What habits make everything else easier?

You should know.

And if you don’t yet, that’s okay.

Start studying yourself.

Here are six areas I’d begin with.

1. Create Your Beauty Baseline

Beauty becomes expensive when you don’t know what works for you.

You see something trending and buy it.

Someone recommends a treatment and suddenly you need it.

A creator uses twelve products, so you convince yourself you need twelve products.

Meanwhile, your skin may have been happier with four.

Your beauty baseline is the minimum routine that consistently makes you feel polished, healthy and like yourself.

Start documenting:

Your skin type and sensitivities.

The products you actually finish.

Which ingredients your skin responds well to.

Which hairstyles make maintenance easiest.

Your best hair schedule.

The nail shape and length that work with your lifestyle.

Your preferred brow shape.

The colors that consistently flatter you.

The makeup products you repeatedly reach for.

The maintenance that genuinely affects your confidence.

Then separate those things into three categories:

Essential. Enhancement. Experiment.

Essential is what keeps you feeling like yourself.

Enhancement is something you enjoy but don’t need.

Experiment is something you’re curious about.

That distinction alone can save you a ridiculous amount of money.

Because TikTok shouldn’t have more information about what your face needs than you do.

2. Build a Personal Uniform

You don’t need to wear the same outfit every day.

You need to understand your formula.

Look at the ten outfits in which you’ve felt the most confident.

What repeats?

Silhouette?

Neckline?

Waist placement?

Fabric?

Jewelry?

Shoe shape?

Color?

Hair?

There is information there.

Find your three strongest outfit formulas.

Maybe yours is:

fitted top + wide-leg trousers + pointed shoe + jewelry.

Or:

monochromatic set + oversized layer + clean accessories.

Or:

dress + beautiful sandal + statement jewelry.

Whatever it is, know it.

Now getting dressed doesn’t require reinventing yourself every morning.

You’re creating from an established identity.

That saves money.

It saves time.

And most importantly, it prevents you from buying clothes for imaginary versions of yourself.

That’s a financial lesson disguised as fashion advice.

3. Calculate Your Cost Per Wear

Here’s where beauty and lifestyle maxing meet financial literacy.

Stop asking only:

“How much does it cost?”

Start asking:

“How much will it cost me each time I use it?”

A $300 coat worn 100 times costs approximately $3 per wear.

A $70 trendy dress worn once costs $70 per wear.

The cheaper purchase was actually more expensive.

That doesn’t mean expensive automatically equals better.

Absolutely not.

It means value and price are different measurements.

Use the same thinking with handbags, shoes, beauty tools, memberships, subscriptions and even certain services.

Before buying, ask:

How often will I realistically use this?

Do I already own something that performs the same function?

Am I buying for my real life or my fantasy life?

That third question will humble a shopping cart very quickly.

4. Find Your Energy Baseline

This is where lifestyle maxing gets deeper.

Your body has patterns.

Learn them.

Track yourself for a month.

Nothing complicated.

Notice your sleep.

Energy.

Movement.

Hydration.

Stress.

Cycle, if applicable.

Mood.

Digestion.

Concentration.

You may start noticing things like:

I make terrible decisions when I’m exhausted.

I’m more creative in the morning.

I need more solitude than I thought.

Certain foods make me sluggish.

My energy changes at particular points in my cycle.

I feel dramatically better when I move my body regularly.

That information is valuable.

And when something feels persistently abnormal—especially significant changes in your cycle, pain, fatigue, mood, breathing, digestion or other symptoms—bring that information to an appropriate healthcare professional rather than trying to diagnose yourself online.

Self-awareness should make professional care better, not replace it.

5. Know Your Financial Baseline

A woman should know her numbers.

Not because money should consume her life.

Because money affects her options.

At minimum, I think you should know:

Your monthly take-home income.

Your essential monthly expenses.

Your total debt and interest rates.

Your current savings.

Your recurring subscriptions.

Your approximate net worth.

Your credit situation.

How many months you could support yourself if your income disappeared tomorrow.

You don’t have to love what the numbers say.

You just need to know what they say.

Because ambiguity creates anxiety.

Information creates options.

And financial independence isn’t about refusing help from anyone.

It’s about making sure your survival doesn’t depend on somebody else’s behavior.

That is a completely different thing.

6. Calculate Your Life ROI

This might be my favorite.

We calculate return on investment for businesses.

Start calculating it for your life.

Not everything valuable produces money.

Some things produce:

Energy.

Peace.

Knowledge.

Health.

Relationships.

Opportunity.

Joy.

Confidence.

Ask:

What gives me the highest return on my time, money and energy?

Maybe the expensive gym membership is worth every dollar because you use it five days a week and it improves your physical and mental health.

Maybe the expensive apartment isn’t worth it because you’re sacrificing financial peace for an address.

Maybe dinner with a particular friend consistently leaves you inspired.

Maybe another relationship leaves you emotionally recovering for two days afterward.

Maybe a $30 book changes the way you run your $100,000 business.

Maybe a free walk outside does more for your nervous system than another $200 purchase.

The goal isn’t to turn your life into a spreadsheet.

It’s to stop confusing expensive with valuable and busy with productive.

The 72-Hour Rule

Here’s another rule worth stealing.

For nonessential purchases over an amount you personally consider significant, wait 72 hours.

Don’t put it in Afterpay.

Don’t convince yourself it’s “basically free” because it’s four payments.

Don’t let scarcity marketing make the decision for you.

Wait.

Then ask:

Would I still buy this if nobody ever saw me with it?

That’s one of my favorite questions.

Because suddenly you’re separating desire from performance.

If the answer is still yes and it fits your finances?

Enjoy your purchase.

I love beautiful things.

This isn’t an anti-luxury conversation.

It’s actually the opposite.

I want women to experience luxury intentionally instead of consuming compulsively.

There’s a difference.

Do a Monthly “Stop Doing” Audit

We’re always adding.

New habits.

New goals.

New routines.

New products.

New responsibilities.

Sometimes the highest version of you doesn’t need another addition.

She needs subtraction.

Once a month, write down:

What am I paying for that I don’t use?

What am I doing that no longer produces a meaningful return?

What am I maintaining solely because I’ve always maintained it?

What am I tolerating that consistently costs me peace?

What have I outgrown?

Then remove something.

Cancel it.

Donate it.

Delegate it.

Finish it.

Change it.

Walk away from it.

Your life has limited capacity.

Every unnecessary yes occupies space that could belong to a meaningful one.

And This Is Where Knowing Yourself Changes Everything

When you know yourself, you become harder to manipulate.

Marketing has less control over you because you know what you actually need.

Trends have less control over you because you know what actually suits you.

Other people’s opinions have less control over you because you’ve defined your values.

Relationships have less control over you because loneliness isn’t enough to make you abandon your standards.

Money has less emotional control over you because you know your numbers.

Comparison has less control over you because you’re no longer competing to build somebody else’s life.

That is why I think self-knowledge is one of the most underrated forms of power a woman can possess.

And here’s the part people misunderstand:

Knowing yourself does not mean becoming rigid.

I don’t want to be the exact same woman five years from now.

I hope I’m not.

You’re allowed to change your mind.

Your style can change.

Your career can change.

Your body can change.

Your standards can rise.

Your definition of success can evolve.

The point isn’t:

“This is who I am forever.”

It’s:

“I know who I am right now well enough to make decisions that honor her.”

And when she changes?

Learn her again.

That’s the work.

Your Personal Baseline Audit

Save this part.

Tonight, open your Notes app and create six headings:

BEAUTY
What consistently makes me feel my best?

BODY
What makes me feel physically energized and cared for?

MONEY
What are my actual numbers right now?

STYLE
What do I repeatedly wear and feel incredible in?

ENERGY
What gives me energy? What repeatedly takes it?

LIFE
What am I currently maintaining that I’ve already outgrown?

Don’t answer how you want to be.

Answer based on evidence from the woman you actually are.

Then underneath everything write:

What would become easier if I stopped fighting what I already know about myself?

Sit with that one.

Because maybe your next level doesn’t require another course.

Another product.

Another relationship.

Another morning routine.

Another personality.

Maybe the woman you’re trying so hard to become is waiting for you to finally understand the woman who’s already here.

I love beauty.

I love beautiful clothes.

I love beautiful environments.

I love experiences.

I love taking care of myself.

I’m not interested in pretending otherwise.

But the older I get, the more I understand:

The ultimate luxury isn’t having access to everything.

It’s knowing yourself well enough to know what deserves access to you.

Your money.

Your time.

Your body.

Your attention.

Your energy.

Your life.

Spend them accordingly.

Reflection

Where are you currently paying the price for not knowing yourself well enough?

And what is one decision you could make this week that would bring your life closer to your actual standards?

If you’re serious about becoming the highest version of yourself—not just looking like her—subscribe. Listening to the sounds of Kevin Lyttle (IYKYK) down the 405, you couldn’t tell me the island wasn’t soon come. I could picture the ocean, the warm air, the slower mornings. I was looking forward to unplugging, being on DND for a few days and letting my mind rest.

Instead, I stayed home.

The trip didn’t happen because life happened. The person I was supposed to travel with was dealing with personal issues, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized that forcing the trip wouldn’t have been the right decision.

I’ll be honest.

The first day, I was disappointed.

Not devastated.

Not angry.

Just... disappointed.

If you know me, you know I love to travel. I try to leave the country every couple of months because travel has always been one of the ways I reconnect with myself. So sitting at home while everyone else seemed to be boarding flights felt frustrating.

For a moment, I kept thinking about the week I was supposed to have.

Then something shifted.

Instead of spending the week mourning the trip I didn’t take, I decided to be fully present in the week I had been given.

And looking back now, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

What I thought was a closed door turned out to be an invitation.

I spent time with incredible friends.

One of my friends transformed her home into what honestly felt like a Black-owned Soho House. There were people working together, laughing together, swimming, sharing ideas, eating good food, and simply enjoying each other’s company.

It reminded me that luxury isn’t always a place.

Sometimes it’s a feeling.

I also went on one of the most refreshing dates I’ve had in a long time.

We were supposed to spend a couple of hours together.

Six or seven hours later, we were still talking.

We laughed.

We shared stories.

Time disappeared.

And when I left, I wasn’t thinking about whether he liked me.

I was thinking about something much bigger.

We really do meet people where we are in life.

Some people meet during seasons of healing.

Some during seasons of chaos.

Some grow together.

Some grow apart.

It reminded me that the more I become the woman God is calling me to be, the less I feel the need to chase anything.

Not because I don’t desire love.

Because I’ve learned that quality is so much more valuable than attention.

The right people don’t just feed your ego.

They feed your spirit.

Later in the week, I attended an event surrounded by women from completely different walks of life.

Athletes.

Founders.

Models.

Mothers.

Artists.

Philanthropists.

Women with different stories but the same desire to grow.

What struck me wasn’t anyone’s title.

It was how beautiful womanhood becomes when competition leaves the room.

When no one is trying to prove they’re the smartest.

The prettiest.

The most successful.

When women simply decide to celebrate each other...

Something sacred happens.

I left feeling lighter.

More hopeful.

More connected.

As if God was gently reminding me that community is one of His greatest gifts.

Then I attended another event honoring people who have dedicated their lives to serving others.

Listening to stories about philanthropy reminded me why I started my nonprofit “The Not So Boring Foundation” in the first place.

Not for recognition.

Not for applause.

Simply because I believe love should look like action.

I’ve had the privilege of helping raise money to build homes in Congo.

Supporting girls experiencing period poverty in Ghana.

Working alongside organizations helping young people transition out of the juvenile justice system.

Helping communities in Panama.

I’ve never talked about those things very much.

Partly because I never wanted service to become performance.

But I’m learning that sharing your purpose isn’t the same as showing off.

Sometimes people need to see what’s possible.

By the end of the week, something became so clear to me.

Had I been sitting on a beach in Jamaica, I would have missed every single one of those moments.

The conversations.

The friendships.

The laughter.

The opportunities.

The reminders.

The people God intentionally placed in my path.

I thought I knew exactly what I needed.

God knew better.

Isn’t that how life works sometimes?

We become so attached to one outcome that we can’t imagine another one being better.

We mourn the closed door without realizing there’s someone on the other side opening a different one.

I’ve experienced that more times than I can count.

Relationships that didn’t work.

Jobs I didn’t get.

Plans that fell apart.

Trips that got canceled.

At the time, they all felt like disappointments.

Looking back, they were redirections.

And I’ve started wondering...

How many blessings have we mistaken for inconveniences simply because they arrived differently than we expected?

Perspective changes everything.

This week could have become a story about a trip that didn’t happen.

Instead, it became a story about everything that did.

Maybe that’s the lesson.

Not every closed door is rejection.

Sometimes it’s protection.

Sometimes it’s preparation.

And sometimes it’s God quietly saying,

“Trust Me. that.

Because every place has introduced me to a different version of myself.

Travel has taught me courage.

Patience.

Curiosity.

Compassion.

Adaptability.

It has taught me how little I actually know about the world.

And maybe that’s why I keep going.

Not because I’m running away from my life.

Because every trip brings me closer to it.

One thing I’ve learned, though, is this:

You can’t travel with everybody.

Travel amplifies people.

The qualities that are easy to ignore at home become impossible to ignore when you’re together twenty-four hours a day.

You’ll find out if they’re patient.

If they’re generous.

If they’re curious.

If they’re adaptable.

If they’re grateful.

If they complain about everything.

If they’re respectful to strangers.

If they can handle inconvenience without ruining the entire experience.

Travel doesn’t create someone’s character.

It reveals it.

I’ve had trips that felt like movies.

The kind where you’re laughing until your stomach hurts.

Watching sunsets that don’t even look real.

Having conversations that change your life.

Trying foods you can’t pronounce.

Dancing with strangers.

Missing trains.

Finding hidden cafés.

Looking at each other like...

“Can you believe this is our life right now?”

Those are the moments I chase.

I’ve also had trips where I spent half the vacation counting down the days until I could go home.

Because no hotel is luxurious enough to compensate for bad energy.

That’s why I’m incredibly intentional about who I travel with.

Travel is sacred to me.

It’s one of the few places where I completely reconnect with myself.

When I board a plane, I leave behind more than my city.

I leave behind expectations.

Pressure.

Routine.

Noise.

Travel gives me permission to meet myself again.

Sometimes I discover that I’m braver than I thought.

Sometimes I realize I’ve outgrown a version of myself.

Sometimes I simply remember who I was before life got so loud.

That feeling is priceless.

One of my favorite memories happened in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

I remember jumping into the water to swim near whales.

For a second, I felt impossibly small.

Here I was, floating in an ocean beside one of the largest animals on Earth.

It was humbling.

Beautiful.

Terrifying.

Perfect.

There was no filter.

No perfect angle.

No audience.

Just me.

The ocean.

And a moment I’ll carry with me forever.

Travel has also changed the way I eat.

Growing up, I loved Southern food.

It’s still home to me.

But traveling taught me that food is one of the purest forms of culture.

I’ve tasted handmade pasta in Italy.

Fresh fruit in tropical markets.

Vegetarian dishes I never would have discovered if I had stayed inside my comfort zone.

Every meal tells a story.

Every country has something to teach you if you’re willing to taste it.

That’s another thing travel has given me.

Curiosity.

I’ve learned that the world is much kinder than fear would have you believe.

I’ve learned new languages.

New customs.

New dances.

New ways of thinking.

I’ve learned that people who look different from me often want the exact same things.

Peace.

Family.

Opportunity.

Love.

Travel has made me less judgmental and more compassionate.

It reminds me that my way isn’t the only way.

And I think that’s one of the greatest gifts a person can receive.

People often assume travel is about luxury.

That someone else must be paying.

That it happened overnight.

The truth is much less glamorous.

I worked.

I saved.

I planned.

I prioritized experiences over excuses.

Travel has never been about escaping reality.

It’s been about expanding it.

Because every time I leave home, I return carrying something invisible.

A little more confidence.

A little more gratitude.

A little more wisdom.

A little more of myself.

Maybe that’s why I’ll never stop traveling.

I’m not collecting countries.

I’m collecting versions of the woman I’m becoming.

Reflection

If you could travel anywhere not to escape your life, normal.

Learning to say “no” changed my life.

Not overnight.

Not without guilt.

Definitely not without disappointing a few people.

But every “no” became a “yes” to myself.

Can you do this photoshoot for free?

No.

Can you rearrange your schedule for me?

No.

Can you create this content for free for me?

No.

I used to think boundaries pushed people away.

Now I know boundaries attract the right people.

Healthy people don’t get offended by healthy boundaries.

They respect them.

I’ve learned this in every area of my life.

In dating.

Friendships.

Business.

Even family.

There are people I love deeply who simply don’t get unlimited access to me anymore.

Not because I stopped loving them.

Because I started loving my peace too.

That was one of the hardest lessons.

Sometimes love looks like distance.

Sometimes protecting your peace isn’t dramatic.

It’s quiet.

It’s deciding that every conversation doesn’t deserve your energy.

It’s deciding that not every invitation deserves a yes.

It’s realizing that you don’t have to attend every argument you’re invited to.

One thing I’ve become incredibly protective of is my energy.

I used to think that sounded selfish.

Now I think it’s wisdom.

The people around you shape your life more than you realize.

I love being around women who are building.

Who challenge me.

Who celebrate me.

Who tell me the truth.

My closest friends don’t just clap when I win.

They hold me accountable when I drift.

If I say I’m going to do something, they’ll remind me.

Not because they’re controlling.

Because they care enough to expect the best from me.

That’s love.

The same goes for the people I date.

People sometimes ask why my standards are so high.

The truth is...

I don’t think they’re high.

I think they’re aligned.

I don’t expect anyone to treat me better than I treat myself.

I expect consistency because I’m consistent.

Honesty because I’m honest.

Respect because I’m respectful.

Effort because I put in effort.

The standards I have for other people are simply a reflection of the standards I’ve learned to have for myself.

For years I thought boundaries were walls.

Now I know they’re doors.

They don’t keep everyone out.

They simply make sure the right people know how to enter.

One of the biggest misconceptions about boundaries is that they’re about controlling other people.

They’re not.

A boundary isn’t,

“You have to change.”

A boundary is,

“If this continues, I know what I’ll do.”

That’s the difference.

You’re not managing someone else’s behavior.

You’re taking responsibility for your own.

And honestly?

Life got a lot quieter when I stopped trying to convince people to become who I needed them to be.

People will show you who they are.

Believe them.

Then decide whether that aligns with the life you’re building.

That’s your responsibility.

Not changing them.

Choosing you.

Looking back, the biggest shift wasn’t learning how to say no.

It was believing I was worthy of saying it.

Because once you believe your peace has value...

Protecting it stops feeling mean.

It starts feeling necessary.

Reflection

Where in your life are you saying “yes” out of guilt instead of conviction?

And what might change if you gave yourself permission to say “no” without apologizing?

With length="0" type="image/jpeg"/>

Everybody is talking about beauty maxing right now.

How to get clearer skin.

Longer hair.

A better body.

Whiter teeth.

The “clean girl” aesthetic.

The perfect wardrobe.

And don’t get me wrong, I love all of it!

I love skincare.

I love a beautiful outfit.

I love a good perfume.

I love getting my hair and nails done.

I love feeling feminine.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to look your best.

But somewhere along the way, I realized something.

You can look beautiful and still have a life that doesn’t feel beautiful.

You can have the expensive bag and still wake up anxious.

You can have glowing skin and still be thirsting over a man that doesn’t even deserve half of you.

You can have the dream apartment and still feel disconnected from yourself.

That’s why I stopped focusing only on beauty maxing.

I became obsessed with something bigger.

Lifestyle maxing.

To me, lifestyle maxing isn’t about spending more money.

It’s about creating a life you genuinely enjoy waking up to.

It starts before anyone ever sees you.

Before the outfit.

Before the makeup.

Before the Instagram story.

It starts with the life you’re living when nobody is watching.

For me, that starts every morning.

The first thing I say is, “Thank you, God.”

Not because every day is perfect.

Because gratitude reminds me that I’ve already been given more than I deserve.

Then I pray.

I read my Bible.

I spend a few quiet moments with my own thoughts before I allow the rest of the world to have access to me.

I drink water.

I take my supplements.

I read.

I study Mandarin.

I look at my vision boards.

I remind myself where I’m going before social media tries to tell me where I should be going.

That hour belongs to me.

And honestly...

Protecting that hour has changed my life.

Lifestyle maxing also means paying attention to the little things.

The sheets I sleep on.

The food I eat.

The labels on the groceries I buy.

The amount of water I drink.

The conversations I entertain.

The people I allow into my home.

The energy I surround myself with.

Because eventually I realized...

Your life isn’t made up of big moments.

It’s made up of tiny decisions repeated thousands of times.

People ask me all the time how I stay motivated.

The truth is...

I don’t rely on motivation.

I rely on systems.

I don’t wake up wondering if I feel like taking care of myself.

I’ve already decided that future me deserves today’s discipline.

Lifestyle maxing is also learning that wealth isn’t always financial.

Some of the richest parts of my life don’t cost me anything.

Being healthy enough to wake up and move my body.

Calling my grandparents.

Laughing with my friends.

Having parents who love me.

Watching the sunset.

Finding peace after prayer.

Those moments remind me that abundance isn’t only measured in dollars.

Sometimes it’s measured in gratitude.

One of the biggest shifts I’ve made this year has been saying no.

Not because I’ve become mean.

Because I’ve become intentional.

Every “yes” costs something.

Sometimes it’s your time.

Sometimes your energy.

Sometimes your peace.

I stopped saying yes simply because I didn’t want to disappoint people.

Now I ask myself one question:

Does this support the woman I’m becoming?

If the answer is no...

My answer is probably no too.

Lifestyle maxing also means redefining luxury.

Luxury isn’t always the five-star hotel.

Sometimes luxury is having a slow morning.

Luxury is eating food that nourishes your body instead of punishing it.

Luxury is taking a walk without checking your phone.

Luxury is sleeping eight hours.

Luxury is having friends who celebrate your success instead of competing with it.

Luxury is having boundaries.

Luxury is freedom.

I think we’ve confused appearances with quality of life.

The goal was never to look expensive.

The goal was always to feel fulfilled.

That’s why I tell women all the time:

Don’t just focus on building a life that photographs well...

But more importantly...

Focus on build a life that feels good to live in your spirit.

I don’t have everything figured out.

I’m still learning.

Still growing.

Still becoming.

But every single week I notice something.

When I’m intentional with my mornings...

The rest of my day changes.

When I’m intentional with my food...

My energy changes.

When I’m intentional with my friendships...

My peace changes.

When I’m intentional with my thoughts...

My confidence changes.

When I’m intentional with my life...

Everything changes.

That’s what lifestyle maxing really is.

Not becoming someone else.

Becoming more of yourself.

The version of you that has been waiting underneath the distractions all along.

Reflection

If someone followed your daily habits for one week, would they become closer to the life they want or further away from it?

With intention,

AuJené
