Spent yesterday evening creating something in between an IDE and a system design diagraming tool. The thinking was that we need a way to draft, conceptualize, and evolve software architectures at a more abstract level now that coding has become so heavily automated. Currently, the way I plan and conceptualize software architectures is scattered throughout many conversations with Claude or ChatGPT with deep technical decisions buried in there.

Claude code desktop generated the app you see in the screenshot above in about half an hour, it was still incredible to see.

While working on it, all these features came to mind:

• realtime code generation based on the architecture, which is versioned per change and updates the code / generates a new draft as you make changes

• test your systems design against heavy traffic traffic loads to see how it scales and which parts become the bottle neck

• easy deploy for iteration and feedback/testing

• new ways to outline and visualize the code too, not just the infrastructure

However, to do any of these things right would be a journey of its own, I also felt myself just piling on features hoping it would make the app meaningful, with no clear singular benefit of using such a tool for others.

I put a pause on the project, but clearly I need a new way of thinking about my own constraints and appreciating them more. What is actually being built? How do I define the minimal version of it and why is that the most valuable thing that will resonate with others?

In the past, we might setup the scaffolding of a coding project before fully abandoning it, but nowadays it’s like we abandon our projects in a more materialized state with better bells and whistles. Because our capabilities have increased through AI a lot more is certainly possible, but we end up feeling worse because we quickly learn we have not scaled our own thinking with it in the same way. I am still just as constrained, have few original ideas, and haven’t developed intuitions around what others find valuable. I will still need to commit to what I make, explore new territory, and make meaningful decisions with serious tradeoffs, and that still feels daunting, because the conviction and clarity expected from my end are just not there.

I will still see this project as a fun draft and a good test on current AI capabilities, but I have to take accountability too. My own perception and creative wisdom is just so limited. It’s never been easier to build an app with AI, the problem is actually I have very few external factors to blame when things don’t end up working out the way I had imagined.

I’ve always been a sucker for pop music and love its sound.

I know this song is probably so overplayed and a bit cheesy, but I remember hearing it build to the chorus and how much of an impact it had. It was refreshing to see it reach to such a passionate depth of grief. Companionship may be our most powerful human experience. Love truly holds no bounds.

To help quickly capture the vivid imagery I’m seeing so that I can interpret its symbolism and meaning, I have been using ChatGPT/DALL-E and Midjourney to help visualize the imagery I have seen over the last month or so.

• Although some emotions can be very difficult, in the end, I am always grateful for having had them

Over the last few years, I have noticed a lot of Karaoke places just hand you a tablet now with youtube access, where you basically search for the “karaoke versions” of your favourite songs. Not only is this more convenient than the previous Karaoke systems which were used in the past, I believe it’s leading to Karaoke happening everywhere, much more often.

I was at a party recently, and people just started doing Karaoke from YouTube as a part of the party/game activities. I walked past a bar last night, and they were drawing people in just through the Karaoke going on inside their venue, which you could hear echoing from the street.

I understand there are some cultures, particularly in the Philippines, where Karaoke has been important and popular for quite some time now, but I think YouTube is creating some kind of new wave here globally, whether the platform realizes it or not.

I personally love Karaoke and I already love YouTube, so for me, this is combining two things I have always enjoyed. I will say this - I have noticed this larger trend of what I’m calling Personalized Media consumption through AI. Consumers wants to take existing media they already love but remix, modify, or experience it in new and exciting ways that aligns with their personal preferences.

Karaoke represents a fun way to interact and engage with your favourite media, but if you were to combine something like this with the potential of Multimodal AI, I think it could lead to some exciting new possibilities. Hoping to put together a piece in more detail on this topic shortly. Until then, I will be practicing some of my favourite 80’s classics.

He doesn’t just write about tech innovators, he will go as far as following them around for years … listening in on all of their dealings and deeply interviewing their inner and extended friends and family.

The role of a biographer is incredibly important. They preserve the historical essence of unique and great people. They serve as as a bridge for the general public to inspire and empathize with the most influential people of our time. Many great people often have tough childhoods or unique circumstances which mold them. Through these stories, the general public may relate to them better and apply such boldness or heroism to their own lives.

It’s great reading different biographies but not everyone can afford or convince an established biographer to write something so detailed and comprehensive about them. At the same time, one could always attempt to write their own autobiography, but this is time consuming and requires a certain level of written craft not everyone is capable of. Also, the final product is different in my opinion because autobiographies can lack objectivity.

In my view, this kind of limitation will no longer exist thanks to language models. AI will not only have accumulated years worth of our deepest conversations, the tiniest details about our daily lives, footage of our best moments, but will be able to proactively interview our friends and family on our behalf. It would be able to create a living document deeply covering our entire lives with great analysis, emotional clarity, written craft, and comprehensiveness.

Everyone you know is on their own journey and hero’s arc. They are emotionally complex, have unique personalities, and are facing challenges. They are living beautifully enriched moments right now like enjoying the summer weather at the annual family barbecue, proposing to their long-time girlfriend/partner, or graduating from high school. How often do you hear about so called “ordinary people” who were independently supporting their parents as kids and then went off to pursue meaningful lives despite their initial circumstances. There is so much to glean inspirationally from everyone you meet.

Beyond just creating a biography about us, AI could generate a rich podcast series, synthesize films about our lives, write music and so much more long after we are gone. It may even learn to embody and take our place based on its deep understanding of who we are and a lifetime’s worth of our data.

It’s a bit embarrassing, but I have a friend drawing some concept art for my 2026 personal vision board.

The entire shot is supposed to be me in front of some futuristic looking corporate building. He first, by hand, just drew a sketch of the building itself:

I was curious to see what it would look in its final form, so I sent ChatGPT a photo of myself and asked it to put me on the building in the art style of Marvel’s tv series, “What if?”.

Instantly, here’s what it came up with:

I was pretty impressed by what it came up with, but I couldn’t get my head around the implications of this for the creative process. I’m sure others are doing this, or something very similar, but I thought I would try to give this creative technique a name.

I’m excited to introduce the Fast Draft Fwd Multimodal AI art technique.

Fast Draft Fwd is a multimodal creative technique that uses AI to generate high-fidelity previews of later-stage creative assets — allowing artists, writers, designers, and teams to leap forward in their process and iterate based on potential outcomes, rather than just intuition or low-res drafts.

My only piece of advice to creatives would be to use this technique more often. Don’t wait to finish a thing before evaluating it. Use AI to jump ahead, explore the future of your ideas, and come back wiser. Think of it like time-travel for your creativity. It’s fast, cheap, and it sharpens your final vision.

If you’re a trained frontend developer - you might have spotted that the issue above is with the link element inside the button element. I’ve highlighted the issue below:

While your frontend code will build successfully, you won’t see linting errors/warnings, and it may even look correct in the browser, you’re not supposed to have a link inside of a button. You’re also not supposed to have a link inside of a link either.

Why are you not supposed to do this?

• Accessibility:
  Screen readers become confused when multiple interactive elements are nested, breaking the user's ability to reliably navigate content.

• User Experience:
  Clicking on the nested link inside a button may lead to unpredictable navigation, such as activating both links simultaneously or triggering unwanted side-effects.

• Browser Compatibility:
  Browsers interpret nested interactive elements differently, causing inconsistent behaviors across Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or mobile browsers.

• SEO and Validation Issues:
  This invalid markup violates HTML standards, potentially harming SEO rankings due to poor structural integrity.

I will also add under modern frontend frameworks you might get strange event propagation errors when you click incorrrectly, where the event might propagate up or emit up to parent components and trigger event handlers or extra network calls when they shouldn’t.

The resolution in the above example is to convert the parent button component into a simple div, but make the “Read More” into a link which is clickable and expand its clickable area to fit the entire div (so that we restore the button-like functionality). The “Full article here” link above can retain its existing features.

This is exactly the kind of situation the typical code review process may miss. It would be easy for other developers not to know about this bad practice, it would be easy for a dev lead to miss or forget to check for it, and the code may appear to be working under everyone’s nose the whole time!

However, this is a great example of the objectivity and rigour a language model could bring. Imagine having an LLM double check all code when it is raised for review, find tricky bad practices like this, educate developers, and even suggest remediation steps. Github copilot is currently working on new code review features but I can imagine something much bigger.

For the first time, we can focus on not just writing code and shipping features, but establishing formal standards and best practices making sure our code meets a higher standards experience. Software Architects could create a proprietary, internal standard for code quality and ensure it is being enforced to ensure clean, simple, and maintainable code. AI could double check our work like a hawk and help us build more robust systems. I find all of this to be a really exciting prospect as a developer.

They are not just clever and witty with an iconic illustration style, but capture a particular moment in modern life and make a tasteful statement about it.

I have been testing DALL-E or ChatGPT for years now to see if these models could generate something at the calibre of a New Yorker strip - but they have not come close … yet.

To be clear, the criteria I’m looking for is something which conceptualizes a very funny joke and matches the art style well. Also, I am willing to give bonus points if the joke is something novel and under appreciated philosophically.

Today, after some minor prompting, ChatGPT came up with this:

There’s still a lot of work to be done … the font face, art style, and quality of the joke is just not where it should be. But I’m hoping by the end of the year, the models will cross some kind of threshold where this prompt will just start working.

Like everybody else, I am hoping the models will just get smarter and a lot more will be possible. I may ask for a new yorker style strip everyday just to elevate my daily routine and provide that familiar but refreshing take on modern life.

Ignoring the politics being discussed in this clip, this is a common occurrence within our modern media diet. We’re always being bombarded with high powered, polarizing clips that are not representative of a larger conversation or point being made by someone. We are often seeing rage-bait clips taken out of context, which serve a political, corporate, or ideological agenda. This makes it difficult to make sense of the world and form our own balanced opinions. It feels gross some times to think about how often every day people like me are being manipulated.

While humans may not have time to watch an entire 3 hour podcast interview with a politician before review a clip like this, Multimodal AI does. Rather than just relying on something like community notes on X or having to read the comments, I would love for a platform to provide “AI Context” using Multimodal AI models. Nuance matters and every day people deserve it and need it to make informed consequential decisions - like who to vote for.

Imagine being able to see data and analysis generated by AI on any given podcast interview or panel discussion. Imagine these kinds of clips being automatically flagged so that the viewer can have the much needed context for the entire conversation and then bring that into perspective when formulating their own opinions. It could create a balanced approach to what is being discussed and maybe alleviate some of the polarization going on lately. AI could serve as a great moderator and hopefully help provide some objectivity for users. We just need to build it.

The other day I was watching a YouTube video and was actually wondering what ChatGPT or Claude would have to say about the video.

I was surprised to see that YouTube or pretty much any platform doesn’t seem to have an AI comments section. People look forward to the comments section the most on every video or pic they engage with. At the same time, people turn to AI for thoughts and second opinions on everything else going on in their everyday life. It seems natural to me that we would also want to solicit AI opinions in the comments section too for all kinds of media.

Probably, to some extent, many comments today are already AI generated, but I think a separate comments section for AI generated responses could be interesting if the language models had more personality and were original enough. An AI comments section could increase user engagement and retention, help kickstart a comments section for new YouTube creators, and connect people around the world better to content creators they love to watch.

It seems like one of those things that is probably already possible with today’s tech. I guess the real problem is that we’re always stuck looking at everyday things with the lens of the past.

For a while now, I have felt like crafting some notes for a larger book idea I have been thinking about, but just couldn’t bring myself around to actually do it.

Because of fatigue from work and just general overuse of my work from home environment, I actually considered buying a typewriter so that I could draft the book. But, after thinking about this option realistically, I realized it would not be something practically I would ever use (or at least use more than once) since the novelty would wear off pretty fast. So, then, I looked into good writing apps with built in “focus” or zen modes. I didn’t like those options either. I wasn’t even sure if the book would go anywhere, so I wasn’t willing to fully commit to anything.

Out of curiosity, I asked claude 3.7 sonnet to generate a custom writing web app for my book idea and it instantly made me one. I told it my situation - that I explored other options and didn’t want to use them, that I wanted something different where I could just isolate and focus and do good, clear work. It not only generated something positive, the website it made included a focus mode, chapter support, emotional tagging, dark mode, note taking feature, and so much more. I couldn’t believe it.

One minor feature I loved was the way it put the working title for the book at top of the webpage, in addition to the gentle aesthetic theme it came up with which suited the book (while also not being too distracting). I couldn’t believe that essentially an entire app had been built just to support the writing of my book!

The app wasn’t perfect - I still need to customize it further like getting it to store the data appropriately in a database and fixing some of the minor UI bugs, but the bulk of the work is already in there. I then fantasized about other features I could add - either to support my own writing/thinking style or to support the unique needs and angle of the book.

It seems that based on the needs of the project itself, I can use AI to develop a custom app just to help me give life to the book. I can develop unique tooling which provides the exact moulding needed for the special project I am working on. This tooling can reflect the project itself and I hope that it will be felt in the final product - as if there is some kind of etching or stamping in the writing, some kind of imprint, which can be felt by the reader, even if they cannot explain it.

Writers and other artists already systemize their work today. The way they might organize their Word document and develop a workflow to research, group ideas, interview subjects, write their book, revise, and complete the refinement process is already idiosyncratic and deeply integrated with how they individually work and think. The exciting prospect I’m talking about here is using AI to develop custom software which can help elevate, materialize, and nurture this existing process.

The most exciting part of this experience for me was how the custom software made me want to write. The web app put me in the mindset and mood of the book. It felt like a special area on the internet and in my life which existed just for this project to come to life. It felt like I could have an easier time writing the book because I could continually co-evolve the tooling for it as well. I could create a custom, efficient, and smooth user interface and workflow even if it was just for me, which would make writing the book a lot easier and more enjoyable; keeping me in the bounds of and more aligned with my creative flow state. I can’t even imagine what the tooling for a film, music, or other kind of project would look like. What about a website/app for an entire team writing something in realtime?

I also believe there may be another added benefit here too. I feel I could make a custom environment and tooling for every idea I’m working on, making it mentally easier to switch between projects and instantly shift gears.

We’re in this insane era of personalized apps now (I have a bigger article about this coming soon). Custom tooling for every project you’re working on, with direct features created just-in-time as you need them. Customized to how you think with all your special quirks. It has never been a more exciting time to be a creative.

My friend gave me a call yesterday telling me about a website he had built just with AI coding tools. With no coding experience, he found himself so deeply immersed and excited about web development that he forgot to eat that day.

I was shocked to hear him use words like:

• deployment

• V0/vercel

• modal

• stripe payment integration

• headless shopify

• github

These are technologies web developers use everyday and take for granted, but to hear it come out of his mouth was like two very different worlds of mine colliding.

Besides the empowerment he deeply felt through AI tools, it seemed like he had found something he was passionate about. Something he had never been interested in before.

In fact, it reminded me of a weekend when I was maybe 10 years old and made my first website. I was so deeply immersed by it and enjoyed making something so much that I discovered my passion. My whole life changed because of that weekend. It had been as if I had been bitten by a bug for the rest of my life.

By the sound of his voice, it seems like he is starting to appreciate web development for his first time now too. What a beautiful thing.

It uses AI to recreate his partner, the design of his home, and his life as a celebrity from the first person perspective. I definitely do not condone this kind of content as I don’t think it respects his privacy.

I don’t even know where to begin.

For one thing, what is the point of achieving success if you can boot into a version of yourself or someone else’s life who is already successful? Kanye’s life is no ordinary life, he probably experiences things regularly that a normal person would never get to experience. Like performing in front of a stadium audience or dining with a supermodel.

How many lives could we live by going through multiple detailed experiences like this? Could we become wiser from this process?

I’m reminded of this episode of Rick and Morty, where Morty experiences a whole life in a video game and then becomes detached to life itself:

Isn’t it just so creepy? The things people could generate and watch about your personal life. Privacy is important. I felt so gross after coming across that video in my instagram feed but it seems indicative of what is coming for us ahead.

The Fountainhead

Often in movies, you might see the character go to an art gallery, and the art they look at just happens to capture their exact state of emotion, ethical conflict, or lesson they needed to see at that time. It could also be some kind of stimulus which helps their subconscious resolve something which it has been wrestling with for days - whether the character realizes it or not.

I don’t know if it’s true, but I heard from a friend that a lot of rich people love to collect abstract art because they believe it reveals something about their subconscious mind, emotional state, and worldview … a reflection of their internal landscape.

I’ve also heard really successful people talk about how in their 20’s, in pursuit of their dreams, they were just mimicking inspiring characters they saw in a movie. With very little understanding of an industry and no clear role models, art was really all they had to base their identity on and muster up the courage to face entirely new kinds of trials and tribulations.

Stumbling into precisely relevant art isn’t just something that happens to characters in movies - it’s something that I’ve experienced firsthand. On one account, the day after a difficult breakup, I met up with a friend and before I could even share what had happened, he played an album for me which he was really excited about that day in his car. Keep in mind, this is an album I would have otherwise never heard of - which seriously helped me cope emotionally for the next year or so with what had happened. The album expressed a depth of emotions I didn’t even know were there inside me, and it provided the undertones to my life I desperately needed at that time as I went about my day. Was it serendipity? Or luck? Was the Universe looking out for me?

At other times, after wrestling with some kind of internal conflict - I don’t know if this has ever happened to you - but I would just recall the title of an obscure book or a movie I had never seen which was released years ago, which had themes or a character arc similar to a challenge I was dealing with at that time. It was as if my subconscious would just bubble up the relevant art from years ago, art which was well in my periphery in the past, that I had never consciously even thought about … but it just so happens that this art would provide the answers to what I was seeking at the time.

I even find myself revisiting certain art works too - just so I can experience them and once again glean the powerful moments of catharsis they had originally brought out of me. I can immediately recall them or the moments within them when I find myself in a familiar situation.

Even walking down the street, you are exposed to so many stimuli. How much of the great art that will shape you and impact you for the rest of your life is still out there and calling for you now? It seems to me, that you just need to be at the right frequency and it will suddenly reveal itself to you, once you are ready to receive it.

This is the now and art has been seeking you

You are reading this now and I realize my work has found you at a unique moment in your life. It has the opportunity to help you cope or process things that are going on with you. I’m not sure what you’re dealing with, but I will now share a few broader themes that are currently at the top of my mind - even if they are unrelated to the rest of the article - but maybe there is something of value to you here:

Stress Management

Lately, I have been working on my personal stress management. I’m at a point in my career where actually addressing the underlying fears and difficult interpersonal moments emotionally is the only way I will survive. Have you ever been woken up physically by your stress? Have you ever woken up, felt suddenly hot, then suddenly cold, and started shivering on your own even though nothing has happened and you are not in any kind of physical danger? I want you to know that high cortisol is a real thing and I’m hoping that it gets better for you like it appears to have for me.

Limerence

My friend has a crush on someone at his work and recently told me about this term called “Limerence”:

Limerence is an intense emotional state of infatuation, obsession, and deep longing for another person, often accompanied by intrusive thoughts, fantasies, and a desire for reciprocation

What I find fascinating about the whole thing is not that it can happen to someone, but that it can happen mutually to two people at the same time. How does such an intense magnetism just happen like that, to two individuals without even knowing anything about each other? Yes, pheromones exist or there could be other kinds of reasons, but to me, it seems like something which cannot be explained besides just that it was destiny and meant to be.

Feeling one’s feelings:

I wish schools taught us how to feel our own emotions and go through the meta process of what we call emotional processing. It comes very naturally to some people, but I would say for most people (like me), they either react strongly to emotions and over think for days on end, or they avoid these emotions altogether and let them drive their decisions and rule over them in all of these impulsive and unhealthy ways.

I have found that by holding my breath and paying attention to my heart beat, I am able to almost isolate out an emotion and usually feel it fizzle out, but I struggle with steps beyond that. For example, I struggle with labelling my emotions as they are happening or knowing truly where they came from. Other times, an emotion may be so strong and feel many times more outsized than me … even a taste of it is enough to scare me off to avoid it altogether. I’m still not sure what to do in that case.

An Opportunity: Proactive Multimodal AI Art

Instead of just relying on the mysterious gears of the universe, what if AI took on a more proactive role and went out of its way to connect you with relevant art, in the moments you need it the most?

In my 2022 video, GPT-X, Diffusion, and Our Multimodal Future, I proposed the idea of an AI chatbot which would automatically generate AI Art based on the events in your life and real challenges you’re going through:

In the above image (found also in the accompanying book I wrote for the video), the AI chatbot has generated something unique to describe the user’s emotional state after a car crash, keeping in mind their artistic influences, life experiences, and personal preferences. This is a typical example of what I call Proactive Multimodal AI art.

I will now attempt to classify different levels of potential Multimodal AI proactiveness:

Level 1: Recommendations

Keeping in mind your personal story and artistic preferences, at the first stage, AI would recommend existing movies, scenes from a show, songs, books, and other kinds of art which are interesting and strongly relate to the struggles you’re going through.

Level 2: Generating Custom Art

Similar to the example I gave above with the car crash, at level 2, the AI model would generate healing art, movies, music, or more to help you cope with any given moment in your life.

Based on what you could be going through, it could:

• create art that automatically expresses the unique, deep pain you’re feeling

• create art to help you cope with this feeling

• provide abstract stimuli to help you solve difficult challenges or come to important realizations

• automatically create media you can easily share with friends and benefit from as an artist

• surprise and delight you with original creations which are highly relevant to you at that time to cherish forever

• generate music, films, books, a biography of real people, and much more based on the exact struggle your going through

Level 3: Shaping your Perception through Custom Art

The real goal of art finding us through our own subconscious and subjective reality is to help us achieve moments of catharsis, cope with difficult emotions, overcome tough situations, understand different perspectives, and grow as people. At Level 3, through our already very detailed and psychologically revealing AI Chat history, the AI model would be capable of conceptualizing what’s top of mind for us now and find meaning in the early stages of our inquisitory chat messages.

With an understanding of what we might be going through and what’s possibly in our subconscious at that time, it could generate art or even continue engaging in simple conversations with us - but with very subtle thematic messaging - which overtime could guide us to the positive, growth outcomes we may be inherently seeking in our hearts.

I will skip the ethical questions raised here by AI having such strong influence over us, but I will ask what if AI is capable of seeing through our trauma or bad thought patterns to who we could be? What if it could work with us overtime and subtly shape us to the healthiest version of ourselves through the conversations we have and more importantly the media we consume?

On one hand, there is the serendipity of life and our subconscious and maybe that shouldn’t be meddled with, but on the other hand, what if we could accelerate this beautiful process more often? What if we could enhance the coping process and automatically create more art to help more people navigate their daily life and heal deep wounds? I personally believe the human demand for great, impactful art is unlimited. What other artistic life experiences are we missing out on right now because we aren’t being connected well enough?

I believe proactive Multimodal AI Art represents not just an exciting opportunity for Multimodal AI models but really a way for art to find us more often - this could be the next evolution of an existing magical part of life itself.
