Everything from renovating a derelict Welsh farmhouse to ‘bikepacking’ across the globe, or recreating popular snacks in supersize form to building an underground tunnel system in your home - this shortlist truly has something for everyone!

We invited the shortlist to share their takes on topics like their creative habits and rituals, and the most surprising thing they’ve learned about themselves through creating content online. We hope this post (containing some of their responses) gives you more creators to follow, or inspires you to start your own online creator journey - who knows, maybe you will be attending the bCreator Awards one day!

1) How does it feel to have been shortlisted for the ITV bCreator Awards 2026?

Fatima Flatt: It’s honestly such an exciting and humbling feeling. I started creating content simply to share my experiences of motherhood and family life, so to be recognised on a platform like this is incredibly rewarding. It feels like a celebration not just of my work, but of the amazing community that has supported me along the way.

Catherine Keyes: It feels absolutely incredible to have been nominated I am completely honoured to have been considered. To be considered a Rising Star at 57 says EVERYTHING about how wonderfully supportive social media can be.

2) Who/What/Why inspired you to start creating content?

Knightenator: I grew up online as I had a turbulent start to my teenage years with a lot of grief in my family, so I turned to online YouTuber’s and creators. I immediately went into hospital radio and started filming videos of myself the second I could! I then went into game design where I found streaming, and that was it - I knew that was it.

Sarah New: My love for makeup and production inspired me to start creating, but I quickly realised I wanted to show the reality behind the finished look too. I love sharing bold, creative makeup while also being honest about things like acne, confidence and the pressures of social media. Coming into my queerness and becoming more vocal about LGBTQ+ rights has also shaped my platform massively. I want to inspire people to embrace who they are and know they don’t have to change themselves to fit into a box.

Sid Batty: I was inspired to make content after sustaining a knee injury playing football, meaning I had to give up on my dream of being a footballer after surgery. I used my account to hold myself accountable for my rehab, and it’s now turned into what it is today!

3) If someone discovered your content for the first time today, which post would you want them to see first and why?

Amy (The Braley Family): This would have to be the post explaining how our son decided to sell bags of goat food to passerbys, to feed his goats, in memory of our family dog Brody, to raise money for dog beds and toys for dogs in rescue centres. We are so proud of him and he has now raised £18,000. We would hope that the post would give an understanding of how we are as a family and how our love for our children and animals is our priority.

Blithe Saxon: I’d probably want them to read the Substack I wrote last year - “I broke up with the best man I’ve ever known because I deserve more”. It was one of my first Substacks and the first long-form pieces I’d ever shared online. it’s the piece that really made waves for me and began my Lover Girl journey.

Stella (Stells_Press): I would love them to see my interviews with actors. My Percy Jackson interviews in particular showcase the love and passion I have for interviewing and asking insightful questions to leading talent.

Theo Shakes: If someone discovered my content today, ironically I’d want them to see my most recent post as the first thing they see. It kinda keeps me in a job… But really, how exciting that they can meet me at my best and join the journey. The last thing I put out is truly an amalgamation of all the hours and creative progression having come together over the years.

4) What’s one creative habit or ritual you swear by?

Durk and Ski: Our superpower is being honest when an idea is crap. It’s easy to say when an idea is good but letting your comedy partner know that what just said was really unfunny is a great strength. For those who say ‘there’s no such thing as a bad idea’ they should take a look at our spreadsheet.

Adrian (Meet The Thorpes): I write ideas down immediately. Inspiration has terrible timing. It’ll arrive in the middle of the night, in the shower or halfway through a conversation. I’ve learned that if I don’t capture it there and then, it’s probably gone forever.

Sasha Starlight: At the end of last year I decided to start my mornings by journaling, rather than scrolling on my phone. And it’s made such a positive difference to my creative output and mindset. I’ve never been a jump out of bed in the morning type, but I now have a really soft and effective routine that I love.

5) What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about yourself through creating content?

What Zara Loves: I’ve learnt how much I love public speaking and teaching through content creation. It’s opened up a lot of opportunities for me through my work within research and commentary such as seminars and lecturing which I couldn’t have predicted. I’ve learnt that I’d love a career in University lecturing down the line, maybe if social media disappears!

Faye Reddish (Amy and Faye World): Probably that vulnerability is actually a strength. I used to think I had to appear really polished all the time, but the more honest I’ve been about confidence, body image, therapy and life in general, the more connected my community has become. It’s taught me that people connect most with honesty, not perfection.

Holly Murray Makeup: The most surprising thing I’ve learnt about myself is I seem to be very patient, some of my looks take anywhere from 17-32 hours without breaks or sleep and I’ve never felt over worked by continuing it. I’m just so happy by the time the look is finished with the outcome I’ve lost complete track of time!

Two Men and a Lady: You don’t need to be anything else other than your authentic self. I think I spent A LOT of time in my life trying to ‘fit in’. Actually, just being yourself, showing your reality, and not trying to impress. You can sense authenticity - and if people don’t connect, that’s fine! They aren’t your people…

Alice Audley (bCreator’s founder) also joined Shabaz and Watson to talk to Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley about bCreator’s origins and how the Awards have grown into what they are today. From 100 people in a photo studio in West London to last year’s event, which had a social reach of more than 60 million, it has been quite the journey!

It was the Awards’ first big break. TikTok went all in, which allowed us to take the Awards to the next level. They trusted us and we delivered. The dial shifted and that 2019 event set the groundwork for what the Awards are today. A big shout out to Lottie Moor, who championed the work we were doing and pushed that partnership forward. On Wednesday, we hosted the bCreator Committee brunch for the ITV bCreator Awards 2026 supported by Canon, and a time was had!

The bCreator Committee is our judging panel for the Awards. Made up of creators, brand representatives, agencies and industry experts, each member of the committee brings their own expertise to the important process of judging our categories to the highest and most rigorous standards.

The bCreator Committee brunch is a chance for judges - who represent all sides of the industry - to come together, forge new relationships and, of course, talk all things creator economy. And this is exactly what happened on Wednesday! As well as the opening of nominations for this year’s Awards. That’s right you can nominate now!

More than 100 of the industry’s finest gathered for a day of networking and discussions. Insights were shared, debates were had, and opportunities explored.

Guests were welcomed with barista coffees, courtesy of ITV, and then spent the morning mixing with their fellow committee members and being interviewed by the amazing creators Shabaz and Watson (who hosted last year’s Awards).

Guests also had the opportunity to explore Canon’s lounge, where the Canon team were on hand to run through any camera equipment and photography questions. Within the lounge, Canon had a wheel of fortune that guests could spin, answer questions and then be put forward into a prize draw for a goody bag of products.

Perhaps most excitingly, Canon also had a photography studio set up with award-winning photographer Amanda Akokhia, where committee members were able to get their professional headshot taken (you can find a selection below).

At noon, guests moved from the networking area of the brunch through to the panel area. Decked out with round tables, refreshments, big banners of former Award winners and a branded stage, it looked the part.

bCreator’s founder, Alice Audley, gave a welcome address:

“There has been a massive shift in the past 12 months in the creator economy. It is no longer a disruptor, it’s mainstream. Creators are becoming media companies. More than 200 million people globally consider themselves creators. Goldman Sachs estimates that the creator economy could reach almost half a trillion dollars by 2027. More than 40% of YouTube viewing in the UK happens on television screens. It is an exciting, exciting time and there is a lot of opportunity. The new era is upon us. Now it’s a question of how we best navigate it.

Today, we’re going to talk about the changes we’ve seen, the impact it’s having, how brands and creators are operating in this new age, the new strategies we’re seeing, where opportunities lie, the challenges we face and how we can overcome them, and what the future holds.”

After which, panellists Ben Webster (ITV), Bella Roberts (Creator), Emilio Arciniega (OTG), Fred Asquith (Creator) and Makeda Grant (Canon), were invited on stage and thus began the discussion on the world of the Creator Economy in 2026 (which had a big focus on Creator IP).

After the panel, we moved to audience questions, which turned into a roundtable discussion with committee members throughout the room asking and answering questions; offering their advice, takes and discussing trends.

Once the roundtable chat finished, it was time to formally open nominations for the ITV bCreator Awards 2026. Yes, a reminder, nominations are now open! In the words of our ITV bCreator of the Year 2025, Bella Does Editing, “Let’s get cracking!”

In this conversation, the founders reflect on the origins of their mission, the books that have stayed with them this year, and their vision for the next wave of Book creators.
They also share what it meant to be recognised as Book bCreator of the Year in October 2025, and why championing diverse stories remains at the heart of what they do.

bCreator: You’ve championed underrepresented voices in literature, what inspired that mission?

BGB: Brown Girl Bookshelf began as two friends swapping book recommendations and realising how rarely we saw our own experiences reflected in the stories we loved. We wanted to change that. Over time, what started as a small Instagram page became a space for readers and writers across the world who were hungry for the same thing: stories that capture the complexity of South Asian identity in all its joy, tension, and tenderness. People weren’t just looking for book recs; they were looking for somewhere their story belonged. That realisation, that we were building a community, not just a platform, became the heart of BGB’s mission.

bCreator: What has been the best book you’ve read this year and why?

BGB: Searches by Vauhini Vara has stayed with us the most. It’s an intimate, witty, formally inventive novel about technology, society, and grief. Vara explores the impact of technology on our society over decades and how we coexist with digital convenience and now, AI, while reckoning with what’s lost in the process: our attention spans, authentic connections, economic equity, and our natural resources. Yet that same technology also enables us to create, connect, and, in Vara’s case, to make sense of loss when words fail. She strikes exceptionally hard balances: being critical without judgment, wry and sincere, and earnestly self-reflective without suggesting she has all the answers.

bCreator: How do you choose which titles to highlight for your community?

BGB: We feature books across all genres by South Asian writers. Because our own reading preferences naturally lean toward certain genres, we created a community reviewer program to broaden the range of voices and books we highlight. It’s been such a great way to make our bookshelf more representative of the full range of South Asian-authored books. Even then, we know we can’t read everything, so we’re always thinking about new ways to highlight titles beyond formal reviews.

bCreator: What’s your vision for the next generation of literary creators online?

BGB: We hope the next generation uses social media not just to read for numbers or trends, but for discovery: to read with intention, especially those longer, richer books. Escapist reading will always have its place; we turn to it too. But we also hope readers make room for the kinds of books that spark curiosity, empathy, and deeper conversation. Some of the most daring, imaginative work we’ve read lately has come from smaller or independent presses, like Amma by Saraid de Silva. Our hope is that readers continue to look beyond the most visible titles, because (for us) that’s often where the most lasting discoveries are found.

bCreator: How did it feel when you were announced as Book bCreator of the Year?

BGB: It was such a wonderful surprise! We went into the weekend thinking it would be a chance to get dressed up and meet other creators. When our names were called, it felt surreal. For a moment, it was just the two of us on stage, taking it all in as the audience blended into a foggy cloud.

It was incredibly meaningful to thank the readers, writers, and collaborators who’ve supported us from the start, as well as our loved ones. bCreator: You’ve brought London’s past to life - what first drew you to its hidden stories?

Jack: I grew up in Essex, not far from London, so what first drew me to London was thinking of it as this place of day trips, theatre trips or going to museums. When I properly moved to London, it was during the pandemic and, when I could, I got out exploring the city and became a bit obsessed with discovering its hidden corners and overlooked historical treasures. Everyone knows London is a historical city but I think what really drew me in was realising that what I knew was just the tip of the iceberg and there was an endlessly fascinating array of places that are a bit more off the beaten track.

bCreator: What’s your favourite thing about creating content online? And which is your favourite platform to create content for - and why?

Jack: What I most enjoy about creating content online is simply sharing my passion for London and history more generally. The beauty of social media is that whatever your niche is, you will find an audience. I have always felt most at home on Instagram. I have found it to be where there is the greatest sense of a community and common interest.

bCreator: What advice would you give to someone thinking of becoming a content creator? Is there anything that you wish you’d known before launching your channels?

Jack: I would say, focus on quality. Quality over quantity definitely, although consistency is important. If you are providing value and good quality content then people will watch and appreciate what you are doing. Be authentic, if you are passionate about something that will come across, having slick presentation skills is less important than you think. Try and learn as you go along - think about why a video did not do quite so well as another one and try out something slightly different next time. Finally, I would say, be persistent. It is very easy to give up in the early stages of something because it takes time to hit your stride, but keep pressing ahead and, if you are also doing the above tips, you will start to get traction.

bCreator: What’s one corner of London everyone should visit and why?

Jack: This is a hard question! There are so many. I would say, generally, people do not often explore enough of the City of London. This is the oldest part of the city, where the Romans established Londinium, but is also very modern, it is the financial district today. But tucked away amongst the skyscrapers you will find Roman ruins (The Mithraeum beneath the Bloomberg building, or the Roman amphitheatre at the Guildhall Art Gallery), medieval churches (All Hallows by the Tower, St Helen’s Bishopsgate), hidden pubs (the Jamaica Winehouse or the George and Vulture) and so much more.

bCreator: How did it feel being announced at Travel bCreator of the Year?

Jack: It felt amazing! It was very unexpected because I was up against some incredible competition, but I was delighted to win. It was generally also a great evening and I met lots of other lovely creators and people who work in the industry.

bCreator: What inspired you to start sharing your business journey online?

Amber-Rose: I started sharing my journey online because I noticed a real gap: there weren’t many female CEOs in the creator space openly documenting the process of becoming an entrepreneur - the highs, the lows, and everything in between - rather than just showcasing the polished creator lifestyle. I also wanted to start building a customer base for my business, and social media felt like the most powerful way to reach the people I wanted to help.

bCreator: How do you balance being informative with staying relatable?

Amber-Rose: Authenticity is key! I place a huge importance on making sure that I’m accurately narrating my story whilst simultaneously packaging it in a way that’s digestible and adds value to my audience. I don’t aim to be relatable, I just keep true to myself - that in itself resonates with others.

bCreator: What do you think is the biggest barrier to women launching their own businesses in the UK?

Amber-Rose: Unfortunately I feel there is a lack of support and tools to truly aid women in starting businesses. There are also many stereotypes that have to be broken in order to be taken ‘seriously’ instead of our male counterparts and that can be hugely intimidating. My biggest advice would be to always be strategic and plan ahead but go forward with your ideas regardless of the opinions of others - you can’t let outside noise get in the way of your goals.

bCreator: How did it feel being announced as Business/Finance bCreator of the Year?

Amber-Rose: It’s a huge honour. Honestly, I’ve always felt like my “business” content is a bit unconventional - it’s become less about the business itself and more about documenting my journey, hitting my goals, and letting my followers see the deeper, messier parts of my life. I’ve always wanted to show people what’s possible when you back yourself, and I’m genuinely grateful that so many get to witness that in real time. If I can inspire even one young girl to start a business and believe she can build something from almost nothing, then I’ve done my job. Helping and inspiring people is what fulfils me, and I hope I can continue to be the role model I once wished I had.

bCreator: What first inspired your passion for gaming?

Lewis: It all started with Pokémon. The 5 year old me who could never put down the Gameboy and took it all over the world with him. Looking back now and I realise how much of an escape it was for me, to hide from the world that seemed quite scary at the time. But it sparked something. It brought so much joy and connection to others who loved the same things. What started as hiding from the world actually opened me up to it and shaped who I’ve become.

bCreator: What is your favourite social media platform and why?

Lewis: I’ve been using YouTube from when I started creating content in 2011, TikTok for the last 5 years but I have never seen so much community since I created my Instagram account at the beginning of the 2025. To me community is so important, not only connecting with people, but other creators and through Instagram i’ve met so many incredible and passionate people. To have the means to share a more personal side of creating content or even my day to day with people who follow me has been so much fun. But the thing I never expected was to have brands reach out, or even watch and enjoy the videos I make. Everyday brings another surprise, or brings another friend.

bCreator: What’s been your proudest gaming moment this year?

Lewis: This year has been incredible. From working with dream brand, to being invited to events and making new friends through them. But the moment that means the most is much simpler. Creating a series of videos that brought people together through emotions. We can cry at films, and everyday situations, but there seems to still be a stigma about crying at video games, and what shocked me is seeing a community of people coming together to say ‘I felt that way too’. It sparked so much conversation about why people felt that way, and what their favourite moment was in a game, that they all came together to discuss it. Seeing it flood through not only made me happy but also that I wasn’t alone in my feelings as well.

bCreator: What was your favourite thing about the ITV bCreator Awards 2025?

Lewis: The people. If it wasn’t be the ITV bCreator Awards I wouldn’t have met so many talented people. Just from the nomination, it gave me the chance to connect with other creators, of whom some I’ve followed for years. It was amazing to celebrate everyone in that room who have said no to giving up on what they love to do. It left the evening not looking at it as an awards event, but a place where I could see some friends, meet other incredible people and make new connections.

bCreator: If you could collaborate with any gaming brand, who would it be? And what would your ideal collaboration look like?

Lewis: For me, I’d love to collaborate with a brand to make something come to life, whether that be Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo or the studios who create these incredible games. I want to create a series of videos, or streams that focus on bringing brands and creators together to raise money for Mental Health in Gaming. To not only celebrate what we love to do, but to eliminate the stigma for mental health as well. To say it’s okay to talk, that it’s okay to cry, it’s okay to game. There’s a lot of scary things happening in our world at the moment, and I know for a lot of people gaming is an escape from that. So let’s create something fun, with some amazing people, and start creating change instead of talking about it.

bCreator: What is your favourite thing about the parenting creator community?

Claire: My favourite thing is the support network it creates in an otherwise isolating environment. Parenting can be an incredibly lonely journey - especially in this day and age, with the loss of the mythical “village” we keep being told we need to raise a child - so when creators share open, honest, vulnerable truths about parenting, and put a humorous spin on some of the most challenging moments, it helps countless others to feel less alone and brightens up some of the darkest days. There’s something incredibly comforting about being surrounded by people who openly admit they’re exhausted, slightly dishevelled, and doing their best - and who will still say “same” when you confess your toddler just ate three of the dog’s biscuits.

bCreator: What’s one myth about modern motherhood that you’d love to bust?

Claire: I’d love to permanently retire the myth that mums should “cherish every second.” Some moments - absolutely. But many are… character-building at best. No one is cherishing being used as a human tissue, begging a child to “please just at least SNIFF the broccoli”, or carrying a screaming toddler surfboard-style through a park in the pissing rain after they swore blind that the last 27 goes on the slide were definitely “the last go”. Motherhood has many wonderful moments, yes, but it’s also mildly traumatic on an almost daily basis, so I’d like us to drop the pretence that it’s all soft-focus and gratitude. Sometimes it’s just survival, and that’s perfectly fine.

bCreator: What is your favourite piece of content you’ve created and why?

Claire: My reel about “If Mum Guilt Was a Person” is probably my favourite, not only because it resonated with so many other mums but also because it highlighted how ridiculous our self-imposed expectations really are. To feel less guilty as mums, I believe we have to let go of a lot expectations we’ve put upon ourselves based on standards of a completely outdated era. It is simply not possible in this modern society to have it all, do it all and be everywhere at once, whilst maintaining a monk-like composure at all times. The sooner we let go of that expectation and start to accept the compromises we’ve chosen, the better.

bCreator: How did you feel when you were announced as Parenting bCreator of the Year?

Claire: Completely overwhelmed at first! But once it sank in, it felt incredibly special - a real milestone moment in my career. Just to be recognised alongside so many creators I deeply admire was truly an honour, but to win, felt like absolute validation for all the work I’ve put into building this career from scratch and nurturing the community I’ve connected with. Plus it was a rare opportunity to show my children I do, in fact, have a job beyond wiping their arses.

bCreator: What would you like your online legacy to be?

Claire: I’d love my legacy to be a balance of comfort, honesty, and laughter. I want parents to look back at my content and feel understood - like someone put words to the thing they thought only they were feeling. If I can help people embrace imperfect parenting, find humour in the chaos, and give themselves a break, then that’s a legacy I’d be proud of.

bCreator: When did you start creating fashion content and why?

Shini: I actually started creating fashion content accidentally (and unbeknownst to me) back in the Summer of 2022! As a Malaysian-Indian girl, I’ve always grown up around bindis, jhumkas and saris, and seen them as a fundamental part of my culture. So when I started creating videos about fusing these elements of my Indian heritage with my Western clothing, it felt more like a journey of identity instead of fashion. But I’ve since learned that fashion is a tool to express one’s identity and that’s why I take so much joy in creating fashion content now.

bCreator: Who is your biggest fashion inspiration and why?

Shini: I draw a lot of my fashion inspiration from Bollywood: the world of glitz, glam, and culture that remains undefeated. India is such a rich hub of creativity and artistry, so to me it makes so much sense to look to the source of all these beautiful ethnic garments itself. When it comes to my fusion looks, there are definitely dozens of South Asian icons that are killing it right now. To name a few, I look to Avantika, Lara and Rhea Raj, and Natasha Thasan. They always curate such brilliant looks which honour both their heritage and sense of style in such a unique and satisfying way.

bCreator: What is your favourite type of content to create - photographs/video? And what is your favourite platform to create content on and why?

Shini: Though I am a big believer in not needing to ‘niche’ yourself down, I seem to always come back to filming my ‘Come Pick a Bindi with me’ Series. It has such a special place in my heart seeing as it was the first series of mine that I ever developed (again, accidentally)! It also just seems to really connect with my audience as they try to guess what bindi I’ll choose by the end of the video to match my outfit, and when it reaches new audiences it always seems to spark genuine, positive curiosity around Indian culture. In terms of a preferred platform, TikTok is definitely my ‘main’ platform numerically, but I’d say I’m always excited to upload across all platforms so long as it means sharing my content with the world.

bCreator: What has been your proudest collaboration or campaign this year?

Shini: This year I attended Paris Fashion Week with L’Oreal Paris which was definitely a HUGE pinch me moment. As a young girl from Malaysia, I never even dreamed of being flown out to such events, let alone by one of the world’s biggest beauty companies. I was particularly proud of this moment as I used it to celebrate my mum and my culture by wearing one of my mum’s saris to the L’Oreal Catwalk. I was initially incredibly nervous to do this as I didn’t want to attract any unwanted attention to myself in such an unfamiliar setting, but I still pushed through my insecurities and championed my culture at one of the biggest fashion stages in the world and for that I was so proud of myself.

bCreator: If you could give one piece of advice to emerging fashion creators, what would it be?

Shini: I think people are scared nowadays that the fashion industry is becoming saturated. It’s not. It definitely is becoming saturated with people trying to copy what’s already been done, but it most definitely is not saturated with too many versions of YOU (especially given you are the ONLY version of you). So my advice would be to nurture your sense of self immensely. Find what inspires you and feed yourself with that content constantly. Experiment with different looks, get it wrong one hundred times until you get it right. That way you can bring the most authentic version of yourself to the internet where undoubtedly no one will be doing it like you. That’s what makes for a truly refreshing emerging creator.

bCreator: You’ve inspired a movement in outdoor confidence - how did it begin?

Soft Girls Who Hike: During lockdown, we really got into morning walks and eventually felt trapped and wanted something more but weren’t quite sure how we could do that as we didn’t drive. We realised since then it’s a lot more accessible than we thought. Before we started soft hiking, we felt inspired to join a group hike, however we discovered that their style of hiking wasn’t like ours. We felt like we didn’t fit into the hiking community but when we shared our story, we discovered there were so many people with the same mindset as us.

So we started finding hikes nearby train stations and in our local area as we watched Abbie Barnes on YouTube and felt really inspired by her videos as she focuses a lot on her mental health and chronic illness which felt miles away from your average competitive hiker - with the added bonus that she covered hikes in our area.

We then came up with the idea of ‘soft hiking’ whilst on a hike, and we were saying how nice it was to take things at our own pace, go off trail to look at history plaques or interesting looking mushrooms, and we realised how we were on the same page with how we see hiking and it wasn’t like your average competitive Instagram hiker that tracks miles & time. That just didn’t resonate with us.

We then said “it’s kind of like a softer way of hiking - soft hiking” which we then set up a TikTok to document our walks & hikes. We answered what soft hiking is when a commenter asked and we had about 40 followers at the time, and we woke up the next morning to see the term trending and thousands of comments of how it resonated with people in many different ways.

bCreator: What message do you hope your content sends to people?

SGWH: We hope that they can embrace their softness in the outdoors and realise they belong in the outdoors spaces too. Our biggest dream is to create an inclusive community of like-minded people who want to embrace their softness, and to make the outdoors feel welcoming to everyone.

A lot of our followers commented that they felt self conscious about themselves, had negative experiences on competitive group hikes and experienced other obstacles such as chronic illness which were barriers for them. It is important to acknowledge that everyone faces everyday battles but our main goal is ultimate inclusion.

We had a comment from an Olympian who said they love soft hiking too! So you can be the fittest athlete and still be kind to yourself on the hiking trail.

We even had some comments that people felt inspired to try a soft hike themselves and asking if others in their area would like to join. So, we created a Facebook group where soft hikers can join and meet others just like them, we’ve seen some heartwarming journeys on there - the best so far being two mothers who met for a soft hike and their toddlers became best friends!

bCreator: What’s been your most memorable hike or moment outdoors?

SGWH: One of our most memorable hikes was to Malham in the Yorkshire Dales. A place that holds deep meaning for Emily. Her mum passed away in 2015, and her ashes are scattered there, so it’s always been somewhere she feels a strong connection to.

That hike was incredibly special for both of us. It became more than just a walk - it was a shared moment of reflection, love, and remembrance. There were so many little signs that made us feel like she was with us; a bouquet of flowers floating gently in the stream, a butterfly circling us, and a rare sighting of a white-throated dipper at Janet’s Foss, who perched nearby and watched us quietly for almost fifteen minutes.

Emily: Grieving through spending time in nature has been so healing for me. My mum was such an outdoorsy person. She loved walking, exploring, and being surrounded by nature so I always feel closest to her when I’m in those kinds of places. Even though it’s been ten years since she passed, grief doesn’t really get smaller; it just changes shape. Visiting Malham again felt incredibly grounding, like a gentle reminder that she’s still with me in the world somehow. Getting to share that with Lucy made it even more special.

bCreator: How did it feel finding out that you’d won the Canon Rising Star bCreator of the Year award?

SGWH: We were in total shock!! We were in a category with 11 other incredibly talented people and we didn’t expect to win. But we felt incredibly honoured that to be chosen and to have our community recognised.

bCreator: What does the next year look like for Soft Girls Who Hike?

SGWH: We hope that more brands recognise the real value of community - of getting outdoors, slowing down, and connecting with nature as a powerful tool for mental wellbeing. Our aim has always been to uplift and empower our community, creating spaces where people can show up exactly as they are, supported through meaningful brand collaborations that share our values.

As two women building this with heart and limited resources, every bit of support helps us bring more people together.

This year, we’re taking things a step further by working towards our Lowland Leader qualifications, so we can start leading our own soft hikes and continue building safe, nurturing outdoor experiences for everyone who joins us.

bCreator: What sparked your journey into creating content online?

David: I have always loved writing and have done so for fun since childhood. I started an online blog in university and during 2020, I started posting videos on the same subjects I would write about and around my other passions, never imagining it could become a career.

bCreator: What do you find is the biggest challenge about being a creator?

David: The emotional labour. You have to constantly evaluate what you should hold as important and what you should try to detach yourself from, which can be hard to discern. Equally, the positives of creating - especially full-time - are so rewarding that it’s hard not to be continually grateful for getting to do this as a career.

bCreator: What’s one small daily habit you swear by for your well-being?

David: Not looking at my phone for at least half an hour before I go to bed, and not looking at my phone for at least half an hour when I wake up. The difference it makes to the pace of my thoughts is hugely noticeable.

bCreator: What has been your favourite piece of content you’ve ever created - and why?

David: I shared a poem called ‘I Believe in You’ in late 202, which is now in my debut book Frequently Happy. It was the first truly vulnerable piece of poetry I shared on video platforms and a key catalyst in my understanding of what it was truly like to feel community online.

bCreator: What would you like your online legacy to be?

David: That everything I created, in some way, made people feel better than they did before seeing it.

bCreator: How did it feel when you were announced as the winner of Lifestyle bCreator of the Year?

Jonny: I was honestly shocked, I did not expect to win at all! There were some absolutely fantastic creators in my category, and I hadn’t even written a speech because I genuinely didn’t think I’d hear my name called. It felt like such an honour to win the award, and it still hasn’t fully sunk in. I’m definitely still on cloud nine.

bCreator: Which is your favourite social media platform and why?

Jonny: Instagram is definitely my favourite platform. It’s where my community first started to grow, and I love how easy it is to connect, chat, and share both visual and behind-the-scenes content in one place. Between Reels, Stories, and DMs, it’s such a creative and interactive space that lets me show my personality, from gardening tips to life updates, all in a way that feels authentic and fun.

bCreator: How do you balance your job as a firefighter with creating content for such a large audience?

Jonny: It’s definitely a challenge at times, but it all comes down to time management and structure. Shift work can be unpredictable, so when I have dedicated days off, I plan ahead and batch-create multiple videos in one go, then spread them out across the week. Having that routine helps me stay consistent without burning out. The two roles actually balance each other nicely, firefighting keeps me grounded and reminds me why I value the calm that gardening and content creation bring.

bCreator: In your view, what makes the best kind of brand collaboration? Do you have a dream brand you’d like to collaborate with?

Jonny: The best collaborations are always the ones that feel authentic, when the creator truly believes in the product or message, it comes across naturally. I’ve loved working with horticultural and lifestyle brands, but I’d also love to branch out more into fitness and travel partnerships. My content has evolved into a real lifestyle space now, combining gardening, wellbeing, and balance, so working with brands that share those values would be a dream.

bCreator: What is your favourite thing about gardening? What advice would you give to someone starting their green-fingered journey?

Jonny: My favourite thing about gardening is how grounding it is. It’s a place to switch off, recharge, and reconnect, no matter what’s going on in life. There’s something incredibly satisfying about nurturing something and watching it grow. For anyone starting out, my advice would be to keep it simple, have fun, and don’t worry about getting everything right. Plants (and people!) thrive through patience.
