Allow me to reintroduce myself (It’s been a minute since I’ve done so).

The name gifted to me at birth is Rebecca. My spiritual name is Tara. I am someone who is •passionate• about life and getting out of bed every day with an intrinsic desire to live life to the absolute fullest; staying true to my Dharma. I am in Enneagram 2 dedicated to living a life of healthy integration. I am the oldest of three and a member of a family that loves each other beyond measure. I live in the ancient mountains of Appalachia and get to travel the world sharing the gift of yoga with others. Some brave souls call me their life coach. My favorite color is golden sparkles. Things that light me up include pretty much •anything• outside (hiking, camping, cycling, running, climbing...and and and), moving on my mat, poetry, connecting with my people, traveling the world, nesting at hOMe, music, drawing, intentional conversation, learning about communication and relationships (especially with the Enneagram), co-creating with the universe to continue to create this path as I walk it.

I am also a recovered codependent, people pleaser, placate-r who thought for the majority of my life in order to be loved I needed to •prove• that love to others; that I am lovable. Before I even realized this consciously, anxiety ruled a great portion of my days and manifested in various forms including OCD, disordered eating, overextending myself to the point of hospitalization; not just bending myself over backwards but breaking myself.

I’m sharing all of this with you because I’m often asked the question, “Are you always happy?”

No. I am human. I’m still figuring it out. I run the gamut of all emotions and my life has been infused with both immeasurable joy and trauma that has rocked me from the inside out. Although there has been a profound amount of healing and I would even go so far as to say I am now thriving (and •not• sorry), it hasn’t always been this way. It’s required years of doing the work and trusting in the resulting alchemy.

Something I decided to do years ago was to put myself in the way of joy on purpose every single day (especially on the ones that were the hardest). When you’re sad, when you’re grieving, when your heart broken, go outside, put your feet in the dirt, talk to a flower and try to be in a bad mood.

This isn’t an invitation to spiritual bypass or dismiss what you’re navigating through. It’s a reminder that you are held through it all and you don’t have to do any of it alone... and now it’s like this... not forever.

Yes, there have been many chapters and versions of myself already in this lifetime (and if I’m lucky there will be many more). I was recently reminded that an individual can’t recreate themselves with ingredients that don’t exist. I am the joy and the golden sparkles and I am the anxiety and the trauma. All of these ingredients that have made me who I am over the years have done just that... made me who I am. I’ve also learned that the more honest we are about who we are the more relatable we become to others.

I don’t want to know a sugar coated version of you and I’m not here to show you one of myself. When we bring our fullest self to life life can then live us to the fullest.

The Experience

Picture a weekend steeped in wonder and discovery. We’ll gather in the dappled shade of ancient Appalachian woodland to dive into the teachings of the Enneagram and the sacred practice of yoga.

Together in community, we will soak up gifts from the land and each other, break bread, and rest under the forest canopy in art-filled spaces that help to call us home to ourselves.

With its roots in ancient mystery schools, the Enneagram is a powerful tool with modern-day applications for self-growth, empowerment, and enlightenment. The millennia-old tradition of yoga calls us back to our bodies, yoking breath and movement to engage our senses and raise our consciousness. Together, these two wisdom systems can realign us with our truest and highest selves, while giving us deep insights into the nature of all beings.

In this weekend-long immersive retreat, we will explore the Enneagram’s nine types through the Embodiment Tradition, a somatic experience of the system that invites us to feel into each type, from fixation into boundless Essence. We will also connect with each type through the practice of yoga, including asana and meditation.

✨ The Enneagram teaches us that all beings are connected, and through the Embodiment Tradition we can experience this connection for ourselves.

✨ Yoga grounds us in ourselves while also expanding our awareness beyond the container of the self, bridging us to the universal.

Enneagram expert Ali McGhee will share her wisdom and knowledge around the sacred and life-changing teaching that is the Enneagram. She will offer tools of empathy and understanding (for self and others) that can be integrated into our everyday lives.

Tara Eschenroeder will infuse the experience with poetry, nature connection and yoga (asana, visualization, meditation); providing an invitation out of the thinking mind back into the soil of our bodies.

Our days together will also include yoga practice tailored for the enneagram types, poetry, forest bathing, creative practice, intentional community-building, and time for rest and nourishment.

Floyd Yoga Jam is an immersive wellness experience designed to inspire connection, healing, creativity, and presence through yoga, music, and community.

Set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Floyd County Virginia, the flowing water and gentle mountains create a harmonious climate which pervades throughout the Festival.

Love Shine Play Festival 2026

The woods have always been my happy place and when I received the invitation to do a section hike of the Appalachian Trail (AT) this past winter my immediate response was without hesitation a full-bodied “yes.” I knew that this was something that was unquestionable for me. What I didn’t know was the lessons that would unfold...

Freedom is something that nature is constantly reminding us that we have permission to be. Humans insist on putting themselves in boxes whether this is with habits, shoulds, oppression, societal expectations, etc. Nature is constantly growing towards that which gives it life. We are not separate and yet are the only beings on earth that at times insist on growing in a different direction. From drinking crisp cool water from mountain streams, to simply putting one foot in front of the other, to being completely off grid and unreachable at times... that wild one inside started to come back online and full-fledged.

The way that hunger begins to speak in ways that doesn’t allow us to not pay attention...the way that laying down on a soft bed of grass feels like the most luxurious down comforter... the way sleep embraces you and holds you gently until the birds start to sing and the sun starts to rise... the way that there are no mirrors that exist in the forest apart from who you’re with and the nature that surrounds you... the way that we are reminded that we are animal is just that. It’s a sacred remembering. Not something that’s sought outside of us but deep within. I was feral (and I wasn’t sorry).

It wasn’t the first time that I heard that the trail will teach you and my goodness does she; and not only as she records your footsteps but long after you return home (the one with the address that is). I still hear whispers of, “Slow down baby girl. Slow down and pay attention. Are you hungry? Feed yourself. Are you thirsty? Quench that thirst. Do you need to go outside? Take off your shoes and put your feet in the dirt. Do you miss the forest? You made a good choice deciding where to live. I’m right here. I’m right here and I’m not going anywhere.”

There’s no controlling what happens in nature. This is a reminder that I’ve received in multitudes and it only continues. One of my words for 2026 has been “let.” Witnessing the way that the sun is going to rise without asking for permission... that no matter how hard we try to protect the weather, most likely something different is going to happen... that interacting with other humans is not just interacting with bodies but with souls; souls that are walking their own paths as I walk mine (the kind with no compass or map) that need to lead exactly where they’re meant to.

Letting this experience (and other life-changing ones) integrate into my everyday is something I don’t think will ever be done...and neither am I.

The mountains were calling and I went.
I will only continue to listen.

And now I’d like to get curious (as I do)

• Where in your life are you being invited to grow toward what
  gives you life rather than what feels expected of you?

• What part of your wild nature has been asking for your
  attention lately?

• Where have you been trying to control an outcome that may be
  asking to simply be witnessed instead?

• Nature grows without asking permission. What would change if
  you gave yourself permission to do the same?

• What whispers have you been hearing beneath the noise of
  everyday life?

Complete this sentence:

“The mountains are calling me toward __________.”

Then sit with whatever arises before rushing to answer.

Sometimes the wisest part of us already knows.

Forms of Tenderness

The most human…

is you; is me naked as we came; is the way that we were made.

Do you remember when you didn’t need a reason to get up in the morning other than to be alive?

Bewildered…

the mind becomes when we start to think we are lost.

Look closer my love…be-wild-er…it’s the way in.

The angry spirit…

just wants to be held; to be rocked; to be remembered in these wild places.

These tears are silent screams longing.

Return to the remembering of your own aliveness.

Let loose the animal that knows the way.

Sing her to sleep when her cheeks are damp.

And carve into your own life these forms of tenderness.

In this weekend-long immersive retreat, we will explore the Enneagram’s nine types through the Embodiment Tradition, a somatic experience of the system that invites us to feel into each type, from fixation into boundless Essence. We will also connect with each type through the practice of yoga, including asana and meditation.

✨ The Enneagram teaches us that all beings are connected, and through the Embodiment Tradition we can experience this connection for ourselves.

✨ Yoga grounds us in ourselves while also expanding our awareness beyond the container of the self, bridging us to the universal.

Where are you, what are you doing (or better yet...how are you being) when the need to perform is stripped away and reveals what is deeply alive?

We are social creatures. This is a gift, for sure, and if we’re not careful, we can completely loose sight of our truth. I for one have been guilty of attempting to mold myself to something that I’ve thought I should be; whether it be a result of society, a partnership, a job, etc. There is a primal fear that if we are rejected we won’t be able to survive alone. This was a very helpful concept and mindset back when we were cave humans and lucky for us we are no longer being chased by saber tooth tigers anymore (although sometimes it may feel like it).

Maybe we change our bodies, maybe we dedicate our lives to something that someone once said we were really good at (that we didn’t really enjoy doing), or maybe we bend ourselves completely in half; close to breaking in attempts to try to save a partnership that was never meant to be...we all do it...and that’s okay. You get to be human.

David Whyte reminds us that this is something we must learn...perhaps even remember...that “the world is meant to be free in.” The shackles of “shoulds” that we create is not this freedom that he speaks of and that we are worthy and capable of.

He also reminds us that “sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet confinement of your aloneness to learn...” The conversation that we most often avoid (and perhaps the most important) is the one with ourselves. We run the risk of hearing that thing that we didn’t know we already knew; perhaps that thing we didn’t want to hear.

And this is also where the source of our ability to change lies...when we are able to see and accept ourselves first completely as we are.

“Anything or anyone that does not bring you alive is too small for you.” I remember the way these words felt the first time I read them and they have haunted me in the best way possible.

About a month ago, I was reminded of the importance of the impact of this feeling. I had been in Ireland for about a month and in the course of that month I took the opportunity to explore some uncharted territory in my external world while also doing some deep exploration of my own internal landscapes. It was my last full day in the land of Ire (and the first time a had more than one hour to myself as I had been leading a retreat for the whole week prior). I of course took this opportunity to go outside. My wander took me up a mountainside, down a winding trail to a thick pine forest (being teased by emotion-filled clouds along to way), down past some waterfalls and to a fairy tree (that’s a whole other story...and yes, they are real). I paused for a while with that sweet little tree before making my way in the other direction. By the time I returned to the top of the mountain the clouds were doing that thing again; only this time it wasn’t just a tease...within seconds I was being pelted my rain from the backside (learning the true meaning and importance of a certain line of An Irish Blessing). With the wind so strongly at my back I felt as though I was being pushed and propelled forward on the path...on my path. I found myself smiling in the midst of this unspoken conversation I was having with the elements. I was looking down to assure my footing moving forward when something told me to look up.

All of the sudden my gaze lifted....

In that very moment I was met with one of the most vibrant rainbows my eyes had ever met. I could see exactly where the rainbow begin and exactly where it landed on the side of the mountain below me. In the sweet confinement of my aloneness I felt alive...I was free.

So, my courageous friend...

What parts of your life genuinely make you feel more alive?

Where have you been shrinking yourself to fit inside spaces that are too small for your spirit?

When was the last time you felt deeply free?

If your life were guided by aliveness rather than obligation, what would change?

I invite you to explore these questions and with gentle curiosity as if you were walking in the midst of a dense forest of pine trees for the first time.
