This year has been so busy for me, creatively and personally. Aside from drawing a lot of flash and custom tattoos, I have also:

• Traveled to Chicago for a guest spot (as someone who loathes flying and will avoid it at all costs, this was BIG for me.)

• Started a snail mail club, where I am designing new prints, stickers, phone wall papers, and mini zines each month. This also includes writing a letter, printing, packaging, and mailing all of these!

• Intentionally carved out time to spend with my friends IRL, which usually means hosting a movie or game night at my house. I try to do this monthly if I can! It’s so important for me to make sure my people know that I love them and want to spend time with them.

  When I write it all out, it doesn’t look like much… but there is so, so much invisible time and effort spent to make all of these things successful. I am so happy to be able to spend my time this way. Art is so fulfilling in a way that no other job has been for me. At the end of the day, I couldn’t ask for anything better. So much of planning, preparing, drawing, and creating is done in the comfort of my home (and usually in my pajamas.) Infinite “thank you’s” to everyone who supports my art and continues to do so.

Honorable mentions of fun things that have kept me busy:

• I went to the movies often this summer! In the same weekend, my spouse and I went to see Wet Hot American Summer for their anniversary showing, and I went to see Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma with a friend— two totally different vibes, but both are centered around Summer Camps.

• We got our backyard landscaped! We’ve owned our house for almost 10 years and now we finally have a backyard that I want to spend time in.

• I went antiquing, A LOT. I have been on the hunt for a door harp and finally found the perfect one! I made a little antiquing vlog on my personal TikTok about it, which you can watch here, if you'd like!

Now, we get into the part of the Substack post where I show you art I have made.

One of the most interesting tattoos I made this Summer was not on a person, but on an insult pump cover! This was truly SO fun to make, and easier than I thought!

On a totally NOT tattooing note, I want to show you a painting I made. Vanilla Mace is my absolute favorite streamer (she goes triple platinum in my house on every platform where she posts.) When she announced that she was opening up her PO Box for her birthday, I knew I had to make her a painting.

Two things I know about her, for certain: She really enjoyed the movie, Obsession, and she carries emergency beef sticks in her bag. Thus, this painting was born:

• Have been at my new studio, Better Friends, for about four months! A quarter of a year goes by really fast if you aren’t paying attention. I’m having a great time working alongside other tattooers, again! The location of Better Friends is pretty central and near lots of great food (Might I recommend Nong’s for some really comforting food and Exquisite Creatures for some damn good vegan coffee?)

• Started watching The X-Files and have fallen head-over-heels with it. (See: new flash I made inspired by the episode, “Eve” and a Gillian Anderson portrait.)

  

• Have been antiquing! I scored some sick VHS tapes from my fav spot here in Portland and farmed some really great tattoo references from shops in Olympia, WA.

  

• Have been sweating my absolute ass off. This Summer has been brutal and I am welcoming rain and cold weather with open arms. Which means— it’s the perfect time of year to get tattooed :-)

I LOVE kewpies. They’re cute, timeless, multifaceted. I also love a theme. I ran a poll on my Instagram to see what themed kewpies I should make and “Twin Peaks” won by a landslide. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to release all of these designs at once, or roll them out one by one. After finishing up my Log Lady kewpie, I NEEDED to put her on my website immediately.

Like all of the kewpie designs I’m making, I’m only tattooing them ONCE! As I’m writing this, she’s still available to be booked, but I’m not sure how long that’s going to last. If you’d like her, I’d suggest snagging her ASAP!
