I turned 35 this weekend, which feels both impossible and completely right.

I’ve always loved birthdays. Not just for the celebrating, but for the chance to look back at the person I was a year ago and ask: What changed? What did I learn? What am I finally ready to let go of? The virgo in me gets a little emo.

And this year, the answers felt bigger.

Thirty-four challenged me physically, emotionally and in ways I didn’t necessarily share in real time. I had adrenal surgery. I experienced what it feels like to lose your strength and slowly fight to feel like yourself again. I learned how deeply stress can live in the body, how difficult it can be to ask for help and how quickly we forget that simply feeling healthy is one of life’s greatest privileges.

It also changed the way I see friendship. Hard seasons have a way of making everything and everyone clearer. I learned the difference between the people who say, “Let me know if you need anything,” and the people who arrive on a Monday morning with coffee and sit at your kitchen table scrapbooking with you. I realized you can feel when someone genuinely cares about you and you can also feel when someone is simply trying to maintain their place in your life.

Some of the lessons I learned this year were comforting. Others were uncomfortable. A few forced me to admit things I already knew deep down but wasn’t ready to accept.

I learned that protecting your peace may disappoint people. That your intuition deserves to be heard, but not every emotion requires an immediate decision. That losing another five or ten pounds probably won’t make you happier. That being capable doesn’t mean you should carry everything alone. And that becoming the version of yourself everyone else expects may actually be what’s keeping you from becoming you.

So, in honor of turning 35, these are 35 things I know now that I didn’t fully understand before. Not perfectly packaged words of wisdom, just the honest lessons that changed how I see my health, my body, my relationships and the life I want to build from here.

Is it me or did this summer fly by? Or do we say that every year? Time has been moving too quickly and my to-do list just keeps getting longer. Fall approaching means I’m prepping all the back-to-school things including activities, carpool, shopping, organizing, upcoming holidays, birthdays, etc etc etc!!! The mental load is so real. Anyways, for those who really know me, know that I’m very particular with… everything. So, I wanted to put together a list of vetted clean snacks for the whole family, school lunch things, backpacks, and what I’m buying for my kids and for myself.

You guys love my lunchbox stories and that makes me so happy because I really do put so much thought into my kids’ lunches while also keeping them realistic and easy. Let’s start with the most frequently asked question: Which lunchbox do I use? The Omie has been our go-to because of the removable thermos. My kids prefer hot lunches so this has been a game changer along with the smaller option I bought for pizza Friday’s / when my daughter only wants some of the cafeteria lunch. The dip containers are also great for condiments and we can’t forget stainless steel utensils. Sometimes I’ll get creative and add these cute toothpicks to the fruits/ veggies and I ordered these fun notes for my almost first grader to share with her friends! Last but not least on this topic- the lunch bag. I bought the State luncbox to match their backpacks this year but some other favorites are this customizable one from Etsy and this one from PB with a coldpack.

Moving on to backpacks. We have tried a lot of backpacks at this point and my honest opinion is that State backpacks are worth every $. I got the regular size for my 6 year old and the mini size for my 3 year old. Last year, I took the girls to Stoney Clover for the whole DIY experience, which was cute and you can also do it online. And I order these personalized pouches for extra clothes, etc.

When it comes to snacks, I’m very particular with ingredients and try to opt for seed oil-free, no gums/ fillers or artificial anything and obviously organic when possible. I’m definitely not perfect in this area and give in to some of my kids requests at the grocery store but I’ve put together some of the better options in the clean pantry category:

Sweet:

• Blue Stripes superfruit gummies: If you’re going to give your kids “gummies”, these are a great option. Only 2 ingredients (the flavor + cacao fruit).

• Soley is another great gummy brand with 1-2 ingredient snacks like these mango bites and these fruit jerkey sticks.

• And for more of a fun fruit roll-up, You Love Fruit is a good option.

• Dino Bars: made with fruit, oats, hemp hearts and coconut oil.

• One ingredient dried apple crisps by Bare or That’s It.

• If we’re doing pouches, this variety pack by White Leaf is organic and biodynamic. And of course, Once Upon a Farm.

• Amara smoothie melts will always be a favorite for us.

• These sourdough graham crackers are amazing. All of their products are great!

• Gelee is a great option for when they ask for Jello.

• Craving a cookie? My clean picks include O’ts, 2Betties & Skout. And if you want to DIY, Wild Rye is delicious.

• Skout Organic cookie dough bars made from dates.

Savory:

• Cadootz crackers: made with oat flour, no seed oils and actually taste good.

• Sunnie Dippers: The variety pizza + hummus packs are the better lunchables we grew up with.

• Gimme seaweed snacks: get the thin packaging!

• New Primal mini chicken meat sticks

• If you’re going to buy cheese sticks, I personally love Organic Valley because their dairy products come from individually owned farms. Also Cabot and Tillamook are Bianca approved cheese brands.

• Yammy dried sweet potato sticks: the original flavor is one ingredient and the other flavors are all Bianca approved. They’re also oven-dried, never fried.

• Lundberg mini rice cakes

• Masa does tortilla chips right without seed oils.

• Teddy’s tallow chips

And for the moms:

• Toto protein cookies are made with clean ingredients and adaptogens.

• Mini peanut butter black sesame bars are the perfect little sweet treat. My kids also love them but unfortunately our school doesn’t allow any nut products so it’s a car snack for us.

• Edamame protein snack: the sea salt flavor is the only clean option but I’m sure the others taste great too.

• Unbothered Foods sourdough crackers. A hard yes.

• Lexington Bakes protein dessert variety pack.

• If I’m being honest, protein bars have never been my thing but if I had to choose, Equip would be it. It’s made with real food ingredients, no seed oils, “natural flavors” or lecithin and has 20g of grass fed protein.

• Single serving salad dressing by Lav made with olive oil. Perfect for an office lunch or a better dressing option when eating out.

• Seed oil free sprouted nuts by Daily Crunch- variety pack for a sweet or savory moment

Somewhere along the way, wellness became a second job. We’re logging every meal, tracking every step, hyper focused on protein, taking 12 supplements before 9am and still somehow feeling behind. The irony? All that optimizing is exhausting. And exhaustion is the enemy of actually feeling well.

I’ve been there. I have the apps, the rings, the cute pill cases. And what I learned is slowly, a little reluctantly- simplifying isn’t quitting. It’s the upgrade.

So here’s what I actually changed:

I stopped trying to be in the gym for an hour. My workouts are 45 minutes max: a Pilates class 1-2x a week, a 20-30 min strength session focussing on a specific body part or group, tennis 2-3x a week, or a long walk with a friend to catch up rather than a sedentary coffee date. That’s it. And I’m in better shape than I was when I was doing more.

I threw out half my supplements. I got bloodwork done and built my stack around what my body was actually missing, not what I was targeted to on Insta ads.

I simplified my plate. Not my macros, not my tracking app- just the actual food. My morning non-negotiables are 2 cups of bone broth while doing school drop off followed by a green juice, preferably a simple celery juice then caffeine- a matcha or whole milk latte, adding a scoop of collagen if I’m making it at home. That’s roughly 30-45g of protein before I have any food.

My skincare routine is no longer 10 steps. Turns out the products I actually use consistently are better than the ones sitting on my shelf.

These chocolate muffins are (not so secretly) elite because every single ingredient has intention and is doing something for your child’s body. The spinach brings iron and folate for energy and growth, while apples and bananas naturally sweeten and add fiber to support digestion and steady blood sugar. The chia–flax blend adds omega-3s, gut-loving fiber, and plant-based protein that will keep them full. Ingredients:

• 4 eggs

• 2 ripe bananas

• 1 cup olive oil

• 1.5 cups apple sauce (or baked apples)

• 1 package of spinach (~5oz)

• 3 cups Einkorn flour

• 1 cup flax chia seed blend

• pinch of sea salt

• 1/2 cup cacao powder

• 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

• 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract or ground powder

• 1/2 cup maple syrup

• 1 cup chocolate chips, optional

How to:

• Preheat oven to 350.

• In a blender, combine, eggs, bananas, olive oil, apple sauce and spinach. Blend until smooth.

• In a large combine the remaining ingredients and give that a stir before pouring in the blended wet ingredients. Mix well.

• Divide into a muffin pan (I use these) — OR you can make donuts! and pop them into the oven for about 15 minutes if using the mini ones. If using a larger muffin pan, bake closer to 30 min. Check the with a toothpick because the muffin pan size does matter.

• Let them cool and enjoy! Store them in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

Let’s break it down—

What Are Macros?

Macronutrients are the three main nutrients that provide energy (calories) to our body. They are the building blocks of a healthy diet and include:

1. Carbohydrates

Carbs are your body’s primary source of energy.

The carbs in food get broken down into glucose, a simple sugar, in the digestive system. Glucose is then absorbed into the blood stream and transported to cells, where it is used for energy. The body stores excess glucose in the liver and muscles as glycogen, which can be converted back to glucose when energy is needed.

When choosing your carbs, you want to prioritize complex carbs over simple carbs.

2. Proteins

Protein is essential for muscle repair and growth, as well as immune function.

Proteins in food are broken down into pieces called amino acids. The body uses them to build new proteins with specific functions, such as starting chemical reactions, helping cells communicate or transporting things within the body. When there is a shortage of fats or carbohydrates in the diet, proteins can also be used for energy.

3. Fats

Fats are crucial for hormone regulation, brain health, and absorbing vitamins. Healthy fats are found in foods like avocados, olive oil, nuts, seeds, and fatty fish. Fatty acids that aren't needed right away are packaged in bundles called triglycerides and stored in fat cells, which have unlimited capacity.

YOUR NEW FAVORITE MUFFIN RECIPE:

Packed with good ingredients, higher in protein than other muffin recipes and are LIGHT, so you’ll feel good reaching for one as an on-the-go breakfast option or snack.

+ 1 ripe banana, mashed

+ 2 eggs

+ 1 cup greek yogurt

+ 1 cup apple sauce

+ 1 tbsp vanilla paste

+ 2 cups einkorn flour (low gluten index, high protein and easier to digest)

+ 2 tsp baking powder

+ 1 tsp baking soda

+ pinch of salt

+ flavor of choice - frozen wild blueberries are my personal fav but you can do anything - chocolate chips, banana and walnut, dried cranberries…

For the crumble: combine 1/2 cup almond flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup olive oil

+start by mashing the banana and adding in all of the wet ingredients then adding in the dry ingredients. Mix well. In a separate small bowl, combine the crumble ingredients. Pour the muffin batter into a muffin pan, top with the crumble using your hands and bake for 20-22 minutes on 350F.

Fitness Tip: Let’s use daylight savings to our advantage and incorporate a little challenge for the week— 30 minutes of walking added to the calendar. Take a walk after dinner, bring the kids, during your lunch break, add it to a workout you already have scheduled, pull out that walking pad during a call. However you can manage to add in just 30 more minutes of walking, try it!

WORKOUT WITH ME!

Motherhood Tip: stop eating your kids leftovers!! I used to call the crust of my kids sandwich lunch and that’s not ok. When making your kids a meal, make yourself one too and don’t over complicate it. When I make my girls breakfast, I prioritize protein to benefit all of us. I’ll boil a bunch of eggs (refrigerate the ones we don’t eat for a snack later on), mash some avocado and serve that with some crackers and fruit. I try to meal prep my lunches because I try to get as much done as possible during school hours and we all eat an early dinner together. Making multiple meals is exhausting and really doesn’t benefit anyone at the end of the day.

Beauty Tip: I recently got the Jones Road What The Foundation (color: light) and have to say I totally understand the hype. Add some of the Merit Cream Blush (color: cheeky) on your cheekbones, down the center of your nose, eyelids and a touch on the lips and you have yourself a glowy morning look in under two minutes.

Let’s break it down—

starting with veggies - I like to have 2-3 with my meals and try to keep them colorful. This week I baked asparagus with a drizzle of olive oil, salt and garlic powder. Bell peppers with olive oil and sea salt. And Zucchini cubed with olive oil, salt and grated Parmesan cheese. All on a parchment paper lined baking sheet for about 20 minutes on 375F.

Moving onto carbs. If I’m being honest, I used to be afraid of carbs and tried to eat as little as possible. Carbs are the body’s primary source of energy and the key is to focus on complex (good) carbs. For this week’s rice recipe — chop a yellow onion, melt 1 tbsp butter and saute for a few minutes until the onion turns translucent. Bring an entire carton of vegetable broth (4 cups) to boil, rinse 2 cups of Jasmine rice then add to the boiling broth and cover. Lower the heat and cook for about 15 minutes until the rice has absorbed the broth. Salt to taste.

Grilled chicken breast can be boring, but there are ways to spice it up, literally. I personally like to slice the breast thin and play with a combination of spices. This week, I combined a generous tbsp of salt, garlic powder, oregano, parsley and paprika (about a tsp of each) and sprinkled it on each side, then grilled them on a grill pan with some butter. I aim for about 5oz of cooked chicken breast (44g of protein) per meal.

For the add-on’s, pickled anything is a must (a personal preference) and this week it’s red onions. Slice a red onion very thin and find a mason jar (must be glass), fill half the jar with red wine vinegar, a generous tbsp of salt, 1 tsp peppercorns, 1 tsp honey or maple syrup, 1 lime squeezed, then fill the rest of the jar with hot water. Give it a good shake and refrigerate. I literally add these to everything.

Cucumber and herb salad — peel and chop a good amount of cucumbers into a large bowl (I used an entire pack of the mini ones), mince your favorite fresh herbs (I combined a generous amount of dill, parsley and mint), drizzle with olive oil, half a lemon’s juice, splash of red wine vinegar, 1 tbsp flakey sea salt.

And finally - cute glass containers to store the goods.

Nutrition Tip—

Start your morning with a cup of bone broth before caffeine. Heat up a cup and sip on it in a coffee cup while you do your morning routine. 1 cup = 10g protein, it’s great for gut health, digestion, skin health and so much more. My personal favorite is Brodo.

Fitness Tip—

+ Elevate your walks with my favorite belly sweat band. If you’re on the treadmill, 30 minutes on speed 3.2, 2.0 incline. I also use this time to scroll and catch up on news, etc. It feels more productive than sitting on my phone.

Being my sixth? time back in Paris, and my first time there with Louis, we wanted a hotel central to our itinerary with amazing amenities and 10/10 concierge to help with bookings, etc. This was definitely a bougie choice and one I would stay at again- especially for the location and views.

A personal request from my husband—this Jet Dry Mini Blower. It’s small but mighty and fits perfectly in your car’s glove compartment. Great for the men who love a clean car.

This Rolex pool float will definitely make him smile. If the real thing isn’t in your budget, this gift if the next best thing. And if he needs an electric air pump to go along with it, this one also doubles as a tire inflator!!

If he’s into watches, but is more of the studious type, this coffee table book is a great addition to the home or his office.
