With the power of our new social status, we feel responsible to take things up a notch, and have wrangled ourselves a professional Karaoke Jockey: Judy Jitsu, Eugene’s karaoke queen who packs a punch! She dazzles with high kicks, killer moves, and a whole lot of sass. Whether she’s slaying the stage or hosting Queer Karaoke Thursdays at Ojisan, she’s here to make you laugh, cheer, and leave you breathless!

🥶 A note on Weather

The forecast calls for ~40deg and rain. Sorry, folks; we’re calling this one off.

The days are shorter, the air is crisp enough to bite back, and the city is starting to twinkle in that specific, frantic way it does every December. But we’re not ready to retreat to our living rooms just yet. We’ve got one more ride in the tank—and this one comes with a side of tinsel.

Wrap your bike in those battery-powered LEDs, dig out the loudest festive sweater you own, and join us for A Very Merry Bike Path Karaoke. We’re turning the bike path into a rolling winter wonderland, and yes, we will be singing Mariah Carey at 15mph.

📍 The Game Plan

• When: Tuesday, Dec 23rd | Meetup @ 5:15 PM

• Start: The Washington-Jefferson skate park

• The Route: We’ll take a shorter route that sticks to the smoothest, flattest parts of the path, which should be friendly to folks on two, three, or even eight wheels.

🎤 The Setlist

Think: Wham!, vintage Bing Crosby remixes, and maybe a little “808s & Holiday Heartbreak.” If it’s got a jingle or a heavy bassline, we’re playing it. To make sure we have your track(s) queued up, please RSVP.

🧤 The Vibe

• Dress Code: Festive maximalism. Tinsel streamers? Essential. Reindeer antlers on your helmet? Highly encouraged. Thermal leggings? Pretty good idea.

• The Gear: Bring your lights, your sweetest singing voice, and a thermos full of, uh, “cheer.”

If you haven’t done Bike Path Karaoke yet, this might be your last chance for awhile; it’s hard to tell if we’ll find good weather, wherewithal, and a non-competitive date until next Spring…

So mark your calendar, check out the route, practice your go-to track, and meet up at WJ Skatepark on the last day of summer for a rolling musical extravaganza!

Also, thanks all who attended/performed/jockeyed the August ride; it was a hoot!

Special thanks to our KJ Justin, the Jockeys: Brian and Bas, Emma (who reminded us to air up the trike’s tires), and all the Performers: Rickdawg, Rachel, J Dogg, Katherine, Claire, Tommie, Keara, Azah, Meowgan, Jaren, Ari, and a couple ad-hoc performers who we added mid-ride.

It was such a Good Time, we decided to make it a Thing We Do. It’ll be about once a month, if the weather’s good and there’s nothing else going on.

If you want to mark your calendar, the next ride will be Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm. We’ll do basically the same route as last time, but with a few more miles of bike path, for extra stage time.

Do you want to support the ride in general? For one, you can help us spread the word. Also, we need two “Bike Jockeys”—people to ride performers’ bikes for them while they’re on the trike. It’s an essential role and a fun way to meet people and their bikes. It helps to be a tallish, experienced rider. If that sounds like you, RSVP and check the box marked “actually, I’d like to volunteer as a Bike Jockey.” Below, Bas expertly Jockeys Keara’s bike.

What is Bike Path Karaoke?

Next ride: Thursday 7/24, 7:30 pm Route

A community ride for karaoke performers and appreciators, BPK is a rolling musical extravaganza! At the center of the ride is a mobile stage (aka Party Trike). Party Trike has a 4' x 5' platform, full 360-degree safety rail, disco lights, a 1000-watt PA, two wireless microphones, and an iPad for lyrics. Performers start off on their bikes and take turns boarding the trike; while a performer is aboard, our Bike Jockey rides their bike for them. To keep the tunes rolling, we invite performers to sign up in advance, even if they only might perform, so we can queue their track up on a saved playlist. Nonetheless, if folks get inspired "in the moment," our KJ can queue their track up on the fly.

What’s the route?

Our route is a flat, 7-mile loop of the Ruth Bascomb bike path, with a couple of neighborhood streets at the beginning and end.

Why are you doing this? Is this a protest ride?

BPK exists because it can; we have the technology, community, and infrastructure to have a rolling bike party, so why not? This is not a protest ride.

Is it safe? Can I bring my kids?

BPK strives to observe all best practices for safe riding. At the same time, the vibe, distance, and pace might not be appropriate for some youngsters.
