As summer winds down, I find myself looking back at what quietly shaped the last few months. Nothing dramatic. Mostly small, repeatable things: a stronger body, a signature scent, a brunch I never get tired of, and a concert I almost didn’t book.

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you know I’ve been working through Lauryn Bosstick’s limited-edition Pvolve program.

I’ve listened to her podcast for a while , so when she announced the collab, the aesthetic pulled me in first, but the philosophy is what made me stay.

I’m on week three of the 30-day series, and it’s changed how I think about strength training. For years, most of my movement came from Pilates. This is my first real introduction to weight training, and I’m already noticing more definition, better posture, a different kind of strength, it’s sustainable instead of exhausting.

The more I learn about muscle, especially as women age, the more it feels like one of the best investments we can make in our future selves.

One bonus I didn’t expect: Lilly started showing interest whenever she sees me working out. I love that she’s growing up seeing strength as just part of everyday life, not something you discover decades in.

Every city deserves a place like this.

I’ve been going since they opened near my old Pasadena neighborhood, and I’m so glad to see them thriving. Whether it’s a blowout, braids, or one of their head spa treatments, I leave calmer than I walked in.

A healthy scalp is where healthy hair growth starts.

But it’s also about giving yourself permission to be taken care of for an hour. The scalp massage alone is worth the appointment.

Simple. Protein. No decision fatigue.

What wasn’t already planned was this.

Backstory, because it’s too funny not to tell: earlier this year, Justin surprised me with tickets to Olivia Dean. Before she won her Grammy, he knew I loved her and got tickets like the sweetest husband on earth. A couple months later, casually, he tells me he actually never bought them. He thought he did. He did not. It’s been the running joke of our year, the concert we were “going to” that didn’t exist. Lol

Our summer started June 10th with two weeks on the road. Zion, Driggs, Idaho , Bozeman, Montana, Yellowstone, Park City, last stop-Vegas . We came home for about a week. Then we packed up again for a weekend up north celebrating our nephew’s first birthday. Home again for a week. And now we’re packed up once more, headed to Vegas. Somewhere in the middle of all of it, Olivia Dean’s tour landed in Vegas instead of LA like we thought.

There was a version of this summer where we were supposed to be in Switzerland instead , we actually started looking at flights for a trip there. We started planning it, gotten genuinely excited about it, and then somewhere along the way it just stopped making sense. Nothing crazy, it just didn’t feel like the right yes anymore. So we let it go. That’s not usually how I operate. I like a plan. I like knowing. This whole summer has quietly become a lesson in loosening that grip.

So when the kids’ weekend came back up on the calendar, already set, already planned, Olivia Dean wasn’t actually an immediate yes either. We sat with it. Ticket prices, timing, whether we could really pull off a kid-free weekend in Vegas of all places. But everything kept pointing the same direction, quietly, until the pull was louder than the hesitation. So we booked it, and honestly, we’d already been saying we wanted an excuse to come back to Vegas without the kids, so this felt like the universe handing us one.

I met with Molly a couple weeks ago, in the middle of all this back-and-forth. She’s been my mentor and one of my dearest friends, and she has this way of seeing the highest version of me before I can always see it myself, and pushing me toward that version instead of letting me settle. Something she says: I am the programmer of my own life. The designer of it. Not something happening to me that I react to, but something I’m actively building, choice by choice.

That’s what following the pull to Vegas actually was, underneath the logistics, not impulsiveness, but designing the summer on purpose, even when the plan changes mid-build.

This is what Her Legacy actually means to me, underneath it all. It’s about this, an imprint left everywhere I go, or something I get to carry home with me. Sometimes both. A trip that started in June and hasn’t really stopped.

That’s the legacy I want to leave. A summer full of yeses, stacked one on top of the other!

I’m a mom of two, the founder of Her Legacy, a women’s apparel brand I’m building from scratch and someone who believes that how you show up to anything matters. This Newsletter is where I think out loud about all of it: the brand, family life, and the small intentional choices that add up to something worth remembering.

We’re on the road right now. Five states, two kids, and a husband who is fully along for the ride and a very willing participant haha!

I’ve always been a “theme packer” in theory. I’d mentally build outfits around a trip vibe, make a loose list, then basically panic-pack the day before and end up bringing six things I never touched. Sound familiar?

This time was different. For the first time I was actually, fully, intentionally this deliberate, and I can already feel it. I haven’t tested every outfit yet, but I’m more confident about how I packed for this trip than I have ever been before. The decisions are made. The chaos is edited out before it starts. Now I just get to show up.

Here’s exactly how I did it.

Step 1: Start with the location’s identity, not your closet.

Before I touched a single item of clothing, I asked: what is this trip, actually? Not the itinerary, the feeling.

Red canyon walls and the Virgin River at Zion. The quiet side of the Tetons in Driggs, unhurried, authentically western, the kind of town that makes you want to slow down. The earthy wildness of Yellowstone, where bison cross the road and geysers go off like clockwork and everything feels ancient. The creative, quietly cool energy of Bozeman, western boutiques, art galleries, good food, and no pretence.

I landed on: heritage meets adventure. Elevated but effortless. Earth tones, natural textures, nothing that fights the scenery.

That became my filter for everything.

Step 2: Find two or three anchor pieces that match that identity.

With the vibe clear, I identified the pieces that felt like the center of gravity, the ones everything else would orbit. For this trip that meant a brown suede bomber, a geometric print jumper, and a camel jumper that could go literally anywhere.

Don’t start with quantity. Start with the pieces that feel most right for this specific trip. Everything else builds from there.

Step 3: Pull everything out. Physically.

Packing day I laid out every candidate on the bed, clothes, shoes, accessories. All of it visible at once.

Then I edited against the palette. Does this fit the color story? Does it work with at least two other things I’m bringing? Is it functional for what we’re actually doing, hikes, long drives, campfire nights?

This is where overpacking dies. When it’s all in front of you, the “just in case” items become obvious immediately.

Step 4: Build the mood board to tie it all together.

This is the part I want to tell everyone about.

I used Claude, an AI, to turn everything I’d laid out into actual mood boards. One per person. I uploaded photos of all the pieces, then used a prompt.

It pulled everything together, the palette, the identity, the styling logic. You can take those outputs into Canva or just save them as your reference. I made one for me, one for Justin, and yes, one for each of the kids! Ha

Step 5: Let the board do the work on the road.

I’m not digging through bags trying to figure out what to wear each morning. The decisions are already made. I just show up.

That’s the whole shift , from reactive to intentional. And when you feel genuinely confident in how you packed before the trip even starts, it changes how present you are in the moments that actually matter.

This was genuinely the first time I was this thorough with it. And I won’t go back.

Whether you love this kind of planning or you’re the woman who dreads packing entirely, this process works for both of you. The steps are simple. The AI does more than you’d expect. And the result is a trip where you feel like yourself from day one.

Not because I didn’t want to celebrate six years married with Justin. I really did. But the beginning of the year has a way of making you feel like you haven’t quite earned the right to step away yet. There’s always something. One more thing to close out, one more fire to put out, one more reason to wait just a little longer before you let yourself exhale.

I’m glad we didn’t wait.

Though I’ll be honest with you. Sedona didn’t exactly roll out the welcome mat. At least not right away.

Some things came up before we even settled in. Circumstances outside of our control, the kind that have nothing to do with where you are and everything to do with the reality of building a life and a business simultaneously. There was a moment, maybe more than one, where the weight of it all felt heavier than either of us wanted to carry on what was supposed to be a celebration.

But here’s what I’ve learned about the Both/And concept I’ve mentioned before. It doesn’t ask your permission. It just shows up. And you either resist it or you let it teach you something.

We let it teach us.

The red rocks have a way of doing that. Something about being in a place that vast and that ancient makes your problems feel appropriately sized. Not small, just right-sized. Manageable. Workable. Yours to carry but not yours to be crushed by.

We found our footing. We always do.

On the second day, I took a Her Legacy call.

On our anniversary trip, I opened my laptop, found a warm corner of our atrium flooded with light and red rock views, and connecting with the woman who has been one of the most energetically aligned relationships in this entire journey of bringing The Legacy Shirt to life. This call opened doors I wasn't anticipating.

She made introductions. A fabric showroom I'm now planning to visit. A button and embroidery specialist whose work could elevate the shirt in ways that feel so aligned with the vision I've been carrying. Samples are the next milestone, and the details, the trims, the finishing touches that make something feel truly considered, are coming into focus in the most beautiful way.

I sat there, red rocks visible through the glass, talking about fabric, the craft, and the next chapter. I didn’t feel one ounce of guilt about it.

Her Legacy isn’t something I go to. It’s something I carry everywhere. It’s woven into how I move through every season of my life now, including this one.

Then we accidentally went on a four-hour hike.

I say accidentally because we genuinely got a little lost. What started as a manageable trail became something much longer, much harder, and so much more extraordinary than anything we could have planned. We laughed at ourselves. We kept going. We found our way.

Somewhere deep in those four hours, tired and a little turned around with the whole valley stretched out around us, Justin said something that landed in me like a quiet truth I’d been waiting to hear out loud.

“We could have a much simpler life.”

And I looked at him and said: “We chose full.”

We just stood there for a moment, feeding off that between us. Not performing it for anyone. Just recognizing it together. The complexity, the beauty, the hard mornings and the four-hour hikes you didn't plan, all of it is the result of choices we made on purpose. Leaps of faith. Bets on ourselves. Trust that something greater than us is co-creating all of this alongside us.

That morning I had written in my gratitude journal, a five-minute daily practice Justin and I were just beginning together, using the journals our dear friend Molly had gifted us, a single line:

There is no light without darkness.

Standing on that trail, a little lost and completely alive, I understood exactly why it had come to me.

We started every morning in Sedona with those journals.

Five minutes. Side by side. No agenda, no phones, just presence and a pen.

I wrote about what was coming through on those hikes. About Her Legacy and why I’m building it. About the woman I’m becoming in this season and the life I want to keep choosing, even when it asks more of me than I expected.

There is something about being truly present in nature, especially when you didn’t plan to be out there as long as you were, that strips everything down to what’s actually true. The noise falls away. What remains is the stuff that matters.

What remained for me: I am exactly where I'm supposed to be. I am co-creating this life with God, with the universe, with something I can't always see but have learned to trust completely. The confirmation of that doesn't always come in the quiet moments. Sometimes, most of the time honestly, it comes in the hard ones.

On our final morning, we went up.

A hot air balloon over Sedona at sunrise. Red rocks stretching in every direction as far as you could see. Justin beside me. No agenda, nothing to navigate, nothing to solve.

Just the two of us. Above all of it.

Full. Completely, entirely full.

That’s the word I keep coming back to. Not perfect. Not easy. Not resolved.

Full.

And I wouldn’t trade it for anything simpler.

My Love Letter to Sedona

Consider this my love letter to Sedona. Everything we did, where we stayed, what I’d do again, and what I’d honestly skip.

Let’s start with where we stayed because it really set the tone for everything.

Ambiente is a landscape hotel, and I say that because it’s genuinely unlike any hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Your room is a private glass atrium elevated above the landscape, with floor-to-ceiling views of the red rocks on every side. Every morning you press a button and the blackout curtains open to what honestly feels like waking up inside a painting. We had a rooftop terrace with a fire pit and daybed that we used to stargaze.

It’s adults only, which was everything, and they include an $80 daily breakfast credit at their on-site restaurant Forty1. We used it every morning and most days enjoyed it slowly in our room. The Velvet Spa is on property. I got my very first facial there and already decided it’s an anniversary tradition going forward. Every year.

Where we stayed: Ambiente Sedona

Day 1

After we checked in and got settled, we headed to Airport Mesa Vortex for sunset. The loop trail puts you right at the edge with the whole sky in front of you. It was the perfect first Sedona moment and honestly felt immediately like we made the right call coming here.

Dinner was at Broome & Orchard. Great food, good vibe, exactly what we needed for a first night.

And make friends with your Ambiente shuttle driver. Ours gave us some hidden gem recommendations.

Day 2

We started at Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village. It’s this beautiful Spanish colonial village with cobblestone walkways and little galleries and shops tucked everywhere. We stumbled into a wine tasting shop and ended up having the best conversation with the guy working there. He gave us real local insight, what to do, what to skip, and specifically steered us away from the overly popular Instagram hikes that aren’t worth the crowds. That kind of honest local intel is everything.

Then we hiked. Sort of accidentally for four hours.

The parking lot at the main Cathedral Rock trailhead was completely full so we pivoted to Yavapai, which turned what’s normally a 1.2 mile hike into 5 miles round trip. We got a little lost. We laughed about it. We kept going. We hit the summit right at golden hour and watched the sunset from the hike back. One of those unplanned moments that becomes the whole trip.

We came back and ordered room service :)

Day 3

Breakfast at Forty1 using our hotel credit, then lunch at Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill. This one is worth planning ahead for. It’s Sedona’s only restaurant with a dress code, the food is wood-fired Latin cuisine, and we sat outside with panoramic red rock views that were so beautiful I kept putting my fork down just to look. Make a reservation.

After lunch we did Fay Canyon and it felt like a completely different energy than the day before. Short, quiet, towering canyon walls on both sides and a hidden arch tucked inside. We basically had the trail to ourselves. Exactly what we needed.

That night we stargazed from our rooftop terrace. Sedona is one of only 20 certified Dark Sky Communities in the world and the conditions that night were perfect. Just us, the fire pit, and the sky.

Dinner was Tortas de Fuego, the hidden gem our shuttle driver pointed us to. Local, family-owned, authentic Mexican food.

Day 4

5am alarm. Willingly.

The sunrise hot air balloon with Red Rock Balloons was everything. We met at 6:15am, lifted off as the sun came up, and landed around 9:30am with a champagne toast. Sedona from above at sunrise is something that’s hard to put into words. Just do it if you go.

Breakfast at Forty1 one last time, then the Velvet Spa. A full yes.

We also stopped at the Chapel of the Holy Cross. It's architecturally built right into the red rock cliffs and visually it's stunning. Just know that it draws significant crowds and the experience reflects that. Something to factor into your planning.

The hidden gem of the whole day was Secret Slickrock Trail. A plateau above Red Rock Crossing with direct views of Cathedral Rock at golden hour. It was our last Sedona sunset and it was the perfect send-off.

We closed the trip at Hideaway House. Italian, wood-fired pizza, margaritas, patio under the stars. Exactly the right ending to exactly the right trip.

For years, I held this close. Only a handful of people knew what I was building. Then a few more. Then a few more after that. Each time I said it out loud, it became more real.

But sharing it publicly, with everyone, that was different.

And what happened next is what I can’t stop thinking about.

The response.

People got it. Immediately.

I didn’t have to overexplain. I didn’t have to pitch it or defend it or walk anyone through why. Women I hadn’t spoken to in years reached out. People I didn’t expect to hear from told me they felt something when they saw it. Friends, family, acquaintances, they just understood.

That’s never happened to me before. Not like this.

I’ve had jobs that looked impressive on paper. I’ve had titles. And the whole time there was this quiet pull underneath everything else, this feeling that I was supposed to be creating something of my own. I just couldn't name it yet.

I was done performing purpose. I wanted to actually live it.

Ten years ago I told my mom about this dream on the cobblestone streets of San Miguel de Allende. And for a long time, I thought I wasn’t ready. Maybe I wasn’t. But I think the truth is I was becoming the woman who could build it.

And now she’s here.

What's happening behind the scenes.

Both manufacturers, one in LA, one in NYC, have agreed to take on the project. My production manager is coordinating everything. I'm waiting on final pricing from both, and once that comes in, we'll make the call on where the white button-down gets made.

Every door that didn't open led me to the ones that did.

One more thing.

Lilly had her poem party at school recently. She played a guitar piece she taught herself on YouTube. No lessons. She just looked it up and figured it out.

I sat there watching her, this little girl who’s been in every chapter of this story, standing up in front of her class and playing something she built from nothing.

That’s the whole point, isn’t it.

This is bigger than me. I knew that from the beginning. But when I heard the response, I felt it in every bone in my body.

I stepped away over the holidays, not from life, but from the digital world. I needed to be in it. And now I’m back with a lot to catch you up on :)

Last year, my word was Foundation.

This year? Embody.

I thought about “aligned” first, but it felt too... passive. Like something I’d think about but not feel. I wanted a word that lived in my body. One I could actually practice.

Embody found me.

And looking back at December, I realize I was already doing it.

A few nights ago, Justin and I were going over the calendar. I was telling him about the holiday dinner I had with girlfriends. The new friendships I’ve been nurturing. Our second annual mom besties dinner. A couples dinner that turned into one of those nights you don’t want to end. Our anniversary trip we’re planning for the end of February (Portugal is on the list). A concert a friend invited us to later this year.

I was talking fast. Excited. Fully in my element.

Justin looked at me and said, “When you talk, I just hear dollar signs.”

I laughed. “What , you don’t want me to have a life?”

He said, “Do you have to have SUCH a life?”

We both cracked up.

But here’s the thing. I do. I really do.

For years, I wished for this. Not just any friendships, the kind that make you better. People who inspire you. Challenge you. Hold space for whatever season you’re in. The kind of dinner you leave feeling fuller than when you arrived.

In December, I stopped wishing and started building. I mapped out the month with intention. Said yes to what filled me up. Protected my energy from what didn’t.

It worked.

2025 was foundation in more ways than one. We moved into a new home , our sanctuary. I had space to breathe, to think, to create. And somewhere in that settling, the thing I’d been carrying for a decade started to take shape.

I couldn’t see the full picture back then. Just a feeling. A pull toward something I couldn’t name.

Then this past October, it crystallized.

A couple newsletters ago, I told you I was building something. That I was creating a white button-down shirt, not just any shirt, but one made right. Fabric that matters. Designed to move through your entire day. For women building their legacies while honoring the women who came before.

I meant every word.

And while I was having dinners and being present over the holidays, that vision kept moving.

I opened the files and just sat there.

Everything I’d been carrying, finally real. My name on those documents. Professional technical sketches of something I’d only ever seen in my head.

Then came the redirect.

The manufacturer I’d been connected to, the one I was energetically committed to, reached out to say her team wasn’t the right fit for my production.

It stung. I wanted it to work.

But what I realized was, the quality of those technical packages showed her exactly where this is headed. It wasn’t the right match. And she was honest enough to say so before we got too deep.

She connected me with another manufacturer lead. A manufacturer in NYC who gets my aesthetic, my standards, the level of construction this requires.

We’re exploring that now.

Doors close. Other ones open. You keep moving.

Last year was foundation , the move, the vision, the plan.

This year is about embodying it.

Not just planning the life I want. Experiencing it.

Not just talking about intentional style. Wearing it.

Not just wishing for community. Creating it, one dinner, one yes, one conversation at a time.

The week before Thanksgiving, it had been raining in LA, which almost never happens, and I was tearing the house apart looking for Lilly’s puffer jacket.

We were about to drive seven hours up to the Sierra Nevada and I couldn’t find it anywhere. The night before we left, I told Justin maybe we should just order one and hope it arrives in time. He said no it’s ok, we’ll figure it out.

I let it go. Reluctantly.

The drive up the 395 was everything. Seven hours of winding through the Sierra Nevada, stopping in small towns, stretching our legs, finding little cafes. The kind of road trip that makes you remember why you love California.

We stopped for breakfast at this cute spot somewhere along the way. Two women were sitting at the table next to us, finishing up. They said their goodbyes and one of them left.

Then she came back in holding a jacket.

She showed it to her friend, then turned to Lilly and me and said, “Do you want it? It’s my daughter’s, she’s 9, and she’s outgrown it.”

Lilly’s face lit up. Mine did too.

“We were actually looking for one,” I said, laughing.

She tried it on. It fit perfectly. Reversible. Great brand. And just like that, we had exactly what we needed, handed to us by a stranger in a tiny mountain town.

That’s how the trip started.

The town we stayed in had wild horses in the neighborhood. Just wandering through, unbothered. Snow on the mountains. No rush. No noise.

We took a day trip to Lake Tahoe and I stood at the edge of the water for a while. There’s a spaciousness to that lake that’s hard to put into words, like your whole body exhales just being near it.

I didn’t realize how much I needed the slow. The quiet. The permission to stop producing and just be.

The morning after we got home, I sat at the kitchen table with a notecard and two white shirts I’ve been holding onto for months.

I wrote a note to my pattern maker, describing what I’m looking for—the ease of one, the structure of the other, and what I hope lives in between.

Then I wrapped them up, drove to the post office, and sent them off.

It felt like the trip gave me what I needed to finally move.

I keep thinking about that woman in the cafe.

Her daughter had outgrown the jacket. She could’ve held onto it, just in case, for memories, because it was a good brand. But she didn’t. She released it. And in doing so, she gave us exactly what we needed.

That’s the thing about letting go. It’s not just about you. Sometimes what you release becomes exactly what someone else has been searching for.

I went into it thinking most people wouldn’t care as much about style as I do.

What happened instead surprised me.

One woman shared that after doing deep inner work over the years, she’s changed what she allows in her closet. She only wears organic cotton and cashmere now. She laughed and said she feels snobbish about it.

I told her: That’s not snobbish. That’s being educated and making conscious choices.

Here’s what I realized: When you do the inner work of becoming who you’re meant to be, you naturally start caring about what touches your skin.

It’s not vanity. It’s alignment.

The day before that circle, I had a meeting with a woman who owns a textile manufacturing facility in Ohio and a Fabric studio here in LA.

She’s doing something remarkable: restoring an old church and transforming it into a manufacturing facility, creating jobs for women, running intensive training programs, bringing manufacturing back to America.

During our conversation, she started teaching me about cotton in ways I’d never thought about before.

I’d always assumed organic cotton was the gold standard. But she told me about regenerative cotton—a term I’d heard of but wasn’t too familiar with.

She explained: Organic cotton is about what you don’t use—no synthetic pesticides, no chemical fertilizers. That’s important. But regenerative cotton is about what you restore. It’s about healing the soil, bringing back biodiversity, creating a system that actually gives back to the land instead of just taking from it.

Some organic farms, she said, are still depleting the soil, they’re just doing it without chemicals. Regenerative farming is different. It’s about making the land healthier with every harvest.

I’m learning that quality isn’t just about what’s on the label, it’s about understanding what you’re actually choosing and why.

When you’re becoming someone, when you’re stepping into a new chapter, a new identity, a new way of showing up, you start paying attention differently.

You notice what feels aligned and what doesn’t.

That’s what intentional style actually is. It’s not about trends or rules. It’s about listening.

I’m learning all of this because I’m building something.

I’m creating a white button-down shirt.

There. I said it. Publicly. For the first time.

Not just any white shirt, one that’s made right. One that uses fabric that matters. One that’s designed to move through your entire day, whether you have a morning meeting, a creative project in the afternoon, or you’re picking up your kids from school.

I’m starting with the white button-down because it’s the staple. The piece that works no matter what. The foundation.

And I’m thinking about the women who need clothes that work as hard as they do, women who are creating their legacies right now. Building businesses. Raising families. Navigating transitions. Becoming who they’re meant to be.

This is about honoring the women building their legacies while honoring the women who came before us.

I’m working with manufacturers who care about quality. I’m learning about fabric that actually lasts. I’m making choices that align with what I believe: that the things we wear should reflect who we’re becoming, not just what’s trending.

The kids got sick the first week of the month, just the back-and-forth illness that comes with school and changing weather. But enough to keep us home. Enough to make me step back from everything I had planned.

And with the holidays right around the corner, I assumed that was the message: slow down. Be present. Let some things wait.

Then my kids got better.

And an email came through, the manufacturer I’ve been waiting to hear back from. She wants to meet. This week. In person.

Suddenly, November isn’t about slowing down. It’s about learning to hold both.

Both: Being present when my kids need me.
And: Showing up for the meeting that could change everything.

Both: Honoring the pull to rest as we head into the holidays.
And: Not letting momentum slip when opportunities open.

Both: Knowing when to pause.
And: Knowing when to accelerate.

This isn’t balance. Balance suggests equal weight, a perfect 50/50 split that never actually exists.

This is integration. Learning to move with what each moment requires, without guilt, without apology, without pretending it’s easy.

Here’s what the season of both/and looked like so far:

My kids were sick. I canceled plans. I stepped away from social media. I was fully present—not because I’m a perfect mom, but because that’s what the moment required.

And: I kept moving forward on what I’m building. Emails. Research. Planning. The kind of quiet work that doesn’t show up on Instagram but matters just as much.

The holidays are coming. I want to be present for them. To let Thanksgiving be Thanksgiving and December be December.

And: I have a meeting this week that could lock in the manufacturer I’ve been waiting for. Which means I need to show up, prepared, focused, ready to make decisions that will shape what I’m creating.

I need rest. October felt like acceleration—content, momentum, conversations moving faster than I could keep up with.

And: I can’t afford to slow down completely. Not when things are finally falling into place. Not when the work I’ve been doing for months is starting to move from vision to reality.

You don’t get to choose just one. You have to learn to hold both.

Some days, that means putting the kids first and letting work wait.

Other days, it means showing up for the meetings and trusting that your family understands.

The skill isn’t balance. It’s discernment, knowing which moment requires which energy, and giving yourself fully to whatever you choose.

Permission to Hold Both

If you’re feeling the tension of both/and right now—the pull between rest and momentum, presence and ambition, slowing down and showing up—I want you to know: you’re not doing it wrong.

You’re not failing because you can’t maintain October’s pace in November.

You’re not falling behind because you chose to be present when your kids were sick.

You’re not losing momentum because you’re honoring the season and taking time for what matters.

But you’re also not giving up on what you’re building.

You’re not abandoning your vision because life gets full.

You’re not quitting because it’s hard to hold both.

This is what integration looks like. Not perfect balance. Not having it all figured out. But learning to move between presence and momentum without guilt.

The holidays are coming. You’re allowed to rest.

And: You’re allowed to keep building.

Both: Show up for the moments that matter with your family.
And: Show up for the opportunities that could change everything.

Both: Give yourself permission to pause.
And: Give yourself permission to accelerate when it’s time.

You don’t have to choose. You get to hold both.

The season of both/and isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about showing up fully for whatever the moment requires.

We’d had great conversations. They understood the vision. I was ready to move forward with something I’ve been working on for a while.

Then the email came: They couldn’t take on my project right now. Capacity issues. Timing wasn’t right.

I sat with my laptop open, staring at that email. And I felt it, rejection.

I let myself feel it. The sting. The disappointment. The here we go again feeling that comes with closed doors.

And then I moved on.

Because here’s what happened next: The CEO stepped in. Without hesitation, she connected me to someone else, a manufacturer who might be exactly what I need.

I’m still waiting to hear back. Days later, I don’t know yet if this referral will work out.

But what struck me wasn’t the uncertainty. It was this: When one door closed, someone I respect opened another one. She didn’t have to do that. But she did.

And if this referral doesn’t work out? I’m optimistic she’ll connect me with someone else. Because that’s what people do when they believe in what you’re creating, they want to see you succeed.

What Redirects Actually Teach You

Here’s what I’m learning about closed doors:

They don’t always mean no. Sometimes they mean not like this or not yet or there’s someone better waiting to help you.

The first manufacturer couldn’t take on my project. But their CEO believed in it enough to connect me to someone who might.

I don’t know yet if it will work out. But I know that rejection led to someone advocating for me. And that matters.

Halloween night, I spent the evening with friends, our kids trick-or-treating while we walked and talked. And I realized: I’m not the only one navigating uncertainty right now.

We weren’t doom and gloom. But we were honest. About pivots. About not having all the answers yet. About the reality that creating anything meaningful right now means feeling the complexity and moving forward anyway.

What struck me was the permission we gave each other, not to have it figured out, but to keep going anyway.

The pattern I’m finally seeing:

Every setback has prepared me for what’s next. Every closed door redirected me toward something I couldn’t see yet.

• Corporate exit → Real estate → Learning to scale and lead

• Real estate team → Leadership skills → Proving I could execute

• First manufacturer setback → CEO referral → New possibilities opening

The redirects aren’t punishments. They’re recalibrations.

Maybe the thing you wanted that didn’t work out wasn’t meant to work out. Maybe you needed to meet someone else first. Learn something first. Become someone first.

I’m sitting in that space right now. Waiting to hear back from a referral. Not knowing if it will work out. But trusting that even if it doesn’t, the redirect is teaching me something.

The manufacturer that said no taught me: People believe in this vision enough to advocate for it, even when they can’t help directly. And that’s worth more than a yes from the wrong person.

And Halloween night reminded me: You don’t have to have it all figured out to keep moving forward. You just need to feel the uncertainty and take the next step anyway.

That’s not nothing.

Ten years ago, I stood on a cobblestone street in Mexico and told my mom: “I want to open a boutique here someday.”

Her face lit up. “Wow, that would be amazing. One day, it will be.”

She didn’t just hear my dream, she held it with me. And we’ve carried it together ever since.

The name of that restaurant? Mama Mia.

If you know, you know. The movie about dreams, mother-daughter bonds, and the courage to build something meaningful. About honoring the women who came before while creating something for the women who come after.

Standing there at 24—working as a service manager at Wells Fargo, no fashion experience, no business plan, I knew what I wanted to build. A place where all my favorite things lived in one space. I even had a name for it: Roots. Because as a kid who moved around a lot, I loved the idea of creating a home base.

But it always felt like a pipe dream. I never gave myself permission to truly feel into it.

Until last summer.

Last summer—July 2024—I returned to San Miguel de Allende.

Nine years after that photo with my mom, three generations walked those same cobblestone streets: my Mom, me, and my daughter Lilly.

We stood in front of shops. We talked about dreams. We soaked in the magic of that place together.

And something shifted. For the first time, I allowed myself to actually feel into that dream. To stop treating it like a “someday” and start treating it like something real.

I even started this newsletter while I was there—documenting the journey, sharing the vision, inviting people in.

But what’s emerged since that trip? It’s beyond what I could’ve visualized or imagined.

If You’ve Ever Felt Like You’re Behind...

Maybe you have a dream—big or small—that you’ve been carrying for years.

Maybe you look at other people launching their businesses, writing their books, starting their projects—and wonder why you’re still just... thinking about yours.

Maybe you feel behind. Like you should have started sooner. Like the window is closing.

I want to tell you something I’ve learned over the last 10 years:

The dream doesn’t disappear just because time passes. It deepens. And when you’re finally ready to feel into it? Everything accelerates.

What I Did During The “Waiting” Years

After that trip to Mexico in 2015, I didn’t open a boutique.

Instead, I spent five years at Cedars-Sinai, supporting the CEO of the Medical Network. I learned what leadership actually looks like from the inside. I watched how decisions get made at the highest level. I understood what it takes to build and protect a vision.

When he retired and moved to real estate, I followed. Two more years of learning about business, deals, relationships, what makes something sustainable.

In 2016, I became a mom. My daughter Lilly—named after my mom—arrived, and suddenly the dream wasn’t just for me anymore.

In 2020, I got married in Guanajuato, Mexico, not far from that same street where the dream started. And on my honeymoon, I resigned. No backup plan. Just knowing it was time.

In 2021, my son Camden was born.

By 2023, my husband had started a real estate team, and I joined to help grow and scale it. In one year, we went from 6 agents to 16. Proving I could lead. Proving I could turn vision into results.

And through all of it—the career changes, the babies, the team building—I kept carrying that vision from 2015.

I just never gave myself permission to actually pursue it.

The Summer Everything Shifted

Last summer—returning to San Miguel, walking those streets with my mom and daughter—I quantum leaped.

I’ve been proving to myself over and over that when I work hard and pour my good energy into something, it pays off.

I just needed to give myself permission to believe it could work for this dream too.

And yesterday? I had a meeting that brought it all one step closer.

What Happened Yesterday

I met with a fabric supplier in Los Angeles.

I brought my 9-year-old daughter with me, the one named after my mom, who believed in my dream 10 years before I was ready to pursue it.

And we found the fabric. Award-winning quality. The kind where shirts from the 90s are still around today because they were made to last.

I watched Lilly touch the samples. The same hands that will one day wear what I’m building.

And I thought: This is why it took 10 years.

Because I’m not just building a business anymore. I’m building something rooted in the wisdom of the women who came before me—my mom, her mother before her. Something I can pass down to my daughter.

Something about mother-daughter bonds. Multi-generational legacy. Pieces that last.

The dream from 2015 didn’t disappear. It just needed time to become what it was always supposed to be.

Here’s What I Keep Thinking About

At 24, I wasn’t ready to build what I’m building now.

I didn’t have the leadership experience. I didn’t understand quality or craftsmanship or what it takes to execute a vision. I didn’t know how to lead a team or make hard decisions or trust my own intuition.

At 35, I’m ready.

Not because the timing is perfect—there’s no such thing as perfect timing. Something will always come up to make you feel like it’s not the right moment.

But I’m as prepared as I can be. And when the opportunity came, I made it happen.

So If You’re Still Waiting...

Maybe your dream—whatever size it is—isn’t late.

Maybe it’s just getting ready. Maybe you’re just getting ready.

Maybe all those detours—the jobs that didn’t work out, the timing that felt wrong, the seasons that seemed wasted—maybe they were all preparing you for what you’re actually supposed to build.

There’s no such thing as perfect timing. But there is such a thing as being prepared when the opportunity comes.

And when you finally give yourself permission to feel into it? When you stop waiting for “someday” and start building today? Everything changes.

What I’m Learning To Ask Myself

Instead of: “Why is this taking so long?”

I’m asking: “What is this season teaching me that I’ll need later?”

Instead of: “Am I behind?”

I’m asking: “Am I more ready now than I was then?”

Instead of: “Is this the perfect time?”

I’m asking: “Am I as prepared as I can be right now?”

The answer is always yes.

P.S. That first photo at the top? I posted it to Instagram 10 years ago. That restaurant is called Mama Mia—and if you’ve seen the movie, you understand why that name meant everything. Sometimes the most important moments don’t make sense until years later.

I need to do a closet purge.

We moved in July, and I haven’t properly gone through my clothes since. Before the move, I was pretty good about it, regularly letting go of what didn’t fit anymore. But now? Everything’s just... there. Hanging in the closet, waiting for me to decide what stays.

I was talking with someone recently who just did her own closet purge. She said the clutter in her closet reflected the clutter in every other part of her life. The relief she felt wasn’t just about the space, it was about letting go of versions of herself she didn’t recognize anymore.

That hit me. Because I know exactly what she means.

The external clutter mirrors the internal. And I’m avoiding the purge because I know it’s not just about clothes, it’s about admitting which versions of myself I’m ready to let go of.

It’s Not Balance. It’s Integration.

Here’s what I’m learning: It’s not about balance.

Balance implies everything gets equal weight, equal time, equal attention. That’s the myth. The impossible standard that makes you feel like you’re failing at everything.

What actually works? Integration.

Not compartmentalizing your life into “work mode” and “mom mode” and “building mode.” But weaving them together in a way where you’re not constantly choosing one over the other.

This week, I had a manufacturing call in the morning about something I’m building. The next day, Justin and I drove up to wine country. Mother-in-law had the kids. We sat on a beautiful courtyard with red wine and golden light and …..I exhaled.

Both happened. Both mattered.

That’s integration. Not “I worked, so now I deserve to relax.” But “I’m building a life where both exist without guilt.”

What Makes Life Simple

Someone told me recently, “You make life look so simple.”

It caught me off guard. Because from the inside? It doesn’t always feel simple.

But maybe what looks simple is just what happens when you stop trying to do everything and start doing what actually fits.

I shared a framework recently: when you’re getting ready, you only need two out of three—hair, makeup, or a good outfit. Not all three. Just two.

The response? “That changed the game for me.”

That’s the kind of simple I’m after. Not minimalism for the aesthetic. Not “live with less” as a trend. But practical frameworks that make showing up in your actual life easier.

The pieces that work for your real life, not the one you think you should have.

The routines that help you move through your day without decision fatigue.

The clarity that comes from letting go of what doesn’t fit anymore.

The Pieces That Stay

So here’s what I’m working on, both in my closet purge (whenever I finally do it) and in what I’m building:

Keep only what helps you inhabit your life fully.

Not what looks good in theory. Not what you’re holding onto out of guilt. Not what fit who you used to be.

The things that make showing up easier. The pieces that last because they’re honest. The frameworks that simplify instead of complicate.

That’s what I’m after. In my closet. In how I build my days. In what I’m creating.

I don’t want to build a business that requires me to miss the moments that matter. I want to build something that makes those moments possible.

Quality over trends. Integration over balance. Pieces that stay because they work.

What I’m Building Toward

I’m building something around this idea. Something I’m not ready to fully reveal yet, but something rooted in this exact question: What are the pieces that stay?

Not just in your closet. In your life. In the legacy you’re creating.

Four years ago, I quit my corporate job.

I didn’t have another job lined up. I didn’t have a clear plan for what came next. I just knew that the version of myself who showed up to that office every day wasn’t the woman I was becoming. Something had to change.

What I didn’t expect was how much that shift would show up in my closet.

The Shift

Suddenly, the clothes I’d been wearing, the ones that felt “professional” and “appropriate”, didn’t fit anymore. Not physically. Emotionally.

They represented a version of myself I was shedding. The pencil skirts felt like a costume I no longer needed to wear.

I started dressing differently. Not dramatically. I didn’t throw everything out or reinvent myself overnight. But slowly, intentionally, I began choosing pieces that reflected who I was becoming rather than who I thought I should be.

A white shirt that felt substantial. Jeans that fit well and lasted. Pieces I could move through my day in- school drop-offs, meetings, family dinners, without feeling like I was playing a role.

It sounds small. But it wasn’t.

What Embodiment Actually Means

The way you show up physically in the world matters. Not because of how others see you, but because of how you see yourself.

When what you wear aligns with who you’re becoming, something shifts. You stop second-guessing. You stop adjusting. You just exist, fully, in your own skin.

I’ve been thinking a lot about embodiment and what it means to actually inhabit your life instead of just moving through it. To be present in your body, your choices, your days. To build a life that reflects what actually matters to you, not what you think should matter.

For me, that started with leaving corporate. It continued with how I dressed. And now, it’s showing up in what I’m building, something I’ll share more about soon.

The Small Choices Add Up

But the lesson I keep coming back to is this: the small, intentional choices add up.

What you wear. How you spend your time. Who you show up for. They’re not separate from the bigger decisions. They’re how you practice becoming the person you want to be.

I watch my daughter, Lilly, getting dressed in the morning. She’s so sure of herself. She knows exactly what feels right. There’s no performance in it, just presence.

Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, a lot of us lose that. We start dressing for other people’s expectations instead of our own truth.

I’m working my way back to that clarity. To choosing what feels right over what looks right. To building something that lasts instead of chasing what’s trendy.

I’ve spent years searching for it. And this fall, I’ve been thinking about what makes a white shirt worth keeping, worth investing in, worth wearing until it becomes part of your story.

Why White Shirts Matter

There’s something about a white shirt that cuts through the noise. In a world of trends and constant newness, it’s the piece that doesn’t try too hard. It just works.

But here’s what I’ve learned: not all white shirts are created equal.

Some are too stiff (beautiful on the hanger, uncomfortable after an hour). Some are too thin (requiring a camisole underneath, defeating the simplicity). Some fit perfectly when you’re standing still but pull and gap the moment you move through your actual life.

The right white shirt does something different. It moves with you. It works as hard as you do.

What I Look For

After years of trial and error, here’s what makes a white shirt worth it:
Fabric that feels good. Not just looks good, feels good against your skin. Cotton that’s been pre-washed so it’s soft from day one, not scratchy for the first three washes.

A fit that forgives. Drop shoulders that don’t restrict movement. Enough room in the body that you’re not pulling at buttons. A length that works tucked or untucked because some days you want polish, other days you want ease.

Details that matter. Real button holes (not snaps that pop open). Quality buttons that don’t feel cheap. A collar that holds its shape. The small things that signal this piece was made to last.

Versatility in practice, not just theory. Can you wear it to a meeting and then go straight to dinner with friends? Does it work with your leather jacket and your blazer? Can you roll the sleeves and make it casual or leave them down and dress it up?

The Investment Piece Philosophy

I’m at a point in my life where I’d rather have fewer pieces that I truly love than a closet full of things that are just… fine.

The white shirt is that kind of piece. It’s not trendy (which means it won’t feel dated next season). It’s not cheap (but it also doesn’t have to be wildly expensive to be good). It’s the kind of thing you buy once, wear a hundred times, and eventually pass down.

My daughter Lilly is nine now. I’m starting to think about the pieces I’ll give her someday, not because they’re precious, but because they held up. Because they were part of my life, and then they become part of hers.

That’s what a good white shirt does. It becomes part of your story.

So that’s where I am this fall: in search of the perfect white shirt. The one that works as hard as I do. The one that moves with me through all the versions of my day.

When Lilly was little, I had visions of princess dresses, tutus, pink everything, and cute bows. Then around age 3, she took control of her own style narrative.

She gravitates toward bold colors, comfortable athletic wear (perfect for spontaneous cartwheels), and statement pieces that make her feel authentically herself. I’ll never forget the bright, furry vest she picked out in Solvang that I initially said no to—until my husband nudged me to let her express herself.

She’s taught me that true style isn’t about following trends or pleasing others. It’s about alignment with who you are. She understands when to wear her school uniform and look polished, but she also knows when it’s time to be boldly, unapologetically herself.

Through her, I’ve learned to embrace color and boldness in my own style and life.

2. Real Leadership Means Following Your Own Path

Lilly beats to the sound of her own drum, and no matter how much I might project my own unfulfilled dreams of being a dancer onto her, she stands her ground about her interests.

At 5, she gravitated toward gymnastics, and it became her thing. She watches YouTube tutorials at home, practices splits in the living room, and has that natural ambition that requires no external motivation. We never have to tell her to improve—she just does.

Her tight group of friends loves her because she can just be herself. And I never worry about peer pressure because I know she won’t do anything that doesn’t align with who she is.

True leadership isn’t about controlling others, it’s about having an inner compass strong enough to resist external pressures and follow your authentic path.

3. Life is About Never Stopping Learning

Lilly has always gravitated toward reading and learning. She recently had grandma buy her a cat breed book where she’s studying all the different cats in the world (because why just like cats when you can become a cat expert?) lol

After spending a month in Mexico this summer, she came home insisting we download Duolingo so she could continue learning Spanish. She loves that she can visualize, read, and interact with the language in different ways.

Her genuine enthusiasm for discovery has taught me that learning should be fun and self-directed. It’s never “I have to learn this”—it’s “I get to learn this.”

4. Discipline is Self-Generated Structure That Creates Freedom

In the weeks before school started, Lilly created her own schedule listing her morning, afternoon, and evening routines. This wasn’t something we pushed—it came naturally from her.

Her morning routine includes reading a chapter before school. Her afternoon includes homework and more reading. She used to even wake up early every morning to practice gymnastics on her air track, stretching and learning new skills before school.

She’s discovered what many adults struggle with: discipline isn’t restriction, it’s the pathway to getting more of what you want out of life. Although she doesn’t know the word “discipline,” she demonstrates it every single day through choices that honor what matters most to her.

5. Meaningful Friendships Are Worth Investing In

As someone who moved around a lot as a kid and struggled to form lasting friendships, watching Lilly cultivate deep relationships has been healing for me.

She’s found and forged friendships with about 4 strong girls that I believe will be lifelong friends. I’m making my best effort to nurture these relationships with her, and cultivating friendships with their moms has been an unexpected bonus.

Lilly is teaching me it’s never too late to let people in and build meaningful connections. She’s helping me break cycles of self-protection I didn’t even realize I carried.

6. Authentic Connection Transcends Age

Lilly’s friendship abilities extend far beyond peers. In Mexico, she bonded with Ericka, a 25-year-old family friend who shares her boldness and natural leadership qualities. Lilly invited Ericka to stay with us for a couple of weeks, and I could immediately see why they connected.

She also has deep, playful relationships with her grandmothers—spending hours being silly and building genuine connections.

Her ability to recognize kindred spirits regardless of age shows that when you’re grounded in authenticity, you can connect with people’s essence no matter conventional boundaries.

7. Academic Excellence Flows from Natural Curiosity

From talking clearly at a young age to loving flashcards as a toddler, Lilly has always been naturally academic. She loves learning different strategies for math, and her passion for animals connects beautifully with her academic interests.

What strikes me is that her academic success comes from the same authentic place as everything else about her—it’s not forced or pressured, but a natural expression of her curiosity. She wants to challenge herself in new ways because she’s discovered that learning itself is rewarding.

8. Courage and Adaptability Open Doors to Growth

This summer, while my parents were visiting, Lilly spontaneously asked if she could go back with them to Mexico for a month. She attended a local school, made friends, and even taught English to her classmates.

When we moved and had to switch gymnastics places, she had multiple new teachers. At her most recent class with 4-5 new girls, she admitted feeling scared and nervous, but she put her best foot forward anyway. She’s already learned new skills and said she was really happy she went.

Lilly has taught me that courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s moving forward despite it. She doesn’t just adapt to change; she actively seeks it when she knows it will help her grow.

9. Authenticity is the Greatest Gift We Can Give Our Children (and Ourselves)

When I became a mom at 25, I was the first among my friends and cousins to have a child. As a shy child who learned not to “rock the boat,” I initially wondered why Lilly couldn’t just go with the flow on everything.

In a therapy session years ago, my therapist asked: “Lilly can read the room. She opens up when she’s comfortable. Do you really want to take those qualities away from her?”

That question shifted everything. I realized I wasn’t here to create a mini-me—I was here to raise a kind, compassionate human being who happens to be her own person.

Lilly’s independence, maturity, and ability to read situations aren’t flaws to fix—they’re wisdom beyond her years. Through her authenticity, she’s taught me what genuine confidence looks like, versus the people-pleasing that felt safer in my own childhood.

At 35, through watching my 9-year-old daughter, I’m discovering parts of myself I never knew were possible.

The Greatest Lesson of All

Our children don’t need us to mold them into our image—they need us to witness, celebrate, and nurture who they already are. Lilly has been my teacher in authenticity, courage, discipline, curiosity, and so much more.

Happy 9th birthday to my greatest mentor. Thank you for showing me what it looks like to live boldly, love deeply, and be unapologetically yourself.

My husband, Justin introduced me to Lake Tahoe years ago, and everything shifted in an instant. We’ve been together for 12 years now—I remember our first summer anniversary so vividly. We hiked near Emerald Bay, the water clear and crystal blue, the rising mountains around us. We did a hike to Vikingsholm, a place that feels almost holy in its beauty. And in that moment, I either wanted to get married there or at least try!

Justin and I have talked about a future that includes a home or an investment property in the Lake Tahoe area. Not just as a token of weekend getaways, but as a living, breathing part of our life—a place where friends and family can gather, where we can host cozy evenings by a fireplace after a day on the water, and where our love for the place can translate into something lasting we pass on to the next generation.

For me, Tahoe is more than scenery. It’s where I feel both a sense of home and a sense of horizons—where the heart is gentle with what’s now and curious about what’s next. And yes, it occasionally whispers, “You could totally pull this off,” which is the best kind of pep talk.

A place like Tahoe invites us to grow, imagine, and commit to something bigger than ourselves.
