Back in 2022 I started a zine mail club with the hopes of at least 10 people joining. I was bad at promoting it, and lowkey scared to share it, but I did the best I could to spread the word on my Instagram of 3,000 followers.

When launch day finally arrived, I was surprised and overjoyed to see 50 people signed up for my monthly snail mail. The zines were sloppy, bound together like I hired a neanderthal to do it, and revealed so much about my life that you’d mistake it for a diary.

Each month the number of supporters increased, and with that, my zines got better. Still messy in design, but more structured in content. I started incorporating stickers to go along with each zine and recording a podcast to expand on my creative process. I even opened up a p.o. box so club members could send me some zines back.

What started off as a tiny, secret mail club turned into a full-blown operation of over 1,000 supporters by 2026, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the love. My zine mail club has allowed me to explore myself, my place in the world, my sexuality, my career...pretty much every aspect of what it means to be Bre.

In these past 4 years I have spewed my heart onto paper, folded it up, and sent it off to hundreds of strangers without skipping even one month. Some zines were bad (oh my god, some I wish to erase from y’all’s memory), but a lot of them were really, REALLY good. But none of them would exist without the support of the zine community.

When I started this journey, I didn’t think I could do it. I thought no one would want to hear what I had to say. But then hundreds of strangers turned into friends who encouraged me to keep creating despite those fears… “Thank you” just doesn’t seem like enough to really show my gratitude 💐

It’s bittersweet to say goodbye to my mail club, but I’m excited for what’s next! Whether you join me over on YouTube, Instagram, or right here on Substack, thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you ♡

Are You in Long Beach? 🏖️

In just a few weeks I’ll be tabling outside my favorite local bookstore, Page Against the Machine. Page Against The Machine is a fiercely independent, proudly progressive activist bookstore based in Long Beach, California. They offer a hyper-curated selection of books and related material on activism and organizing, social and political movements, and socially-conscious living and sustainability.

Eldest Daughter Core

Instead of asking ChatGPT, ask me. I’ll chug a glass of water and give you some tough love kinda answer that makes you think I don’t care (but I do!), plus a crazy story that makes you wonder how I’m still alive (I don’t know, either!)

As the eldest daughter, I was given an incredibly high level of responsibility at such a young age. By the time I realized I was parentified, my childhood had already whizzed right by me. Don’t get me wrong, I love my family, but serving as a third parent for my two younger siblings, listening to my mom use me as a therapist, and having to worry about my dad’s finances at like 8 years old really changed my brain chemistry.

And what kind of person does the eldest daughter turn into when she reaches adulthood?

Well, results vary but I think it’s safe to say most of them turn into a hybrid of Type-A perfectionist/hyper-independent/high-functioning anxiety-ridden human ticking time bomb.

I also like to call my personality eldestdaughtermaxxing because although I’m like 30-something and no longer a child carrying the entire family on my back, it’s hard to relax. There’s a gnawing voice in the back of my head that’s constantly saying, “There’s something to do, someone needs you, you can’t stop moving.”

I’m always tired, but I’m afraid that if I stop showing up for everyone that something terribly wrong is going to happen. I know that’s irrational but it’s practically ingrained into the fibers of my being…

Dismantling those deep-seated patterns of over-responsibility, perfectionism, and self-sacrifice has been a struggle to overcome. The past few years, I’ve been learning to set stricter boundaries with people (saying NO even though I was raised that saying no was disrespectful), practicing self-compassion (treating myself to nice things instead of feeling I have to earn it from someone else), and reconnecting with my own needs (forcing myself to take a day off from being needed even though it feels really weird!!)

Maybe it’s the brainwashing talking, but I honestly don’t mind being needed by others when I know how to balance it. Just because someone needs me doesn’t mean I have to pull through for them at the cost of myself. Understanding my capacity and being able to communicate it has done wonders for my mental health…so yeah don’t ask ChatGPT, ask me.

I may take a minute to get back to you. I might sound annoyed when I respond. I probably won’t even give a straight answer because I tend to ramble and reiterate myself, but as the eldest daughter I’m happy to be there for you. Only after I’m there for myself ♡

In case you missed it: I have a detailed video on how to create a 16 page mini zine using a single sheet of paper posted on my YouTube channel. The video includes templates in the description so you can make your zine by hand or with digital tools like Procreate or Photoshop.

I used my templates to create my newest zine, NICOLAS CAGE MADE ME GAY, which explores how I confused wanting to be like the men around me with wanting to date them. Rekindling Girlhood ✨

‘Rekindling Girlhood’ is a zine I made in collaboration with Chicago-based story artist, Alyssa a.k.a. Peggy. Each page shares personal details of how each of us experienced “girlhood” while not appearing to be “girly” at all.

Peggy and I share memories of feeling out of place for being tomboys in our youth; Peggy remembers being unfairly masculinized, having crushes on fictional characters, and her insecurity around other girls. Similarly, I recall my earliest memories of being criticized for wearing my brother’s clothes, navigating homophobia in the home, and finding queer friends before even understanding what that meant.

This limited edition zine SOLD OUT!

Peggy only had a small batch of copies in their shop and I reserved my copies for my Zine Club on Patreon. However, I ended up with some leftovers after I was done shipping the zines out to my club, so I’ve decided to include them in my MYSTERY GRAB BAGS!

Mystery grab bags include a tote bag, a mix of stickers, an air freshener, and other fun goodies hand crafted by me. These were a HOT item last year during my moving sale and I got many requests to bring them back.

While my moving sale is over and prices in my store have changed, I’ll be fully restocked with SMALL and LARGE mystery bags, with the SMALL ones being cheaper for those on a budget!

This vlog recaps my time driving up to Monterey Bay to teach a zine workshop. Since then I’ve also traveled to Portland, Oregon for Reed Zine Fest where I was their invited keynote speaker (I didn’t get to vlog that one but it happened, I swear!)

And I just want to end this by saying that while I love teaching workshops and traveling for work, nothing beats making arts & crafts in my room. I’m happy to be back home prepping for my newest shop update and I really hope I get to send you some mail ♡

A zine maker watches the Netflix movie ‘Moxie’ for the first time…and was disappointed 😓🥀

The 2021 film, directed by Amy Poehler, follows a shy and “obedient” 16-year-old girl named Vivian who launches an anonymous underground zine to protest sexist, misogynistic, and toxic behaviors at her high school. Vivian’s sudden interest in zine making is largely inspired by her mother’s punk-rock, feminist past.

While she doesn’t speak up for her peers while abuse is actively happening, Vivian channels the riot grrrl era her mom participated in to spark a revolution with her aforementioned feminist zine she titles ‘Moxie’.

The movie features notable moments, including Bikini Kill covers performed by The Linda Lindas, important discussions about intersectionality, and the consequences of what unchecked bullying leads to, but still managed to leave a poor taste in my mouth by the end.

I wish I could have streamed the ENTIRE movie on my YouTube channel but copyright restrictions made that impossible, so I trimmed my reaction to this 30-minute video instead. However, the full (unedited) stream is available for my zine club members over on Patreon!

ZINES ARE NOT A CRIME 🚫

On July 6, 2025, Des Revol was arrested and charged with evidence tampering and obstruction of justice due to a box of political zines found in his possession during a traffic stop. Pictured above is the alleged box of zines which can be commonly found in numerous independent bookstores, online art shops, and coffee shops around the country.

It’s alleged that these zines were transported from one house to another and that this is evidence of illegal activity. The zines being used to incriminate Des are listed below:

This new video explores our relationship with social media as artists and how I personally navigate the digital landscape when it comes to sharing my zines. In a society that loves to celebrate art while also neglecting its artists, I dive deep into why I still post my zines online despite an ever-changing algorithm that rewards output over depth.

I also take you “behind the zines” into one of my latest works and how my frustration with social media inspired me to create it. From taking an ordinary experience like shopping at Ikea, I was able to make a zine that excited me without worrying if the algorithm would pick it up and show it to my audience.

Little did I know that stepping away from fanzines isn’t what made me original, understanding why I made them did.

In this new YouTube video I talk about my complicated relationship with pop culture, creativity, and finding my voice within a fandom. I discuss why I stopped making the Nicolas Cage fanzines I became so popular for, why I felt like relying too much on pop culture for my art started to feel like a crutch, and what it took to develop my own style as an artist.

Surprisingly, what helped with my voice was stitching it with the echoes of the voices that came before me. The TV shows I loved, the writers I looked up to, and the media that shaped me all helped cultivate my own lane.

Now, 3 years later, I find myself returning to my love of the fanzine but with more intention, boundaries, and confidence in who I am…

Some people may argue that “fanzine” is just a euphemism for copyright infringement (and in some cases they’re right), but I’d like to take the stance that culture doesn’t only move forward through granted permission.

There is definitely a fine line between inspiration, originality, and being derivative and I explore all the blurry boundaries in this new video ✄

Nicolas Cage and the Snacks by John Scarratt of Scarratt Shop on Esty was actually the first zine I read this year! It’s funny, obscure, and niche in all the best ways. Whether you’re a fan of the Cage man or just a foodie…this culinary adventure is fun for all readers 🍴

The second zine I had the pleasure of reading this year is Risograph Zine: Font Sightings in the Real World by Jempol Zine. This is a 50+ page DIY printed riso zine compiling dozens of examples of the zine creator finding their font in use in the real world. Thoughtful, funny, and so high quality I wanted to give them MORE MONEY FOR IT, this unique zine reminds me of why I love this medium so much. 5/5 STARS.

Friendships as Resistance: Creating Communities of Care, a mini zine by Karina Killjoy, is another must read for 2026. Do not be fooled by its super cute charm ⎯ while ADORABLE this 8 page zine is serious about prioritizing Queer and Trans friendships, community care, and much more. What I love most about this zine is its small design, which makes sharing it with friends so easy.

And last but not least, I Got That B-Movie Autism by @FrankenArt13 (also known as ZomBoyV on Etsy), is a fun 8 page mini zine showcasing the creator’s top 3 favorite cult classic movies.

I was gifted this compact zine by a friend and was delighted to see the 1985 American Comedy Horror movie ReAnimator get a shout out as it’s one of my favorite cult classics, too!

I ended up spending hours getting lost in the aisles, eating Swedish meatballs in their cafeteria, and adding way more to my cart than I planned. The most exciting project I’ve been working on while I’ve been away are these Nicolas Cage fanzines…

My new zine blind box series is called GOOBERS and shares my love of Cage Cult Classics along with my goober doodle renditions of each movie’s main character. These zines celebrate Ghost Rider, Moonstruck, Raising Arizona, and Vampire’s Kiss!

Please keep in mind that at this time I can only ship within the states and to Canada. Due to various postal strikes and issues with customs, I have temporarily put a hold on most international orders.

I want to take this time to thank everyone that has supported Bre’s Tiny Print Shop this year. Whether you bought one sticker, mystery goodie bags, or multiple zines, every single order meant so much to me and has made such a huge impact!

I’ve share this story before, but I created Bre’s Tiny Print Shop in the summer of 2019 after deciding to give my dream of being an artist a try. Since I was working two jobs and going to college at the time, I had only an hour a day to build my brand and get my art seen by more people…

After graduating with my English degree, I knew the only way to give Bre’s Tiny Print Shop the love and care it deserved I had to quit my full-time job working for someone else.

It wasn’t an easy decision. I cried a lot. I didn’t know how I was going to pay rent. I no longer had health insurance covered by my employer. My dad told me my art was mediocre so “good luck getting anyone to buy that crap!”

But I tried it anyway.

The leap of faith didn’t pay off right away, but eventually Bre’s Tiny Print Shop was growing, and the energy I was putting towards my dream was getting recognized online. Not only were people reading my zines, they were asking me for help on how to create theirs.

Now I was posting about my work but also sharing tutorials, resources, and tips & tricks about zines I’ve learned over the years. People were inviting me onto their podcasts, I was getting interviewed about my process, and other retailers were asking to sell my zines on their shelves!

What started out as a desire to pick my business up off the ground evolved into something even more special…I was building a community. Six years later I now have a wonderful Zine Club on Patreon, a YouTube channel to share my life’s work, and an Instagram where I can promote all my handmade products listed in my online store.

I know I say THANK YOU a lot and it’s probably kinda annoying and spammy, but I don’t care. My life totally changed the minute I started leaning into what I felt called to do…share my words, art, and zines with you. So thank you so much for supporting what I do in my little corner of the internet 💐❤️

I just wanted to give extra thanks for supporting my content and shop while I’m in the middle of a huge life transition! I’ve moved many times in my life but this current one is pretty far so the stress level is a bit higher than usual.

Hawai’i Vlog 🌺

I recently travelled to Hawai’i to visit my grandma and collected some things to utilize in a zine. My next YouTube video will be about how I find inspiration from my trip to make a zine using those collected items!

Since I’m part Hawaiian I’m used to visiting the Big Island but this trip hit different as an adult. My grandma, who lives in Hilo, taught me so much about our ancestors, showed us photos of our family, and shared stories of her protesting in the 90s.

I can’t wait to find ways to incorporate everything I experienced from my trip into my work. I’m still in the process of editing the video and creating the zine, but once its done it will be posted to my channel 📎

Inspired from shopping at the new POP MART in town, I created my own zine blind boxes all by hand!

It was my first time opening a blind box, which are just mystery boxes where you don’t know which figure you’ll get. I loved the experience so much but really like the idea of creating more than I consume...

I mean, one blind box was fine but then I went back for a second one on the same day so I made a deal with myself that I’d have to make a zine after the purchase. It was the only way I could justify spending $50 on toys but now I want a whole collection so I’ll definitely be back 🙈

I did, in fact, go back and got this little guy from the Hirono “Shelter” series

After 5 days, lots of paper cuts, and dozens of misprints, I finally completed my project of zine blind boxes that are so cute I wanna cry. They will be released in my shop in October, but first I have to make sure they’re perfect; I need to adjust the boxes so they’re sturdier (or at least find a way to package them that protects them from getting crushed in the mail) ☻

The green TRASH zine is my favorite (1/4 zines in the boxes) 🙈

I was inspired to make this after accidentally going on a date with a guy who didn’t know I was gay. I thought we were just hangin out until he made a joke about our “first date” and I was like OMG wait what? This is a date? Why didn’t you use that word when inviting me to hang out??
