But apparently we are all misguided. The President thinks we should love AI data centers, and said in his unparalleled eloquence, communities that reject data centers are doomed to remain “backwards and poor.” So while I was reconciling my fate of eternal backwardness and poorness, I sent this little message to Donald.

Below is Part 3 of my series of posts that show the myriad of ways that Trump’s corruption is not just making him obscenely and illegally wealthy, but also amounts to stealing money from the average American, including his non-billionaire supporters.

7. Tax Filing

The average American spends $160 a year on commercial tax preparation. That cost could have been eliminated with Direct File, a program that would have allowed millions of taxpayers to file directly with the IRS for free. Then Trump stepped in. Intuit, the parent company of TurboTax, contributed $1 million to Trump’s inauguration committee, and then, just like magic, Trump’s Treasury Department ditched Direct File.

Every dollar spent on IRS personnel and auditing brings in $12 to the federal treasury, reducing the deficit and lowering interest rates. The Trump Administrations, both 1 and 2, have butchered the IRS, fired and laid off thousands of agents, specifically to allow the ultrarich to engage in tax evasion. Dodging taxes got less risky for the ultrarich and corporations after Trump returned to the White House.

Whistleblowing IRS agents assigned to billionaire audits have said their cases ground to a halt when their teams were decimated and budgets frozen after the DODE cuts. Early in Trump’s second term, government officials estimated that those cuts in IRS personnel would cost the government $500 billion. As I pointed out earlier, that increases the federal deficit, now $40 trillion, which drives up interest rates and overall inflation, making everything you buy more expensive.

8. White collar crime—Making Fraud Great Again

Trump rolled out the welcome mat at the White House for white collar criminals. You pay for white collar crime in one way or another with higher costs. Trump has systematically dismantled the infrastructure, institutional oversight and muscle designed to catch insider trading and fraud.

For example, the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section, created after Watergate to prosecute corrupt officials, eliminated 36 of 38 employees last year, and those two were stripped of authority to file new cases. The Department of Justice shut down more than 900 federal fraud investigations in Trump’s first six months and closed over 100 healthcare fraud cases claiming they didn’t have the resources. Trump’s DOJ also canceled 159 federal enforcement actions that had been levied against 166 companies,... and wait for it... more than 30 of which donated to Trump’s inauguration or White House ballroom.

The SEC’s top enforcement official resigned after agency leaders blocked her from aggressively pursuing cases touching Trump’s circle.

White collar criminals have openly bought pardons and get out of jail cards from Trump. His pardons for fraud in public programs, government contracts, taxes, Medicare and Medicaid have cost American tax payers (that includes you, MAGA kool-aid drinkers) $2 billion in repayment and lost taxpayer recovery (which increases the debt and interest rates). Many of Trump’s pardons have been issued to people connected to his own family and those who have hired million-dollar lobbyists. Here are a few examples.

Paul Walczak, a nursing home executive convicted of tax evasion, received a full pardon for his conviction three weeks after his mother donated $1 million to Trump at a Mar-a-Lago fundraiser. He now no longer has to pay more than $4 million in restitution. Lawrence Duran was sentenced to 50 years for one of the largest Medicare fraud schemes in history. Our Conman in Chief then wiped out that prision sentence and canceled the remaining portion of the $87 million repayment he stills owed the government.

In fact, an entire pardon-shopping industry has sprouted up around the president, with lobbyists reportedly charging as much as $1 million to seek clemency from the White House. Those pardons have erased more than $1 billion in fines and restitution owed by duly convicted defendants. That money was intended to compensate victims and repay taxpayers. Instead, it disappeared with the stroke of Trump’s pen.

Trump’s accepting what is definitely bribery for pardons brings me to the next category of corruption…

9. The corruption of crypto

The crypto industry claims it’s a tool for financial inclusion and economic prosperity, free of government control. The reality is that crypto is a haven for fraud, crime, money laundering, scams, and economic hardship for regular people. Crypto mining is also an environmental disaster because of the extreme energy requirements. Three-quarters of those who invested in Bitcoin between 2015 and 2022 lost money. The losses amount to tens of billions of dollars, and MAGA rubes undoubtedly account for much of those. Crypto is perhaps the stupidest, most useless boondoggle ever devised, and it was the brain child of the same circle of Big Tech miscreants that are shoving AI down our throats.

After realizing that he could essentially accept countless bribes with crypto, in the course of about ten seconds, Trump flipped from an ardent critic of crypto to its biggest supporter and deregulator. And the overwhelming majority of the wealth Trump and his ne’re do well sons, Don Jr. Eric, and Barron, have accumulated in his second term (at least $3-4 billion) has come from crypto scams.

Trump got most of his crypto money in 2025 from transaction and licensing fees and other revenue associated with the coins he sold to two types of people, those who were buying the coins to get access to Trump, and MAGA rubes who didn’t know better.

True to form, last May, Trump hosted a black-tie dinner (with food the quality of a hospital cafeteria) as a special reward for the top 220 holders of the Trump meme coin. The 25 biggest investors gained access to a small VIP reception with the president.

Trump has pardoned numerous crypto criminals. The one that got the most attention was the founder of Binance, Changpeng Zhao, after he had boosted Trump’s cryptoventures. But it also included other crypto criminals, BitMEX co-founders Arthur Hayes, Benjamin Delo, Samuel Reed, and Greg Dwyer.

And now in 2026, crypto, Big Tech AI, and online gaming and gambling companies (Ripple, Coinbase, and Gemini are the largest) and their owners are pouring more money into supporting Republicans than any other industry, about $300 million so far. Gambling companies’ profits are particularly exploitive of the economic underclass, contributing to mental illness, suicide, and entrenched poverty.

10. Destroying the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)

Trump turned the CFPB into the Trump’s Buddies Protection Bureau. Under Trump, the CFPB stopped 22 enforcement actions, costing consumers millions. Doing so also was a quid pro quo for major donors including Elon Musk, whose companies were being investigated for violating consumer protection laws. Capital One had a lawsuit filed by the CFPB dismissed by Trump after they…wait for it… donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration committee.

Toyota Motor Credit was caught by the CFPB running an illegal scheme overcharging borrowers for add-ons to their car loans, made them difficult to cancel, and falsely reported information that hurt consumers’ credit to credit bureaus. The company was ordered to pay $60 million to compensate affected consumers. Then Toyota…wait for it… donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration fund, and all those fines were magically wiped off the books.

Under Trump, the CFPB abandoned a rule removing medical debt from credit reports that would have helped 15 million Americans raise their credit scores an average of 20 points. Those 20 points would save consumers at least $20,000 in interest over the life of a 30-year home loan. Since Trump’s inauguration, more than 2.7 million credit reporting complaints submitted to the CFPB have gone unanswered, leaving millions at risk of being denied loans or subjected to higher rates.

Corruption is a classic pillar of fascist regimes, and the astounding open, shameless, and relentless corruption we are witnessing daily in Trump 2.0, shows that he simply views this country as nothing more than a target of a smash and grab operation for his own personal accumulation of wealth. But as I have tried to explain, the victims are all the rest of us, including, if not especially, those who are sitting blindfolded in the MAGAverse.

The EPA is planning to stop public comment on the air quality permit for data centers.

Utah Reps need to step up and defend Utahns and the public process! Please call Utah’s congressional delegation about this and demand they defend Utahns rights. Data cneters are a hot button issue right now that are losing poor leaders elections. With enough pressure, they just might listen to us this time.

Remember the good old days when the Creature From the Orange Lagoon, promised to “drain the swamp”? That creature now sits on a throne in that lagoon, literally and figuratively, up to his eye balls in corruption and moral sewage.

Donny is engaged in literally hundreds of corrupt schemes, many are illegal, with a new one breaking out like weeping blisters on America’s rear end almost every day. And that money is flowing out of the pockets of every day Americans, and directly into the pockets of Trump, his family, and his billionaire entourage.

Every taxpayer dollar spent by Trump is filtered through the sieve of cronyism, every contract awarded based on how much industrial strength flattery is slathered on Dear Leader, and every stock market trade in your retirement account is distorted to pay for another layer of gold painted on Trump’s toilet. Trump said, "It's not possible for the US to pay for Medicaid, Medicare and day care," when we have wars to wage. And those wars have been immensely profitable for him.

5. Insider trading

Insider trading is not a victimless crime. It distorts stock prices and adds to the already unprecedented wealth gap. It steals money from everyone who doesn’t have that insider information, that’s why it’s illegal. Evidence of insider trading, both in traditional markets and prediction/probability platforms has exploded around President Trump's most consequential decisions — each time, just minutes or hours before he utters his next insane policy or pronouncement.

Trump’s financial disclosures show he is making an average of 80 stock trades a day, much of it in oil and gas. It makes you wonder how he holds still long enough for Natalie Harp to put on his diaper and brush his dentures. More often than not those trades involve companies with business before the federal government. He made more than 300 previously undisclosed stock purchases just one day before unexpectedly announcing that he would pause many of his import tariffs.

Perhaps the crown jewel of Trump’s corruption is the public announcement of his offering to accept bribes in exchange for delivering insider information. On Aug. 4 he announced that for anyone willing to pay him a $100,000 monthly fee, he will offer them access to his Truth Social posts miliseconds before he publicly posts them. This is the very definition of insider trading for which hundreds of people have gone to jail.

Some Wall Street firms have already signed up. If you or your investment manager are not willing to pay that bribe, then your investments will suffer because of it and money will come out of your pocket.

6. More tariff corruption

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick offered to cut tariffs on steel if European officials would roll back online privacy and anti-monopoly rules as a favor to his Big Tech billionaire buddies. That amounts to offering to trade away U.S. steel manufactures to help Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Sam Altman, Peter Thiel, and Elon Musk control even more of your lives. According to a Yale study, the average American household is losing $1,100 a year because of Trump’s tariffs. That will certainly rise with the insane trade war Trump just started with Canada. And the rebates on those tariffs ordered by the courts are going to corporations not you.

7. War In Iran

Trump’s stupidest war in the history of wars, has already cost the average household $670 in higher gas prices alone. Food prices are rising for several reasons related to this war. For example, fertilizer prices and diesel have skyrocketed.

Trump sons Eric and Don, Jr. are treating the Iran War as their own private piggy bank. They magically figured out how to invest at just the right time in at least 12 companies that stood to reap huge contracts with the federal government in weapons, drones, AI, technology, robotics, and critical minerals. Those companies are on an exclusive government contractor list that stand to be awarded $200 billion in government contracts.

8. More ICE corruption

The Trump regime spent $464 million of taxpayer money in a no-bid contract for a special fleet of jets intended to deport immigrants. The planes have almost never been used. Your taxes paid for that which increased the debt, which increases interest rates that you have to pay.

9. Killing Clean Energy Projects

Electricity generated by wind and solar is already cheaper than what comes from existing coal plants. So what is Trump doing with your hard earned money? Paying companies billions of tax payers’ money to not build wind and solar, killing jobs, polluting our air and water, accelerating the climate crisis, and driving up electricity costs

So far he has spent almost $3 billion directly, paying five different companies to abandon clean energy projects, and poured $1.125 billion into boosting dirty energy. You pay for Trump’s illicit love affair with fossil fuels in four ways. First, money spent to buy out a utilities’ clean energy contracts. Second, your energy bills increase when coal plants are put back on line. Third, their pollution harms your health and increases your health care costs. Fourth, Trump dropped the federal royalty rates on coal from 12.5% to 7%, taking money from the US Treasury, increasing the debt, and jacking up your interest rates even more.

Why is he doing that when data centers are putting an ever increasing strain on the grid? Because Big Oil spent nearly $500 million on him and Republicans in the 2024 election.

After Parts 1 and 2, you would think there are no more examples of Trump’s corruption. There is plenty more to come in Part 3, and how it is stealing money right out of your pocket.

I only made up one of those. Can you guess which one?

Trump’s breathtaking corruption and the relentless rise in the wealth of the uber rich are not happening in a vacuum, they are coming at the expense of everyone else. Money is flowing out of your pocket and directly into the pockets of Trump, his family, and his billionaire sucker fish. Here’s how.

1. Trump’s tax cuts

Last year’s Trump tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy are a major contributor to the national debt which just reached $40 trillion. That is $120,000 per person, and nearly $290,000 per tax payer. That means the government is spending a hell of a lot more than it is taking in. Every administration has contributed to that. But the number isn’t the only thing that matters. What matters more is what is that money spent on and where is the revenue coming from? Is the revenue coming from the ultra-rich like Elon Musk, the nation’s greatest hypocrite and possible trillionaire, or from the middle class?

Tesla paid zero corporate tax in 2025 and in many previous years. Many years Musk also paid zero personal income tax. Just one year he paid $11 billion after exercising stock options (obviously a tiny fraction of his wealth). Amazon paid just 1.4% of its U.S. income in income taxes rather than the official 21%, the ostensible tax rate for corporations. Similar figures apply to most of the biggest corporations, a big reason why the national debt is $40 trillion.

Under Trump, the ultra-rich are making out like bandits and the record setting national debt is literally draining money from your wallet. It’s like the government is spending with a credit card but never paying it off, and you’re making the monthly payments. And here’s how that is directly coming out of your pocket. That debt is why interest rates are as high as they are. That increases the cost of a house you may want to buy, and reduces the price you’ll get for a house you want to sell. Ditto with car loans, credit cards, or any other loan.

But higher interest rates eventually filter down to every purchase you make. The recent fall in the price of bonds, and rise in the bond interest rates (yield) is an indication that investors expect prices to keep rising because of that debt, interest rates will stay high, and you will continue to pay more for everything.

Robert Reich explains it this way. The government used to be supported by higher taxes on the wealthy. Now it is supported by the wealthy buying government bonds. The government must pay interest on that enormous debt, right now $3 billion per day, about a trillion per year. Interest payments are now the government’s second-biggest expense, behind only Social Security.

A lot of the interest being paid on those treasury bonds is being paid to the already wealthy. With a debt this large and getting worse, and bond yields rising, it is just another revenue stream where you are paying more money just to survive, and a lot of that money is just ending up making the ultrarich even more so.

It’s “trickle up” wealth accumulation.

2. Healthcare

Ripping away subsidies for Obama Care and throwing people off Medicaid now means everyone, including those that still have insurance, are paying more for their healthcare. When 15-20 million people who no longer have insurance still need to go to emergency rooms, hospitals raise prices on everyone else.

TrumpRX and Don Jr.’s BlinkRx are not a relief for high drug prices, they are just another way Trump is corruptly making money for his family and Big Pharma, many of whom donated to Trump’s inauguration extravaganza. When patients use TrumpRx instead of insurance, they have to cover the drug cost themselves.

The Trump Administration has let private equity take over more and more healthcare clinics and hospitals, approved more and more mergers with virtually no resistance, while companies like Blackstone, led by longstanding Trump donor Steve Schwarzman, turn huge profits. Here’s what always happens. When private equity takes over a medical clinic, hospital or clinical practice, everyone else loses. They raise prices, lower the quality of care, lay off staff to reduce costs, and tell doctors to order more tests to run so they can jack up profits.

Oh and the Trump Administration will now be using AI to expand pre-authorization hurdles and red tape to delay and deny surgery and procedures for Medicare patients.

3. Trump’s Tariffs. Another opportunity for bribes

Naïve people have never been able to figure out why Trump loves tariffs so much. It’s simple and pure corruption. He isn’t really in love with tariffs, he is in love with using tariffs to extract what is nothing less than bribes from countries and companies who are trying to avoid those tariffs. American consumers, including MAGA rubes, pay the tariffs, and Trump gets paid the bribes. Here are just two of numerous examples.

On Liberation Day 2025, Trump imposed a 46% tariff on Vietnam, one of the highest rates on any country, which the administration claimed reflected the large trade deficit with Vietnam. But just three months later in July, Trump lowered Vietnam tariffs to 20%. What changed? The Vietnamese government agreed to fast-track permits for the construction of a highly lucrative $1.5 billion Trump golf resort in Vietnam.

ArcelorMittal, a Luxembourg-based steel giant and the world’s second-largest steelmaker, donated $37 million worth of foreign steel to Trump for the White House ballroom. Two days later, Trump cut tarriffs for steel companies that supply U.S. automakers – including ArcelorMittal.

4. ICE is not just a moral disaster, it’s a financial rip off

Most people understand now that Donald Trump’s and Stephen Miller’s racist fever dreams of deporting as many brown skinned immigrants as possible has nothing to do with reducing crime. But it’s not just unconstitutional and morally repugnant, it is also costing you money. Republican lap dogs in Congress gave ICE $70 billion of your money to waste. That’s about $500 per tax payer.

ICE is paying often double the appraised value for their warehouse detention centers, wasting hundreds of millions of dollars. They are spending about $17,000 of your money for every person they deport, and nearly $200 a night for every immigrant in detention, as much as a very nice hotel room. But they are not in nice hotels with room service, fluffy towels and mints left on their pillows, they are literally in cages and tents, packed like sardines, and given maggot ridden food. The money goes to private prison companies who gave over a million to Trump’s re-election campaign. Trump has made at least 29 private prison stock trades in his second term.

But the ICE/Trump/Miller racism festival is also eroding the solvency of your Social Security. Immigrants working in the US but who are not citizens, are still paying into Social Security and Medicare, but most are not eligible to ever withdraw those benefits in the future. ICE goon squads are not just a humanitarian disaster, they are a financial disaster for you, MAGA lovers.

It turned out John Curtis decided not to save his soul or our democracy after all, but he had plenty of company in the rest of the Republicans in the Senate. We were once saved by the Greatest Generation, now we are being betrayed by the worst.

Dear Senator Curtis:

Many of us know you used to be a Democrat. Therefore we know you were once capable of a modicum of critical thinking, of distinguishing between truth and lies, between reality and fiction, and good and evil.

When you inherited the seat held by Mitt Romney, many of us hoped you would continue Romney’s role of standing up for the last remnant of a Republican Party that existed before Trump turned it into a sycophantic cult.

You know that Trump’s cabinet is a gang of flying monkeys, and perhaps the most corrupt of them all is Todd Blanche. In announcing you will vote to confirm Blanche as Attorney General, it became clear that whatever moral compass and integrity you may have once had, you have buried deep underground on behalf of your political ambitions.

A kindergartener is smart enough to see that Donald Trump’s authoritarianism is the biggest threat this country has ever faced. You have had a front row seat to his attacks on all our democratic institutions, on our civil rights, on the Bill of Rights, on the free press, on our voting systems, on Congress, his thinly veiled calls for violence against judges who rule against him, and brazen corruption that is completely without parallel or precedent.

You are also smart enough to know that Todd Blanch is not just enabling Trump, but has repeatedly demonstrated his loyalty is exclusively to Trump. Blanch wipes Trump’s rear end with the Constitution, with its moral and legal responsibilities, and with his oath to serve the country. We have never had a person more unqualified to be given the immense power of the Department of Justice.

It was Blanch that transferred evil child sex trafficker, Ghislaine Maxwell to a country club prison where she enjoys snacks, custom cooked meals, a puppy, and a private gym. It is Blanch that refuses to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act and published all the personal information on Epstein’s victims, and refuses to charge or even investigate all the male customers of Epstein’s sex trafficking, clearly protecting Trump from his near certain participation in Epstein’s crimes. It is Blanche who refuses to charge ICE agents or even investigate any of the ICE killings--Alex Pretti, Renee Good, and so many others.

Blanche is still working to ensure no one can ever go after Trump or his family for financial crimes. No IRS audits ever, no criminal accountability for tax cheating ever, and a tax payer paid bonus for every Proud Boy, Oath Keeper, and January 6th insurrectionist who helped Trump try to overthrow the government.

Democracy Defenders Fund, Lawyers Defending American Democracy, and a group of 101 former federal and state judges formally filed a comprehensive complaint in a letter to the New York State Bar, which includes a request to open an investigation into Blanche.

Their letter states Blanche has not only violated his oath to “bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution, he has abused the DOJ’s investigative and prosecutorial powers for political retribution,” and orchestrated a slush fund to compensate Jan. 6 insurrectionists and other loyalists.

Blanche has proven he will do anything Trump tells him to. When Trump tries to overturn the midterm elections is where Todd Blanch will be able to do his greatest damage. When Trump tells him he wants ballots seized Blanche will do it. When Trump says he wants the vote counting stopped, Blanche will see to it. When Trump says he wants ICE goons sent to polling places, Blanche will turn the other cheek. When Trump says he wants bogus charges against election officials in blue states Blanche will do that. When Trump says to Speaker Mike Johnson that the House should not seat newly elected Democrats because of phony election fraud charges, Blanch will find a contortion of the law to enable it.

John, you know how wrong this is. You may have heard of a popular book called the Bible. In one of its chapters Jesus says, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Blanche obviously has lost his, but I want to believe you still have one. Vote against Blanche and maybe you can find it.

We learned a few days ago that Gov. Cox is negotiating a deal with the Trump Administration to become a national epicenter of this recent infatuation with nuclear power. Cox is courting the entirety of the nuclear fuel supply chain in all its radioactive and toxic glory, including “from fuel fabrication to enrichment, reprocessing and disposition.” “Disposition” means including storing high level nuclear waste, something previous administrations in Utah not only refused, but would have fought vigorously against. And what does Utah get in return? Some undetermined federal money to supposedly donate to saving Great Salt Lake.

So what's changed? Mercenary state leaders who have succumbed to pressure from Big Tech billionaires, and who are counting on a gullible and compliant public to allow them to impose their will on them to continue the AI data center building frenzy, powered by nuclear power. What happened to the Republican Party, once the party of the sanctity of marriage, traditional family values, the moral majority, and Christian virtue? The answer of course is, Donald Trump happened. But Trump exposed all that to be a Potempkin Village. And that what they really cared about was just power, or more accurately, proximity to power. Sure Donald dragged them into the gutter, but they didn’t exactly go kicking and screaming and they long ago stopped the pretense.

Let’s review recent events.

Donald Trump---Never forget that Republicans have nominated three times for President, a man who bragged (and the entire nation heard it) that he could grab women by their genitals whenever he wanted. He’s been credibly accused of sexual assault by over two dozen women, publicly bragged that what he had in common with Ivanka was sex, was adjudicated in a court of law to have raped E. Jean Carroll.

And of course, Donald swam in the moral cesspool with the 21st century’s most notorious child sex trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein. Road on his plane at least seven times, was his best friend for more than a decade. Trump is mentioned in the Epstein files more than Jesus is mentioned in the New Testament. And of course all the Republicans in Congress are desperately trying to hide all the files that haven’t been released because of what they likely expose about Trump, just like Jesus would have wanted.

Andrew and Tristan Tate—These brothers are the scum of the earth if not the entire universe. They have built a multi-million dollar business of sex trafficking, running online courses teaching the “manosphere” how to produce pornography, subjugate women, coerce them into prostitution, and rule over them as their pimps in sexual slavery. They were arrested in Romania in 2022 and charged with human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women, and were forbidden to leave the country.

Even though all these accusations were public at the time, the Tate Bros barbaric, male dominance ethos appealed to many conservatives and they received public support from right wing talking heads like Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Dana White, Alina Habba, Roger Stone, and…wait for it…Trump’s boys Barron and Don Jr. The Tates were enthusiastic supporters of Donald Trump.

Then in Feb. 2025, apparently in return for their support, the Trump Administration pressured the Romanian government to allow the Tate Bros to leave Romania and travel freely which they did. Finally, after years of this hideous and criminal behavior every bit as depraved as Jeffery Epstein, the Tates were arrested in Florida a couple of weeks ago at the request of British officials seeking to extradite them to face another raft of similar charges in the UK. The Trump family and administration running interference for the Tate Bros is just as big a scandal as Jeffrey Epstein with far less media coverage.

Pete Hegseth—The chest beating Christian Nationalist and notorious alcoholic, three times married and twice divorced, now handing out testosterone to American troops, has been credibly accused of drugging a woman and raping her. He paid an undisclosed amount of money for her to drop the charges. His own mother called him an abuser of women. Hegseth was confirmed by all the Republican Senators.

Mark Lamb—Republican voters in Arizona just awarded a victory in a Congressional primary to a guy who several women accuse of sending explicit messages and nude photos and then used threats or intimidation to cover it up, initiated sexual encounters between him, his wife and others. One woman also accused the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of burying her complaints after she reported Lamb’s alleged behavior to church leaders. All of this was publicly known, Republicans voted for him anyway.

Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Clarence Thomas—Both were credibly accused of sexual misconduct, but confirmed nonetheless.

Rep. Matt Gaetz—Nominated by Trump for Attorney General, credibly accused of sex trafficking teenagers. He later dropped out himself. He was regularly bragging on the House floor about his sexual exploits.

Rep. Cory Mills (R)—Currently being investigated by the Trump DOJ for sexual and financial misconduct, refusing to step down.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.--- Eliza Cooney, a woman Kennedy hired decades ago to babysit his children, accused Kennedy of sexually assaulting her in the late 1990s. Kennedy’s second wife committed suicide, her diary noted his philandering as a major contributor to her suicidal depression.

Linda McMahon—Confirmed by Senate Republicans as Head of the Dept. of Education. With her husband Vince, she ran the WWE empire. A law suit alleges that multiple WWE staffers sexually assaulted underage boys in the 1980s and 1990s. The lawsuit claims that the McMahons created a work culture that fostered such sexual misconduct. These claims — referred to as the “ring boys scandal” — are discussed in a Netflix docuseries.

Elon Musk—He’s facing lawsuits from eight former SpaceX employees who allege that he wrongfully fired them after they accused the company of tolerating sexual harassment in the workplace. Musk also allegedly interjected the work environment with “vile sexual photographs, memes and commentary that demeaned women.” Musk’s Twitter has failed to remove images of child sexual abuse over recent months—even though they were flagged as such. Musk has fathered 14 children with four different women, I guess because he thinks the world needs his psychopathic, conman genes.

Ken Paxton—After being endorsed by Trump, Paxton won the Republican primary to run for the Senate from Texas. Paxton is a moral lowlife of epic proportions. He faced 20 articles of impeachment from the Texas Legislature for bribery, abuse of power, and obstruction of justice. His adultery was legendary, using burner phones and secret e-mails to communicate with his mistress. As Attorney General he gave a mild slap on the wrist to an attorney friend pedophile who’d been charged with repeated sexual abuse of a boy. Texas Republicans are just fine with a criminal sexual predator pervert representing them in the Senate.

All of this was widely displayed by the National Republican Senatorial Committee on their website, and then all taken down five minutes after Paxton beat John Cornyn in the primary. Because, you know, they have elections to win, and power to hold on to, and God forbid any of them ever vote for Democrat.

Rep. Lauren Boebert—Republicans keep electing her, despite her long history of embarrassing behavior, including famously groping her date in the audience of a public theatre caught on video, for which she was kicked out of the theatre.

Mike Garcia—Texas Republican Congressmen whose staffer committed suicide following an affair he had with her while she was his employee. Garcia nearly won his primary before withdrawing, not because of voter accountability, but to avoid a House ethics investigation. Thousands voted for him anyway.

Now Democrats have had a few sexual predators and criminals. But here’s the huge difference. They got rid of Graham Platner and Eric Swalwell.

If the values you claim to have don’t apply to your President, to your party, to your members of Congress, then just maybe those aren’t really your values after all.

In the Trump Administration Stephen Miller has accumulated immense power to ply his perfidy and malevolence into just about every ounce of policy oozing from the White House. He is the second coming of Joseph Goebbels. It is also clear that Miller is also one of the prime movers of Trump’s overt scheme to subvert, steal, and overthrow the results of the midterm elections.

Last Thursday Trump laid the groundwork for what will eventually be an attack on the results of the fall elections, claiming that our elections are corrupt and can’t be trusted. Oh wait, just the elections where Republicans lose. Of course elections where they win can be trusted.

What has not received anywhere near the attention that it deserves is what Miller, the most vile public figure whose last name isn’t Trump, said the next day at a conference on “political terrorism.” He claimed “leftists” are plotting to “overthrow the government through violence.” This is true only in the world where up is down, black is white, and pigs fly South for the winter.

Of course the truth is the exact opposite. There is no “left wing violence movement.” There is no left wing plot to overthrow the government or the election. Antifa is a non-entity. What there is, is a growing movement of Americans who refuse to capitulate to ICE murdering people in American streets, who refuse to allow fascism to replace our democracy, and who refuse to passively accept unprecedented, naked corruption as the new norm in the White House.

As a follow up to Trump’s lie extravaganza on Thursday, Miller is signaling the pretense for controlling the election they are about to lose will be that all the people who won’t accept Trump’s stealing the election are “violent leftists.” He is hinting that anti-Trumpism is considered terrorism and will be dealt with as harshly. He says those of us that recognize the fascism of Donald Trump are motivated only by “jealousy, envy, and hatred.”

Never, ever let it slip your mind, Trump tried to overthrow the 2020 election. To America’s eternal shame and stupidity, we elected him even after that. Trump will absolutely try it again and the people who stopped him last time are all gone, replaced by treasonous, fascist thugs like Stephen Miller, J.D. Vance, and Pete Hegseth. Miller is announcing the excuse they will use to steal ballot boxes, stop counting the votes, and send the military and right wing paramilitary Trump loyalists in to control anti-Trump protests at the time of the election.

If you can take a bucket of anti-nausea medication, spend 13 minutes listening to Stephen Miller’s mendacity and vile arrogance and condescension.

Following the classic authoritarian playbook, Trump tried to dress up his intent to be America's first fascist dictator with the lipstick of election integrity. I'm guessing 85% of Americans know that Trump’s speech last night was another festival of his egomania, corruption, and lies, and they are tempted to ignore the speech as just the latest eruption of his psychopathy and dementia. Ignoring his speech would be a huge mistake.

Trump’s approval rating of about 33% is a reflection that about half of his supporters don’t care if he’s lying. Some support him because they like to hear his lies, and many of them would prefer to end free and fair elections if it means the evil Democrats never regain power.

I’m guessing 95% of Republicans in Congress also know he’s lying, but because he’s their meal ticket to remaining in Congress long enough to develop rigor mortis, they don’t care either. The only thing they do care about is power, and even though they have ceded all their power to Trump, they stay loyal and attached to Trump like a suckerfish does to a shark for the exact same reason.

Every Republican member of Utah’s Congressional delegation (with the possible exception of Mike Lee) is smart enough to know that Trump is lying about stolen elections and everything else, but they will all remain silent for job security. They all know Donald is the most vile, petty, and cruel person on the planet who’s last name is not Miller (Stephen) or Putin, but for them the gravy train of a Congressional pension Trumps (pun definitely intended) everything else.

So the temptation is for everyone to ignore everything the Conman in Chief says, “Move on, nothing to see here, it’s just the incoherent, mumbling of a psychopath we somehow have to endure for 2 ½ more years.” Even this morning, Faux and Friends didn’t say a single word about Trump’s rantings last night. But that misses what he really did. While I can’t guarantee I’m reading Demented Don's mind (there is no microscope powerful enough to find that one lonely neuron struggling for survival), what he was doing with the speech last night, no doubt orchestrated by zombie Stephen Miller, is laying the ground work to strangle what little we have left of our democracy (thank you Supremely Corrupt Court, SCC). He has long since figured out that the only way he can stay in power is to blow up elections.

And how will he do that?

He will probably fail at getting his Destroy American Democracy Act passed in Congress. But his suckerfish, under the direction of Miller, will try to purge voting rolls in the next few weeks, just like Jeb Bush did for his brother George W. in Florida, which cost Gore the Presidency in 2000. Today Markwayne Mullin threatened prison time for any state election officials who refuse to "purify" their voter roles of illegal immigrants.

Between now and the fall election, Republican billionaires will cough up hundreds of millions of dollars to take full advantage of the SCC’s recent dismantling of the last campaign finance laws we once had.

Come election time, Trump will flood major cities' polling sites with ICE agents. You will note that after two more murders by ICE agents shooting into cars last week, the initial reaction from Tom Homan, the director, was to suspend the policy of shooting into cars. Within 24 hrs, Trump reversed that and said, “No we’re going to keep doing that.” Given that the vast majority of Americans want ICE reigned in, why would Trump do something so unpopular if he cares about winning the election? Because he doesn’t really plan to win the election, he plans to steal it. He wants black and brown people to be scared to death to vote. He wants them to think ICE will be there to arrest, deport, or kill them.

When the presence of ICE triggers any violence, he will use that to declare an emergency justifying Martial Law, giving him the excuse to shut down voting and steal ballot boxes and voting machines using the National Guard’s “Rapid Reaction Force” that he’s assembled over the past six months, and/or the military, and/or the private army of Jan. 6 paramilitary goons that he pardoned and no have no fear of being held accountable. Pete Hegseth, Todd Blanche, and other flying monkeys in his cabinet will be eager to oblige.

There are already lawsuits being prepared for that eventuality, and most of the courts are likely going to uphold the unconstitutionality of such a move. But as we have seen in case after case, once these lawsuits end up before his lap dogs at the SCC, it is no guarantee that they won’t find some way to bastardize the Constitution and give Trump what he wants. They have obviously done it before, repeatedly.

Despite all this Trump election interference, when it becomes clear that Republicans are going to lose one or both Houses of Congress, here’s what will kick in next. In numerous key states like Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia, MAGA election deniers have been quietly replacing local election officials. So if everything else has failed to this point, these officials will refuse to certify any election results Trump tells them to, and they know he will pardon them if necessary. Then the issue will go back to the courts, and eventually it will end up again before the SCC.

Everyone must understand that the fascists are plotting right now to end democracy, and Trump’s speech was just a release of the smoke signals. My best guess is that it will take mass, public demonstrations for weeks on end after the election in order to save our democracy. Trump will declare protesters “radical, left-wing, antifa lunatics, and domestic terrorists.” He’ll declare protesting treason. Trump and Stephen Miller can't wait to order tear gas and perhaps even bullets to reign down on protesters. Many will get arrested, some will get disappeared into a foreign gulag by a complicit dictatorship like in El Salvador.

The only time I've been wrong about Trump in the past, is when I worried I was overreacting. We may not have to storm the beaches of Normandy to save democracy like our fathers and grandfathers did. But you very likely will have to do much more physically than you have done before. We just celebrated America's 250th birthday. If we let Trump steal this election, it will be our last.

Like many of you I have strong, mixed emotions about celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. America has elected a truly despicable, racist, psychopathic, megalomaniac to the Presidency. He has denigrated, defiled, and corrupted the White House and the country, both literally and figuratively, “like no one’s ever seen before.”

He has surrounded himself with sycophantic ghouls, like Stephen Miller and Pete Hegseth.

Miller has engineered a sweeping racist, malevolent, and evil attack on brown and black immigrants. Hegseth glorifies the violence and merciless killing of our "war fighters." He has made our military the refuge of white “Christian” nationalists and misogynists, purging the top ranks of the Pentagon of dozens of black and female generals and high ranking officials, for no reason other than their race or gender. He’s even taken down their historical portraits from the halls of the Pentagon.

Hegseth’s religious mentor, Doug Wilson, is such a sexist, patriarchal, and religious bigot that he doesn’t think Mormons should be able to vote, and that only the male heads of households should be able to vote.

In recent decades, hate, intolerance, and toxic masculinity has been stirred into American society by those who realized their potential for monetary gain beginning with Rush Limbaugh and talk radio. A few years later Rupert Murdoch brought the same business model to TV and Faux News. And then recently the ability to monetize tribalism, hate, intolerance, and immigrant scapegoating has exploded thanks to the algorithms of social media and their money-grubbing, soulless CEOs.

The nauseating spectacle of glorifying violence on the White House lawn as a spectator sport, Ultimate Fighting, is chilling manifestation of the degenerate character of the American psyche.

Last week the Supremely Corrupt Court ruled the Trump Administration can end Temporary Protected Status for 1.3 million immigrants from 17 different countries. The next day, right wing witch Megyn Kelly went on a vulgar, racist tirade about Haitians, yelling, "Go home! Get out! We know our country is better than yours…That's because we filled it with our work ethic, culture, and values. You being here only dilutes it for us… GO BACK TO F—ING HAITI!"

When ICE gets a hold of these desperate immigrants (Stephen Miller can’t wait), and sends them back to their countries ravaged by violence, civil war or natural disasters (the reason they were allowed to come in the first place) many of them will die or be killed. The callousness and cruelty sanctified by our Supreme Court is frightening.

This degeneracy of American society should be lamented by anyone of decency and good will. I remind you on July 4th that this animus is a perversion of America’s DNA, and an aberration even within the Republican Party.

In 1976, on the celebration of 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, President Gerald Ford spoke at a ceremony honoring newly naturalized American citizens. He said:

“I am very proud to welcome all of you as citizens of the United States of America. You’ve given us a present beyond price, yourself. Our founders wanted this beautiful land to be a home for equal freedom and opportunity, a haven of safety and happiness, not for themselves alone, but for all who would come to us through the centuries.” He continued…

“How well they built this is told by millions upon millions who came and are still coming. Immigrants came from almost everywhere, singly and in waves. Such transfusions of traditions and cultures, as well as of blood, have made America unique among nations and Americans a new kind of people.

“Unfettered by ancient hates, the people of the young United States really believed that all men are created equal. The essential fact is that the United States--as a national policy and in the hearts of most Americans-has been willing to absorb anyone from anywhere. We offered citizenship to all, and we have been richly rewarded. You came as strangers among us and you leave here as citizens, equal in fundamental rights, equal before the law, with an equal share in the promise of the future.”

In 1981, the patron saint of the Republican Party, Ronald Reagan, issued a "Statement on United States Immigration and Refugee Policy" in which he outlined his goals to continue America's tradition of welcoming people from other countries, especially those fleeing oppression. He called for the millions of undocumented "illegal immigrants" present in the country to be given recognition and a path to legal status.

A proper celebration of our 250th anniversary requires at least this recognition: By the 1960s, hate, intolerance, and racism were widely considered no longer acceptable, even if they continued to smolder out of view. But Donald Trump’s presidency has brought hate, bigotry, and self absorption out of the closet once again. It has institutionalized and normalized a vicious tribalism and wholesale lack of empathy or sense of obligation to contribute to the greater good, or to care for anyone other than ourselves.

What we have lost through Donald Trump’s Presidency we must now resolve to restore. Once upon a time, at least we aspired to be a nation of Good Samaritans, we must aspire to be that again.

I woke up this morning and my house smelled like smoke because I had inadvertently left a window open last night about an inch. We’ve had wildfires and brush fires in the area, no doubt that is the reason why the air so bad this morning. But if you live on the East side of the SL Valley, what the US Forest Service (USFS) is planning will make you breathe this kind of air pollution every fall and spring for the next ten years. Like tens of thousands of other Utahns, I have a life threatening medical condition highly exacerbated by air pollution, so I have no choice but to go to war against the USFS’s plans for Big Cottonwood Canyon. I hope you’ll join me. Please read on.

One only need look at the anemic snow pack in the Wasatch Mountains to see the heavy footprint of the climate crisis in real time in Utah. Drought-stressed forests certainly face increased wildfire risk, but the USFS’s solution to protecting our forests from wildfires is to cut and burn them down pre-emptively. And they intend to start in Big Cottonwood Canyon (BCC). It’s reminiscent of the American army officer that said about a village during the Vietnam War, “It became necessary to destroy the town to save it.”

Invoking a tiresome and largely false premise--that Western forests are overgrown, unhealthy tinderboxes from decades of fire suppression—the USFS intends to launch a ten year long, chain saw extravaganza, called the “Big Cottonwood Canyon Watershed Restoration Project.” A more honest description is, “We’re going to butcher the forest into smaller pieces so there is less for a wildfire to burn.” They plan “thinning treatments” on 4,910 acres, and up to 11,794 acres of prescribed burning of national forest in BCC and its tributaries.”

For the next decade, visitors hoping to see the beauty of nature in Big Cottonwood Canyon will be treated to buzzing chain saws, slash piles, and hideous burn scars. At night, throughout the fall and spring, canyon winds will reign down toxic smoke on the Valley’s Eastside. The canyon’s aesthetic disfigurement will be visible for at least 20 years. Loss of wildlife may be permanent.

It gets worse. The euphemisms, “prescribed” and “treatment,” are intentionally used to suggest a doctor ordered it, but this project is forest and wildfire malpractice, climate malpractice, and public health malpractice.

The USFS has constructed an “excessive fuels” narrative that has convinced many policy makers and mountain home owners that high severity fire in the worst possible places is inevitable without “treatment,” otherwise known as deforestation, which they claim reduces fire risk and severity. Many independent forest researchers offer a markedly contrasting opinion on both counts.

The climate crisis is the main driver of Western forests’ new wildfire vulnerability, not tree density or “excessive fuels.” The largest relevant study ever done, examining over 1,500 fires covering 23 million acres, concluded the more “thinning” of trees in a forest the more quickly and intensely a wildfire burns. Thinning reduces forest shade, increases forest temperature and wind speed, dries out soil and vegetation, and stresses remaining trees. The most widely cited forest ecologist in the world, Dr. David Lindenmayer, author of 48 books on forests, says, “logged forests always burn at greater severity than intact forests.” In other words, this is forest malpractice.

The chance of a wildfire encountering a “prescribed burn” area is 2-4%. So the USFS is causing a lot of guaranteed harm for a small chance at questionable benefit. This is like putting all your retirement money into lottery tickets—-extremely poor risk management.

It is also climate malpractice. Every one of the thousands of trees to be cut down in BCC and throughout the Wasatch tilts that carbon equation in the wrong direction. The slash piles will be turned into bonfires, immediately releasing more CO2, and launching deadly pollution in every direction, including black carbon nanoparticles that accelerate the melt of mountain snow-pack and are the most potent climate forcer after CO2.

It is public health malpractice. Putting the word “prescribed” in front of “burn” fools some people into thinking the smoke is benign. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, emissions from “low intensity” prescribed burns may be more toxic than those from large wildfires. Other studies have shown that per ton of biomass burned, low intensity burns produce more smoke emissions than higher intensity burns. Not surprisingly, a recent study concluded that smoke from prescribed burns kills more people than wildfire smoke.

The residual ash from thousands of slash pile bonfires are essentially unlined, unregulated, mini-superfund sites. They are saturated with the same witch’s brew of toxins that contaminate the smoke—heavy metals, PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), dioxins, acrolein, formaldehyde, and hydroxide ions that sterilize the soil, and may seep into groundwater and even surface water. The USFS frequently covers those piles with plastic tarps, burning them as well, increasing the toxicity.

The project includes spraying herbicides to kill saplings and other unwanted vegetation. Herbicides are biologic poisons to virtually all organisms proven to cause a wide range of human and wildlife diseases at relevant environmental exposures. Of pesticides released since 2015, 70% of them are also PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” the most toxic industrial chemicals ever produced for which the Biden EPA declared there is essentially no safe level of exposure. It is jarring that the USFS claims this project will protect watershed and water quality while adding toxic chemicals.

The smoke we’re smelling today is from two lightning-caused fires in Lincoln County Nevada, 200+ miles away, driven by drought, wind, and low snowpack. No amount of pile burning in Big Cottonwood Canyon will stop that, and we will pay a heavy price for the USFS’s commitment to this false narrative.
