I thought it was time for a little catch-up on some of the things that have been making me very happy lately.

You know those moments when you find a beauty product that instantly becomes part of your routine, a TV show that you binge far too quickly or a book that makes you want to cancel all your plans and stay on the sofa?

Well… I’ve got a few of those for you.

So, grab a cup of tea (or something stronger, absolutely no judgement here!) and let’s get into it.

BEAUTY:

CLINIQUE DAILY CALM FOUNDATION MAKEUP BALM

First up, something that has been getting a LOT of love from me lately is the Clinique’s new daily calm balm. Its a skincare-infused foundation balm that provides sheer, buildable coverage to even the look of skin tone and minimise visible redness. If you’re someone who wants your skin to look like skin, rather than feeling like you’re wearing a layer of foundation, this is definitely one to have on your radar.

It gives that lovely fresh, polished, healthy-looking finish without feeling heavy, which I think is particularly gorgeous as our skin changes.

I’m all about makeup that makes you look like you, just having a particularly good skin day.

And honestly… who doesn’t want that?!

BENEFIT POREFESSIONAL CONCEALER.

This is a product that has secured a firm place in my makeup bag recently.

I’m always looking for a concealer that does the job without making the under-eye look dry, heavy or ..heaven forbid barely visible. I want my under eyes to look fresh and like I’ve had a really good nights sleep… I mean isn’t this what we all want from our concealers? And this one has been a winner for me.

It’s got great coverage which is really hydrating and has around 76% skincare in it so you know you’ve got that side covered but at the same time its also sweat and water resistant, which in this climate we’ve been having is an absolutely must!!

My top tips? Less is more! Try not to pile the concealer under your entire eye, this can lead to it looking cakey and sitting in fine lines. A little strategically placed, in the areas that need it, tends to look more flawless (remember you can always add more).

Another tip, if you have a few minutes let the concealer sit, this helps concentrate the coverage where you want it rather than it blending out straight away. If you don’t have time, don’t worry, gently pat (rather than swipe) the concealer in and it will melt seamlessly.

Think: less “I’m covering my face”, more “I had a really good night’s sleep”.

Even if you absolutely did not.

WHAT I’VE BEEN WATCHING:

I’ve also been doing what I consider to be an extremely important part of my self-care routine…Watching television.

“The My Five-Star Weekend”:

Which stars Jennifer Garner, gorgeous Nantucket scenery, friendship, relationships and a little bit of drama. It’s all about one women bringing together three very different women from different stages of her life for one unforgettable weekend. Friendship, food and fabulous scenery… what’s not to love?

It also got me thinking could this actually work? Apart from trying to get everyone’s schedules to actually aline, which always seems the most impossible thing ever, could you actually bring together a group of friend, from each walk of your life, and do a weekend together…. There’s something about a little bit of escapism, gorgeous surroundings and the idea of spending proper quality time with people you love that really appeals to me. But realistically would it work?

That’s the kind of premises of the show, and I really liked that about it. It’s a bit of a slow burn to start but once you get into it I actually really enjoyed it and found great fondness for the characters.

Also the location is amazing and I was straight online looking it up and seeing if there were any holiday homes available next year!! Ha ha

“My Brilliant Career”:

I’ve also been watching My Brilliant Career on Netflix, which has been another great little watch. Set in 1900 Australia, it’s about a very headstrong young woman who wants to become a writer rather than simply get married and do what society expects of her. Throw in gorgeous costumes, romance, drama and a heroine who refuses to behave herself, and I’m sold! Think period drama with a modern attitude basically, my cup of tea.

Plus, Christopher Chung who plays ‘Roddy’ from Slow Horses is the love interest and if you have watched him in that you would think this was the most unlikely character for him! However, Christopher Chung does an absolutely brilliant job as a heartthrob!!

I’m really enjoying the rough round the edges, characters and look of period pieces at the moment.

I saw the trailer for the new Sense and Sensibility and that too has this gorgeous warn and unpolished feel to it which I just think makes these kind of dramas appear much more real.

I remember working on the Joe Write Pride and Prejudice Back in 2005 and I loved it when the background cast had to go completely makeup free. Joe wanted everything to look as realistic as possible so it was just wigs and hardly and makeup at all and it just looked so beautiful and real!!

What I’ve Been Reading:

📚 MY CURRENT BOOK OBSESSION Andrea Mara’s “Such a Nice Girl”.

Now, if you follow me, you’ll know that I am a lover of a naughty book (hence Bonk The Naughty Book Club) but I also love a good thriller! Andrea Mara has been a big favourite of mine ever since I found one of her books in a hotel library while I was on holiday. Since then I have never looked back! She captures your attention straight away and has so many twists and turns throughout the story.

She’s my absolute go-to for a holiday read, especially as there are always quite a lot of characters that you really do have to pay attention, but trust me once you start one of her boots it is SOOOO hard to put it down, and this one did not disappoint.

I’m not going to give anything away, but if you like a good thriller that makes you think you know what’s going on… only to make you question absolutely everything… give it a go!

It’s definitely one of those books where you say: “I’ll just read one more chapter.” And suddenly it’s 11.47pm and you have work in the morning. Not that I’ve done that. Obviously.

And then there’s Emily English. It is no secret I bloody love Emily’s cookery books, she is now a client of mine, so I do have to try and keep it cool when I’m around her and not ask a million question! In all honesty, everything I cook from her books is just 10/10 and so easy to make!! Big fan! I have all her books and I reach for them every evening. Her “So good Express” was the latest launch and its just fantastic. Plus it’s healthly too and in a really delicious way, so you know your getting your protein and fibre in there which is always a bonus!

Give me something simple, delicious and actually realistic for a Tuesday night and I’m happy.

A LITTLE PARIS ESCAPE

While we’re discussing things that make me happy….

I recently had a weekend break in Paris with my bestie. And honestly? You don’t always need a two week holiday. Sometimes you need 48 hours, a suitcase the size of a shoebox, a very good friend and an unreasonable amount of bread and cheese - common can it get any better?

There is something so lovely about disappearing for a couple of days with one of your favourite people, walking around, seeing breathtaking architecture, drinking coffee, eating delicious food, seeing the sparkly Eiffel Tower and chatting about absolutely everything and nothing…

And coming home feeling like you’ve had a proper reset. My advice?

Book the weekend. Stop waiting for the “perfect” time. You don’t need to have two weeks off work or a huge travel budget to make memories. Sometimes a little adventure is exactly what you need. And this was it for me - LOVED it and it made me very happy.

AND FINALLY… SOMETHING VERY EXCITING!

This one feels particularly special because it has been a long time in the making.

You know how passionate I am about making makeup accessible, fun and easy to use, and that why doing this edit with MUA has been a dream. MUA makeup isn’t always known by everyone and I really wanted to bring it to the foreground and show that you can have truly incredible products, that are cruelty free, vegan, inclusive, actually work AND be affordable!

Products that don’t require you to be a professional makeup artist to understand what you’re doing with them. And, most importantly, makeup that makes you feel good! Because that is what all of this is about for me. Not looking “perfect”. Not following every single makeup rule. Just finding little things that help you look in the mirror and think:

“Oh, I look bloody lovely today!” And if I can help you feel that way, then I’ve done my job.

You deserve it.

Being truthful.. I was incredibly nervous. I noticed when I mentioned my nerves to people, they couldn’t quite understand. They’d respond with “But you’ve done this so many times before”. Whilst that is true, I still felt that anxiety. It’s a funny thing isn’t it, to have been away from something that once felt completely normal to going back and it suddenly feeling like stepping into unfamiliar territory & the pressure appears more intense. Whilst pressure makes diamonds, or so the phrase goes, it can be challenging, especially when that pressure comes from yourself.

I found myself worrying; Will I get brain fog and forget my words? - something that seems to be happening more often these days.. and no, I’m refusing to blame perimenopause, although it very well could be! Will I remember all the important details about the products? Will I do the brands justice while explaining everything in a way that’s easy for people to understand? I never want to sound robotic or scared, so I was trying so hard to keep my nerves under control, oh and not rush!

Yes, honestly, all those thoughts are going through my head in the first few moments of the camera being on me… and then .. just like that, it’s over. It made me reflect, it’s amazing how quickly we can start doubting our own abilities isn’t it? And, how we can become our own harshest critics. Something I find quite ironic as someone who shares so much of their life on social media, opening up the opportunity for criticism. But, I don’t think I’m alone in this feeling, and think people can resonate with that feeling, and if you do you’re not alone. It doesn’t matter what you do for a living, whether you’re a teacher, a managing director, an actor, a singer or anything else. I think everyone has had moments where we question ourselves and wonder if we’re really good enough. But, what if we only have to be “good enough” for ourselves…

One thing I’ve always tried to do, especially in my work, is say yes to the things that scare me.

Now, I don’t mean pretending I can do something I’ve got absolutely no idea how to do! But if an opportunity comes along that stretches me or pushes me outside my comfort zone, I’ve learnt to lean into it rather than run away from it.

Because every time I’ve said yes, I’ve surprised myself, I’ve enjoyed it and done it well!

Presenting is the perfect example. Trust me, I’m definitely not about to become the next host of Strictly Come Dancing! (I know some of you were wondering, but luckily it’s been announced Ha Ha ). If I had listened to that little voice telling me I wasn’t good enough all those years ago, I wouldn’t be here writing this today, telling you about my presenting experience.

One phone call over ten years ago asking me to present the beauty segment changed the direction of my career in ways I could never have imagined. It opened doors I never knew existed. In fact, if it hadn’t been for that opportunity, I probably wouldn’t have started sharing on social media at all. Isn’t it incredible how one brave “yes” can completely change the path you’re on?

So I suppose what I really want to say is this...

The next time that little voice in your head tells you, “Don’t be ridiculous. You can’t do that,” don’t let it have the final say & perhaps challenge it. Maybe you won’t be brilliant the first time, maybe you’ll make mistakes, Maybe you’ll even discover it’s not for you.

But maybe...

Maybe you’ll learn a new skill. Maybe you’ll discover a confidence you never knew you had. Maybe you’ll open a door that leads somewhere you never expected. Maybe, you’ll be “good enough” for yourself..

And even if it doesn’t work out, you’ll never have to wonder, What if?

So take the leap, have a little faith in yourself. You are far more capable than you probably give yourself credit for.

You never know where one brave “yes” might lead. Oh and just to add, nerves are a completely normal part of the human experience!

Here’s to your next yes, to choosing you’re good enough, and to doing things that scare us!

“Oh my goodness, I don’t need anymore friends. I can barely keep up with the ones I already have.”

And honestly, it made me feel a little sad. Not because they’re wrong, but because some of the most meaningful friendships in my life have been made in recent years.

Don’t get me wrong, I have some incredible friends whom I’ve known almost my entire life. Some of them I’ve known since I was four years old. I adore them and treasure their friendship deeply. They’re woven into the fabric of who I am today. We grew up together. We navigated family divorces, travelled the world, stood beside each other as bridesmaids, and held hands through the births of their children. We have been present for so many of each of our life defining moments. Those friendships are irreplaceable, and I know that no matter how much time passes, one phone call would bring us running to each other’s side.

To me, that’s more than friendship. It’s family. It’s soulmate-level connection.

But, who says we can only have those kinds of friendships when we’re young?

Why do we assume that our deepest bonds have to be formed in childhood or our early twenties? Life doesn’t necessarily get easier as we get older. In fact, the challenges often become more complex. Careers, relationships, marriages, children, ageing parents, the emotional weight of life can grow heavier.

That’s why I believe the friendships we consciously choose as adults can be just as important as the ones we inherited through childhood.

My job is incredibly social. As a makeup artist, I’m literally in someone’s personal space, and part of my role is making people feel comfortable very quickly. It can become surprisingly intimate.

It’s true what they say: your makeup artist often becomes your therapist or sounding board.

People share so much of themselves while sitting in your chair. They confide in you, tell you their worries, their hopes, and often allow you into some of the most significant moments of their lives. Naturally, strong connections are formed.

However, one lesson I’ve learned over the years is that while there may be friendship and closeness, clients are still clients. For me personally, I’ve try not to blur those lines too much. There may come a day when they decide to try someone new, and if you’ve mistaken a professional relationship for a personal one, it can feel incredibly hurtful. It keeps the lines clear, and those professional boundaries in place.

That doesn’t mean you can’t make genuine friendships through work.

Some of my closest friends have come from my career. The difference is that they’re colleagues, fellow crew members, and other makeup artists, not clients. These are the people who understand my world, support me through the challenges of the job, and have my back when things get tough. Those workplace friendships can be absolutely invaluable.

I’ve also formed friendships through social media.

It still feels slightly strange to think that you can connect with someone through a screen and build a real friendship. But when you’re lucky enough to meet those people in real life and discover that the connection is just as genuine, it’s such a wonderful feeling.

Social media can be a daunting and overwhelming place, but it can also bring together people who would never otherwise cross paths. I’ve met fellow creators who understand the unique challenges of navigating this online world, and those friendships have enriched my life in ways I never expected.

In fact, some of the most inspiring, talented, kind and hilarious people I’ve ever met have come into my life later on. Sometimes the connection is instant. You just get each other. You instinctively know that person is going to become an important part of your journey.

So, if you’ve been struggling with friendships, or you’ve convinced yourself you’re a bad friend because you haven’t kept in touch, let this be your sign; call them.

It doesn’t matter if it’s been months or even years. If someone keeps popping into your mind, there’s probably a reason. Reach out. Arrange a coffee. Send the message. Don’t let life’s busyness get in the way of meaningful connection.

And perhaps most importantly, don’t close yourself off from making new friends.

A good friend is one of life’s greatest gifts. The wonderful thing is that there is no age limit on finding one.

Some of the people who will change your life forever may still be waiting for you to meet them.

It got me thinking: is going back to the place where you were happiest good for the soul, or does it make you sad for what has passed?

Unfortunately, my stepfather couldn’t join us this time. He’s now in a wheelchair, and the journey would simply have been too difficult and overwhelming for him. That was hard, because this place has always been him and my mum’s happy place, especially my mum who’s been coming since she was in her late twenties. I think part of the reason she keeps returning is because some places hold versions of herself she doesn’t want to lose.

For me, I usually love discovering somewhere new. I love travelling, seeing different places, and experiencing new things all the time. I’m always the person looking for the next adventure, the next flight, the next restaurant no one’s heard of yet. But I have to admit, going back was really special in a way I hadn’t expected.

There was something strange about returning to a place that once felt enormous when I was little. The roads seem smaller, the restaurants have changed, and yet the feeling of the place somehow stays exactly the same. The smell of sun cream and grilled fish in the evening air instantly transported me back to childhood summers where the days felt endless and our only real concern was whether we could stay in the pool for “five more minutes!”

Of course, there were moments of sadness too. We’re no longer children without a care in the world, spending endless days on the beach, eating prawns, collecting beetles, body surfing the waves till the sand had embedded itself into your swimming costume and thinking summer would last forever. Life has moved on. People are older. Circumstances change. Some people who once filled those memories can no longer make the trip.

But, there was also something incredibly comforting about revisiting it all.

Seeing familiar faces we hadn’t seen in years. Eating the food I loved as a child. Remembering how we used to beg our parents for orange Sumol and those ice creams with bubble gum hidden at the bottom. Even hearing certain songs playing in restaurants made me feel about eight years old again. The definition of nostalgia!

One of the loveliest parts, though, was experiencing it all through my niece and nephew’s eyes. Watching them create the same kinds of memories we did felt unexpectedly emotional. They adored the endless Uno games while waiting for supper, the endless pool races, and arguing over who got the watermelon inflatable versus the kiwi one. Getting dressed up for dinner, staying up too late with my mum and brother, playing Shit Head, and playing silly quizzes while drinking Super Bock (if you know you know)

And that’s when I realised something: going back isn’t really about trying to relive the past. You can’t! That version of life is gone, as it should be. It’s more about reconnecting with pieces of yourself and the people you love. It’s about honouring happy memories while still allowing room for new ones to be made.

I believe when memories are rooted in love and happiness, revisiting them can feel healing. Familiar places remind us where we came from and who we’ve shared life with. Of course, I can imagine it being much harder when grief is attached, when every corner reminds you of someone you’ve lost, or all you can think is, “This was the last time we did this together.”

But maybe that’s also why it matters to go back if you can.

So, I suppose what I’ve learnt reflecting back, is to do it before it’s too late. To go back to the special places, visit the friends you haven’t seen in ages, order the meal you always used to have and laugh at the stories you’ve told a hundred times before. And, whilst doing it, appreciate that we all have a few more lines to show for it and a few more memories to share.

I’ve learned to do it while you still can, while there is still time and space. If you are lucky enough to return there is a wonderful opportunity to create new memories in those old places too, which one day will become the stories you look back on just as fondly.

The new places will still be there, but perhaps don’t be frightened to return to a place that holds something special.

Firstly… sorry I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately. Work has been CRAZY busy, and honestly, I just haven’t had the time to properly sit down and get my head into writing.

One thing I’ve always wanted this platform to be is an extension of me, not just somewhere I post for the sake of posting. I never want to fill it with unnecessary drivel or force content just to hit a schedule. So I’ve decided I’m not going to pressure myself into posting every single week anymore. I don’t want this newsletter to become a repeat of what I share elsewhere and feared it was becoming that. By taking the pressure off, it can become more personal, a little peek into what I’ve been loving, watching, wearing, how I’ve been feeling and what I’ve been doing lately in life, both professionally and personally. I’d like it to be something useful for you guys and somewhere you get a little more of me too 😊.

Sometimes I struggle to separate those two parts of me. There’s the MUA part, where discretion is everything, it’s never about me, it’s about the person in my chair. It’s such an intimate and private environment. When I’m working I naturally switch off my ‘social media’ brain. Then there is the social media part, which is constantly creating ideas for content, filming, editing, working with brands and it never stops. Both parts I love, I find it hard switching between the two, and then find the transition to sitting down and writing about myself & the things I love surprisingly difficult and more time consuming than people may realise. So I would like to thank you for being patient with me - I appreciate it hugely.

That being said, I have really enjoyed thinking about all the things that have been filling my cup recently! So let’s get into it!

Books:

I recently read ‘Her Husband’s Wife’ by Alice Feeney and WOW.

For me, a book has to hook me in the first chapter or I’m done, and this absolutely did that. The premise alone is enough to pull you in: a woman goes for a run, comes home, and her key no longer works. Another woman answers the door and tells her she’s mistaken… because this is her house, her family, and her husband!

It’s twisty, fast-paced, gripping and exactly what you want from a thriller. I’ve always loved Alice Feeney books, ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ is still one of my favourites, but this one genuinely kept me guessing right until the end. If you’re looking for a thriller that pulls you straight in, definitely give it a go.

TV:

Can we PLEASE talk about The Pitt?

If, like me, you were obsessed with ER back in the day and also loved Grey’s Anatomy (although I admittedly checked out around season 8 because honestly… how many dramatic life events can one person survive?!) Then this is absolutely for you.

The whole series is set up in hourly slots during one hospital shift in the emergency room, which makes it feel so intense. Noah Wylie is brilliant in it, and the whole thing feels incredibly realistic & gritty, and at times gory but while still being very entertaining.

I LOVE it.

My only complaint? Waiting a whole week for the next episode. Torture!

Films:

I went into ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ fully prepared to be disappointed… and I was pleasantly surprised.

I adore the first film, but lately I’ve found so many movies feel overly cheesy, with product placement so obvious it becomes distracting. It gives me major Sex and the City movie flashbacks, and listen, I’m a SATC girl forever, but the films felt like every designer brand in the world had exploded onto the screen.

So, I worried Devil Wears Prada 2 might feel similar, but thankfully it didn’t. I found it sophisticated, funny, surprisingly relatable, and I really loved seeing how the characters had grown. I even dragged my partner along, who absolutely wasn’t interested and even he enjoyed it in the end.

I’ve also been fully back in my 90s thriller era recently. Things like The Firm, The Pelican Brief and Double Jeopardy (which I’ve probably watched 20 times at this point).

There’s just something about those action-packed “whodunnit” thrillers where the goodie wins in the end. Elite cinema if you ask me.

Clothes:

I’ve been on the hunt for some holiday bits recently because I’m going away with my mum and half the family soon. We genuinely have no idea what the weather’s going to do, so I’ve been looking for pieces that work in sunshine but can also be layered with trousers and jumpers if needed.

And honestly? Next has been my go-to lately. They’ve had SO many lovely bits in. I’ll tag a few favourites soon, but definitely check out my Instagram too because I’ve been doing lots of try-ons over there.

Makeup:

I’m still loving the Tropic CC Satin Skin Tint in Medium. Such a gorgeous light weight everyday base. And it’s a SPF 50 so it’s perfect for the warmer months.

And can we talk cream blushes? There are SO many amazing ones out there right now, but the ones from MUA Makeup Academy are incredible for the price. Beautiful pigment, lovely finish on the skin, loads of shades… I truly believe MUA is such an underrated brand. Affordable products that perform just as well as some high-end makeup!

Skincare:

FINALLY… my perioral dermatitis has calmed down!! Woooo!

My skin is still super sensitive though, so I’m being really careful with what I use. One product I always come back to is the Hada Labo Tokyo Intense Hydrating Lotion. My skin drinks it up every single time. It leaves everything feeling thoroughly hydrated, bouncy and glowy without ever causing irritation.

I’ve also been loving the colour correctors from Isamaya Beauty. The formulas are beautiful, creamy, hydrating and lightweight, especially if you struggle with dry under-eyes and dark circles. The packaging/application can be a tiny bit messy, but the actual finish on the skin makes up for it. I would also advise going lighter than you think, I wear a light to medium and the medium was very dark. Definitely worth swatching if you’re in Space NK anytime soon.

You guys also know I’ve been obsessed with the Anua Azelaic Acid 10 Hyaluron Redness Soothing Serum lately, for calming redness and irritation. I’ve now started using their Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil too and it’s gorgeous. It melts makeup off beautifully without leaving your skin tight or stripped afterwards, perfect if you have sensitive skin like me.

The new JoJo Beauty Mitts are SO good, I already loved the JoJo Glow beauty pads, but the new mitts, so good! The microfibres are irresistibly soft and they remove makeup very quickly. You can use them with just warm water, but I personally love using them to remove cleanser. I always pack them when I travel too.

What’s making me happiest lately? FOOD. Obviously!

I’ve already started cooking from “So Good Express” by Emily English and it’s SO good. Her recipes are full of protein, nutrition and flavour without feeling complicated. If you don’t already follow her, or have any of her other books, definitely check out her Instagram because she shares loads of brilliant recipes there too.

And lastly… the most important recommendation of this entire newsletter: Portuguese Tarts. (Pastel de Nata)

A few years ago, my other half and I discovered Patisserie Lisboa near Portobello Road Market and became completely obsessed with their pastel de nata. But recently, a Portuguese friend told me I HAD to try Santa Nata.

OMG.

They are unreal! Super creamy filling, perfectly flaky pastry… genuinely melt-in-your-mouth good. My perfect Sunday consists of me and my boyfriend on the motorbike, riding around London in the sunshine, stopping for coffee and a pastel de nata somewhere along the way. It really doesn’t get any better than that!

If you ever walk past a Santa Nata in London — GO IN. Trust me. You won’t regret it.

If you grew up in the 90’s you would have seen Cruel Intentions which is another fantastic adaptation of it and made me fall head over heels in love with Reece Witherspoon and her then hubby Ryan Phillippe, who were just fantastic. If you haven’t seen it pop it on your list right now!!!

In this adaptation Manville plays the Marquise de Merteuil and Aidan Turner is Valmont, and they’re both so good and so watchable. There’s this constant back-and-forth between them where you’re not quite sure who’s winning, and it’s equal parts fun and a bit brutal. Then Monica Barbaro as Madame de Tourvel brings a softness that makes everything hit harder as the story goes on. Plus her accent and dancing throughout was spectacular!

What I didn’t expect was how much movement and dance there was woven through. It’s not a full-on dance show, but it pops up in really clever ways that make everything feel more physical and emotional, like you’re seeing what the characters can’t quite say out loud. It made the performance feel more modern than you’d expect from something set in that world. I honestly left their thinking… how do they do 8 shows a week?? It must take so much out of them because you can see and feel just how much passion they put into each performance!

Also, the whole experience of being there. Sitting in a dark room, actually focusing on one thing for a couple of hours (rare these days), and being completely drawn in. No phone, no distractions, just a really good story being told by a brilliant group of actors.

I walked out feeling lighter, brighter, and desperate to book something else to see -(the ice cream helped too).

It did make me reflect how easy it is to forget to do these kinds of things. We get busy, or tired, and just take to the easy option (hello, sofa), but going to see something live and creative hits differently. I find it shakes me out of my head a bit. I feel we all need more of this, more art, more stories, more moments. They change the routine, give a fresh perspective, and remind me/us how good it feels to be inspired.

So, consider this you’re gentle nudge: book the ticket. Go see the play. Wander into the gallery. Say yes to something creative.

It’s actually very good for the soul.

For reasons I cannot fully explain (and frankly, won’t try to) I have become utterly obsessed with lip liners. Like… emotionally attached. Lipstick on its own? Absolutely not. Not on my watch.

I’m blaming the whole blurred lip trend, thank you very much Nina Park, because now I simply can’t get enough!

The lip liners I keep reaching for (and by “reaching,” I mean clutching like a security blanket) are the Make Up For Ever liners. Specifically: Endless Cacao, Wherever Walnut, and Anywhere Caffeine. Honestly, I am addicted to these guys.

It’s quite funny, actually. When I started at London College of Fashion back in 2002, our entire kit was Make Up For Ever. At the time, I didn’t really know the brand, it felt bold, bright, and slightly terrifying. I was nervous, new, and just trying to figure out what on earth I was doing.

Fast forward to now, and I’m buying it, loving it, and wondering why I was ever intimidated. Funny how things come full circle, isn’t it? Back then it was “please help me use this,” and now it’s “I’ll take three, thanks.”

Skincare:

I’ve recently stripped my skincare right back because I’m still battling Perioral Dermatitis (which, quite frankly, can do one).

So it’s all about gentle, soothing products at the moment, and I’ve been loving the Trilogy range, especially the Rosehip Cleansing Balm and Oil. They’re calming, nourishing, and smell incredible (which, let’s be honest, helps when your skin is having a full-blown meltdown).

The Rosehip Oil in particular is brilliant for scarring and just generally comforting my very red, slightly dramatic skin. I’ve also been using the CurrentBody LED Light Therapy Mask for about three weeks now, and I have to say… I am seeing improvement. It’s slow, but it’s happening. Plus, I’ve grown quite fond of the nightly ritual—and apparently, so has my other half, who finds the whole glowing-face situation deeply amusing.

Toothpaste (yes, really):

I know, Toothpaste in a favourites list feels like I’ve officially run out of ideas—but stay with me. Because of my perioral dermatitis, I’ve been advised to switch to fluoride-free toothpaste, as fluoride can aggravate it. So I did as I was told (rare, I know), and picked up the Kingfisher Fluoride-free Toothpaste, and actually… I really like it.

So there you go—not boring, just unexpectedly life-relevant. Although I do slightly fear my next dentist appointment…

Food:

The Marks & Spencer Blonde Chocolate Pecans.

That’s it. That’s the paragraph 😂.

They are outrageously good! Slightly dangerous. Borderline addictive.

If you’re doing something a bit different for Easter this year, I love the idea of filling an egg-shaped box with little treats instead of the traditional egg—and these would be an absolute showstopper. (If they make it into the box and don’t get eaten first.)

TV:

“The Madison”

I was lucky enough to attend an event hosted by Gabby Logan (yes, I did feel very cool), alongside some incredible women like Donna Ashworth, (who is an amazing poet and I instantly rushed out to buy her latest book - Joy Chose You. Alongside Anita Rani and the legend herself, Lulu.

The evening celebrated a new series on Paramount+ called The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell.

It’s set in the Yellowstone universe and follows a wealthy New York family relocating to Montana.

It explores grief, identity, and what happens when your perfectly curated life is turned completely upside down.

Now, this could sound heavy, but it’s not depressing. It’s honest. Raw, beautifully done, and completely absorbing. Also, the Montana scenery? Unreal. And yes… a few very good-looking cowboys don’t hurt either.

Film

“I Swear”

You know when a film just stays with you? This is one of those.

It tells the true story of a young Scottish man (John Davidson) who lives with Tourette syndrome navigating life, bullying, and ultimately learning to embrace who he is.

Robert Aramayo is absolutely phenomenal, I was thrilled he won a BAFTA for it, and rightly so.

It’s hard-hitting, genuinely funny in places, and incredibly important. A real must-watch.

Fashion

Pyjamas. From Marks & Spencer.

Not groundbreaking, I know, but hear me out.

How often do we actually invest in nice pyjamas? If you’re anything like me, the answer is… never.

Mine have historically been a chaotic mix of PR gifts and ancient T-shirts that should have been retired years ago. So I finally upgraded.

And honestly? Game changer. Just pure comfort. I feel like a new woman, one who has her life together (at least between the hours of 10pm and 7am). These are the second pair I purchased.

Comfort:

My Small Chilcott Hot Water Bottle.

Yes, we are (hopefully) leaving hot water bottle season behind… but for that time of the month, it remains non-negotiable.

I still get quite bad cramps, and this one is perfect, it fits comfortably on your tummy and comes with a little lavender pouch that smells incredible once warmed.

It’s simple, but honestly, it’s exactly what I need when I’m craving comfort.

So, that’s a little snapshot of what I’ve been loving, leaning on, and slightly obsessing over lately.

Personally, I’ve always loved a surprise… but I think I love surprising other people even more. There’s just something about it, isn’t there? Whether it’s a thoughtful gift, an unexpected dinner, or just turning up somewhere when someone has no idea you’re coming. That moment when it clicks and their face lights up - pure joy! You really can’t beat it

Over the years, I’ve done this a few times for my mum. I’ve randomly turned up while she’s been on holiday or we’ve organised little family picnics. This year I wanted to do something a bit different. So, I decided to get all of her children together in London for a surprise dinner, along with some other activities during the day. Now, on paper that might not sound like a huge deal… “just a dinner,” right? But honestly, if you’ve ever tried to organise anything with multiple people, especially family, you’ll know it’s never that simple. Coordinating schedules, getting everyone in the same place at the same time, trains, timings… and the fact that we all live in completely different areas. It was a lot. Far more stressful than I had expected, but I knew it would be worth it.

The reason I love making a fuss of my mum, especially around Mother’s Day, is because she has always put her family first. Always. When you’ve got four children, who are all quite spread out in age, that alone is a full-time job. But she’s never just “got by,” she’s been the heart of everything.

She’s the rock of our family. The one who is always there, whether that’s a phone call when you need a chat, a long drive to come and see you, or just being that constant support in the background.

She listens to everything, she celebrates every win (big or small), and she somehow always knows exactly what to say when things aren’t going right. She’s our biggest cheerleader, without question.

I feel really lucky that I’m in a position where I can treat her, whether that’s gifts, days out, or little experiences. But I also know that’s not always possible for everyone. And the truth is, it doesn’t have to be anything big. It can be something as simple as a picnic in the park, a walk somewhere beautiful, a visit to a National Trust spot, or baking their favourite cake.

Sometimes it’s the smallest, most thoughtful gestures that mean the most.

Even if you’re someone who finds surprises stressful (which, let’s be honest, they can be), or you worry about getting everyone together without giving it away, just think about who you’re doing it for. Think about how much it will mean to them. The fact that you’ve taken the time, made the effort, and really thought about what would make them happy… that’s what people remember.

There really is no better feeling than seeing someone you love surrounded by the people who matter most to them, knowing that everyone has taken time out of their busy lives to be there & be present.

When we surprised my mum, my heart honestly felt like it could burst. Seeing her reaction as each of us arrived, it was everything I hoped it would be and more. And yes, it was “just a meal.” It’s not like we hadn’t seen each other in ages, we’re a close family, we speak all the time, and our family WhatsApp is constantly going off with updates from everyone.

But I think that’s what made it so special.

It wasn’t about the occasion or the setting, it was about the meaning behind it. Having all four of her children in one place, showing her just how much she means to us… that was the real gift. That was the thank you. That was the love.

And in that moment, you could just see how much it meant to her.

I feel so grateful to have such an incredible mum, kind, caring, funny… sometimes a bit chaotic (okay, most of the time chaotic), but completely irreplaceable. These little moments, these pockets of time we create together, they’re the things I’ll always hold onto.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not really about the surprises themselves, it’s about the memories they create

So what can we do to lift our spirits and our complexions at this time of year? We’re not quite ready to go full summer bronze goddess, but we do want a little glow. Something that makes us look fresher and more alive, without going full fake-tan mode.

Enter … Bronzer

So many people ask me about bronzers, and I have quite a few that I love and use throughout the year. Bronzer is, without a doubt, an absolute staple in my everyday makeup routine, all year round. For me, it’s completely non-negotiable. I always choose a foundation that’s as close to my natural skin tone as possible, and then I use bronzer to bring warmth and life back into my skin.

One thing we really need to get out of the habit of doing is buying a darker shade of foundation to try and create that warmth. It never quite looks right, and you’re often left with that tell-tale line under your jaw. Let’s be honest, maybe we could get away with that back at school, but by our 30’s and 40’s we really should know better!

Bronzer is the real key, and it’s all about finding the right one for you and your skin. And yes, even the fairest of skin tones can absolutely wear a bronzer. It’s just about choosing the right shade and formula.

I’ll be sharing some of my favourite bronzers for different skin types and tones, so hopefully there will be something for everyone.

Kicking things off - Tanning Drops:

Tanning drops give you ultimate control, you mix them with your moisturiser and can tailor them completely to your liking. I use tanning drops regularly to give my skin that little pick me up. One top tip, start off with the recommended amounts - i.e. what it says on the bottle, you can always add more after. Below are my favourites;

These are great for either before makeup application or after. You could also mix them in with your foundation to darken it if you’ve got a bit of a tan, but I love theses to just add an instant tan thats very natural and will wash off at the end of the night.

With most of these products I would say go lightly and build it up but also blend, blend, blend!

TV & Books:

So I’ve just discovered ‘Shrinking’ starring Jason Segel and Harrison Ford… and oh my goodness, it is BLOODY BRILLIANT.

At first I thought, “hmm this sounds a bit heavy”, a therapist whose wife dies while he’s dealing with his own grief and his patients’ problems? Could be depressing, right?

WRONG!

It is some of the wittiest, funniest, and most heart-warming writing I’ve seen in ages. Yes, it touches on grief and real life stuff, but it does it with humour and honesty in a way that feels comforting and a little lighter rather than sad.

Honestly, if you’re hungry for some proper good comedy with heart, put this straight on your watch list. You can thank me later 😉.

‘Part of Your World’ by Abby Jimenez

I absolutely loved this book, it gave me everything I wanted from a romance. It was heartfelt, emotional, properly romantic… and yes, it featured a very hot carpenter, which never hurts.

The story follows Alexis, a wealthy and successful surgeon, who accidentally meets Daniel Grant, a ridiculously charming carpenter who is ten years younger than her and lives in a small, close-knit town. Their worlds couldn’t be more different, but somehow they just can’t stay away from each other.

I found this such an easy, comforting read. The characters were so relatable and genuinely likeable, and the love story felt warm, funny, and emotional without being too heavy.

If you’re looking for a bit of romantic escapism, the kind of book you want to curl up with and get lost in, this is such a perfect choice. Heart, humour, and a dreamy small-town love story… what more could you want?

Clothes:

New Look Barrel Jeans

Now… I said I wasn’t buying new clothes because I already own enough and really need to restyle what’s hanging in my wardrobe (we all know that’s true). BUT…

I did treat myself to a barrel-leg pair of blue jeans from New Look, and I don’t have this shape in my wardrobe yet, so technically this was very sensible of me.

And let me tell you… I am LOVING this style right now. So much so that a woman actually stopped me in the supermarket to ask where my jeans were from.

Which obviously means they were 100% worth it.
I don’t make the rules.

H&M Sunglasses

I also saw my sister the other day and… well… we have a problem.
We cannot resist a pair of sunglasses. It’s an addiction at this point!

She walked in wearing these gorgeous ones from H&M, and both me and my friend immediately had to go and buy them too. No hesitation. No willpower. Just straight to the till.

Supportive? Yes.
Enabling? Also yes.

A few products I’ve been absolutely loving this month…

Revolution Skin Silk Stick Glow Tint
This is a gorgeous buttery foundation stick with really good coverage but still gives that natural, healthy glow we’re all chasing.

I’d say it’s similar to the Charlotte Tilbury Unreal Skin Sheer Glow Tint, BUT honestly, this one is creamier and has more coverage.

The CT one is just a little too glowy for me… and yes, that is possible. I end up looking like a glitter ball if I use it all over my face. Not always the vibe.

Concealer;

Talking of Charlotte Tilbury, I am loving their new Airbrush Flawless Blur Concealer.

It covers beautifully without looking heavy or cakey. A tiny bit goes a long way, and the finish is just really soft and flattering. Definitely one of those “oh hello skin” products.

Perfume:

Jo Malone Amber Labdanum Cologne from Jo Malone

This perfume is STUNNING for this time of year.
It’s musky, warm, and sensual with a little burst of fresh orange at the top. The heart note is labdanum, which is Ambery resin, which gives you incence feel, and the base is amber, so it’s woody and cosy and rich.

If you like Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka’s warm scents, you will LOVE this.

I literally haven’t stopped wearing it since I got it. And I always know when a perfume suits me because I can’t smell it on myself after a while… but everyone else can. I get so many compliments when I wear this one.

Which obviously means it’s staying in rotation forever.

Food – Sweet Treats:

Who doesn’t love a sweet treat?
(Unfortunately I probably love them a little too much.)

There are two things I simply cannot live without:
Mini eggs and custard.

I always say, if you ever want to buy me a present in life, just get me a custard and a mini egg and I’ll be happy. Obviously not together… although now I’ve said that, maybe it’s not such a bad idea?

Mini eggs have to be Cadbury. No negotiation.
I’m so thrilled they’re available outside of Easter now, because honestly, mini eggs are for life. Dare I say… they might be my all-time favourite chocolate. Yes. I said it.

I do try not to eat them all at once… unfortunately not everyone in my household shares this restraint.

The Best Bakery Discovery

Now speaking of custard… I have found the most incredible little bakery just off Portobello Road in Notting Hill.

It’s an authentic Portuguese bakery, and my idea of a perfect Sunday now goes like this:

If the weather is sunny but a little chilly, we hop on the motorbike, ride through the back roads of London, head to this busy little bakery, sit outside with a coffee and a pastel de nata… and honestly, they do the best pastel de nata I’ve ever had — including the ones I’ve had in Portugal.

We sit there eating our sweet treats, watching the world go by, and just enjoying the moment.

And truly… that is my kind of perfect Sunday.

I’ve found myself leaning more towards pieces that are easy to wear but still look like I made an effort. You know the vibe, relaxed but pulled together.

Enter: wide leg jeans and baggy tops. Who even am I? A year ago I would have run in the opposite direction, but now I’m fully joining the brigade and honestly… I’m loving it!

The trick for me is balance. I want to feel comfy, but I also want to show off the bits of my body that I actually like and feel proud of. At the same time, I don’t want to feel squeezed, restricted, or like I’m wearing something just because it’s “trendy.”

And can we talk about body shapes for a second? I find it so hard to find people online who look like me. I’ve got long legs, a tummy, huge boobs, and basically no bum at all. It’s not exactly the standard influencer template, is it? Sometimes scrolling for outfit inspiration feels like trying to shop for jeans in a kids’ section, frustrating and slightly dramatic.

So… I’ve turned to Pinterest. And honestly? Best decision ever. I’ve been pinning outfit ideas that feel realistic and then diving into my own wardrobe to recreate them with pieces I already own. There’s something so satisfying about putting together an outfit from things that have been hanging there for years and suddenly thinking, “Ohhh, okay… I see you now.”

I did tell myself I would mostly stick to what I already had, but let’s be honest, I have picked up a few new bits along the way. Nothing wild, just some staple pieces that I feel can be styled up or down and worn a million different ways. The kind of clothes that work for meetings, coffee dates, dinners, and everything in between.

Because here’s the thing… with my job, I’m constantly heading to meetings and events where technically you don’t have to dress up. But I’m still from the generation that believes if you’re going out for dinner, you make an effort. Clothes, hair, makeup, not because you have to impress anyone, but because it makes you feel better. More put together. More confident. More like you’ve got your life together (even if you absolutely do not).

I love nothing more than going out to dinner with friends or loved ones and actually enjoying the process of getting ready. Putting on a nice outfit, doing my hair, adding a bit of makeup — it feels like self-care in disguise. And that’s really what this little style shift is about for me: making an effort to feel good in my clothes again.

So this is where my style is sitting right now, comfortable, but intentional. Relaxed, but still chic. Familiar, but with a little twist.

And with that in mind, here are a few wardrobe staples I think everyone should have, pieces you can wear again and again and style in so many different ways…

The Classic Black Blazer:

Here are two of my favourite black blazers at the moment. Timeless, classic, chic and go with everything - you can’t go wrong. They can be styled up for an evening, or casual for daytime.

This second blazer has a cinched waist and padded shoulders - Incredible if you ask me.

The Always Needed White T-shirts:

This beautiful Cos white t-shirt is incredible quality, fits like a dream, washes brilliantly and is just the right amount of oversized. I love them!

If you don’t fancy an oversized style, this alternative is also beautiful.

The: Denim shirt

I haven’t stopped wearing this denim shirt since buying it. It’s a great layering piece over a t-shirt or wonderful on its own. A real staple!

The Ultimate Accessory: Belts

This was one of my christmas presents and I love it! I particularly love that it is tan rather than black. It adds another colour and I feel it is really chic.

I love this New Look black belt, its giving western but not too much. I love the silver hardwear to change things up from gold. And can be paired with silver jewellery.

The Staple Faux Leather Skirt:

I wear this River Island Faux Leather Skirt so much. It can be styled so many ways which makes it a perfect staple piece in my wardrobe.

THE Tights:

Now, if you know me or follow me, you know I have a love/hate relationship with tights. I ALWAYS manage to ladder them. These magic tights from M&S are incredible, so comfortable and thick without being thick, does that make sense?

The Cosy Jumpers:

This might be a mens jumper, but I’ve never let that stop me. It’s cashmere, it’s cosy, it’s warm therefore, it is perfect.

Personally, I feel you can’t go wrong with a Uniqlo cashmere jumper. They’re reasonably priced for cashmere, so incredibly soft and warm. They can be styled in so many ways, dressed up with a crisp white shirt, casual with an oversized t-shirt poking through. The possibilities are endless!

The Barrel Leg Trousers:

I cannot get enough of these cotton trousers and feel they’re a great alternative to jeans. I’ve been wearing them so much recently and for all occasions, dinners and lunches. I was worried about the barrel leg at first, but I feel when you lean into it and go for it they look great and are a real staple.

But if I was to get jeans, these ones from New Look is what I’d go for! They’re not too barrelled which I feel is perfect.

The Can’t Go Wrong, Chunky earrings:

As I’ve said above, you cannot go wrong with a good chunky earring. They finish off an outfit, pull everything together and are the last but not least final piece. Below are a selection of ones I’ve been loving recently.

These earrings from Carrie Elizabeth in collaboration with Louise Thompson are just heavenly. So beautiful and elegant, I love them.

Hello lovely people!

These last few weeks have been wildly busy with gorgeous events, exciting launches and a very dreamy trip to Estelle Manor. Honestly… sometimes I still have to pinch myself. I feel so lucky to get to visit amazing places and meet such wonderful people. The last couple of weeks have been full-on, but in the best possible way.

Beauty Concierge in Covent Garden

I kicked things off with a visit to the Beauty Concierge in Covent Garden, where Dcypher were hosting several brilliant brands all under one roof.

Now, if you haven’t heard of Dcypher, they’re a brand that uses AI to colour-match your skin tone perfectly and recommend exactly what type of foundation will suit you best. I haven’t tried it just yet, but I’ll be going back soon, so watch this space for my review!

If you get the chance to visit, you absolutely must. There were so many fabulous independent brands there, including; Reeson Beauty by my lovely mate Really Ree. Rumm tubing mascara (which I’ve tried and LOVED) Stunning jewellery from Raven James (yes, I did buy myself a pair of hoops) One of my fave liner brands Hildun.

And many more. It was honestly so lovely seeing so many brilliant indie brands all together in one beautiful space.

Inspired Fragrance Dream

The following day I was invited to a Floral Street event, and wow… it was incredible.

They’ve collaborated with the new series of Bridgerton on a fragrance called Enchanted Masquerade, and it is absolutely gorgeous. The whole event transported us straight into the Regency era.

There was a table laid out with the most exquisite fruits and flowers — all ingredients found in the fragrance itself. I was lucky enough to be guided through a little “scent school,” learning about each note: Juicy pear, Gardenia, Rose And finally skin musk, which just melts into your skin and makes the fragrance feel totally you

I find perfume so fascinating — especially how it can instantly take you back to memories and moments. It’s kind of magical, really.

Maybelline Event at Estelle Manor (aka heaven)

The week finished with a trip to Estelle Manor with Maybelline and… OH WOW. What a place.

My phone was blowing up with messages saying “Kim Kardashian and Lewis Hamilton were there a few days ago!” so you can imagine how lush it was.

I was taken to my room in the walled garden and honestly, I gasped. It was so cosy and homely, with a little sitting room and a wood-burning fire (which I absolutely lit, obviously). Behind a velvet curtain was a huge four-poster bed with some Maybelline goodies waiting for me. Dreamy.

My First Ever Padel Match

Then it was time for my first-ever game of Padel. We had a lovely instructor called Miguel who showed us the rules and techniques. Now… I am definitely not a natural sportswoman, but I actually really enjoyed it.

It was bitterly cold and raining (of course), but we stuck it out and even managed a pretty good rally. I was very proud of myself, not going to lie.

Afterwards, we were handed a glass of wine in a warm room (which helps everything) and then enjoyed a masterclass with the gorgeous Georgia Rose, who talked us through the new Lash Sinsational Bold mascara and the new Lifter concealers. I will give you guys a full review once I have tried these.

Dinner of Dreams

We then headed back to our rooms to get glammed up for dinner… and honestly, when I walked into the dining room, I was half expecting a proposal. It was lit entirely by candles, with a harp playing in the corner. I mean… it doesn’t get better than that.

The food was incredible and it was so lovely chatting with everyone about our shared love of Maybelline and makeup.

People always ask, “Do MUAs just sit around talking about makeup?”
And the answer is… yes. Pretty much
We talk about what we’re loving, what we’re using, and what’s exciting us at the moment. It’s the best.

A Slow Morning & Reality Check

The next morning we were able to just chill and slowly make our way home. I explored more of Estelle Manor and finally got into the gigantic bath I’d been eyeing up since I arrived.

I don’t know about you, but when I’m in a hotel for just one night, I try to use every single facility possible. Bath? Yes. Coffee? Yes. Wandering the grounds pretending I live there? Absolutely.

After grabbing a coffee from their Potting Shed, it was time to head back to reality.

And just like that… what a week.
Busy, beautiful, inspiring, and full of moments I won’t forget anytime soon.

The more sweaty I got, and the more sun cream I used, the worse it became. Fast forward a bit and turns out I’m dealing with perioral dermatitis again, something I’ve actually had on and off for years.

Normally, it disappears pretty quickly… but for some reason, this time it has decided to properly settle in and make itself at home. Rude!

Apparently, this time of year is peak season for it. I’ve been told it’s often triggered by sudden changes in temperature and for me, going from extremely hot weather straight into freezing cold was the perfect storm.

You’re Definitely Not Alone

It’s funny how when something happens to you, it feels like you’re the only person in the world dealing with it… and then suddenly you realise so many people are struggling with the same thing right now.

That’s why I wanted to share what I’ve been trying and using, in case it helps even one of you feel less alone (or less red and itchy).

Now, important disclaimer:
I am not a skincare expert, I’m a makeup artist. My skincare knowledge is pretty good, but I’m absolutely not a medical professional. Also, what works for one person doesn’t always work for another. Skin is so individual, which makes this whole process very much trial and error.

What A Dermatologist Told Me

I was lucky enough to work with a dermatologist the other day and she recommended something really interesting: Azelaic Acid to help with inflammation.

Naturally, as soon as I got home, I Googled it. And turns out, Azelaic Acid is actually found in quite a few skincare products that you can buy both online and in-store.

One brand I’ve heard loads about is a Korean skincare brand (Anua) that has a whole Azelaic Acid range — so I’m definitely going to investigate and try that next.

She also recommended a specific cream that we found online. I managed to order it from a French pharmacy and it arrived in about four days. I’ve only been using it for a couple of days, but the redness has already gone down a lot.

It does make my skin a little dry, but honestly, I was expecting that and dryness feels like a small price to pay for less inflammation.

The Emotional Side (Let’s Be Real)

I guess the reason I’m sharing this is because so many people are kind enough to comment on my skin online, and I’m really grateful for that. On the whole, my skin is good, I’m very lucky.

But when something like this flares up, it makes me feel:

• self-conscious

• uncomfortable

• itchy and stingy

• and honestly… just a bit fed up

It’s not just about how it looks, it actually hurts.

How I Cover It (Without Making It Worse)

I do feel incredibly lucky that I have the skills of a makeup artist and can cover the redness when I need to. I’ll also share the exact products I love for that.

Foundation and concealer for Sensitive Skin but helps cover for long lasting effects:

Setting Powder:

The key thing I’ve learned is: don’t overload your entire face with makeup.

Obviously, it would be ideal not to wear makeup on that area at all… but let’s be honest, I am definitely not that person! Especially when I’ve got red patches all over my face.

So what I do instead:

• I concentrate product only where I need it (around my nose)

• I’ll use concealer, foundation, and powder there

• But the rest of my face stays super light

There’s no point making your whole face uncomfortable when only one area needs help.

And as soon as I get home? Makeup comes straight off. Instantly.
It’s such a relief for my skin.

Gentle Makeup Remover & Cleansers

The Body Shop Camomile cleansing balm, is a FIRM top 5 cleansing balm for me. There is not much I can say about it, other than it does everything you need it to, it doesn’t sting and I love it!

The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm is one of my favourites for removing makeup. It is incredibly gentle, doesn’t irritate the skin or eyes and melts away without leaving any residue. Perfect for when your skin is a little more delicate and needs something a bit more gentle.

Now, the Skin Rocks cleansers are wonderful. This Gel Cleanser is beautiful. I recently spoke with Caroline Hirons, founder of Skin Rocks, who explained that she has developed this cleanser to not need a face cloth for removal. So, because of this it can be removed with just water, meaning the skin doesn’t get irritated whilst still removing makeup.

Final Thoughts

If you’re dealing with perioral dermatitis (or any skin flare-up), please know:

• You’re not alone

• It’s incredibly common right now

• It’s frustrating but manageable

• And it does get better

I thought it was about time I shared a little roundup of the things I’ve been really loving over the last few months. From beauty bits, I’m constantly reaching for, to books and pasta (always pasta)… here’s what’s been bringing me joy lately.

A glow base I keep reaching for:

The Revolution Skin Silk Glow Tint has quietly become one of those products I don’t really think about anymore — and that’s the best kind. It gives such a soft, natural glow that makes skin look healthy and fresh without ever looking shiny or heavy. It evens things out just enough while still letting your skin look like skin. Perfect for everyday wear, especially on those “I want to look polished but effortless” days.

A body oil I’ve loved from first to last drop:

Santal Bloom Body Oil is officially finished in my bathroom, which says everything! The scent is beautiful — warm, creamy and comforting, but light enough to wear every day. What I really love is how it applies: it glides on effortlessly, absorbs so well and leaves skin feeling nourished rather than sticky or greasy. There’s also something really special about knowing the story behind the founder and the care that’s gone into creating the product — it makes the whole experience feel intentional and considered, not just another body oil on the shelf.

Lip balms that truly impressed me:

The new Vieve Lip Bounce Balms (three shades) deserve a proper mention! I used them at work recently across a range of different skin types and tones, and without fail everyone commented on how much they loved them. They’re hydrating, comfortable and give that perfect glossy-but-not-sticky finish. My personal favourite shade is Grind — it’s one of those shades that just works with everything and instantly makes you look more put together. New shades are releasing very soon - keep your eyes peeled!

A brush I’m finally ready to judge:

The Morphe Buttery Blends M109 Spatula Foundation Brush is one I’ve seen everywhere, but somehow never tried. I’m officially putting it to the test. I’m really curious to see how it applies foundation, how seamless the finish is and whether it lives up to all the hype. First impressions are promising — I’ll report back once I’ve fully put it through its paces.

The Denim shirt we all need:

I realised recently that my wardrobe was seriously lacking in the denim shirt department, so when I spotted this one in Primark the other day, it was an easy yes.

It’s the perfect kind of denim shirt — thick, structured and really good quality, which instantly makes it feel more elevated. I’ve been wearing it thrown over a simple T-shirt or a thin jumper for those effortless, everyday outfits. What I love most is that it’s also substantial enough to wear on its own. Buttoned up, it almost feels like a lightweight jacket, which makes it incredibly versatile.

It’s quickly become one of those pieces I reach for without thinking — easy, practical and endlessly wearable. Definitely one of those simple finds that ends up being a wardrobe staple.

Book club moment:

I’ve finally finished Golden Summer by Carley Fortune — the book I mentioned last week — and I can safely say it did not disappoint! It was such an easy, comforting read with just the right amount of romance and escapism. Honestly, she might be becoming my new go-to author when I’m craving a rom-com book that I can completely lose myself in.

What I’ve Watched:

I was so excited to hear there was a new Agatha Christie series dropping on Netflix this month. We watched it the day it came out and I have to say, it took me while to get into it. It’s the stories The Seven Dials which I don’t remember, which was good otherwise I would have known who had done it. But this 3 part series really didn’t do it for me. Yes, I like the setting and some of the characters were good, but I just found it quite hard to get into. I think I nodded off in the second episode. It definitely picked up in the last one and I did enjoy the twists towards the end, but it doesn’t hold any kind of flame to the old David Suchet Poirot I’m afraid.

Pasta (always pasta)

My Padella cookbook continues to deliver. I’ve cooked from it twice now, and both times I’ve made the same recipe because it’s just that good!

Garlic, oregano and chilli — simple, bold flavours done perfectly. It’s the kind of dish that feels impressive but comforting at the same time. Just a heads up: make sure you’re sharing it with friends, because the garlic situation is serious.

I made it for my stepdad’s birthday meal and went all out with a full Italian-themed evening — four courses, lots of food, lots of laughs, and such a fun way to celebrate.

Reading has never come easily to me. Ever since I was a child, I’ve struggled to stay focused. My mind wanders, it takes me a while to get into the flow of a book and before I know it I’m five pages in with no idea what I’ve just read.

But something shifts when I’m away. I’m able to quiet my brain, slow down, and really concentrate. I get fully invested in the story, and reading becomes something I enjoy rather than something I have to work at.

My go-to genre will always be thrillers — I love a good “whodunnit,” the unexpected twists, and the moments that keep you guessing. I’m also partial to a slightly spicy romance, but only if it’s engaging, relatable, and full of strong characters. If it’s not pulling me in, I’m out.

So, here are the books I read while I was away — and my honest opinion on whether they’re worth your time or not.

Richard Osman “The Impossible Fortune.”

I love these books, the idea of four unlikely old age pensioners coming together to solve crimes just makes happy. I really enjoy all of them, they’re full of heart and fantastic characters that you can’t help but feel you know personally. You don’t have to read these books in order but I strongly suggest you do. These are characters you want to get to know, and you too will fall in love with them like I have.

This one is the 5th of the series and I really enjoyed it. In this one you are back with the gang, it all kicks off at a wedding, when a guest confides in Elizebeth that he thinks someone is trying to kill him. A great start to the murder clubs next investigations. You follow a villain who wants access to an uncrackable code and will stop at nothing to get it. The gang are then plunged back into an explosive investigation to see if they can solve the puzzle before someone else gets hurt.

If you can’t tell from my enthusiasm for this book, I highly recommend it!

Sophia Money-Coutts “The Plus One.”

When your feeling like a fun, uplifting Rom-com, Sophie Money Coutts is great. Her books are simple, funny and sometimes a little sexy escape from reality. One I loved of her’s was “Right Place” and I would highly recommend getting this on your light hearted romance reading list.

The story revolves around Polly, a journalist who is a bit all over the place both romantically and personally. With her best mate about to get married, she’s determined to land the writing job of her dreams - and find a date for the wedding. Enter Jasper, Marquess of Milton: a rich ladies’ man who charms his way into Polly’s chaotic life.

This one, sadly, didn’t really land for me. If I’m honest I’ve really had to rack my brain to remember what it was about. I felt it was a little far fetched and I didn’t love any of the characters that much. I felt we could have dived a bit deeper into them so the reader felt more connected. That said, I didn’t think it was a complete waste of time, I just didn’t love it as much as some of her others.

Holly Jackson “ Not Quite Dead yet.”

This is my first time reading a Holly Jackson book and it did not disappoint! Since reading this book, I have found “A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder” Netflix series - an adaptation of her novel and it’s really good. I’ll report back with more details once I’m finished!

The story follows Jet, a young women with an attitude problem, who gets attacked in her home. Jet only to has 7 days to live and to solved her own murder. Sounds good right?!

This book had everything you could want, it starts with a bang and keeps you hooked right until the last page. I would definitely give it a read if you’re like me and love a gripping thriller!

Kia Abdullah “ Next Of Kin.”

Another first time author for me! This book promised twist after twist which is why I picked it up.

Now, I’m not saying it didn’t have some very interesting turn of events - they just don’t happen straight away, so you have to stick with it. I should also mention this book deals with the death of a child, so it might be worth reading up on it first, especially if you find this triggering.

The story is about two sisters and their complex relationship. One day Leila is asked to do a last minute favour - a decision that changes their lives forever. What follow is a heated courtroom battle that threatens to tear their family apart.

I felt very much like a bystander throughout this book. Much of the story is set in a courtroom, so at times I almost felt like a member of the jury - which I actually really liked. It held my attention right through to the last page. At times, I felt there was a slight lack of empathy which felt at odds with the subject matter. Still, it’s definitely worth a read, and I’d love to know what you thought if you’ve read it, or read it!

Andrea Mara “It Should Have Been You.”

I love Andrea Mara - I haven’t read a book of hers I didn’t enjoy. She always has relatable characters and storylines that grip you from the get go! If you haven’t watched the series “All Her Fault” you really should; it’s absolutely brilliant and does a great job of adapting the book into a nail-biting drama.

In this book, we follow Susan, an exhausted new mum who accidentally texts the wrong group - I mean we have all been there, right? Only this time, it leads to someone with the same address as Susan turning up dead.. and it spirals from there!

This is another corker from the Irish author, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed! Go and read it!

Carley Fortune “One Golden Summer.”

I’m still reading this one, and to be honest, I don’t want it to end! It’s the perfect summer read … though it works for a cold January too. It’s the ultimate grown-up summer romance, which I absolutely love.

Alice is photographer who’s lost her artistic flare, so she decides to go back to where it all began one summer when she was seventeen. While her grandmother recovers from an operation, Alice thinks the old summer house where they grew up would be a perfect place to rest - and maybe even reignite her love for photography.

Then enters Charlie: the gorgeous neighbour who’s there to lend a hand… and several other things to help. OMG the sexual chemistry between these two is perfection… I just hope ends well…. To be continued! So far, I highly recommend!
