My grandma’s sewing room is a quilter’s dream land. Piles and stacks and piles and stacks of fabric as far as the eye can see. Bolts, squares, precuts, jelly rolls. It’s a wonderful place. And probably where my love of fabric originated.

I love fabric.

Ditsy, bold, floral, striped. The possibilities are endless.

Or…well…they were before Joann left us…rest in peace.

And now we have to scavenge the internet for the perfect shade of navy gingham. UGH. Honestly, let’s take a moment of silence.

Lucky you, I have spent some time searching & shopping. And I’ve complied a list of my go-to’s for fabric shopping. Whether you’re looking for a needlepoint project, dreaming up a quilt, or hoping to add a homemade piece to your closet, I got you!

Welcome to my Little Fabric Library

1. Your local fabric store

   1. Just a google search away! Search fabric store/quilt store/upholstery shop and you might be in luck! Going to a local store is my favorite because you get to see & feel the fabric in person, making sure it’s the right one for you. Bonus points for shopping local!

2. Etsy

   1. There are many small fabric stores that sell on Etsy

   2. Some of my faves:

   1. Great for really specific fabric. Although you do have to get creative with your search terms (i.e. I was looking for fabric for an In-N-Out ornament and searched “red palm trees on white fabric”).

   2. Their “swatch” size is perfect for needlepoint ornaments.

   1. The thrift store!! Look for men’s button ups, sheets, or anything that you can cut apart.

   2. Duckadilly - specifically for Liberty prints

   3. Michaels/Hobby Lobby - no Joann, but at least they’re trying.

Welcome to my Substack! This will be home to needlepoint things and Finishing updates. It will also be used to notify folks when my Finishing form is open. But before we get into all of that, let’s do some introductions & updates!

Nice to meet you!

I’m Grace! I discovered needlepointing in 2024 after a lifetime of picking up and putting down various fiber crafts. All the women on my mom’s side of our family are talented quilters (my Aunt even owns a quilt shop!). And I was lucky enough to be taught many skills from their talented hands! When I heard about needlepoint, I immediately knew it was up my alley. I’ve always said, “I’m super creative, but I CANNOT draw to save my life”. And needlepointing has been SUCH a fun outlet to express creativity and take something as it is, and make it my own.

That being said, when I discovered the cost behind needlepoint, I knew I would need to learn my own Finishing. With my sewing skills and the few Tiktok tutorials I could find, I was on my way. What started as a bit frustrating, soon became one of my favorite parts of the process. It really brings stitches to life. I love the feeling of getting to say, “I made it” and knowing I really did every step of the process.

I finished over 50 of my own projects before I started being asked by others to finish theirs too. I had just finished reading “Be Ready When the Luck Happens” - Ina Garten’s memoir, and felt inspired to say yes the next time someone asked. And that is how I happened into Finishing!

I have a 9-5, so I do all my Finishing in my free time. I open my finishing form intermittently as I have availability. But I do love spending my evenings and weekends Finishing what so many talented stitchers have started. Genuinely every time I am asked to Finish a project, I feel so honored to be trusted! As a stitcher first, I know how much that means.

Finishing is a slow and intricate art. And I strive to be honest and intentional in the process. Being open about prices, timelines, and even things like replying in a timely manner is important to me. I am always open to emails checking in on your projects and I really want you to LOVE your finished pieces, so I really value feedback as well.

Finishing Form Opening

We moved to Georgia in June (yay!), and while I am adjusting and figuring out life here, I want to take on a reasonable amount of projects. Not to mention my sewing machine has been making weird noises after the move, need to sort that out ASAP! Hoping to open for more soft finishing (pillows, ruffle signs, etc) in the fall. That being said…

I am opening my form for a small batch of ornaments this week!

Since you are on my email list, you get first dibs!

Housekeeping Items:

• I will send you an email THIS Friday at Noon Eastern Time.

  • I will not be able to take on all of the projects from everyone who has been asked to be notified (it’s a one-woman show around here) so I do recommend you act quickly!

• Please only fill out the form if you have projects that are completed and ready to be finished.

• Max of 4 ornaments per submission.

• Please stitch 2-3 extra rows of stitches around your project. And if they are irregular shapes, ensure there are no sharp corners.

• I finish things in the order that I receive them.

• Turnaround time is approx. 2-3 months
