I had no real plan, just a whole lot of ambition and faith that I would find a way to make money doing what I loved. I also had $0 to my name and no family to fall back on if things went south. All I knew was that I wasn’t going to last another day taking orders from someone who didn’t even know my middle name.

The last 6 years have been the most transformative time of my life. I truly believe I followed a gut instinct (even if it seemed foolish from an outsiders perspective) and it led me to where I am today: more intelligent, wise, confident, independent, and faithful that things are always working out the way they are meant to - something 6-years-ago-me had a really difficult time believing.

This journey of entrepreneurship changed me for the better and guided me to grow into a version of myself I didn’t even know was possible (I’m tearing up as I say that lol). I gained skills, knowledge, friendships, experience, and most importantly … a sense of who I am at the core. Before this journey, I was a shell of a human. I had no voice, no opinions of my own, no idea who I was or what I wanted my life to look like if no one was there to tell me what it should look like. And taking that massive risk to pursue something outside the “norm” was the first thing I had ever done for no one other than myself. I don’t regret it for a single second.

But these last 10 months, a voice has been trying to get my attention, and I’ve been ignoring it. Until 4 weeks ago.

But first, let’s back track here for a second:

10 years ago when I dropped out of my college program for audio engineering, and came to the conclusion that my life-long dream of music just wasn’t for me anymore … I spent a really long time trying to figure out what I was interested in. What my “purpose” was and how I was meant to express my soul and my creativity (I swear I came out of the womb knowing a traditional 9-5 was not the route I was ever going to take).

And amongst all that trial and error, I found myself being most excited about the anonymous blog I started. Where I would write about my experiences with a narcissistic mother. A drug-addicted father who I felt abandoned by. The loneliness I felt, the lessons I was learning in real time, the thoughts that wouldn’t leave my mind. At the time, it felt like that blog was for no-one but me.

A few years later I began learning about the brain and the power it holds over your entire life experience. And how you can change the way it’s wired to change the way you experience life. To say I fell in love is an understatement. I knew I needed to find a way to pursue this passion and my talent of being able to take the complexity of the brain and turn it into tangible information, to help people. So I entered the world of the online space, and quickly grew a following of over 100k people in under 3 months. But, like any other entrepreneur, I needed to find a way to monetize so that I could make a living. So what did I do? I turned to coaching, because it’s what everyone else was doing. I believed it was the only way for me to help people and still be able to make a living without having to work a shitty job that robbed me of the freedom I was craving.

I thought it was a win-win. I got to make an impact and make a living. The work felt meaningful and it paid my bills.

But as I’ve grown and the more in-tune I’ve become with my soul, the voice inside me kept getting louder and louder: “This isn’t how you’re supposed to use your voice.”

I’ve openly shared with you guys before (recently) that I wasn’t feeling aligned with all the “how to’s” or heavy science-backed content anymore. And I have spent the last almost year, feeling so deeply unaligned and confused on how to move forward and what step to take next. I began to dread creating offers, marketing offers, having a week of scheduled calls, and (quite literally) everything to do with coaching. Other than my clients themselves - I LOVE my clients and feel so blessed to have such close friendships with all of them and to have been the one to guide them into major life shifts.

But I felt trapped, because the mere thought of going out and getting another 9-5 where I would take orders from someone all day and lose any ounce of the freedom (both mental and physical) I created in the last 6 years … gave me nightmares.

So I turned to the Divine. I asked God, the Universe, and my Angels (whoever would listen lmao), to give me some answers. And a few weeks later, an undeniable opportunity landed in my lap. A leadership role helping my best friends family build an incredible business. Without a single doubt, I took it.

And what happened after that? All the answers came to me. In fact, they flooded so quickly and so clearly, I spent 3 whole days crying. Everything made me cry. But here’s what God told me….

I had spent the last 6 years building a business off survival. The constant unconscious need to ensure I was making enough money to pay my bills and still have more to build a future for myself, was over-powering my judgement of what’s actually aligned and what’s not. Because the second I was presented with an opportunity where I wouldn’t have to worry about those things, every single desire to do what I’m doing right now, flew out the window at a 200km/hour speed. I’m talking ZERO ounce of desire.

Building a business off a foundation of survival, forced me to unconsciously build a business that wasn’t truly aligned. Because let me tell you something … feeling a massive sense of relief to never have to do something ever again, is probably not a sign that you’re walking a path you’re meant to be on (LOL).

So as I’ve settled into this job for the last 6 weeks, I’ve taken some time to reflect on what this means for my business and what direction I’m taking next - now that it won’t be built off a foundation of survival.

And the answer? I’m quitting my coaching business, and I’m going back to that version of me 10 years ago who felt a huge sense of purpose writing about the intense, crazy, wild and undeniable experiences I have gone through in life. What it’s like to lose and rebuild your identity after being raised by a narcissist. What it’s like to have no-contact with a parent. Moving through grief. Feeling misunderstood. The experience of just simply being human.

Because I’ve now come to realize something: that blog I started 10 years ago wasn’t just for me - it has the ability to make others feel more seen and heard in their lives too. And that is the definition of making an impact.

Do I think I took the wrong path all these years? Hell no. The path I took may have not been my forever path, but it taught me the skills and knowledge I needed to learn to excel at the path that really is aligned with me. It held the largest purpose in all of this. The value I am now able to bring to my writing after acquiring all this knowledge on the brain … will allow me to help those who resonate with my story to actually transform their own lives too. The experience and knowledge I have running and building a business … I know what to do and what not to do this time. The confidence and belief I have in myself now … is never going to allow me to follow the crowd or do something just because it’s what everyone is doing, ever again.

I needed these last 6 years of experience, to help me actually build something more aligned. Everything always holds a purpose, never doubt your path.

So anyways … this is a new chapter for me. And to say I’m excited is an understatement. If you’ve been here from the beginning, thank you. And I hope you’ll stick around on this new journey of mine!

I hope to bring you weekly (or biweekly) posts on reclaiming power, navigating the highs and lows of being human, and how I’m moving through trauma and rebuilding myself after 3 decades of being in survival. Will I still talk about the power of the brain? Absolutely - but not in a “tips and tricks, how to” kind of way. That shit is so boring to me now - I’m craving depth.

Alongside personal experience, I will also continue sharing the reclamation of personal authority when it comes to the systems we live amongst. This new direction has everything to do with taking your power back - whether that’s from the cages of your mind, the people close to you who made you feel small, or the societal norms and systems that have made you feel powerless.

I hope to inspire you, make you feel seen, and show you that vulnerability is the catalyst to building autonomy over your life.

XO,

JSZLO.

Subscribe now
