As discussed in my earlier post on the Eclipses, any eclipse (Solar or Lunar) asks us to observe. We might observe the actual celestial phenomenon of light being temporarily blocked (or obscured/refracted in some way), or we might observe what is occurring within ourselves (and the collective) and what is being blocked, obstructed/ refracted in some way.

We can glean information from seeing things in (literally) a new light, from a new vantage point or perspective during eclipses. We can witness celestial “reflection” and mirror that in ourselves.

Astrology works like fate and free will intersecting (like a plaid); our autonomy and agency meet up with forces beyond our immediate control… like the gravitational force, the electromagnetic force, the strong & weak nuclear forces, as well as geopolitical and cultural forces. The space-time fabric of our reality is stitched together during eclipses as these intersecting threads weave our personal lives to the cosmic and collective ones.

Eclipses (like retrogrades) are periods where the following mantra is essential: don’t push, don’t avoid, maintain, witness, and observe.

Imagine you are in a partner dance; during most of the dance, you lead, but during an eclipse, your partner shifts position and leads the dance. If we insisted on continuing to lead, force our agenda, push our dance partner around, or block their movement, we would likely falter, trip up (ourselves), annoy, and prevent an opportunity for a new dance experience from coming through. Likewise, if we stop dancing, refuse to dance, or avoid the dance floor, we are also likely to trip up and miss out on new insights, perspectives, and opportunities.

During an eclipse, we don’t have to run away and hide, but we ought not demand to lead the dance. We briefly switch up leading/ following positions; we shift our perspective; we don’t push or avoid; we maintain; we witness and observe. We mirror the Moon and Earth, switching dance “positions” (relative to the sun), and observe information provided by briefly changing up our regular perspectives.

Here’s another metaphor to consider: the intersection of fate and free will as a lifelong game of awareness-chess. In this version of the game, “winning” isn’t the goal so much as understanding things. You “win” not by “defeating” an opponent but by understanding their perspective (seeing the board of existence) from their POV. During non-eclipse time, you (and your free will) are moving the chess pieces around, but during the eclipse season, Fate is moving them around. Historically, Eclipses are linked to the births and deaths of world leaders and other famous figures. In recent few days, we have collectively witnessed the curtain call of three artists. The globally beloved singer-songwriter, cross-culturally respected philanthropist, and icon of integrity/philanthropist, known as Dolly Parton; the legendary and singularly talented actor Tim Curry; and the courageous young actor Hayden Panettiere, who spoke out on abuse and surviving depression. We mourn their passing collectively and personally (Dolly Parton has been a beloved role model my entire life, and Tim Curry’s performance in Clue helped me decide to pursue acting professionally). We reflect on how their unique perspectives and existences helped shape our shared human experience and personal inspiration.

The Solar Eclipse on August 12th was in Leo (the sign associated with performance, royalty, or being of royal-like stature, joy, playfulness, and full commitment to playing your “role” in your lifetime) and was opposite the sign of Aquarius (the sign associated with the collective, the audience, activism, large communities, and revolution).

The Eclipse on Thursday or Friday (depending on where you are on the planet) is in the Sign of Pisces (associated with music, the fine arts, artistry, magic, spirituality, and connection to “the other side”); it will be opposite the sign of Virgo (being of the earth, healing, health, service to others, raising the bar, sheer excellence, and creating structure.) Pisces is the forest; Virgo is the Tree. Virgo is the tiny brush strokes of a Monet painting, seen up close; Pisces is the Monet painting as a whole, seen from the back of the room.

When the Solar Leo Eclipse “led the dance”, it allowed us to see/reflect on identities and ways we identify that are now outdated, too constricting, served their purpose, but no longer fit. It asked us to listen to the “audience of ourselves” (inner and external) and ask that audience how they would identify “us.” It asked us to consider how incorporating that perspective might actually help us gain a more accurate, liberating, and empowering sense of identity rather than rely on old ego-centric notions.

This Lunar Eclipse in Pisces asks us to see/reflect on, feel, and sense the new vision; to intuitively see and reflect, using our emotional intelligence, psychological understanding, and empathetic sensitivity. By doing this, we can briefly glimpse a whole new vision, and the vision as a whole, before we decide on the next practical steps to take to create it. This eclipse asks us to sit with the image of the creation completed before we start to assemble it.

Think of going to IKEA and looking at the picture of the bookshelf as a whole before you take out all the wooden planks, small bags, and screw. (As opposed to ignoring looking at the image of what you are trying to build and just assembling by guessing what the individual pieces are for.) The eclipse on Thursday/Friday invites us to observe, to consider, to register what is wanting to be glimpsed as a whole, before being seen through its details.

Think of it like this: have you ever gone to the gym, lifted one weight, and wondered why your muscle didn’t immediately look different? Well, at the gym, first of all, the change is occurring beneath the surface of the skin, so it may not be obvious; secondly, that first lifting of weight is just the opening (or the start) of a new pattern. If this new pattern means you become a regular at the gym and end up lifting that weight numerous times, it will cause the muscle to take on a new shape. So just notice what (thematically) is coming in through the door today (and what is going out) today.

Eclipses highlight astrological partnerships (or axis) between planets/luminaries (the Sun and Moon) and signs (polarity partners) like Leo & Aquarius. They also work in sets of 6-month (half-year) partnerships. This particular set started back on February 17th, 2026, and is now flipping to its 6-month reverse perspective (August 12th, 2026); we’ll have another on February 6, 2027, again on August 2, 2027, then August 17, 2027, and finally on January 26, 2028.

Solar Eclipses: what is on the edges of the spotlight informs the brightest part of the light itself. By seeing the surrounding light (while the silhouette of the Moon briefly blocks the bright center light of the Sun), we consider/reconsider what is obvious but hadn’t been registered. We consciously consider/reconsider identity and what is on the surface in front of us, and we face where and whether an energetic/thematic recharge is needed. We consider how we as individuals impact and are impacted by these themes.

When a Solar Eclipse is in Leo, we are doubly considering our identity, our conscious awareness, our authenticity, where or how we might have been “performing” an identity or fully embodying it. If a shift is needed, it will become apparent. The real us reminds us that she/he/they need to shine.

Because the axis is shared with Aquarius, it will also ask us to consider our audience - is it aligned with our authentic self? Is it our authentic audience? And what of our community: is it our authentic community? Are we our authentic selves within it? In a Solar Eclipse, the Moon comes “in between” the Earth and the Sun. Ego, Identity, and self-awareness check. The Moon asks us, “girl, you seeing things (yourself, situation, circumstance) clearly?” And if we’re not, consider the surrounding information (or light), then look back at the obvious (center light) of the Sun (our consciousness), and see how that might help your perspective or illuminate our perception.

With Lunar Eclipses, themes and energies behind the surface are exposed; we see the Sun’s light rays bend around the Earth and shine upon the surface of the Moon. The Sun asks us to reflect (just as it reflects light, bending around the Moon) on the thought patterns, emotions occurring, and psychological perspective, and how they influence our perceptions. It asks us to consider what is/has been going on beneath the surface, within ourselves, within our subconscious, or at the edges of our awareness. It asks us: “girl, what’s going on inside (your mind, body, emotions, psychology, default assumptions) that is coloring your understanding, or obscuring your perception.

During a Lunar Eclipse, the Earth’s position between the Sun and Moon forces the Sun’s light rays to bend; the red light is the least blocked. This makes the red light reflection the most visible, thereby coloring the moon with a reddish glow. So during a Lunar Eclipse, we are asked to figure out what in ourselves is blocking, obscuring, or “coloring” our reflection and perspectives in such a particular way. The Sun asks us - “girl, what is going on inside”? It asks us to figure out what the “Earth” is blocking, or influencing, or shaping our perspective. And once we understand what is informing our reflection, then to consider whether that perspective influence is accurate or “colring it” in a particular way.

As light bends around the Earth and scatters mostly red light onto the moon, we perceive the moon to look “reddish”. As light (or awareness) scatters around something within us, how does that impact our perception?

Think of it like this: when you learn to paint, you are taught to see “spae” from both negative and positive perspectives. Are you looking at a painting of a woman in front of a window, or are you looking at a window, obscured by the shape of a woman?

Similarly, consider a map - are you looking at a map of continents or a map of oceans? Welp, that depends on your perspective. How does switching your perspective help inform your understanding of both land and sea? How does seeing the painting as being about a window help inform your understanding of the woman? How does seeing the painting as being about a woman inform your understanding of the window?

Transiting Jupiter (expansion), the South Node (skills/habits/themese you come into life with, which you should keep, as well as toxic skills/habits/themes to release, and the Sun (identity, consciousness) are in Leo (identity, authenticity, confidence), along with the Moon (internal processing, seeds of life), and Pluto (gaining empowerment by facing fears), in Aquarius (collective, revolution, questioning), and the North Node (skills/habits/themes you meant to develop).

The first Eclipse this season will occur on August 12th (a TOTAL SOLAR Eclipse in Leo, the first of the eclipses along this Axis), and the second will be a PARTIAL LUNAR Eclipse in Pisces, winding up a series of eclipses along the Pisces/ Virgo Axis, on August 28th.)

In general, eclipses operate like fated shifts and reflect back our corresponding reactions to them. Astrology (depending on whose framework you are applying) can be seen as the intersection of fate and free will (think lines intersecting like a plaid print.) One line moves fated events into place; the other moves along our free will. These two lines intersect during eclipses. Fated events intersect with our actions (and re-actions).

Speaking of intersections… When an Eclipse occurs, the position of the Sun, Moon, and the Earth do a little dance, an alignment position dosey-doe. Eclipses also mean the Lunar Nodes (archetypal/mathematical points relative to the Moon’s path intersecting the Sun’s path) are intersecting with the ecliptic.

All togehter - Eclipses accelerate change, the Cosmos re-arranges the planetary chess pieces, and we feel it in a ripple effect of change in our collective experience and in our own individual (personal) lives. Some chess pieces get introduced, others get moved around, and some are removed from the game for a while.

Core Themes: Check your perspective, literally look at things in a new light

Total Solar Eclipse: Full (Total) Solar (Soul-are/Your identity/Concsiousness) Eclipse (light reflection shift). What literally happens: The Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, “temporarily” blocking the Sun (and its light) from Earth’s perspective - making it appear as if the Sun goes dark for a moment.

What symbolically happens: ego check, what can we see more fully when we stop focusing on the figure of the painting, and instead focus on the “negative spae” around the figure? What can we see better when we see it in silhouette? What comes into view all around an issue, idea, identity, challenge, or opportunity when we see more clearly the surrounding circumstances and factors? Now that we can see it - how will we incorporate that information when the figure returns to being the focus? How will we process this new perspective and integrate it into our identity and conscious awareness? Solar Eclipses make the unconscious conscious, with respect to our identity, self-awareness, and re/action to increased consciousness.

August 12th: New Moon, Total Solar Eclipse in Leo - The Full Conscious/Identity - Perspective Shift occurs with the Sun (spotlight/ attention/ identity) & Jupiter (increased, expansion, largesse) in Leo ( ego, identity, confidence, performance, individual creativity, optimism).

These planets will be Opposite (objective analysis and opposites demanding to be integrated) the New Moon (new seed, new start, new cycle) in Aquarius (power to the people, group work, rebellion, technology, debate). It ushers in a new cycle of creating inner validation rather than seeking external, superficial “likes”, finding your voice within the right groups, sharing the spotlight without diminishing anyone’s individual shine. Caring about others as much as ourselves.

August 28th: Full Moon, Partial Lunar Eclipse in Pisces -The Partial Inner Life/ Habits & Roots of our Subconscious Awareness Shift occurs with the Moon (inner child/quality we teach family systems/ roots/processing of thoughts and feelings), in Pisces (empathy, artistry, spiritual energies, holistic perspective) and the Sun (spotlight/ attention/ identity) in Virgo (raising the bar, work ethic, dedicaiton, purifying, healing, reaching perfection).

This Eclipse is the final along the Pisces/Virgo axis cycle that started in 2024. It reveals the core concepts of themes we have been working through since then as they relate to balancing our focus on the details with the big picture, a necessary taking of inventory vs addiction to criticism or over-focusing on what’s still not perfect, dreaming a new dream by destroying old illusions, realizing where escapism actually kept you stuck in the same rut, and demanding the intuition be as respected equally (if not more at times) than following orders.

An additional layer to consider. We’ve all heard that physicists agree time is not “real” in the sense that its existence as moving in a forward and linear way is purely relative to the measurement (all time exists simultaneously in all states and positions all at once). But most of us experience life as moving in the forward direction. So do the planets (except when they appear retrograde (moving backward) from Earth’s perspective). So planets, like people, “move forward”. The Nodes of the Moon “move backward”.

Picture this: when we read or see or hear a new book, movie, or song, we move forward from beginning to end, discovering major plot points along the way. We remember the beginning and have it as a place of measurement to compare/ contrast with each new plot twist, new character, or key change. That is how we (collectively and individually) experience time (moving forward) along this new Eclipse Axis Cycle (in Leo & Aquarius).

BUT THE NODES “start” at the “ending”. The Nodes move backward from ending to beginning. They offer us glimpses into the ways things might end up if we don’t encourage our subconsciousness to talk to our consciousness. They drop hints of change (sometimes in the least subtle ways imaginable) during eclipse seasons. They shift our perspective to focus on plot points that will turn out to be crucial, so we don’t miss the main point of the story. The Nodes meet us at crucial intersections. We might see things from the “inciting incident’s” perspective, but the Nodes are hinting to us, because they see things from the finale.

If we can pause during eclipse season and move forward with intentional awareness (don’t push/don’t avoid), we are more likely to pick up major clues from the Nodes. Think about a great story and about clues in the first episode, hiding (literally) in plain sight. Think about how you “remeberd” those same clues from the beginning to the ending. Now imagine the Nodes watching the episode with you (they’ve seen the whole series already), and when something in the pilot episode corresponds to the finale, they whisper - pay attention, this will be important later.

If we use this Eclipse season to pause the play long enough to hear “this is gonna be important later”, then resume playing. We can use this added (Nodal) insight to help guide our actions and reactions when we reach the intersection of fate and free will. We can process possible outcomes at the start, thereby informing and empowering our current choices at the end.

But let’s dive (back) into the summer waters of Cancer Season by addressing a MAJOR ASTROLOGICAL PHENOMENON - the July 19th exact configuration of the famous Barbault Basket.

Perhaps you’ve heard astrologers discuss “The Barbault Basket”. André Barbault, a French astrologer, predicted the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic in his 2011 book Prévisions astrologiques pour le nouveau millénaire (Astrological Predictions for the New Millennium). His methodology? His work focused on mundane astrology (as in mundus - global/collective astrology) and on a highly concentrated geometric configuration (aspect pattern) of planets forming a cradle or “basket” shape.

He used the “Gouchon-Barbault Cyclic Index” to analyze historical planetary alignments. He based his prediction on a steep drop in this index, which indicated to him a period of “severe global turbulence and an impending worldwide health crisis”, which he tied to the Saturn-Pluto alignments, starting in 2020.

He also forecast that, around July 19, 2026, an astrological configuration would emerge as “the most beneficent configuration of the century”. He believed it would serve as a starting point for a “splendid relaunch of civilization” and a major reorganization of global structures. Core themes of his July 2026 predictions include:

• A New World Age: He foresaw the period from 2026 to 2028 as the “flight” of a new global civilization that had begun to take root around the year 2000.

• Social & Economic Elevation: Barbault highlighted the elevation of the “lower strata” of the global population, bringing a significant rise in the standard of living for the poor and an “unprecedented victory over global hardship. (“It’s the economy, stupid” - James Carville)

• Altruistic Technological Growth: The harmonious aspects between outer planets were predicted to usher in a major, humanitarian-driven phase of technological innovation. (Perhaps the downfall of corrupt bro-oligarch technocrats? Regulations for big tech and privacy and anti-AI laws being passed?)

• Saturn-Neptune Cycle: The alignment of Saturn and Neptune at the very first degree of the zodiac signifies a powerful collective “reset,” dissolving older structures and boundaries to establish entirely new, collective-minded foundations. (The Aliens are here, and their intersectional feminists?)

The Planets Involved

• Jupiter: (in Leo), bringing in expansive fire energy, big concepts, big drive, big individual action taken, collectively

• Pluto: (in Aquarius), demanding we “Look under the rug”, audit, face the truth, and overhaul our relationship to tech at a systemic, societal, and collective level

• Uranus: (in Gemini), sparking innovation, intellect, and rapid forward momentum in communications, dialogues, and perceptions in global relationships

• Neptune: (in Aries), inspiring pioneering ideation and individuated spiritual awakening

The Aspects Involved

These planets form the peak of their alignment in mid-July, 2026

• The Core Geometry: The basket configuration is created by a minor grand trine (composed of trines and sextiles).

• The Exact Convergence: On July 19th, Jupiter, Pluto, Uranus, and Neptune all make exact major aspects to one another at precisely 4 degrees (The Cancer Degree), during the Cancer (Sun) Season.

• Harmonious Energies: Sextiles and trines dominate the sky, which can be interpreted as a mostly positive, harmonizing, or helpful energy exchange

• Neutral Interpretation: Sextiles and Trines can also be understood to represent excitement, hyper-activation, and expansion of energy (neither good nor bad)

This is an example of the Barbault Basket on a Natal Chart with Aquarius Rising.

Depending on your unique Natal Chart’s placements, the Barbault Basket will activate your chart in the houses (sections) where you have Leo, Aquarius, Gemini and Aries.

Let’s look at a few of the planets from the “basket” activating DT’s chart.

Neptune (4 degrees) conjunct Saturn (14) Aries in his 8th house- themes might include:

The absorption, dissolution, and distillation of a dream, discrimination or inability to discern fantasy from reality, dreams from nightmares, visions from reality, being haunted by secrets, having secrets revealed, history of violence, abuse of power, money exchange, private matters related to sex, death, and taxes coming to the surface or being held to account.

Neutral: The aspect “could” offer him a chance to fess up, get psychological help, seek medical treatment, confront his “shadow” and past; the aspects are certainly encouraging this, but I suspect he will react by retreating, further denying (until it cannot be), and attempting to hide things. Transformation of understanding power.

Helpful: The aspect offers him an opportunity to start over, a new dawn, new day, new vision, clean slate, fresh start around his “shadow life,” and heal it. It demands that he transform his relationship to power and power dynamics.

Confrontational: the aspect dictates that the more he tries to hide things, the more likely they are to be exposed. An unwillingness to confront one’s relationship to power will no longer suffice. He will have to face his deepest fears, or he will not progress.

Pluto in Aquarius in the 6th house, themes might include:

The bringing to light of hidden illnesses and the exposure of regular, day-to-day actions, commonplace behaviors, common practices, lifestyle, habits, and habitual tendencies. Facing mortality; facing fallout from repeated abuse of power in the micromanagement of his macro career or legacy; being held to account by “the people,” the collective; facing his abuse of communities within collectives and for corporations. A preoccupation with what happens “after”, legacy, married to an inability to give up “control” over systems of operation in his day-to-day life.

Neutral: this aspect could offer him a chance to heal, to seek medical, mental, and psychological assistance. It is about confronting the ego and its default patterns.

Helpful: this aspect could offer him a chance to change his pace, alter his diet and lifestyle, and discover what it means to be part of something larger than himself.

Confrontational: this aspect will guarantee that what you consume/ ingest comes back to haunt you, including: diet, lifestyle, treatment of others, treatment of your body, what media you read ( or don’t), whom you socialize with, what patterns you repeat, how you move your body (or don’t), how you’ve treated your body (and others) over a repeated time period. It's when the receipts are found, and the fine print gets read.

This is the Barbault Basket, as it will activate the Natal Chart of the United States.

Themes are likely to include: the inspiration for the country's founding, whether it has held up to that promise, and, if not, how (and whom) might better realize that dream for all. It will likely demand reckoning with unhealthy patterns that have gone unaddressed, been hidden, or ignored for too long. It asks for “inventory” to be taken and an overview of how resources are treated, valued and distributed.

As an astrologer, I tend to think of aspects having a blend of neutral to typical/likely expressions. Do I hope Barbault was right in his interpretation of a giant step forward for the planet - YAS! Do I also think it’s important to remember that such intense activation of the planetary can feel or result in a multitude of ways - also yes. Overall, I do think/feel a shift is coming and, in many ways, has already begun. It is OBVIOUS the state of the world isn’t working for most of its beings and that a tiny percentage of players whose interests do not intersect with the rest of us - and so I am hopeful that the “basket” holds some keys to our mutual liberation, mutual respect, greater equality, the return of empathy, and mutual investment in each other and our planet. I am also aware that it might hold some disorienting, chaotic, abrupt, plot-twisting drama along the way.

So grab some tea, do right by each other, and see how this energy manifests and how we, as a species, choose to respond to it.
