The whole EP is about showing up. Being present, being kind, even when you’re in the middle of something difficult. That’s what I was sitting with when I made these beats.

I wanted to make something I felt really connected to. Something that could motivate me, or just keep me company. I think it does that.

I’m proud of it. Still feel kind of cringe sharing it, but I think that’s just what this is supposed to feel like.

Over the summer I stepped away from that daily rhythm. My kids were home on break, and I wanted to take advantage of a time when they still wanted me around. We learned new bus routes to explore parks we hadn’t been to before, spent time at the ocean and the zoo, wandered through museums, and built plenty of forts at home. When I did carve out small blocks of time, I focused on finishing sample packs instead of writing new songs. Sound design is a different headspace than producing, but switching hats sharpened my ear. Coming back into beat making now, I feel clearer about the sound I want and how to get there. That recognition is its own win: noticing progress, even if it’s incremental, makes the process itself more enjoyable.

That’s the spirit behind the title for now, we’re here. It’s not the endpoint, just an acknowledgment of where I am (or was, when I finished this beat tape at the end of June 2025). I’m not only focused on moving forward but also on being present and leaning into whatever comes next. Maybe that’s what happens when you’re creating; each step becomes part of the past, and what matters is noticing the progress, learning from it, and carrying it into the next moment. Or maybe it’s just me making meaning out of something I would have created anyway.

Lately, the smallest things feel monumental. Walking my kids to preschool without getting a migraine. Making dinner and still having energy left over. Waking up and noticing the absence of something: no pressure behind my eyes, no creeping joint pain, no low-humming dread. I used to live in a kind of fog, one that dulled my thoughts and made everything feel just a little too hard. I assumed it was just me. But it wasn’t.

It turns out, it was histamines.

A couple months ago, I asked ChatGPT “I eat healthy. I don’t drink, eat processed foods or dairy. So why do I feel terrible sometimes and keep getting migraines that don’t track hormonally?” The question came back: Have you looked into histamines?
Histamines? What? That’s a thing? I’d never even considered that.

From there, I started researching, tracking what I ate, noticing how I felt an hour later and again over the next few mornings. I learned that some of my “healthy” habits weren’t actually helping. My lunch smoothie I’d been making for years turned out to be a histamine bomb. All that delicious gluten, fermented foods, coffee, leftovers, even avocado, tomato, banana, strawberry, and spinach — all of them were quietly poisoning me.

I then started to connect symptoms I’d been brushing off. The random ear and face itchiness I thought was perimenopause? That was histamine. The emotional crashes, the joint pain, even the heavy fatigue and night sweats (symptoms I assumed were hormonal) were actually being amplified by histamine overload. Once I started pulling those threads together, things began to make sense.

I started taking Claritin in the morning, magnesium glycinate at night. I drank more water and peppermint tea, ate smaller meals more regularly, and cut out foods that were feeding the histamine bucket. Right now, I’m down to about 25 foods that seem to be ok. Gradually, after a few weeks, the fog began to lift.

I haven’t needed my migraine meds, Zolmitriptan, in 7 weeks. The only times I have reached for it were on the days following a restaurant meal. That in itself feels huge.

I can’t say I’m cured. I don’t think it works that way. I’ve been referred to an allergist and have my first appointment this month. But I do know what I’m working with now, and that changes everything. There’s power in being able to name what’s happening. There’s relief in realizing it’s not all in your head.

The most surprising change of all? I’m not walking around with that undercurrent of urgency and nervousness that I thought was just part of my hard wiring. I feel clear. I feel present. And most days, I feel like myself in a way that I haven’t felt in a long time.

That’s the gift. And I’m holding it with so much gratitude, I almost don’t have the words.
(Almost.)

This week, my partner’s away and I’m solo with the kids. In the past, I would have braced myself, wondering how I’d make it through needing to bring the dog with us for preschool drop-offs, getting through dinners, bedtimes, and middle-of-the-night wakeups. But now? I’ve been enjoying it. I’m enjoying not feeling overstimulated, overwhelmed and in pain. Don’t get me wrong, it hasn’t been easy this week, but I finally feel like I can show up fully. For them. For me.

And no doubt through all of this, I’ve been making as many beats and sick vibes as I can. Looking forward to sharing new music with you soon, and deeply grateful for the privilege to do so.

Also, I guess ChatGPT helped me figure out my chronic health issues? It’s become a surprisingly steady support in helping me figure out what I can eat, and then plan recipes around those limits. There’s a strange silver lining in learning how to cook with limited materials. It reminds me of being in the studio, making a beat with just a few textures — sometimes less is more. (Not that I wouldn’t love to eat pizza again.)

If you read this earlier post, you’ll know I’d recently discovered a hormone disorder and had started tracking symptoms to understand what was driving the fatigue and pain. What I didn’t realize then was that histamine intolerance could be fueling the hormone issues too. This post feels like a part two, I guess. It’s a quieter, clearer chapter. A small celebration of what happens when things start to shift.

If you’ve been living with migraines, brain fog, chronic fatigue, or mysterious flare-ups and haven’t looked into histamine intolerance yet, it might be worth exploring. I’m not a doctor, just someone who’s been quietly figuring things out. But learning about histamines (and how they show up in food, stress, sleep, hunger, exercise, and more), gave me a language for things I had been silently navigating for years.
