Twin mum, AuDHD somatic trauma therapist (UKCP registered, based in London, UK) and specialist in maternal mental health, parenting after childhood trauma, repatterning our nervous systems and the coping strategies/stress responses we develop when we don’t get our needs met in childhood. Psychoeducation and sharing stories are a huge part of how we break down shame around the experiences of motherhood. Join me here.

I have hesitated before sending this in case you think I am ungrateful, an arsehole, generally out of touch or that I just should not be sharing this. Something about my experience being invalid because of my privilege or safety, particularly as the world burns in a myriad ways. This is a regular internal debate. Am I allowed to share my story? Am I allowed to use my voice? Can I? Yes, of course I can. And still this comes up. I am thanking my shame and its desire to protect me and sending this anyway.

I hope it finds someone who needs to read it.

<a class="image-link A house in central France in the mountains, 1000m above sea level and about 2 hours from my husband’s parents. I feel so happy I found this in one of my internet searches. Mercifully the pictures match what we find upon arrival.

There is so much nature to resource me.

Gorgeous trees. I am transfixed by the trees. Hornbeams (I think), silver birches, African bean trees, many different types of conifer, shiny leaved laurel bushes, red robin photinia shrubs and lots of Christmas trees. The green trees distract from the fact that the grass is yellow, although we are far from the fires in Bordeaux it is still very hot and dry. The trees make it much cooler though, the dappled light entrances me.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" The first question is a short question related to attachment and trauma in our younger years. Have a listen to episode 14 which gives a broad overview of trauma and helps provide context for the first question. Cath will be doing a more detailed view on this material (from episode 14) in an upcoming episode.

The second question relates to feeling seen and heard in our adult love relationships and how this is impacted by various factors, how our inner children play a role and some suggestions for how this need can be met. Cath shares a deeply personal anecdote to illustrate how and why different partners have different levels of comfort with discussions around emotions and how emotional neglect plays a huge role in this.

The book she references is ‘Mating in Captivity’ by Esther Perel.

If you’re enjoying this podcast.
