A devout protestant spent several years denying that the early church was a pagan invention until the historical record proved to him that there has always been a battle.

When the same patterns appeared among multiple unrelated sources, the burden of proof shifted. proving that an empty version of Christianity required ignoring nearly all of the writing from the first century.

The documents they cannot Erase

Ignatius of Antioch (c. 107 ad) stated that the eucharist is the body of Christ and that separation from the bishop would cut someone off from the church itself.

Justin martyr (c. 155-165 ad) stated that Sunday gatherings represented a true sacrifice being made to god. these men were writing while some of Christ’s apostles were still alive or had recently died. they did not appear to be innovators; they appeared to be individuals working to preserve what they had received.

the convert noted similar patterns throughout clement, polycarp, irenaeus without imposing any kind of artificial connections. the consistent thread running throughout these writers was not coincidental; it was indicative of a living authority which could not allow itself to disintegrate into mere subjective interpretation.

Why do critics continue to imply that these voices arose centuries after their respective authors?

Such an assertion contradicts the timeline of events; it is therefore impossible. Prior accounts already refute the notion that the church was intended to exist as nothing more than a free-for-all of private interpretations.

Power Over Others

Anyone claiming that the hierarchical nature of the roman catholic church is merely a product of medieval ambition/ power seeking must account for why those individuals closest to Christ’s apostles already viewed their local bishops as legitimate heirs and possessed genuine spiritual authority.

This question continues to arise because it is so difficult to avoid the fact that this evidence exists. in order to describe the early church as having been corrupt in some manner later on requires rewriting virtually all of the first two centuries of Christian history.

Few critics are willing to carry out such extensive work without resorting to blatant selectivity and/or ignorance.

There was real cost associated with making this decision. previous allegiances were broken. public explanations were necessitated. this was no drifting towards aesthetics nor escaping cultural wars.

It was direct result of using the same evidentiary standards utilized when evaluating all other historical assertions. when honest evidentiary standards are employed, such outcomes cease appearing unusual.

The Repetition of a Pattern

Serious inquirers, who refuse second-hand summaries continually arrive at this same conclusion. the documents remain available. We are now faced with whether or not we apply the same evidentiary standards employed when evaluating government records or founding documents, etc., to this issue as well.

When we do, then the narratives describing an untainted early faith which was corrupted by Roma appears to be merely an extension of the same elite tactics employed against any established authority that refuses to be subject to centralization and manipulation.

The man in this instance followed this trail unrelentingly and continued onward regardless of any convenient summaries; thus, providing an even clearer perspective regarding how truth can survive efforts designed to alter its definition.

If the first Christians already referred to themselves as possessing bishops, a real eucharistic presence, and an authoritative tradition, then what exactly was invented later?

Also, who benefits when that historical record is erased?

The Eucharist is the living experience of Christ Himself which no other Christian tradition possesses.

Christians have constructed their entire rebellion against the Church upon the rejection of this gift, exchanging the Body and Blood of Christ for mere bread and wine that only represent an absent Christ.

What Was Lost During the Reformation

Reformers didn’t just make worship easier. They cut off believers from the sole evidence of Christ’s continued presence.

This amputation has resulted in countless people who express great love and respect for Jesus, yet they never receive Him in the manner He stipulated.

Therefore, many now adhere to a Christianity based solely on ideas and memories of Christ rather than actual encounters with Him.

Think about this contrast in terms of your daily activities. A Catholic walks into a local church and kneels before a tabernacle where Christ resides.

A Protestant drives by that same building and goes inside a community center where Christ is proclaimed and spoken of but never actually physically present.

While one tradition maintains the summit, the other settles for a roadmap to a summit they refuse to ascend.

The Summit Revealing All Counterfeits

All recent attempts to obscure the distinction by having joint services or ambiguous references to “Presence” serve only to highlight the break.

There isn’t enough good intention to alter the objectively true reality that only the Roman Catholic Church performs the sacrifice of the Mass - the same sacrifice performed only once during Calvary and repeated in an unbroken succession.

Other Christian groups possess parts of the truth. Only the Church possesses the whole.

This isn’t prideful triumphalism for its own sake. It is simply the logical conclusion of believing what Christ says literally when He says “This is My Body.” Either Christ meant it or He didn’t.

The Roman Catholic Church has always responded unequivocally. Any response that doesn’t accept Christ’s literal statement requires rationalizing why those most significant words of the New Testament were figurative expressions.

Why We Need the Summit Restored

Christianity without the Eucharist will ultimately turn either towards activism or sentimentality since it lacks the objective anchor of Christ’s real physical presence.

Catholics who reclaim a living knowledge of Mass as both source and summit of all Christian worship become the only reliable counterpoint to this trend. Catholics don’t require creating new programs or chasing after relevancy.

They only need to believe in receiving what has consistently been provided by the Church.

There is nothing culturally conditioned in separating Catholics from all other Christian communions. It is the difference between being possessed of God and describing Him from afar.

Neither this difference nor will this difference be negotiated out of existence. It cannot be softened by appeals to unity that ignore the very gift Christ gave so that unity might occur.

The Eucharist is simply the test that no other Christian denomination may meet.

An original observation that comes into view with significant force here is that the exact same technology that enables rapid defense of doctrine will reward the loudest and least charitable voices with attention -- thus reversing the hierarchy of influence that previously placed greater value upon prayerful and measured teachers.

The deposit of faith is not raw material to modify. It is God’s complete revelation of His Son Jesus Christ preserved through His Church.

Leaders of the Church cannot provide enough welcoming signs/banners to replace the void created when they reduce or eliminate their teachings.

There is just one question that gets to the bottom of all the excuses.

Would families still be abandoning these parishes if they were teaching and living the fullness of the Catholic Faith without modifications?

Recovering What Has Been Lost

Why Saints are essential Now

If you strip away the core components of the Church’s life – without considering the Scriptural basis — what will happen to the Church?

Forgiveness is Divine

The objections keep coming up, yet when each is measured against the entirety of the Word of God, and the consistent practice passed down from the Apostles, they fall apart.

For example, authority of the Pope is not based on something added later to scripture but was commissioned by Jesus Christ to Peter to “strengthen” his brethren and give him the “keys to bind & loose.” Similarly, the right to absolve sinners comes from Jesus’ delegation to His Apostles and their successors of the ability to forgive sins.

Mary’s designation as Mediatrix arises from her singular participation in the Incarnation, which is always secondary to Jesus Christ but is certainly part of God’s plan. Purgatory deals with the fact of purification for those who died in grace but still need some degree of cleansing.

Finally, images provide us a window into the Divine and not an object of worship and thus align with the incarnational principle that God became visible.

None of these relationships are forced upon us. Rather, they arise naturally when we allow the entire testimony of Scripture to speak together with the Living Tradition that preserved and explained it. When we separate one from the other, we create an unstable base that cannot endure extended scrutiny.

History Always Repeats

For how long can fractured communities ignore the documented history that illustrates these practices being carried out since the first century?

Serious individuals concerned about regaining a full understanding of Christian doctrine face urgent questions such as this. Frequently, objections follow a pattern of a limited view that selects isolated verses while ignoring the greater context of succession and communal worship.

When Tradition is viewed as an enemy instead of a faithful protector, there follows repeated reinvention that departs ever farther from the original deposit. Returning each doctrine to its roots in both Scripture and to the Fathers who received it directly from the Apostles provides for an integral perspective that previously united Christians across cultures and generations.

This urgency also exists regarding images and devotional practices. As Jesus became visible humanity for our sake, so too does He justify our representation as Christ and as Saints.

What price do Believers pay when they cast aside these teachings without investigating their scriptural and historical bases?

There are several early Christian writings which provide insight into the early practices and beliefs of the first followers of Jesus. Two of the most influential writings are the Didache and the Epistle of Barnabas.

The Didache is an early Christian manual written about A.D. 70-130. It contains teachings on faith, morals, worship, prayer, fasting, love of neighbor, and church government.

This document emphasizes the importance of community life in the early Christian church and encourages believers to follow certain rules and practices. For example, it states that each Sunday there should be a communal gathering for the Lord’s Supper.

Additionally, it provides a list of moral obligations such as not killing another person (not murder), not committing adultery, and being truthful.

The Sacrament of Baptism

The Didache also describes the role of elders in the church and their responsibility to teach and lead. In addition to providing instruction, the elders are responsible for administering the Sacrament of Baptism. This document demonstrates that Baptism has been considered a Sacrament from the beginning.

The Didache concludes with instructions for those preparing to receive Holy Communion. The reader is told to prepare by living a virtuous life. One should fast before receiving the sacrament.

The Epistle of Barnabas is attributed to Barnabas, Paul’s companion mentioned in Acts. However, this attribution is disputed by scholars. Regardless of authorship, this letter is valuable for understanding early Christian teaching on matters of ritual and morality. Written during the time period A.D. 70-130, it discusses rituals associated with Jewish law.

Christ and the Jews

Barnabas also explains why Jewish law could not be followed after Christ came. He states that Jewish laws were given by Moses as temporary measures until Christ arrived. Since Christ has come, we are free from those laws and only required to follow two commandments: love God above all things and love your fellow man.

Another section deals with the Sabbath rest. Before Christ died, he rested every seventh day to show obedience to the Old Testament commands. After Christ rose from the dead, however, he showed that Saturday rest was replaced by Sunday celebration. Therefore, Christians observe Sunday as their day of rest instead of Saturday.

A final section deals with sacrifice. Under Jewish law, animals were sacrificed as atonement for sin. Barnabas teaches that Christ became our sacrifice so that animal sacrifices are no longer necessary.

In summary, the Didache and the Epistle of Barnabas demonstrate that Baptism was recognized as a sacrament from the earliest days of Christianity.

Both documents describe a close relationship between the church and God through a variety of rituals and practices such as worship services, fasting before communion, and a clear distinction between Old Testament law and new Christian teachings.

Protestants demanding the use of “Scripture alone” (Sola Scriptura) as the only Rule of Faith are completely ignoring a simple historic fact which should inflame the ire of every faithful follower.

There existed a Church, which had been instructed, governed and had full authority, for many years before even the first books of the New Testament were ever written.

This demonstrates that the foundation upon which they have erected their theological system has been built on shifting sands rather than the solid Rock that Christ Himself established.

The Church of Christ

Christ established His Church using the apostles with the authority to both bind and loosen. The same church functioned via oral tradition, ordained bishops and engaged in sacramental life for many decades before there was any agreement as to what would constitute the Canon.

How could anyone possibly assert that scripture alone is sufficient when the very Body that created and protected scripture functioned without it for multiple generations?

Another question merits an answer. If Christ intended Scripture to be the only authority, then why did He create a visible, hierarchical Church with successors before any Apostle wrote anything down on papyrus?

“I want to live in a Christian country,” the Twitch streamer told his massive online audience. “That’s right. I don’t want to mandate Christianity, but I want the laws, culture, and the predominant religion of the country to be Christian. I am an atheist, but I recognize and enjoy the privileges of the Christian culture that I grew up in, and I don’t want my country to change from the way it was when I grew up.”

Why does that admission carry more weight than the same argument coming from a pastor?

Because Asmongold has no theological stake in the outcome. Nobody can accuse him of protecting his own faith or defending institutional religion. He’s simply looking at the results, the actual civilization built around Christian moral architecture, and concluding that dismantling it would cost far more than most people arguing for secularism seem willing to admit.

He didn’t stop there either. In a separate clip, Asmongold laid out something even more direct. “This is a Christian country,” he said. “It’s based off of Christian law. Western culture is Roman law with Greek philosophy and Christian morality. And all of that comes together to make a social system.”

That’s not a controversial historical claim. It’s the plain architecture of how the West actually developed. Roman legal structure. Greek rational philosophy. Christian moral conviction binding the two together into something coherent enough to build hospitals, universities, and constitutional government on top of.

Asmongold isn’t alone among skeptics reaching this conclusion. Murray Rothbard, an atheist of Jewish heritage and one of the foundational thinkers behind modern libertarianism, argued that Western liberty and private property rights didn’t emerge from a vacuum. He traced them directly to Catholic natural law theory, developed centuries earlier by scholastics who bridged Christian revelation with Greek philosophy. Rothbard’s warning was blunt: without an absolute, transcendent moral standard sitting above the state, the state itself simply becomes the new god, answerable to nothing and no one.

Richard Dawkins, arguably the most famous atheist alive, has landed in nearly the same place. He calls himself a “cultural Christian,” admitting he feels “at home in the Christian ethos” and prefers its outcomes to whatever else might replace it. He’s leaned on an old Hilaire Belloc rhyme to make his point: “Always keep ahold of nurse, for fear of finding something worse.”

Isn’t it worth pausing on that? Two of the most prominent atheist intellectuals of the last century, along with one of the most popular streamers in the world today, all arriving independently at the same uncomfortable conclusion. You don’t have to believe in God to recognize what happens to a society once the moral floor beneath it gets kicked away entirely.

That floor has a name most people forget to say out loud. Imago Dei, the ancient doctrine that every human being is made in the image of God. It sounds like pure theology until you trace what it actually built. Universal human dignity. The radical idea that a king and a peasant carry equal inherent worth, not because a government decided to grant it, but because it was true before any government existed to recognize it. Strip that foundation away, and rights stop being something a person simply has. They become something a state hands out, and just as easily takes back.

The twentieth century already ran the experiment of building a civilization without that floor. Nations that rejected Imago Dei entirely didn’t produce equality or progress. They produced regimes that treated human beings as raw material for the state to shape, discard, or eliminate whenever convenient, from forced famines to mass sterilization campaigns carried out in the name of a supposedly rational, secular future.

Asmongold clearly isn’t thinking about theology when he says he wants to live in a Christian country. He’s thinking about results. The laws. The culture. The basic assumption that a human life carries inherent worth that no government gets to overrule.

That’s not a small thing for an atheist to admit publicly to millions of viewers. It might be the most honest argument for Christian civilization anyone’s made this year, precisely because the man making it has nothing to gain from pretending to believe.

Attracting New Converts is Becoming a Challenge

However, the same records that demonstrate disputes over writings such as the Shepherd of Hermas or the Epistle of Barnabas also provide examples of formal review by acknowledged leaders.

To therefore accept one group of writings while rejecting the context in which those writings were formally reviewed places the critic’s position solely on selected evidence.

Similarly, further investigation demonstrates that this same pattern emerges again and again throughout debates concerning authority and interpretation. Whether questions arise regarding practices such as the real presence in the Eucharist or the intercession of saints, arguments immediately begin to rely on subsequent developments.

The same historical method could trace these interpretations backward to the patristic witness if it were employed consistently.

However, there remains much unknown as to why certain eras within church history have undergone careful study, while the era responsible for fixing the boundaries of the biblical canon has received relatively little scrutiny.

The answers usually revolve around assumptions regarding ultimate authority. While proponents who advocate that authority resides solely in the text itself may now account for the human agents who identified and preserved that text for successive generations of persecution and controversy, the early councils proceeded with confidence that the Holy Spirit continues to direct the Body of Christ even beyond the end of the apostolic era.

It was this conviction regarding continued divine guidance that both informed their recognition of authoritative writings, as well as their rejection of other writings that did not meet established tests.

For readers to ignore these decisions today as irrelevant to present day conversations requires separating the texts from the community that originally received those texts.

The Formation of Scripture

When it comes to citing historical documentation outside of scripture to shed insight into contemporary political or cultural phenomena in the same time frame as scripture, we routinely cite documents from that time frame.

We establish an artificial distinction when we treat conciliar actions (which occurred in the same time frame as scripture) differently. The writings of those who attended these council gatherings provide continuity to later generations who inherited these writings.

This disparity is particularly evident when conversations move from abstract concepts to tangible documents. There is significant overlap between lists proposed by individual writers in the second and third centuries, and the final canon.

However, those lists also indicate that there was continuing clarification necessary through collective discernment. Therefore, ignoring that process leaves our understanding incomplete.

There is another related trend in contemporary dialogue between traditions, namely defenses of Biblical Sufficiency often rely on historical explanations of how the various writings came to be collectively assembled.

As soon as those historical explanations are tested against actual accounts from that time (e.g., minutes from council meetings, letters), our narrative needs to be revised.

Prioritizing Primary Sources

Therefore, engaging with primary documents more directly rather than through secondary accounts influenced by later disagreements allows us to gain greater clarity on these matters. Consistency across multiple geographical areas and lack of major reversals after the fourth century suggest a deliberative process rather than an ad hoc arrangement.

These reflections do not resolve all contested issues; however, they provide greater awareness of the implications involved in using history as resources to draw upon or dismiss based upon whatever conclusion has been assumed in advance.

The records remain available to those willing to engage with them without preconceived notions.

When we have a single line from an old bishop being distorted to create a new understanding of the Church that Christ built, it is important to understand what implications it has for someone wanting to trace their Catholic faith to the earliest roots instead of stopping at a later slogan.

This specific challenge presented on X attempts to put St. Ignatius of Antioch against the Catholic interpretation of Matthew 16, by stating the Church Fathers only looked at Jesus as the Rock.

This assertion comes across strong in online forums but falls apart when the total content of his writings and the consistency of the early fathers are given due consideration.

A person reviewing this excerpt may stop and wonder if thousands of years of Catholic appeal to the fathers are based on selective memory. However, when examining Ignatius’ writings further, it becomes apparent that Ignatius supports the idea that the Roman See holds a unique authority over the other churches and also that scripture uses Peter as the appointed Rock without conflict.

The Role of Ignatius

Ignatius’ seven letters were written during his time under guard and en route to martyrdom (circa 107 AD). Within his letter to the Romans he states that “the church that presides in love” and teaches authoritatively so much so that all other churches should respect their teachings.

Ignatius does not treat each bishop within a city as equal in status. Therefore, Ignatius’ distinction between individual bishops already undermines the flat representation that all the Fathers simply reduced the Rock to Christ while completely dismissing any Petrine office.

In addition to praising the unity of the church under the bishop, presbyters, and deacons, Ignatius advises the church in Smyrna not to separate from the bishop as you would separate from Christ. His language mirrors the Matthean Commission where Peter received the Keys and was tasked with strengthening the brethren.

Although Ignatius did not need to state the whole verse since he knew from living experience that there was apostolic succession and thus a continued understanding of the Matthean Commission, he certainly could have done so had he wanted to.

Christ and Peter

Some critics will draw attention to places in early literature where Fathers glorify Christ as the Cornerstone and assert that references to Peter must be strictly honorific. Yet those same authors frequently make clear that Christ has chosen to construct upon Peter in a tangible and visibly active sense.

Early literature consistently demonstrates that these two ideas coexist in harmony. It takes a conscious decision to create artificial division between them by disregarding how Ignatius and his generation recognized the Bishop of Rome as the final court of appeals in ecclesiastical disputes.

If indeed the earliest voices after the apostolic period genuinely viewed Peter as nothing different than any other apostle why does Ignatius give precedence uniquely to Rome rather than addressing all churches equally?

The pattern is repeated in Clement’s previous letter to Corinth, in which the Roman church intervened to bring order. Both patterns demonstrate alignment with the Catholic perspective that the Rock of Matthew 16 endures through Peter’s successors.

Dissecting Ignatius to Uncover the Truth

Upon further study of Ignatius, there is no evidence that he believed Christ canceled His promise to Peter due to His own Lordship. Rather than viewing either the Eucharist or the bishop as mere symbolic expressions of unity, Ignatius views them as physical guarantors of unity because Christ acts through appointed servants.

This sacramental and hierarchical model stems directly from the same Gospel passage contested above.

Therefore, X posits a false dichotomy. The Fathers confessed either Jesus alone as Rock or they confessed Peter as Rock. The record indicates that they confessed both with Peter flowing from Jesus. Abandoning this harmony creates confusion in regards to coherence among early Church writers which is evident throughout their writings.

Reviewing subsequent patristic centuries merely reinforces this trend. Authors such as Irenaeus and Cyprian cite the Roman See as the benchmark for orthodoxy teaching, similarly treating Peter’s Office as Christ’s appointed means for maintaining unity.

Irenaeus and Cyprian provide direct continuation with Ignatius rather than opposing him.

Individuals browsing through comparable conversations on X will recognize how quickly the argument transitions from Ignatius to later medieval developments. The transition represents concession of early grounds. When individuals remain focused on first- and second-century documents, the original force of the Catholic reading of the Rock remains intact.

The tone of these discussions typically escalates due to proximity to the visible unity prayed for by Christ in John 17. Should Christ never intend for the rock to operate through a successor, then today’s divisions represent Christ’s preferred arrangement rather than something tragic needing healing.

Ignatius, writing as he approached death by lion’s den, undoubtedly desired otherwise.

Cooperation and Unity are Central Themes

Again and again throughout his letters, Ignatius portrays a Church that is both Christ-centered and organized. Christ remains Head; Peter and his successors become visible points of unity. The same method can be applied to other early texts. Once restoring full context, there appears no longer any real disagreement between Jesus as Rock and Peter as Rock.

It’s time to talk about the absurdity of many Protestant sects’ claims to being the “one true” form of Christianity. Many self-proclaimed “Christian” organizations are quick to define who can be considered a “real Christian,” and yet immediately fail to uphold their own doctrines.

In a recent exchange on X (formerly Twitter), a Protestant made the argument that anyone professing to be a Christian who fails to repent of homosexual acts cannot be considered a true Christian.

However, an anonymous Catholic responded by pointing out that the Protestant had abandoned the doctrine of “faith alone” (which is supposed to be the hallmark of Protestantism) and instead was acting as judge and jury.

The Catholic also brought up the fact that traditional Catholicism is the standard of all true Christianity, as supported by Matthew 18:17 which states that every case of dispute should first be taken before the local Church.

This particular controversy is far from isolated. In fact, it reflects an inherent contradiction within Protestantism. On one hand, Protestants boast about having “sola fide,” or believing solely by faith, which supposedly means that they don’t have to perform good works in order to earn their salvation.

A Deep Dive into Protestantism

At the same time, however, many Protestants act as though repentance is a condition for being saved. They will often quote verses such as Mark 10:14 or Matthew 19:13-14 in an attempt to show that children must be baptized in order to enter heaven.

Yet, despite quoting those passages, many Protestant churches will exclude children from receiving Baptism unless they demonstrate outward signs of repentance.

While repentance may certainly indicate that a child has been baptized in the proper manner, the issue at hand is whether or not that indicates that they were truly converted.

While we do know that the Holy Spirit dwells inside the hearts of all born again Christians, we also know that conversion does not always occur simultaneously with baptism. Thus, to insist that children must demonstrate repentance before receiving Baptism is nothing short of placing additional requirements upon the faithful.

Is this not simply another way of saying that faith requires obedience?

The Catholic replied directly to the above criticism. If you’re going to require repentance in addition to faith in order to be considered saved, then you are essentially requiring both faith and obedience.

And who gets to determine which sins constitute “unrepented sin”? The Bible itself says that the Church is given authority by God to determine whether or not a member remains part of His Body.

For instance, in Matthew 18:17 we read, “If he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.”

It’s obvious that Jesus did not intend for individuals to make judgments about other members based upon their interpretations of scripture. Rather than allowing individual interpretation, Christ established a hierarchy within His Church and empowered that hierarchy to exercise disciplinary authority on behalf of Him.

Of course, protestants tend to shy away from this idea by fragmenting into numerous different denominations each with their own unique interpretation. However, Traditional Catholics adhere steadfastly to the apostolic foundation upon which Christ built His Church.

That is to say that we recognize and respect the authority of the Church He founded. When a sinner refuses to repent and become reconciled with God through the Church, we do not merely shrug our shoulders and allow him/her to continue living in sin. Rather, we discipline the sinner according to the laws that govern us.

Therefore, @proMHFMcatholic on X hit the nail squarely on the head regarding the conflict between Protestant morality and Catholic morality. As stated earlier, both agree that sin separates man from God and repentance brings reconciliation through the Church.

However, Protestantism lacks the institutional authority that Catholicism provides in order for a sinner to undergo formal repentance and subsequent reconciliation. Therefore, Protestantism ultimately defaults to personal fiat.

Thus, Protestants frequently create new rules as they go along and use personal judgment rather than seeking guidance from their respective Church leaders or councils.

The Catholic Way

Catholics, on the other hand, have a clear line of authority that allows them to provide objective guidance in matters of conscience and/or morality. Moreover, since Catholics submit themselves to the leadership of their bishops and the Pope (the successor of St. Peter), they benefit from a unified body of believers working together toward common goals – something lacking in most Protestant denominations.

The irony here is that sola scriptura naturally leads to sola ego. Each individual Protestant becomes their own de facto pope; as soon as another Protestant disagrees with them, it’s off to battle – cultural warfare!

Meanwhile, traditional Catholicism serves as the embodiment of Christ’s design for His Kingdom – a single flock guided by a single shepherd.

As stated previously, we believe that papal authority is not oppressive; it is simply shepherding. Just prior to ascending into Heaven after His Resurrection, Jesus told His disciples in John 21: “Feed My Sheep!” Not scatter them into an endless number of separate groups.

Question Everything While Remaining Faithful

There are several rhetorical questions raised by the above article: If faith alone saves us, then why does James 2:24 say “you are justified by works and not by faith alone?”

Why did Jesus give the Great Commission in Matthew 28 commanding His Apostles to teach AND bind people?

Since Protestants commonly dismiss these references as non-salvific (i.e., irrelevant for obtaining eternal life), they are effectively performing surgery on God’s Word. For centuries Catholic apologists have demolished the Protestant notion of sole reliance upon faith (i.e., Sola Fide).

The great medieval theologian Thomas Aquinas addressed this topic extensively in his Summa Theologica; later, during the Reformation era, Cardinal Robert Bellarmine produced an equally thorough refutation.

Finally, contemporary apologetic resources available online demonstrate beyond a shadow of doubt how consistently Catholic tradition supports the concept of real presence, intercession by saints and hierarchical authority — all concepts rejected by most Protestant sects.

Is there something else that has been covered up in relation to the cosmos that is far greater than anything coming from outer space?

A panic erupts as more and more UAP (Unidentified Aerospace Phenomena) are being seen. Pilots claim they have witnessed crafts defying laws of physics. Reports from the Pentagon serve to fan the flames. Meanwhile a single voice cuts through the noise on X.

That voice belongs to Joshua T. Charles and he is sharing a post based upon an older thread which outlines many reasons for concern that have roots in antiquity. There is nothing speculative about this. Instead, this is a Catholic view of a phenomenon that bears witness to warnings issued by the Church Fathers.

UFOs or Angels? Maybe Even Demons

Angels fallen from heaven and bound more tightly after the Incarnation. That is the first reason for concern. Many early Christian writers including St. Justin Martyr and St. Irenaeus wrote about how Jesus’ victory over sin, death and evil caused demons to lose much of their freedom.

Demons were no longer able to travel around freely impersonating gods or natural elements. Since Jesus’ Resurrection, their deceit had become more subtle as well as limited to illusions and temptations.

Records of exorcisms and writings of the Church Fathers demonstrate this. Then why are we seeing this same pre-Christian mayhem in UAP sightings? Sightings of these UAPs grow exponentially in designs that have long since been barred to demons from playing with.

Keep that in mind. What causes this resurgence of demonic deception?

The timeline provided by Eschatology is frightening. Scripture describes many end-time signs: false Christs, celestial wonders, deceptions powerful enough to deceive even some members of the Elect if possible.

Matt. 24:24 makes no bones about it. Revelation also speaks about the rage of the Dragon as time draws near its close. The Church Fathers -- St. Hippolygus and St. Cyril of Jerusalem, among others -- linked demon activity to the last days as well as the time before the final curtain call when Satan would unleash his fury once again.

Modern Catholic scholars link UAP sighting patterns to those described by Scripture concerning the appearance of aerial phenomena signaling the rise of the Antichrist.

Coincidence? Or a clever setup for a precursor to this event?

The Mason Piece

Next, Freemasonry becomes part of the puzzle, as a string that ties together connections made behind closed doors. Historical exposures detail Masonic rituals calling forth entities beyond human understanding. Oaths and rituals publicly available reveal agreements with “entities” offering forbidden knowledge.

Charles’s repost notes that these entities are working in conjunction with human agents, combining Masonic Lodges with black budget technology. Consider reverse engineered aircraft or holographic projection systems designed to create a different narrative: replacing God with “star brothers.”

Leaked documents and testimony from whistleblowers, verified in open source documentation, show elite circles talking excitedly about such things. The ultimate objective? To undermine faith in God, legitimize acceptance of the supernatural, and lay groundwork for apostasy.

Does this hold up to the skeptical crowd? Skeptics laugh off explanations based on spirituality and insist on radar data and isotopic evidence. And yet patterns continue to emerge.

UAP sightings evade scrutiny, disappear when observed, produce psychological responses consistent with possession cases: fear, obsession, and conversion to New Age cults.

Record books from approved exorcists detailing similar behavior make sense given the Catholic record book describing similar behavior: no need for little green men when principalities and powers can accomplish what Ephesians 6:12 warns.

Truth is Emerging…

Also note the change in official tone: decades ago ridicule was used to silence skeptics. Today, Congressional Hearings consider UAP sightings as legitimate concerns for national security.

Why the sudden change? Look at both motives and dollars spent. Defense contractors cannot wait for trillions of dollars in contracts. Hollywood primes the pump for sympathetic ET stories. At the same time, biblical prophecy indicates a great falling away from the Faith during which the supernatural will masquerade as alien.

If these visitors are bringing peace and enlightenment, then why the secrecy surrounding them? Why mutilations reported by ranchers who claim they saw alien beings? Why do encounters result in witnesses being emotionally traumatized rather than uplifted?

Catholic theology provides counterarguments encased within steel armor. The Eucharist represents the supreme cosmic scandal: God became man in bread and wine, eclipsing any saucer story.

Unbroken papal authority protects against novelties just as the Church Fathers did in demolishing Arian heresy disguised as an alien gospel while defending salvation solely through the Cross.

Protestant critiques fail similarly; sola scriptura falls apart when ignoring tradition’s demonic playbook.

Believers should be sounding alarms right now because this is not innocent entertainment. Fatima’s Third Secret warned of smoky clouds obscuring faith due to demons (infernally).

Apparition sites such as Garabandal refer to “the commonwealth of demons.” These parallels exist. Catholics, equipped with sacramental protection (rosary), Truth (shield), remain steadfast.

X-poster @realmikolson recently posted that he believes that the Roman Catholic Church teaches that your salvation depends on being able to participate in their sacraments. Therefore, once you are outside of the Roman Catholic Church, you lose your ability to participate in Christ himself.

As such, the Vatican has made sure that people remain loyal to the institution - no matter how poorly the popes may govern the institution.

Mikolson makes a large claim with a lot of rhetorical flair - however, when you strip away the facade and look at the issue based on scripture, history and reason, it quickly falls apart.

Real Roman Catholicism

Roman Catholics do not view the sacraments as some sort of way to ensure loyalty to the Church. Rather, they are vehicles of grace given by Jesus. At the center of these vehicles is the Eucharist which is literally the Body and Blood of Jesus.

Jesus stated clearly in John chapter 6 that unless we consume the flesh of the son of man and drink His blood then we have no life in ourselves.

When Jesus spoke this, there were those present that were offended (in fact so offended) that they turned away from Him. Yet, instead of softening the statement for them, Jesus asked the disciples if they too wanted to turn away.

In itself, this passage destroys the myth of dependency. Christ was not attempting to build a kingdom, but rather reveal eternal truths. It was the Church’s duty to guard and distribute what He had told them to do at the Last Supper.

Christ told them to do what He had done - and He had told them to do it in remembrance of Him. Not symbolic poetry - but a commandment.

Those who criticize Protestantism in regards to this issue, like X-poster, twist this into some form of coercion. They portray the Church as a gatekeeper of salvation, and turning away from it is akin to spiritual suicide.

Of course, this could be true if sacraments were merely human constructs. However, what if they flowed directly from the Gospel accounts? Ignatius of Antioch, circa AD 107 wrote, “the medicine of immortality, the antidote against death.”

He specifically stated that those denying the flesh of Christ in the Eucharist were heretics. The early Christian community viewed sacraments as gifts of God - not dependencies.

Years later, the Reformation causes a split in this unity. The promise of Sola Scriptura provides freedom from priestly control, yet results in countless denominations breaking off from each other.

Which denomination has more individuals dependent on their own interpretation of scripture than on an authority to guide them? The Catholic Church offers both objective assurances and means to receive Christ - not as something hoped for - but as someone received.

When in Doubt, Reference Scripture

While early Protestants did not reject the real presence entirely - Luther believed in it - he used the term consubstantiation which confused things. Zwingli rejected the real presence entirely and instead advocated for a symbolic understanding. Calvin fell somewhere in between.

Today, many evangelical churches treat communion as nothing more than a bare memorial. Thus it is no surprise that the charge of dependency resonates strongly - as it is an extension of a tradition that removed the very means by which Christ gave his followers.

There is a similar pattern throughout Scripture regarding how God chooses to work through means. Naaman bathed in the Jordan river to be healed - not solely due to his willpower.

The Israelites passed through the Red Sea while covered with blood from lamb’s blood applied to door posts. While sacraments are not magic per se - they are God-chosen instruments. Remove them - and you remove faith from its physical anchor points.

The X-critic references papal errors as justification for leaving the Church. Popes are indeed sinners - capable of committing sins in governing or opinion-making. Infallibility is limited: ex cathedra statements on matters of faith and morals.

Peter denied Christ three times - and yet Jesus reaffirms his place as shepherd: “feed my sheep.” The Church continues to exist because Christ promised that gates of Hell would not prevail. Trust is not blind loyalty; it is confidence in the bride whom Christ purged.

Sarcasm aside, this dependency language ignores everyday reality of millions of Catholics receiving Communion every week - not out of fear - but out of hunger for Christ.

Many converts come to Catholicism after spending years attending Protestant services - all because of John 6’s unyielding call.

So why do they convert? Because spiritual hunger cannot satisfy anything less than metaphors.

What about Sola Fide, the Protestant safety net? Sola Fide says faith alone saves; no need for works or sacraments. Paul states faith justifies - but James responds with “faith without works is dead”.

Sacraments are expressions of faith-in-action working together with grace. Ephesians 2:8-10 puts it succinctly: saved by grace through faith - created unto good works. The Eucharist gives strength to those works - connecting us to Calvary’s sacrifice.

Learning From the Past

History adds credence to this position. All of the Church Fathers uniformly affirmed the Real Presence. Justin Martyr wrote in AD 155: “not as common bread ...but the flesh and blood of that incarnate Jesus.”

Irenaeus, Origen, Cyril of Jerusalem et al all echoed this sentiment. There is no record of any symbolic understanding until hundreds of years later. X-poster glosses over this vast patristic chorus and jumps straight into modern complaints.

You can mock the “institutional loyalty”, but ask yourself: what is the alternative?

A Bible smorgasbord where everyone gets to pick-and-choose verses to fit their mood? The Catholic Church affords continuity from Apostles right up to today.

The sacraments are lifelines in a disbelieving world - not shackles.

Key Questions to Consider

If Jesus intended His words about eating His flesh symbolically, why did thousands walk away from Him over those exact words?

If sacraments make people dependent on others’ opinions, why did St. Thomas Aquinas call the Eucharist sweeter than honey?

And if papal errors necessitate separation from Rome - where does that leave Christ’s declaration: “Upon this rock I shall build my church”?

The X-poster’s argument completely collapses when considering whether salvation is tied to participation within the visible Church.

Acts 2:47 demonstrates that day-by-day, the Lord added to His Church. Outside of it? Early councils such as Florence decreed that there is no salvation outside the Church - consistent with Christ’s prayer for unity.
