TGIF! Another hot and muggy day today with afternoon temperatures in the middle to upper 90s and heat index values between 100 and 110. Any stray t-storm chances over the weekend seem to be fading as well. We’ll see a shot of more comfortable air on Sunday and Monday but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see another run of 90 degree days next week.

Good Tuesday morning! A Heat Advisory is in effect through Thursday evening with daily afternoon temps in the 90s, combined with high humidity levels sending heat index values (what our body feels) into the 100-105 degree range. Heat sticks around into the weekend with little in the way of rain chances near-term. Can’t rule out a chance for a weekend shower or storm but not quite enough to toss into the forecast just yet.

Look for sunny, hot, and muggy conditions basically all week with afternoon temperatures in the 90s, and heat indices 100+ at times. No big rain chances through the end of the week.

Dry for now, but I’d expect summer storm chances to return later next week as well.

Good Wednesday morning! An incoming frontal boundary will spark off isolated to widely scattered storms as it moves through central Illinois late this afternoon into the evening. A couple storms could produce gusty winds to severe levels but widespread severe impacts are not anticipated, and storms should be in-out without causing another big flash flood issue. We’ll quiet down and clear out by Midnight, with another stretch of sunny, comfortable days taking us into the weekend.

Good Thursday morning! Last night’s unwelcome storms brought more heavy rain to the area, exacerbating ongoing flooding across the area. Heads up as you head out for the morning commute, as I’m sure there is still water ponding on roadways both in and out of town. Good news is, we’re headed for a much drier stretch over the next week. Aside from a couple lighter rain showers in the area Friday night, we’ve got a string of sunny, comfortable days lined up through the weekend and into early next week.

Good Wednesday morning! We’ll likely see scattered, but problematic showers and storms develop today that produce locally heavy rainfall into the early overnight. This is not going to be like the flood event we endured over the weekend, but because soils are already waterlogged and river levels are already elevated, any storms that produce heavy rainfall across the area (and there may be a few!) could exacerbate those issues. No major severe weather risk, though a few stronger wind gusts are possible across the area. We’ll turn sunny and mostly quiet tomorrow into the weekend, with a stray storm possible Friday afternoon.

Good Wednesday morning! Yesterday certainly escalated quickly across Champaign County and surrounding areas, and today’s forecast holds the same potential. We’ve got the exact same pesky boundary hanging around again today, with forecast guidance hinting at 1-2 rounds of storms potentially riding the boundary through central Illinois. That means another low predictability “we could be dealing with severe storms today!” forecast with unclear timing on the worst impacts. Look for the possibility of a mid-day around, and another late-afternoon or evening round across the area. Rain and storms stick around in the forecast through Thursday night!

Good Tuesday morning! Tricky, boom or bust forecast centered over central Illinois today with tons of thunderstorm fuel in the form of this hot and muggy air mass with an incoming jet stream disturbance. The stormy pattern that has been focused across the Chicago/northern Illinois area the last few days is likely to sink southward into our region, with several days of rain/storm chances through Friday. There’s been social media chatter around a significant severe weather event occurring locally today, but there’s a lot to be sorted out through the morning hours. We’ll be keeping an eye to the northwest for a potential thunderstorm cluster to organize and move out of Iowa, perhaps tapping into the very unstable air mass across central Illinois during the mid-day and afternoon hours with the potential for damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. Storm clusters continue to be in the forecast tonight into the next several days with some folks likely to see several inches of rain by the time we get through Friday.

Good Monday morning! The forecast remains tricky over the next few days with a low, but persistent daily risk of potentially strong to severe storm clusters developing across the area. In general, expect hot and muggy conditions for the next few days with the potential we could see one or two clusters of storms with gusty winds, isolated tornadoes, and locally heavy rainfall Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The chance for rain and storms looks to continue into the end of the week, though I think the risk for severe weather will fade a bit after Wednesday.
