Here are my five favorites from the week:

1. An Every Day Denim Shirt - I’ve been on a quest to find the perfect denim button-down shirt, and I think I finally found it. This one is just the right mix of casual and classic, making it an easy piece to wear with just about everything. If you see me this fall, there’s a very good chance I’ll be wearing this shirt!

2. Sheet Pan Chicken & Peaches - A delightful mix of spicy and sweet, this sheet pan recipe did not disappoint. Kudos to my husband for making this delicious dinner and for graciously adapting the recipe to leave out the red onions, which are definitely not my favorite.

3. Classic Sheet Set - Maybe I’ve lived in Maine just long enough to be completely brainwashed by L.L.Bean’s greatness, but these sheets continue to impress me wash after wash, year after year. They’re classic, comfortable, and I love this happy understated print.

4. Corn & Salmon Chowder - A summer soup that is both comforting and light. The combination of ingredients is a little unexpected, but it works, and the sweet corn adds a delicious little crunch. As with most recipes these days, credit goes to my father for whipping this up for us earlier this week.

5. A Sweater to Ease You Into Fall - I can’t help it, I just love sweaters! Gap continues to win me over with its excellent price points and pieces that are wearable for my every day life. This sweater is the perfect way to ease into fall.

I’m feeling incredibly grateful, completely exhausted, and very ready for what looks like it’ll be a cloudy weekend here in Maine.

Five favorites from the week:

1. Kid Tent - Friends who had kids before us shared their parenting mantra: incorporate kids into your life rather than letting them take over your life. It’s stuck with me for years, and this tent is one way we do just that. It gives our younger son a cozy place to nap or spend the night.

2. An Affordable Luxurious Duvet Cover - Who doesn’t love a well made, comfortable bed. While I’ve mostly struck out with my Quince purchases, this duvet cover has been a winner. It’s comfortable 12 months of the year and has held up beautifully.

3. Organize Your Week - I love being able to keep track of most things in my iPhone, some weeks I need to break my to dos into day by day chunks rather than stare at one overwhelming list and not know where to start. This magnets right to the fridge or can be torn off week by week and kept on your desk. Old school, I know, but effective!

4. Quick & Easy Salmon Recipe - Tossed in some slices of lemon and pesto and we inhaled this for dinner. Our boys love fish, so they always gobble up the leftovers, meaning nothing goes to waste when I make this easy weeknight recipe.

5. Simply the Best Socks - I’ve spent a lot of time on my feet this week between sailing and moving, and I’m reminded just how comfortable these socks are. 1. Skyjo - Friends recently introduced us to this game, and I love how strategic yet simple it is. It’s easy enough to play while you’re also chit chatting, and it’s very kid friendly. We’re hooked!

2. Throw on Pants - These pants are the perfect lightweight pair for those days when you really want to wear shorts but need the coverage of pants. I love the pretty floral print, which makes them feel fun and summery, and the comfort can’t be beat.

3. A Great Layer- I’ve had this fleece for years, and it continues to be one of my go to layers for cooler mornings and nights. It’s not too thick, goes with pretty much anything, and is the perfect combination of comfort and ease.

4. Travel Backgammon - We’re not a big game family, but Dave and I love backgammon. As soon as we get the kids to sleep, we’re having a cocktail and playing a few rounds. We’ve brought this travel set along on so many adventures.

5. Crispy Sheet Pan Gnocchi - An easy and incredibly adaptable recipe that I’ve made again and again. I made it earlier this week on the boat and added fresh corn cut off the cob and some pesto. So delicious and a crowd pleaser.

Here are my five favorites from this week:

1. Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas - Friends recently welcomed their second baby, so we brought them dinner this week. This Ina Garten recipe is always a crowd-pleaser and one of my favorite meals to make for others. It also freezes well, making it perfect for meal trains or stocking your own freezer. You can find the recipe in her cookbook, Modern Comfort Food.

2. Be Ready When the Luck Happens - While we're on the topic of Ina and her delicious recipes, her memoir is a must read. Actually, it's a must listen! She narrates the audiobook herself, and hearing her tell the story of her path to becoming the Ina we all know and love makes it even better. I especially loved how she never takes herself too seriously, even after all of her success.

3. Breezy Long Sleeve Dress - It's been a HOT summer, and I've been living in oversized dresses most days. This one is the perfect throw on and go option, but still looks polished enough for days packed with back-to-back video meetings. A heads up: it runs big, so I'd recommend sizing down.

4. A Classic Sweater - I've had this sweater (in red) for years, and I continue to reach for it through spring, summer, and fall. It's chunky without feeling too heavy, and for the price, it's hard to beat. Bonus: the code PERK is currently working for an additional discount.

5. Depuff Those Eyes - Not much sleep was had this week thanks to the above mentioned bat visitor, so these eye patches have been essential for avoiding raccoon eyes. 1. StraND Necklace - This has been my favorite purchase of the summer. The colors go with everything, and the magnetic clasp makes it incredibly easy to wear. Their drops sell quickly, so it's worth following them on Instagram (currently release new pieces every Friday at 12 PM ET).

2. Initial Necklace - I love these cheerful necklaces and wear two of them with the boys' initials. They're sweet, personal, and add just the right pop of sparkle to my everyday necklace stack.

3. Gold Link Chain Necklace - This is the foundation of my charm necklace and something I never take off. If you're looking for a similar style, I highly recommend browsing The RealReal, they have a great selection at a wide range of price points.

4. Silk Tie Necklace - A playful pop to add to any outfit!

5. Paracord Necklace - The color combinations are so good, and the paracord gives it a subtle nautical vibe that's especially perfect for summer. It's an easy way to add a little personality to a simple outfit.

   

My favorite five from a whirlwind week here:

1. A Stylish Raincoat - It finally rained! Since I was traveling for work, I needed something a little less sporty than my usual rain jacket, so I dug this gem out from the depths of my closet. I love how lightweight it is, and it's long enough to keep me dry even when I'm wearing a dress.

2. Life On The Run - Life on the Run is the latest release from Brandi Carlile, and once again, she doesn't disappoint. And ICYMI, her memoir is a must listen audiobook, but more on that here.

3. Another Excellent Oversized Button Up Shirt - In my opinion, you can never have too many button-downs. I found this one earlier this year at Hearth & Harrow in Camden, and I love the unique shade of blue. The fit is perfectly oversized and easy to dress up or down.

4. Classic Carbonara - Pasta is my favorite food, and this recipe with bucatini is a winner every time. It's simple, delicious, and quick enough for a weeknight dinner.

5. Ditch the Nail Salon Polish - I love the look of freshly painted nails, but salon manicures rarely survive my everyday life. Since moving to Maine and having kids, they never seem to last. This polish goes on smoothly, is easy to apply, and stays chip-free for days.

1. Party Pants - I can never resist a patterned pant, so I had to give these a try. They’re incredibly comfortable and easy to dress up with flats for work or keep casual with sandals. The fabric is perfect for now and will transition into fall with a cozy sweater. I love finding pieces that work across multiple seasons.

2. Whistler by Ann Patchet - I have yet to read an Ann Patchett book that I don't love, and Whistler was no exception. I'm a notoriously slow reader, but I flew through this one. Highly recommend!

3. Kids Shorts - My parents gave Jack these shorts for his birthday, and they've been such a win! The quick-dry fabric is great for summer, and the fun prints make them even better. If you're shopping at Lewis, you can use code CHARK15 for a discount.

4. Summer Watch - I’m always trying to find ways to spend less time on my tech, especially when I’m with the kids. 5. Salmon Roasted in Butter - Who doesn’t love butter? This salmon recipe was a huge hit and was happily devoured by everyone, ages 2 to 70. A big shoutout to my dad for continuing to find new recipes and cook for our crew night after night.

Spark Bagel - My brother-in-law’s bagel business! If you’re in the Camden area, his bakery is a must-stop for delicious breakfast sandwiches and freshly made bagels. You can also find his bagels at the Camden and Belfast farmers markets. @sparkbagel

Sydney Clapp Interiors - Based in Concord, Massachusetts, Sydney launched her own interior design studio after years working under famed designer Nina Farmer. She has exceptional taste, offers suggestions I never would have thought of, and I'm never not in awe of the finished project she produces. @sydneyclappinteriors

SZ Blockprints - Unlike the other companies featured here, Sarah of SZ Blockprints is someone I became friends with through her brand. I’ve loved their colorful, comfortable clothing for years and have gotten to know Sarah when she visits family in Maine each summer. Their clothing is what I live in all summer long. @szblockprints

Torrey Castle Shoes - A recently launched boat shoe company created by fellow sailors. Dave and I quickly decided these shoes were far too good to limit to time spent on the water and now wear them often as an everyday shoe. They’re incredibly comfortable, and I love the sleek white design. @torreycastleshoes

Here are my five finds from the week:

1. Sunglasses - These look like a high-end pair of sunglasses, but they cost less than $15. If you have kids, you know sunglasses have a way of disappearing or getting broken, so I never want to spend a fortune on them. This pair has become my go-to all summer

2. Wipes - I’m a bit of a clean freak, and having kids has definitely tested my ability to embrace a little mess. These wipes have become an absolute staple in our house, but especially in my car. The dispenser fits perfectly in a cup holder, so they're always within reach for diaper changes, sticky hands, or the inevitable snack spill. I buy the baby wipes, but they also make a Cleaning Essentials Starter Kit if you're looking for something geared toward everyday messes instead.

3. Tuna Niçoise Salad - It’s been unusually hot in Maine, and some nights turning on the oven doesn’t sound remotely appealing. My mother made us all this delicious niçoise salad and it was the perfect summer dinner - light, satisfying, and packed with fresh veggies and protein.

4. Apron - Our newly minted four year old is very into helping in the kitchen. Adorable but MESSY. This smock style apron is easy for him to put on and keeps him clean. And if your like me and want to match your little there’s an Adult Apron too.

5. New (to me) Music - We listen to The Grateful Dead or Dead & Company about 99% of the time at home. It’s what I grew up on, it’s easy listening, and somehow the whole family loves it. This summer, I’ve been making an effort to branch out a bit and mix in some new artists. My latest discovery is Sombr, and I’ve been loving the upbeat vibe for workouts, driving the boys to camp, and cooking dinner in the kitchen.

1. A Classic White T-Shirt - We all know Bombas for their viral socks, but their T-shirts are the real standout. They're lightweight, hold their shape wash after wash, and an easy staple to throw on with just about any outfit.

2. Burnout - Life is short, and I refuse to let it simply happen to me. I loved this podcast episode from Arthur Brooks on burnout. It prompted me to reevaluate my own work-life balance and think more intentionally about how I can recognize and manage feelings of burnout before they take over.

3. Initial Necklace - I'm loving these affordable initial necklaces for adding a little something extra to my summer necklace stack. I have two now (one for each kids initials), and I love the way they catch the light and sparkle in the sun.

4. Grilled Chicken Salad - An absolute winner of a recipe that I'll be making again and again this summer. It's perfect for a hot summer evening. A huge thank you to my mom for discovering this recipe and making it for me earlier this week.

5. Water Table - File this under things I swore I'd never, ever own. Is it hideous? Absolutely. But it has kept the boys entertained, happily playing together all week long, which makes it worth every inch of plastic. Bonus: it folds up easily, so it can be hidden in the garage when it's not in use.

1. The Bring Everywhere Blanket - A practical and cute blanket to keep at the end of the bed, in a kids' room, or stashed in the car. We've had ours for years, and this week alone we've used it on a chilly morning, for a boat ride, and a picnic with the kids. It's machine washable and as a bonus, it’s currently on sale.

2. A Happy Summer Dress - I could include SZ Blockprints in every edition of Take Five this summer because it’s what I live in. I love this pink mini dress to toss on, day or night. (Also, currently on sale.)

3. Summer Tunes - I rediscovered this album this week, and it's been a hit in our house. Our two year old loves music and does a little wiggle dance to every song, then claps and yells "yay!" when each one ends. Feel good summer tunes the whole family will enjoy.

4. Truly Fantastic Face Wash - The name says it all. Wipes away sunscreen, sweat, and grime from the day.

5. Kids Fishy Set - My love for this kids’ clothing company continues with this adorable shorts and T-shirt fit. I can’t resist a matching set, especially since I know my boys won’t let me dress them forever.

We spend a lot of time on the water and life jackets are non-negotiable, on the dock, on the pier, and on any boat.

A huge shoutout to my friend Caroline, whose family also lives by our ABB motto: Always Be Boating. She had kids before me and tested alllll the life jacket styles, saving me plenty of trial and error.

Life jackets aren’t cheap, but they’re essential. And if your kids are comfortable, they’ll be much happier spending time on the water.

• Infant Life Jacket - Designed for babies 9–25 pounds. Depending on when your baby is born, you may babywear that first summer, but once they're ready, get this life jacket so they don't hate boating from the start.

1. Mexican Street Corn Salad - A true crowd pleaser! This was easy to make, absolutely delicious and completely devoured. It’s the perfect dish to bring to a BBQ. I’ll be making it on repeat all summer long.

2. A Very Maine Sweater - My husband insists this new sweater of mine makes me look like a tourist in my home state. I disagree. I love it, it’s cozy, and I fully intend to wear it everywhere, all year long.

3. Bike Shorts to Live In - I’m happy to invest in quality pieces when they’re worth it, but for everyday shorts that can handle running, biking, chasing kids, walking, and boating, I’m all for an affordable dupe. I’ve been living in these shorts this week, perfect with a tee for casual days, or a button-down when I need to look a little more polished for virtual work calls.

4. Daily Hydration - I am in a constant state of dehydration these days. I haven’t loved any of the electrolyte powders I’ve tried in the past because they’re too sweet or have a weird aftertaste. I ordered these in the ginger turmeric flavor after a friend recommended them and am a big fan.

5. Pajamas for In and Out of the House - I am all for the new (is it actually new, or am I just noticing it now?) trend of pajamas that can also be worn out of the house. This set is a winner. Recommend sizing up as I find their pajamas run small.

1. Goe Body Oil - I got too much sun last weekend and was very happy to crack open this body oil I’d been saving for summer skin. It’s helped soothe my tender burn and left my skin feeling nice and soft. (FYI, a little bit goes a long way.)

2. Rhubarb Spoon Cake - The local rhubarb is in! A delicious summer treat that's easy to make and quite scrumptious. Toss in some local strawberries if they’re in season where you live and top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!

3. Beach Dress - I’ve entered the phase of motherhood where there is absolutely no sitting down, ever. This dress serves as my everyday dress for being out and about, and doubles as a beach cover-up that offers sun protection and a little warmth without feeling hefty. 5. Stain Spray - Our three year old has figured out how to open the fridge and help himself to the above mentioned local strawberries. I can’t really blame him because they’re delicious, but it has resulted in quite a few stained shirts. I continue to be amazed by this stain spray’s ability to remove them all.

1. Labels - Camp season is approaching and I have gone a little nuts labeling and organizing everything for my three-year-old's summer of camp. These labels are perfect for water bottles, lunchboxes, hats, and clothing, a total lifesaver for the hodgepodge of summer programs ahead.

2. A Comfortable & Happy Dress - Traveling for work this week, I was delighted to wear this dress for the first time. I love that it can be dressed up or down. I wore it with a blazer and flats to the office, then threw on sandals for dinner with friends. As with all SZ Blockprints, I recommend sizing down.

3. Morning Glory Muffins - While this recipe is technically for a bread, I opted to make muffins instead (just don't miss the recipe note on bake time) so they could go in the boys' lunchboxes all week. They disappeared by midweek and were enjoyed by all.

4. A Cute, Mom Friendly Bikini - I may still be dead of winter pale, but it was warm enough this week to take the boys to the beach after pickup. I was so happy to finally wear my new bikini, it’s comfortable, flattering, and perfect for chasing kids. The matching bottom can be found here.

5. Salt Scrub Shampoo - I am certainly not the first person to recommend this to you, but it really is just that good. This time of year my hair is full of sunscreen and sweat on a daily basis, and using this once a week makes a noticeable difference. It lifts the buildup from my thick hair and leaves it feeling clean and refreshed. A summer staple!

1. The Highwomen Live at the Gorge - The Highwomen's 2019 debut album has been a favorite since it was released. This week, a friend reached out after reading Brandi Carlile's book (more on that here) to share that the group had just released a live recording from the Gorge. I've had it on repeat ever since. So good, enjoy!

2. Mary Janes - I wasn't sure the trend was for me, so I opted for an affordable pair. Turns out, I've worn them almost every day this week. Since it's not quite sandal season here in Maine, they've been the perfect transitional shoe, comfortable and easy to pair with everything from jeans to dresses.

3. A Year Round Sweater - I own a lot of sweaters, but this one may be my favorite. It's the perfect weight for the dead of winter and equally useful on a chilly summer evening. The length is just right, too (why does everything seem to be cropped these days?).

4. Oprah Interviews the Co-Founders of Claude - Does it feel like you can't go anywhere without hearing about AI? Given how often it comes up in my own work, it's a topic I find myself discussing a lot. Oprah opens with a sharp question from Claude itself to its founders, and discusses the ethical questions that have come with such rapidly evolving technology.

5. Mini Brush - I’ve been on the go a lot lately and sometimes struggle to feel pulled together for meetings and events. This small but mighty hairbrush has quickly become my favorite purse companion. Worth noting: it’s oddly cheaper to buy this set than the brush on its own.

5. Plan a “no-responsibilities” day. Let him sleep in, take over all kid duties, and give him a few uninterrupted hours to do whatever he actually wants to do with zero judgement - read, work out, or just sit in silence with coffee.

Here are my five favorites from the past week

1. Flag Cake - I make this cake every MDW, and it’s always a crowd favorite. I love that the cake bakes right on a sheet pan, and the festive topping comes together so easily. Perfect for a backyard BBQ!

2. Oversized Button Down - I basically live in oversized button-downs. They’re comfortable, polished enough for long virtual workdays, and easy to dress up or down. This new one from SZ Blockprints is already shaping up to be a summer favorite. It’s crisp, lightweight, and such a cheerful print.

3. Baked Ham & Cheese Sliders - A friend always makes these for our summer beach picnics, and this past weekend I made them for the group staying with us. They are SO. DARN. GOOD. I can promise they’ll be an instant crowd-pleaser. And coming from someone who doesn’t typically even like ham, that’s saying something.

4. Croquet set - Such a silly game, but so much fun. I grew up playing croquet with my family and love bringing it back now for our kids. It’s the perfect cocktail-hour activity and an easy way to entertain all ages.

5. Picnic Dress - A nightgown that doubles as a dress? Yes, please. I love that this one is an instant outfit and looks great with just a simple pair of sandals. (One note: If Only If runs quite large, so I’d recommend sizing down!)

1. Family Friendly Sunscreen - Tis the season! I love keeping a big tub of this sunscreen in the mudroom all summer long so we can quickly lather everyone up before heading out the door. It’s gentle enough for the kids but still feels good on adults too, which means we don’t have to buy separate sunscreens.

2. Octopus Crewneck - One of my friends here in Maine is an artist who creates beautiful designs she screen prints onto clothing, and this Octopus Crewneck has become a favorite in our house. My three year old now insists that he and his little brother wear theirs on the same days, which I find adorable. They’d make a great gift for any ocean-loving kid!

3. Greek Chicken with Cucumber Feta Salad - This speedy recipe was a 10/10. We grilled the chicken, but I’m certain it would be just as delicious cooked in a cast iron skillet, as the recipe suggests. Shoutout to my husband, who made this for us on the first evening of the season that truly felt like summer earlier this week.

4. Air Dry Hair - I’ve hated my wavy hair for as long as I can remember and have had a very codependent relationship with my Dyson hair dryer. But with warmer weather and less time these days, I decided to try Crown Affair’s Air Dry cream. The hype is real! It makes my hair dry frizz-free and incredibly soft.

5. Sweater Shaver - I finally felt confident that it’s not going to snow again, so I washed and de-pilled all of my winter sweaters before storing them away for the summer. I use this detergent, wash on the gentle cycle, then lay the sweaters flat on towels to dry before going to town with this incredibly satisfying sweater shaver. It’s definitely a labor of love, but I really love my sweaters.

1. Plum Torte - A delicious, incredibly simple recipe that works well with whatever fruit you have on hand. You can easily substitute the plums with strawberries, apples, blackberries, or really anything in season. Pictured below!

2. Down Pullover - In typical spring fashion, it’s been slow to warm up these days, so it’s still pretty chilly on my early morning dog walks. This layer is warm enough to toss on over a t-shirt without the bulk of a traditional down jacket. It also comes in a men’s version. 3. Silicone Baking Sheet - I love making granola but hate the mess it can leave behind. 4. Lunchbox Muffins - These Lunchbox Muffins have become a staple in our house because not only are they easy to make and endlessly adaptable with whatever veggies you have, but the entire family inhales them.

5. Hair Clip - I have incredibly thick hair and prefer to wear it down, but some days it’s just not clean and ends up looking like a mop, so back it goes. I just got this red hair clip and it’s silly, but it brightened my day more than a few times this week!
