Clive Barnes Foundation 2025-2026 Honored Artists in Dance and Theatre

The Honorees are among the many outstanding young artists of promise in New York theatre and dance. This year, Patrick Gamble (Paul Taylor Dance Company), India Hobbs (GALLIM Dance) and Yoon Jung Seo (American Ballet Theatre) have been named Honored Artists in Dance, and Jasmine Amy Rogers (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,) Ben Levi Ross (Ragtime), and Sam Tutty Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) are the Honored Artists in Theatre. Marina Harss will receive the Clive Barnes Award for Achievement in Media and Journalism. The International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) is proud to continue the Black Art Fund for Dance, an initiative dedicated to supporting the creative process for individuals and organizations working within the dance ecosystem, rooted in their communities. This fund is made possible through a partnership with the Wallace Foundation’s Advancing Well-Being in the Arts Initiative, which champions small arts organizations (annual budgets under $500,000) founded by, for, and with communities of color.

Eligibility Criteria:
Current Membership: Applicants must be current members of The International Association of Blacks in Dance at the time of submission.
Residency: Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or hold permanent resident status in the United States due to the pilot nature of the program.

Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre Seeks Male Company Dancer

Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre is seeking athletic, modern male-identifying dancers with strong technique, creativity, and performance experience to join the company for the 2026-2027 season, which will include several small performances (through June), and a Full Premiere at New York Live Arts from March 11-13, 2027. Dancers should have excellent partnering skills and be eager to contribute creatively throughout the choreographic process.

New York Theatre Ballet (NYTB) has appointed Antonia Franceschi to the permanent position of Artistic Director.

Dancer, choreographer, writer, and director Franceschi began her early dance training in the Cecchetti method with Margaret Craske and studied at School of American Ballet. At the invitation of George Balanchine, she danced with New York City Ballet from 1981-1992. A Time Out (London) Award winner for Outstanding Achievement in Dance, Franceschi’s career in dance has spanned more than four decades. The American Guild of Musical Artists and Dallas Black Dance Theatre Announce First Collective Bargaining Agreement

With the agreement ratified by both organizations, AGMA has lifted its Do Not Work Order against DBDT

The American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) and Dallas Black Dance Theatre (DBDT) are proud to announce the ratification of the company’s first collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

In a written statement, the Dancers on the AGMA Negotiating Committee said: “We understand the significance of this moment and the path that brought us here. We’re proud to have negotiated a first contract that provides meaningful protections for today’s dancers while strengthening the company for those who will come after us.”

Founded in 1976 by Ann Williams, Dallas Black Dance Theatre is the oldest continuously operating professional dance company in Dallas and a nationally recognized institution celebrating the artistry and contributions of Black artists in dance. The agreement, ratified by the AGMA Board of Governors on August 10, lays a foundation for a stronger, more sustainable future for DBDT artists and the organization as a whole.

“This agreement starts the next chapter in the history of Dallas Black Dance Theatre,” said Richard A. Freeman, Jr., Artistic Director of DBDT and a former DBDT dancer. “I know firsthand what this company means to the artists who have dedicated themselves to its mission and legacy. As we approach our 50th anniversary season, it is important that we continue supporting our dancers as they thrive, both artistically and professionally.”

Sorzano Dance Works brings together works created across nearly a decade, moving through memory, rupture, survival, and the ways history is carried in and through the body. Rooted in Yusha-Marie Sorzano’s Afro-Caribbean heritage and expansive movement practice, the evening asks what we inherit, what we hold—and what we might transform as we imagine a world anew. “An internationally seasoned and recognized dancer and teacher, Pat Hall continually refines her artistry, which is influenced by African and Caribbean Dance, New York City’s 1980’s Midtown Dance scene and Downtown Postmodernism as well her international touring. In her classes she has always maintained multiple live percussionists, a tradition she is dedicated to carrying forth. She dances her heart out to the language of the drums, teaching others to appreciate this symbiosis, passing her innovative methods onto her students.

New Dance Alliance Announces 2026-27 Black Artists Space to Create Resident Artists

The selected artists for its 2026-27 Black Artists Space to Create (BASC) artists-in-residence are Claude “CJ” Johnson, Elyse Morris, and André M. Zachery. Each artist will receive a one-week residency with unlimited access to a dance studio and full living space at Arts on Site R&R in Kerhonkson, NY, as well as a $2,000 stipend. The residency is designed as both a retreat and a space to create without the pressure of developing a new project. DANCE/USA ANNOUNCES END OF THE DANCE/USA FELLOWSHIPS TO ARTISTS PROGRAM

The Dance/USA Fellowships to Artists (DFA) program will conclude following the end of its current and third round in October 2026. Created in 2018, the DFA program honors dance and movement-based artists with sustained practices in art for social change, and has awarded 86 Artist Fellows from across the United States and its territories. The Round Three Artist Fellows were announced in November 2025, and this cohort will be the final one of the program. The DFA program has been made possible with generous, multi-year support from the Doris Duke Foundation, which will conclude at the end of 2026. Dance/USA has been working in partnership with the Doris Duke Foundation for nearly two decades, a collaboration that has fueled major field initiatives, such as Engaging Dance Audiences (EDA) and DFA. How to Show Work?

Open Performance artists are selected through a lottery system. Artists are invited to use this platform to share their work or ideas at any stage of development. It should not, however, be a finished work as the program is intended to support the creative process. Shared material should be limited to 12 minutes or less. Artists will share the evening with two to three other artists.

The Toni Pierce-Sands Choreographic Initiative honors the vision and legacy of TU Dance’s late Founder and Artistic Director, Toni Pierce-Sands, by nurturing the next generation of choreographic voices. Designed for emerging to mid‑career artists, the initiative supports choreographers interested in experimentation, research, and the creation of new 10–15 minute ensemble works for the full CULTIVATE, A Trainee Program (between 6-10 dancers), or for TU Dance Company projects.

The choreographer selected for the 2026-2027 Season will be creating for CULTIVATE, A Trainee Program in the November/December 2026 schedule.

The summer season is titled “Momentary Reprise.” The program will include the duet Actus, Childs will perform a new adaptation of Geranium ’64 (1965), Field Dance 2 an ensemble piece staged in special tribute to Robert Wilson (1941–2025), excerpted from Wilson’s Einstein on the Beach, and Distant Figure, a new work with music by Philip Glass. Open Performance lottery entry form will close at 5:00pm on Friday, July 31, 2026.

How to Show Work?
Open Performance artists are selected through a lottery system. Artists are invited to use this platform to share their work or ideas at any stage of development. It should not, however, be a finished work as the program is intended to support the creative process. Shared material should be limited to 12 minutes or less. Artists will share the evening with two to three other artists.

Concept: An odyssey through New York, a dream-like journey through the city. A group of people, at first disconnected, join together through ethereal moment, finding strength in connection on a single city street, where strangers pass every day. Highlighting that each person has their own unique story and struggles.

Interested in a career behind the curtain? HAA’s Behind the Scenes Program offers FREE skills-building workshops paired with real-world practicums designed to introduce BIPOC and female talent (18+) to afoundational skills in a range of arts operations careers.

Led by accomplished industry professionals and community leaders, participants will gain practical knowledge, hands-on experience, and valuable professional connections in marketing, nonprofit operations, filmmaking, event producing and stage management, while exploring career paths that are often overlooked by those seeking to work in the arts.

The Joyce Theater Foundation
Awarded $6 Million Capital Grant

by the New York State Council on the Arts

The grant will support a major capital renovation of the New York Center for Creativity & Dance (NYCC&D), the Joyce’s 58,000-square-foot East Village facility dedicated to the creation, development, and advancement of dance. This furthers the Joyce’s vision of creating a permanent home where artists can rehearse, collaborate, experiment, and develop new work. Located at 287 East 10th Street adjacent to Tompkins Square Park, NYCC&D is one of the largest facilities in New York City dedicated to the needs of dance artists and arts makers. Housed in the former Boys’ Club of New York, a historic seven-story building originally constructed in 1901, NYCC&D provides critically needed space for rehearsal, creative development, and educational programs serving artists working across a broad range of dance forms and disciplines.
