It’s been a SWELTERING week here in Los Angeles. There’s actual humidity (which makes me feel like I should have just stayed on the East Coast if I wanted this, but I digress), and it’s pretty BAD. We were at like Florida levels yesterday. I know it’s been hot across the country, so I hope y’all are staying cool.

I’ve been home for most of the month, catching up with friends, going to the gym, going to the movies with Mr. Thomas (movies are BACK, y’all!), and of course, PODDING. Like I mentioned last time, I’m watching the Premier League for the first time, and it just started last week. I’m still trying to wrap my head around everything. There are so many teams, so many dynamics, so it’s a lot. What made me really happy was Hull City’s win. They were in the lower league since 2017, finally made it back, and beat Manchester United. That’s a big deal! Their mascot is a tiger, and I watched these grown men cheer and make cat-attack motions with their hands. It was delightful!

We wanted to thank our VIP Sarangees for joining our first-ever Sofa Sessions on the 13th. We met everyone and chatted for almost two hours! We love meeting y’all and can’t wait to do more of these!

👀 What I’m Watching Now…

Spooky in Love - I started watching the first episode the other night because Dulcé mentioned she was watching it. We’re both huge fans of Park Eun-bin. This girl has so much range, and I feel like she’s at the Park Min-young level of working ALL THE TIME. She’s always in something. The plot is pretty enticing: a chaebol heiress can see ghosts and is solving unsolved murders with a cute prosecutor. It’s basically mashing true crime with K-drama tropes (which, who doesn’t love). Is it just me or is the male lead Yang Se-jong a hybrid of Go Kyung-pyo and Yoon Shi-yoon?! I like it so far, so I’ll keep y’all posted on my thoughts.

July was the busiest month I have had in a long time. I was on the road EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND since my birthday. 3 headlining weekends and 1 weekend opening for Tiffany Haddish in Phoenix. Don’t get me wrong, this was truly a blessing, but I am truly exhausted. I got to take last weekend off, but I am back on the road this weekend in Minneapolis at The Parkway Theater for one night only, Friday 8/14.

Kang Ha-Ri (Ha Yoon-Kyung) is an aspiring lawyer who dreams of working for a major law firm, We Partners, but, in reality, she works part-time at that law firm’s free consultation counter and becomes involved with Park Hae-Kang.

It’s been a pretty slow July given the busy June I had! I’m super sad the World Cup is over (that final game was NUTS), and now I’m jumping on the bandwagon and planning to watch the Premier League. I’ve selected my two top teams: Crystal Palace and Liverpool. Palace, because I love rooting for up-and-coming teams, and I also found out Ted Lasso’s Richmond team is based on them! Liverpool because I want to watch the Champions League. I’m also planning to go see the pride of Korea, Son Heung-min, or Sonny, play with LAFC.

Better Late Than Single 2 - One of our Sarangees in the comments asked if we watched Korean dating shows and mentioned this one, so I decided to give it a whirl. I did get into Singles Inferno for a hot second, but really couldn’t finish it. This one though?? Really enjoying it, since it’s about 모태솔로s (aka people who’ve never dated). Honestly, the best thing about these Korean dating shows is the celebrity panel, and I love this one because they’re also actively coaching the contestants. I’ll watch this one to the end.

I had an amazing Birthday! I was recovering from my fibroid embolization surgery, so I wanted to have a small Paint Party with my friends. Chrissy came, and we had a time! My birthday is July 4th, so if you don’t wanna celebrate America, then celebrate my birth! Happy IndepenDulcé Day! 😊

As I mentioned last time, June has been a PACKED month. I’ve been out and about traveling and seeing friends, and honestly? It’s been so therapeutic.

At the top of June, I was in Austin for my friend Laura’s 40th birthday. She threw the CLASSIEST bash at her new home, and then took us to Lockhart, the BBQ capital of Texas, where we hit up several spots. So good. I also just got back from a joint 40th birthday celebration weekend in SF and Napa. We went shopping and had delicious food and wine. We stayed at the same place we stayed 10 years ago…which is CRAZY!

And the birthday celebrations aren’t done yet! Dulcé’s birthday is tomorrow, and she’s hosting a crafting party at her place.

Also, I’ve been OBSESSED with the World Cup. So disappointed Korea didn’t make it to the Round of 32. My dad was planning to fly out, so it’s such a bummer how it all played out. Oh well…we have 2030!

Cabo Verde is playing Argentina later today, and I am rooting for CB SO hard!

Agent Kim Reactivated - Y’all, this show jumped from 9.8% to 15.9% in viewership in ONE episode! Korea is loving this show, and I can understand why! So Ji-sub was my ALL TIME FAVORITE K-drama crush growing up. I’m obsessed with him, Gong Yoo, Park Seo-joon, hottie soccer player Cho Gue-sung, and I guess now Heo Nam-jun, but I digress…I understand why this show’s popular. It’s been described as Taken in a K-drama form, but with ajusshis. So Ji-sub plays Manager Kim, a doting dad, bank employee, seemingly normal guy.

Phantom Lawyer - A quirky and heartwarming adventure in which the ghost-seeing lawyer Sin I-Rang and the elite lawyer Han Na-Hyeon resolve the injustices of very special clients through the law. These "special clients" are none other than ghosts, and as the two lawyers uncover the truth behind their cases.

Sin I-Rang, a lawyer who began his practice in a former shaman's house and started seeing ghosts. Despite his dependable appearance, I-Rang is actually timid and clumsy. However, in the presence of a ghostly client with a tragic backstory, he reveals an unexpectedly strong determination. When he’s "possessed," he becomes temporarily overtaken by the traits of the client he’s trying to help, which leads to dramatic personality changes.

Happy June, y’all! Hope everyone’s having an amazing start to the summer: fun trips planned, sunshine on deck, and most importantly, a STACKED K-drama watch list. The last batch of dramas has been solid, and I need this streak to carry straight through the summer.

Most of my friends are Geminis turning 40 this year, so June is packed. I’m heading to Austin to celebrate one of my oldest friends, and then a group of us are doing San Francisco and Napa for a girls’ trip. On top of that, World Cup is coming up, and my parents are heading to Mexico to watch Korea play, AND we’re in the middle of the NBA Finals right now. I’m so happy for the Knicks, and I wish I was in NYC right now! What. A. Time.

Dulcé and I are having the BEST time with Unnies React, and we hope y’all are loving it as much as we are. My Royal Nemesis is so much fun, and honestly, I think it’s going to end up in my top 5 dramas of all time. Rewatching The Glory has been bringing me LIFE. For a show that dark, it’s almost too entertaining. I feel like I’m watching it for the first time!

We’re also starting to think about our next drama chase, so stay tuned. Like last time, we’ll be running a poll for our Sarangees to help us pick. There are some fan favorites, like Crash Landing on You, and I heard Lovely Runner is joining Netflix. Or do we go old school with a classic like My Lovely Sam-Soon? Filing For Love - I’m super behind, and it’s been SO tough dodging spoilers online!! I’m at the part where we find out In-na was in a relationship with Jae-yeol, which came completely out of nowhere for me! I just assumed the focus would be on the relationship between Jae-yeol and his assistant, Ah-jeong. But now that I think about it, it makes sense — I kept wondering why Kim Jae-wook would take such a minor second lead role, and now I get it! Either way, both men are absolutely gorgeous, so I’m excited to see where this goes.

👀 What I’m Watching Now…

Black Ops - Now y’all know that I don’t watch shows about black people selling drugs and doing crime, BUT this is a British comedy, and those I will watch. And technically, they are undercover police officers and not actual career criminals, so it doesn’t count 😆 Set in London, the show follows the story of Dom and Kay, who join the Met Police in the hope of cleaning up their community but are unwittingly thrust into the murky world of deep cover infiltration as they become part of a powerful criminal enterprise. The thing that I loved about the show is that I got to see the similarities in Black American culture and Black British culture, especially when dealing with family elders and church culture.

So sorry for the delay with this week’s newsletter! I got back from London late Wednesday night, wasn’t feeling too hot, and ended up sleeping basically all of Thursday away. Woke up this morning at 2:30am LA time, have been in and out of sleep since, and I’m just hoping I feel better soon. We’ll see how long I last today…

The trip was so much fun! It was wonderful going back to Paris and London with Thomas and his mom. We explored, ate our way through everything, and took a lot of photos (all credit to Mr. Thomas!). We even got to spend a day in Oxford (what a magical college town), where we had what I can only describe as the best sandwich of our lives. Shoutout to Najar’s!

On the drama front, though…I managed to watch a bunch of new shows on this trip, and this current lineup is pretty INCREDIBLE! I haven’t been this excited about what’s airing in a long time. So this week, instead of our usual “K-Drama Rewind,” I’m doing an extended “What I’m Watching Now” and breaking down my favorites. Let’s get into it!

Filing for Love - OMG, this is GOOD. Like, REALLY good. I had high hopes going in since Shin Hye-sun is such a powerhouse, and the premise looked like such a fun office drama. I’ve always felt like she shines brightest in comedic roles like Mr. Queen versus her heavier work like The Art of Sarah (which I still need to start). This one does not disappoint!
