In the 15 years that Ive been working in higher education Ive grown to have an affinity for the underserved; non traditional student; the student that is in need of a second chance. This includes but isn't limited to your: GED recipients; mature, working students; caregivers; first gens; international students; and neurodivergent students. The one thing that has become evident during my time in higher education, is that each student has a variety needs that go far beyond the traditional classroom setting. In order to approach this one must first: assess for access. Hence ensuring a level playing field for all. Secondly, one must look at each individual student holistically and tailor the processes, systems, coursework, events, etc to ensure the needs (unemployment, food insecurity, homelessness, mental health challenges, etc) the students are being addressed. In my sincere opinion if the external factors are addressed, then the student has a fair chance at success. Obviously, success can be viewed in many ways from earning a 4.0 to graduating OR securing employment in one's area of expertise, but ultimately, it is success.

I plan to do some self-care and then have some family time. I try to practice self-care a couple times a week to refuel my mind and body and well, family time is essential at least once a week.
