This weekend, they met for the preseason finale.

Those are the faces of two very proud parents!

It’s not looking good for Josh Jacobs. The NFL placed the Packers running back on the commissioner exempt list, the league announced Sunday. That means Jacobs can’t practice or play while on the list, and only commissioner Roger Goodell can remove him from it.

The NFL has not yet determined a suspension for Jacobs, who was formally charged with misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property on Thursday stemming from an alleged altercation at his home on May 23.

Jacobs can’t even attend games, according to the NFL, “but upon request and with the club’s permission, he may be present at the club’s facility on a reasonable basis for meetings, individual workouts, therapy and rehabilitation and other permitted non-football activities.”

The NFL is reviewing the matter involving Jacobs, who was charged with two misdemeanor counts of battery and criminal damage to property.

Jacobs will not count against the initial 53-man roster, which explains the Packers’ trade for Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kaleb Johnson earlier Sunday.

The Packers will now rely on MarShawn Lloyd to be their No. 1 running back while Jacobs is sidelined. Lloyd, a 2024 third-round pick out of USC, has played in only one game over his first two seasons due to a litany of injuries. He hasn’t missed any time this summer, though, and he’s the most explosive running back the Packers have.

Here’s what general manager Brian Gutekunst said Wednesday when asked if he felt Green Bay’s running back room could withstand a potential Jacobs suspension:

“I’m pretty confident we can sustain it, but it doesn’t mean we wouldn’t do that (add another running back). Yeah, we’ll deal with that when that comes, but we’ve obviously prepared for (a suspension) in case that happens, but, at the same time, I feel really good about the guys we’ve got in that room, and I think we can survive that.”

The Packers also have running back Chris Brooks, who should begin the season as Green Bay’s backup at the position behind Lloyd.

“After Jeff Hafley took Miami's head-coaching job, Green Bay hired Jonathan Gannon as its new defensive coordinator,” they wrote. “Given Gannon's tendency to run a three-man front far more often than Hafley, the Packers suddenly had a screaming need at the nose.”

“Consequently, Brian Gutekunst traded up on Day 2 of the draft to land McClellan. Standing 6-4 and 313 pounds with 11-inch meat hooks for hands, McClellan cuts an imposing figure. And he's not just a space-eater, either, having posted six sacks last season to go along with 48 tackles (eight for loss).”

Chris wasn’t picked until the 3rd round, 77th overall, so his inclusion on this list is a big deal!

GO MARSHAWN GO 🥳 CBS Sports made one player prediction for every team headed into the new season — and MarShawn having a breakout year was theirs for the Packers!

Here’s what they said ⤵️

When the Packers spent a third-round pick on Lloyd in 2024, they were hoping to get a valuable complement to Josh Jacobs, who had just signed a huge contract in free agency to be their starter.

But two years into his NFL career, the Packers have yet to see the same player they saw at USC.

Lloyd appeared in just one game as a rookie, missing the rest of the year and all of the 2025 season due to injury.

Finally back to full strength, hopes are high that Lloyd can finally deliver on his potential. Talent has never been the issue, and Lloyd has a three-down skill set with big-play ability on the ground and through the air. Jacobs was arrested in May on domestic violence charges, and an investigation is still ongoing. If Jacobs misses any time as a result, Lloyd would be in line to replace him as the starter.

His lawsuit claims multiple, anti-gay Moms of Liberty school board members and their allies pushed him out of the job because of his sexual orientation.

The suit alleges that board members faked complaints about his performance and accused him of “grooming children,” among other false allegations.

“Peterson’s reputation has been severely injured by the actions of the Defendants,” the complaint states. “The Defendants and their proxies fabricated a pretext to fire Peterson based on his sexual orientation.”

Peterson was an educator for over 30 years when he was terminated. He’d received a mayoral proclamation for his work, and had been selected as a Wisconsin Principal of the Year.

He couldn’t find work for a year after the termination, according to the complaint.

“If Mr. Peterson wasn’t gay, then this discrimination from the board would not be happening,” Peterson’s attorney, Ben Hitchcock Cross, said in 2023.

Peterson has been in a relationship with his partner for decades. His sexuality was only known to close friends and family, and the complaint says he informed his employers to find out about insurance benefits for his partner.

After his sexuality was known, the complaint alleges that the school board members, who held anti-LGBTQ+ views, conspired to terminate Peterson from his job.

What was Trump up to this weekend⁉️ In between rounds of golf, he was ordering more than 60 historic cherry trees to be chopped down on a beloved D.C. course — which he’s personally renovating.

A few problems with this:

1. He hasn’t been officially given permission to begin renovating the golf course. In fact, he was actually ordered NOT to by a federal judge back in May.

2. His administration hasn’t released any design plans, construction schedule, or budget for the golf course.

3. WHY IS HE FOCUSED ON A F#CKING GOLF COURSE?! WE’RE AT WAR!!!!!

Also Trump: 156 of his first 583 days back in office included a visit to one of his own golf clubs — roughly one out of every four days.

DREAMS DO COME TRUE 💭 Nine years ago, a 9-year-old from Oconomowoc wrote a letter to JJ Watt with a simple request: meet him at Starbucks.

That meeting finally happened — just not at Starbucks.

That “little boy,” Isaac Miller, is now a senior defensive end at Catholic Memorial and a Wisconsin Badgers commit. He crossed paths with his childhood idol outside Roots in downtown Oconomowoc while preparing for his final high school season!

"When I walked over to him, I literally started shaking. I was like, 'This is crazy,'" Isaac told WTMJ. "He told me it's great to have me on board. He welcomed me in and said one thing: 'What you give to the state... they're gonna give back to you.'"

Afterwards, Isaac posted about their meeting online, and also shared that original note he wrote as a 9-year-old:

"Dear JJ, my name is Isaac. I live in Wisconsin. I play football, baseball and basketball. I'm nine years old. My dad played in the NFL. His position was D-end. I make a lot of sacks. I have five sisters and three brothers. Next time you're home, I would like to meet you at Starbucks."

(Isaac had also included $20 in the letter to support Watt's hurricane relief efforts.)

But here’s the coolest part: THIS time, Watt wrote back:

“I have a feeling you've already made your sisters and three brothers very proud, but there are even bigger things ahead in your future," he wrote.

THE STORIES JUST KEEP COMING 📖 Former Dollywood employee Aaron Crisler was a nobody when he asked his “boss” to record a duet with him.

He’d been hired as a performer at her amusement park in the early 2000s while trying to “make it” in the music business.

Years later, when he was recording a solo project, he decided to take a chance and approach Dolly about recording a duet with him, even though he was an unknown artist.

“I recorded a solo project and I had the crazy idea to ask Dolly Parton to sing on it with me,” he said. “I told some friends of mine and they're like, ‘You are crazy. She's not going to sing on your solo project.’ I was like, Well, I sang at Dollywood. She knows who I am. We talked a few times. I mean, the Bible says you have not because you asked not, so why not ask?”

A couple weeks later, Aaron got a note in the mail…

It was from Dolly 🥹

“Dear Aaron, I have just been going through my mail that has piled up and came across your letter,” she wrote.

“I'm honored that you want to sing one of my songs. If it's not too late, hopefully I can make time to sing on it with you. Stay in touch with Teresa, my assistant, and we'll try to work it into my schedule.

GREAT NEWS ❤️ After nearly a decade of planning and construction, the UW officially opened its brand new, $285 million indoor football practice facility this week — the largest project in Wisconsin athletic history.

A few things to know…

🏈 The Kellner Family Athletic Center sits next to Camp Randall Stadium along Monroe Street.

🏈 It houses a 120-yard turf field and 300-meter training track.

🏈 The new Camp Randall Veterans Memorial Plaza includes plaques and displays that detail Camp Randall’s long history. (Thousands of troops trained at the site during the Civil War.)

🏈 A new parking garage beneath the facility offers 250 spaces. It will eventually provide 325 spaces, and suite holders can use the garage on game days.

🏈 Outside the new facility, the athletics department found a new home for commemorative bricks purchased by Badgers fans, which were displaced by the construction. The bricks are now displayed outside Kellner Hall near Gate 1.

The Kellner Family Athletic Center is named after alums Ted and Mary Kellner and their family, who gave $20 million to the project. (Ted Kellner founded Fiduciary Management Inc. and Fiduciary Real Estate Development in Milwaukee. Mary Kellner worked as a guidance counselor for the Mequon-Thiensville School District.)

The $285 million project was funded by $120 million in bonding through the state, $115 million in fundraising and athletics program revenue, and $50 million from the state.

WHAT’S NEXT⁉️ The athletics department is now tearing down the McClain Center to build a second phase of the project, which is expected to be completed in spring 2028: a student-athlete support facility, with locker rooms, a weight room, sports medicine, and a dining center!

MORE GREAT NEWS ❤️ The nationally-renowned Wisconsin track program FINALLY has somewhere to practice again!

After the athletics department tore down the aging Camp Randall Sports Center, commonly referred to as “the Shell,” in fall 2024 to make way for the new football facility — many track and field supporters raised concerns about the new facility’s design, like the fact it won’t be able to accommodate all the events that make up track and field, among other issues.

Chris Solinsky, director of track and field and cross-country, says that is NO LONGER a concern!

The new Kellner Center has a pit for long jumps, space for vertical jumps, and areas for throwing events. It also includes a red 300-meter track that’s suspended around the circumference of the field. It ranges from three to five lanes and includes a 120-meter straightaway, which can fit 10 hurdles.

“We are actually incredibly excited about this facility,” Solinsky told The Cap Times. “I know there was talk about whether it was viable. This is a phenomenal place for us to train at a high level all year-round.”

COMING SOON TO CAMP RANDALL 🌭 Wisconsin just unveiled its new foods for the upcoming football season — and the headliners are SEVEN new hot dogs, each one themed for the team the Badgers are playing that day!

The Badger Dog, a footlong hot dog smothered in a beer cheese sauce with hot pepper relish, will be available at every home game. Six other hot dogs will rotate, depending on who the Badgers play.

But here’s the coolest part: Fans can vote for their favorite hot dog in a "battle of the dogs" competition!

The Western Illinois University hot dog, for example, is covered in pulled pork. Eastern Michigan has chili. Michigan State features pepper jack cheese with pepper relish. The University of Southern California hot dog is smoked with bacon jam. Rutgers is covered in french fries, beef gravy and smoked brisket. Minnesota has cheese curds, brisket and a classic poutine flavor.

The Badgers kick off their season against Notre Dame at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Sept. 6. The first home game at Camp Randall is Sept. 12 against Western Illinois!

This week, Trump renamed Lake Ontario Lake America as part of a temper tantrum over a trade deal with Canada he calls “unfair”… even though HE HIMSELF negotiated said deal back in 2020.

Trump supporters are trying to justify Trump’s petulant renaming of Lake Ontario by comparing it to Obama’s renaming of Mount McKinley to Denali.

IT’S NOT THE SAME 🏔️ AT. ALL. ❌

The push to rename North America’s tallest mountain started way back in 1975, when Obama was 14, when the Alaskan government officially recognized Denali as its name and requested that the mountain be officially recognized as Denali by the federal government, as it was still the common name used in the state and was traditional among Alaska Native peoples.

This change action was repeatedly blocked by members of the congressional delegation from Ohio, the home state of President McKinley.

Then, in August 2015, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell officially changed the name to Denali in all federal documents just ahead of President Obama’s historic visit to Alaska.

The Obama administration's change was met with immediate criticism from Republican representatives from Ohio — but praise from pretty much everyone else

Over the next decade, everyone was okay with the name change… until Trump was reelected and — just after pardoning 1,600 insurrectionists — signed Executive Order 14172 on DAT ONE reinstating"Mount McKinley" again being used for federal purposes.

Both the state’s senators rejected the decision and the Alaskan government continues to recognize the mountain's official name as "Denali,” as it has since 1975.

By comparison, Trump renamed Lake Ontario as part of a temper tantrum about the “unfair” Canadian trade deal HE HIMSELF negotiated in 2020.

Not the same. At all.

"I'm sure some of you want to know why I wanted a truck stop. Well, I couldn't leave it to beavers," the music legend quipped, laughing with the crowd. "I had to throw my squirrely little self in there."

Parton appeared to be poking fun at Buc-ees, the chain of travel centers with Bucky Beaver as a mascot. She wore an all-purple look during the appearance, and cut a ceremonial purple ribbon 💜

"We're not trying to compete with anybody, we don't think we'll have to," she continued. "We think we're gonna have everything that you want or need."

Classic Dolly!

Dolly’s store features Parton-themed merch and sells cups of Ambition Coffee, the late musician's coffee brand inspired by her iconic song "9 to 5."

In 1988, Dolly Parton noticed high school dropout rates in her Tennessee hometown reaching a staggering 35%. Instead of standing by, she decided to take matters into her own hands… 💖

Through her foundation, Dolly launched the “Buddy Program."

She called an assembly of 7th and 8th graders in Sevier County and made them a deal: if they paired up with a buddy and both successfully graduated from high school, she would personally hand each student a $500 cash check on graduation day.

At a time when $500 was a massive fortune to a teenager, the motivation was undeniable. But more than the money, it gave young kids a tangible goal and a partner to keep them accountable.

The results? Absolute magic.

The high school dropout rate in Sevier County instantly plummeted from 35% to just 6% — sending generations of students into the world with diplomas, pride, and a $500 check from Dolly Parton.

WHEN AMERICA WAS GREAT 🇺🇸 People like Dolly Parton were honored at the Kennedy Center by presidents who didn’t try to knock it down OR slap their name on it 💖

Dolly may have turned down the Presidential Medal of Freedom — but she accepted the country’s highest arts award in 2006.

At the ceremony, Shania Twain delivered a heartfelt rendition of "Coat of Many Colors".

Vince Gill performed a soul-stirring version of "I Will Always Love You".

And Reba McEntire gave a touching speech sharing memories of Parton.

The Bushes were the hosts that night, and did a lovely job. Not ONCE did they demand it be called the Bush-Kennedy Center! 😉

MAGA has spent much of the last year telling women who don’t have kids they don’t matter as much as women who do “because they don’t have a direct stake in our future.” That’s a direct quote from our current VP.

Dolly Parton proved them wrong.

She was childfree by choice — but kids were still huge part of her life:

“I didn’t have children because I believed that God didn’t mean for me to have kids so everybody’s kids could be mine,” she said in a 2020 episode of “The Oprah Conversation.”

“[Without kids of my own,] I could do things like Imagination Library,” Parton continued, referencing her nonprofit that mails free books to school-aged children. “If I hadn’t had the freedom to work, I wouldn’t have done all the things I’ve done. I wouldn’t be in a position to do all of the things I’m doing now.”

In 1986, Parton founded the Dollywood Foundation, which aims to inspire educational success and reduce high-school dropout rates. Imagination Library was created in honor of Parton’s father, who never learned to read or write.

Parton’s philanthropy over the years also included raising money for the American Red Cross, HIV/AIDS-related charities and wildlife preservation. She was also a generous donor to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and to Hurricane Helene relief efforts.

In addition to her charitable efforts, Parton was generous with her many nieces and nephews.

“The older [Carl and I] get, the gladder we are that we don’t have [kids] now, because we take care of a lot of other people’s kids. We buy new cars for all the nieces and nephews that graduate, we send any to college that want to go,” she told Rolling Stone in 2003.

Parton was also the godmother of singer Miley Cyrus.

“I’ve known her since she was a baby,” Parton said of Cyrus, now 33, in a 2009 interview with ABC News. “I’m so proud of her, love her. And she’s just like one of my own.”

If you have to have kids of your own to care about kids — you’re doing life wrong.

While the kids were in CHURCH.

In the span of 2 minutes, 34 seconds — a shooter killed two children, wounded 27 other people with gunfire, and left dozens more with shards of glass and other debris in their skin.

And he left Jessie and Mollie without a son.

And NOTHING has changed.

If you say it’s “mental health” — fund it.

If you say it’s “better security” — fund it.

Whatever “it” is — DO it.

Jessie and Mollie are waiting.

Mollie and Jesse spent their 12th wedding anniversary at their 8-year-old son’s funeral.

The couple had rushed to Annunciation School in Minneapolis right after the shooting last August. They found their fifth grader, Milo, and second grader, Hazel; their 3-year-old, Rory, was safe with Mollie's mom.

They watched relieved parents take kids home. Hours passed.

A paramedic asked them for a picture of their third grader. People who knew where Fletcher was saw them, said nothing. Then, when they were effectively alone in the gym, some half-dozen first responders and school staff walked out a door and toward them.

“He's gone,” a trauma specialist told the Merkels.

Taken by ambulance, his mom presumed, for medical care.

“Well, what hospital?” Mollie asked.

“Mollie,” he said, “Fletcher is dead.”

The Merkels learned Fletcher’s body was all but alone in the church. Mollie tried at least three times to go to him. Police held her back.

Fletcher had been their messy, dirty kid who just didn't care if there was stuff on his clothes or his face, even as he proclaimed when he returned last summer from his first stint at sleepaway camp: “I showered every day!”

Now, his mom found his hand, focused on his arm freckles and did that thing they always did:

Squeeze it three times — “I love you” — and then, squeeze it four — “I love you, too.”

With sparkly blue eyes under a mop of wiry, blond hair that bobbed a foot above his classmates, Fletcher had been his friends' glue, ensuring no one got left out of flag football or hikes or songwriting for Alien Blood, the four-kid rock band with a repertoire of 10-second singles, including one for his crush, “Violet Star.”

Those same classmates, with Fletcher’s cousins — dressed in bright colors, like the Merkels had requested — soon were lining up as his pallbearers.

At the funeral, a cantor standing near the casket sang Fletcher’s favorite single. Jesse Merkel had never really listened to the lyrics, which — with their nods to “angels up in the clouds” and the day “we're dead and buried” and the plea, “Oh, Lord, return me to dust” — seemed an odd choice for an 8-year-old.

Are we “great” yet⁉️

We see the shooting. The vigils. The far-too-short push for SOMETHING to change. And then, it’s over — for everyone except the victims, until now… 💔

😂 Referencing a report about Trump gaining weight, Jelly Roll pointed out his own recent 300-pound weight loss: "That means I've lost an entire Donald Trump! It seems like most of the country wants to do the same thing!”

😂 He sarcastically noted that people shouldn't tease Trump about his weight because Trump would "never do that to other people," before airing a montage of Trump mocking others' appearances and concluding, "If that ain't the pot calling the kettle fat... from one fat pig to another, take it from me that physical fitness is very important."

😂 And then there was this gem: “Now let’s be honest for a second, any U.S. president should be able to handle a few jokes, right?They should also be able to handle gas prices, health care, and the occasional international conflict, but beggars can’t be choosers.”

Killing it, Jelly!

OF COURSE the most hated American had to make the death of the most adored American about himself — claiming “she really liked me.”

Dolly Parton once entered a Dolly Parton lookalike contest... and lost! 🤯

Back in 2012, Dolly was in Los Angeles and heard about a drag queen contest at a local gay bar to see who could look the most like the country legend.

She thought it would be hilarious to crash it…

She didn't tell anyone who she was. She just over-exaggerated her makeup and walked onto the stage.

She expected the crowd to recognize her INSTANTLY!

Instead... she got polite clapping.

The judges looked at her and thought she was just a really short, terrible drag queen.

She didn't just lose first place.

She didn't even place!

Dolly later laughed about it, saying in an interview: "They just thought I looked like a cheap imitation of myself."

PACKERS > BREWERS 📺 Jacob Misiorowski got a quick lesson in the Wisconsin sports hierarchy after his start last Friday…

After the game, “Miz” returned to the locker room, understandably assuming that he would be surrounded by a gaggle of reporters eager to talk to the best pitcher on the best team in baseball. However, whatever he was expecting, the horde of media members failed to live up to it…

“This is it?” he asked in a video by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Curt Hogg.

“Packers play today,” responded Hogg.

“Aha,” replied a nodding Misiorowski. “There it is.”

Indeed, the Green Bay Packers played a preseason exhibition game against the Denver Broncos at Mile High on Friday night. And presumably, some of the reporters who might have been on hand to see the Brewers become the first MLB team to win 80 games this season were instead covering the NFL game.

There was much gnashing of teeth in the comments and quotes of Hogg’s X post, and understandably so. And it’s hard to imagine that the Brewers will lack for local media attention once the playoffs get underway.

But this is probably a good reminder that, as always, for fans and media outlets alike, nothing moves the needle like the NFL. And that’s especially true when you’re talking about a franchise like the Packers 💚💛

MEET JONATHAN 💙 Jonathan just completed every baseball super fan’s bucket list — 30 ballparks in 30 days — but HIS journey wasn’t done for fun… it was for a very important and emotional reason…

Jonathan’s son Jasper drowned in his family’s pool just shy of his 2nd birthday. The family left him with a trusted babysitter and he fell into their pool. He was gone in minutes.

Jasper’s death was preventable, as most drownings are, so Jonathan committed the rest of his life to educating other parents, so they never have to deal with loss like him ❤️‍🩹

And so, Jonathan traveled to all 30 ballparks in 30 days to share his son’s story and promote water safety through education, advocacy, and community partnerships.

By collaborating with local nonprofits, hospitals, first responders, swim schools, and aquatic professionals, he connected families across the country with lifesaving resources, expanded access to swim education, and raised awareness about drowning prevention.

But I want to leave you with a little bit about Jasper, so we can keep his memory alive: Jasper loved letters, Legos, chasing games, and making everyone around him laugh. He had an adventurous spirit, a contagious smile, and a personality much bigger than his little frame.

He won’t ever make it to all 30 ballparks, but his dad did, in his memory 🙏🏽

Wearing a shirt designed to provoke, Kanter Freedom rose from his seat, spread his arms, and stepped toward the court as security and players moved between them.

He continued gesturing toward his shirt while arena staff walked him out.

This spectacle arrives after weeks of Kanter Freedom mocking transgender inclusion and declaring himself eligible for the WNBA draft — a deeply unserious stunt aimed at turning women's basketball into another stage for right-wing grievance politics.

The routine has become painfully familiar: manufacture a controversy, bait the people targeted by it, then package their reaction as proof that you were the victim all along.

It generates clips, clicks, and invitations to complain on conservative media.

Meanwhile, the women who built this league are expected to absorb the hostility with a smile and keep playing.

Women's sports deserve investment, packed arenas, fair pay, strong youth programs, quality facilities, and coverage that treats elite athletes like elite athletes.

A former NBA player arriving in a shirt to antagonize women at their workplace contributes exactly ZERO to any of those goals.

“Protect women” by degrading everything they worked for?

Loser behavior.

THIS IS NATASHA CLOUD — the WNBA player that sad, failed NBA player tried to bully.

“JUST CALL IT LAKE NATALIE” 🔥 Rep. Debbie Dingell took a jab at Trump over his threat to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America amid his trade war with Canada, saying the U.S. should “just call it Lake Natalie” after the woman he’s probably having an affair with 😆

Dingell shared a screenshot of Trump’s threat — that the U.S. was “giving serious consideration” to changing the name of one of the Great Lakes.

“Let’s just call it Lake Natalie so we know you’ll start protecting our Great Lakes,” she wrote.

The president’s threat mirrors his executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America... which literally NO ONE follows 🤪

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is doubling down on his support for our northern neighbor, saying Canada is one of his state’s biggest trading partners, and he “plans to keep it that way.”

Her fortune sits somewhere around $650 million dollars — built on records, Dollywood, and a song catalog that includes some of the most valuable writing in country music.

By most estimates she would have crossed into ten figures LONG ago… IF she had kept it all.

Instead, she keeps giving it back.

💖 After the 2016 wildfires near her Tennessee home, her My People Fund sent a thousand dollars a month to every family that had lost a house, for six months, close to nine million dollars in all.

💖 In 2020 she quietly gave a million dollars to Vanderbilt for virus research, and her name later turned up in the footnotes of the study behind the Moderna covid vaccine.

💖 The center of Dolly’s philanthropy is the Imagination Library, which she started in 1995 because her own father never learned to read or write. It mails a free book every month to any enrolled child, from birth until they start school. In October 2025 the program passed three hundred million books. It’s now sending out more than three million a month across five countries!

President Obama has one regret from his 8 years in office: not giving Dolly Parton the Presidential Medal of Freedom 🎖️

"That's a mistake," Obama admitted, when Stephen Colbert asked why one of America’s greatest philanthropists hadn’t received the country’s highest civilian honor back in 2020. “I'm shocked."

"Looking back at your eight years, do you realize the mistake you made?" Colbert asked with a laugh.

"Actually, that was a screwup," Obama replied. "I'm surprised. I think I assumed that she had already gotten one, and that was incorrect."

He added, "She deserves one. I'll call Biden."

The Medal of Freedom is bestowed by the president "to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."

Over the course of his presidency, Obama gave the Medal of Freedom to dozens of public figures and musicians including Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Gloria Estefan, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, and Loretta Lynn.

Today, Parton is as well known for her two Grammy Awards and 25 number one singles as she is her “Imagination Library,” Dollywood, and the $1 million donation she gave to help fund the development of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The "Jolene" singer was previously honored with the National Medal of Arts in 2005 and Kennedy Center Honors in 2006— but no Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“I DON’T DO POLITICS,” Dolly Parton has famously said. “I have too many fans on both sides of the fence. Of course, I have my opinion, but I learned years ago to keep my mouth shut about things.”

While she may have kept her mouth shut, Dolly’s ACTIONS have spoken for her — and it’s crystal clear where she stands 💙

Whether she likes the word or not, Parton’s feminist credentials are clear, from her shattering of the “dumb blonde” stereotypes that led her to early mockery (“This dumb blonde is nobody’s fool,” she sang on the opening track of her debut album in 1966), to her pioneering fights to maintain ownership of her music and lyrics.

She’s donated millions to Aids research and was an early advocate for gay marriage and trans rights, and has also used her incredible wealth to give back.

Dollywood, her official theme park, is the largest employer in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, near where she was born, and it has pumped millions into the local economy.

Through her Imagination Library charity, more than 100 million books have been sent in the post to hundreds of thousands of children under the age of five in countries worldwide.

In 2020, she donated a million dollars to research into a vaccine for Covid-19 — and it worked!

Parton has also told Billboard magazine that she supports Black Lives Matter (“Do we think our little white asses are the only ones that matter?” she asked).

In 2018, she removed the use of the word “Dixie” from an attraction at Dollywood citing its confederate origins. “As soon as you realise that [something] is a problem, you fix it,” Parton explained. “Don’t be a dumbass. That’s where my heart is. I would never dream of hurting anybody on purpose.”

Parton’s politics don’t exist in binaries. She is not a Democrat, nor a Republican, but “a Dolly party,” according to her — an ideology based on what is just or right, rooted in compassion, the sharing of wealth, and helping wherever help is needed.

But for someone who regularly claims that she doesn’t “do” politics, Dolly Parton is more political than most.

SHE’S A WOMAN OF HER WORD ❌🇺🇸 Dolly Parton SAYS she “doesn’t do politics,” so when both Trump AND Biden offered her the Presidential Medal of Freedom — she turned it down.

That’s right: Dolly has actually passed on America’s highest civilian honor THREE times. Trump offered it to her TWICE!

“Well, I actually have to be honest in all fairness. I got offered the freedom award from the Trump administration and I couldn't accept it because my husband was ill," the singer said during an early 2021 interview on Today With Hoda and Jenna. "Then they asked me again about it and I wouldn't travel because of COVID, so now I feel like if I take it I'll be doing politics."

In the same interview, Parton said that the recognition would be "a nice compliment for people to think that I might deserve it," but adds, "I don't work for those awards. It'd be nice, but I'm not sure that I even deserve it."

Together with her late husband, Simon K. Chen, Rosemary and her late husband Simon were two of the UW-Madison’s most generous donors 🥰

Rosemary’s life with Simon began in 1948, while aboard a ship bound from China to the United States. Smitten from the start, Simon told his sister that Rosemary was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen (and that he had just fourteen days to woo her). As both pursued their own studies, their connection strengthened, leading to their marriage in 1952, the same year Simon graduated UW–Madison with a PhD in mechanical engineering.

A diesel engine design expert, Simon built a distinguished engineering career and later went on to teach and mentor students as an adjunct faculty member in UW–Madison. Rosemary earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Barat College in Lake Forest, IL, and worked at UW–Madison’s McArdle Cancer Research Lab while Simon was in school. After raising their four children—Margaret, Lillian, Vivian, and Victor—she worked for Simon’s consulting firm, Power Energy International.

Central to Simon and Rosemary’s shared life was a strong commitment to preserving Chinese culture and fostering a deeper appreciation for Chinese art in Wisconsin. Together, they gave the Chazen Art Museum a landmark collection of 125 works, dating from 1692 to 1996, now known as the Simon & Rosemary Chen Family Collection.

The Chens also donated to UW–Madison’s Kohler Art Library more than 200 rare books and serials on Chinese art, acquired during travels to Taiwan in the 1970s and mainland China in the 1980s.

Her legacy will live on — and is proof immigrants are our greatest assets ❤️

A MAN WITHOUT A PARTY ❤️‍🩹 Perhaps the greatest speaker of the 2024 Democratic National Convention wasn’t a Democrat at all, but six-term REPUBLICAN Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who took the stage 2 years ago this week.

“The Republican Party is no longer conservative. It has switched its allegiance — from the principles that gave it purpose to a man whose only purpose is himself,” he said.

“Donald Trump is a weak man pretending to be strong. He is a small man pretending to be big, He’s a faithless man pretending to be righteous. He’s a perpetrator who can’t stop playing the victim,” Kinzinger continued. “He … puts on quite a show. But there’s no real strength there.”

Even though they once were on opposite ends of the political spectrum, members of Illinois’ congressional delegation praised Kinzinger for speaking his conscience… even if it’s meant becoming a pariah in a big swath of the GOP.

“I can’t thank him enough for his courage, for his steadfastness, his support for democracy and his principles. I’m so grateful to him,” U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky said.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Sean Casten respects that courage, too, and said the Trump-led GOP’s response to Kinzinger is truly grievous.

“To my mind, the tragedy of Adam Kinzinger is that by voting to defend democracy, he was excommunicated from his own party,” Casten said.

A TOUGH, BUT IMPORTANT, STORY ❤️‍🩹

While MAGA is focused on forcing women to give birth, they’ve been awfully quiet about this case: former Kentucky cheerleader Laken Snelling, who pleaded guilty this week to killing her newborn baby by depriving him of oxygen and then stuffing his body in a trash bag in her closet.

In court, the 22-year-old said she was under "a lot of emotional stress," the baby came unexpectedly, and instead of helping him — she ended his life, cleaned up, and told no one.

She admitted to manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and concealing the birth.

Prosecutors are recommending more than a decade in prison.

Now, I’m already seeing concerning number of comments online asking: “What choice did she have?”

Unfortunately, abortion IS illegal in Kentucky right now, BUT there are COUNTLESS other options besides MURDER.

She could have taken the baby to a safe haven box, a fire station, a hospital, a police station, or even a church.

She also could’ve gone out-of-state for an abortion.

She had options — and she chose murder.

But also unfortunate is this: we will likely only see more cases like Laken’s as Republicans try to make abortion illegal in every state.

Can anyone explain to me why the National Guard is standing around, twiddling their thumbs in Washington D.C. when they could be in Gary Indiana, Puerto Rico, or Hawaii helping people that have been without power and water for over a week⁉️

Trump’s nonsensical D.C. mission is projected to cost $1.4 billion through 2029.

MEANWHILE…

❤️‍🩹 Gary, Indiana has been devastated since deadly storms began August 11. Winds hit 99 mph, power lines and trees came down, schools were forced to close, and tens of thousands have spent more than a week without electricity-searching for hot meals, phone chargers, air conditioning, and somewhere to keep food from rotting. Power may not be fully restored in some parts of Gary until next week.

❤️‍🩹 Hawaii was battered by Tropical Storm Lala, leaving roughly 100,000 homes and businesses without power at one point. The storm brought hurricane-force winds, flooding, and enough bizarre climate chaos to drop snow on Mauna Kea. Because apparently a tropical system making a Hawaiian volcano snowy is not dramatic enough to interrupt the Strongman Cosplay Tour.

❤️‍🩹 And Puerto Rico is in the middle of a severe drought and water crisis, with hundreds of thousands of people facing rotating 48-hour shutoffs-often longer. Water is not a luxury. It is not a partisan reward. It is the bare minimum required to survive.

But — instead of sending the National Guard to ANY of these places — Trump is paying troops to stand around his own backyard and do, quite literally, NOTHING.

We deserve better.

They deserve better.

Ethel was born in the United Kingdom on Aug. 21, 1909, when Charles' great-great grandfather, Edward VII, was king.

She was named by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest living person last year, after Brazilian nun Inah Canabarro Lucas died at the age of 116.

Badger fans are letting their wallets do the talking 💵 According to a report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's John Steppe, Wisconsin sold 47,587 season tickets for the 2026 football season — down 13.1 percent from 54,780 season tickets in 2025.

In addition, Steppe reported that the biggest drop in sales came from standard tickets in the seating bowl, which tell from 38,084 to 31,190, marking an 18.1 percent decrease.

Additionally, premium ticket sales fell 8.5 percent.

That has marked a pretty sharp decline in back-to-back years for ticket sales, with sales dropping 7.8 percent ahead of the 2025 season following Wisconsin's 5-7 campaign in 2024.

That comes amid some major changes for the Badgers this season, as they reportedly spent over $25 million on the team's roster, adding pieces at nearly every position in the transfer portal, including Old Dominion transfer quarterback Colton Joseph.

Hopefully it pays off and the fans come back.

CNN reports the Navy is weighing a change to the USS Doris Miller, named for Doris “Dorie" Miller, who helped wounded sailors and manned an anti-aircraft gun during the 1941 attack despite serving in a segregated military that had largely confined Black sailors to service roles.

The twist that makes it even harder to ignore: the ship was originally named for Miller during Trump's first term.

Now, sources say officials have discussed renaming the carrier for Trump instead — something NO OTHER PRESIDENT HAS EVER DONE.

Because we’ve never been led by such a self-absorbed narcissist.

The Navy may honor Miller on another ship, but that still raises the obvious question: why should a Black war hero have to surrender one of the military's highest-profile honors in the first place?

WHO IS MILLER⁉️ Doris "Dorie" Miller was a U.S. Navy sailor who was the first black recipient of the Navy Cross and a nominee for the Medal of Honor.

As a mess attendant second class aboard the battleship USS West Virginia, Miller helped carry wounded sailors to safety during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He then operated an anti-aircraft gun and — despite no prior training in gunnery — officially shot down one plane (according to Navy Department records), but Miller and other eyewitnesses claimed a range of four to six!

Miller received the Navy Cross from Admiral Chester Nimitz on May 27, 1942, but many sailors and naval officers believed that Miller's heroism deserved a Medal of Honor. Miller was nominated for a Medal of Honor by a congressman from Michigan and a senator from New York, and the black press enthusiastically campaigned for Miller to receive this decoration.

Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox, who opposed black sailors serving the United States in any combat role, recommended against Miller receiving the Medal of Honor. No black sailor, soldier, or Marine was awarded the Medal of Honor between 1941 and 1945, and in 1996 Vernon J. Baker was the only black veteran of World War II to be awarded the decoration while still alive.

In June 1943, Miller was promoted to cook petty officer, third class. In November 1943, he was killed in action when his ship was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine during the Battle of Makin in the Gilbert Islands, with the loss of 702 officers and sailors — the deadliest sinking of a carrier in the history of the United States Navy.

NOT BACKING DOWN 💪🏾 Rep. Joyce Beatty filed an emergency motion late Thursday — asking a federal judge to stop the trustees of the Kennedy Center from putting Trump's name back on the front of the arts complex.

She also asked the judge to stop the trustees' plan to rename the physical site of the center the "President Donald J. Trump Plaza."

If the board's plan moves forward in full, Trump's name would appear on the entryway sign TWICE — AND would appear on a third location on the grounds.

"It's deja vu all over again," Beatty's lawyers wrote to Judge Christopher Cooper in their argument, saying that only Congress can change the name of the center, which by Congressional mandate is a living memorial to President John F. Kennedy. "Now, in a new and breathtaking act of defiance of Congress and of this Court, Defendants have voted to return President Trump's name to the Kennedy Center's facade. This time, Trump's name will appear on the building's front portico not once, but twice."

The signage proposed by the center's board, most of whose members were appointed by the president, would eventually read: "The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts, Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump, Endowed by the Trump Kennedy Center Fund." The last line would be added if the fund reaches $100 million in donations. Additionally, the board is seeking to rename the physical grounds of the arts center "President Donald J. Trump Plaza."

In May, Judge Cooper ruled that the board's previous attempt to rename the arts institution as the Trump-Kennedy Center was unlawful, writing: "The Kennedy Center's organic statute makes crystal clear that the Center is to be named for President Kennedy, and it cannot bear any other formal name or public memorial based on the Board's unilateral say-so. Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it."

That decision came down thanks to Beatty, who sued 👏🏾

SICK 💔 Trump just deported more than 160 people to Haiti for the first time since he won a legal battle to end Temporary Protected Status for some 350,000 Haitians WHOSE HOME COUNTRY IS STILL NOT SAFE TO RETURN TO!!!

The plane landed in the northern Haitian city of Cap-Haitien because the main international airport in Port-au-Prince is considered too dangerous. The U.S. government currently has a ban on U.S. commercial flights to Haiti’s capital through early September because of ongoing gang violence.

The deportees were clad in white, and many covered their faces out of safety as journalists filmed their arrival. Nearly all declined to talk, with some fearing being targeted by gangs that control an estimated 70% of Port-au-Prince and swaths of land beyond.

The deportees included TPS holders and Haitians who had served prison sentences, said Jean Négot Bonheur Delva, director general of Haiti’s National Office of Migration.

“It is not the Haitian state that asks for them to be sent back,” he said. “Our mission is to welcome migrants of forced return. … We welcome them with the aim of accompanying them to their home.”

Delva noted that some of the deportees were not born in Haiti, although they are of Haitian descent.

He said that several deportees planned to travel to Haiti’s southern region, a dangerous journey because gangs control the main routes leading to that area and are known to randomly open fire on vehicles passing through.

Immigration officials in Haiti on Thursday offered deportees a maximum of $65 and something to drink and eat.

Citing the Bureau of Land Management, The New York Times reported that the number of wild horses that the government sold in 2025 more than DOUBLED to 3,700 after Trump took office that January.

NYT‘s report suggests that some wild horses are being sold to questionable buyers for as little as $25 before being resold and exported to Canada, where they end up in slaughter plants. This comes after the industry was shut down in the U.S. in 2007. Horses are extremely profitable as they can fetch up to $750 at a slaughter plant, per NYT.

FEAR THE BOW 😤 One best stories to come out of this week’s Little League World Series is a little girl and her big bow 💖

Kinley Rasmus made history as just the 25th girl to ever compete in the tournament and the first girl since Mo’ne Davis in 2014 to record eight strikeouts in a Little League World Series game during Phenix City’s 2-0 loss to Washington. She allowed just one hit during her time on the mound before moving to shortstop, where she made a run-saving catch.

But her story goes deeper than that, and if her last name sounds familiar, well, that’s because she’s the daughter of former major leaguer Cory Rasmus, who pitched 84 games between the Braves and Angels!

The coach of the Phenix City team is also her uncle, Case Rasmus, who played four seasons in the minor leagues.

“It’s just so amazing. Just the opportunity is so great, it’s going to be such a blast,” Rasmus told ESPN before her first pitching appearance in the Little League World Series on Wednesday.

Rasmus has worn a big white bow in her hair during her games and she and her teammates had coined the phrase “Fear the Bow,” which seems quite fitting for how teams will be feeling going up against her.

“When I hear people say that it, it just brings joy to me,” she said. “Knowing that they’ve got my back and everything I do on the field and it just gives me so much excitement.”

“For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us. His limited, narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hard-working, highly educated, successful people who happen to be Black,” Obama said.

But the First Lady wasn’t done…

She also turned the tables on him by using the term “affirmative action” – a phrase normally applied to government-mandated racial quota schemes, much criticised by rightwing Republicans – to allude to the former president’s inherited wealth as the son of a successful property magnate.

Praising Harris, she said: “She understands that most of us will never be afforded the grace of failing forward. We will never benefit from the affirmative action of generational wealth.”

In another delicate sideswipe, she appeared to parody the former president’s famous descent down a golden escalator in Trump Tower in 2015 to launch an earlier presidential campaign, by referring to the obstacles many Black and other Americans encounter in their everyday lives.

“If we see a mountain in front of us, we don’t expect there to be an escalator waiting to take us to the top,” Obama said.

She even gave a passing nod to her own previous “we go high” statement – made in a speech at the 2016 Democratic convention – by casting Trump as insignificant and suggesting his approach was to “go small”.

“Going small is never the answer,” she said. “Small is petty, it’s unhealthy and, quite frankly, it’s unpresidential.”

TWO YEARS AGO TONIGHT — President Obama also took the stage at the 2024 DNC as the self-proclaimed “only person stupid enough to speak after Michelle Obama” 😆

Then, he gave a speech that brought the United Center down ⤵️

“I’m feeling hopeful because this convention has always been pretty good to kids with funny names who believe in a country where anything is possible,” he said. “Because we have the chance to elect someone who’s spent her entire life trying to give people the same chances America gave her. Someone who sees you and hears you and will get up every single day and fight for you: the next President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris.”

Then, he did a little reflecting — and praised his “brother,” Joe Biden…

“It’s been sixteen years since I had the honor of accepting this party’s nomination for president. I know it’s hard to believe since I haven’t aged a bit, but it’s true. And looking back, I can say without question that my first big decision as your nominee turned out to be one of my best — and that was asking Joe Biden to serve by my side as Vice President.”

“Now, other than some common Irish blood, Joe and I come from different backgrounds. But we became brothers. And as we worked together for eight sometimes pretty tough years, what I came to admire most about Joe wasn’t just his smarts, his experience, it was his empathy and his decency and his hard-earned resiliency, his unshakable belief that everyone in this country deserves a fair shot.”

DID THE PRESIDENT JUST MAKE A D*CK JOKE⁉️ Also in his speech, Obama did THIS (above) — and the internet IMMEDIATELY caught his drift! 😝

After a comment about Trump’s "weird obsession with crowd sizes,” Obama used a pinched hand gesture that many viewers and media outlets widely interpreted as a double entendre.

Because it was.

Brilliant! 👏🏾

One other story I want to share from today:

Hundreds of Lindsay Clancy supporters, many wearing pink clothing with phrases like “Believe,” “She Needed Help” and “Peace For Lindsay,” lined up outside the courthouse where she is on trial.

Let’s be clear: They’re not supporting a murderer.

They’re standing by a woman who clearly NEEDED help, ASKED for it, and was repeatedly denied said help.

Several of the 300 women, and a few men, said Clancy’s story resonated with them and that they wanted to raise awareness about how the mental health system treats women.

Clancy’s own lawyer doesn’t dispute that she killed her children, but says she should not be held criminally responsible because she was mentally ill.

Make it a great night!

But that’s not why I’m sharing this.

The question she was asking by the way is one we all SHOULD know the answer to: whether North Korean leader Kim Jong Un suggested Trump should cancel our drills with South Korea.

But that’s not ACTUALLY the question that set the president off…

He was still fuming from Holmes’ earlier question about Natalie Harp — the woman many speculate he’s having an affair with.

But, back to the subject at hand: As a journalist, I can’t imagine just sitting there and watching an American president attack the free press. As a person I can’t either.

MEET KRISTEN 🎤 Kristen Holmes is just the latest subject of Trump’s female journalist-directed temper tantrums — so let’s give her the respect she DESERVES!

Kristen is CNN’s Senior Correspondent.

She’s covered Donald Trump extensively, including his presidential campaigns, White House activities, and Republican politics. She was promoted to Senior White House Correspondent in January 2025 after years covering the administration and national politics.

Kristen has an INCREDIBLY impressive resume:

✅ She earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University in 2009.

✅ She later completed a Master of Science in Broadcast Journalism and Documentary Filmmaking at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in 2012.

✅ According to her LinkedIn, Holmes joined CNN in 2012 as an associate producer for Piers Morgan Tonight.

✅ Over the next decade, she served as a producer, White House producer, CNN Newsource correspondent, and national correspondent before assuming her current role.

✅ Her reporting has included the White House, Capitol Hill, federal agencies, the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare policy, and Republican presidential campaigns.

✅ Holmes also worked as a weekend reporter for NewsChannel 8 in the Washington area before she started her journey at CNN. She also worked as a production assistant on a PBS Frontline documentary produced by Mead Street Films.

✅ Earlier in her career, she was a Teach For America corps member and taught third- and fifth-grade students in Chicago for two years.

So — since she has experience dealing with humans prone to throwing tantrums — we’re especially lucky to have her in THIS White House 😉
