I used to dream of this.

I was shooting content for Mazda (the car brand- yes they gave me a car for my vacation to shoot🤩), which is still a little surreal to say. I spent the weekend creating content, driving around, taking photos and videos, and doing the thing I’ve spent years building my career around. And then, because apparently the universe needed to add a little chaos to the story, I broke my iPhone. Not a cute little crack in the screen. I mean, I actually broke it. like i couldn’t even see my screen… Luckily, Apple is one of my brand partners so they sent me a brand-new phone for free no questions asked(more on that below!).

So there I was: shooting content for Mazda, getting a brand-new iPhone, and having one of those very surreal “pinch me” moments where I realized how much my life has changed because I decided to start creating content on the internet. — i mean hellooooo i’m just a random girl who is getting to work with DREAM BRANDS all because I started posting content to social media and knew the strategy to attract these brands as well!

And the funny thing is, none of this happened because I had some perfectly mapped-out five-year plan (GOD NO.) I am the least “planning” person like actually ever….

It started much more simply. I started taking photos. I started making videos. I started sharing the places I was going, the things I was buying, the hotels I was staying at, the products I genuinely loved, and the lifestyle I was building for myself. I started treating my social media less like a personal scrapbook and more like a place where I could create something. And you can too!!

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" I felt things deeply. Sometimes I couldn’t even explain why something bothered me—I just knew that something felt off.

My body would know before my brain had the words for it.

For a long time, I thought this was something I needed to grow out of. I needed to be stronger.

Now, at 34, I see it completely differently.

My sensitivity is one of the things I trust most about myself.

I can walk into a room and immediately sense when something feels different. I can tell when a relationship, opportunity, environment, or decision isn’t sitting right with me. I notice when my body contracts around something, even if logically everything looks “right” on paper.

And I’ve learned not to immediately override that feeling.

Because I think there’s something we miss when we talk about creating your dream life.

Your body is constantly giving you information.

We get signals all day long. A feeling in your stomach. A sense of excitement. Resistance. Relief. Dread. Curiosity. Energy. Exhaustion.

The goal isn’t to become less emotional or less sensitive.

The goal is to learn how to read yourself.

Because when you can actually recognize your signals, you can start making decisions based on what is true for you instead of what you think you’re supposed to want.

And honestly? I think this is one of the biggest advantages a sensitive person can have when creating a life by design.

I’ve gotten much more protective of my energy as I’ve gotten older. I don’t want to spend my days in environments that constantly make my body feel stressed. I don’t want to force relationships that feel wrong. I don’t want to take opportunities simply because they look impressive from the outside.

Yes, I recognize that I have the privilege of having choices. But I also think there’s something powerful about deciding that how your life feels matters just as much as how it looks.

How to actually use your sensitivity as a superpower

The rest of this article is for my inner circle, paid subscribers, who are so ready to build their dream life and career by design & to finally understand how to use your sensitivity as a superpower!!

Thank Hawaii, Sri Lanka, Costa Rica, Seychelles, california, New York. The list goes on… (and my exact strategy on HOW i do this is below…)

join my inner circle paid community of women creating their dream lifeLearning how to make $$ from content creation with my exact tips, strategy and frameworks! To get this exact framework.

(for less $ than my workout smoothie!!😂)

Subscribe now

One of the biggest things I could share is to stop asking “how can I post a piece of content and get a free hotel room” and ask yourself “what service can you provide for the hotel that they need? “

Because your value as a creator isn’t just your follower count. In fact, you can do this with LITERALLY ZERO FOLLOWERS… It’s your ability to create beautiful content, tell a story, reach an audience, and give a business assets they can actually use.

You don’t need a million followers

This is especially important if you’re newer to content creation.

A hotel doesn’t necessarily need someone with 500K followers. They might need someone who can come in, create 10 beautiful pieces of content, and give their team assets they can use for social. THAT’S IT. nothing noted about follower count!!

That’s a content creation pitch, not an influencer pitch.

And understanding that distinction can completely change how you approach brands.

✨ FOR MY INNER CIRCLE, PAID SUBSCRIBERS — HERE’S THE ACTUAL STRATEGY👇

If you want to actually start doing this, this is where I’d focus.

Inside the paid section, I’m breaking down exactly how I would plan and pitch a hotel trip, including who I reach out to, how I find the right contacts, what I actually say in the pitch, how I decide what to ask for, how I negotiate deliverables and usage, when I pitch for payment vs. a hosted stay, my follow-up strategy, and how I structure the content so one trip can create multiple revenue opportunities.

I’ll also give you my actual pitching framework + examples so you can adapt it for your own upcoming trips.

Because the goal isn’t to become really good at asking for free stuff.

It’s to build a creator business that helps fund the life you already want to live.

And THAT is the good stuff. 🤍

Same.

Because today, August 20, 2026, I’m sitting here reflecting on the fact that I am officially making enough money through content creation to call this my full-time job.

And wow. That feels really freaking surreal to say.

Not because it happened overnight. Very much the opposite.

I’ve been creating content in some form since I was probably 12 years old. I’ve been posting on social media on and off for the past 14 years. I’ve watched this industry evolve from blurry Instagram photos and “brand ambassador” programs to full-blown creator economies, influencer agencies, usage rights, paid ads, whitelisting, UGC, retainers, subscriptions, digital products…the list goes on.

I’ve negotiated four- and five-figure brand deals. I’ve negotiated six-figure brand contracts. I’ve created content for brands big and small. I’ve seen the behind-the-scenes of this industry from the creator side and the marketing side.

And yet…

A year ago, I still wasn’t running my content creation business in the way I am today.

Which is honestly the part I find the most fascinating.

Because I had the skills.

I had the experience.

I had the audience.

I had proof that people would pay me.

But I didn’t yet have a business model that actually supported the life and income I wanted to create.

And THAT changed everything.

JOIN THE INNER CIRCLE

Because loving something and building a sustainable business around it are two very different things

For a long time, my content creation income looked something like this:

Brand emails me.

“Hey Christy! We’d love for you to create 1–4 pieces of content.”

We negotiate.

We talk deliverables.

We negotiate usage rights.

Maybe paid usage.

Maybe exclusivity.

Maybe revisions.

Maybe seventeen emails back and forth because apparently agreeing on a 30-second video requires a congressional hearing.

Then I create the content.

I get paid.

Amazing!

And don’t get me wrong, brand deals can be incredible. I still love them. I still do them.

But the problem was that my income often felt like I was starting from zero again every single month.

I was constantly asking:

What’s coming in next?

Who is going to book me?

How many brand deals can I land this month?

Is this going to be a $15,000 month or a “cool, guess we’re eating the random freezer food” month?

Okay, slight exaggeration.

But you get it.

I was making money from content. But I wasn’t necessarily building the kind of predictable, sustainable business that I knew I wanted.

And I think this is an important distinction because there are SO many ways to make money as a creator.

You can make money from:

Brand partnerships

UGC

Affiliate income

Ad revenue

Digital products

Courses

Memberships

Social media management

Consulting

Photography and videography

Speaking

Licensing your content

Paid usage

Retainers

And approximately 47 other things because apparently we are all just making up job titles on the internet now 😂

The question isn’t, “How do I make money creating content?”

The question is:

What business model actually works for ME?

And that was the shift I started making over the last year.

The shift: I stopped waiting for one-off opportunities and started thinking about recurring revenue (in a different way!!)

Let’s talk about the time I looked at my perfectly respectable, good-on-paper, “wow you’re so lucky to have that job” career but my gut knew better - I was so disconnected from myself something had to change..

Not in a dramatic breakdown, throw-my-laptop-in-the-ocean kind of way (although, I dreamt of doing that lol ). More like a slow, nagging, gut-level this isn’t it that I ignored for way longer than I’d like to admit, because I am nothing if not stubborn and mildly allergic to admitting I’m unhappy AND if we’re being honest.. we’re always taught to “push through”.

Here’s the thing nobody tells you about your early thirties: you’ve spent your whole twenties doing things like you “should”. Good job? Got it. Title bump? The apartment, the LinkedIn headline, the “so what do you do?” answer that makes people nod approvingly at parties(this one KILLS ME)? And then one day you’re sitting there with your “life looks good on paper” and you think... wait, do I even like my life/ career?

That was me. Fully credentialed. Fully “successful.” Fully miserable in a way I couldn’t quite explain to anyone without sounding ungrateful, which, side note, is such a trap women get put in. “But you have so much to be grateful for.” Cool, yes, and also I would like to not spend my one wild life in a job that makes my soul feel like a Monday. Both things are true!

So I did the deeply irresponsible, wildly unrecommended, absolutely-do-not-put-this-on-a-LinkedIn-career-advice-post thing: I listened to my gut instead of my resume. At 33. An age where, according to literally every societal script I’d absorbed since birth, I was supposed to be settling in, not starting over.

Spoiler: I started over anyway. And I have some thoughts about what that actually takes — not the highlight-reel version, the real one — for my inner circle below. Because the pretty Instagram caption version of “I followed my dreams!” leaves out basically all of the useful parts, the fairytale is only a fairytale without the blueprint..

The rest of this one’s for my paid subscribers — where I get into what actually broke first (it wasn’t my job, it was something else entirely), the very unglamorous gut-check system I still use every time I’m scared to make a move, and the exact tool I use to audit my life so I stop white-knuckling big decisions and start making them like I actually trust myself. Come join my inner circle - i’d love to see you there :)

Doors feel closer. Ideas hit different. The gap between “someday” and “now” gets a little thinner.

I don’t think that’s a coincidence, and I don’t think it’s magic either. I think it’s permission. A moment on the calendar that gives you an excuse to stop waiting for the version of your life you keep saying you want “eventually.”

So here’s what we’re going to dive into today — a real, 30-day framework for using this window to actually build the identity of the person who has the life and career you keep picturing. Not vision-boarding it. Not journaling about it once and hoping. Building it, on purpose, day by day.

This isn’t about hustling harder or overhauling your whole life overnight. It’s about one shift that changes everything else: you don’t attract the dream life by wanting it more. You attract it by becoming, in small daily proof, the person who already has it.

Below, I’m walking through the exact four-part method I use — with the real steps, the identity work, and the day-by-day structure — for my paid subscribers!!! This is the same framework underneath everything I’ve built for myself from changing careers, moving cross country etc.. and it’s the one I wish someone had handed me back when I was in college soooo freaking lost on what i wanted to do with my life…

The rest of this article — the full 30-day identity framework — is for paid subscribers only. If you’re ready to stop circling your dream life and start living inside it, this is where we start.

When the GOAL was more time, financial and location FREEDOM!!

We quit the 9-to-5 only to create businesses that own every waking hour. We glorify being “fully booked,” answer emails on vacation, schedule our lives around launches, and wear burnout like it’s proof we’re doing something right.

But what if success wasn’t measured by how much your business needed you... but by how much freedom it gave you?

That question changed everything for me.

When I first started creating content, I wasn’t chasing followers—I was chasing freedom. I wanted to hike on a Tuesday morning. Spend summers on Cape Cod with my family. Travel without asking for PTO. Be present for the life I imagined years before it existed.

Somewhere along the journey, I realized something uncomfortable: even though I had left my corporate job, I was slowly rebuilding another one—except this time, I was the boss asking myself to work weekends.

The biggest shift I’ve made wasn’t finding another revenue stream or posting more content.

It was deciding that my dream life would become the blueprint for my business—not the reward I earned after building it.

Inside today’s subscriber-only article, I’m sharing the exact mindset shifts and framework I use to reverse-engineer a business that supports the life you actually want to live, instead of asking your life to constantly support your business.

Because i couldn’t ignore the feeling i was made for something different. something more.

And no, I didn’t have it all figured out. NOT. MATTER!!

Because here’s what nobody tells you: follower count and income are much more loosely connected than the internet suggests.

I know creators with 200,000 followers making a few hundred dollars a month. I know creators with 6,000 making a full-time living. The difference isn’t reach, and it isn’t luck, and it definitely isn’t the algorithm.

It’s what they’re selling.

The thing that’s actually for sale

Most people assume the product is attention. You gather an audience, then you rent access to it — to brands, to advertisers, to whoever will pay.

That model works. It’s also the hardest, slowest, and least reliable version, because it requires enormous scale before the numbers work, and the thing you’re renting out isn’t yours. It’s rented from a platform that owes you nothing and changes the terms whenever it likes.

Here’s the reframe that changed my entire income and many others I know…

Your audience isn’t the product. Your skill is.

Building a following taught you something valuable, and it wasn’t popularity. You learned to shoot quickly, edit well, understand what makes someone stop scrolling, and make something feel native instead of like an ad. That’s a genuinely rare production skill, and businesses need it desperately and cannot hire for it — an agency costs them five figures and delivers something stiff, a full-time hire costs them a salary.

You sit exactly in that gap.

The follower count is what got you the skill. It isn’t what you sell.

Which means the real question isn’t “how many followers do I need.” It’s “what can I do that someone would pay for?” — and the answer to that is usually yes, right now, at whatever size you are.

Why the order matters more than the option

There are roughly seven ways to make money from social media. Most creators pick the one that looks most like freedom — usually digital products, sometimes brand deals — start there, run out of money, and conclude they weren’t good enough.

They were good enough. They just started at step five.

Because these seven paths have wildly different properties. Some are recurring, some are one-off. Some you control, some depend entirely on being chosen. Some pay in month one, some pay in year two. Stack them in the wrong order and you’ll spend a year working extremely hard on something that structurally cannot pay you yet.

Stack them in the right order and each one funds the next.

That’s the reframe, and it’s the half that matters most: stop optimizing for reach, start optimizing for a sellable skill. If you take nothing else, take that.

But the useful part is the specifics — what each of the seven actually pays, which ones need scale and which ones don’t, and the order I’d build them in if I were starting again tomorrow.

Let’s dive in…

Good company. The kind of job you mention at a family dinner and watch people nod approvingly. Stable, respectable, the thing I’d spent years working toward and the thing I was supposed to be grateful for.

I was miserable.

Not dramatically. Not in a way anyone could see. Just a low, constant, Sunday-evening dread that I got very good at explaining away — I was tired, it was a busy quarter, everyone feels like this, this is just what work is.

And for a long time I treated that feeling as a character flaw. Something ungrateful in me. A discipline problem I needed to fix so I could enjoy the good thing I already had.

That was the mistake. It took me an embarrassingly long time to understand what was actually happening:

“Good on paper” and “good” are completely different measurements, and only one of them is the one you live in.

Why paper lies

Here’s the thing about the paper version of your life: every metric on it was chosen by someone else.

Salary, title, company name, the trajectory, the security. These are real things — I’m not going to pretend they don’t matter, and anyone who tells you money is irrelevant has probably never been genuinely short of it.

But notice what they all have in common. They’re all legible from the outside. They’re the parts of a life that can be summarized to another person in one sentence.

And none of them measure the actual texture of your Tuesday. How you feel at 3pm. Whether you’re becoming more yourself or less. Whether you have anything left when you get home.

So you can build a life that scores flawlessly on paper and is quietly unlivable — and worse, when you feel that, the paper score becomes the evidence against you. Look at what you have. What’s wrong with you?

Nothing was wrong with me. I was just measuring the wrong things and then blaming myself for the result.

Misery is data, not a character flaw

This is the reframe that actually changed something, so I want to say it plainly:

That feeling isn’t ingratitude. It’s information.

You’ve got a system that’s been quietly and accurately reporting on your life the entire time, and the reason it feels like a nuisance is that you’ve been trained to override it. Push through. Be realistic. Everyone’s job is like this.

But it’s not noise. It’s the most accurate instrument you own — it just doesn’t produce a number, so it loses every argument against a salary figure.

The whole shift, for me, was starting to treat it as an actual input. Not “how do I stop feeling this,” but “what is this telling me, specifically, and where exactly is it coming from?”

That last word is the important one. Specifically. Because when I finally sat down and looked honestly, the misery wasn’t evenly distributed at all. It was concentrated in a couple of very particular places — and I’d been letting it contaminate my read on everything else.

That’s what led me to build the thing I still use, several years and one entirely different life later: a way of looking at every area of my life separately, on a regular schedule, and asking one question of each.

Not “is my life good.” That question is unanswerable and mostly just makes you feel bad.

Just: what feels good here, and what doesn’t?

I quit. I chased the thing I actually wanted. I put myself first for what felt like the first time in my adult life, and it worked — I’m not going back.

But I want to be careful here, because “quit your job and follow your dreams” is genuinely terrible advice on its own, and I’m not going to hand it to you. I didn’t leave because I was brave. I left because I finally had a clear picture of which parts of my life were broken and which parts I’d been unfairly blaming.

That picture came from a specific exercise. It takes about an hour, I run it a few times a year, and it’s the single most useful thing I do.

It’s all below.

Two hotels partnered with. Meals covered. The kind of trip I used to save screenshots of in a folder on my phone when i was scrolling through social media at my 9-5 corporate job i literally hated..

And I want to be really clear about something before you read another sentence: this didn’t happen because a hotel discovered me. Nobody reached out. There was no lucky break, no viral moment, no agent.

It happened because I got in touch with the right person and I offered something they wanted!

That’s the whole thing. That’s the entire “secret” and it’s so much less glamorous than people want it to be — which is exactly why it works, and why so few creators actually do it.

The step everyone skips

Here’s where almost every hotel pitch dies, and it’s not the pitch.

It’s that it went to the whole info@…….

That inbox is checked by front desk staff between check-ins. It has no budget authority, no marketing mandate, and no reason to forward your email to anyone. Your beautifully written pitch — the one you spent two hours on, the one with your best work attached — got read by someone whose actual job is telling a guest their room isn’t ready yet.

It’s not that they said no. It’s that the person who could say yes never saw it.

So before I write a single pitch, I do one thing:

I DM the property on Instagram and ask who handles their marketing (my exact DM is below!!!)

Not to pitch. Not to introduce myself. Not to slide in with my portfolio and hope. Just to ask a simple, low-stakes logistical question that the person running that account can answer in eight seconds without needing approval from anyone. (i’ll tell you what i say in one sec..)

And they almost always do.

Why this works when a DM pitch doesn’t

The Instagram account of a hotel is usually run by someone junior, or an agency or an assistant, or occasionally the marketing manager themselves. Whoever it is, they get pitched constantly. They have a mental filter for it and it is fast.

A DM that opens with “Hi! I’m a travel creator with XK followers and I’d love to collaborate!” hits that filter instantly. Ignore. Not because you’re not good — because that message asks them for a decision they’re not empowered to make, from a stranger, in a channel that isn’t built for it.

But a DM that asks what i sent isn’t a pitch. It’s admin. It costs them nothing to answer. There’s no risk in giving you the information. And critically — answering it doesn’t require them to evaluate you at all.

So they hand you the name. And now you have something worth far more than a DM reply: you have the marketing manager’s actual email address, which puts your pitch in a professional inbox, in a format built for proposals, in front of the one person who owns the content budget.

Same pitch. Completely different outcome.

That single reordering — research the contact before you write the pitch — is the difference between the version of me that got silence for months and the version that just spent two weeks in Europe on someone else’s dime.

The reframe underneath all of it

One more thing that’s free, because it matters more than any tactic:

A hotel does not need exposure.

They have exposure. What they have is a content problem — empty channels, a photographer who costs thousands and shoots everything like a real estate listing, and a marketing manager quietly drowning in a calendar they can’t fill.

You are not asking for a free room. You are proposing to solve a production problem at a fraction of what it costs them in-house. The room is the cost of production, not a gift.

Once you actually believe that, your pitch changes on its own.

That’s the strategy. Genuinely — if you take those two ideas and nothing else, you’re ahead of most people pitching hotels right now.

But knowing the order isn’t the same as knowing the words. What I get asked constantly is what the DM actually says so it doesn’t read as a pitch, what goes in the email once you have the address, and what to do in the two weeks of silence that follow (which is where most of my collabs actually come from).

Now let’s dive into what the DM actually says and what my emails say to land these hotel collaborations quite literally all around the world….

And you’re also wrong.

Because monetization doesn’t start with followers.
It starts with positioning.

And most people get that part wildly backwards.

First: What Monetization Actually Means (Hint: It’s Not Just Brand Deals)

When people hear “monetize your personal brand,” they immediately think:

Sponsored posts

Free trips

PR boxes

Brands sliding into DMs

That’s one lane.
