Claude just shipped its own browser. RIP to the Chrome extension we’ve all seen dilly dally around tasks at times. They’re now going head-to-head with OpenAI who ditched Atlas (it’s own standalone browser) and added it to the their ChatGPT desktop app instead.

We’re moving closer and closer to Claude looking to replace Chrome altogether. Gonna be interesting to see how this all shapes up. I came across a killer prediction post that actually describes a world in which we interact with one UI connected to all apps for travel, healthcare, social, etc. I 100% believe we’re headed in this direction. China is already doing this in a more lightweight version with WeChat.

In other news, Optimizely rolled out a roster of “virtual teammates,” ai coworkers with job titles (SEO analyst, CRO manager, chief of staff) that hold context and do recurring work without you prompting them each time. Seems sort of like Grok Bot’s labeling of their teammates.

• Claude got a browser. Anthropic dropped a built-in browser inside the Claude desktop app on August 26. Give it a task that needs the web and it opens a window, navigates, clicks, and fills forms for you. For marketers this is the great stuff: competitor research, pulling data, filling the same form 40 times etc

• ChatGPT's ad business hit a $1B run rate in under 200 days. OpenAI said its ads are now on a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate. This is just six months after the first US pilot which I tested and wrote about here. This is going to be the next big ad type.

• Optimizely gave marketers a team of ai coworkers. These are ai agents with real job titles: SEO & AI Search Analyst, CRO Manager, Chief of Staff. They hold context about your org and run recurring work on a schedule without you re-prompting each time. Seems a littttle bit like Grok Bot to me.

• Google launched a video model that does 40s scenes in 4K. Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash reads up to 10 seconds of prior context, so shots stay consistent instead of changing halfway through. Usable ai video for ads and social, minus the "why does his face keep changing?!" prob.

• PSA: Google auto-upgrading your campaigns to AI Max today. It will automatically migrate campaign-level Broad Match and Automatically Created Assets into AI Max, opted in or not. If you run Search, go check what moved just in case.

Most are still running Claude solo. That’s perfectly fine.. We’re only really a year into this new wave of ai on marketing teams.

I’m fairly confident I’ve cracked the way marketing teams should operate a multiplayer system though.

But first, the problem: In 2018, I was on the early growth team at Postmates and we ran the same campaign test twice in one quarter. Lots of wasted time and spend. This could have been solved if we were all on the same page and learnings were being documented. Sounds easy, but tough without ai.

Well, now we have ai, so what’s the issue?

• I wrote the playbook for running your marketing team on Notion. Most teams have everyone using Claude solo, so everyone's ai knows something slightly different and nothing compounds. I’ve fixed it. Your whole team pulls from the same source of truth, and nobody re-runs the same test.

• ChatGPT ads went live across 31 European markets, its biggest expansion since the US pilot back in Feb. Six months ago ChatGPT had zero ad inventory. I’m very impressed with their launch speed rate.

• Anthropic teed up what could be the biggest ipo ever. Their public S-1 is expected by the end of August and it’s rumored $2 trillion target. And according to CNBC the filing will list "negative sentiment toward ai" as a risk factor. The company selling the ai is warning investors that people might not like ai. Sorta seeing this already.

• Google's going to recut your video ads unless you stop it. There’s now generative ai that auto-resizes your Performance Max video into missing aspect ratios. It's on by default and it applies to creative you already approved. This is exactly WHY you gotta check your settings. SO many ai updates that are being turned on by default.

• Google's August spam update finished rolling out. Apparently no new policies. If your organic traffic moved this week though, that's probably why. Not much to do but keep your site clean and not focus all your efforts on Reddit for citations.

I spent last week putting Grok Bot through some startup and marketing tasks, and here’s my 0.02.

If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s xAI’s take on ai agent teammates. They’ve humanized it by adding cute little faces to each of your teammates. And each teammate can get programmed for a specific job such as an “ad copy specialist” or “chief of staff”

These teammates can talk to each other and even run on schedules.

Here’s where my head is at as a Claude power user though.

Claude Code still wins on basically every dimension. It has the ability to add custom connectors, can build fully custom web apps/ artifacts, entire team can hook into GitHub repo (the future imo), etc.

What I do love about Grok Bot though are the cute little teammates and UI that makes it less intimidating for beginners into ai. It provides such a nice onramp so that users feel an “aha” moment asap without much setup.

Tools like Grok Bot are amazing as onramps into the world of ai. More people outside of the tech bubble I live in will get their hands on ai due to this.

It’s a win overall for the xAI team.

• Claude Code on auto mode by default. Sessions have stopped asking permission for every step and run. (I’ve had this toggled since the first week lol) Claude will only pause for tasks that are destructive or irreversible. Makes sense as I feel most users were just clicking up a storm on “approve all”

Looks like Anthropic is joining the anti-slop party after LinkedIn added an “ai slop report” button that I wrote about last week.

Starting this week, text from Claude models will include a hidden watermark that holds when you copy/ paste, and can even survive a bit of editing. The EU AI Act initially enforced this, but important to note that it’s live worldwide.

It’ll be much easier for universities, social platforms and others to spot ai written copy. I’m all about this because otherwise the web was on pace to getting cluttered with unoriginal slop.

It’s like a smoke detector.

I expect OpenAI and others to follow suit, and for there to be a slew of startups that try to combat this. Ugh.

• Anthropic added invisible watermarks for text from every Claude model launched after August 2. It's live worldwide, not just the EU. The watermark travels when you copy/ paste and even survives light editing. It’ll ultimately flag that ai was involved.

• AMA named the marketing jobs ai is taking & more: ai mentions in marketing job posts nearly doubled in 2025 (8% → 15%), total postings dropped 8%, and U.S. marketing employment is still ~27% below March 2020. The roles losing the most ground are social media coordinators, copywriters and SEO managers.

• If you run auto-created assets or campaign-level broad match setting, those campaigns will convert to AI Max for Search on Sep 1. Search-term matching and text customization will be flipped on by default.

• OpenAI's has been spotted testing a format where clicking an ad drops you into a ChatGPT convo instead of a landing page. The chat will answers questions, surface products, and capture leads. What’s neat is that ChatGPT crawls your site to build the chat profile on its own.

• A new IDC InfoBrief says brands that aren't ready for agent-driven shopping will lose 25% of their market. They also found that 42% of consumers already use ai tools to shop. No surprise here. This means getting your site ready for agents: structured, machine-readable text.

• Search Console now tracks your social - shows how your IG, TikTok, X, and YT posts perform in Google Search.

• LinkedIn is now hunting ai comments - it’s blocking hundreds of thousands of automated comments a day, and Pangram found 30% of comments are fully ai-written.

• Lindy shipped a big update - they’ve pivoted various times, and this time they’re shipping an ai coworker that works with you inside of Slack (Viktor?)

• xAI also launched Grok Imagine 2.0 - which includes 3 new editing tools: Magic Wand, Segmentation, Smart Resize.

• AdAnt AI made it to #1 on Product Hunt - it’s pitched as “Claude for viral social ads” by studying what’s working on TikTok, IG, and YouTube. It then spits out 20-30 ad variants a batch for $39/mo, with a Claude plugin coming.

Looks like social platforms are finally putting a stop to ai slop. Hallelujah.

For two years, creators and startups have been flooding feeds with tons of content that is now so blatantly ai written. It’s why I built DeleteSlop (copy/ paste skills to remove ai tells).

Well… LinkedIn has now added a button that lets people flag your post as ai slop, and killed its own ai writing assistant (it spent a year pushing it). The EU also made it law that you label ai-generated images, audio, and video of real people, and tell people when they're talking to a bot.

Looks like social platforms and regulators are all pushing back on this slop at once. The real winners from here are those that have been using ai to ideate and refine their human-written ideas.

• LinkedIn added a "seems like ai slop" button on July 30th. Users can now flag your post as inauthentic. This comes after a wild study from Pangram showing that 41% of long LinkedIn posts are fully ai-written.

• The EU's ai disclosure law went live on August 2. If you use ai to make images, audio, or video of real people or events, you have to disclose it, and any chatbot has to tell people it's ai.

• Alibaba dropped Qwen3.8-Max - a 2.4-trillion-parameter model with a 1M token context window, and the benchmarks land near Fable 5. The cheap-frontier race now has a very serious China player, which keeps pushing the price of good ai down. Yay for us.

• A new Knak report surveyed 300+ enterprise marketing execs and found 85% still missed a campaign launch date last year. The holdups are: approvals and sign-off (47%), production (38%), and cross-team coordination (36%). This goes back to how I think ai has created more ambitions, more work, more launches.

Anthropic dropped Claude Opus 5 at about half the price of Fable 5, and Google shipped Gemini 3.6 Flash that burns 17% fewer tokens than the last one. LFG. The frontier keeps getting less expensive to run, which means the “how much will my api bill run?” math needs to be updated.

In other news, a survey on ranking in ai search made the rounds (45 studies), and it essentially said: no technique reliably works yet. Everyone’s out here selling GEO playbooks, and the research says there aren’t any proven techniques yet. I’m not saying ignore ai search, but be suspicious of anyone charging you for a guaranteed formula, because the data doesn’t have one.

• Claude Opus 5 landed and undercut its own big sibling. It beats Fable 5 on eight of thirteen benchmarks at about half the price, keeps the 1M token context window, and adds a low/medium/high effort toggle so you can trade cost for horsepower per task. It's the default on Max, and voice mode now spans Opus and Sonnet. For anyone running real marketing work through Claude, the cost-per-smart-token just dropped a lot.

• Google's new workhorse is cheaper too. Gemini 3.6 Flash shipped July 21 as the new default in the Gemini family. It uses ~17% fewer output tokens than 3.5 Flash, moved its knowledge cutoff to March 2026, and dropped the output price. Google also teased Gemini 4. The model price war is very much on.

• HubSpot launched Agent Hub as the one place to deploy and monitor AI agents across marketing and sales service so they share customer context instead of stepping on each other. Agent Builder is a low-code canvas so non-technical folks can build their own.

• Turns out nobody has cracked ai search ranking. Surprise surprise lol. A new academic survey reviewing 45 GEO studies concluded that no technique consistently improves organic discoverability, traffic, or business outcomes across ai platforms.

• Google’s AI Max is being spotted rolling into Standard Shopping campaigns this week (an early look, Google hasn't made it official), bringing conversational query matching, auto-generated ad copy from your feed, and final-URL expansion to product ads. On its latest earnings call Google touted a ~15% conversion lift for AI Max and Performance Max accounts.

I watched the World Cup final at Jamesons Santa Monica on Sunday and it was a vibeeee. It’s just a reminder that doing IRL activities are so nice when we’re so swamped talking to agents all day.

I’ve been thinking about a controversial post that went up on LinkedIn last week. Louise basically said that every marketer should upload their projects to GitHub as a working portfolio.

I don't know which marketer needs to hear this, but you need your own Github. In 1 year from now, you'll only be hireable if you've shared what you've built: skills and agents, prompts, dashboards and analytics setups, content systems, experiments and teardowns, personal projects and apps.

People commented:

“Absolutely not. The best marketers get hired based on reputation, referrals, and results.”

“I wouldn’t hire a marketeer who does this. I want outcomes. I don’t care what tools you use.”

I disagree with these comments. I believe if you have a GitHub as a marketer with projects you’ve built, you instantly become a much more appealing candidate for companies hiring.

• It’s proof of work that you can’t fake

• Repo of skills, tools, etc you’ve built are receipts

• A Chinese open model just became the best ai at building marketing pages. Moonshot’s Kimi K3 landed July 16 and took the #1 spot on Arena’s frontend coding board, past Claude Fable 5 and GPT-5.6, and it ranked first in the “Brand & Marketing” category specifically. The “which model is best” question just got a lot less loyal, and a lot cheaper.

• Google's AI Overviews now draws its own images. Using its Nano Banana model, Google can generate a custom image right inside the answer, so there's one less reason for anyone to click through to your page. If you've been leaning on image search or visual content for discovery, that door just got narrower.

• Meta's Muse Image is rolling into Advantage+ creative so it can spin on-brand ad variations from your existing assets. The catch worth remembering: Meta pulled the consumer version's @-mention feature three days after launch when people saw how it used their public photos. This is WHY you keep a human on the creative before it ships. Human-in-the-loop all day.

• Claude's memory just got smarter about context. Instead of one daily summary blob, Claude now keeps memory as individual categorized entries it reads and updates as you work. Practical version: it holds your brand voice, your ICP, and your positioning as separate, durable notes across sessions, so you stop re-explaining who you are every Monday. Big difference if you live in Claude like I do.

• The buyer will be a bot soon. Salesforce made its Agentforce Commerce agents available, ai that walks a shopper from the first question all the way to checkout, and it plugs straight into ChatGPT and Google. Salesforce says ai already influenced about 20% of online sales last holiday, roughly $262B of it. If an agent is doing the buying, it doesn't care about your hero image or clever headline. We’ll need two web surfaces: human and ai optimized.

• Google launched Ask Advisor which is one Gemini agent that spans Google Ads, Analytics, Merchant Center, and the Marketing Platform. You tell it "find new customers for my hair care products" and it pulls your product data and drafts the campaign for you. And AI Mode just crossed a billion monthly users, so this is the buy layer getting bolted onto a surface that's already enormous.

Edition #1 was a massive success and was real fun to write up! I can’t believe it took me this long to launch but here goes #2.

Sooo, chatgpt ads can now target your actual customer list. This is standard for other ad platforms and it’s available for the OG LLM now. The rate at which chatgpt is improving the ad platform is impressive. I feel like it was just yesterday that you had a few toggles and it was barebones. I wrote an entire essay on launching my first gpt ads that now feels outdated lol.

In other news, an ecommerce research firm launched the first real ranking of who's discoverable inside ai shopping answers. At the same moment, the answer engine is becoming a paid channel AND a ranking system. The thing that recommends you and the thing that sells to you are now the same box.

And here's the part that got me. In that new ranking, a retailer sitting at #814 by online sales came in #1 for ai readiness. It goes to show that small fish can now compete with the big whales if you take advantage of the early waves. Said differently, go optimize your sites for AEO whether you’re in retail or not.

Plus new audience bid adjustments and ai that drafts ad variations for you to approve. One catch worth knowing before you get excited: the minimum is 25,000 matched users, so you may need a list of 100k+ contacts to clear it.

• There's now a scoreboard for showing up in ai shopping answers. Digital Commerce 360 and ReFiBuy launched the first AI Commerce Rankings, scoring 1,000 retailers on whether ai agents can actually find and buy from them. The average score was 41.9 out of 100, only 20 stores cracked 60, and ChatGPT drives 80%+ of ai-referred retail traffic.

• Apple suing OpenAI because two employees allegedly stole proprietary information for its upcoming AI products. Apple reports that these employees were told to share secret information and bring physical parts to interviews. Woah.

• Ad spend inside ChatGPT and Perplexity is now trackable. Guideline extended its Ad Intelligence data to capture real, transaction-level ad activity on ai platforms, not platform estimates. Translation: the ai ad economy just went from "vibes" to "you can benchmark what people are actually paying."

• Google is making you label your ai-made ads with "How this ad was made" transparency tags rolling out across Search, YouTube, and Discover. Ads built with Google's own gen-ai get auto-labeled, but third-party ai ads now need you to manually disclose. So before your next ai-generated batch goes live, that disclosure step is on you now.

Welcome to edition #1 of a new thing I’m trying. That thing is sharing all the ai thoughts swirling my head - specifically for marketers. Please reply if you have any ideas or feedback(!!!). Will iterate as needed.

This week a stat confirmed something I’ve felt for months. Anthropic said 90%+ of Claude usage isn’t coding. It’s ops and content work. Marketing work.

I’ve been living in that number. Most of my week with Claude isn’t “build me a thing.” It’s “help me think.” Pull apart a messy campaign export. Argue with me about a site positioning angle. Although it likes to agree a lot, as we know lol.

What’s weird is how fast the muscle memory flipped. A year ago I opened a doc. Now I open a chat. And I’ve caught myself doing the lazy version of it, regenerating until something clicks instead of sitting with the hard version of the problem. Which is either a superpower or a very expensive way to avoid thinking. Jury’s still out.

Anyway. The agents had a big week, and almost all of it points at us, not the engineers. Let’s get into it.

• Google Ads won’t refund you for their mistakes. Let me explain: your inputs and URLs feed Google's AI, and you're liable for catching any AI-generated asset that misleads or breaks policy. This is WHY human-in-the-loop is so important.

• Klaviyo just launched a beta Composer agent. You can type "win back my 90-day lapsed customers, email + SMS" and it drafts the audience, copy, and timing off your store's actual data. Pretty cool.

• ChatGPT is basically all of AI search traffic now. A new report across 6.77M sessions puts ChatGPT at ~92% of trackable LLM referrals.

• LinkedIn turned campaign manager into a creative studio with 5 new tools - brand kit, draft with ai, ad variants, personalization and flexible creation.
