A more expensive serum. A facial everyone was talking about. A treatment promising to reverse the effects of stress, late nights and getting older. Like most women, I spent a huge amount of time looking for the next thing that might make a visible difference.

What I've come to realise, particularly over the last few years, is that skin is far less about what happens in the bathroom and far more about what happens during the other twenty-three hours of the day.

The women I know with truly exceptional skin aren't necessarily the women with the biggest beauty budgets. They're often the women who sleep well, spend time outdoors, eat nourishing food, manage stress effectively and have lifestyles that support their health rather than constantly depleting it.

The more I've learned about health, the more I've realised that skin is simply one of the ways the body communicates with us. It reflects inflammation, blood sugar balance, hormonal health, nutrient status, stress levels and sleep quality. When those systems are thriving, skin often follows. When they're struggling, even the best skincare products can only do so much.

As we head into summer, I've found myself focusing far less on beauty products and far more on the daily habits that determine how my skin functions in the first place. Some of these changes are backed by science, some are observations from my own experience, but together they've had a greater impact on my skin than any single cream I've ever purchased.

The Shift From Surface-Level Skincare To Cellular Skincare

One of the biggest changes I've made recently has been thinking about skincare from a cellular perspective rather than a cosmetic one.

For years, my focus was on improving the appearance of my skin in the moment. Now I'm much more interested in supporting the quality of the skin my body is producing over the next six months, twelve months and beyond.

The reality is that healthy skin isn't created overnight. Collagen production, cellular repair and skin turnover are continuous processes happening beneath the surface every single day. The decisions we make now often show up months later.

That's what initially drew me towards Aurelia's Absolute Beauty supplement. Rather than simply focusing on the surface of the skin, it contains ingredients such as EternalCell®, ergothioneine and vitamin A, which are designed to support collagen production and help protect existing collagen from oxidative stress.

What I like most about this approach is that it feels less reactive. Instead of constantly trying to fix problems once they've appeared, it focuses on supporting the biological processes responsible for healthy skin in the first place.

I have a discount code - CORAL10 - for this supplement - link here!

Why I've Become Obsessed With Nutrient Density

One of the least glamorous things I eat regularly is sardines.

They are not aesthetically pleasing. They don't make beautiful recipe content. They certainly aren't one of the wellness foods dominating social media.

Yet nutritionally, they're one of the most impressive foods available.

I think we've become disconnected from the idea that skin is built from nutrients. We often focus on topical products while overlooking the fact that collagen, elastin and healthy skin cells all require raw materials to be produced.

Sardines provide high-quality protein, omega-3 fats, selenium, calcium and astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant that naturally accumulates in marine life. Together, these nutrients support everything from inflammation regulation to collagen synthesis.

What I've noticed over the years is that many women are undernourished while simultaneously spending a fortune on supplements. We become so focused on finding the perfect powder, capsule or treatment that we forget to ask whether our bodies are receiving enough nutrients through food in the first place.

Skin is living tissue. It requires energy, protein, vitamins and minerals to function properly. No product can fully compensate for a lack of those foundations.

Rethinking Exercise For Better Skin

There was a period of my life where I genuinely believed that the harder I exercised, the healthier I was.

If a workout didn't leave me exhausted, drenched in sweat and questioning my life choices, I assumed it probably wasn't effective.

These days, my perspective has changed considerably.

I still move every day and exercise remains a huge priority, but my approach is very different. My routine now revolves around walking, reformer Pilates and strength training, with far less emphasis on constantly pushing my body to its limits.

Part of this shift came from learning more about stress physiology. The body doesn't necessarily distinguish between emotional stress, poor sleep, work pressure or excessive exercise. It simply responds to the signals it's receiving.

Whilst movement is incredibly beneficial, I've found that constantly operating in a state of depletion doesn't create the results I want, either for my health or my appearance.

When my recovery improves, my skin improves. When my sleep improves, my skin improves. When my nervous system feels regulated, my skin almost always looks healthier too.

The Most Unexpected Thing I've Learned About Facial Ageing

Recently, I've become fascinated by something I never expected to think about: chewing.

Modern food requires remarkably little effort. Most of what we eat today is soft, processed and easy to consume quickly. Compare that with previous generations who spent much more time eating fibrous vegetables, tougher cuts of meat and foods that required significantly more chewing.

The more I've explored research around facial structure, jaw development and oral health, the more interesting this becomes.

Whilst I certainly don't believe chewing a steak is the secret to eternal youth, I do think we've underestimated how much our modern lifestyles have changed the way our facial muscles are used throughout our lives.

It's one of those topics that initially sounds ridiculous but becomes increasingly fascinating the more you learn about it.

Why Morning Sunlight Is Still My Favourite Wellness Habit

Of all the habits I've adopted over the years, morning sunlight remains one of the simplest and most impactful.

Within the first part of the day, I try to get outside and expose my eyes and skin to natural light. It sounds almost too basic to be meaningful, yet it influences so many systems that ultimately affect our health and appearance.

Our circadian rhythm regulates hormones, sleep, energy production and countless repair processes throughout the body. When that rhythm is functioning well, everything tends to work better.

The connection between sleep and skin is something most people recognise. What many people don't realise is that morning sunlight is one of the most powerful tools available for improving sleep quality later that night.

The better my sleep becomes, the better my skin looks. It's one of the most consistent relationships I've observed in my own health.

What Happened When I Stopped Eating Ultra-Processed Foods

This is probably the most controversial section of this article, but it's also one of the most significant changes I've made.

Over the years, I've gradually moved towards a diet built primarily around whole foods. Meat, fish, eggs, fruit, vegetables, olive oil, avocados and other minimally processed foods now make up the vast majority of what I eat.

At the same time, I've significantly reduced my intake of ultra-processed foods and seed oils.

Whether the benefits come specifically from reducing seed oils or simply from removing heavily processed foods, I can't say with certainty. What I can say is that I feel noticeably better eating this way.

My digestion improved. My energy became more stable. My blood sugar became easier to manage. And perhaps unsurprisingly, my skin seemed to benefit too.

Sometimes the most powerful wellness interventions aren't additions. They're removals.

The Beauty Treatment Nobody Wants To Hear About

If I could only choose one thing for my skin, it might genuinely be sleep.

Not because it's exciting. Not because it sells products. But because it works.

During deep sleep, the body carries out an extraordinary amount of repair and regeneration. Growth hormone is released, inflammation decreases, cellular repair accelerates and countless processes essential for healthy ageing take place.

Whenever my sleep deteriorates, my skin tells me almost immediately. I look more tired, less vibrant and generally less healthy. Whenever I prioritise sleep again, those changes reverse surprisingly quickly.

We've become accustomed to searching for complicated solutions, but sleep remains one of the most powerful beauty treatments available.

My Approach To Sun Exposure Has Changed Completely

For years, the conversation around sunlight seemed incredibly polarised.

One side viewed the sun as something to be feared entirely. The other dismissed any concerns about excessive exposure.

I've gradually settled somewhere in the middle.

I believe sunlight is essential for human health. We evolved outdoors, and exposure to natural light plays an important role in circadian rhythm, mood, vitamin D production and overall wellbeing.

At the same time, I don't think repeatedly burning your skin is a sensible strategy for healthy ageing.

These days, I aim for regular, sensible sun exposure whilst using mineral sunscreen when appropriate. I personally prefer mineral formulations because they use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to physically block UV radiation rather than relying on chemical UV filters.

For me, it's not about avoiding the sun. It's about developing a healthier relationship with it.

The best SPF I use would be the brand Sun Solve - you can use my code CORAL15 for 15% off: Shop Mineral SPF50 Sunscreen | SunsolveMD by TheSolveMD

The One Wellness Tool That Has Never Left My Routine

The wellness industry is constantly introducing new trends, devices and protocols. Most come and go.

Red light therapy is one of the few things that has remained a consistent part of my routine for years.

Part of the reason is that it feels supportive rather than invasive. It works with the body's natural processes rather than attempting to override them.

Research continues to explore its effects on mitochondrial function, tissue repair and collagen production, which are all areas that naturally interest me from a skin health perspective.

Perhaps more importantly, it's become a ritual. A moment in my day where I slow down, step away from screens and create space for recovery.

The older I get, the more I value practices that support both physical and mental wellbeing simultaneously.

I exclusively use Bon Charge’s Red Light products, you can use my link here and code CORAL for a discount and see the links to my favourite products below:

Red Light Face Mask - https://uk.boncharge.com/products/red-light-face-mask?rfsn=8539729.431b01

General Website - https://uk.boncharge.com/?rfsn=8539729.431b01

Anyway, to conclude!

The truth is that most of the things that have transformed my skin aren't particularly glamorous. They don't come in beautiful packaging and they rarely go viral on social media.

They're habits.Sleeping well. Eating enough protein. Managing stress. Spending time outdoors. Moving my body. Supporting my health from the inside out.

Because skin isn't separate from the rest of the body. It's simply one of the places where health becomes visible.

The world my children are growing up in is toxic enough. We switched to unbleached, plastic-free alternatives and it was one of the simplest swaps we made.

toilet paper

The fridge light

I taped red UV photography film over the fridge light to block out the blue light. It means opening the fridge at night doesn’t disrupt melatonin production or send the wrong signal to their circadian rhythms. Five minutes to sort and I haven’t thought about it since.

red film

Lightbulbs

Warm bulbs in all the lamps, and red reading lights in the evenings. Light matters more than most people realise, particularly for children whose nervous systems are still developing. The shift in how we all wind down at night was almost immediate.

Use the code CORAL for 20% off red light products

Plastic in the kitchen

Plastic chopping boards shed microplastics directly onto food every time you cut on them. Those particles end up in small bodies that are far less equipped to process them than ours.

The chopping boards we use

Cleaning products

Conventional cleaning products are some of the most chemical-laden things inside a home, and children are closer to the floor, touching more surfaces, putting hands to mouths. We use Daylesford across the board. The house still gets clean.

Daylesford organic cleaning products

Sponges

Standard sponges and microfibre cloths shed plastic particles with every use, into the water, onto dishes, into the air. We switched to organic cotton dishcloths. A small change that removes a constant, invisible source.

organic cotton cloths plastic free sponges

Bedding

Eight hours a night, every night. What your children sleep on and in matters more than most people give it credit for. Organic cotton sheets, and wool mattresses for the children. This one was worth spending on.

organic cotton bedding

Cookware

Non-stick coatings release forever chemicals into food, especially once scratched. We use stainless steel pans, a glass air fryer, and an Instant Pot. Nothing is sacrificed except the coating.

titanium pan

instant pot

Glass air fryer

Clothing

This one took me a long time to act on. A few weeks ago I finally cleared out all the polyester. Sweating in plastic, once you understand what it does to your body, is very hard to continue justifying. Natural fibres only now.

Blankets

Every fleece in the house is gone, replaced with organic cotton, wool, and cashmere. Warmer, softer, and nothing shedding microplastics every time someone wraps up on the sofa.

Sanitary products

One of the most overlooked swaps. Conventional products are bleached and fragranced against some of the body’s most absorptive tissue. Organic cotton alternatives exist and they work just as well.

We like Yoni

Water

Spring water for drinking. Reverse osmosis for cooking. Tap water contains more than most people have looked into, and this felt like one of the most fundamental things to get right.

Candles and fragrance

Synthetic fragrance is one of the most common sources of indoor air pollution. Children breathe more air relative to their body weight than adults do. We only burn natural wax candles with essential oil scents.

Kala blends candles

Shower filter

Chlorine and heavy metals absorb through skin and inhalation in a hot shower just as readily as through drinking. A shower filter was one of the easiest and most underrated swaps we made.

curo shower filter

Laundry

Conventional detergents leave residue on everything your children wear and sleep in. Worth reading the label on whatever you’re currently using.

Air quality

Indoor air is consistently more polluted than outdoor air. Between off-gassing furniture, synthetic cleaning products, and poor ventilation, it adds up. Open windows wherever possible, and an air purifier changed the baseline in our home.

air filter

None of this happened at once. It’s been gradual, and it’s still ongoing. But home is the one environment I have real agency over, and for my children, that feels worth taking seriously.

If you’re working through your own swaps, start with whichever feels most manageable. The compounding effect is real.

10 things I'm loving this week

Some new finds but mostly what I'm using on repeat

Coral Pearl

A lot of this weeks mentions are actually inspired by tonights Q&A that I posted on my Instagram - and so some of the links are actually requests that I want to share exactly why I love them so much and have on repeat order or subscription…

Coral’s Substack is a reader-supported publication. last few years I have literally sworn by Rahua hair products and their Aloe Vera range is literally elite! It’s so clean that I also use it on my girls hair and I it keeps our hair soooo glossy!

Even though I don’t really use SPF on my body, because i’ve had so many laser treatments etc I always try to keep my face out of the sun - BUT - I HATE being pale! So I always tend to use tan on my face… I was recently sent These tanning drops from Three Warriors and I absolutely love them! They’re one of the cleanest bronzing drops on the market and also contain nourishing ingredients for your skin too.

I made the decision to have a break from getting my nails done (because of how many toxic ingredients are in gel polish) and started using Manucurist nail varnish on my hands (their drying drops are actual magic) and then I use their non toxic gels on my feet.

Got a new pair of Jimmy Fairly sunglasses (that I was wearing in my stories earlier) and had so many DM’s about them so thought I should share the link here too.

I feel like I have to add this product to my list because I’ve actually been taking it for the last few years and genuinely notice a difference in my energy and mood when I don’t… These Ape nutrition beef organ capsules are natures multi vitamin and I even open up the capsules and put them in my girls morning smoothie too.

Let’s talk about coffee - I am a complete control freak when it comes to my morning coffee, to the point where I even take my own cafetière and coffee with me when I travel. I drink this mould free coffee from exhale because it’s organic and completely free from mould and mycotoxins. I then blend it with nutrient butterfat keto powder which keeps you in ketosis and won’t raise your blood sugar in the morning and then for mocha vibes (but make it protein rich) I add willpowers bone broth protein powder and its unreal.

For health on the go I like products that I can just grab when I’m running out the door that I know are super easy to incorporate, but that stack everything I need in one (who has time when you’re rushing around as a mum in the day to worry about taking supplements) so these V14 sachets from youth and earth are an absolute game changer! They contain 41 different nutrients in one sachet and really help with mental clarity and energy when i’m out and about - I just pour into a bottle of water and you’re good to go.

I have to add these organic steak strips to this list - as I feel like a snack needs to be added weekly to this list.

Then finishing with a bit of a random one - this claw clip is genuinely like no other! Is there anything more annoying than a claw clip that doesn’t stay in place?! I saw one of my favourite influencers share this a while ago and immediately ordered - and I’m so glad I did! My hair (especially with extensions) is pretty heavy, and this clip never fails to keep my hair securely in place!

Coral’s Substack is a reader-supported publication. I’m loving, snacks I’m obsessed with, things that the girls are enjoying or maybe some skincare I’ve been trying out. Every Sunday I’m going to start sharing a round up of my top 10 from the week…

Starting with my new favourite non toxic pan! I’ve tried lots of different brands over the years and most of them are still coated with a layer that unfortunately (however gentle I am) tends to scratch and come off. So when I saw this titanium one from Siraats Kitchen (with no coating whatsoever) I knew I had to try it! I’ve had it for a few weeks now and so far I’m really impressed - the pan is hammered titanium which provides a natural non stick surface for cooking and is supposedly extremely hardwearing. Which means no more worrying about cooking my food on forever chemicals (that are potentially leaching into our food) as it’s completely free from any coating, pfas, lead and cadmium.

If you’ve ever listened to me speak on our podcast about spf and sunscreen you will know that it’s a subject I’m pretty torn on. I personally believe that as humans we are meant to be exposed to sunlight and to me, during chemicals into your skin to block out the sun doesn’t make much sense to me. However, I have had my fair amount of laser treatments on my face over the years and therefore shouldn’t really expose the skin on my face to the sun too much. So to summarise - I tend to not wear any spf on my body so that I’m still able to absorb the vitamin D, and then wear hats to cover my face and a mineral (not chemical). I kept hearing about this this one from Sunsolve on my instagram and what drew me in was that as well as it being a non nano mineral spf, it also had skincare benefits and was tinted and therefore wouldn’t leave a white cast (which unfortunately lots of mineral sunscreens do).

And after giving it a try I’m completely obsessed! I feel like it gives a really nice glow and slight coverage for no makeup days and also sits as a really lovely base under makeup!

If you’re like me and often just grab food or snacks as you’re running out the house then these prime bars are just perfection! They’re not like most protein bars that are full of fillers and artificial ingredients - they’re made completely from whole foods like grass fed beef protein, dates, colostrum, tallow, cacao and honey. But in a super convenient bar form… A new firm staple in my pantry!

We were up in London this week for a concert with the girls and whilst shopping for some vinyl in Selfridges for Ava I popped to the beauty floor to have a quick mooch. I had seen this Fara Homidi lip oil on Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s instagram and so had a look at some of the products from her makeup line. It’s a clean beauty brand (which of course, I love) and the products and packaging are just beautiful. So I treated myself to the lip oil and so far both myself (and Ava) are very impressed! It feels really light, yet incredibly hydrating and gives a natural plumping effect without any nasty ingredients.

Spring felt like it had officially sprung this week, so understandably (as I’m sure most of the UK did) I got over excited to finally come out the house in something other than a tracksuit and wore these new beige mules that I ordered from Zara. I adore the shape of them and in this camel colour I feel like they could be worn with so much (and for such a good price too!)

I wore them with a pair of linen blend capri pants from Massimo Dutti and my trusty oversized beige blazer from the Frankie shop which I’ve had for a few years now and I still absolutely love!

I travelled with my large leather black marlo bag from The Row, which fits literally everything in and has become my go to bag for work, podcast days and travel - such an understated classic bag that I feel like I’ll have forever.

I wanted to share this eye mask with you all as it really has become a game changer for me… I am SO sensitive to any artificial lights at night and have our room completely blacked out at home, but when we stay in hotels the little lights everywhere drive me absolutely crazy! From the air conditioning control panels to the little tv lights - I swear there is always something. However I’ve never been able to find a sleep mask that I found comfortable - until now. This longevity on is soooo comfortable, is made from 100% pure silk and also contains silver ions which help to prevent bacterial growth and supposedly help with skincare absorption too!

Since the sun was back out this week Sufi was rather excited to get her aerial silks frame back out and has been on it from the crack of dawn every morning. I had quite a few messages asking where the rig we had was from, so I thought I would add it to my round up this week as it’s definitely been a firm fave in our family this week.

As I’m turning 40 in a few months I have been experimenting with some new skincare that I had heard some incredible things about - both growth factors and copper peptides are really having a moment and the brand Allies of skin have created a super powerful line containing peptides, growth factors and GHKCU copper tripeptides - so after doing a lot of research I invested in the two products and have added them both to my current skincare regimen.

And finally I thought I would share my current read with you all that I’m really enjoying - The Creative Act - When I saw my friend Louie over In Dubai (the co founder of Long Lane) he was in the process of reading it and highly recommend it. So I instantly ordered it to arrive for when we returned home and I’m absolutely loving it so far!

Do you think school is still going to be relevant in the next 10 years?

I chose to home educate my two girls nearly 10 years ago now, but back then my decision was based on their happiness and sense of security, knowing that they could stay at home with me where they felt content.

Coral Pearl

I chose to home educate my two girls nearly 10 years ago now, but back then my decision was based on their happiness and sense of security, knowing that they could stay at home with me where they felt content. decision a mother makes, she will always question whether she has chosen to do the right thing or not, and will always feel some level of “guilt” or confusion, not knowing whether you’re holding them back from certain childhood experiences that can almost feel like a rite of passage.

As my eldest daughter grew older and suddenly hit her teen years, I started to realise that she was learning through living life with us and truly understanding the world around her. There was a point when she made the decision that she wanted to try school, so she did six months at secondary school and quickly realised it wasn’t for her. I think she envisioned it would feel like Hogwarts, however she was rudely awakened from that rose-tinted vision after only a few weeks, when the boredom, homework, pressure, early starts and complicated friendship dynamics kicked in.

After witnessing her school experience as an adult in this modern and quickly evolving world, it really got me questioning the relevance of school for this generation. I find it so crazy how quickly technology is advancing and how much of what we are encouraged to memorise feels almost pointless.

Don’t get me wrong, of course education and experience are important. But I feel the system needs updating, to be honest. It’s not evolving at the same speed as technology and, as we are now witnessing, AI has already started to replace a huge number of jobs that humans spend years trying to master.

One thing that I feel needs to be truly nurtured in our children are the skills that only humans can currently experience. Over time, I have become quietly obsessed with finding grain free switches that do not feel like substitutes, just simple food done well.

These are a few of the recipes I make every Christmas. They are reliable, unfussy, and easy to return to year after year. Nothing here is trying to be clever. They simply earn their place on the table.

Coral’s Substack is a reader-supported publication. Just before I jump in the shower I´ll take a teaspoon of organic coconut oil into my mouth for my oral health (tip, discard your coconut on in a bin not down the sink or toilet) with hairbands around my ears for facial lymphatic drainage which normally takes me around 10 minutes.

Next up is my Hydration! We lose so much water while we sleep so I believe it is important to rehydrate after a good nights rest. I use the AquaTru Carafe Countertop Water Purifier with reverse osmosis alongside the Mayu Swirl to really purify my water. I´ll then add trace minerals to add minerals back into my water, creatine to help support muscles, pearl powder for cellular renewal, colloidal silver for a natural antibiotic, electrolytes to deepen hydration and molecular hydrogen adding antioxidants. Now I know this seems a lot but I promise you it only takes me 2 minutes and adds all my essential minerals for the day.

<a class="image-link image2 changer for this. It only takes me around 10 minutes and I tend to do it in the evenings before bed to plan for the next day or first thing in a morning. I can write down everything I need to do (plus thoughts in my head) on the notes side then, add them to the time slots on the left. I know if I block out the time for it, it WILL get done!

Lymphatic drainage massage is an absolute must for my morning routine and doing it while on my vibration plate is the perfect habit stack that super charges the benefits of both and only takes 5 minutes. Plus slathering my body in oil leaves my skin super hydrated for the day.

I am obsessed with red light therapy at the moment and what better way to pair my time in front of my red light device with my favourite micro current facial device. To me it’s the perfect combination of a lift and glow in under 5 minutes.

Now, are you ready for my favourite habit stack of them all? For me this is 5 minutes of pure heaven! I use my chi machine whilst lying on my PEMF mat with my pulsetto device on listening to a future self activation and I will literally feel like a different person afterwards.

If I find myself with extra time in the mornings I´ll head for a 20 minute infrared sauna and use my copper dry brush whilst i’m in there to stimulate circulation and help detoxification.

Once we have finished our busy day of home-ed and we start to wind down for the evening I love nothing more than getting into bed knowing I am stacking my habits and beauty rituals even in my sleep. After doing my evening skincare I wrap my hair in a silk turban, use a peptide lip mask, place on my nasal strips and mouth tape and finally cover my eyes with my blackout eye mask. To me sleep is an absolute priority! If I have an interrupted or bad sleep it sends my whole next day off and I don’t feel as present with the girls.

I would love to hear your favourite morning routines, hacks and how you stack them.

A closer look: Our clean beauty favourites, what’s inside them and why we love them

Breaking down the ingredients behind some of our go to products.

Coral Pearl

I often get questions about why I choose the brands I use especially when it comes to clean beauty for my girls.
