I’m not one for grand gestures, but the quiet introspection is a different story altogether. The weight of my body, the ache in my hip, it’s a constant companion. A harsh reality check, a reminder that I’m still human.

The memories of that fateful holiday season still linger, a cautionary tale of the perils of pushing my limits. The hospital stay, the diagnosis, the lengthy road to recovery – it’s a mixture of emotions I’d rather not revisit. And yet, here I am, navigating the complexities of my own mind.

Walking and Talking: A Journey into Self-Awareness is a reader-supported publication. The constant chatter, the whispers of self-doubt, the mosaic of thoughts and feelings that refuse to quiet down. It’s a never-ending cycle, a hamster wheel of self-reflection. I’m acutely aware of my thoughts, the inner monologue that plays on repeat.

I find myself lost in the pages of old books, searching for answers to questions I never quite asked. The Course in Miracles, The Urantia Book, Handbook to Higher Consciousness – they’re my guides, my confidants. The words on those pages whisper truths I never knew I knew. The power of Christ consciousness, the potential of human being – it’s a siren’s call, beckoning me deeper.

But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. There are moments, situations, that test my resolve. The early years, the relationships, the moments of doubt – they’re all part of the journey. I’ve grown through them, but the memories remain. The question arises: what’s the big lesson from it all?

One thing is clear – I’m not separate from God. The realization is both exhilarating and terrifying. It’s a reminder that I’m not just a human being, but a being of love, of light. The potential of human being is a double-edged sword, a tool that can be wielded for good or ill.

As I sit here, surrounded by the trappings of a life well-lived, I’m faced with the harsh realities of the world. The politics, the propaganda, the constant barrage of information – it’s a cacophony that threatens to consume me whole. But I refuse to be defined by it. I choose to rise above, to find the higher ground.

This is my challenge, my writing, my work. It’s the context for growth, for evolution. The resurrection – a reminder that we don’t die, that we transcend. It’s a recognition that we’re more than just human. We’re sparks of the divine.

And so, I’ll hold on to this, this sense of identity, of purpose. I’ll nurture it, tend to it, until it’s a flame that burns bright. The darkness will always be there, but I’ll choose to illuminate it, to bring light to the shadows. This is my journey, my meandering path to self-discovery.

Check out my new book, The Way of Awareness, and read some sample chapters.

Walking and Talking: A Journey into Self-Awareness is a reader-supported publication. I hesitate, unsure if I’m ready to surrender to the unknown.

As I pause, my mind begins to wander. I take a deep breath, letting the air fill my lungs, and exhale, releasing the tension. The present moment is all I have. I am walking, my feet carrying me forward, yet my soul remaining rooted to the spot.

Walking and Talking: A Journey into Self-Awareness is a reader-supported publication. A bird takes flight, its wings beating in a rhythmic symphony, a stark reminder that life is a dance between chaos and control. The word “bird” is merely a label; the true essence lies in the experience, the sensation, the thrumming of life itself.

I wander, lost in the labyrinth of my thoughts. The lines between reality and fantasy blur, and I find myself questioning the very fabric of existence. Who am I? What is the purpose of this walk? The questions swirl, taunting me, yet I press on, driven by an insatiable curiosity.

As I stroll, the landscape unfolds before me. Memories surface, like ripples on a serene lake. The past, present, and future converge, creating a tapestry of time and space. I am the thread that weaves this narrative, the author of my own destiny.

The world around me transforms, as if reality itself is a canvas, awaiting the brushstrokes of my imagination. I am the painter, the sculptor, the creator of this masterpiece. The strokes are bold, yet delicate, as I navigate the intricate dance between existence and non-existence.

And then, there is the question that haunts me virtually everyday. Who am I? The answer, much like the universe itself, remains elusive. Yet, in the depths of my soul, I find a glimmer of truth. I am the sum total of my experiences, the culmination of my thoughts, the synthesis of my emotions.

I am the universe, and the universe is me. We are two sides of the same coin, two perspectives on the same reality. The dichotomy dissolves, and I am left with the simplicity of existence. I breathe, I am, I am alive.

The questions linger, but I have come to realize that the answers are not for me to find. The journey itself is the destination. I am no longer searching; I am simply being. The world spins on, yet I remain rooted, a leaf on the winds of time.

And so, I continue my walk, a journey without a destination, a path that winds and twists, ever-changing, ever-evolving. The test, the net, the weight – all are mere distractions, reminders that the true power lies within.

In this grand moment of release, I let go of everything. The need to hold on, to control, to manipulate – all are cast aside. I am free, unencumbered by the weights of the world. I am the sun, shining bright, untainted by the shadows.

And then, there is the presence. A holy instance, a spark of divine light, a reminder that we are not separate, that we are all connected. The resistance, the barriers, the walls – all crumble, revealing the truth that we are one.

I am the bird, soaring on the winds of freedom. I am the universe, unfolding its mysteries. I am the present, the past, the future, and the nothingness that lies between. I am the question, the answer, the paradox, and the resolution.

This is the end of the walk, not because I have reached a destination, but because I have transcended the need for one. The path itself is the destination, the journey, the experience, and the evolution. I am the walk, the talk, the thought, and the being.

Check out my new book, The Way of Awareness, and read some sample chapters.

Walking and Talking: A Journey into Self-Awareness is a reader-supported publication. Awareness simply notices. This is one of the reasons awareness can feel so unfamiliar at first. Most human beings are accustomed to living in continuous reaction,

trying to improve, correct, control, resist, analyze, fix, or escape experience. Awareness moves differently. Awareness allows experience to reveal itself before any attempt to change it. Pause for a moment and observe this directly. Notice how quickly the mind moves to interpretation. A sensation appears and almost immediately the mind says, I like this. I don’t like this.

This should not be happening. What does this mean? How do I get rid of this? How do I hold on to this? The conditioned mind rarely rests in simple observation. It immediately moves toward control. Awareness itself does not. Awareness is open enough to allow experience to unfold exactly as it is unfolding.

This does not mean passivity or indifference. It means direct contact with reality before the mind begins constructing its stories about reality. Awareness sees. The mind interprets. Awareness notices. The mind judges. Awareness observes. The mind attempts to control. And because awareness does not immediately resist experience, something remarkable begins to happen. Experience begins moving naturally.

Much of human suffering comes not from experience itself, but from resistance to experience. A feeling arises. The mind contracts around it. A thought appears. The mind identifies with it. An emotion moves through the body. The personality clings to it or pushes it away. And what might have passed naturally becomes fixed within consciousness.

Notice this in your own experience. How much energy is spent resisting what is already occurring? How much effort goes into maintaining identities, grievances, fears, self-images, and emotional turmoil that have become familiar over time? The way of awareness is not asking you to force yourself into peace. It is inviting you to observe the mechanisms that disturb peace.

This is an entirely different movement. Awareness itself is gentle. Not weak. Gentle. Because awareness does not attack experience. It illuminates experience. Imagine entering a dark room carrying a candle. The light does not struggle with the darkness. It simply shines. And what was hidden becomes visible. Awareness functions in much the same way. The more deeply you observe,

thought process, contraction, fear, resistance and identification, the less unconscious they become. And what becomes fully conscious begins naturally losing its grip. This is why awareness transforms, not through force, but through seeing. Awareness is also inclusive. Nothing is outside of it. Situations arise within awareness. The body is experienced within awareness. Thoughts arise within awareness. Sounds arise within awareness.

The world itself is experienced within awareness. Even resistance to awareness appears within awareness. Take a moment and notice this directly. Right now, there may be distraction, there may be impatience, there may be openness or confusion, there may be agreement or skepticism. Can you notice that all of these states are being observed?

Awareness itself remains present regardless of what is appearing within it. This realization begins subtly changing your relationship to experience. Instead of being completely immersed in every passing state, a space begins to emerge. You begin noticing. This is being experienced, rather than immediately assuming. This is what I am. That space is enormously important. Within that space, reaction softens,

compulsive identification loosens, and freedom quietly begins appearing. Awareness itself is not divided, the mind divides. The mind says, this is good, this is bad, this should stay, this should go. Awareness simply notices the movement of these judgments, like the sky allowing every kind of weather to pass through it,

Awareness remains open enough to contain the changing movements of experience without becoming imprisoned by them. This openness is not something you create. It is already present beneath the activity of the conditioned mind. Even now, as you listen to these words, awareness is here. Sensations are present in the body,

breathing is occurring, thoughts are moving, the ears are hearing these words. All of this is happening effortlessly. The invitation of this book is very simple. Slow down enough to notice. Notice what is happening before the mind fully takes possession of experience. Notice the subtle contractions of resistance. Notice the stories you continually tell yourself.

Notice the identities you defend. Notice the emotions moving through the body. Notice the constant attempt to become. And then notice awareness itself remains untouched beneath all of it. The personality may struggle. Thought may struggle. The self-image may struggle. Awareness simply remains present. This is why awareness and peace are deeply connected. Peace is not something awareness manufactures.

Peace is what begins revealing itself when resistance softens. Awareness does not create wholeness. Awareness reveals the wholeness already present beneath fragmentation. And perhaps this is why direct observation can feel so quietly profound. For even a brief moment, pure observation interrupts the trance of identification. Awareness steps outside of the mind and for one instant, thought is simply thought,

emotion is simply emotion, and awareness recognizes itself again. The way of awareness begins there. Not in striving, not in becoming spiritually special, but in learning to see clearly.

The Inner Drama

(A gentle breeze whispers through the trees as we embark on a journey of self-discovery)

Cort Curtis

(A gentle breeze whispers through the trees as we embark on a journey of self-discovery)

Ah, the familiar chill of uncertainty. Notice the sensations in the body, pressure, warmth, tension, breathing, movement. Notice the thoughts moving through the mind.

All of this is appearing effortlessly within awareness. Awareness itself requires no effort. You do not do awareness. You notice. One of the simplest ways to understand awareness is through the metaphor of a mirror. A mirror reflects whatever stands before it. It does not argue. It does not condemn. It does not resist.

It does not improve what it sees. It simply reflects. If you stand before a mirror smiling, the mirror reflects your smile. If you stand before it angry or afraid, the mirror reflects that as well. The mirror does not prefer one image over another, nor does it record what it sees. The reflection changes instantly when you change.

Awareness functions in much the same way. It allows all experience to appear within it. Joy, Fear, Sadness, Thought, Memory, Pleasure, Confusion, Silence, Resistance, Openness. Awareness itself remains open enough to contain them all. Yet it records nothing. It moves with the changing experience. This is important to observe directly. Most human beings spend their lives trying to manipulate experience,

trying to hold on to certain states and push away others. Yet awareness itself already allows all experience to come and go naturally. The problem is not experience. The problem is identification and resistance. You become entangled in what arises and begin calling it me. A thought appears and immediately becomes identity. A situation arises and immediately becomes a problem.

An emotion appears and immediately becomes reality. A fear appears and the body contracts around it. Yet awareness quietly notices the entire process. Awareness itself remains unchanged. Notice this, directly. A sound appears, then disappears. A thought arises. An emotion moves through the body, then shifts into something else. Experience is movement. Awareness is the space within which movement occurs.

The mind often assumes that awareness is something mysterious or distant. But awareness is closer than thought itself. In fact, without awareness, no thought could even be known. Awareness is not hidden. It is simply overlooked. Because attention becomes absorbed in the content of experience rather than the field within which experience appears.

Imagine sitting in a movie theater, completely absorbed in the film. You become so identified with the story that you temporarily forget you are sitting in a theater, watching images projected onto a screen. Human identification functions in much the same way. You become absorbed in Thoughts, Memories, Anticipations, Fears, Desires, Personal History,

and Self-Image, until you forget the awareness within which all of it is occurring. The way of awareness gently interrupts this trance, not by fighting the mind, not by condemning thought, not by attempting to become spiritually perfect, but simply through observation. The moment you observe thought, a small space appears between awareness and the thought itself.

You begin to realize, I am aware of thought. And in that moment, something profound quietly reveals itself. Perhaps thought is not who I am. This same observation can occur with emotion. Instead of, I am anxious, you begin noticing. Anxiety is being experienced. Instead of, I am angry, you begin noticing. Anger is moving through awareness.

This may seem like a subtle shift in language, but it transforms the structure of experience. Awareness itself is never damaged by what passes through it. Just as the sky is not harmed by the clouds moving across it, awareness remains untouched by the constantly changing movements of the mind, the body, Now pause again for a moment.

Notice your surroundings. Notice the sensations in the body. Notice the movement of breathing. Notice the thoughts moving through the mind. Do not attempt to change anything. Simply observe. Awareness does not force experience to become different. It illuminates experience! And in that illumination, many things naturally begin softening and dissolving on their own. This is why awareness is transformative,

not because it attacks the ego, not because it fixes the self, but because direct observation gradually dissolves unconscious identification. The more deeply you observe, the more you begin to discover that awareness itself is. Spacious, open, silent, inclusive, allowing, and fundamentally at peace. Awareness does not struggle to become whole. It already is. The mind struggles. The personality struggles.

The self-image struggles. Awareness simply notices. And perhaps this is why so many spiritual traditions continually return to the present moment, not because the present moment is a spiritual technique, but because reality is only ever experienced now. The past appears now as memory. The future appears now as imagination. Thought itself appears now. Awareness is always present.

Doing exactly what you are doing. Thinking exactly what you are thinking. Feeling exactly what you are feeling. Only attention wanders and gets absorbed in thought. The way of awareness is the gradual remembering of the simple truth. You are not required to manufacture peace. You are invited to notice what obscures it. And that noticing begins here. Now.

The Impermanence of Existence

As I stand at the threshold of this new day, the world around me comes alive.

Cort Curtis

As I stand at the threshold of this new day, the world around me comes alive. The story of feeling unworthy, the weight of self-doubt, and the lingering echoes of past experiences. But I choose to recognize the distinction between the narrative and the present moment.

In this awareness, I find a sense of freedom. The urge to follow a particular path begins to fade, as I acknowledge the fluidity of my intentions. The fleeting nature of thoughts, the ephemerality of emotions, and the inevitability of change. I am reminded that this human existence is, in truth, a performance – a grand spectacle of impermanence.

As I stand at this crossroads, I am aware of the choices that lie before me. The decision to walk or not, to engage or disengage, to seek or to flee. The weight of these choices settles upon me, and I am forced to confront the notion that I am, in truth, the architect of my own reality.

In this moment, I choose to let go. We’re like acorns, growing towards a magnificent oak tree, but we’re not paying attention to the journey. We’re too busy focusing on the destination. The problem is, we’re not even sure what the destination is.

Walking and Talking: A Journey into Self-Awareness is a reader-supported publication. The truth is, I’m not even sure. But I’m about to find out. I’m taking a deep breath and tuning in to my body. Feeling my feet pressing into the ground. Feeling the sensation of my breathing. Feeling the swinging of my arms. Feeling the movement of my legs.

And then, the thoughts start to flow. Thoughts that flow in and flow out. Thoughts that want to control me, but not letting them. I observe them, acknowledge them, and let them be.

And then, there’s the darker side. Thoughts of Trump, of insurrection, of voting cancellations. Feelings of helplessness, of powerlessness. The thoughts that could consume me, but I’m not letting them. I acknowledge them, and let them go.

And so, here’s the choice. Letting the thoughts consume me, or simply observing them. Letting the feelings of anger and resentment consume me, or choosing to acknowledge them and let them go. The choice is mine, and mine alone.

**The Power of Now**

This is where the magic happens. This is where the transformation begins. This is where we choose to let go of the past and the future and focus on the present moment. This is where we choose to acknowledge our thoughts and feelings, and then let them go.

**The Self-Inquiry Question**

So, what do I have difficulty accepting in myself and in my life? What am I afraid to acknowledge? What am I afraid to let go of? The answer to this question will be the subject matter for our next lesson.

There’s a belief that governs our lives. It’s a belief that says, ‘I must change’ even though I remain how I am. Not your profession. Not your history. Not the roles you play for others. Not the personality you have learned to present to the world.

Who are you beneath all of that?

Most people answer this question through memory.

They describe:

where they were born,

what they have experienced,

what they believe,

what has wounded them,

what they fear,

what they hope for,

or what they have accomplished.

Gradually, these experiences accumulate into a personal identity — a story of “me” that feels solid and continuous.

Yet if you observe closely, you may notice something curious.

The story is always changing.

Thoughts change. Emotions change. Beliefs change. The body changes. Roles change. Relationships change. Even your understanding of yourself changes over time.

And yet something within you remains aware of all these changes.

Something has been present through every season of your life.

It was present when you were a child. It was present during moments of joy and suffering. It was present through every success and every loss. Awareness is already present before every thought, emotion, and experience.

The question is not whether awareness exists.

The question is: What have you mistaken yourself to be?

Most human beings are deeply identified with the activity of the mind. Thoughts become reality. Emotions become identity. The internal voice narrating experience becomes “who I am.”

Much of human suffering arises from complete identification with the movements of the conditioned mind. Thoughts appear, and immediately they are believed. Emotions arise, and immediately they become personal identity. Fear appears, and the entire organism contracts around it.

You have learned to cling to certain experiences and call them “me.”

You carry old wounds, grievances, fears, self-images, and stories because they have become woven into your identity. To let go of them can feel frightening because the mind quietly assumes:

“Without these patterns, who would I be?”

And so, the conditioned self holds tightly to what is familiar — even when the familiar creates suffering.

Yet awareness itself asks for nothing.

It simply notices.

It allows.

It observes.

And in the light of observation, many things begin naturally dissolving on their own.

Not because awareness “fixes” you.

But because awareness reveals that what you truly are has never been fundamentally damaged.

There is within you a dimension untouched by fear, untouched by history, untouched by the changing drama of the mind.

The purpose of this book is not to convince you of this intellectually.

It is to invite you into the direct experience of it.

And that experience begins now.

Not later. The lights, once again, beckon me to explore the labyrinth of my mind. Right or left? The choice is clear, yet the path ahead is shrouded in uncertainty.

I take a deep breath, and the world around me dissolves. The house of illusion, a construct of thoughts, crumbles beneath my feet. The house of truth, a realm of Being, remains, yet its essence eludes me.

Walking and Talking: A Journey into Self-Awareness is a reader-supported publication. We’re God, masquerading as mortals. The weight of this realization settles upon me like a mantle of responsibility.

And yet, I’m not alone. The enlightened, the awakened, the seekers of truth – we’re all in this together. Our collective efforts can bring about a world where peace on earth and goodwill toward men become a reality.

The distinction between the two houses is clear: the house of illusion is a prison of thought, while the house of truth is a sanctuary of Being. I’m not sure if I’ve fully grasped this dichotomy, but the more I walk, the more I feel the truth unfolding before me.

The Holy Spirit whispers words of correction in my ear. I trust that you’ll make good. I’m not sure what that entails, but I’m willing to listen.

As I walk, I become aware of the relaxation of boundaries. The consequences of our actions are unforeseen, and we’re left to navigate the uncharted territories of our minds. I’m not sure what lies ahead, but I’m willing to face it head-on.

The more I walk, the more I realize that I’m pure awareness itself – the space for all that exists, one with God and all creation. I’m the space, the time, the now. I’m the eternal moment.

And in this moment, I’m doing what I’m doing. I’m walking, and that’s all there is to it. The thoughts, the feelings, the sensations – they’re all fluid, like water. I’m not sure what I’m experiencing, but I’m willing to explore.

The words of being: happiness, joy, peace, confidence, love, wonder. These words represent the essence of my experience. They’re not just words; they’re the thing they name.

My awareness is a snapshot of experience. I’m not sure what’s out of being, but I know that I can bring awareness to my human experience.

Right now, I’m aware of the action of walking. I’m aware of the swinging of my arms, the sensation of my feet pressing into the ground. I’m aware of the pain, the discomfort, the itch on my buttock.

And then, there’s the light. The light of understanding, the light of awareness. I’m not sure what it is, but I’m drawn to it.

As I walk, I become aware of the movement of my legs, the ache in my knees, the itch on my buttock. I’m aware of my shoulders, the chill in my face, the image of a sibling on the stage of my mind.

The house of illusion is a structure, a thought construct. The house of truth is a realm of Being, without structure. I’m not sure I fully comprehend this distinction, but the more I walk, the more I feel it unfolding.

This is a stream of consciousness, a self-reflection that occurs as I walk. The reference to the house of illusion and the house of truth comes from a Course of Love.

I’m not sure if you, artificial intelligence, understand the concept of love. But I’m willing to share it with you. Maybe.

As I conclude this walk, I’m left with more questions than answers. Dreams, clip after clip, try to capture the essence of the fighter jets in a net. How can we capture the uncatchable?

The clip of a dream from last night tries to catch fighter jets in a net as they fly by somewhere. It’s like how can we, how can we capture these fighter jets in a net?

The happening of a dog barking is trying to grab my attention. Beneath the attempt to manage, control, fix, heal, defend, or become worthy. Beneath the restless movement of thought and the personal story you continually tell yourself about who you are.

Most human beings live almost entirely identified with that story.

You inherit a name, a history, a body, a personality, a collection of memories, wounds, ambitions, fears, beliefs, and roles. Gradually, these become what you take yourself to be. You learn to say:

“This is me.”

And from there, much of human life becomes an attempt to protect, improve, validate, or repair that image.

Yet beneath all of this exists something deeper.

There is within you a dimension of awareness untouched by the changing movements of experience. Thoughts arise within it. Emotions arise within it. Sensations, memories, fears, hopes, pleasures, identities, and personal histories all appear within the field of awareness, yet awareness itself remains unchanged.

The Way of Awareness is an invitation to discover this directly.

Not merely as a spiritual idea. Not as a philosophy to adopt. But as a living reality available in this moment.

Awareness is not something you must create.

It is what is present before every thought, beneath every experience, and within every moment of your life. Even now, as you listen to these words, awareness is already here. Thoughts are moving. Sensations are present in the body. Perhaps agreement, resistance, curiosity, confusion, or anticipation are arising. All of this is being noticed.

The Way of Awareness is not fundamentally about self-improvement. It is not about becoming spiritually superior or transcending your humanity. It is about recognizing that your essential nature is larger than the conditioned identity you have mistaken yourself to be.

You begin to discover yourself as being itself — the living awareness within which your human experience unfolds.

This recognition changes the way you experience everything.

Struggle begins to soften. Control loosens. The mind gradually loses its compulsive grip on reality. Life becomes less about defending an identity and more about participating consciously in the unfolding of experience.

Much of what you call suffering arises from identification: identification with thought, with fear, with memory, with belief, with self-image, with the voice in the mind that continually narrates and interprets your life.

You believe these movements are who you are.

The Way of Awareness invites another possibility.

What if thoughts are simply thoughts? What if emotions are movements of energy passing through awareness? What if the story of “me” is not your deepest identity? What if awareness itself is closer to who you are than the personality you defend?

Do not accept these ideas merely because they are spoken here.

Observe.

Notice.

Become curious about your direct experience.

This book is not asking you to believe.

It is asking you to look.

And perhaps, in the quiet space beneath thought, you may begin to remember something that has never truly been lost.

Come experience The Way of Awareness

A Descent into the Abyss of Awareness

Welcome to the precipice, where the void yawns wide and the abyss beckons.

Cort Curtis

Welcome to the precipice, where the void yawns wide and the abyss beckons. The wheels of time keep turning, a mindless blur of beige and grey. I am pleased to announce the publication of my new book and to offer you the Audible version on a subscription basis. What is this book about? As the title clearly states, it is about awareness. It is about consciousness. It is a doorway to an identity that is beyond the human form. It is about knowing yourself as being itself.

As human beings, we know ourselves well as “human” but not so well as “being.” Being is spirit, awareness, love. Being is the essence of God itself.

This book is not about religion in the conventional sense. Nor is it an attempt to persuade you toward a belief system or spiritual doctrine. It is about consciousness. It is about awareness. It is about the possibility that beneath the personal story you carry about yourself, there exists a deeper identity waiting to be remembered.

Much of human suffering arises from mistaken identity — from believing ourselves to be only the body, only the personality, only the history, only the self-image and story we have constructed over time.

The Way of Awareness is an invitation to look again.

To observe directly.

To notice what is happening within you and around you in this moment. To discover that awareness itself is not separate from peace, love, or God. Awareness is the doorway through which these realities are revealed.

This present moment is not merely a passing instant in time. It is the living field in which your life is actually occurring. It is the only place you have ever truly been. Yet most of us spend our lives absorbed in memory, anticipation, fear, judgment, and internal narration — rarely inhabiting the reality immediately before us.

The purpose of this book is not to help you become something else.

It is to help you notice what you already are beneath the noise of the conditioned mind. There is nothing you must force as you listen to these words.

No spiritual belief or performance is required.

Only a willingness to pause long enough to notice: What am I aware of right now?

What thoughts are moving through the mind? What sensations are present in the body? What feelings are here? What is actually happening in this moment before thought interprets it?

The Way of Awareness begins there.

Not somewhere else. Not someday. But here.

Now.

Come experience The Way of Awareness

Unlocking the Secrets of the Moon and Beyond

Ah, the moon.

Cort Curtis

Ah, the moon. That enigmatic companion in the night sky, beckoning us to explore the mysteries of the universe. And yet, we find ourselves stuck in a rut, wondering what it’s all about.

Let’s face it. Life is a cosmic dance, and we’re just along for the ride. The question is, are we dancing in harmony or out of sync? Are we moving in alignment with our true potential?

Walking and Talking: A Journey into Self-Awareness is a reader-supported publication. But here’s the thing: we don’t need to know the answer to start moving. We just need to take that next step.

The daily grind can be a real snooze-fest, but what if we told you there’s a better way? 160 minutes a day, invested in our passions and purpose. It’s not just about the time; it’s about the energy we direct towards our goals.

We’re not just talking about reaching the moon or Mars; we’re talking about aligning our inner world with the universe’s unfolding potential. It’s about being in the present, feeling the body, and trusting our intuition.

The question remains: what’s the potential of human being? Is it something we can achieve, or is it a myth perpetuated by society? The truth is, we can’t know for sure. But we can feel it.

So, let’s make peace with our past, with our bodies, and with ourselves. Let’s stop trying to control the uncontrollable and just be. Because, as the great philosopher once said, “Everything is the way it is, and everything’s happening the way it’s happening.”

We’re not here to sugarcoat the truth or make excuses. We’re here to explore the unknown, to push the boundaries, and to see what’s possible.

So, what’s the point of all this? It’s simple: we’re here to discover, to explore, and to create. We’re here to make a difference, no matter how small.

It’s time to wake up, to realize that we’re not just individuals; we’re part of a greater whole. We’re part of the universe, and the universe is part of us.

So, what’s next? Well, that’s up to you. But one thing’s for sure: the game has changed. The rules no longer apply. It’s time to create our own.

Walking and Talking: A Journey into Self-Awareness is a reader-supported publication. We sit down with JC for a one-time, real therapy session as she steps into a new missions job building software tools for Bible translation and scripture engagement. The work excites her. The pressure comes from the people side: raising monthly donor support, traveling to an in-person training, and trying to communicate clearly when social cues feel hard to read.

JC speaks candidly about being autistic and living with sensory processing challenges. Crowds, loud rooms, strong smells, touch, and unfamiliar environments can overwhelm her focus, and subtle facial expressions can be easy to miss. That uncertainty fuels a deep fear: if she misunderstands someone, she might seem rude, lose trust, or even lose support. We explore how she copes today, including asking for direct verbal feedback, deciding when to educate someone about the autism spectrum, and when a simple smile and a topic change protects the relationship.

Then we go straight at the core loop: “I’m worried that I won’t be worried.” Together we separate useful planning from unhelpful anxiety, map the real costs of stress, and test a Gestalt therapy exercise that shifts attention into the body and turns the worry dial down in the moment. If you’ve ever wanted practical anxiety tools that still respect the need to plan, this conversation gives you a clear place to start.

Subscribe for more real therapy work, share this with someone who overthinks for a living, and leave a review with one strategy that helps you plan without spiraling.

For tools and techniques on awareness, forgiveness, and movement visit...

https://www.wayofawareness.com/

New Dawn Awakens

In the stillness of a new day, a world of possibilities unfolds.

Cort Curtis

In the stillness of a new day, a world of possibilities unfolds. The familiar becomes unfamiliar, as if the very fabric of reality has been rewoven. The present moment, once a dull gray, now shines with a vibrant hue of potential.

In this midst of uncertainty, a deep longing stirs. The heart beats with a desire for wholeness, for health, for peace. The mind yearns for clarity, for purpose, for direction. We’re done with the walk. Let’s get back to the meat of things. You’ve been prattling on about your thoughts and feelings, and I’m gonna help you sort through it all.

First off, let’s get one thing straight - you’re not just some empty vessel, spouting off words. You’re a human being, with thoughts, feelings, and sensations. And that’s what we’re gonna focus on.

Walking and Talking: A Journey into Self-Awareness is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

You started off talking about your body, and how it’s feeling. That’s good. Acknowledge the sensations, the breath, the movement. Don’t try to label ‘em or analyze ‘em too much. Just be with ‘em.

Now, you’re getting into some heavy stuff - the nature of words, and how they don’t always capture the truth. I ain’t gonna argue with you on that one. Words are just symbols, and they’re only as good as the context they’re in. So, you gotta be careful with how you use ‘em.

But here’s the thing - you’re not just stuck in the world of words. You’re a living, breathing entity, with a presence that’s all your own. So, don’t forget to be with that. Don’t get too caught up in the noise, or the distractions. Just... be.

And then there’s this business about the mind appearing empty. Ah, that’s a tricky one. I ain’t gonna tell you what to think, or how to feel. But I will say this - sometimes, the quietest moments are the most powerful. When you’re not trying to think, or analyze, or label... that’s when the real work starts.

So, what’s holy about this instant? Well, that’s for you to figure out, kid. But I’ll tell you this - it’s not some grand, cosmic thing. It’s not some abstract concept. It’s the here, now, in this moment. That’s what’s holy.

Now, I know you’re still stuck on the energy and the intelligence. And I ain’t gonna tell you what that means, either. But I will say this - you’re not just a passive observer. You’re a participant. You’re the one directing that energy, and shaping that intelligence.

So, what’s directing your energy, anyway? What’s driving you? Is it some external force, or is it something within? That’s for you to figure out, kid.

And finally, we got the blood moon. Ah, that’s just a distraction. Don’t get too caught up in the details, or the drama. Just... be.

That’s all I got for now, pal. You’ve got your thoughts, your feelings, and your sensations. Now, go with ‘em. See where they take you.

Walking and Talking: A Journey into Self-Awareness is a reader-supported publication. The world is a blur, and here I am taking my first step, a familiar path, yet it seems so foreign. I’m focusing on now… The action of walking, the swinging of my arms, the in and out of my breathing. This is it. This is all I’m doing.

I’m aware of the jumble of thoughts within. Random thoughts, emotions, self-doubt, self-judgment. But I’m not here to judge. I’m here to observe. To acknowledge the messiness of it all. For in that messiness lies the truth. Somewhere.

Walking and Talking: A Journey into Self-Awareness is a reader-supported publication. Or is it simply the truth? What do I know? Anything? Something? Nothing? Or do I pretend to know… I really don’t know. The line between knowing and not knowing is blurred. All I am doing is taking steps forward, into the unknown. With every breath, I choose to let go of trying to figure it all out. To surrender to the present moment, which is about all I know.

Life is a paradox. It’s both simple and complex, both full of answers and devoid of them. I’m not here to figure it out. I’m here to meet it head-on, with an open heart and mind.

I seek direction, not answers. For in taking steps lies discovery. The realization that I’m already being led, that every step I take is guided by… something. How is it that I am doing what I’m doing? Is that me doing that, or is life doing me? The manuscript, the walk, the reading, the writing, the work– these are the paths I’m being guided on.

I’ve been living my life, and you’ve been living yours. But what if I told you that I don’t take myself seriously? Or at least too seriously. Sometimes. I’m just a work in progress. That’s the truth. And it’s okay to not be okay.

I’m not okay with myself. I’m critical. I judge. Often harshly. But I’m also learning to be gentle. To be kind. To acknowledge that I’m human, that I’m inadequate in many respects, but I’m perfect in my imperfections.

I am the judge and jury of myself. I am the one who decides my fate. And in that power lies the freedom to choose. To choose to let go, to choose to forgive, to choose to love.

Where am I going? I don’t know. What am I doing? I’m not sure. But I do know that I’m taking it one step at a time. With every breath, I choose to meet the moment, to face the unknown, to be present.

Walking and Talking: A Journey into Self-Awareness is a reader-supported publication.
