I’ve been binge watching gardening videos as I plan for my gardening season ahead. I like to keep things simple with low maintenance options. The older I grow, the more I desire simplicity.

Also, I have a friend who is bringing me some more sedum plants. Last year she gave me some Autumn Joy Sedum. They’re a hardy, low-maintenance perennial that work well for those hard-to-grow-anything spots. They’re still thriving, so I’m so excited that she’s giving me a few more. That’s a real hug from God! :)

I remember how good God was to me in my first pregnancy, while my husband was in Bible college. Yes, the budget was tight, but God was not small in His blessings.

I had quite a few clothes that I got by with wearing most of my pregnancy because I didn’t gain weight drastically due to working hard in a school cafeteria and also experiencing nausea up until the day I gave birth.

The days were busy for both of us, but on one occasion, my hubby and I were out for fun browsing in a local mall. I saw the most adorable maternity dress. I knew we couldn’t afford it, but still decided to show my hubby anyway… making it clear that I KNEW we couldn’t afford it… “But look! Isn’t it so pretty though?!”

Life carried on as normal and about a month later, a dear friend of mine called from a few states away… her sister had given her some maternity dresses, and there were a few she couldn’t wear. She was going to ship them to me.

When I opened the box, there was the EXACT same dress I had shown my husband. I could only stand there with my mouth wide open in awe!

Do we not serve an amazing God who can give us the desires of our heart?! Oh yes! God is so good and amazing!!

I hadn’t necessary prayed for that dress, but God gave it to me anyway. Over the years, I’ve learned, though, how God can and does answer our prayers.

This week literally whizzed by! It kind of seemed like an unadventurous week… meaning, I did everything in robotic style… you know the “same old” things you always do… clean the toilet and toss in another load of laundry and wash the dishes.

I got to spend time with my dad three different days in a row… and he mentioned cornbread. So, the next day I made him some fresh cornbread… and the recipe I use always seems to work out so well being moist and not dry. I LOVE slathering on a ton of butter! Yum!

I grew up having leftover cornbread the next morning doused inside a cup of milk, eating it with a spoon like you do cereal. So good! Have you enjoyed that breakfast treat? (I like to warm the cornbread up just a bit before pouring on the milk.)

Well, this week I created some printables that are perfect for journaling, Scripture writing, sermon notes, devotionals and more….

What’s unique about these is that I used REAL vintage images from the public domain works.

I’ve been heading up the “Housekeeping Project” for our church. We have a rather large facility to maintain. So, I conducted a short meeting after church last Sunday… and let’s just say, it was waaaay out my comfort zone to lead and talk in front of a bunch of people.

The meeting is over…big sigh of relief. But the cleaning work ahead is never ending, as you know. haha.

QUESTION: I do have one question from one of my volunteers… how do you get off shoe scuff marks from the stairways? (For your information, the stairs are covered with a material that’s kind of a rubber-type texture.) There are a lot of stairs there, so I don’t want to waste too much time & money testing out every single cleaning product out there… I’d rather ask my readers if they have a good product suggestion?

Okay… on to today’s topic…

The “fear of the Lord” can sound like an unpleasant response towards God, but biblically it’s deeply life-giving.

🌿 What Is the Fear of the Lord?

The “fear of the Lord” is not a heart-cringing terror for believers in Christ, but a reverent awareness of His holiness that produces wisdom, obedience, purity, and blessings.

The fear of the Lord is a healthy respect towards God… it draws us closer to God, not farther. Consider the following perspectives:

• A reverent awe of God — He is holy, more powerful than all, just, righteous, eternal, etc.

• A full respect of God — Honoring Him above all else.

• An alignment of yourself to God’s moral standards and not the world’s — hating what He hates and loving what He loves.

• A humble submission to God — Knowing He is the ultimate authority and submitting yourself to His will.

• An understanding of consequences set by God — Sin always brings unpleasant consequences.

• Your loyalty as a child of God — walking carefully because you belong to Him.

My week was semi-productive… I suppose I have all the necessary things done, but could I have done more? Of course! I’m starting to get that urge for Spring Cleaning… does that happen to you before spring actually gets here? haha

One thing I definitely need to get busy with is planning my gardening season. I always try to keep things simple… but definitely planting more pickle bush cucumbers this year. Loved growing & eating those so much last year!

10 KJV Bible Verses - Pondering on God’s Promises

1. Promises of God’s Presence

God is with us. We are not alone.

• Hebrews 13:5 – “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

• Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

These are great Bible verses to lean on if you carry responsibility such as a teacher, ministry leader, mother, caregiver, etc. The promise isn’t absence of difficulty… it’s God’s presence in it.

2. Promises of Provision

God supplies what we truly need.

• Philippians 4:19 – “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

• Psalm 37:4–5 – “Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

Provision isn’t always flashy — sometimes it’s quiet daily grace. But it’s steady.

3. Promises of Peace

Jesus calms our troubled hearts.

• John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

This Bible verse is so good to quote during the nighttime if you’re wide awake from worries. (*See my post 10 Bible Verses to Help You Sleep More Peacefully)

4. Promises of Forgiveness & Cleansing

God is faithful in forgiving.

• 1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

This one feels tender and freeing…we can know our guilt can be completely released with confidence because God is faithful to forgive when we confess our sins.

5. Promises of Guidance & Wisdom

God directs and gives understanding.

• James 1:5 – “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

God is willing to load us abundantly with wisdom — just ask! Wisdom for decisions. Wisdom for leadership. Wisdom for family matters.

6. Promises of Strength & Help in Temptation

God equips us to endure.

• 1 Corinthians 10:13 – “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

• Romans 8:28 – “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

• Philippians 4:13 — “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

These Bible verses remind us that God gives us sufficient strength to handle life’s circumstances, and He’s ever working behind the scenes even when we don’t see it.

I’ve been doodling away… last week I challenged myself to draw another hand… since I was working on some images for March’s theme with growth and planting, etc. I can tell you… drawing people, hands & feet are NOT my forte. lol

Yesterday, I enjoyed a wonderful outing with my family in honor of celebrating my mom’s 80th Birthday, although this is actually her first birthday in Heaven.

I took a cheap wooden frame, varnished it, added some buttons from my mom’s button collection... and added a few other embellishments to frame this photo for her 80th birthday celebration today.

Yesterday, I also launched my Image File Cabinet — Free doodle art for your ministry or creative projects, etc. in honor of my mom’s birthday. (I still have a ton more doodles & images to add.)

Hollywood and our modern culture seem to find it acceptable and even humorous to lie and be dishonest. As a Christian, we should not forget the importance of honesty and speaking the truth.

So we were snowed in last weekend. Our little car just couldn’t bear to drag its little wheels out of our driveway. Of course, once my hubby finally did get it out of our long driveway, it still couldn’t handle our sideroad. In our little town, the side roads are kind of neglected.

(Not complaining about our little town though! I have NOT missed living in the big city one bit! I feel so much less stressed living in a smaller area.)

And, this morning, we’re right at ZERO degrees. LOL I’m wearing my warmest sweater again. I LOVE this thing for extra cold days.

I’ve been working here behind the scenes to launch a project that I’ve been dragging my feet on since last year. I’m hoping to launch it next Friday on my mom’s birthday (February 6th) (she would have been 80!).

Okay, now on to this week’s topic… “Obedience to God.”

Do you realize how BLESSED we are when we submit to God’s Word and His authority?! In Luke 11:23 (kjv) Jesus says we’re blessed to hear God’s word and also do it! “But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”

So, this week I want to encourage you to not only read, hear and meditate on God’s Word daily, but to also be active in doing it and obeying it.

It’s colder than ice here. lol. I’m wearing the warmest sweater I own today.

Earlier today, I decided to drag out all my saved chicken bones from the freezer to make some chicken stock on the stove. It’s the perfect time to add warmth to our house while it simmers…

Now my house smells like chicken soup. Mmm. My plan is to use some of the chicken stock to make Chicken Taco Soup. I actually swap out the black beans for black-eyed peas because my hubby loves black-eyed peas… so why not?! ha! (I’ve done it before and it’s delicious!)

My youngest son came to town and surprised me a cinnamon bun flavored coffee and a caramel chocolate pecan cookie. He’s the sweetest son in the world… but, oh, how am I going to get off all the added holiday pounds like this?! haha!

For my church, I’ve been working on creating volunteer sheets for our church housekeeping plan. Our pastor wanted me to create different cleaning zones and the responsibilities of each area. This has ended up being a good-sized project because we have a LOT of area to cover.

Also, I’m pondering and praying about the next online project to focus on. My brain is always full of ideas, but yet, my time is limited, so I want to choose wisely with something that I can handle consistently; therefore, it has to be simple as well.

This week whizzed by… I mean it was like Monday just yesterday. haha My week was stuffed with some blessings & challenges though...

My dad took me to a local pizza place nearby where he lives. They have a fantastic budget lunch price right now…. so, I ate a huge salad and some pizza that that was like a cheeseburger with pickles and mustard. haha (When I was a young thing, and you might have told me someday that I’d love a pizza with dill pickles slathered on top, I would have laughed till I cried. But here I am a half century old and it’s a new favorite. haha.)

Once again, it’s turned freezing cold… and guess it’s perfect timing (not!) for some car troubles on my hubby’s vehicle. Yes, the challenges of life are always there for you and me. We need to cast all these things on God… because that’s truly where the peace lies in knowing that God cares about these things, too, and will help us through them. (I Peter 5:7)

Good morning,

January has almost felt like spring lately… but I’m not yet ready to let go of my comfy sweaters, nor start mowing the lawn again… so let’s keep winter just a bit longer. haha

I’m slowing down my pace a LOT this year. I’m tired of rushing through life and not enjoying the moment. That also means that I’m slowing down my Bible reading… so, I read and re-read and study Scripture slowly instead of running like a race to just check off some boxes.

My birthday came and went… yes, I’m a big 58 now. I was so blessed to be surrounded by my family.

I LOVE being older now… there’s a bit more wisdom and confidence that I didn’t have when I was younger. (Still growing in wisdom, though, and asking God to help me there. ~ James 1:5 KJV)

But…I think the hardest part of growing older, for me, has been seeing my parents grow older and more fragile. It’s not necessarily the “golden years.” My mom is now enjoying Heaven… and I’m loving my dad more and more each day… I’m so proud of him. He’s having to learn to live without my mom… and he’s doing a great job! But my heart aches… I know he misses my mom every single day. And so, do I.

Also wanted to add… One other thing of growing older is my own personal challenge of maintaining good health.

Well, today I’ve collected 10 Bible verses about the “Nature of God.” This certainly is not a full list of ALL that God is… He’s so much more…. earthly pages could not fill it all!!!

2025 was indeed one of the roughest years I’ve faced, but it’s time to get focused and embrace the new year ahead.

One of the things I always use every year is some type of planner. I prefer writing on real paper for my home maintenance and personal planning… No charging up my phone or tablet first just to see what’s on my to-do list for the day. (Although digital planners do have their purpose for me with my online projects.)

For the first time ever, I feel like I have finally settled on a perfect yearly planner for me. (The one I chose for the second time in a row, for this upcoming year, is actually pretty cheap.)

The stipulations for my perfect planner were gathered over the last few years of trial… features that I’ve liked and realizing ones that I hated.

10 things I like in a perfect planner for “me”:

1. Must lay flat. I want to be able to write without trying to hold the pages down. I’ve purchased planners & journals in the past that were a source of frustration to me because it wouldn’t lie flat when I was writing — and the pages were like swatting at a pesky fly

2. Must have the spiral binder and not an overly large size. So, in the past, I did find planners that laid flat, but then it took up too much space next to my computer. I didn’t like it taking up so much space; I wanted to be able to fold my planner over to look at only the half that displayed my day’s to-do’s rather than the need of seeing the entire week spread out. (A5, 6.3” x 8.5” is my favorite size for my desk.)

3. Must have tabs. Two years ago, I thought I found the perfect planner but soon realized I needed those monthly tabs on the side so that I can easily jump a month or two or more ahead to jot down an event for the future.

4. Must have a hard cover. Those flimsy plastic covers sure have some cute designs, and are flexible, but by the end of the year, it seems to let the pages and corners get bent more easily.

5. Fancy is not so cute after all. One year I bought this cute planner that had fun doodles scattered here and there on the pages. I thought it would be quite inspirational, but in the long run, it was way too distracting for my brain. I want only a simple, white layout and a clean slate for each day to write down my to-dos. (I do; however, enjoy placing stickers on the right side after the day is over, sort of like a “reward” for a habit I’m working on or a super productive day.)

6. A little pocket in the front or back of the planner. It’s not a real deal breaker, but I do love being able to tuck in a 3x5 card or an extra memo into a pocket that’s tucked inside the cover page.

7. I need simple. One monthly planner page for each month and all the daily/weekly ones following the month page is all I need. Too many extras in my planner, and I get overwhelmed or lost. One time, though, I purchased a planner that only had the days and weeks — and no monthly layouts included. That just wasn’t sufficient…so let’s not get too simplified either.

8. Must be dated. One time I bought an undated planner, thinking I would save on wasted pages for those weeks when I’m sick or simply not doing any new projects. I wasn’t happy for long trying to write out the dates each week… plus, I couldn’t pop way ahead to add in an event for the future.

9. A cute cover. Okay, this is another one that isn’t a deal breaker… but let’s be real, we like a cute design for our planner. It’s fun picking out a new design each year. I’m just uninspired by an ugly planner. haha.

10. Thick paper and not too thin. Nothing like writing on your weekly planner and then turning it over to the next week and seeing half the stuff “backwards” you wrote on the previous page. ugh. Sometimes I like using a highlighter over important stuff, and don’t want it easily bleeding through on thin pages.

Quick update on my dad… my dad ended up with pneumonia and very sick. He is now on some strong antibiotics and improving in slow steps. Please do keep him in prayer.

As for me, I’m struggling with a sinus infection and double ear infection and will be taking antibiotics for the next 7 days.

I want to wish you all now a “Happy Thanksgiving” … as I will be taking next week off with the holiday upon us.

I’m guilty… I’m guilty of hearing the things I need to do and not following through with action.

As we age, we should also be maturing in our spiritual growth… reading our Bible, praying, being faithful… but let’s not forget about working on taking action in doing what God’s Word says!

Happy Friday… I hope you’re staying warm if you’re in a chilly location. I’m definitely dressing in layers… since it does tend to warm up a bit in the afternoon.

This week I’m in what I call, “maintenance” mode. (By that — I mean I just maintain the absolute important stuff and don’t worry about accomplishing other projects that can wait.)

My 80-year-old dad ended up needing to go to the ER on Saturday evening. It was determined he has influenza A. And just let me say, it’s really set him back and he’s been so miserable. He’s really sick. It took him to the local clinic yesterday and so now we have some more meds.

Unfortunately, I’ve lost much sleep due to worrying. Yes, I should be trusting God, no matter the circumstances… but having lost my mom just recently, it’s been hard not to fret.

I’m working on my faith and trust in God… and begging for His wisdom so that I can help my dad to the best of my ability.

I opened my Bible in Psalms one morning this week after much fretting… and immediately came across a simple Bible verse that urged me back to trusting God during this fearful time…

Notice David doesn’t dismiss “fear” but says during fear… he will trust God.

You and I may have fears… but in those times… we just need to choose and commit our trust to God.

I also came across Philippians 4:4 this week…

“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” ~ Philippians 4:4 KJV

I think this sets my perspective and attitude and mindset back to the best perspective.

Happy SaTuRdAy!

The last couple of months have felt long and dark with grief… and feeling a little lost. I sure do miss my mother. I miss her wit and wisdom… her smile and hugs… her laughs and the comfort food she shared. I really miss our prayers together.

During trials, we just have to hang on tightly to God’s strength and grace when the wind blows so overwhelmingly. He is the One Who is always steadfast when the whirlwinds knock us around.

God is always faithful, and we can always depend upon His promises and His love and mercies.

When we don’t know what to do… we CAN do what we know to do… stay busy like a bee in the work of the LORD… keep reading our Bible, praying, being faithful to our church. Be steadfast!

The other day I was scrolling through Substack notes… and saw Amy’s note idea about presenting the question, “What are you thankful for?” in a community area to prompt people to write something down.

I thought this was such a fun idea for November… so I created a printable and took it to place in the foyer of our church. I didn’t have a spare clipboard on hand, so, I simply used a thin cardboard that I had kept from a previous delivery package and tacked it on there.
