I’ll leave you with this photo of some of my pottery in the wild - the family did a hang at Stinson Vineyards to clutch onto these last days of summer, and I found this lady from a year ago!

They are a new puzzle i’m getting better and better at solving. But the forms and patterns are infinite, so I think i’ll have some room to keep exploring.

Tumblers

The speckled ones remind me of cookies and cream ice cream. The other two have matte on the bottom and shiny on top. I’m really loving that combination.

I love it so much, I made a bookend planter for myself in that color combo:

(I tried to make it large enough to fit a glass dome I have…when I say that it’s off by half a centimeter and really only because one of the handles, you can imagine my groan.)

If you are interested in a glass domed tray like this, i’m happy to talk colors! I have a large one (10.5”) and a smaller one (6”).

Berry Bowls! Both are darling, but the cream speckled one does have a tiny crack - if you’re interested in a highly discounted berry bowl for decor rather than berries (top right hole - cracks technically make it not food safe), let me know.

Custom Requests

This is the largest tray i’ve made yet, and I think it’s the new norm because she felt so good in hand, and looks amazing with matching snack bowls. Also, a grandma cup — her grandson called her “Omoo” instead of “Oma” and the cuteness is all too much.

I experimented with a form someone else created (is anything really new?) but created some drainage for water within the rings. They will be fun sitting out on someone’s counter!

Expresso Mug sets

No handles, but some have thumb/finger dents and others just round. Most of these can now be found at a local Cville coffee shop for the taking.

A low key mug flex

This mug found its way to literally Houston into the hands of a friend who also happens to be an astronaut candidate. He tells me it’s visiting all of the insides of NASA as his work mug My previous life Physics/ Astronomy teacher dreams are coming true and I can’t even.

This tray is just under 12” wide and will be used as part of a grill set wedding gift - so clever! Also a berry bowl and spoon rest set to match kitchen colors.

I’ve made salt pigs before, but someone request we try a salt and pepper pig on a homing tray. These forms can be hard to get the sides flat (clay has memory and loves to try and return to the more rounded shape I originally threw) so it’s not factory perfect - but it is hand made. Space for an oil pourer in the back, or whatever else you want!

Mugs, but different.

Someone requested a mug that would fit her double-portion protein coffee. I didn’t want it to look clownishly big, so here’s what we came up with!

Also in the request were some soup mugs! I am now obsessed with this shape.

Another custom order was for high school graduation gifts, matching the student’s next steps in the fall!

Onto the goods!

Mugs and tumblers #4lyfe. New grid designs on standard 112 speckled clay. (as well as a few other mugs and tumblers). Somehow I am a human obsessed with both Scandinavian type floral designs and also geometrics.

Next, a couple salt pots! (or whatever else you wish to throw in there, of course).

Does anyone even still use fresh garlic in these trying times? I have just given up and purchase the frozen stuff (or heaven forbid JARLIC), but my husband has decided he is now a “fresh garlic” human and that feels just too adult. Also, a friend of mine (who is very expert at adulting - yes girl, flatter yourself) requested a halloween specific garlic holder and she will not be outdone in her love of halloween. See what happens when you ask custom? A fresh garlic holder with grater in the lid!

Need a house number? I can craft that too. This friend sent me the font she preferred and I was able to recreate in colors that match her home.

Lastly, for adding whimsical to your home and garden, some random rage-projects I made one night I needed to just get my hands in clay but not think about the rules — some fun mushroom tops. My next iteration will be a little less rugged (these were just for me) but no less charming.

Next post i’ll be sharing a project i’ve been working on with a local flower farm. I can’t wait to share the results.

I also am just working slowly. Trying to do a better job of paying attention to all the different moments of working with clay, how burnishing and trimming a little more and just noticing in a more focused way effects the outcomes.

So all I have for you is one bird feeder and some berry bowls. But, they’re really lovely, if I can say so.

New glaze combo unlocked on this bird feeder! (Also, i’ve been testing out this bird feeder shape with my own two and it’s working just fine in my book. Though if you don’t like birdseed getting wet, maybe it’s not for you. But to me, that’s some bird-feeding authenticity).

Check out this glaze test!! I’m really excited for where this may go.

Isn’t it wild how order matters so much? One side of the lid is with the new glaze under, and one with over.

Lastly, I’m going to be doing a little mug / tumbler series in this checkered print. It’s really stolen my heart on this speckle clay. I have yellow, red, cactus, and a teal…be on the lookout! (or place an order!)

But I promise it’s really, really cool.

When we moved into our new house, we had three thresholds which had doors that didn’t latch in the usual way. Just pass through style with magnetic closures. While they’re been equally awesome and also frustrating with small children banging them around, I had a brainstorm to take the shiny brass and turn it into custom ceramics. And guys, it worked.

I’ve prototyped some doorknobs in two places — one with dumb black rubber washers and ones with some clear.

Note: I probably need to keep workshopping how to photograph doorknobs.

I feel like I can easily make the shape consistently, and can’t wait to make a few more for the other sides of these doors.

With the freezing temps in the garage, i’ve been very, very slow making some custom orders and experiments. As you’re thinking about spring, keep me in mind!

Here is a custom-order wall planter as well as my own bird feeder prototype. He’s terrifying, but even still, I can not wait to see a bird perched on his mouth.

Lastly, I’m in the works making small and larger berry bowls/colanders. They will be white or cream on speckle brown clay and I think I may have to keep on for myself if they turn out as i’m dreaming. (Below is pre-glazed).

Tomorrow i’m throwing everything from this post, and September’s post out into the front yard for a sale.

Sometimes I look at everything and think… “is that it? that took so long.” This is one of those weeks, and yet I think it’ll be the biggest haul i’ve put out? Some of these were more time / space consuming than usual.

In addition to September’s posted items, i’ve got some new things!

Planters

Toothbrush Holder

I made three of these, but two shattered during firing, so this is the lone survivor. But it has a cool new glaze pattern that reminds me of our Blue Ridge mountains! If you need a custom amount of holes, i’d love to make you one.

Jewelry Stands

These were fuuuuun to make. Attaching a bowl to a pedestal and doing some different carving was a great new experiment for me. The holes are to hang dangly earrings, and the bowl is a catch all.

Host Stands

So I saw someone post this idea (nothing is new!) and gasped. Its a tricky, tricky form because of how everything has to match to not be tippy. The inside is a vase, with two plate layers to put your floral arrangement, Christmas cookies, or what have you.

I have two — one works a charm, and the other has a tippy top layer. I don’t think it’s tippy enough to not sell, but could be discounted (if it wasn’t going to be messed with, like a floral arrangement or something, it’s fine. If people are picking cookies off it it you may need an assist with wax or something). Either way, the vase + tray combination is darling.

Yes, it’s too early. But I couldn’t help myself getting started. I have 12 of these sweet things and will be making more for the last sale before Christmas.

It’s been a loooong time coming, it feels like. And oh how I’ve missed the Christmas sensation of opening up a glaze kiln. But we’re here! And it’s happened! and i’m not certain how I’ll get these into the world, but if you spot something you’re into let me know.

First up, vases!

I’ve always had kind of a “meh” feeling about vase shapes i’ve dreamt up so far…but these I feel differently about. I’m a bit obsessed with the pedestals, belly, and scalloping. Some of these have “party specks” in them and I love the vibe.

Also coming in hot in party specks are some tumblers….the checkers are kind of giving me a “Vans” vibe and I am here. for. it.

…and some party snack bowls!

Another new form — trivets! These are honestly a bit more tough than I anticipated…even after trying to compress the clay, dry slowly, and be gentle through the process, there are still a few cracks and some warping. But a few made it through!

Another experiment — some darling salt cellars to hold a salt buffet! You know you dreamed of having that flaky salt next to your kosher to fling over your culinary masterpieces.

And lastly, some sweet and obligatory mugs.

It’s been a while — we’ve had some things happen which postponed my ability to focus on pottery, but the dust has settled and i’m back on the wheel.

Nothing is ready yet - but i’ve had fun imagining the next set of inventory!

NEW: Trivets!

I had an idea of a style of ceramic trivet. I made about 8 with some different patterns on them. Crossing my fingers they turn out how i’m imagining.

NEW: Pedestal vases

These are my new darlings. They’re wide and heavy-ish on the bottom to keep them from tipping. And most of them are made with my new “Party” grog, so i’m hoping for sprinkles of color and drippy tops. We’ll see.

I’m doing these two sets as an experiment, but I’m thinking i’ll be making quite a few for my own gift giving. Two little spots to put types of salt (Kosher? Flaky? Pink? French grey for your fancy friend?) and a hand built spoon. Cute enough to keep next to your stove at all times.

Got a couple new glazes to try out! I’ll be doing a run of test tiles to see how they layer first - but spying sites like “glazeshare” has me really hopeful.

Trying to get about 10-15 mugs out in this batch - and have a few tumblers in the party grog as well.
