Lunes: la bendición es un río.

Miércoles: nombramos la fuga — ignorar, disculparse, acaparar.

Hoy: ¿cómo se ve realmente cuando el agua se mueve en la dirección correcta?

El domingo te di tres palabras para cómo Dios da, y cómo nos está pidiendo dar. Las recorrimos rápido en un domingo por la mañana. Hoy no tenemos prisa. Vamos despacio, una por una.

“Recuerden lo siguiente: un agricultor que siembra solo unas cuantas semillas obtendrá una cosecha pequeña. Pero el que siembra abundantemente obtendrá una cosecha abundante. Cada uno debe decidir en su corazón cuánto dar; y no den de mala gana ni bajo presión, porque Dios ama a la persona que da con alegría.” — 2 Corintios 9:6–7 NTV

Dios no solo está mirando lo que cae en la ofrenda o en la aplicación. Está mirando tu cara mientras lo haces. Una generosidad de mala gana y una generosidad gozosa pueden ser exactamente la misma cantidad de dinero y significar dos cosas completamente distintas para Él.

Después está lo abundante. ¿Te acuerdas de la mujer con el frasco de alabastro? Lo rompió. Derramó algo que valía el salario de un año sobre Jesús, y el cuarto se incomodó. Siempre hay alguien que hace la cuenta en voz alta. “¿Para qué desperdiciar eso?”

Algunos regalos nunca estuvieron hechos para tener sentido financiero. Estaban hechos para hacer visible la adoración.

Y luego lo sacrificial. La viuda y sus dos moneditas. Jesús no midió la cantidad. Midió lo que quedó después de que ella dio. Todos los demás dieron de lo que les sobraba. Ella dio de su vida.

Si no te cuesta nada, no es sacrificio. Es propina.

Fíjate en algo de estas tres historias — el agricultor, la mujer del frasco, la viuda. A ninguno le dijeron que esperara hasta que tuviera más sentido. A ninguno le dijeron que esperara hasta tener más. El agricultor sembró antes de conocer la cosecha. La mujer derramó antes de que el cuarto estuviera de acuerdo con ella. La viuda dio antes de tener un plan para mañana.

La fe y la generosidad siempre han sido primas cercanas. Tal vez son lo mismo, vestido diferente.

APLICACIÓN PERSONAL

Fíjate en esto — ninguna de las tres tiene que ver con el número en el cheque. Gozoso tiene que ver con tu cara. Abundante tiene que ver con si tiene sentido en el papel. Sacrificial tiene que ver con lo que queda cuando terminas.

Podrías dar la misma cantidad de tres maneras distintas, y solo una de ellas realmente se ve así.

Así que no solo preguntes “¿di?” esta semana. Pregunta “¿cómo di?” ¿Tu cara estaba gozosa o resentida? ¿Tuvo sentido en una hoja de cálculo, o hizo visible a Jesús para alguien que estaba mirando? ¿Quedó algo de sobra, o realmente te costó?

Hace tres semanas no conocías estas palabras. Esta semana, ya no las puedes desconocer.

REFLEXIÓN

Tómate estas con calma. No te apures a la siguiente solo porque respondiste la anterior.

● De las tres — gozosa, abundante, sacrificial — ¿cuál te sale más natural? ¿Cuál te estira más?

● ¿Hay un regalo que has estado guardando porque “no tiene sentido”?

● ¿Qué te costaría de verdad — de verdad — dar sacrificialmente esta semana? No en teoría. Específicamente.

ORACIÓN

Dios, quiero que mi generosidad se parezca a la tuya. No calculada. No cautelosa. No quiero dar solo lo que sobra — quiero dar como si me costara algo, porque a ti te costó todo primero. Muéstrame un lugar esta semana donde pueda no guardarme nada. Amén.

ESTA SEMANA

Da un paso específico más allá de donde estás ahora — el diezmo por primera vez, o un regalo, o un gesto que realmente te cueste comodidad. No después. Esta semana.

Abre tu mano. Deja que se mueva.

Today: what does it actually look like when the water moves the right direction?

Sunday I gave you three words for how God gives, and how He’s asking us to give. We moved through them fast on a Sunday morning. Today we’re not in a hurry. Let’s slow down and take them one at a time.

“...You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. ‘For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.’” — 2 Corinthians 9:6–7 NLT

God isn’t just watching what lands in the plate or the app. He’s watching your face while you do it. Grudging generosity and joyful generosity can be the exact same dollar amount and mean two completely different things to Him.

Then there’s extravagant. Remember the woman with the alabaster jar? She broke it. Poured out something worth a year’s wages on Jesus, and the room got uncomfortable. Somebody always does the math out loud. “Why waste it?”

Some gifts were never supposed to make financial sense. They were supposed to make worship visible.

And then sacrificial. The widow and her two coins. Jesus didn’t measure the amount. He measured what was left over after she gave. Everybody else gave from their surplus. She gave from her life.

If it doesn’t cost you anything, it isn’t a sacrifice. It’s a tip.

Notice something about all three of these stories — the farmer, the woman with the jar, the widow. None of them were told to wait until it made more sense. None of them were told to wait until they had more. The farmer planted before he knew the harvest. The woman poured before the room agreed with her. The widow gave before she had a plan for tomorrow.

Faith and generosity have always been close cousins. Maybe the same thing, wearing different clothes.

PERSONAL APPLICATION

Here’s what I want you to notice — none of these three are about the number on the check. Joyful is about your face. Extravagant is about whether it makes sense on paper. Sacrificial is about what’s left when you’re done.

You could give the exact same amount three different ways, and only one of them actually looks like this.

So don’t just ask “did I give?” this week. Ask “how did I give?” Was your face joyful or resentful? Did it make sense on a spreadsheet, or did it make Jesus visible to someone watching? Was there something left over, or did it actually cost you?

Three weeks ago you didn’t know these words. This week, you can’t unknow them.

REFLECTION

Take these slow. Don’t rush to the next one just because you answered the last.

● Which of the three — joyful, extravagant, sacrificial — comes most naturally to you? Which one stretches you?

● Is there a gift you’ve been holding back because it “doesn’t make sense”?

● What would it actually cost you — really cost you — to give sacrificially this week? Not hypothetically. Specifically.

PRAYER

God, I want my generosity to look like Yours. Not calculated. Not cautious. I don’t just want to give what’s left over — I want to give like it costs something, because it cost You everything first. Show me one place this week where I can hold nothing back. Amen.

THIS WEEK

Take one specific step past where you currently are — the tithe for the first time, or a gift, or a gesture that actually costs you comfort. Not later. This week.

Open your hand. Let it move.

El lunes hablamos de que la bendición es un río, no un callejón sin salida. Bonito en teoría. Hoy quiero ponerme específico — porque saber eso y vivirlo son dos cosas distintas.

El domingo nombré tres errores que cometemos con lo que Dios nos da. Déjame nombrarlos otra vez, más despacio esta vez.

Algunos la ignoramos. Vivimos como si lo hubiéramos construido todo nosotros mismos. Nadie lo dice en voz alta, pero fíjate cómo la gente habla de su propio éxito alguna vez — incluyéndote a ti.

Algunos la damos con disculpa. Damos — pero por culpa, no por gozo. La generosidad se convierte en un impuesto que pagamos para sentirnos menos mal por tener cosas.

Y algunos la acaparamos. Este es el más astuto, porque nunca parece pecado. Parece sabiduría. “Solo estoy siendo responsable.” “Solo estoy planificando.” Tal vez. O tal vez el puño se apretó y le encontraste una palabra respetable.

¿Cuál de los tres eres tú?

No te lo voy a responder. No puedo. Pero mentiría si dijera que los tres no han sido yo en distintas temporadas.

Ignorar apareció en mi vida en una temporada donde las cosas iban bien — carrera, familia, todo. Dejé de dar las gracias tan seguido. No a propósito. Simplemente se fue apagando.

Disculparme apareció cuando era joven en el ministerio y estaba quebrado, y dar se sentía como una cuenta más que no podía pagar, así que daba con la mandíbula apretada en vez de con la mano abierta.

Acaparar es el que todavía me sorprende. Se viste de traje. Se llama a sí mismo planificación.

“¿Debería el pueblo estafar a Dios? ¡Sin embargo, ustedes me han estafado!... Traigan todos los diezmos al depósito del templo... Si lo hacen —dice el Señor de los Ejércitos Celestiales—, les abriré las ventanas de los cielos. ¡Derramaré una bendición tan grande que no tendrán suficiente espacio para guardarla!” — Malaquías 3:8–10 NTV

Dios no está pidiendo el diez por ciento porque necesite el dinero. Está pidiendo la mano entera. El diezmo siempre fue la línea de salida, no la meta — prueba de que confías en Él con la parte que puedes contar, para que Él pueda hacer crecer tu confianza con las partes que no puedes.

APLICACIÓN PERSONAL

Aquí es donde se pone incómodo. El error que cometes con el dinero suele ser el mismo error que cometes con todo lo demás que Dios te ha dado — tu tiempo, tu atención, tus dones.

Si acaparas el dinero, probablemente acaparas tu calendario también. Si das por culpa con tu billetera, probablemente das por culpa con tu presencia — en la iglesia, en tu casa, donde sea que la gente te necesite.

Nunca es solo del dinero.

Y aquí hay una pregunta más difícil, debajo de la primera. No solo “¿cuál error cometo?” sino “¿qué le cuesta este error a la gente a mi alrededor?” Un regalo acaparado nunca llega a quien lo necesitaba. Un regalo dado con disculpa nunca se siente como amor para quien lo recibe. Una bendición ignorada nunca llega a ser testimonio, porque nunca le contaste a nadie de dónde vino.

Estos no son solo fallos personales. Son conexiones perdidas. Alguien estaba del otro lado de esa bendición, esperando.

● ¿Dónde aprendiste ese patrón? Nadie nace acaparando o disculpándose. Alguien, algo, te lo enseñó.

● ¿Cómo se vería esta semana si te sorprendieras a mitad del patrón y hicieras lo contrario, aunque sea una sola vez?

ORACIÓN

Señor, no me gusta mirar esta lista. Pero prefiero verla ahora que seguir viviendo ciego a ella. Si he estado ignorando lo que me has dado, humíllame. Si me he estado disculpando por eso, libérame. Si lo he estado acaparando, afloja mi puño — aunque sea un poco, aunque sea hoy. Amén.

ESTA SEMANA

Elige el que más te dolió al leerlo. Dile a alguien de confianza cuál es. En voz alta. Hoy, si puedes.

Monday we talked about blessing being a river, not a cul-de-sac. Good in theory. Today I want to get specific — because knowing that and living it are two different things.

Sunday I named three mistakes we make with what God gives us. Let me name them again, slower this time.

Some of us ignore it. We live like we built it ourselves. Nobody says that out loud, but watch how people talk about their own success sometime — including yourself.

Some of us apologize for it. We give — but out of guilt, not joy. Generosity becomes a tax we pay to feel less bad about having things.

And some of us hoard it. This one’s sneaky, because it never looks like sin. It looks like wisdom. “I’m just being responsible.” “I’m just planning ahead.” Maybe. Or maybe the grip’s gotten tight and you found a respectable word for it.

Which one is you?

I’m not going to answer that for you. I can’t. But I’d be lying if I said all three haven’t been me at different seasons.

Ignoring showed up in my life during a season when things were going well — career, family, all of it. I stopped saying thank you as often. Not on purpose. It just got quieter.

Apologizing showed up when I was young in ministry and broke, and giving felt like one more bill I couldn’t afford, so I gave it with a clenched jaw instead of an open hand.

Hoarding is the one that still sneaks up on me. It wears a suit. It calls itself planning.

“Should people cheat God? Yet you have cheated me!... Bring all the tithes into the storehouse... ‘I will open the windows of heaven for you and pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in!’” — Malachi 3:8–10 NLT

God isn’t asking for ten percent because He needs the money. He’s asking for the whole hand. The tithe was always meant to be the starting line, not the finish line — proof that you trust Him with the part you can count, so He can grow your trust with the parts you can’t.

PERSONAL APPLICATION

Here’s where it gets uncomfortable. The mistake you make with money is usually the same mistake you make with everything else God’s given you — your time, your attention, your gifts.

If you hoard money, you probably hoard your calendar too. If you give out of guilt with your wallet, you probably give out of guilt with your presence — at church, at home, wherever people need you to show up.

It’s never just about the dollar.

So here’s a harder question underneath the first one. Not just “which mistake do I make” — but “what does this mistake cost the people around me?” A hoarded gift never reaches the person who needed it. An apologized-for gift never actually feels like love to the person receiving it. An ignored blessing never gets to be a testimony, because you never told anyone where it came from.

These aren’t just personal failures. They’re missed connections. Somebody was on the other end of that blessing, waiting.

REFLECTION

● Of the three — ignoring, apologizing, hoarding — which one do you recognize first in yourself?

● Where did you learn that pattern? Nobody’s born hoarding or apologizing. Somebody, something, taught you.

● What would it look like this week to catch yourself mid-pattern and do the opposite, just once?

PRAYER

Lord, I don’t love looking at this list. But I’d rather see it now than keep living blind to it. If I’ve been ignoring what You’ve given me, humble me. If I’ve been apologizing for it, free me. If I’ve been hoarding it, loosen my grip — even just a little, even just today. Amen.

THIS WEEK

Pick the one that stung the most when you read it. Tell one trusted person which one it is. Out loud. Today, if you can.

“Blessed.”

We say it a lot. It’s on a t-shirt somewhere in your closet. Somebody asks how you’re doing and “I’m good — just blessed” comes out before you even think about it.

But here’s what I want you to sit with today — before we get anywhere near a to-do list. What did you think blessing was actually for?

Sunday we walked through four ways God blesses people. A need met. A burden carried. A story worth telling. And a hand willing to open. And every single one of them had a catch built into it. None of them were built to stop at you.

“...It is more blessed to give than to receive.” — Acts 20:35 NLT

Read that again. Not “it is blessed to receive.” It is MORE blessed to give. Jesus said that. Not a stewardship committee. Not a building campaign. Jesus.

Here’s something I’ve noticed after doing this a long time — people don’t struggle to believe they’re blessed. Most of us actually get there pretty easily. What we struggle with is believing the blessing was ever supposed to keep moving.

We treat it like a savings account. God treats it like a river.

A cul-de-sac dead-ends. A river goes somewhere.

Which one is your life right now?

I think about the early church sometimes — the one Luke describes in Acts, right after Pentecost. They weren’t wealthy. Most of them had less than you do. But nobody in that room stayed needy for long, because the blessing didn’t stop moving. It passed from hand to hand until it found whoever needed it next.

That’s not a program. That’s not a campaign. That’s just what happens when people stop treating what God gives them like it’s theirs to keep.

Here’s the uncomfortable part. Most of us aren’t hoarding out of greed. We’re hoarding out of fear. What if I give it away and there’s nothing left for me? What if the burden I carry costs more than I can afford? What if my story gets rejected?

Fear turns a river into a reservoir real fast.

PERSONAL APPLICATION

Think about the last thing God actually gave you. Time. Money. A skill. A door that opened out of nowhere. A relationship that healed when it had no business healing.

Did it stop with you? Or did it move through you to somebody else?

I’m not asking to make you feel bad. I’m asking because most of us have never actually asked ourselves that question. We just... keep. It’s not usually malicious. It’s just default.

Try this today. Walk back through your last week — Monday to Sunday — and notice where God’s hand touched yours. A conversation that landed right when you needed it. A bill that got covered somehow. Patience you didn’t know you had until you needed it at 5pm on a hard day. Now ask: did any of that stop with me, or did it move?

You don’t have to have a big answer. Just start noticing.

REFLECTION

Sit with these. Don’t rush past the ones that make you squirm a little.

● Where has a blessing in your life quietly turned into a cul-de-sac instead of a river?

● If you’re honest, do you treat blessing more like something to protect or something to release?

● What’s one thing God has given you this year that was never meant to stay with just you?

PRAYER

God, I don’t always think about my blessings this way. Sometimes I just hold on, because holding on is easier and quieter than letting go. Show me where I’ve turned something You gave me to give away into something I’m just keeping. I don’t want a cul-de-sac life. Open my hands — I’m not even fully sure what that means yet this week. Start there. Amen.

THIS WEEK

Name one specific blessing today — out loud, to another person — and ask God who it’s actually for besides you.

“Bendecido.”

Lo decimos todo el tiempo. Hay una camiseta en tu clóset que lo dice en algún lado. Alguien te pregunta cómo estás y “estoy bien, bendecido” te sale antes de pensarlo siquiera.

Pero hoy quiero que te sientes con esto — antes de llegar a cualquier lista de tareas. ¿Para qué pensabas tú que era la bendición?

El domingo caminamos por cuatro maneras en que Dios nos bendice. Una necesidad suplida. Una carga que se lleva. Una historia que vale la pena contar. Y una mano dispuesta a abrirse. Y cada una de esas cuatro tenía una trampa incorporada. Ninguna fue hecha para detenerse en ti.

“Con mi ejemplo les he mostrado que es preciso trabajar duro para ayudar a los necesitados, recordando las palabras del Señor Jesús: ‘Hay más dicha en dar que en recibir’.” — Hechos 20:35 NTV

Léelo otra vez. No dice “bendito es recibir.” Dice que hay MÁS dicha en dar. Eso lo dijo Jesús. No un comité de mayordomía. No una campaña de construcción. Jesús.

Algo que he notado después de tanto tiempo haciendo esto: la gente no tiene problema en creer que está bendecida. La mayoría llega a esa conclusión bastante rápido. Lo que nos cuesta creer es que la bendición estaba hecha para seguir moviéndose.

La tratamos como una cuenta de ahorros. Dios la trata como un río.

Un callejón sin salida termina. Un río llega a algún lado.

¿Cuál de los dos es tu vida ahora mismo?

Pienso a veces en la iglesia primitiva — la que describe Lucas en Hechos, justo después de Pentecostés. No eran ricos. La mayoría tenía menos que tú. Pero nadie en ese cuarto se quedó necesitado por mucho tiempo, porque la bendición no dejó de moverse. Pasaba de mano en mano hasta encontrar a quien la necesitara.

Eso no es un programa. No es una campaña. Es simplemente lo que pasa cuando la gente deja de tratar lo que Dios les da como si fuera solo de ellos.

Aquí está la parte incómoda. La mayoría de nosotros no acaparamos por codicia. Acaparamos por miedo. ¿Qué tal si lo doy y no me queda nada? ¿Qué tal si la carga que cargo cuesta más de lo que puedo pagar? ¿Qué tal si rechazan mi historia?

El miedo convierte un río en represa bien rápido.

APLICACIÓN PERSONAL

Piensa en lo último que Dios realmente te dio. Tiempo. Dinero. Una habilidad. Una puerta que se abrió de la nada. Una relación que sanó cuando no tenía por qué sanar.

¿Se quedó contigo? ¿O se movió a través de ti hacia alguien más?

No te lo pregunto para hacerte sentir mal. Te lo pregunto porque la mayoría nunca nos hemos hecho esa pregunta. Simplemente... guardamos. Casi nunca es maldad. Es solo costumbre.

Prueba esto hoy. Repasa tu última semana — de lunes a domingo — y fíjate dónde la mano de Dios tocó la tuya. Una conversación que llegó justo cuando la necesitabas. Una cuenta que se cubrió de alguna manera. Paciencia que ni sabías que tenías hasta que la necesitaste un día difícil a las cinco de la tarde. Ahora pregúntate: ¿eso se quedó conmigo, o se movió?

No necesitas tener una respuesta grande. Solo empieza a fijarte.

REFLEXIÓN

Siéntate con estas. No te apures con las que te incomoden un poco.

● ¿Dónde una bendición en tu vida se ha convertido en callejón sin salida en vez de río?

● Si eres honesto, ¿tratas la bendición más como algo que proteger o algo que soltar?

● ¿Qué te ha dado Dios este año que nunca fue para quedarse solo contigo?

ORACIÓN

Dios, no siempre pienso en mis bendiciones así. A veces simplemente me aferro, porque aferrarme es más fácil y más callado que soltar. Muéstrame dónde he convertido algo que me diste para regalar en algo que solo estoy guardando. No quiero una vida de callejón sin salida. Abre mis manos — todavía no sé bien qué significa eso esta semana. Empieza por ahí. Amén.

ESTA SEMANA

Nombra una bendición específica hoy — en voz alta, a otra persona — y pregúntale a Dios para quién es en realidad, además de para ti.

John 15:2 (NLT)

“He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.”

This is the verse most people skip over in John 15.

The vine image is beautiful. Being connected to Jesus, bearing fruit, abiding in His love — that’s the part we want to sit in. But right in the middle of it, Jesus says something that most of us instinctively move past because it’s uncomfortable.

The gardener prunes.

Not occasionally. Not only the weak branches. The healthy ones too. The ones that are bearing fruit. The Father …who Jesus describes as the gardener, the one whose hands are on this vine and who is intentional about every part of it…prunes the branches that are already producing because He wants them to produce even more.

Most of us have experienced a season that felt like that. Something was taken. Something changed. Something you loved, or a version of your life that was working, was removed or transformed in a way that felt like damage at the time.

And it’s possible…not certain, but possible…that what you experienced as loss was the Gardener at work.

Pruning is not punishment. That’s the thing most people miss. It’s not the gardener saying: you failed, so I’m cutting you back. It’s the gardener saying: you’re doing well enough that I can see what’s draining you, what’s pulling your energy away from what you were made to produce. And I’m going to remove it. Not to hurt you. To free you.

A pruned branch doesn’t produce less. It produces more. Eventually.

The hard part is that “eventually” is not immediately. Inside a pruning season, it looks like damage. The branch doesn’t know yet that what it just lost was the thing that was limiting what it could become. That only becomes clear from the outside, from the perspective of the gardener, from a vantage point the branch doesn’t have access to yet.

That is perhaps the most honest and difficult part of trusting God: He prunes from a perspective you don’t have. He sees what the loss is making room for before you can. And He asks you to trust that the same hands that are cutting are the hands of the One who planted you in the first place.

The gardener knows what he’s doing.

That’s not easy to hold in the middle of a hard season. But it’s worth holding.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

• Is there a season in your past that felt like loss at the time but you can now see differently? What does that teach you about how to hold current hard seasons?

• Is there something being removed or changed in your life right now that you’ve been resisting? Is it possible the Gardener’s hands are in it?

• What’s the difference between trusting that God is good and trusting that a specific hard thing is part of His plan? Which one is harder for you?

PRAYER

Father, I don’t always understand what You’re doing. There are things I’ve lost that still feel like damage rather than pruning. But I want to trust the Gardener more than I trust my own assessment of the season. You planted me. Your hands are on this. Help me to hold that even when I can’t see where it’s going. Amen.

ACTION STEP

Think of one thing in your life that has been removed, changed, or limited in the last year or two that you haven’t fully made peace with.

Bring it to God today; not to get an explanation, but to release your grip on the verdict you’ve already made about it.

Tell Him: I don’t understand this yet. But I trust the Gardener’s hands.

VERSÍCULO CLAVE (NTV)

Juan 15:2 “Él corta de mí toda rama que no produce fruto y poda las ramas que sí dan fruto, para que den aún más.”

Este es el versículo que la mayoría se salta en Juan 15.

La imagen de la vid es hermosa. Estar conectado a Jesús, dar fruto, permanecer en su amor — esa es la parte en la que queremos quedarnos. Pero justo en el medio de eso, Jesús dice algo que la mayoría de nosotros instintivamente pasa rápido porque es incómodo.

El labrador poda.

No de vez en cuando. No solo las ramas débiles. Las sanas también. Las que están dando fruto. El Padre — a quien Jesús describe como el labrador, aquel cuyas manos están en esta vid y que es intencional con cada parte de ella — poda las ramas que ya están produciendo porque quiere que produzcan aún más.

La mayoría de nosotros ha experimentado una temporada así. Algo fue quitado. Algo cambió. Algo que amabas, o una versión de tu vida que estaba funcionando, fue removida o transformada de una manera que en su momento se sintió como daño.

Y es posible — no certero, pero posible — que lo que experimentaste como pérdida fue el Labrador trabajando.

La poda no es castigo. Eso es lo que la mayoría no capta. No es el labrador diciendo: fallaste, así que te voy a recortar. Es el labrador diciendo: estás haciéndolo suficientemente bien como para que yo pueda ver lo que te está drenando, lo que está jalando tu energía lejos de lo que fuiste diseñado a producir. Y lo voy a quitar. No para hacerte daño. Para liberarte.

Una rama podada no produce menos. Produce más. Eventualmente.

La parte difícil es que “eventualmente” no es de inmediato. Dentro de una temporada de poda, parece daño. La rama todavía no sabe que lo que acaba de perder era lo que estaba limitando lo que podía llegar a ser. Eso solo se aclara desde afuera, desde la perspectiva del labrador, desde un punto de vista al que la rama todavía no tiene acceso.

Esa es quizas la parte más honesta y difícil de confiar en Dios: él poda desde una perspectiva que tú no tienes. Él ve lo que la pérdida está haciendo espacio para antes de que tú puedas verlo. Y te pide que confíes en que las mismas manos que están cortando son las manos de Aquel que te plantó en primer lugar.

El labrador sabe lo que está haciendo.

Eso no es fácil de sostener en medio de una temporada difícil. Pero vale la pena sostenerlo.

PREGUNTAS DE REFLEXIÓN

• ¿Hay alguna temporada en tu pasado que se sintió como pérdida en ese momento pero que ahora puedes ver diferente? ¿Qué te enseña eso sobre cómo sostener las temporadas difíciles actuales?

• ¿Hay algo que esté siendo quitado o cambiado en tu vida ahora mismo que has estado resistiendo? ¿Es posible que las manos del Labrador estén en ello?

ORACIÓN

Padre, no siempre entiendo lo que estás haciendo. Hay cosas que he perdido que todavía se sienten como daño en vez de poda. Pero quiero confiar en el Labrador más de lo que confío en mi propia evaluación de la temporada. Tú me plantaste. Tus manos están en esto. Ayúdame a sostener eso incluso cuando no puedo ver a dónde va. Amén.

PASO DE ACCIÓN

Piensa en una cosa en tu vida que ha sido quitada, cambiada o limitada en el último año o dos con la que no has hecho del todo las paces.

Tráesela a Dios hoy — no para obtener una explicación, sino para soltar tu control sobre el veredicto que ya has emitido al respecto.

John 15:4–5 (NLT). “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me… For apart from me you can do nothing.”

Here is one of the most freeing sentences in the entire Gospel of John, if you let it land correctly:

Apart from me you can do nothing.

Most people hear that as pressure. As a warning. As Jesus raising the bar even higher than it was already set. But read it again. Because what Jesus is actually doing is removing a burden that most of us have been carrying for years without realizing it.

The burden of producing.

We live in a world that is completely oriented around output. What did you accomplish? What did you create? What can you show for the time and effort you put in? And most of us have quietly carried that framework into our spiritual lives too. We measure our faith by what we’re producing. How consistently we’re reading, praying, serving, giving, growing. And when the output isn’t there — when we feel dry, inconsistent, or like we’re falling behind — our instinct is to try harder. Add more. Recommit.

But Jesus doesn’t say: try harder and you’ll produce more fruit.

He says: remain in me.

The Greek word is meno: to stay, to dwell, to make your home in something. It’s not a visit. It’s not a check-in. It’s not the spiritual equivalent of texting someone occasionally so the relationship doesn’t completely die.

Meno means stay. Make your home here. Let this be the place you live, not the place you visit when you need something.

Here’s the distinction that changes everything: a branch doesn’t produce fruit by trying. It produces fruit by staying connected. The fruit is the overflow of the connection, not the result of the branch’s effort. When the connection is alive and maintained, fruit happens. It’s not manufactured. It grows.

Which means the question Jesus is asking you this week is not: are you doing enough?

It’s: are you staying?

Are you actually connected or have you been visiting occasionally and wondering why the fruit isn’t there?

The invitation at the end of this series is the simplest and most radical thing He could say. Not: do more. Not: try harder. Not: add one more thing to your routine.

Stay. Make your home in Me. And watch what grows.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

• Be honest: is your spiritual life more characterized by effort right now, or by genuine connection? What does the difference feel like?

• What would it mean to “make your home” in Jesus rather than visit Him? What would need to change in your daily rhythms?

• Where have you been trying to produce fruit through discipline and willpower that can only grow through connection? What would surrender look like there?

PRAYER

Jesus, I’ve been trying to produce what only grows from staying connected to You. I’ve added more, committed more, disciplined more and I’m tired in a specific way that trying harder won’t fix. Today I want to stop striving and start staying. Teach me what it means to make my home in You, not as a place I visit, but as the place I live. Amen.

ACTION STEP

This week, instead of adding something to your spiritual routine, remove something.

Identify one obligation, one performance, one thing you’ve been doing out of duty rather than connection. And replace it with ten minutes of simply being with Jesus, no agenda, no checklist, no output to show for it.

Just stay. That’s what abiding looks like to start.

STUDY QUESTIONS

• Read John 15:1–11 slowly. Count how many times Jesus uses the word “remain” or “abide.” What does the repetition tell you about what He most wants you to hear?

• Look at Galatians 5:22–23. The list is called “fruit of the Spirit” not “fruit of your discipline.” How does that framing change the way you pursue these qualities?

• Read Psalm 1:1–3. How does the image of the tree planted by streams of water connect to what Jesus is describing in John 15? What is the source of the tree’s fruitfulness?

• John 15:16 says Jesus chose you and appointed you to bear fruit that will last. What does it mean that fruitfulness is something He appointed, not something you have to earn?

Juan 15:4–5 “Permánezcan en mí, y yo permaneceré en ustedes. Pues una rama no puede producir fruto si la cortan de la vid, y ustedes tampoco pueden ser fructíferos a menos que permanezcan en mí… separados de mí, no pueden hacer nada.”

Aquí hay una de las frases más liberadoras de todo el Evangelio de Juan, si la dejas aterrizar correctamente:

Separados de mí, no pueden hacer nada.

La mayoría lo escucha como presión. Como una advertencia. Como Jesús elevando el listón aún más de lo que ya estaba. Pero léelo de nuevo. Porque lo que Jesús en realidad está haciendo es quitarte una carga que la mayoría de nosotros ha estado cargando por años sin darse cuenta.

La carga de producir.

Vivimos en un mundo completamente orientado hacia la producción. ¿Qué lograste? ¿Qué creaste? ¿Qué puedes mostrar del tiempo y esfuerzo que pusiste? Y la mayoría de nosotros ha llevado ese esquema silenciosamente a nuestra vida espiritual también. Medimos nuestra fe por lo que estamos produciendo. Qué tan consistentemente estamos leyendo, orando, sirviendo, dando, creciendo. Y cuando el resultado no está ahí — cuando nos sentimos secos, inconsistentes o como si estuviéramos quedando atrás — nuestro instinto es intentar más fuerte. Añadir más. Volver a comprometernos.

Pero Jesús no dice: inténtalo más fuerte y producirás más fruto.

Dice: permánece en mí.

La palabra griega es meno — quedarse, habitar, hacer tu hogar en algo. No es una visita. No es una revisión. No es el equivalente espiritual de enviarle un mensaje a alguien de vez en cuando para que la relación no muera del todo.

Meno significa quedarse. Hacer tu hogar aquí. Deja que este sea el lugar donde vives, no el lugar que visitas cuando necesitas algo.

Aquí está la distinción que lo cambia todo: una rama no produce fruto intentándolo. Lo produce quedándose conectada. El fruto es el desbordamiento de la conexión, no el resultado del esfuerzo de la rama. Cuando la conexión está viva y se mantiene, el fruto sucede. No se fabrica. Crece.

Lo que significa que la pregunta que Jesús te hace esta semana no es: ¿estás haciendo suficiente?

Es: ¿te estás quedando?

¿Estás realmente conectado — o has estado visitando ocasionalmente y preguntándote por qué el fruto no está ahí?

La invitación al final de esta serie es la cosa más simple y más radical que podría decir. No: haz más. No: inténtalo más fuerte. No: añade una cosa más a tu rutina.

Quédate. Haz tu hogar en mí. Y mira lo que crece.

Esta semana, en vez de añadir algo a tu rutina espiritual, quita algo.

Identifica una obligación, una actuación, algo que has estado haciendo por deber en vez de por conexión. Y reemplazalo con diez minutos de simplemente estar con Jesús — sin agenda, sin lista, sin resultados que mostrar.

Solo quédate. Así es como se ve permanecer al principio.

Juan 11:43–44 (NTV)

“Luego gritó: ‘¡Lázaro, sal fuera!’ Y el muerto salió de la tumba con las manos y los pies envueltos en vendas de entierro y la cabeza envuelta en un lienzo. Jesús les dijo: ‘¡Quítenle las vendas y déjenlo ir!’”

Presta atención a cómo lucía Lázaro cuando salió.

Todavía estaba envuelto en vendas. Las tiras de lino enredadas alrededor de sus manos y pies. El paño todavía cubriendo su cara. No salió limpio y presentable. Salió exactamente como estaba cuando entró — excepto que vivo.

Jesús no esperó a que Lázaro se pusiera en orden antes de llamarlo. No le exigió que llegara a la entrada de la tumba y tocara. Llamó hacia la oscuridad, y Lázaro salió de la oscuridad en la condición en que estaba.

Y luego Jesús dijo a las personas paradas alrededor: quítenle las vendas. Déjenlo ir.

Esa secuencia importa. Jesús te llama a salir antes de que se quiten las vendas. No espera hasta que estés libre antes de hablarte. Te habla en medio de lo que todavía está enredado a tu alrededor, y deja que la comunidad de su pueblo sea parte de quitar las vendas.

Esta semana, el mensaje presionó fuerte sobre la idea de traer tus lugares muertos a Jesús. De nombrar la cosa que has estado evitando. De detener el largo hábito de decidir que algo terminó y luego aprender a arreglártelas con la ausencia.

Y sé que algunos de ustedes lo hicieron. Lo nombraron. Tal vez oraron por ello por primera vez en mucho tiempo. Tal vez le dijeron algo a alguien. Y probablemente no se sintió como un amanecer. Probablemente solo se sintió como decir algo difícil en voz alta.

Así es como se ve salir de la tumba. Todavía envuelto. Todavía parpadeando en la luz. Todavía sin estar del todo seguro de qué pasa después.

Pero afuera.

Jesús no te pide que tengas todo resuelto antes de responderle. Te pide que salgas. Quitar las vendas pasa después. Para eso es la comunidad. Para eso es la rendición continua. Para eso es la próxima semana y la semana después.

No tienes que estar libre antes de que te llame. Te llama, y luego viene la libertad.

Sal. Él se encargará del resto.

1. ¿Hay alguna manera en que has estado esperando hasta estar “listo” o “suficientemente organizado” para responder a Jesús? ¿Cómo se vería salir de la tumba tal como eres?

Antes del domingo, da un paso concreto que has estado postergando.

Tal vez es decirle a una persona lo que has estado cargando. Tal vez es hacer una llamada que has estado evitando. Tal vez es presentarte para ser bautizado. Tal vez es simplemente orar en voz alta — en palabras reales, en voz alta — sobre el lugar muerto sobre el que has estado en silencio.

No esperes hasta que las vendas estén quitadas. Sal primero. Deja que quitar las vendas pase en comunidad.

Llega el domingo listo para seguir moviéndote.

John 11:43–44 (NLT)

“Then Jesus shouted, ‘Lazarus, come out!’ And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in graveclothes, his face wrapped in a headcloth. Jesus told them, ‘Unwrap him and let him go!’”

Pay attention to what Lazarus looked like when he came out.

He was still wrapped in grave clothes. The linen strips wound around his hands and feet. The cloth still covering his face. He didn’t come out cleaned up and presentable. He came out exactly as he was when he went in — except alive.

Jesus didn’t wait for Lazarus to get himself together before He called. He didn’t require him to make his way to the entrance of the tomb and knock. He called into the darkness, and Lazarus came out of the darkness in whatever condition he was in.

And then Jesus said to the people standing around: unwrap him. Let him go.

That sequence matters. Jesus calls you out before the grave clothes come off. He doesn’t wait until you’re free before He speaks to you. He speaks to you in the middle of whatever is still wrapped around you, and He lets the community of His people be part of the unwrapping.

This week, the message pushed hard on the idea of bringing your dead places to Jesus. On naming the thing you’ve been managing around. On stopping the long habit of deciding something is over and then learning to cope with the absence.

And I know some of you did that. You named it. Maybe you prayed about it for the first time in a long time. Maybe you told someone. And it probably didn’t feel like a sunrise moment. It probably just felt like you said a hard thing out loud.

That’s what coming out of the tomb looks like. Still wrapped. Still blinking in the light. Still not entirely sure what happens next.

But out.

Jesus doesn’t ask you to have it all resolved before you respond to Him. He asks you to come out. The unwrapping happens after. That’s what community is for. That’s what ongoing surrender is for. That’s what next week and the week after are for.

You don’t have to be free before He calls you. He calls you, and then freedom follows.

Come out. He’ll take care of the rest.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1. Is there a way you’ve been waiting until you’re “ready” or “together enough” to respond to Jesus? What would it look like to come out of the tomb as you are?

2. Lazarus needed people to unwrap him after Jesus called him out. Who in your life is meant to be part of your unwrapping? Are you letting them?

3. What step did you take this week in response to Sunday’s message? If you haven’t taken one yet — what is the one thing you could do before Sunday?

PRAYER

Jesus, I’ve been waiting until I’m ready. Until I have it more figured out. Until the grave clothes are already off. But Lazarus came out still wrapped, and You called him anyway. I’m coming out as I am — still tangled in some of the old stuff, still blinking in the light, still not sure exactly what’s next. But I’m coming out. Call me. I’ll move toward the voice. Amen.

ACTION STEP

Before Sunday, take one concrete step you’ve been putting off.

Maybe it’s telling one person what you’ve been carrying. Maybe it’s making a phone call you’ve been avoiding. Maybe it’s showing up to be baptized. Maybe it’s simply praying out loud — in actual words, out loud — about the dead place you’ve been silent about.

Don’t wait until the grave clothes are off. Come out first. Let the unwrapping happen in community.

Show up Sunday ready to keep moving.

Juan 11:25–26 “Jesús le dijo: Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en mí vivirá aunque muera; y todo el que vive y cree en mí no morirá jamás. ¿Crees esto?”

Marta creía en la resurrección.

Es importante decirlo claramente, porque no se le da suficiente crédito. Cuando Jesús le dijo que Lázaro resucitaría, ella no rechazó la idea. Dijo: “Sé que resucitará en la resurrección, en el día final.” Algún día. En el futuro. Al final de la historia, cuando Dios lo envuelva todo.

Tenía buena teología. Del tipo que aprobaría una clase bíblica.

Solo que no podía imaginarse la resurrección disponible ahora mismo. Para este momento. Para este hermano muerto. Para hoy.

Y creo que muchos de nosotros vivimos exactamente donde vivió Marta.

Creemos que Jesús puede hacer cosas. Creemos que es real, que resucitó de entre los muertos, que tiene poder. Pero cuando se trata de los lugares muertos específicos en nuestras vidas — la situación específica que ya hemos archivado bajo “demasiado lejos” — tenemos una teología para algún día y no mucho para hoy.

El matrimonio se podría sanar. Solo que no el mío.

Dios puede romper la adicción. Solo que no esta, no en este punto.

La fe puede volver. Solo que he estado frío demasiado tiempo.

Jesús no discute con la teología de Marta. La redirige. No dice: “Tu creencia en algún día está equivocada.” Dice algo que colapsa la distancia entre algún día y hoy.

“Yo soy la resurrección y la vida.”

Tiempo presente. Ahora mismo. Parado frente a ella.

No está describiendo un evento futuro en un calendario. Se está describiendo a sí mismo. La resurrección no es una doctrina — es una persona. Y esa persona está disponible para ti ahora mismo, en medio de lo que ya decidiste que terminó.

La pregunta que le hizo a Marta sigue en pie hoy, en esta semana, para el lugar muerto específico en tu vida que has estado evitando:

“¿Crees esto?”

No: ¿crees en la resurrección en general? No: ¿tienes el marco teológico correcto?

¿Crees esto — para tu matrimonio, tu fe, tus patrones, la cosa que dejaste de orar?

Esa es la pregunta. Y es la más importante que responderás esta semana.

1. ¿Cuál es el lugar muerto específico en tu vida que has archivado bajo “algún día” o “no para mí”? ¿Puedes nombrarlo en voz alta?

Jesús, tengo teología para algún día. Te creo en el sentido general. Pero voy a ser honesto — hay lugares específicos en los que ya decidí que probablemente no vas a hacer nada. John 11:25–26 (NLT)

“I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this?”

Martha believed in resurrection.

That’s important to say clearly, because she doesn’t get enough credit for it. When Jesus told her that Lazarus would rise again, she didn’t reject the idea. She said: “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Someday. In the future. At the end of history, when God wraps everything up.

She had good theology. The kind that would pass a Bible class.

She just couldn’t imagine resurrection being available right now. For this moment. For this dead brother. For today.

And I think a lot of us live exactly where Martha lived.

We believe Jesus can do things. We believe He’s real, that He rose from the dead, that He has power. But when it comes to the specific dead places in our lives — the specific situation we’ve already filed under “too far gone” — we have a theology for someday and not much for today.

The marriage could be healed. Just not mine.

God can break addiction. Just not this one, not at this point.

Faith can come back. I’ve just been cold too long.

Jesus doesn’t argue with Martha’s theology. He redirects it. He doesn’t say: “Your someday belief is wrong.” He says something that collapses the distance between someday and today.

“I am the resurrection and the life.”

Present tense. Right now. Standing in front of her.

He’s not describing a future event on a calendar. He’s describing Himself. Resurrection is not a doctrine — it’s a person. And that person is available to you right now, in the middle of whatever you’ve already decided is over.

The question He asked Martha is still standing today, in this room, for the specific dead place in your life that you’ve been working around:

“Do you believe this?”

Not: do you believe in resurrection in general? Not: do you have the right theological framework?

Do you believe this — for your marriage, your faith, your patterns, the thing you’ve stopped praying about?

That’s the question. And it’s the most important one you’ll answer this week.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1. What is the specific dead place in your life you’ve filed under “someday” or “not for me”? Can you name it out loud?

2. What’s the difference between believing Jesus can do things in general and believing He can do something about this, specifically? What makes the second harder?

3. If Jesus is the resurrection — not just someone who brings it, but the thing itself, present tense — what would it look like to actually live like that this week?

PRAYER

Jesus, I have theology for someday. I believe in You in the general sense. But I’ll be honest — there are specific places I’ve already decided You probably aren’t going to do anything about. I’ve made my peace with them. I’ve stopped praying about them. And I hear You asking: do you believe this? Today, I want to say yes — not for the abstract, but for the specific things I’ve given up on. You are the resurrection. Present tense. Right now. I believe it. Amen.

ACTION STEP

Write down the specific dead place you’ve been managing around. The one you have a “someday” theology for but not a “today” faith for.

Then pray about that specific thing — not in general, not vaguely — and say out loud:

“Jesus, I believe You are the resurrection. I believe that means You are not finished with this.”

Pray it every day this week. Not as a formula. As an act of choosing to believe what you know is true.

Juan 11:33, 35

“Cuando Jesús la vio llorando y vio a los demás lamentarse con ella, se enojó en su interior y quedó profundamente angustiado… Entonces Jesús lloró.”

La mayoría de nosotros asume que Jesús lloró en la tumba de Lázaro porque estaba triste.

Y lo estaba. Pero el texto nos da más que tristeza — y si te saltas el versículo 33, probablemente te lo pierdes por completo.

Dos versículos antes, en el versículo 33, Juan usa una palabra griega para describir la respuesta de Jesús que no significa principalmente duelo. La palabra es embrimaomai. Tiene la fuerza de estar agitado, de gemir, de lo que los eruditos describen como indignación justa — el tipo de reacción que tienes cuando estás mirando algo profundamente incorrecto y estás a punto de hacer algo al respecto.

Antes de llorar, Jesús estaba enojado.

No con María. No con Marta. No con los que lloraban en el patio.

Con la muerte misma.

Esto es lo que significa — y por qué importa más de lo que parece a primera vista.

Dios no diseñó a los seres humanos para la muerte. Fuimos creados para la vida. La muerte entró en la historia a través del pecado — nunca fue parte del plan original. Y eso es por qué el duelo nos golpea de la manera en que lo hace. No es debilidad. Es nuestra alma reconociendo que algo está fundamentalmente mal. Algo en nosotros sabe: así no era como debía ser.

Cuando Jesús estuvo frente a esa tumba, estaba mirando la evidencia de lo que el pecado había costado. Estaba mirando a María y Marta cargando un dolor que nunca deberían haber conocido. Su amigo Lázaro estaba en esa tumba, y no tenía que haber sido así. Y aun teniendo el poder para revertirlo — aun sabiendo exactamente lo que estaba a punto de hacer — sintió lo incorrecto de ello. Entró al duelo antes de superarlo.

Luego lloró.

Y luego llamó a Lázaro a salir.

Lo que esto significa para ti no es poca cosa. Jesús no es un Dios que observa tu dolor desde una distancia segura y luego llega con una solución. Es un Dios que entra primero. Que siente lo que sientes. Que está, si quieres el peso completo del griego, agitado en tu nombre — enojado por lo que la muerte y el pecado y la pérdida te han costado — porque lo que cargas nunca debería haber existido.

El que llora contigo es el mismo que está enojado por lo que te rompió y tiene el poder de anularlo.

Ese es el carácter del Dios al que le llevas tu dolor.

Hoy, nombra una cosa que has estado evitando en vez de traérsela a Jesús. No intentes resolverla — solo nómbrala. Escríbela si eso ayuda.

Luego tráesela en oración con una frase:

“Jesús, esto es lo que he estado cargando. Ya no quiero manejarlo solo.”

Es suficiente. Déjalo entrar antes de que hable.

“When Jesus saw her weeping and saw the other people wailing with her, a deep anger welled up within him, and he was deeply troubled… Then Jesus wept.”

Most of us assume that Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus because He was sad.

And He was. But the text gives us more than sadness — and if you read past verse 35, you almost certainly miss it.

Two verses earlier, in verse 33, John uses a Greek word to describe Jesus’ response that doesn’t primarily mean grief. The word is embrimaomai. It carries the force of being agitated, of groaning, of what scholars describe as righteous indignation — the kind of reaction you have when you are looking at something profoundly wrong and you are about to do something about it.

Before Jesus wept, He was angry.

Not at Mary. Not at Martha. Not at the mourners in the courtyard.

At death itself.

Here’s what that means — and why it matters more than it might seem at first.

God did not design human beings for death. We were created for life. Death entered the story through sin — it was never part of the original plan. And that is why grief hits us the way it does. It is not weakness. It is our souls recognizing that something is fundamentally wrong. Something in us knows: this is not how it was supposed to be.

When Jesus stood at that tomb, He was looking at the evidence of what sin had cost. He was looking at Mary and Martha carrying pain they were never supposed to know. His friend Lazarus was in that tomb, and it didn’t have to be this way. And even with the power to overturn it — even knowing exactly what He was about to do — He felt the wrongness of it. He entered the grief before He overcame it.

Then He wept.

And then He called Lazarus out.

What this means for you is not a small thing. Jesus is not a God who surveys your pain from a safe distance and then swoops in with a solution. He is a God who enters it first. Who feels what you feel. Who is, if you want the full weight of the Greek, agitated on your behalf — angry at what death and sin and loss have cost you — because what you’re carrying was never supposed to exist.

The One who weeps with you is the same One who is angry at what broke you and has the power to overrule it.

That is the character of the God you’re bringing your grief to.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1. Have you ever thought of Jesus as being angry at death on your behalf? How does that image change the way you relate to Him in your pain?

2. Is there grief you’ve been managing privately instead of bringing to Jesus? What makes it hard to bring?

3. What does it mean to you that Jesus entered Mary and Martha’s grief before He spoke into it? What would it look like for Him to do the same in your life?

PRAYER

Jesus, I’ve been carrying things I haven’t brought to You. Some of it feels too heavy to talk about. Some of it I’ve just learned to work around. But You entered the grief at Lazarus’ tomb before You spoke into it — and that tells me You can handle what I’m carrying. I bring it to You today. Not with a demand for what You’ll do with it. Just with open hands. Amen.

ACTION STEP

Today, name one thing you’ve been managing around instead of bringing to Jesus. Don’t try to resolve it — just name it. Write it down if that helps.

Then bring it to Him in prayer with one sentence:

“Jesus, here is what I’ve been carrying. I’m done managing it alone.”

That’s enough. Let Him enter it before He speaks into it.

1. Read John 11:17–37. Look at the progression: how does Jesus move through this scene? What does He do before He does anything about the tomb?

2. Compare John 11:33 (embrimaomai) with John 11:35 (dakruo — to weep). Why do you think John gives us both? What is he trying to show us about Jesus?

3. Read Romans 5:12. How does understanding that death entered through sin — and was never part of God’s original design — change the way you understand grief?

4. John 11:4 says the sickness was not unto death but for the glory of God. How do you hold that alongside the reality of genuine grief and loss? What does it mean that both can be true at the same time?

Vivimos en un mundo que se ha reconciliado con algo peligroso.

La idea de que la verdad es personal. Que lo que es verdad para ti es verdad para ti, y lo que es verdad para mí es verdad para mí. Que la sinceridad es lo que importa — que mientras realmente creas en el camino en el que estás, es válido. Que lo más importante no es si algo es realmente verdad, sino si a ti te funciona.

Y suena generoso. Incluyente. Como lo opuesto a la arrogancia.

Pero aquí está el problema con un mundo que funciona con verdad personal: un médico que solo te dice lo que quieres escuchar no está siendo amable. Un GPS que te redirige a donde ya estás no es navegación. La verdad que se ajusta a ti no puede corregirte. Y la verdad que no puede corregirte no puede salvarte.

Proverbios 14:12 es uno de los versículos más serios de la Escritura. No porque sea dramático, sino porque es callado.

No dice que el camino equivocado se siente obviamente equivocado. Dice que parece recto. Puedes estar completamente comprometido con una dirección — moralmente serio, genuinamente sincero, sin intención de hacerle daño a nadie — y aun así estar en un camino que lleva a alguna parte que nunca pretendiste llegar.

Por eso lo que Jesús dice en Juan 14 no es arrogancia. Es rescate.

No dice que tiene ideas verdaderas. Dice que él es la verdad. No una perspectiva sobre la realidad entre muchas — la realidad misma, tal como Dios la diseñó. Cuando alineas tu vida con Jesús, no solo estás eligiendo un marco moral. Estás alignándote con la realidad misma.

Eso suena como una afirmación estrecha. Y lo es. Pero piensa en lo que es la alternativa. Si la verdad es personal, entonces nadie puede estar nunca equivocado. Y si nadie puede estar nunca equivocado, nadie puede ser ayudado nunca. No puedes ser corregido. No puedes ser rescatado. No puedes ser traído de vuelta, porque no hay un “volver” al que regresar.

La exclusividad de Jesús no es mala noticia. Es la única noticia que en realidad significa algo.

El mensaje lo dijo de manera simple: la verdad no es cruel cuando está cargando una cruz por ti.

Jesús no hizo estas afirmaciones desde una posición de comodidad. Las hizo la noche antes de ir a la cruz por las mismas personas con las que estaba hablando. El que dice “Yo soy la verdad” es el mismo que dio todo para hacer esa verdad accesible para ti. Eso no es estrechez. Es amor.

We live in a world that has made peace with something dangerous.

The idea that truth is personal. That what’s true for you is true for you, and what’s true for me is true for me. That sincerity is what matters — that as long as you really believe in the path you’re on, it’s valid. That the most important thing isn’t whether something is actually true, but whether it works for you.

And it sounds generous. Inclusive. Like the opposite of arrogance.

But here’s the problem with a world that runs on personal truth: a doctor who only tells you what you want to hear isn’t being kind. A GPS that reroutes to wherever you already are isn’t navigation. Truth that adjusts to you can’t correct you. And truth that can’t correct you can’t save you.

Proverbs 14:12 is one of the most sobering verses in Scripture. Not because it’s dramatic, but because it’s quiet.

“There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.”

It doesn’t say the wrong path feels obviously wrong. It says it seems right. You can be fully committed to a direction — morally serious, genuinely sincere, not trying to hurt anyone — and still be on a path that leads somewhere you never intended to go.

Which is why what Jesus says in John 14 is not arrogance. It’s rescue.

He doesn’t say He has true ideas. He says He is truth. Not one perspective on reality among many — reality itself, as God designed it. When you align your life with Jesus, you’re not just choosing a moral framework. You’re aligning with the actual grain of the universe.

That sounds like a narrow claim. And it is. But think about what the alternative actually is. If truth is personal, then nobody can ever be wrong. And if nobody can ever be wrong, nobody can ever be helped. You can’t be corrected. You can’t be rescued. You can’t be brought back, because there’s no “back” to come back to.

The exclusivity of Jesus isn’t bad news. It’s the only news that actually means anything.

The sermon put it simply: truth is not cruel when it’s carrying a cross for you.

Jesus didn’t make these claims from a position of comfort. He made them the night before He went to a cross for the very people He was talking to. The One who says “I am the truth” is the same One who gave everything to make that truth available to you. That’s not narrowness. That’s love.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1. Be honest: are there areas of your life where you’ve been operating on “your truth” rather than submitting to what Jesus actually says? What are they?

2. What’s the difference between truth that adjusts to you and truth that calls you to adjust to it? Which one is actually more loving?

3. Where do you most resist the idea that Jesus is the truth — not just a helpful perspective, but the actual standard? What does that resistance reveal?

PRAYER

Jesus, I’ve been living in a world that tells me truth is mine to define. And if I’m honest, I’ve believed it in some areas more than I’ve believed You. Forgive me for treating Your truth as one option among many. Help me stop trying to negotiate with reality and start aligning with it. You are not just someone with good ideas. You are truth itself. Teach me to live like I actually believe that. Amen.

ACTION STEP

Identify one area of your life where you’ve been operating on what feels right rather than what Jesus actually says. It might be a relationship pattern, a financial habit, a conversation you’ve been avoiding, an attitude you’ve been excusing.

Look up what Scripture actually says about that area. Not to find a loophole — to find the truth. And then ask God for the courage to bring your life into alignment with it, even if it costs you something.

La mayoría de la gente no cree que esté perdida.

Eso es lo que hace que estar perdido sea tan peligroso. Si supieras que vas en la dirección equivocada, darías la vuelta. Proverbios 14:12 es uno de esos versículos que te detiene en seco si realmente lo dejas hablar.

No un camino que parece obviamente equivocado. No un camino que solo los necios elegirían. Un camino que parece correcto. Que se siente correcto. Que podría tener el apoyo de personas razonables e inteligentes. Y sin embargo.

Vivimos en un momento en que la postura espiritual más común es la autodirección. La idea de que tu voz interior es la guía más confiable. Que la sinceridad — creer de verdad en el camino en el que estás — es lo que lo hace válido. Que mientras un camino se sienta significativo, lleva a algún lugar que vale la pena.

Pero la sinceridad nunca ha garantizado la llegada.

Puedes estar completamente comprometido con una dirección y estar completamente equivocado sobre a dónde lleva.

El mensaje de mañana va a entrar en algo que nuestra cultura encuentra profundamente incómodo — y que toda persona honesta, si está prestando atención, encuentra calladamente convincente. Es una afirmación que Jesús hace sobre sí mismo que o es lo más importante que alguien haya dicho jamás, o es lo más presuntuoso.

No dice que conoce el camino correcto. No dice que puede ayudarte a encontrar la salida. Hace una declaración sobre quién es él que no deja lugar para el término medio.

Antes de entrar mañana, vale la pena sentarte con Proverbios 14:12 unos minutos esta noche. No para generar ansiedad — sino para llegar con la pregunta correcta ya en el corazón.

No: ¿soy sincero? Sino: ¿tengo razón?

Porque el Pastor que ya demostró que daría su vida por ti también es Aquel que conoce cada camino — a dónde lleva, lo que cuesta y si realmente lleva a algún lugar que vale la pena.

Llega mañana listo para escuchar algo que podría desafiar la dirección de la que has estado tan seguro.

Deja que esos dos pasajes reposen juntos en tu mente. Tráele a Dios un camino o dirección específica en tu vida y pregúntale honestamente: ¿esto es a dónde Tú me estás guiando, o es a dónde voy yo por mi cuenta?

Most people don’t think they’re lost.

That’s what makes being lost so dangerous. If you knew you were going the wrong direction, you’d turn around. But most of us, most of the time, are fairly confident we’re headed somewhere reasonable. We’ve thought it through. We’ve weighed the options. We’ve listened to people we trust. And the path we’re on feels right — which is the most convincing argument in the world that it is right.

Proverbs 14:12 is one of those verses that stops you cold if you actually let it.

“There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.”

Not a path that seems obviously wrong. Not a path that only fools would choose. A path that seems right. That feels right. That might have the support of reasonable, intelligent people. And yet.

We live in a moment when the most common spiritual posture is self-direction. The idea that your inner voice is the most trustworthy guide. That sincerity — really, truly believing in the path you’re on — is what makes it valid. That as long as a path feels meaningful, it leads somewhere worth going.

But sincerity has never guaranteed arrival.

You can be fully committed to a direction and completely wrong about where it leads.

Tomorrow’s message is going to push into something that our culture finds deeply uncomfortable — and that every honest person, if they’re paying attention, finds quietly compelling. It’s a claim Jesus makes about Himself that is either the most important thing anyone has ever said, or the most presumptuous.

He doesn’t say He knows the right path. He doesn’t say He can help you find your way. He makes a statement about who He is that leaves no middle ground.

Before you walk in tomorrow, it’s worth sitting with Proverbs 14:12 for a few minutes tonight. Not to generate anxiety — but to come with the right question already in your heart.

Not: am I sincere? But: am I right?

Because the Shepherd who already proved He’d lay down His life for you is also the One who knows every path — where it goes, what it costs, and whether it actually leads somewhere worth going.

Come tomorrow ready to hear something that might challenge the direction you’ve been so sure about.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

1. Is there a direction in your life right now — a path you’re on, a decision you’ve made, a belief you hold — that you’ve never seriously questioned because it just feels right?

2. What’s the difference between sincerity and correctness? Can you think of a time you were sincerely wrong?

3. What would it mean to walk into Sunday genuinely open — not defending the path you’re already on, but actually willing to hear whether it leads where you think it does?

PRAYER

God, I’ll be honest — I’m more confident in my own sense of direction than I probably should be. There are paths I’m on that I’ve never really brought to You because they feel right and I don’t want them questioned. Soften that. Give me the humility to walk into tomorrow with an open hand instead of a closed fist. I want to be right more than I want to feel right. Prepare my heart to hear what Jesus says. Amen.

ACTION STEP

Tonight, read Proverbs 14:12 slowly — and then read Psalm 25:4–5 right after it.

“Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me.”

Let those two passages sit together in your mind. Bring one specific path or direction in your life to God and ask Him honestly: is this where You’re leading, or where I’m going on my own?

Then walk into Sunday ready to hear the answer.
